Radio Shows During The Golden Age Of Radio
During the Golden Age of Radio, listeners sat glued to their radios at the same time each week to
catch their favorite shows. Shows like The Shadow, Little Orphan Annie, and The Mercury Theater
captivated parents and children alike with their quality storytelling that always left the listener
hanging, which ensured they'd tune in the following week. Over time, broadcast radio evolved into
mostly music, then mostly talk, and now it's mostly commercials, news, weather, and traffic. This is
hardly compelling radio, and people choose not to tune into it every day. Enter the Podcast. With
today's technology, virtually anyone can produce their own radio show over the internet, or Podcast.
The competition in this market is intense, but advertisers

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe 's Writing
For every piece of literature there are numerous amounts of critics, formally called readers. Like a
critic, the readers pick apart different pieces of a literary work to figure out the deeper meaning the
author is trying to display. One thing that readers can pick up from a story is the amount of influence
an author's life has on their work. A good author develops the story or poem by digging deep in his
or hers emotions. Throughout history, there have been numerous amounts of inspirational authors
that have gone through hardships in their life, whose work has changed the way people view
literature. One of the most notable authors to take his heartbreak and tie it into his writing is Edgar
Allan Poe. Like Poe, some famous authors give the readers a window to view inside their head and
their life. By looking at Poe's gothic and romantic writings, his audience can see characteristics of
himself mingled in parts of different literary elements. Before jumping into assumptions, it is
important to learn a little background information on an author. Taking notes of what a writer went
though in his or her life, may help a reader understand the overall purpose of that work. Looking at
Poe's hardships and what he went though helps justify the morbid mindset of his gothic work. Poe
was born January 19, 1809 to his parents David and Elizabeth Arnold Poe. A little after Edgar was
born, David Poe abandoned Elizabeth and their children, leaving them with no support. Soon after,

Analysis Of The Movie ' Jay Z ' Carter '
"Hip–hop, of course, was hugely influential in finally making our slice of America visible through
our own lens – not through the lens of an outsider" (Jay–Z 155). Shawn 'Jay–Z' Carter is an
American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur. He has received 17 Grammy Awards as well as
having sold more than 75 million records world–wide. These accolades and prolific record sales
have made Carter one of the world's best–selling artists of all time. Carter's love of rap, music and

Although the genre of music is fairly new, the idea of rap is very old. What is classified as rap and
hip–hop music was created thousands of years ago. Ancient African storytellers or "groits" used
handmade instruments while communicating their stories in a fashion similar to what is seen as
modern day rap music. The concept of speaking over music is rap music in its most rudimentary
form. Rap has been created to provide an outlet for individuals to expose injustices, the artist's
thoughts and feelings of oppression, and their reaction to a dominant culture. They present those
ideas in an artistic medium to a wide audience, those within their community and those far from it.
Most commonly, rap aims to expose and comment on socio–political injustices, nationalism, or self–
esteem. The rap genre was originally created by men, however female involvement; Salt–N–Pepa,
Queen Latifah and MC Lyte were some of the first female rappers, emerging on the previously male
dominated scene in the 1980's. Although the genre is typically male dominated, the involvement of
women is bringing a new perspective and vision to the genre, instead of using blatant machismo,
their life experiences as women are tied throughout their lyrics.
Jay–Z has always stood out as an artist that is willing to question the status quo and is constantly
pushing the envelope. In 2013, Jay–Z was the executive

Differences Between North And South And Wuthering Heights
4.1 Introduction This chapter tries to link between the two fields of study sociolinguistics and
literature through the representation of the sociolinguistic and the cultural aspects of literary dialect
in the two novels. This chapter, attempts to highlight and depict the social and cultural aspects
occurring in North and south and Wuthering heights used by the different characters in the novels
North and south and Wuthering heights offer an interesting choice of literary dialect analysis. Each
of the characters represents and reflects social aspects related to his social position with different
cultural interpretations contrasting between characters. 4.2. Sociolinguistic Aspects in North and
South and Wuthering Heights It is evident that there are a set of sociolinguistic factors which control

Emily Brontë also makes the divide between social classes, making her characters' language shift
from dialect to the standard to accommodate with the new social status. 4.2.1. Gender Roles in
North and South The traditional gender roles are manipulated throughout the novel. Margaret tends
to defy women stereotypes through her preference to socialize with the other gender, as well as to
assert dominance in situations while stereotypical women would remain submissive. Wardhaugh
(2006: 316) assumes that: Performing masculinity or femininity 'appropriately' cannot mean giving
exactly the same performance regardless of the circumstances. It may involve different strategies in
mixed and single–sexed company, in private and public settings, in the various social positions

The Central Park Play Analysis
The Central Park Cast recreated their roles very well in Annie Jr. The play Annie Jr. has four main
characters are Annie who is an orphan, Miss Hannigan who is an orphanage matron, Grace Farrell
who is Mr. Warbucks's secretary, Mr. Warbucks who is a billionaire. This play is about an orphan
girl named Annie who was hopeless. Annie lived in horrible orphanage where Miss Hannigan was
the orphanage matron. Miss Hannigan is a has been who hated her job and the kids at the orphanage.
Annie tried to run away but the police officer caught her and brought her back to the horrible
orphanage. Miss Hannigan had everyone fooled because everyone thought she was nice and treated
the girls well but, she actually didn't. Annie's life change completely when she was selected by
Grace Farrell to go stay with Mr. Warbucks for a short period of time. Suddenly, everyone is
charmed by Annie including Mr. Warbucks who can be a little cold hearted. Mr. Warbucks knew that
all wanted was to find her real parents. So, Mr. Warbucks decided to help her find her parents. Mr.
Warbucks offered an award to whoever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the spotlight was too bright when Annie was singing tomorrow. I think the costumes
were good and matched with their roles perfectly. I think the costumes made the actors actually feel
like they were actually the people who they were acting as in the play. The orphan girls actually
looked as if they belonged to a horrible orphanage because their clothes looked as if they were
actually "hand me downs". They were dirty and big. Annie's appearance changed dramatically along
with her life. The music was good and I think that the cast sung well. Although, I could not
understand what they were singing sometimes. These elements helped the cast create a great play.
The music helped to create a mood for every set. The costumes helped improve their characters.
Overall, I think this cast did an awesome job and I think that they should do more

