Compare Death Of A Moth By Annie Dillard
Death of a Moth There are stories that have been written that can be similar and different in many
ways. This can be seen through the story, Death of a Moth by Virginia Woolf and Annie Dillard.
Both writers share a similar topic, though their style of narration can compare and differ in many
ways. A theme throughout the story is death. Both authors take on a different view of death. While
death can be seen as a haunting experience or the end of a life. There are other interpretations that
can be made on this one topic. Both authors have twists in their stories with different ideas, which
aid to reveal their narration and expression regarding death.
Something both authors did similarly discuss the setting. Dillard was very specific with the
setting of the environment she is narrating from. She states, while warbler swung in the leaves
overhead and bristle worms trailed their inches over the twiggy dirt at my feet; and I read every
night by candlelight, while barred owls called in the forest and pale moths massed round my
head in the clearing (Dillard) She goes in depth to construe and give her readers the real
visualizing feeling that they are with her as she speaks. Similarly, Woolfe depicts her setting with
detail as well. She states, Presumably it was mid day, and work in the fields had stopped. Stillness
and quiet had replaced the previous animation. The birds had taken themselves off to feed in the
brooks. The horses stood still. Yet the power was there, all

Satirical Review Of The Play White Christmas By Irving...
How do you have a great Christmas if it isn t a white Christmas? White Christmas is a 1954
musical written by Irving Berlin. This musical was staged in the BLC theater. The musical
includes the Haynes sisters, Betty and Judy, and the two men, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis.
White Christmas is about two young men, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, after World War II, who
became a famous Broadway acts. Bob is unhappy and Phil thinks that Bob needs love in his life.
Phil begins to play matchmaker. Davis introduces Bob to a pair of beautiful sisters, Betty and Judy
Haynes. Betty and Judy tell them of their travels to a Vermont hotel to perform a Christmasshow
while Bob and Phil s show is in Miami. Phil and Judy devise a plan for him and Bob to go to
Vermont instead of going to Miami. Both couples run into each other on the train. When they reach
to the hotel, the men run into their former commander, General Waverly, who is the owner of the
hotel.Their former commander was struggling to keep up with the hotel. The men then decided to
help him by hosting their show in the barn behind the hotel. Meanwhile, Betty thinks that Bob is
trying to buy and sell the hotel from his former general which leads to a big miscommunications and

The man who plays Bob Wallace had an impeccable voice. When he sang Count Your Blessings ,
believe the audience was counting those blessings listening to his voice. The man who played
Phil Davis was also a great singer but his dancing skills were better since he did not have many
leads in singing. The women who played the Haynes sisters were also great especially when
performing their duet Sisters . The woman who play Betty was so convincing with her feelings
toward Bob Wallace and did not make the kiss awkward between the two. The woman who
played Judy was also amazing. Judy also did a great job by staying in character since there was
two wardrobe malfunctions. The actors were formidable in their acting

Josh s The Message
I found Josh s presentation on The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to be very
compelling. Rap music is the most popular genre of music amongst American adolescence, and
especially amongst Latino and African American adolescence. Although an immensely popular
genre, and one which I am a regular listener, I was completely unaware about the origins of this
music genre. After hearing Josh s presentation, I feel more appropriately informed about this genre
s history and the ways in which its founders and early promoters used this musical form as both an
escape and a means of articulating their hardships. In his presentation, Josh provided a thorough
history and explanation of the circumstances in which the song s writers lived,... Show more content

The chorus exposes how painfully difficult it was to maintain sanity for the individuals living in
South Bronx at times, and each set of lyrics presents a new reason as to why the circumstances
are bleak. For example, discussing how a young woman moved to the city in the hopes of pursuing
a more exciting life is forced to turn to prostitution and acquire a pimp because she is unable to
maintain an income otherwise, and the different mentions of theft, an inadequate education system,
infestation of rats and cockroaches in homes, and the filth of the community which was the only
place many could afford to live. The forced laugh at the end emphasizes an achieve happiness, or
at the least maintain sanity. The rappers weren t blissful or happy about the circumstances they
described, and the way in which the laugh is articulated in a choppy and forced nature makes that
very clear. Ultimately, I really enjoyed Josh s presentation because he gave the class a thorough,
insider perspective into life in South Bronx by elaborating on the history and explaining the

Critique Of Mcdevitt s Book Report
Question Two: A critique of McDevitt s Book
McDevitt s book is a well written and useful publication for learners, people with interest or
managers in the administration of their respective investigative unit. Fundamentally, there is plenty
of useful information in the book.
To begin with, the author highlights how efficacy can be increased amid the investigative officers
and how resources can be used to make investigations better. These are very important points
because they assist a lot of people in a number of ways. Chiefly, the management of resources is
perhaps the single biggest hurdle in management of investigations. Generally, investigations require
a lot of funds to proceed. On the same note, they involve travelling and a lot of field ... Show more

