2. What is your gender?
The use of this demographic question majorly
affects the outcome of the survey, the results
from this question clearly indicates that our
target audience for this project will be more
male than female; this allows us to have a
more masculine approach on this project. This
information will also contribute towards
deciding colour schemes for the digipak and
advertisement. We will use unisex colours as
35% of the audience
It also gives us an idea of what imagery to use
of the digipak, what we should include in
within the music videos. It also allows us to
communicate and use methods and concepts
in our project that is more relevant to this
gender and in a way that is more meaningful to
them.
3. How old are you?
This demographic question tells us a larger
proportion of our audience are between
16-18, this allows us to shape and present
the music video, digipak, advertisement
etc. in a way that will engage and interest
them. The results of this question suggest
we should use bright colour scheme and
bold font to catch the audiences attention,
likewise using imagery on the digipak and
advertisement that will relate and interest
this age group.
4. Do you prefer the artist or actors to
feature in the music video?
This suggests that perhaps we should include
both in our music video – maybe include
performance of the artist playing the song
and then cut to a narrative based video
which includes actors. The narrative section
will be to illustrate the lyrics likewise we
could use the artist to perform in the
narrative so that most of the focus is on him
reinforcing star quality.
5. Do you prefer music video’s to be
narrative or performance?
From the results of this question it is clear that we
should base our music video on a narrative - which
was initially one of the first ideas in our pitch. None of
the people who undertook this survey chose
performance, we will not use performance in our
music video. I also think that a narrative based music
video will work well with our chosen song.
Amplification narrative will be ideal for this music
video - a narrative that while still inspired by the song
it adds a narrative element to complement the theme/
subject matter of the song.
Narrative based music videos tend to have inter-
textual references from films or other stories. They
also follow conventions such as music videos rarely tell
the full narrative, music video narratives tend to
‘reflect’ a sense of story and are more thematic in their
approach.
6. What genre of music
do you prefer?
From the results of this question it is clear the our audience are
interested in folk and Indie genre music, this indicates that
perhaps we should combine the two - Father John Misty is a
Indie folk singer therefore is an ideal artist for the production of
our music video.
What do you prefer
music video’s to include?
From the results of this question it is clear that the audience for
our music video prefer realistic videos. Maybe a cameo
approach to a music video will be ideal – this is where the artist
features in the narrative of the music video but doesn’t perform
7. Do you watch music
video’s daily or weekly?
Do you watch video’s
on You Tube or TV?
Presenting our music video on both TV and You tube will be the
most successful way of sharing the video for our target
audience to view.
A large moderate proportion of our audience watch music
videos daily, a larger proportion watch music videos weekly.
Our music video needs to stand out and interest our target
market so that it captivates their attention.
8. Have you ever heard of
and or/ listened to Father
John Misty?
Father John Misty is not a very well known artist, he Is currently up
and rising. Having a good music video is a crucial part to catch his
target audience and persuade more people to listen to his song.
Do you like the
visuals to reflect the
lyrics?
100 % of people who answered our survey answered yes to this
question, this is a clearr indication we should either have a
video were the music video illustrates or amplifies the lyrics in
the song.