Database Security
Databases introduce a number of unique security requirements for their users and administrators. On
one hand, databases are designed to promote open and flexible access to data. But on the other side,
it's this same open access that makes your database vulnerable to many kinds of wicked activity. As
the use of the Web grows on both Intranets and the public Internet, information security is becoming
crucial to organizations. Now that it is extremely easy to distribute information, it is equally
important to ensure that the information is only accessible to those who have the rights to use it.
With many systems implementing dynamic creation of Web pages from a database, corporate
information security is even more vital. Previously, strict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Table Access Control
Standard table access control, if featured in the user authentication system, it is more important on
Web applications than on traditional client/server systems. DBAs are often slack in restricting access
to particular tables because few users would know how to create a custom SQL query to retrieve
data from the database. Most access to a database on a client/server system occurs through a
specifically built client that limits access from there.
User–Authentication Security
Authentication security governs the barrier that must be passed before the user can access particular
information. The user must have some valid form of id before access is granted. Logins are
accomplished in two standard ways: using an HTML form or using an HTTP security request.
If a pass–through is provided to normal database access, traditional security controls can be brought
into play.
The HTML login is simply an HTML page that contains the username and password form fields.
The actual IDs and passwords are stored in a table on the server. This information is brought to the
server through a CGI script. This method has the advantage of letting the DBA define a particular
user's privilege. By using a table created by the DBA, numerous security privileges specific to a
particular project can be defined.

Depression Writing Project
Great Depression Writing Project
On October 29, 1929 an invention that so many people's lives and saving crashed. The stock market.
William Foshay never expected it to take effect when he created such a reality, but with this crash, it
ruined lives. People were homeless. Foodless. Moneyless. Jobless. With such troubled times, it
certainly did bring out the best and the worst in people. There aren't as many people to tell their
stories anymore. But we can tell them from remembrance of them. Here's a story of people who did
obtain the best and the worst lives, and everyone in betwixt.

programs. Luckily, James and one of his sisters were adopted together, but the rest went to other
places. My dad saw a few of my grandpa's siblings throughout the years, but saw his adopted sister
the most. The only one he never met was his eldest brother, because he moved to California after his
father died, and shortly after the other eldest brother also moved to California. Also, in No Promises

killed, their mother and father, and even each other. Even though they go to see each other again

Annie Play : Character Analysis Of Annie's Play
Annie is a play set in the great depression about a orphan who manages to spend Christmas with a
billionaire while trying to find her biological parents. Many people attempt to fake being Annie's
parents, to get a reward but none of them succeed, and Annie finds her real family in the Warbucks,
the billionaire that cares for her, and gets adopted by him and lives happily ever after.
The play was very well done and was not dull even though it was catered to a large audience. The
musical numbers are very entertaining, and the spectacle, both visual and emotional, is well
accomplished. I would recommend this to most children and adults, due to the Christmas themes
and general lightheartedness of the play.
Two specific characters caught my eye as I watched Annie, one of them being Annie herself. The
way she held herself like a child and radiated optimism assisted me in believing her character. Her
gesticulations were good, but since I was in the back row, some of them were hard to see and
interpret. She held herself like she was Annie very well, but she also spoke like a child, and
intensified her character by sounding how a uneducated child would sound. Her undeniable
optimism let her foil very well with other characters, making the play better. In the scene where she
was talking to the hobos, she revealed the hobos pessimism, while reinforcing her own optimism
without having it shoved down our throats by her simply saying she was optimistic outright. The
way she built her

Madonna Research Paper
For many, Madonna was the icon of a generation, the woman who changed pop music forever and
who demonstrated that women artists do not need to conform to societally determined gender roles.
She showed that women could be anything they want, in the process influencing future musicians
for decades to come. Although Madonna was born into a religious, Catholic family, it would be only
a few years before Madonna would explicitly act against her family's Catholic beliefs, by using the
Church as a centerpiece in her videos as a means to fight sexism and racism and to promote
women's sexual freedom. In fact, Madonna's very name, taken from the Virgin Mary, the mother of
Jesus, signifies chastity, innocence and purity while her behavior, for most of her career, signified

young girl. Later on she wore a bathing suit which gave her the appearance of the girl next door.
Early in Madonna's career she played the cheerleader and the street flirt, the elegant diva and the
teenager in the gingham dress, the gum–chewing homegirl and the untouchable icon. It was this
changing of her identity that kept her at the top of her game. She displayed the whole range of
female emotions from the fear of parental disapproval in songs like Papa Don't Preach to the desire
to take a man for his money and control a sexual relationship in songs like Material Girl. Women

Invisible Man Comparative Essay
Their Eyes Were Watching God and Invisible Man Essay
Life has never been easy for African–Americans. Since this country's formation, the African–
American culture has been scorned, disrespected and degraded. It wasn't until the middle of the 21st
century that African–American culture began to be looked upon in a more tolerant light.
This shift came about because of the many talented
African–American writers, actors, speakers and activists who worked so hard to gain respect for
themselves and their culture. Two writers were on the front lines of this movement, Zora Neale
Hurston and Ralph Ellison. Their novels, Invisible Man and Their Eyes Were Watching God, probed
deeply into the life and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of each novel, neither Janie nor Invisible Man are as happy as they'd like to be. But, both
novels focus not on the bittersweet end, but rather what the characters learned before they reached
the end. Janie realized that her strength was in herself and her pride, with or without Tea Cake. And
Invisible Man realized that "My problem was that I always tried to go in everyone's way but
my own" (pg. 573), and so took to hibernation, to "shake off the old skin" and
start living a life he could be proud of." In the end, despite some dissatisfaction, both
characters knew who they were and how to pursue the happiness they craved. By using these two
themes, both Hurston and Ellison took a dramatic leap of faith. These themes add the uniqueness
and non–conformism of the stories themselves.
Neither Hurston nor Ellison hid any part of their culture to be politically correct; this fact is
especially visible in the authors use of diction in their novels. In Their
Eyes Were Watching God, Hurston employs slang and colloquial language throughout the novel. In
fact, almost half of the novel is in this form. An excellent example of this writing style is found on
pg. 87 when Janie says "Ah'm gone tuh de house. Lemme know when dat ol' pee–de–bed is
gone and Ah'll be right back." Ellison uses some colloquial diction and slang, but not nearly so

Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy's Committee
Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy's committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of
speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch–hunt
to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on
circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War
II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the
many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to
incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a
"card carrying, dues paying" member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before
McCarthy's committee, for she was "alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee
messages." (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence
against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person,
but just knew her name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not
enough to convict someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three
others name Annie Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a
white man by the name of Rob Halls, who was a well–known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss
knew was a colored man. This once again poked another

Movie Vs Play Analysis
I found the play to be far superior in comparison to the original film version as the movie's writing
glorified modern American consumerism. A post war financial boom brought a great amount of
advertising and promotion, and the movie was overflowing with blatant celebration of products. The
presence of sexism as well of the obvious lack of racially diverse main characters, was a big
problem for me in my terms of likability of the movie. The play was able to strip itself of the
gaudiness/lack of diversity and that left room for a brilliantly crafted sub–plot with a well rounded
cast and smartly written script. As A Christmas Story appears to be set in the mid to late 1940's,
during what I must presume is post World War Two due to the lack ... Show more content on

The movie had zero racial diversity as, any character of racial diversity was a non–speaking
background character. That speaks volumes for films made in the 80's though, as the film and
television industry's diversity in characters only really started to pick up in the 90's with films and
shows such as, Clueless and The Fresh Prince of Bel–Air. By having an African Nova Scotian actor
play a large speaking role such as, Ralphie's friend, Flick, the directors took notice to today's queues
of having a diverse and well rounded cast! I think it would have been very awkward not to, as the
need to teach this generation about diversity and equality for all is extremely important. The writers
also added a new strong and intelligent female lead, Esther–Jane! After looking at the IMDB page
for the film, I noticed Esther–Jane was not a character in the film. Even if she was, I didn't notice
her, at all. The women in Neptune production were an important component to the story as they
interacted with other main characters that, just never happened in the movie version. Esther–Jane,
especially was a strong female character as only being in grade 2, she already had a stance on
politics and classic literature. She and her friend, intimidated even the most terrifying school yard
bully, Scott, and was respected by everyone in the community. Ralphie's mother in the production
reminded me of a young Jackie Kennedy–Onassis, not only by the way she was dressed, but by the
way she carried herself. She was kind and caring towards her family, well knowledgable and had a
very low temper. The mother in the movie version was also very kind and understanding but, it
seemed she was not in control of herself or her family. She was annoying and almost held down by
her over–confident husband. She didn't stand up for herself in any

Persuasive Speech For The Early Foster Care Is A Problem...
I remember it like it was yesterday. There i was a eight year old child, standing there in our front
yard when the social worker dropped off our very first foster child. My parents placed the baby in
my arms and as i stared down at it, i remember the very first thoughts running through my head;
what the heck are we supposed to do with this!/ we are supposed to take care of this thing Well six
months later, surprisingly, the baby still lived, but we had all just began a journey that would
continue throughout the rest of my life. The one thing conclusion that i have come throughout these
past 8 years is that foster system is indeed a problem that needs to be recognized and addressed by
EVERYONE. And i hope to persuade you on this by exploring the problem, privileges, and promise
for these kids.
One of my all time favorite musicals as I was growing up was always Annie, about a sweet little
orphan who through determination and a little positivity found a better life. But sadly as hard knock
as Annie's life was, it is nothing compared to the actually reality. The early foster system was
established in the 1500s in order to care for children who were removed from their parents. Foster
care was intended to be a short–term solution until the child is either adopted or reunited with their
family. However, because of how few people there are willing to take in these kids, the average
child will spend over two years waiting to be adopted. But the flaws in this system run much deeper.

But what about media, can it be an influence on an artist consciously or subconsciously? That too is
a main contributor to an artist's work and how the work is presented. We have so many things to pull
from in art and the media that it makes everything we create as a sort of dive into our subconscious.
One music group, Steam Powered Giraffe, is a great example on how the media can influence one's

different way each time.To add to the complexity of the code the electriacal circiut is not sent

it was given after it went though the fist time of rotors and sends it back out as another letter and
then that letter goes through the rotors again. After the electrical current went through the rotors
twice it will go down to the plug board again. So if our initial letter of "T" comes back out of the

Andrew Carnegie: The Father of Middle–Class America
For decades Americans couldn't help but love the red–headed, fun–loving Little Orphan Annie. The
image of the little girl moving so quickly from poverty to wealth provided hope for the poor in the
1930s, and her story continues to be a dream of what the future just might hold. The rags–to–riches
phenomenon is the heart of the American Dream. And few other people have embodied this
phenomenon as much as Andrew Carnegie did in the late 1800s and early 1900s. His example and
industry caused him to become the father of middle–class America. Andrew Carnegie can be looked

Throughout Carnegie's life, he displayed his firm belief in the certainty of competition. In fact, he
feared competition and did all he could to hinder it ("Richest").
Andrew Carnegie's belief in Social Darwinism also affected his treatment of his laborers. Perhaps
the only negative quality that is placed upon him is that of oppressor of the working class. Carnegie
inspired competition among his workers and fired the managers and work crews that fell behind. His
workers believed that upward mobility wasn't possible–they were stuck as laborers and would never

making useful men" (qtd. in McCloskey 233). He firmly believed in the laborers' right to organize
themselves in unions and canonized the commandment "Thou shalt not take thy neighbor's job"
("Richest"). Perhaps Carnegie recognized that unions and other societies of organized laborers
develop a cohesiveness that moves them up in society; the

The Great Depression Film Analysis
Entertainment during the Great Depression appeared to be our cries for help. We needed a beacon of
hope and with entertainment to fulfill our need for escapism during this time; Radio and Cinema

the final puzzle piece to the repeal of the 18th Amendment of Prohibition. It was an economic
dilemma. The government's revenue would increase with the taxes on alcoholic beverages, and the
industry would create jobs during a serious shortage. The AAPA or Association against the
Prohibition Amendment used these arguments to suggest aid in the ratification of the 21st

Broadway Song: Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead
As a young girl, I always loved to sing. I would sing anything from songs in cartoons to "Ding Dong
the Witch is Dead" from the Wizard of Oz. Everywhere I went I could be found singing. One day,
my mom received a package in the mail. Inside the package, there was a CD that would shape my
life. My aunt Kelli sent the music from a brand new musical: Wicked. I immediately fell in love.
Every time I got in the car, I would request the CD, especially my favorite song: Popular. Have you
ever seen a 3 year–old girl belt a Broadway song? It's a sight to behold. At first, listening to these
great pieces was a way to entertain myself. I loved to sing them as my mother played them on the