Certainly, this perspective is important in a situation where the number of investigative officers is
limited. However, this is not entirely true in most situations. In reality, the number of investigative
officers is usually sufficient to handle the crimes that are reported. Concerning the issues of time, it
would be prudent of the author to only suggest that the arrival time of the investigators should be
prompt to facilitate faster collection of evidence but not that the patrol officers should take it upon
themselves to begin the investigations. The author repeats this point in a number of sections.
Seemingly, the author has a certain bias towards extending favorable treatment towards the patrol

Narrative Essay On Grandpa s House
Against odds appearing as though they could never get conquered, I d managed to climb out of
an inescapable hole. Upon reaching the halfway point of a six week Summer 2012 crash course
in Intermediate Spanish, my grade stood at an awful 74% (or a solid C). A big opportunity for
redemption soon arrived in the form of an assignment to give a four to six minute presentation in
Spanish about someone who has affected my life in a profound and powerful way. Using notes
taken during a visit one weekend to Grandpa s house, I gave a speech Professor Almonte thought
was bueno enough to merit an A grade. Feeling my confidence bolstered, I tackled the remaining

Grandpa s dad and his friends fought in bars, saloons, gymnasiums, and other such places where

They would stand toe to toe and have these slugfests, and people would pay twenty cents or

Analysis of acid by titration with sodium hydroxide
Ms. Hoang
November 2012
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate an example of how to determine the
unknown molarity of hydrochloric acid by titration with a base (sodium hydroxide). Titration is a
common laboratory method of quantitative chemical analysis that is used to determine the
unknown concentration of an identified analyte (wekipedia). The first step will be measuring and
combining water and acid (Hydrochloric acid). An indicator anthocyanin will be added to the
solution to change the color to pink. Anthocyanin is a water soluble vacuolar pigment that may
appear red, purple, or blue depending on the pH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this experiment after adding enough sodium hydroxide to the indicator solution; the
solution changed color to blue, an indication of the stoichiometric end point. All three trials
showed the proper color change. This proved that the color change indicated that the pH level had
changed in solution and the amount of base added is chemically equivalent to the acid in the flask.
The formula M1xV1=M2xV2 was used to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric
acid. The results from the trials showed that the concentration of hydrochloric acid was 0.2M. The
concentration of the two acids should be relatively close in order to cancel each other out. It was
complicated to compare the two concentrations since the given molarity of sodium hydroxide is in
the one decimal place holder, whereas the calculated concentration for hydrochloric acid is in a two
decimal place. From the lab it can be concluded that pH indicators can be an imprecise method to
calculate the concentration of an unknown concentration.

Critical Analysis Of Vanity Fair
Critical Analysis The novel Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray is a mystery story of
the various kinds of vanity driven people in a city lead by social status. Many, if not all, main
characters in one way or another commit a heinous deed in order to feel better about themselves.
Their selfishness is almost always the driving force behind all of their motives. This novel
perfectly captures Thackerays satirical writing. It pinpoints all the flaws within those that are vain,
both low and high class, and often humors himself by inserting witty ways to solve each of the
characters problems. Satirical writing is a genre for authors that want to call attention to important
topics such as vanity, government, the environment, and much more. There is humor and wit
intertwined with the sarcastic remarks of an author. Vanity Fair is one book that covers just how
vain all classes can be shown through symbolism, tone, and setting. Thackeray uses the low points
in his life as inspiration for his novels and short stories. They are heavily reflected as the themes,
topics taught to teach readers and hopefully mold their minds and persuade them in some way. One
way he displays these messages is through the symbolism in his writing. As a satirist and moralist,
he exposes the incongruity that can be lost between romance and reality (McMaster). It is true that
Vanity Fair is deserving of the subtitle A Novel without a Hero because of the unheroic characters
selfishly acting for their

Ethical Dilemmas And The Ethical Dilemma
Ethical dilemmas occur when there is a disagreement about a situation and all parties involved
question how they should behave based on their individual ethical morals. (Newman Pollnitz,
2005). The dilemma that I will be addressing in this essay involves Michael, recently employed
male educator working in the nursery, and parents of a baby enrolled at the centre. The parents
have raised concerns about male educators changing their child s nappy as they have cultural
practices that do not allow this practice to take place. This situation is classed as an ethical
dilemma as there is a dispute between cultural beliefs and legal requirements within the workplace.

