What It Means To Be A Political Savvy Leader
Introduction In today's ever evolving organizational settings organizations have grown in to
multifaceted labyrinth of concerns, hostilities, personal sandboxes, personalities, and sacred cows.
Techniques that were used by old titans of industry are beyond outdated and will fair very poorly in
the organizations of today. While many roads can lead to becoming a successful leader, being
politically savvy can help to smooth the path and even shorten the journey. With this paper I aim to
identify what it means to be a politically savvy leader and go into detail as to what traits one must
develop to be effective as a politically savvy leader.

An honest, trustworthy, and transparent individual who is open and has good intentions will have
more success socializing their ideas and enlisting cooperation from key members within the
organization to achieve their objectives. While it is good to be authentic be aware not everyone will
be, share information as needed and try to understand your audiences position on topics or subject
matter before you share your full point of view. The moments you invest in getting to know who
you're dealing with will yield high returns, doing so will help to minimize conflict or damage
relationships that have been already

Authentic Leadership Paper
Authentic Leadership approach is kind of a leadership approach where the leader is defined as
genuine, moral and character–based leaders. ( (Bill George, 2016). Authentic leaders are always true
to their core values. The leader may or may not demand or request particular behavior or actions, but
she will demonstrate them, and expect or imply that others will follow. According to Bill George of
Huffinpost, "authentic leaders demonstrate five qualities, Understanding their purpose, Practicing
solid values, Leading with heart, Establishing connected relationships, Demonstrating self–
discipline." (Bill George, 2016) Authentic leaders are people who spread positive vibes to the people
whom they interact with and they also promote openness among the group. ... Show more content on

According to Pamela Spahr from St. Thomas University Transformational Leaders "possess a
single–minded need to streamline or change things that no longer work. The transformational leader
motivates workers and understands how to form them into integral units that work well with others."
(Spahr, 2015) Servant leadership is the kind of leadership where the leader himself is willing to
work as a servant. The leader wants to serve first in the group. Servant leader's emphasis on
individual development and the transformational leader's focus on structural growth. According to
Larry Spears, Servant leaders are very good listeners, it's their number one characteristic. (Spears,
n.d.) Servant leaders go extra mile for their commitment to listening to others. All three style of
leaderships are very crucial to change the individuals and the social systems within the organization.
A perfect leader is one who carries all three styles. The style of an organization's leadership is
reflected equally on the nature of that organization and its relations with the

Political Leaders Should Withhold Information
Some believe that political leaders should withhold information from the public. Others believe that
the public should know everything that political leaders know. Some believe in certain
circumstances information should be withheld from the public, and in other cases information
should not be withheld. Some believe that the public should not be informed of the information the
government or political leaders have access to. The ones who believe this also often believe that it is
not the public's business to get involved with it. Some believe that if all information were to not be
restrained, the nation(s) would be more informed. The nation(s) knowing the same as what the
political leaders know would help with equality. The public may also

Consequences Of Plagiarizing Political Leaders
Plagiarizing Politicians Plagiarizing politicians is not new news for vigilant voters. Politicians and
renowned leaders, new and old, like Joe Biden, Sen. John Walsh, Rand Paul, Barack Obama, and
even Vladimir Putin have all been condemned for accused plagiarism – thankfully, not all their
responses were as level–headed as Joe Biden's when he said, "I do not understand what the big deal
is" (Osnos, Evan). But what does that say about the United States' own elected leaders? What does
that say about the people who elected these plagiarizing and shameless leaders? These political
leaders should be held accountable to the consequences of their actions, just like anybody else, as
they should be even less likely to plagiarize than the common college ... Show more content on

If a government leader is caught stealing the intellectual property of another, what does that say
about their integrity? What does that tell voters about their intellect? Any government leader caught
in the act of stealing intellectual property should be a red flag to all voters because, most likely, that
candidate or politician doesn't have much intellectual property of their own to begin with. And if it's
not their own words and their own work, then who is it that's really running the country? Of course,
many politicians will make the excuse that they just don't have the time to come up with original
speeches and believe that other authors' beliefs are parallel to their own, but it doesn't matter.
Without proper credit given to the original author, which only takes a few extra seconds to do,
appear to the public as original, and anyone attempting to be a fraud will be exposed as one. (I just
couldn't think of what type of evidence to use for this paragraph, other than common sense,) Voters
should be shocked that their own country's representative leaders would partake in such an
elementary error like plagiarism. It is well known that plagiarism is not new in the world, and with
the development of new antiplagiarism guidelines and technology for students across the globe,
including: The United States, middle east, parts of Asia, and even South Africa, political leaders
should not be making such a fundamental flaw (Mansoor, Faiqa, and Kanwal Ameen). These
representatives should not be in office nor elected into office, and all voters need to be educated on

Ricardo Semler 's Leadership Style
1. Describe Ricardo Semler's leadership style. What do you think the advantages and drawbacks of
his style might be?
Ricardo Semler's leadership style can be described as radical. This approach encourages followers to
share their ideas and apply their creativity and ingenuity to reach the company's goals. The
employees have the opportunity to offer suggestions to improve the company. Also, every employee
establishes their norms and their way of completing their job. They are free to choose their schedule,
their level of salary, and who will be their boss. This model gives the employee a positive feedback
since they are recognized for their good work and ideas.
Some of the advantages the radical leadership style has are:
The employees feel that they have greater responsibility and trust put on them, this can generate
greater participation, commitment and a better job performance.
Each employee is responsible for their own performance, creating self–commitment.
There are no restrictions on resources or schedules that prevent them to carry out their work
properly.
Subordinates are free to choose their schedule and their level of salary.
The employees have to assume the consequences of their actions.
The type of communication is open, there are no defined controls or pressures.
Each employee has the opportunity to vote in the election of the company's leadership and new
initiatives.
The obstacles that can be found can also be some of the advantages