Character Analysis: Orphan Train Christina Baker Kline
Vivian and Molly, generations apart, but yet their lives so similar. Through the book Orphan Train
Christina Baker Kline foreshadows life events of Vivian Daly and compares them to Molly Ayer's
current situations. Through their similarities we see their relationship blossom into a wonderful
friendship. Comparatively my Grandma Gloria lead a very similar life to Vivian. The journeys they
have taken not exactly the same, but oddly identical. My Grandma was born in 1930 with many
stories to tell. Not all clear to her, but as time passes memories merge together. She was born into a
farming family during the depression. In total there was seven kids, her being one of the middle
children, so there wasn't much money to go around. In order to stay afloat their father raised
livestock and tended to his own crops to feed the family. Their mother on the other hand would sew
all of their clothing, each item being passed down from one child to the next when it didn't fit
anymore. This relates to Vivian while she is living with Mr. and Mrs. Grote. In the book Kline
states, "Mr.Grote leaves at dawn with his rifle and rod and brings ... Show more content on

Ida Scudder 's Childhood Years
During Ida Scudder's childhood years, she experienced a horrible famine in India. Her parents threw
themselves into helping as much as they could. Soon, however, her father, Dr. John Scudder II, grew
ill and the entire family returned to America. At first, this move proved difficult for Ida who only
lived in India so far. Her family history interconnected with India since her grandfather, Dr. John
Scudder I, started his missionary doctor practice overseas, thus beginning a family legacy of
missionary work in India. Many of his children and grandchildren traveled back to India to continue
ministering to India. His son Dr. John Scudder II also began doctoring the people of India. Thus, Ida
was born in Ranipet, India, on December 8, 1870. Despite this legacy, after three years of living in
America, Ida "made herself a promise: no matter what, she would never live in India again."
Nine years later, despite Ida's vow, her father traveled back to India with her mother following two
years later. Ida resented their family missionary past and traveled to Chicago to live with her uncle
and aunt, Dr. Henry and Fanny Scudder. However, soon, Dr. Henry also began his missionary
endeavors in Japan. Therefore, Ida attended Northfield Ladies Seminary with no intentions of
returning to India. Unfortunately, Ida soon received a telegram beckoning her to aid her very ill
mother. The reunion proved difficult for Ida, especially since she blamed her parents for their lack of

Disney's Frozen: Analyzing The Song Let It Go

If we allow others to share their unsolicited advice, and take it to heart then we are allowing them to
decide who we really are and what we are competed of. If you naturally have a passive personality,
then your emotions are being controlled and you cannot be yourself. In verse three it is sung ," don't
let them in, don't let them see be the good girl you always have to be conceal, don't feel don't let
them know well, know they know," (Lopez and Lopez). The song is reinstating you must put
yourself first! Do not adjust who you are, conceal it, embrace it. The good girl that "they" want to
see does not exist, it is a fantasy version of you and what they think you should be. They don't get to
pick, they need to know you are a strong unique individual. They need to fathom that they cannot
determine who you can and cannot be. If you mess something up, learn from your mistakes and take
them with you. In verse five it is explained more clearly, "I don't care what they're going to say let
the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway," (Lopez and Lopez). The song is convincing
you to not care about frequent criticism. Elsa will be herself and embrace who she is and if it makes
"them" mad its ok they will get over it, or they won't. She is not going to change, Elsa is going to let,

The Great Depression Effects On America
The Great Depression had a profound effect on the generation that lived through it, with many
people struggling just to get by, and the crisis lasted for years. An entire decade was shaped by this
event and so were its people. Because of the effects of the Great Depression, essentially everyone
had to change their lifestyle and their daily routines. Because of these tough times, the American
outlook on life was grim, the Great Depression lasted for over a decade and no one knew when it
was going to be over. Entertainment was a way for people to forget about their troubles and
problems they had in their own lives, however due to the financial restraints at the time, most people
had to find extremely inexpensive or free sources of entertainment. Because of the Great
Depression, it would change the scene of entertainment forever, launching the film industry along
with radio shows. While the Great Depression was detrimental to the economy as a whole, many
well–known radio programs, films, and books were created during this time. Even though the
Depression was a horrible time, it produced many good things as well. Families were greatly
affected by the Great Depression, with many people finding themselves without a job and unable to
support their families with basic necessities. Previously well off families found themselves among
the vast population of poor, unemployed people and the middle class essentially vanished. While

As defined by the dictionary, success is known as "Achieving something desired, planned, or
attempted" (Dictionary). By this definition, success could be making it to school on time, or running
a 6:30 mile. The simplicity of the definition makes it seem that success is an easy achievement.
Another definition of success can help us reach the truth: "A challenge in which the response is
equal to the problem is called success" (Covey). This further constricts the parameters for success,
now, instead of just throwing out a solution, you have to think and work for the answer. So, how do
you actually achieve success? There are seven steps to help you to achieve your dreams: dream it,
believe it, see it, tell it, plan it, work it, and enjoy it (Widener). First you have to realize your dream,
and what it stands for, your family, friends, and especially yourself! After that, you need to believe
you can succeed, after all, ¨It has to be something that is seemingly beyond your capabilities¨
(Widener). In the book Kate realizes that "a tiny, tiny part of (Her)... must've been daydreaming of
that possibility. Beating the horses that had killed (Her) parents" (Stiefvater 80). Then you have to
envision your dream, see yourself succeeding and fall into the correct mindset. Next you have to

Case Analysis : ' Little Orphan Annie '
Facts: Joanna Pacitti, who in this case is the main plaintiff represented by her parents because then
she was a minor (aged 11 years), alleged the court while determining her case erred and granted
summary judgment to the defendant (Pacitti v. Macy, 1999). This is without adequately allowing the
appropriate process meant to verify, which contract and tort claims that have been infringed, but
instead court denied her an ample platform meant for discovery. Initially, actions or events that
yielded to the lodging of this case were that the aggrieved by the name Pacitti had already won
Macy's contest (Pacitti v. Macy, 1999). This was after the contracted entity conducting meticulous
auditions with the intention to choose one competent finalist to cast as "Little Orphan Annie" for a
Broadway production. Contrary to the agreement, Pacitti was dismissed after performing at least
100 shows as "Annie" in six cities and instead her position was taken by her understudy (Pacitti v.
Macy, 1999). This incident ensued three weeks before the event that she had long anticipated and
thought would be the climax. During the trial, the aggrieved tried to unearth the evident relationship
that existed between the producer and the store as well as the benefit that the defendant unjustly
received. Since in its arbitration the District Court settled to the notion of intending to ascertain,