6.1, quality area 6 of the National Quality Standards (NQS) outlines the importance of relationships
in regard to the parents, their child/children and educators. (Australian Children s Education Care
Quality Authority [ACECQA], n.d.). Michael has considered the families cultural beliefs and has
decided to remain respectful of their request, but is concerned about his rights concerning gender
discrimination (Australian Human Rights Commission, n.d.). Michael has a right to retain his
position in the nursery room regardless of the issue with nappy changes for this one child. To
allow for minimal disruption and any further consequences, the situation is to be kept confidential.
This is a short term resolution. The situation should be monitored and there may be long term
issues if the parents fail to form a relationship with Michael. Therefore, this may result in Michael
requesting a change of room in the future (Ethical group discussion, 2017). The resolution was
reached through exploring the steps involved in the ERC. As a group, (each group member
representing a person in the dilemma) we examined eight steps in the ERC. Throughout each
phase, the child s primary best interests were considered by all parties. As the director progressed
through the ERC, it became clear that both the parents and Michael have legal rights that need to
be addressed.

Counterculture In The 1960s
1967 was a year focused around counterculture as a revolutionary new movement captured the
nation s attention. This phenomenon, whose members were called hippies, originated with
America s youth, though it quickly spread to other nations. Hippies advocated personal freedom
and expression and hoped to create a society full of peace, harmony, and love. As hippies
challenged traditional societal values in an attempt to find inner peace, many members began to
experiment with a variety of mediums, including illegal drugs, such a marijuana and LSD; bold
fashion, such as tie dyed shirts, long hair, and love beads; and sexual freedom. Following a

The year began with a bad start when Vietcong soldiers attacked several South Vietnam cities in a

Vietcong were close to defeat. However, this surprise attack proved that the Vietcong were still
strong and that the government had been deceiving the public. This incident changed the opinions
of millions of Americans and support for the Vietnam War was at an all time low. However, events

Martin Luther King Jr. The assassination of Robert Kennedy, who was the brother of JFK and

Why United States Invades Iraq
First of all , the paper first way is going to expound about why United States invades Iraq in 2003
for serveral reasons as illustrates: first of all, since United States want to implement the economic
sanction to Iraq, they start to invade the Iraq in 2003 and also occupied the Iraqi capital of
Baghdad. To be specific, according to research information is clearly shown that due to the Gulf War
, the United Nations asked Iraqto stop all chemical and biological weapons because they are
worried that it will bring negative influence to the citizen, society and the world. For example, it is
being showing by The United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) performed inspections in
Iraq to make sure that the conditions of the peace agreement that followed the first Gulf War were

to take the military sanctions to against Iraq, Washington s own one side to take no fly zones in
the northern and the southern of Iraq. At the same time, the research states that after the first Gulf
War, the President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton signed an agreement which is a

and preventing Saddam s military coup. Not only does it prevent Saddam s military coup, but also
it can take effective means for the Iraqi military. In addition, according to JHSS article claims that

carved out a significant slice of business in a highly competitive segment.
One of those vehicles is the NV200, a compact cargo van expressly designed to meet the needs of
business enterprises. The NV200 is the ideal complement to the full size NV, itself a competitor to
the Ford Transit, Chevrolet Express, and GMC Savana. The NV was introduced in 2012.

that I had been thrown into it, in the middle of a fight, (86). There are two rivers at Devon,
Devon River, and the Naguamsett. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can
be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes
place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed
with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. This is the opposite
of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into

The Importance Of Self Esteem

The Importance of Self Esteem
It is often said that if an individual wishes to succeed in life they must have confidence. That in
order to handle difficult situations it is confidence that will see them through. But what if that s
wrong? What if there was a lesser known, subtly more powerful force that would allow an
individual to succeed and be resilient to those difficult situations? Often confused with confidence,
it is self esteem that is a powerful mechanism affecting mental well being, resiliency, and physical
health. However, before understanding how self esteem effects humans it is important to
differentiate it from its oft confused cousin: confidence.
In order to understand the importance of self esteem it is necessary to establish a basis. Both
definitions that are hereby given were extracted from the Psychology Dictionary in order to
maintain consistency. Therefore to begin, self confidence is the varying levels of trust we place
in our skills, reasoning, and capacity. For example: David has high self confidence in his ability
to complete the task at hand though he s never experienced the task before. The example
illustrates that David doesn t need confidence in himself nor in his self image, but in tangible
assets of skill, capacity, and reasoning. If David fails in being able to complete the task then he
knows that his high self confidence was inaccurate and can adjust his trust regarding that task for