The Pillars Of School Leadership
Leadership
This paper is a review on the pillars of school leadership as discussed in School Supervision class.
One occurring question is what does it mean to be a leader in one of our urban school system today
is a questions asked repeatedly in our class reading? The qualities of a leader are courage, flexibility
and confidence.
Leadership today is the process by which leaders individually or collectively influence their
colleagues. The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement (2005), A leader is
"being so awesome that everyone want to follow you". (quote from Leadership handout).
Additionally, leaders must motivate people and have other skills such as agreement building,
networking, and exercising no jurisdictional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
School leaders understand that when high performance is expected its likelihood increases and
developing a leader takes time. Some leaders are too often preoccupied (p.15) with the capacity to
bring about intended consequences in the behavior of others.
In addition to maintaining these skills, Siccone (2011), found that people are motivated by one of
three strong drives to do the best work of which they are capable. For leaders to effect change, they
must have a picture of what change will look like. "Total participation techniques" provide teachers
with evidence of active participation and cognitive engagement from all students at the same time.
These techniques function as formative assessments that help teachers accurately monitor progress,
provide (Siccone 2011).
Instructional
Feedback and the need to modify instruction and other characteristics are essential to developing a
rich culture to analyze assessments in our schools. Today's students have more rigorous curriculum
and they are required to reach proficiency on assessments, more and more schools are using a form
of data process to identify what teachers should be able to teach their students, to dispel myths that
some students can not learn and inspire educators to a greater level of commitment and action

Transformational Leadership : The New Leadership Paradigm
"Transformational Leadership: The New Leadership Paradigm"
Boosting morale, increasing motivation, and elevating job performance of followers are all
dynamics of a transformational leader. Transformational leadership can be defined as a leader's
approach to nurture and empower followers. This type of a leader exhibits charismatic and visionary
tendencies. As its name suggests, a transformational leader transforms and changes people. The
emergence of transformational leadership as an approach to leadership in regards to political leaders
was presented by James MacGregor Burns, a political sociologist. One of his primary focuses was to
link the roles of leadership and followers. Later, Bernard M. Bass, another researcher expanded the
work of Bass' original ideas by explaining certain psychological mechanisms regarding transactional
and transformational leadership as well as how transformational leadership can be measured
(Northouse, 2013). He also developed the earlier version of the Multi–factor Leadership
Questionnaire (MLQ) to measure transformational leadership through questions that measured the
followers' perceptions of a leader's behavior for each of the full range of leadership factors. A few
questions that I would like to address in this essay are what type of contributions do the four
transformational leadership factors have on leaders and followers, why have researchers deemed
transformational leadership as the new leadership paradigm,

The Importance Of A Good Political Leader
Activity 1 – Building Background In my opinion I think that a good political leader should be
honest with the people he works with and the people he represents. Another characteristic that a
good political leader should have is empathy, he must understand the problems and feeling of the
people who he is representing. He should have a vision of what he wants to do during his term as a
political leader and have an organized plan of how to accomplish their vision . 2. On the other hand
a poor political leader would show selfishness by thinking of himself and his political career before
the people he is representing. He would show poor judgment skills by the people he trusts and

Leadership defines the capacity of an individual to drive other individuals of an organizations with
the aim of reaching certain goals. We can say then a leader is someone who is capable of guiding,
influencing and inspiring. A leader is charismatic and so succeeds in communicating his confidence
and in obtaining a cohesive group. Without a doubt, the Army needs good leaderships and leaders.
The Army leader is interested in the evolution and transformation of the organization. In the world
of today, where the rhythm of change is often intense, the leader has to be there to show the way,

with others and who knows how to put in contribution his wide network of knowledge. These
qualities are very useful especially when the mission is in an unfamiliar environment. They can help
to know the terrain better, and adapting yourself, and to understand the people. An essential
dimension of leadership in the Army is the capacity to work as a team. A leader likes working with
others. He appreciates that there is around the table people with expertise and different points of

G. T. 9: Effective Communication Among Group Members
G.T : 9(A) It is very imperative that leaders communicate among group members. Communication
is a way of sharing information through expressing ideas and thoughts about a subject. In addition, it
is important for leaders to communicate because it improves their leadership skills, keeps the group
focused at the task at hand, and lets the group stay organized at all times. Moreover, leaders being
able to communicate among group members helps the leader understand everyone opinion, take
their ideas into consideration, and find out whether the group has thoroughly understood their
discussion. In other words, it is important for leaders to communicate their ideas to their group
member in ways the group will understand. For instance, if the group