She was beautiful, like those girls in the magazines. Everyone said she had magic eyes, the eyes that

rebellious way. Her mother always hated them, so did I. She had a sugary voice that all the girl
wanted to imitate. Whenever she walked by, you would get the sweet smell of Jasmine. I always
liked to think of her as the sister I never had, I trusted her and she betrayed me. It was almost like

College Essay On Major Accomplishments
As a freshman this year I have achieved some accomplishments from just part of the school year.
One of these achievement would be getting cast as one of the main orphan in "Annie," for the
musical production. Prior to that role I was cast as a snow flurry in the "Snow Queen," the fall play.
An academic achievement would have to be getting "distinguish honor roll" the first half of the
semester. Some other accomplishments were making varsity in cheerleading, meeting new people,
and being able to obtain good grades during middle school and the first half of 9th grade.
Areas that I would like to improve on would be to be more sociable, presentations, and being more
proactive. Being more sociable means to me is to try to get to know someone better, like if they're
new, and to not judge, ignore, or not speak to them. I need to be more open to new things and
people. Presentations scare me, ever since 6th grade. I never liked them. I have been trying to work

The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe Essay
Throughout the life of Edgar Allan Poe, he suffered many unfortunate events and endured several
difficult situations. Some speculate that it was these experiences that helped to formulate the famous
writing style of Edgar Allan Poe. His dark tales such as "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The
Tell–Tale Heart" are horrific, and his poems such as "Alone" and "The Raven" show evidence that
his life experiences influenced their dreariness. Poe's story plots and his own life are undeniably
related and this relationship is intricately defined in many of his works. Poe lived in poverty all of
his life, never seeing enough money from his writings to allow him to live comfortably, and never
seeing his writing arrive at the famed status that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though he was not close with his father, he was very attached to his mother who died presumably of
some illness such as pneumonia or tuberculosis. After the loss of both of his parents, Edgar and his
brother and sister were split up into separate foster homes. Edgar's foster father, Johnny Allan gave
Edgar the middle name Allan, and not much more. This is one of many times in Edgar's life when he
felt truly alone. As he grew up his foster parents sent him to private schools, moved him to England
and to Baltimore, and eventually sent him to the University of Virginia. It was around this time that
Edgar finally separated himself from his foster father who meant so little to him. When Edgar was at
school he became actively involved in drinking, drugs and gambling. His foster father refused to
help him pay his debts, so Edgar left his foster parents and went to find his family ( E. A. Poe
Society of Baltimore Inc. "Poe Chronology" 1–4). Edgar's poem, "Alone", expresses his feelings of
complete loneliness at this time in his life. The poem starts off, "From childhood's hour I have not
been as others were– . . .." This illustrates Poe's trouble as a child, and his struggles through a time
that most people are carefree and happy. The poem goes on to say ." . . Then – in my childhood – in

be even worse than his childhood. These two lines express how although Edgar

Persuasive Speech On Human Trafficking
One of my all time favorite musicals as I was growing up was alway Annie, about a sweet little
orphan who through determination and a little positivity found a better life. But has happened to
orphans nowadays, you don't exactly drive by your neighborhood orphanage on your way to work. It
seems that these children have disappeared, virtually falling off the face of the earth. Today they are
called foster kids with families like my own housing them. The early foster system was established
in the 1500s in order to care for children who were removed from their parents. Foster care was
intended to be a short–term solution until the child is either adopted or reunited with their family.
However, the average child will spend over two years waiting to be adopted. But the flaws in this
system run much deeper, from mental disorders all the way to human trafficking. Human trafficking
through the foster system is a dire problem that can not be neglected. We will examine this today by
looking at three points; recognizing what the problem, understanding the pressure that they are
under, and finally how you and i can help provide the promise of a new life
So what exactly is the problem? Well according to the US department of health and human services,
human trafficking is second largest criminal industry making $12 billion per year off of a staggering
1.2 million child victims, all from the ages 5 to 17. Unlike other criminal industries children can be
sold over and over again. The

Signs of physical aggression are shown and they have difficulty making friends during their

empathy or concern toward others, no feelings of guilt, and low tolerance (Mauro, 2010). The
problems can begin in either the homes or at the schools of those children. Possible etiology of
conduct disorder can include problems within the child's parents' marriage or family problems such
as the child being in isolation from all family members (Mash & Wolfe, 2010). Another possible
cause is violence in the home that occurs in front of the child. A child that has very little or no

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
Entertainment of the Great Depression
Entertainment became very popular during The Great Depression. People could take their friends
and family to see movies. They even influenced how people thought, dressed, and what music they
listened to. Musicals were also popular, along with radio shows. There were even laws to regulate
what media could, and could not show to the audience. Radio shows and musicals were even made
to be relatable to viewers and listeners. In fact, some of the most influential movies, musicals, and
radio shows that society knows and loves today were produced in the Great Depression.
First, most people know about movies. Some famous movies like the Wizard of Oz, Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs, and Gone with the Wind. In fact Gone with the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz
were some of the first movies to be "expensively produced with Technicolor" (Tim Dirks "Film
History of the 1930s"). In 1937, the well–known Walt Disney film Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs was released and "was the first feature–length animated film" (Tim Dirks "Film History of

The Pros And Cons Of Modern Day Slavery
Introduction
When a person hears the term slavery they are most likely going to think of the trans–Atlantic slave
trade. What many people don't realise is that even in modern times and even today there is still
slavery although it occurs in many different forms still very prevalent today.
Practices Regarded as Modern Day Slavery
The general consensus of a definition of modern day slavery is taken from the 1956 UN
supplementary convention. This states "Debt bondage, serfdom, forced marriage and the deliveries
of a child for the exploitation of that child are slavery–like practices and require criminalisation and
abolishment". (Annie Kelly, 2013) There are various different forms of modern day slavery as
defined by the United Nations. These forms as defined by the UN:

Is defined as, "the illegal transport of individuals by force or deception for the purpose of labour,

A large contributing factor is thought to be the large increase in the world population especially after
the Second World War (the baby boom). This population increase especially in developing countries

It's very amusing that you would be able to track my emotional journey in cycles of confidence and

timidness, sensitiveness, and fragileness overshadowed those qualities. I was a diffident child. One

Why Did Jack The Ripper Happen
Jack the Ripper is a famous serial killer during the early 19th century of London. Jack the Ripper is
an interesting topic for me because of it's mystery and that most people thought it was a myth. I also
believed that Jack the Ripper truly exists which brings me to have the interest to write this essay.
Therefore, what led Jack the Ripper to kill the various victims he did in early 19th century London?
I believed that Jack the ripper killed his victim due to the corruptness of early 19th century London.
19th century London is a time era where people are starting to rise up on economy. England during
that time had a very important change to it which is the Industrial revolution. London as the main
capital of England had a big profit made from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He got his name Jack the Ripper because of a letter called "Dear Boss". Therefore, according to
Rubinstein, "Many believe that this postcard was actually written by a journalist, though there is no
clear evidence for this." (Rubinstein). Which means the name Jack the Ripper could be a news
speculation. He became famous because there was no murder happened in London at all in 1887.
Even his He committed these crimes in 1888 which made people shocked. He picked female
prostitutes as his victims and killed them at night when no one was around. He was also famous
because there were not many clues to lead the police to find the killer. This made suspects ranged
from woman to doctor. The police did a lot of attempts and changes in order to catch Jack the
Ripper. There were multiple letters written between polices to request for operation or changes. Jack
the Ripper was so skilled at creating a crime that James Munro, one of the officer, requested a
hundred more uniformed officers and disguised officers to Whitechapel. The officers also tried using
a blood hound to sniff out Jack the Ripper. Therefore, Jack the Ripper made blood all over the place,
this made using smell to find the murderer very hard because the dog may identify the incorrect
smell. Another police officer Thomas Gribton requested for an operation to catch Jack the Ripper.
He requested for twelve police officer with