Sir Thomas Malory s Nobility Essay
Nobility in the medieval time shad unquestionable value attached to it. Majority of the nobles lived
their lives in luxury and were rich beyond the common man s wildest dreams. The thought of the
medieval knights often brings nobility in mind, hence the question whether knights had to emanate
from the noble class. Exemplary works by Sir Thomas Malory (1408 1471) recount the marvelous
adventures of chivalrous, heroic knights of super human ability. The knights, abiding by the
chivalry s strict codes of honor and demeanor went on quests to fight and defeat monsters and
giants, thereby winning favor with a lady. Chivalry simply means having the skills to handle a
horse. This ability, especially in combat, was of utmost importance to a medieval knight. This term
began to take on new meanings, especially during the first crusade (1095 AD) when
Christianization of knights began in earnest. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

saying were he of noble birth he would have asked for a horse and armor. No! He is nothing but a

position on knighthood. Through his statement, Sir Kay effectively equates knighthood with nobility
from birth. As such Sir Kay doubts Beaumains to the extent of challenging him to combat.
Subsequently, Beaumains swiftly defeats Sir Kay even though unarmed with neither a spear nor
a shield. Beaumains there after give sout Sir Kay s symbol of knighthood (his horse) to his dwarf
implying that the dwarf would have become a better knight than Sir Kay. These developments
reduced Sir Kay to a lowly, laughable knight of little significance. Sir Kay is demeaned in this
manner and as such Malory effectively shows that Sir Kay is wrong on the noble and essential

Negligence And The Negligence Tort Essay
Introduction
Negligence is conduct causing damage to another, in breach of the defendant s duty of care owed
to the other (pg 425 Terry and Giugni (8.10).) This definition states the defendant is responsible
towards the plaintiff, if a breach of recognized standard of duty is not adhered to and the plaintiff
suffers an injury as a result. A liability may incur if the resulting injury could have been prevented
or foreseen. The defendants and plaintiffs both have their opinions and views towards the negligence
tort, and it will be looked into further detail in the Jack and Thea Holiday Tour case.
In order to completely understand the liability in negligence, there must be reasonable
foreseeability present which includes three main elements of negligence They are Duty of Care,
Breach of Duty and Remoteness of Damage (pg436 437 (8.220) Terry and Giugni) In addition the
plaintiff must also satisfy the four traditional elements of negligence in order to have a claim; (pg
431 (8.140) Terry and Giugni)
Part A
Duty of care
In the tort of negligence it is important to recall the 1932 House of Lords case, Donoghue v
Stevenson AC 562 (pg. 435 (8.200) Terry and Giugni). The case outlined that duty of care must be
shown towards the other, as if the other does not anticipate the risk, they would potentially suffer
injury or death. According to the law, Priscilla Tours is liable for any maltreatment caused by their

The WWII lasts almost six years, which happened in 1939 and ended in 1946. Japan belongs to

motivations for its aggression: economic, political, and social. The first is the economic motivation,
at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the second industrial revolutionwas in full swing. The

environment and the expansion modes of capitalism in America and European countries

Negative Effects Of Social Media Essay
Social media in this day and age weighs heavy on our everyday lives. Society tends to spend way
too much time on their mobile devices and computers on social media of all sorts including but not
limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It can create unwanted problems in relationships,
weight gain due to lack of physical activity, It may distract you for long periods of timewithout
realizing it and delay you from real world responsibilities. Social media may be one of the
biggest issues this society has. Another issue social media causes, it makes us lazy as a whole.
We lose the ability to spell, use proper grammar, or even punctuation. One of the biggest
problems with social media is the unwanted problems in a relationship. People spend way too
much time on their devices and instead of spending their much needed free time with their
families. Using social media during family time is not good family practice. Social media may
help with some everyday activities but during family time can be unacceptable for some people
and may actually hurt their feelings. This can also make the other party feel unimportant or
ignored, creating a tense barrier in a relationship. This is something that I myself have to work
on. My family says I spend way too much time on my cell phone looking onto Facebook. One
might think that he/she doesn t spend a lot of time on the social media but we do. It can at times

Looking At A Few Of Them
Introduction
Throughout the last twenty five years, the notable director of animated films, Hayao Miyazaki, has
brought not only exhilarating and mysterious stories to life, but also multiple issues that he tries to
convey through each of his films. Looking at a few of them, Miyazaki expresses issues about
feminism, war, environmental issues, and much more. The question that will try to be answered
throughout this essay is, how does Hayao Miyazaki use the elements and principles of art to express
environmental issues and impacts within his films? Through the use of color, scene composition,
and motion, Hayao Miyazaki is able to portray the earth s natural beauty while also conveying
human waste and destruction of the environment and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an important and yet, traumatic memory for Miyazaki. He expresses its significance in
his life by incorporating it within the films, My Neighbor Totoro and also his latest movie, The
Wind Rises. The characters with tuberculosis are both female and struggle with being diagnosed
with it. He tries to portray the love, sadness, and possible hope for a cure for tuberculosis within
those films. What inspired Miyazaki and also directed him towards the path of animation and
the world of manga (Japanese comics) was in 1958 when he watched the colored film Hakuja
Den ( Hayao Miyazaki Biography ). Surprisingly, instead of acquiring a degree in the arts, he
went to Gakushuiin University and graduated with a Political Science and Economics degree (
Hayao Miyazaki Biography ). Miyazaki chose this degree because he thought it was practical
and he had planned on helping reestablish Japans economy and recovery from war ( Hayao
Miyazaki Newsmakers). However, during his time in university and his strong passion for
drawing, he joined the children s literature research club ( Hayao Miyazaki Biography ). This had
been the closest thing to comics at the time ( Hayao Miyazaki Biography ). It exposed him to
many fairytales, myths, and mysteries around the world and is probably the reason why his stories
mainly involve children, are mainly fantasy based, and incorporate old tales. The same year he