Persuasion As A Political Leader
In today's society, we are easily influenced to think and act a certain way. For example, we are
influenced by the media to buy things and meet certain standards, however, we often don't protest or
question why. Through persuasion, one alters another's perspective on an event or occurrence and
because of this, people usually tend to accept what is being said or portrayed. According to Petty
and Cacioppo (1986), there are two routes to persuasion. When one tries to persuade another by
being more caring and have a good understanding of the message they are delivering, this is called
the central route to persuasion. The second route to persuasion is better known as the peripheral
route to persuasion. This occurs when the one being addressed simply agrees with what is being said
based on certain superficial cues rather than the actual message. Political persuasion methods are
widely used, especially in campaigns. As a political leader, one detains the ultimate power to
influence the population. Being a political leader, however, is never easy. Sometimes, one must
make tough decisions that many of the population might not agree on. For instance, if a person in
power chose to bomb a foreign country, this would create mayhem and thus his followers or just
people in society would start to doubt his decision and may lead to riots. This specific political
leader must debate his case and persuade the population that his decision was the right thing to do.
In order to do so,

Comparing The Tolkien 's ' The Hobbit '
The contrast between different types of leadership appears in the chapter Flies and Spiders in J.R.R
Tolkien's The Hobbit. The chapter starts off with the group no longer having Gandalf lead them
through the perils that lie in the Mirkwood. Thorin helps lead the group past a deadly river that
cannot be touched and helps them until he is captured by elves. Bilbo battle spiders and saves the
dwarves on multiple occasions in Thorin's absence. In this chapter you see a new contrast in Throrin
and Company. No longer having Gandalf Thorin picked up the mantle of leadership and lead by
command. Bilbo then assumed the role of leadership in Thorins absence and lead by putting others
first, putting himself on the line. As the story progresses you have these two types of leadership
contrasting throughout the story. Ultimately in the end Bilbo's was of leadership proved to be better.
When entering the Mirkwood Gandalf left the group leaving Thorin to lead the group through the
woods. Thorin leads the group by command through Mirkwood usually delegating who should do
what in the group. As the group is trying to find their way across the river on pages 132–133 Thorin
takes command of the situation. Once the group had a solid plan Thorin delegates the order of travel
"Who shall cross First said Bilbo" "I shall" said Thorin, "and you will come with me and Fili and
Balin. That's as many as the boat will hold at a time." (133) Thorin goes on naming the order of who
will go and when. In this

Political Ideologies
What makes a leader? What makes an extraordinary leader? As with everything else in life, the
answers depend upon who you ask and why you ask. Leaders can be classified as either benevolent
or malevolent. The benevolent leader's frame of mind comes for the benevolent dictatorship: "a
theoretical form of government in which an authoritarian leader exercise's absolute political power

Although Cicero's On Duties makes many strong claims for what he stands by, argues, and debates,
they are not necessarily views represented by all, but merely through his ideology. A good leader

Personal Review: Looking At The Dilbert
Thank you, I will have a tall claussan.
Looking at the Dilbert comic, I think most of us can relate to it from some sort of work experience.
For me, it reflects on the various bosses, coaches or instructors that have preached one thing, and not
followed by example. The second half of the cartoon represents to me why a leader or manger might
avoid the conversation of asking subordinates what could be improved on, knowing full well that it
will have a cascade affect that they are not prepared to deal with.
Aristotle's quote on leadership tells me that everyone has to learn how to properly follow, as well as
learn to know who to follow, in order to one day become a great leader. It could be easy to try and

Leadership Style: Keirsey Temperament Sorter II
Leadership is often defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. In reality,
leadership is much more than that. Leadership is being able to inspire others to be great while

Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings
Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence
warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that
create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non–acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to
plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are
significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while
mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more
significant role in a political leader's decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in
psychological terms, define a person's mental "lens" on how they understand their world. These
mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person's belief system and the
simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in. Consequently, these biases also
lead to distortions in an individual's perceptions of reality. The creation of these biases leads to
mindsets that form quickly, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non–acknowledgement occurs when a political leader has clear knowledge of some fact or
intelligence report but does not acknowledge it. It occurs most often when a political leader will
substitute their own knowledge for that of the intelligence community's assessment. This non–
acknowledgement of intelligence warning is considered politicization of intelligence. Politicization
of intelligence occurs when political leaders guide the information being collected, rather than the
information leading the them, to an outcome. Political leaders politicize intelligence by "cherry
picking" information that favors their assessment, while ignoring alternative reports. This allows
warnings to be ignored by political leaders who seek exclusive information that align with their
cognitive biases or preferred

serve for 191 days and gave up no ground to German forces. The 92rd division had much more
stressful experiences than the 93rd. They faced more racial discrimination. The white army officials
in the 92nd division would characterize the black soldiers as rapists, and would spread rumors to
French civilians. African Americans were often viewed as threats to white authority, and many were
forced to be transferred out of the division for racial reasons. Others were also court–martialed on
lies told by white officials. The 92nd division fought well as a whole, despite having inadequate
training and having to deal with racial discrimination. One regiment, the 368th Infantry Regiment
however performed poorly in the Allied Meuse–Argonne offensive in September 1918 and as a
result, racist military members used this case as a way to characterize all black soldiers. They would
classify them as incompetent and failures. Postwar, African American soldiers would protest these
allegations. Even with all of the discrimination and setbacks, the service that the African Americans
completed in France was a very good experience for them, many troops would often

Should Religious Leaders Be Political Leaders
A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal. The types
of leaders vary but in this case, we will be dealing with the religious and political leaders. A
religious leader is one who is recognized by a religious body as having some authority within that
body while a political leader is a person actively engaged in politics especially a full time
professional member of a deliberate assembly. A political leader can also be a person who is
experienced or skilled in the art or science of politics, government or government administration.