Radio Shows During The Golden Age Of Radio

  • 1. Radio Shows During The Golden Age Of Radio During the Golden Age of Radio, listeners sat glued to their radios at the same time each week to catch their favorite shows. Shows like The Shadow, Little Orphan Annie, and The Mercury Theater captivated parents and children alike with their quality storytelling that always left the listener hanging, which ensured they'd tune in the following week. Over time, broadcast radio evolved into mostly music, then mostly talk, and now it's mostly commercials, news, weather, and traffic. This is hardly compelling radio, and people choose not to tune into it every day. Enter the Podcast. • 2. Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe 's Writing For every piece of literature there are numerous amounts of critics, formally called readers. Like a critic, the readers pick apart different pieces of a literary work to figure out the deeper meaning the author is trying to display. One thing that readers can pick up from a story is the amount of influence an author's life has on their work. A good author develops the story or poem by digging deep in his or hers emotions. Throughout history, there have been numerous amounts of inspirational authors that have gone through hardships in their life, whose work has changed the way people view literature. One of the most notable authors to take his heartbreak and tie it into his writing is Edgar Allan Poe. Like Poe, some famous authors give the readers a window to view inside their head and their life. By looking at Poe's gothic and romantic writings, his audience can see characteristics of himself mingled in parts of different literary elements. Before jumping into assumptions, it is important to learn a little background information on an author. Taking notes of what a writer went though in his or her life, may help a reader understand the overall purpose of that work. Looking at Poe's hardships and what he went though helps justify the morbid mindset of his gothic work. Poe was born January 19, 1809 to his parents David and Elizabeth Arnold Poe. Although the genre of music is fairly new, the idea of rap is very old. What is classified as rap and hip–hop music was created thousands of years ago. Ancient African storytellers or "groits" used handmade instruments while communicating their stories in a fashion similar to what is seen as modern day rap music. The concept of speaking over music is rap music in its most rudimentary form. Rap has been created to provide an outlet for individuals to expose injustices, the artist's thoughts and feelings of oppression, and their reaction to a dominant culture. They present those ideas in an artistic medium to a wide audience, those within their community and those far from it. Most commonly, rap aims to expose and comment on socio–political injustices, nationalism, or self– esteem. The rap genre was originally created by men, however female involvement; Salt–N–Pepa, Queen Latifah and MC Lyte were some of the first female rappers, emerging on the previously male dominated scene in the 1980's. Although the genre is typically male dominated, the involvement of women is bringing a new perspective and vision to the genre, instead of using blatant machismo, their life experiences as women are tied throughout their lyrics. On one hand, databases are designed to promote open and flexible access to data. But on the other side, it's this same open access that makes your database vulnerable to many kinds of wicked activity. As the use of the Web grows on both Intranets and the public Internet, information security is becoming crucial to organizations. Table Access Control Standard table access control, if featured in the user authentication system, it is more important on Web applications than on traditional client/server systems. DBAs are often slack in restricting access to particular tables because few users would know how to create a custom SQL query to retrieve data from the database. Most access to a database on a client/server system occurs through a specifically built client that limits access from there. User–Authentication Security Authentication security governs the barrier that must be passed before the user can access particular information. The user must have some valid form of id before access is granted. Logins are accomplished in two standard ways: using an HTML form or using an HTTP security request. If a pass–through is provided to normal database access, traditional security controls can be brought into play. The HTML login is simply an HTML page that contains the username and password form fields. The actual IDs and passwords are stored in a table on the server. This information is brought to the server through a CGI script. This method has the advantage of letting the DBA define a particular user's privilege. By using a table created by the DBA, numerous security privileges specific to a particular project can be defined. Once a login ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Annie Play : Character Analysis Of Annie's Play Annie is a play set in the great depression about a orphan who manages to spend Christmas with a billionaire while trying to find her biological parents. Many people attempt to fake being Annie's parents, to get a reward but none of them succeed, and Annie finds her real family in the Warbucks, the billionaire that cares for her, and gets adopted by him and lives happily ever after. The play was very well done and was not dull even though it was catered to a large audience. The musical numbers are very entertaining, and the spectacle, both visual and emotional, is well accomplished. I would recommend this to most children and adults, due to the Christmas themes and general lightheartedness of the play. Two specific characters caught my eye as I watched Annie, one of them being Annie herself. The way she held herself like a child and radiated optimism assisted me in believing her character. Her gesticulations were good, but since I was in the back row, some of them were hard to see and interpret. She held herself like she was Annie very well, but she also spoke like a child, and intensified her character by sounding how a uneducated child would sound. Her undeniable optimism let her foil very well with other characters, making the play better. Although Madonna was born into a religious, Catholic family, it would be only a few years before Madonna would explicitly act against her family's Catholic beliefs, by using the Church as a centerpiece in her videos as a means to fight sexism and racism and to promote women's sexual freedom. She displayed the whole range of female emotions from the fear of parental disapproval in songs like Papa Don't Preach to the desire to take a man for his money and control a sexual relationship in songs like Material Girl. • 11. Invisible Man Comparative Essay Their Eyes Were Watching God and Invisible Man Essay Life has never been easy for African–Americans. Since this country's formation, the African– American culture has been scorned, disrespected and degraded. It wasn't until the middle of the 21st century that African–American culture began to be looked upon in a more tolerant light. This shift came about because of the many talented African–American writers, actors, speakers and activists who worked so hard to gain respect for themselves and their culture. Two writers were on the front lines of this movement, Zora Neale Hurston and Ralph Ellison. Their novels, Invisible Man and Their Eyes Were Watching God, probed deeply into the life and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of each novel, neither Janie nor Invisible Man are as happy as they'd like to be. But, both novels focus not on the bittersweet end, but rather what the characters learned before they reached the end. Janie realized that her strength was in herself and her pride, with or without Tea Cake. And Invisible Man realized that "My problem was that I always tried to go in everyone's way but my own" (pg. 573), and so took to hibernation, to "shake off the old skin" and start living a life he could be proud of." In the end, despite some dissatisfaction, both characters knew who they were and how to pursue the happiness they craved. By using these two themes, both Hurston and Ellison took a dramatic leap of faith. These themes add the uniqueness and non–conformism of the stories themselves. Neither Hurston nor Ellison hid any part of their culture to be politically correct; this fact is especially visible in the authors use of diction in their novels. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Hurston employs slang and colloquial language throughout the novel. In fact, almost half of the novel is in this form. An excellent example of this writing style is found on pg. 87 when Janie says "Ah'm gone tuh de house. Lemme know when dat ol' pee–de–bed is gone and Ah'll be right back." Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy's Committee Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy's committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch–hunt to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a "card carrying, dues paying" member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy's committee, for she was "alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages." (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name of Rob Halls, who was a well–known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man. • 15. Movie Vs Play Analysis I found the play to be far superior in comparison to the original film version as the movie's writing glorified modern American consumerism. A post war financial boom brought a great amount of advertising and promotion, and the movie was overflowing with blatant celebration of products. The presence of sexism as well of the obvious lack of racially diverse main characters, was a big problem for me in my terms of likability of the movie. The play was able to strip itself of the gaudiness/lack of diversity and that left room for a brilliantly crafted sub–plot with a well rounded cast and smartly written script. That speaks volumes for films made in the 80's though, as the film and television industry's diversity in characters only really started to pick up in the 90's with films and shows such as, Clueless and The Fresh Prince of Bel–Air. By having an African Nova Scotian actor play a large speaking role such as, Ralphie's friend, Flick, the directors took notice to today's queues of having a diverse and well rounded cast! I think it would have been very awkward not to, as the need to teach this generation about diversity and equality for all is extremely important. The writers also added a new strong and intelligent female lead, Esther–Jane! After looking at the IMDB page for the film, I noticed Esther–Jane was not a character in the film. Even if she was, I didn't notice her, at all. The women in Neptune production were an important component to the story as they interacted with other main characters that, just never happened in the movie version. Esther–Jane, especially was a strong female character as only being in grade 2, she already had a stance on politics and classic literature. She and her friend, intimidated even the most terrifying school yard bully, Scott, and was respected by everyone in the community. Ralphie's mother in the production reminded me of a young Jackie Kennedy–Onassis, not only by the way she was dressed, but by the way she carried herself. There i was a eight year old child, standing there in our front yard when the social worker dropped off our very first foster child. My parents placed the baby in my arms and as i stared down at it, i remember the very first thoughts running through my head; what the heck are we supposed to do with this!