Eight Jews Hide from the Nazis in the Play, Secret Annex...
It is the year of 1942. Hitler has taken power in Europe. Eight Jews went into hiding after Hitler s
decision to exterminate the Jews. The eight, helped by the helpers, had to live together in a tiny
attic with fear of Hitler s green police. Mr. Frank is one of the eight Jews who went into hiding in
the Secret Annex in the Diary of Anne Frankby Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. This play is
about Jews gone into hiding, and lives a hard life. Mr. Frank, one of the Jews, is a welcoming,
helpful, and a problem solver who helps the group to stay together and get over with hard times.
Welcoming means to be gladly accept other people. Mr. Frank has shown this trait throughout the

though they live in this dangerous place and one sound could lure the Green Police. Overall,
Mr. Frank has shown a really helpful trait throughout the play. Last but not least, Mr. Frank also
is a problem solver along with his helpful and welcoming traits. Problem solver is a person that
always has a solution to any problems. When the thief breaks in, Mr. Frank was calming
everyone down (Goodrich and Hackett). This shows Mr. Frank was calm and clear headed even
in this situation, and he was able to solve the panic among the group. Next, Mr. Dussel was
saying that he thought Franks moved to Switzerland when they saw the address in wastebasket,
Anne said, Father put that there purposely (Goodrich and Hackett, Pg. 506). Mr. Frank clearly
shows a good problem solver s smartness, and he was able to make other people to think that
they went to Switzerland, but not they went in hiding. Also, Mr. Frank tries to calm everyone
down when Mr. Van Daan steals food (Goodrich and Hackett, Pg. 534). Mr. Frank was able to

Finding The Right Words Of The Ancient Chinese...
Finding the Right Words
After a 40 year career in which the need to write has always featured prominently, I still find the
prospect of committing pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, a daunting experience. Don t get me
wrong, I don t dislike writing. On the contrary, I derive a great sense of satisfaction from
completing any writing task or assignment. Indeed, a lifetime of writing leads me to believe that
writing well and enjoying the experience, like most worthwhile endeavors, requires preparation,
hard work, and an unyielding commitment and desire to succeed. Furthermore, I have come to
realize that in the words of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, A journey of a thousand
miles must begin with a single step. At the outset, I feel that every writing project is like a
thousand mile journey, and I know I ll get there in the end if only I have the courage take that first,
single step if only I can find the right words.
My earliest recollection of writing is at around six or seven years old, meticulously copying
longhand letters and words in my elementary school copybook. The perfectly formed characters,
uniformly spaced at the top of each page, appealed to my sense of order encouraging me to
replicate the cursive lettering as faithfully as I could on the printed lines below. By the time I
reached high school, I had mastered the art of legible, almost calligraphic script. The mechanics
were easy, creating interesting and articulate content, not so much.

Bystander Effect Theory Essay
The Bystander Effect Theory
Have you seen a group of children bullying or pushing around another child? Did you stand by and
watch the situation and not intervene? If so, even with such a minor situation, you fell into the
bystander effect theory. The bystander effect happens every day in our lives and dates all the way
back to the Holocaust and even further back in history.
The bystander effect theory is a psychological phenomenon were people do not help others in
emergency situations when there are others present, the bigger the crowd the less likely chance of
someone stepping in to help. In 1964, there was a woman who was brutally murdered and there
were approximately 30 witnesses who did not intervene to save her. This case was ... Show more

People are just trying to live life and survive and if the situation is too out of control where we
are talking about guns being involved, then that s where people would draw a line and not do
anything to help. People start to fear that their own life becomes in danger if they try to intervene
in something of that magnitude. I can completely understand why people would be more hesitant
when it comes to helping others when they fear their own life can be taken from them. This type
of fear is one of the main reason the Holocaust happened and people did very little to help the Jews.
During the Holocaust there were mass killings involving huge crowds and a very massive witness
group. The Germans were brain washed to think the Jews were horrible people and they blamed
them for taking away their dignity as a country. There are reports of dozen of witness that stood
by and did nothing to help. A photographer took pictures of a man, a Luthuanian, beating 30 40
men to death with a crow bar then watched as they sang their national anthem on top of the dead
bodies. With a crowd so enormous and so many people with hate in their hearts it would be so
hard for someone to intervene in that type of situation. Another example from the reading is a
medical man was about to offer a bandage to a Jewish lady but one of the guards approached them
and threatened the medical s man life. The guard instilled fear in this man and he went back and told

Park Observation
My observation had been conducted near my home, a local park to be exact. This park had been
a day to place for adventure and fun during my youth. This gave me an important perspective in
observing the park consisting of individuals who I could easily connect to.This allowed for me to
be easily influenced by the factors surrounding the park that connect to my early life. I see things
and compare them to my own youth and it affects my judgement on different topics. My
standpoint is critical in determining and analyzing the different factors that I saw at the park.