Mahatma Gandhi is also remembered as a successful religious and political leader where to end the
devastating famine and poverty in India, Gandhi organized detailed survey and study, based upon
which he began leading the cleaning of the villages, building of schools and hospitals, encouraging

Military Command Philosophy Examples
Command Philosophy
It is my honor to share my Command Philosophy with you. My intent is to ensure we
are trained and ready to accomplish any mission. The priorities essential to our success
are Leadership, Communication, Training, and Commitment.
a. Leadership: I expect all leaders' to lead by example. You will do what's right when
no one is looking. We need to give our Soldier's something to emulate. We need to
show them what attributes a leader must possess. A leader needs to be punctual,
articulate, motivated, and above else all leaders need to inspire. We need to inspire our

With that being said it is our job as leaders to find the most effective way to
communicate with our Soldier's so that they are getting the information which in return
produce a trained and informed Soldier. Communication is not a one shoe fits all

Command Philosophy
c. Training: Attend your NCOES, Warrant Officer, and Officer Schools to develop

and sharpen your leadership skills. We need to encourage and ensure our Soldier's are
attending Primary Military Education courses. Section training is just as important as
mandatory training, it will improve the strength of the Soldier in their MOS and the
strength of your section.
d. Commitment: We will make a commitment to what I call the whole Soldier
concept. As leaders we will commit ourselves to taking care of our Soldier's, their
families and their development. We require a commitment from our Soldier's to show up
motivated, willing to learn, and adaptive on a moment's notice. We need to have that
same commitment to our Soldier's, in regard to us being prepared, willing to teach and
mentor.

Leading Like A Great Conductor Essay
Watching the "Itay Talgam: Lead like the Great Conductors" video orchestra my favorite
"Conductor" style was that of the final conductor because he lead the orchestra with his arms
completely crossed and occasionally instructed with is his face when a section should begin to play
or not.
A great leader is just like a great conductor being in a leadership role one has to find the best way of
seeing things from a different perspective. In viewing the video I saw that there were many parallels
that could be seen between corporations and an orchestra.
"Like an orchestra conductor, being a leader within an organization bears the same challenges trying
to create perfect harmony among the different variables in your business to ensure your organization
creates "beautiful" products and profits," (Leaders, March 2013).
In leading like a great conductor, one will not just lead but must bring out the best in their team
members. Therefore, a good leader may use gestures, facial expression, and eye contact to create a
strong sense of connection and involvement within their team to accomplish their mission.
How would you implement the style of a great conductor style into your leadership methods?

My Leadership And The Army 's Leadership
I spent a number of years at 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based in Stuttgart,
Germany. I grew up in the unit, learning as I went and increasing my responsibilities as I gained
rank. Sometimes I had a Soldier or two for whom I was responsible. I mentored them, guided their
activities, and pushed them to become better leaders. Then there were other periods where I wasn't
necessarily responsible for troops. My leadership development took the form of mission
management and initiative, unit training, or independent project development. I also began to notice
the importance of organizational leadership and perspective. By the time I left the unit as a Staff
Sergeant, having also undergone significant personal growth and maturing, I came to see leadership
not so much as a set of tools to get things done, but an attitude or a mindset that must maintain.
In my current assignment, it is my responsibility to project and promote the Army's leadership
values every day. This role has significantly informed my more polished leadership philosophy in
the last year. What I have found is that when I approach my work with the right mindset and regard
myself as a leader in every moment, the actual tasks of any mission are simply accomplished at, or
usually above, the standard. It is the most important elements of that mindset that I seek to discuss
here: professionalism, trust, and service.
To be a professional is to first recognize your work as a profession. This means

A Leader 's Courage, Knowledge, And Wisdom
Introduction
A Leader's Courage, Knowledge, and Wisdom
The book Resilient Leader discusses many avenues of direction to promptly lead and organize. The
three components learned will be discussed in this paper are courage, knowledge and wisdom, these
three components have a congruent purpose that will be explained in this paper. The next section
includes strategies that organizations can use to improve their processes, to build up their leaders'
leadership skills, and increase their performance. The last sections contain a biblical integration of
courage, knowledge, and wisdom, followed by concluding remarks.
Courage
Hoff, (2015) states that some of the traits of a courageous leader are able to face adversity, holding
everyone to the same standards, encourages feedback, ask peers and employees for their input, and
have the ability to foster change in an organization. John Maxwell stated that "a great leader's
courage to fulfill his vision comes from, passion, not position" (Hoff, 2015, p. 33). According to the
Blackboard video, there are many types of courage found in leaders, such as mental, moral,
emotional, physical, and spiritual (Dees, 2014). When a leader is in the midst of a crisis and acts
boldly, with courage, it can define courage as the ability to take the proper action, to do the right
thing, for the right reasons, in the most efficient and effective way for all concerned.

Efficient teams or groups are only effective in the workplace if several factors are put in place, these
can include:
Clear objectives.
When objectives and aims are put in place they are agreed by the whole group or team and are fully
understood by each member.
Good communication.
Effective communication is present in all the group or teams between themselves and other persons
or groups. And any meetings that are held are productive.
Appropriate Leadership.
A team or group should have a leader whom is trusted and shows they can lead in the correct way.
Support and trust.
Members of the team or group should support each other by listening, offering ideas and
encouragement. By doing these things they will earn the trust of others.