/ we are supposed to take care of this thing Well six months later, surprisingly, the baby still lived, but we had all just began a journey that would continue throughout the rest of my life. The one thing conclusion that i have come throughout these past 8 years is that foster system is indeed a problem that needs to be recognized and addressed by EVERYONE. And i hope to persuade you on this by exploring the problem, privileges, and promise for these kids. One of my all time favorite musicals as I was growing up was always Annie, about a sweet little orphan who through determination and a little positivity found a better life. But sadly as hard knock as Annie's life was, it is nothing compared to the actually reality. The early foster system was established in the 1500s in order to care for children who were removed from their parents. Foster care was intended to be a short–term solution until the child is either adopted or reunited with their family. However, because of how few people there are willing to take in these kids, the average child will spend over two years waiting to be adopted. But the flaws in this system run much deeper. ... I always liked to think of her as the sister I never had, I trusted her and she betrayed me. It was almost like she had it all planed out from the beginning. Like she smiled and said "I'm about to screw you over...". It was sunny outside, I heard the familiar names being called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of us new to middle school. I kept on asking myself if I could have done something different? If it was my fault? Maybe if I was a better friend, she would have stayed. For the rest of middle school I did not have any friends. I learned to find comfort in reading books and watching tv series. One thing I have to thank her for is that because of what happened I realized how much I love reading. My mother was worried that I spent most of my time locked up in my room, skipping meals. I wish I had known then that I would be okay. That I would make new friends and move forward in my life. I wonder now why it had taken three years for everything to finally fall apart. I knew the friendship was toxic, I have always know but I was to weak to stand up for myself. After a while, I forgave myself and learned to love myself, I learned not not care what other people think me as much. I finally stepped out her shadow and started to do thing I want to not because she wanted me to. Now, I try to surround myself with people that like me for who I am. I stopped apologizing for who I am and what I like to do. • 31. College Essay On Major Accomplishments As a freshman this year I have achieved some accomplishments from just part of the school year. One of these achievement would be getting cast as one of the main orphan in "Annie," for the musical production. Prior to that role I was cast as a snow flurry in the "Snow Queen," the fall play. An academic achievement would have to be getting "distinguish honor roll" the first half of the semester. Some other accomplishments were making varsity in cheerleading, meeting new people, and being able to obtain good grades during middle school and the first half of 9th grade. Areas that I would like to improve on would be to be more sociable, presentations, and being more proactive. Being more sociable means to me is to try to get to know someone better, like if they're new, and to not judge, ignore, or not speak to them. I need to be more open to new things and people. Presentations scare me, ever since 6th grade. I never liked them. I have been trying to work on my fear and to not be so afraid and nervous when I have a presentation. Being proactive would ... It is important because if you don't get the lesson or the material, you can always go to them for help. And I don't want to get bad grades because I didn't know something, but I could have asked the teacher beforehand. It is also good to learn to go to a teacher, if you were absent and get any assignment, notes, or work that you missed. The other skill that I have learned to use was to be organized. Being organized is helpful to me because I know what I am going to do each day. It's helpful, when being organized, to know where papers are and to know what needs to be done each day so no assignments are late. I will carry out this skill, probably, throughout my ... • 32. The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe Essay Throughout the life of Edgar Allan Poe, he suffered many unfortunate events and endured several difficult situations. Some speculate that it was these experiences that helped to formulate the famous writing style of Edgar Allan Poe. His dark tales such as "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Tell–Tale Heart" are horrific, and his poems such as "Alone" and "The Raven" show evidence that his life experiences influenced their dreariness. Poe's story plots and his own life are undeniably related and this relationship is intricately defined in many of his works. Poe lived in poverty all of his life, never seeing enough money from his writings to allow him to live comfortably, and never seeing his writing arrive at the famed status that ... After the loss of both of his parents, Edgar and his brother and sister were split up into separate foster homes. Edgar's foster father, Johnny Allan gave Edgar the middle name Allan, and not much more. This is one of many times in Edgar's life when he felt truly alone. As he grew up his foster parents sent him to private schools, moved him to England and to Baltimore, and eventually sent him to the University of Virginia. It was around this time that Edgar finally separated himself from his foster father who meant so little to him. When Edgar was at school he became actively involved in drinking, drugs and gambling. His foster father refused to help him pay his debts, so Edgar left his foster parents and went to find his family ( E. A. Poe Society of Baltimore Inc. "Poe Chronology" 1–4). Edgar's poem, "Alone", expresses his feelings of complete loneliness at this time in his life. The poem starts off, "From childhood's hour I have not been as others were– . . .." This illustrates Poe's trouble as a child, and his struggles through a time that most people are carefree and happy. The poem goes on to say ." . . Then – in my childhood – in the dawn/Of a most stormy life – . . .." This is a foreshadow into Poe's future that we now know will be even worse than his childhood. These two lines express how although Edgar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Persuasive Speech On Human Trafficking One of my all time favorite musicals as I was growing up was alway Annie, about a sweet little orphan who through determination and a little positivity found a better life. But has happened to orphans nowadays, you don't exactly drive by your neighborhood orphanage on your way to work. It seems that these children have disappeared, virtually falling off the face of the earth. Today they are called foster kids with families like my own housing them. The early foster system was established in the 1500s in order to care for children who were removed from their parents. Foster care was intended to be a short–term solution until the child is either adopted or reunited with their family. However, the average child will spend over two years waiting to be adopted. But the flaws in this system run much deeper, from mental disorders all the way to human trafficking. Human trafficking through the foster system is a dire problem that can not be neglected. We will examine this today by looking at three points; recognizing what the problem, understanding the pressure that they are under, and finally how you and i can help provide the promise of a new life So what exactly is the problem? Well according to the US department of health and human services, human trafficking is second largest criminal industry making $12 billion per year off of a staggering 1.2 million child victims, all from the ages 5 to 17. Unlike other criminal industries children can be sold over and over again. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Possible etiology of conduct disorder can include problems within the child's parents' marriage or family problems such as the child being in isolation from all family members (Mash & Wolfe, 2010). • 35. Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay Entertainment of the Great Depression Entertainment became very popular during The Great Depression. People could take their friends and family to see movies. They even influenced how people thought, dressed, and what music they listened to. Musicals were also popular, along with radio shows. There were even laws to regulate what media could, and could not show to the audience. Radio shows and musicals were even made to be relatable to viewers and listeners. In fact, some of the most influential movies, musicals, and radio shows that society knows and loves today were produced in the Great Depression. First, most people know about movies. Some famous movies like the Wizard of Oz, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Gone with the Wind. In fact Gone with the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz were some of the first movies to be "expensively produced with Technicolor" (Tim Dirks "Film History of the 1930s"). In 1937, the well–known Walt Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released and "was the first feature–length animated film" (Tim Dirks "Film History of the 1930s"). What many people don't realise is that even in modern times and even today there is still slavery although it occurs in many different forms still very prevalent today. Practices Regarded as Modern Day Slavery The general consensus of a definition of modern day slavery is taken from the 1956 UN supplementary convention. This states "Debt bondage, serfdom, forced marriage and the deliveries of a child for the exploitation of that child are slavery–like practices and require criminalisation and abolishment". (Annie Kelly, 2013) There are various different forms of modern day slavery as defined by the United Nations. These forms as defined by the UN: 1. • 37. Write An Essay On How It All Began The British Accent: How It All Began Musicals are meant to be corny, so are all forms of entertainment: clichéd and repetitive. Take this into account because much of my life has this vicious, almost comedic repetition which can question anyone's sanity once you become aware of it. It's very amusing that you would be able to track my emotional journey in cycles of confidence and insecurity. This tale, however, is the story that broke the cycle. There I was, not how you would expect because most of my friends characterized me as very friendly and uplifting when truly timidness, sensitiveness, and fragileness overshadowed those qualities. I was a diffident child. One who most teachers thought of as a diamond in the rough, with doll–like clumsiness and genuine innocence that they oathed to shelter away from ... I practiced, rehearsed, and sharpened my skills as much as I was able until I succumbed to the temptation of sleep. This cycle repeated its wrath for what seemed like an eternity until it finally came: the audition day I've been dreading for weeks on end. Fortunately, I was in no life or death predicament, and I finally managed to bite the bullet and do what I endeavored: act and sing. I somehow spit out my monologue and gagged out the lyrics to my song and it was over. Over!