As stated above, my early childhood experiences are crucial when making inferences and
understanding the reasoning behind them. I created two groups depending on their role within
the game I observed; The Runners and Hunters. Regardless of the game I was observing, I
refereed to the Runners as little miniscule critters and the bigger kids to be the Hunters or the bad
guys, which show the pre incorporated experience from my past. My biggest weakness was the
influence of prior experience on my present judgement. I had tried to connect to the people I had
chosen to observe, and that changed the end result of my investigation causing it to be impacted on
a personal level.
The topic I had chosen to observe was limited by the time frame and the individuals I had looked
at. The time had been a big factor, as 60 minutes is nowhere near enough time to fully understand
the environment and critically analyze it. Besides time, as I read over my observation I realized that
I was not taking into consideration that there were parents at the park, I only choose to look at the
children. Having incorporated the parents as a part of the observation would have provided a more
explorable environment to conduct this observation.
In conclusion, if developed under an anthropologist, the observation would have the common theme
of factual data evidence incorporated into the critical writing analysis rather than the creative
storytelling which was the case for my

Denial Class Discussion Questions I would suggest that you develop notes for these.
1. What is denial and what problems does it lead to?
Denial is how we pay attention to everything today; we are constantly making unconscious choice
about what to notice, and not to notice. It means when something happened and the person lies to
cover up or used to escape from the truth, According to the book, Denial is the unconscious calculus
that if an unpleasant reality were true, it would be too terrible, so therefore it cannot be true.
Denial today is all around us, if we ignore the obvious at a certain moment because we simply don
t want to confront it, it might lead to more problems. The longer we ignore it the more serious it ...

Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates Essay
Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates
Naked women have been in the front of feminist s minds for several decades. Especially when they
are pictured in soft pornography magazine Playboy. Feminists for years have been yelling that
Playboy is harmful to both men and women. Males around the country have countered that there is
nothing wrong with their Playboy, it is merely a harmless vice. The problem I see with Playboy is
not that it demeans women or subjugates them, and its not that it leads to violence. The main
problem is that it fosters unrealistic images and expectation in men s minds about women. But
since there is little we can do about it now, we merely need to take that first step and recognize

I interviewed one person on each side of this issue, to get the token opinion that is popular on
their side of the issue. On this side is Ursula, an extremely quotable quasi feminist who makes a
strong case for her side.[1] Ursula sums up the feminist argument by saying, Guys see the idealized
sex goddess, how can women compete? First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked
woman in a magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy
and men s magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy
objectifies women, leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft
pornography leads to hard pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick
Heibert in his article A hard line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing
soft pornography inevitably leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further
and contend that the viewing of violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of
committing a violent sexual crime (Cramer 202). These articles would present statistical research
backing themselves up, more likely than not the Meese Commission will make it in to any feminist
critique.
Feminists present a third argument saying that magazines such as Playboy lead to depression or
anorexia in women, especially amongst impressionable young women (Chancer, 85). There is little
argument against teenagers

The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America
Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government
did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the
California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied
the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking
basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most
unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on
freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years
ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African
American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave
herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not
criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of
Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or
death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many
colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after.
Despite some states constituting strict marriage laws, other states upheld various other political
values in their legal systems. Soon after gaining statehood, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts

Organics Vs Organic Food
The term organic has been highly overrated throughout recent years. Considered to be better for
the environment and for a person s health, organics are believed to be a better option when
purchasing food, when in reality they are just as good compared to regular food. Even so, organics
have more drawbacks rather than benefits. With organics high price, lack of nutritional value, and
environmental upset, it is no wonder why a majority of the population chooses to purchase regular
food over organics.
While organics may be healthier compared to regular food, the high price of organics is
impractical for members in the community. Money is a key factor for consumers when
purchasing food and most people do not want to give in to the high price tag when there are
other options for a better deal. A pound of beef for instance, costs $9.99 organically while a
regular pound of beef only costs $6.49, according to a 2015 consumer report. Based on the lower
price tag, people are more prone to buy the regular beef as they can gain a necessary source of
protein yet sustain the budget they desire. . When purchasing food, prices need to be considered
as the views of the buyers can be changed if a product is worth more than what they want to spend.
Compared to organic food, it is more reasonable for people to purchase regular food as the lower
price tag allows them to buy larger quantities and varieties. Additionally, organic foods disregard
different social classes within the community.