How Does Machiavelli Recommends To Political Leaders
What are some of the qualities and strategies Machiavelli recommends to political leaders in the
excerpts you read? How does this represent a break with the past? Machiavelli brought up many
controversial and untraditional points regarding what a kingdom or prince was allowed to do to
maintain power. The most extreme, being that the prince wasn't held to any moral code in the
practice of maintaining power. A prince must be prepared to ward off any conflicting power even if
it means breaking traditional moral codes. Other powers, Machiavelli believed, wouldn't be so kind
in combat and a prince must fight back with equal or greater force. Another point is that it's better to
be feared than loved. Machiavelli believed that love didn't

Canadian Political Leaders
In "Developing better political leaders: The case for a school government," Paul G. Thomas argues
that Canadian society needs a school of government to improve the quality of its politicians.
Through this educational process political leaders will develop their skills and become more
credible, effective and ethically aware, benefitting Canada on a social and economic level. Thomas
reveals the current degree of mistrust between Canadian citizens and their political representatives.
The political parties ability to "campaign in poetry and govern in prose"(247) further heightens
Canadians dissatisfaction with their leaders. He states politicians manipulate public opinion to gain
voter support and this results in election promises that are not implemented. Also, he suggests a ...

He further suggests customized courses for ministers such as agenda setting, decision–making and

Thomas states the school of government will allow individuals to be successful in elected public
office by developing their intelligence, judgement and leadership skills. He believes today's society
needs to invest in the development of political leaders so not only the disillusionment that exists
today is eliminated, but the integrity and civility of public life remains intact. Thomas suggests to
the readers of the Canadian Parliamentary Review that educational opportunities need to be created
for political leaders in order to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Through the
development of government leaders citizens will feel more confident in their abilities and a

Personal Narrative: The Uk's Worst Political Leaders
I was just thinking of the UK's worst political leaders, not just bad, but so stupid they'd give Obama
and Pelosi a run for their money.
My first prize goes to one, Mr. David Blunkett. Blunket was the Home Secretary, a high position in
government. At the time he was the Minister of Justice, your 'homeland security' and immigration all
rolled into one. America hasn't really got an equivalent and that's because our power is centralized;
the same law applies everywhere, the same tax levels, the same minimum wage . . . . .
Anyway, Blunkett was way to the extreme left, a product of the Labour communist 70's and
registered blind. In the UK our leaders often go on walkabouts; you know, show their faces, walk
through the ghetto's so come election time they can say that they actually know what's going on as
they've seen it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radical feminist Harriet was a product of the 1960's student protests, but unlike the majority never
quite grew out of it. Some of her more outlandish proposals included a curfew for all males to stop
rape and suggesting that women no longer need a father to bring up a child. Ms Harman is Pelosi's
mentor and would wipe her out in any debate on stupidity. The then PM, Gordon Brown wasn't
amused. Strange, that after mentioning Blunkett, PM Gordon Brown only had the sight of one eye as
well.

At number three is our own Prime Minister, The Right Honorable David Cameron. On assuming
power he went for a walkabout around one of the toughest estates in the North as being a multi–
millionaire people said he didn't have a clue. The walkabout became known as the 'Hug a hoodie'
tour. The look on his face when meeting some of the more 'dubious' residents is still as funny today
as it was back then then. He even took his tie off and opened his suit jacket to be more down to earth
with the commoners – it didn't work and he never went again.

Oedipus Leadership Style Of Leadership
Throughout history, there has been numerous accounts of great leadership. Whether its political or
social leadership, each man or woman has his or her own unique set of characteristics that makes
them great. Frequently they leave a legacy which is observed meticulously in order to understand
the traits which corresponded to great leadership and its accomplishments. What is less often
accounted for is the failure a leader experience during their time lifetime. Failed leadership in
history and literature provides examples of how some of the greatest figure to ever exist become
oblivious to the wake of destruction that they leave behind. Odysseus, Oedipus and Hamlet each
have a fatal task to accomplish throughout their individual stories'. While each man shows
characteristics of wisdom, critical thinking and hold some position of royalty, these traits are not
enough to save them from the destructive trail they leave behind.
Odysseus, a King favored by the goddess of war and wisdom faced a twenty year journey of war
and travel. This two decade journey of adventure came at the expense of crew and nearly his family.
His failed leadership stems from his hubris that overcomes him at times, particularly when he leaves
the island of the Cyclopes, Polyphemus. When Odysseus encounters Polyphemus, his crew becomes
trapped in his cave as they waited on their host to welcome them, a common Greek custom. When
they discover the beat didn't plan on showing any hospitality and instead begins

Understanding what it takes to be a great leader Anyone has the potential to be a leader, but it takes
a strong and willing person to be a great leader. First and foremost a leader must be willing to take
responsibility, for he's own action and the action of others, and be willing to step up to the plate at
all times. He must be willing to listen at time, for advice from those who he leads. Great leaders take
a firm stand for their followers, they never gives up on achieving their goals, they are dedicated and
they push for excellent. They stay focus, they embrace the needs and wants of other people, they
commit to people who stand with them, and those who are committed to them. People that are leader

different shade, but our blood was the same. Dr. King visioned a world of love and peace. Dr. King