Lord Of The Flies Ego Superego Analysis
In every human being, a constant battle is occurring between two very diverse consciences.
William Golding portrayed this battle through his novel, Lord of the Flies, and with Sigmund
Freud s psychoanalysis theories of ID, Ego, and Superego. ID usually delineates the avarice and
guile side of the soul. Superego, however, represents the euphonious and benign voice of the soul.
The Ego is a balance of the two and is gullible to the forces of both voices. Golding uses these three
forces to show that without the pureness of the conscience, human spiritis innately evil and
corruptible. Thus, Golding uses Freud s ID, Ego, and Superego to demonstrate the overall theme of
the flexibility of the human spirit towards evil through Jack s recklessness, Ralph s senseof balance,
and Simon s cherubic attitude.
The character of Jack symbolizes the ID side of the soul because of his recklessness through his
obsession with hunting and fun on the island. His obsession started when he felt the power from
killing his first pig, He noticed blood on his hands and grimaced distastefully, looked for
something on which to clean them, then wiped them on his shorts and laughed ... We ll go
hunting every day (Golding 69/70). This quote shows that when the ID receives power, it will
take full advantage of it and will enjoy it, just like Jack did when he saw the blood from the pig.
This quote also shows that how the ID treats everything as a game and something to laugh at, which
is exactly what Jack

chopping to be bopping, to hip hopping (Def 585), Mos Def is describing the progress blacks
has made since the Harlem Renaissance. The writers from the Harlem Renaissance was looking
for the dream, Mos Def response to Harlem Renaissance is that blacks are living the dream. There
are many flaws but there has been some progression since the earlier times of the Harlem
Renaissance.
Langston Hughes poem I, Too was written during a time when segregation was in affect, blacks

Collaborative Group Experience
Introduction Groups and teamwork are an essential aspect of everyday life. It is suggested that
groups have the potential to outperform individuals (Mottola Utkus, 2009). There are several facets
that impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are
also important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models,
and actions that can be taken to establish successful work. Experiential learning will be used to
analyze a groupexperience that the author found to be meaningful. Additionally, team dynamic
concepts and theories will aid in analyzing the experience.
Concrete Experience A meaningful group experience revolved around a group presentation for

The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a
subpar presentation. As the presentation was a significant portion of our final grade, it was
imperative for the author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the
presentation before it was a complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the
requirements of the assignment were met, and the presentation was delivered in order to avoid
failure for the assignment. The other members of the group that also took initiative to complete the
assignment were motivated to achieve these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation
were fueled by conflict and determined to create a negative experience because of refusal for
agreement. The individuals removed themselves from the group and choose to work on aspects of
the presentation alone. This impacted the group negatively because there was lack of
communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan Bunashe and Lindsay Broder suggest
that conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on creativity and productivity (Bunashe
Broder, 2015). The actions of the individuals who refused to participate in the group obstructed the
presentation flow, and resulted in a negative experience for

The House On Mango Street Chapter 2 Summary
When I returned to the Petit Salon , the atmosphere was more collected. Dame Chaboix had
convinced Henri de Valfort to accept to be the 4th hand , and they were now, playing bridge with
SantГ©glise and Saturnin Valloix. The Baron was watching them with a detached interest.
Holding a glass of cognac in his hand, he stood in front of the table, on the Dummy s side. When
he saw me enter, he put down the glass on the nearby pedestal table which occupied a corner of
the room, then, he looked at his watch (mine indicated 11:30 PM), and he came over to speak to
me. Ah! Morsirisse! So! Did you see anything? Not a soul. Your father in law can relax. No one s
marauding on the premises. Merci, Morsirisse, he said. What you need now is a good cognac to
warm you up. Indeed. Has Г‰tienne finally found the NapolГ©on 98 ? I asked. The Baron de

With your permission, I ll speak to Г‰tienne, I said. I will get the bottom of it, I promise you.
The Baron was still uncertain about what to do. A doubt was casting a shadow over his
forehead. Fortunately, this hesitation was of short duration, and, shaking his worries away, he
grabbed my arm, laughing. Come on, Morsirisse! Let s rejoin the ladies. They have already
complained that I am monopolizing you. I acquiesced, but as I followed him, I still mulled over
this incident which was adding its mystery to a situation already sufficiently complicated in
itself. I could not help feeling guilty for merely suspecting my best and only friend. However,
everything evaporated, when I realized that the Baronne de Valfort was smiling at me. Where
have you been, Monsieur Morsirisse, she asked, before I even had a chance to come close. I wasn t