Leadership As Sprouted By Northouse: The Authentic...
Transformational Leadership Northouse (2012) suggests that authentic leadership's roots originate
with transformational leadership; "It was identified earlier in transformational leadership research
but never fully articulated" (p. 253). With authentic leadership being one of the theories which most
influenced me, I thought it important to talk about this theory and learn how authentic leadership
sprouted from this earlier system. As stated by Northouse (2012), the transformational leadership
theory originated in 1973 by Downton (p. 185). "As its name implies, transformational leadership is
a process that changes and transforms people" (Northouse, 2012, p. 185). This style of leadership is
similar to authentic leadership in that they both relate to creating connection with their followers. In
addition, as remarked by Northouse (2012), "Transformational leadership is concerned with
improving the performance of followers and developing followers to their fullest potential (Avolio,
1999; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Northouse 2012) concluded that transformational leaders empowered and supported followers
during change, while they also "raise the consciousness in individuals and to get them to transcend
their own self–interests for the sake of others" (p. 199). These leaders also have high moral values,
know how to express their vision, and "listen to their followers" (Northouse, 2012, p. 200). These
leaders build trust through their relationships with followers and motivate those under them towards
the mission of the company or organization. These leaders influenced me greatly throughout my
Navy career and have helped transform me into a better leader by empowering, building, and
creating an environment in which I could thrive as a Sailor. "In the end, transformational leadership
results in people feeling better about themselves and their contributions to the greater common
good" (Northouse, 2012, p.

Leaders for social and political change
Over the course of history, there have been many battle stories, both political and social of how
nations have become what we know today. Among these stories are those of social injustices, hatred,
and racism, as well as personal and political struggles. From the many injustices our predecessors
have overcome, leaders have emerged. Individuals who will forever be revered by millions and will
hopefully continue to inspire our youth. Nelson Mandela and Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. are
two leaders that have greatly impacted not only their country, but the world. Both of these ... Show

Like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. also had a vision of racial equality. He was a Baptist
minister that led the non–violent American Civil Rights Movement from December 1955, until April
4, 1968. At the time of the civil rights movement segregation was prevalent in the southern United
States. Blacks and whites were valued differently and considered a different class from one another.
They did not share the same rights, and black Americans were treated unfairly. The most significant
political change that occurred as a result of the actions of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. was the
legislature that passed the American Civil Rights Act in 1965. It was through this act that racial
discrimination was eliminated, and made illegal. Finally black American people were afforded the
same rights as white Americans. The right to education, public transportation and non–
discrimination in the workplace was a reality, all because Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would not give
up, and persevered until the American Civil Rights Act was passed. This legislature allowed for the
most significant social change of all, the end of segregation, which is directly the result of the
actions of Martin Luther King Jr. In Dr. King's own words, "The American racial revolution has
been a revolution to "get in" rather than to overthrow. We want to share in the American economy,
the housing market, the educational system and the social opportunities" (King Jr., 1966, p. 3). His
dream is a reality

  • 1. What It Means To Be A Political Savvy Leader Introduction In today's ever evolving organizational settings organizations have grown in to multifaceted labyrinth of concerns, hostilities, personal sandboxes, personalities, and sacred cows. Techniques that were used by old titans of industry are beyond outdated and will fair very poorly in the organizations of today. While many roads can lead to becoming a successful leader, being politically savvy can help to smooth the path and even shorten the journey. With this paper I aim to identify what it means to be a politically savvy leader and go into detail as to what traits one must develop to be effective as a politically savvy leader. • 3. Authentic Leadership Paper Authentic Leadership approach is kind of a leadership approach where the leader is defined as genuine, moral and character–based leaders. ( (Bill George, 2016). Authentic leaders are always true to their core values. The leader may or may not demand or request particular behavior or actions, but she will demonstrate them, and expect or imply that others will follow. According to Bill George of Huffinpost, "authentic leaders demonstrate five qualities, Understanding their purpose, Practicing solid values, Leading with heart, Establishing connected relationships, Demonstrating self– discipline." (Bill George, 2016) Authentic leaders are people who spread positive vibes to the people whom they interact with and they also promote openness among the group. ... According to Pamela Spahr from St. Thomas University Transformational Leaders "possess a single–minded need to streamline or change things that no longer work. The transformational leader motivates workers and understands how to form them into integral units that work well with others." (Spahr, 2015) Servant leadership is the kind of leadership where the leader himself is willing to work as a servant. The leader wants to serve first in the group. Servant leader's emphasis on individual development and the transformational leader's focus on structural growth. According to Larry Spears, Servant leaders are very good listeners, it's their number one characteristic. (Spears, n.d.) Servant leaders go extra mile for their commitment to listening to others. All three style of leaderships are very crucial to change the individuals and the social systems within the organization. A perfect leader is one who carries all three styles. Others believe that the public should know everything that political leaders know. Some believe in certain circumstances information should be withheld from the public, and in other cases information should not be withheld. Some believe that the public should not be informed of the information the government or political leaders have access to. The ones who believe this also often believe that it is not the public's business to get involved with it. Some believe that if all information were to not be restrained, the nation(s) would be more informed. The nation(s) knowing the same as what the political leaders know would help with equality. • 7. Consequences Of Plagiarizing Political Leaders Plagiarizing Politicians Plagiarizing politicians is not new news for vigilant voters. Politicians and renowned leaders, new and old, like Joe Biden, Sen. John Walsh, Rand Paul, Barack Obama, and even Vladimir Putin have all been condemned for accused plagiarism – thankfully, not all their responses were as level–headed as Joe Biden's when he said, "I do not understand what the big deal is" (Osnos, Evan). But what does that say about the United States' own elected leaders? What does that say about the people who elected these plagiarizing and shameless leaders? These political leaders should be held accountable to the consequences of their actions, just like anybody else, as they should be even less likely to plagiarize than the common college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a government leader is caught stealing the intellectual property of another, what does that say about their integrity? What does that tell voters about their intellect? Any government leader caught in the act of stealing intellectual property should be a red flag to all voters because, most likely, that candidate or politician doesn't have much intellectual property of their own to begin with. And if it's not their own words and their own work, then who is it that's really running the country? Of course, many politicians will make the excuse that they just don't have the time to come up with original speeches and believe that other authors' beliefs are parallel to their own, but it doesn't matter. Without proper credit given to the original author, which only takes a few extra seconds to do, appear to the public as original, and anyone attempting to be a fraud will be exposed as one. (I just couldn't think of what type of evidence to use for this paragraph, other than common sense,) Voters should be shocked that their own country's representative leaders would partake in such an elementary error like plagiarism. It is well known that plagiarism is not new in the world, and with the development of new antiplagiarism guidelines and technology for students across the globe, including: The United States, middle east, parts of Asia, and even South Africa, political leaders should not be making such a fundamental flaw (Mansoor, Faiqa, and Kanwal Ameen). • 9. Ricardo Semler 's Leadership Style 1. Describe Ricardo Semler's leadership style. What do you think the advantages and drawbacks of his style might be? Ricardo Semler's leadership style can be described as radical. This approach encourages followers to share their ideas and apply their creativity and ingenuity to reach the company's goals. The employees have the opportunity to offer suggestions to improve the company. Also, every employee establishes their norms and their way of completing their job. They are free to choose their schedule, their level of salary, and who will be their boss. This model gives the employee a positive feedback since they are recognized for their good work and ideas. Some of the advantages the radical leadership style has are: The employees feel that they have greater responsibility and trust put on them, this can generate greater participation, commitment and a better job performance. Each employee is responsible for their own performance, creating self–commitment. There are no restrictions on resources or schedules that prevent them to carry out their work properly. Subordinates are free to choose their schedule and their level of salary. The employees have to assume the consequences of their actions. The type of communication is open, there are no defined controls or pressures. Each employee has the opportunity to vote in the election of the company's leadership and new initiatives. School leaders understand that when high performance is expected its likelihood increases and developing a leader takes time. Some leaders are too often preoccupied (p.15) with the capacity to bring about intended consequences in the behavior of others. In addition to maintaining these skills, Siccone (2011), found that people are motivated by one of three strong drives to do the best work of which they are capable. For leaders to effect change, they must have a picture of what change will look like. "Total participation techniques" provide teachers with evidence of active participation and cognitive engagement from all students at the same time. These techniques function as formative assessments that help teachers accurately monitor progress, provide (Siccone 2011). Instructional Feedback and the need to modify instruction and other characteristics are essential to developing a rich culture to analyze assessments in our schools. Today's students have more rigorous curriculum and they are required to reach proficiency on assessments, more and more schools are using a form of data process to identify what teachers should be able to teach their students, to dispel myths that some students can not learn and inspire educators to a greater level of commitment and action having data discussions. • 13. Transformational Leadership : The New Leadership Paradigm "Transformational Leadership: The New Leadership Paradigm" Boosting morale, increasing motivation, and elevating job performance of followers are all dynamics of a transformational leader. Transformational leadership can be defined as a leader's approach to nurture and empower followers. This type of a leader exhibits charismatic and visionary tendencies. As its name suggests, a transformational leader transforms and changes people. The emergence of transformational leadership as an approach to leadership in regards to political leaders was presented by James MacGregor Burns, a political sociologist. One of his primary focuses was to link the roles of leadership and followers. Later, Bernard M. Bass, another researcher expanded the work of Bass' original ideas by explaining certain psychological mechanisms regarding transactional and transformational leadership as well as how transformational leadership can be measured (Northouse, 2013). He also developed the earlier version of the Multi–factor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) to measure transformational leadership through questions that measured the followers' perceptions of a leader's behavior for each of the full range of leadership factors. A few questions that I would like to address in this essay are what type of contributions do the four transformational leadership factors have on leaders and followers, why have researchers deemed transformational leadership as the new leadership paradigm, ... He should have a vision of what he wants to do during his term as a political leader and have an organized plan of how to accomplish their vision . 2. • 23. Persuasion As A Political Leader In today's society, we are easily influenced to think and act a certain way. For example, we are influenced by the media to buy things and meet certain standards, however, we often don't protest or question why. Through persuasion, one alters another's perspective on an event or occurrence and because of this, people usually tend to accept what is being said or portrayed. According to Petty and Cacioppo (1986), there are two routes to persuasion. When one tries to persuade another by being more caring and have a good understanding of the message they are delivering, this is called the central route to persuasion. The second route to persuasion is better known as the peripheral route to persuasion. This occurs when the one being addressed simply agrees with what is being said based on certain superficial cues rather than the actual message. Political persuasion methods are widely used, especially in campaigns. As a political leader, one detains the ultimate power to influence the population. Being a political leader, however, is never easy. Sometimes, one must make tough decisions that many of the population might not agree on. For instance, if a person in power chose to bomb a foreign country, this would create mayhem and thus his followers or just people in society would start to doubt his decision and may lead to riots. This specific political leader must debate his case and persuade the population that his decision was the right thing to do. In order to do so, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Comparing The Tolkien 's ' The Hobbit ' The contrast between different types of leadership appears in the chapter Flies and Spiders in J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit. The chapter starts off with the group no longer having Gandalf lead them through the perils that lie in the Mirkwood. Thorin helps lead the group past a deadly river that cannot be touched and helps them until he is captured by elves. Bilbo battle spiders and saves the dwarves on multiple occasions in Thorin's absence. In this chapter you see a new contrast in Throrin and Company. No longer having Gandalf Thorin picked up the mantle of leadership and lead by command. Bilbo then assumed the role of leadership in Thorins absence and lead by putting others first, putting himself on the line. As the story progresses you have these two types of leadership contrasting throughout the story. Ultimately in the end Bilbo's was of leadership proved to be better. When entering the Mirkwood Gandalf left the group leaving Thorin to lead the group through the woods. Thorin leads the group by command through Mirkwood usually delegating who should do what in the group. As the group is trying to find their way across the river on pages 132–133 Thorin takes command of the situation. Once the group had a solid plan Thorin delegates the order of travel "Who shall cross First said Bilbo" "I shall" said Thorin, "and you will come with me and Fili and Balin. • 31. Personal Review: Looking At The Dilbert Thank you, I will have a tall claussan. Looking at the Dilbert comic, I think most of us can relate to it from some sort of work experience. • 41. Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non–acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more significant role in a political leader's decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in psychological terms, define a person's mental "lens" on how they understand their world. These mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person's belief system and the simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in. Consequently, these biases also lead to distortions in an individual's perceptions of reality. The creation of these biases leads to mindsets that form quickly, as ... I grew up in the unit, learning as I went and increasing my responsibilities as I gained rank. Sometimes I had a Soldier or two for whom I was responsible. I mentored them, guided their activities, and pushed them to become better leaders. Then there were other periods where I wasn't necessarily responsible for troops. My leadership development took the form of mission management and initiative, unit training, or independent project development. I also began to notice the importance of organizational leadership and perspective. By the time I left the unit as a Staff Sergeant, having also undergone significant personal growth and maturing, I came to see leadership not so much as a set of tools to get things done, but an attitude or a mindset that must maintain. In my current assignment, it is my responsibility to project and promote the Army's leadership values every day. This role has significantly informed my more polished leadership philosophy in the last year. What I have found is that when I approach my work with the right mindset and regard myself as a leader in every moment, the actual tasks of any mission are simply accomplished at, or usually above, the standard. It is the most important elements of that mindset that I seek to discuss here: professionalism, trust, and service. To be a professional is to first recognize your work as a profession. The three components learned will be discussed in this paper are courage, knowledge and wisdom, these three components have a congruent purpose that will be explained in this paper. The next section includes strategies that organizations can use to improve their processes, to build up their leaders' leadership skills, and increase their performance. The last sections contain a biblical integration of courage, knowledge, and wisdom, followed by concluding remarks. Courage Hoff, (2015) states that some of the traits of a courageous leader are able to face adversity, holding everyone to the same standards, encourages feedback, ask peers and employees for their input, and have the ability to foster change in an organization. John Maxwell stated that "a great leader's courage to fulfill his vision comes from, passion, not position" (Hoff, 2015, p. 33). According to the Blackboard video, there are many types of courage found in leaders, such as mental, moral, emotional, physical, and spiritual (Dees, 2014). When a leader is in the midst of a crisis and acts boldly, with courage, it can define courage as the ability to take the proper action, to do the right thing, for the right reasons, in the most efficient and effective way for all concerned. ... Whether its political or social leadership, each man or woman has his or her own unique set of characteristics that makes them great. Frequently they leave a legacy which is observed meticulously in order to understand the traits which corresponded to great leadership and its accomplishments. What is less often accounted for is the failure a leader experience during their time lifetime. Failed leadership in history and literature provides examples of how some of the greatest figure to ever exist become oblivious to the wake of destruction that they leave behind. Odysseus, Oedipus and Hamlet each have a fatal task to accomplish throughout their individual stories'. While each man shows characteristics of wisdom, critical thinking and hold some position of royalty, these traits are not enough to save them from the destructive trail they leave behind. Odysseus, a King favored by the goddess of war and wisdom faced a twenty year journey of war and travel. This two decade journey of adventure came at the expense of crew and nearly his family. Transformational Leadership Northouse (2012) suggests that authentic leadership's roots originate with transformational leadership; "It was identified earlier in transformational leadership research but never fully articulated" (p. 253). With authentic leadership being one of the theories which most influenced me, I thought it important to talk about this theory and learn how authentic leadership sprouted from this earlier system. As stated by Northouse (2012), the transformational leadership theory originated in 1973 by Downton (p. 185). "As its name implies, transformational leadership is a process that changes and transforms people" (Northouse, 2012, p. 185). This style of leadership is similar to authentic leadership in that they both relate to creating connection with their followers.