Technology And Its Impact On The World War I
For thousands of years from all corners of the world, mankind has dreamed of these larger than life
frays fought between the most massive and powerful nations embodied the name given to them.
Advancements and a flourishing in technology is due to the innovation of the airplane to be
utilized on, or over the front lines of the the most devastating battles to ever scar the face of the
earth. To many, the skies in the dawn of World War I
was a new frontier, and any type of aviation
on its own was relatively new to this era. In a short span of time an untrusted mode of
transportation was transformed into a war machine. who had the unique condition of being in the

During the first of the many days of World War I, the pilots were considered the eyes of the army
(Feltus 1). They were used mainly to scout enemy positions, and then report the whereabouts of
the enemy to the army. However, these aircrafts started out as slow and proved as easy targets
for the enemy and the advanced anti aircraft weapons, and there was a massive loss of life as a
result of this (Wilkin 4). One monumental event that occurred during the Second World War, was
when the British Royal Air Force conducted a bombing of Berlin, and thus Germany had fallen
back multiple weeks in planning their highly effective and dangerous rocket programs (Bailey
133). The raid of the German capital city was a decisive event in World War II, and allowed the
Allies to get the edge over the Axis powers. Although reconnaissance and bomber pilots were
extremely important, fighter pilots had a more cataclysmic effect on the war. As almost all pilots
grew tired of using pistols to shoot at enemy planes while having to fly, they wanted an easier
and more effective way to both fly and take down an opposing plane. Then, on one day in 1915,
the Germans captured the plane of French aviator Roland Garros, and since Garros had
innovatively built a machine gun that fired in between the spinning of his propellers, the German
army sent the plane to the Fokker plane factory and the design was copied. After the Germans got
their hands on Garros

The Biological And Environmental Causes Of Alpine Ecosystems
Introduction
Alpine Ecosystems Alpine lands account for approximately 20% of the Earth s total terrestrial
land mass and house almost 10% of the world s population (Ives and Messerli, 1999). Alpine
ecosystems are categorized similarly to high latitudinal locations as extreme ecosystems . In these
ecosystems, there are controls to the environmental variables that govern their hydrological and
biological cycles. For example, they often experience extreme conditions of light, temperature, and
precipitation that may restrict and limit vegetation growing conditions and the abundance of live
animals. However, these limiting conditions have also established the ideal conditions for a wide
distribution of snow and ice across mountains and plateaus (Xiao et al., 2002) and are characterized
by rapid seasonal changes, which plays an important role in the regional climate and any available
water resources (Goodison et al., 1999).
The fourth assessment report published by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 4AR)
found that global warming is unequivocal, and has been confirmed by a rise in average air and
ocean temperatures, the widespread melting of snow and ice, and a rise in mean sea level. The
IPCC 4AR also concluded that warming is expected to be greatest in the extreme environments of
high northern latitudes and upper alpine basins. It is anticipated that snow cover will diminish and
that heat waves and heavy precipitation events will become more frequent.

You couldn t buy her, though, that s what s killing you, isn t it? That s it, Steff. She thinks you re

comedy, romance, and drama film taking place in the 80 s, where there are heartbreaks and
reconciliations. The screenplay for the 1986 movie was written by John Hughes and directed by
Howard Deutch. A teenager Andie Walsh, Molly Ringwald, must choose between her childhood
sweetheart Duckie, Jon Cryer, and a rich boy Blane McDonnagh, Andrew McCarthy. The film
Pretty In Pink won the BMI Film Music Award in 1987 a year after the movie was released.
Andie is a high school senior that has only a father because her mom abandoned them. Andie is a
very talented girl because she makes her own designs of clothes. She has two friends whom she

Spader makes a huge impact on the movie because in the movie he is Andrew McCarthy s friend
and tells him that he cannot be Andie s boyfriend. The actor Jon Cryer does a great job of being
Andie s friend and nothing else but her friend. In the movie, Jon Cryer fails his classes to spend
time with Andie, waits for her to come out of a club which he cannot go in, defends her when he
hears Stef talking to Blane, and sings a song for her. Jon Cryer has his moments and his jokes in
the movie like in Two In A Half Men. Andrew McCarthy and Molly Ringwald had to be in a
relationship because they come from two completely different worlds but they show that nothing is
more important than love. McCarthy and Ringwald show exactly the acting on the movie about
how teenagers react to love and how they react to breakups. Duckie was very convincing with his
acting by showing his emotions towards

Virgin Atlantic Airways, ten years after.INSEAD case study...
1 Executive summary
Virgin is currently the third most recognized brand in Britain and it is commonly associated with
the identity of its founder Richard Branson. Branson is not your typical corporate businessman but
rather a risk taking entrepreneur that emphasizes the fun in every activity he is driving the Virgin
group into. Virgin s best known operations are probably air travel (the Virgin Atlantic and Virgin
Express airlines) and music stores (Virgin Megastores), but they are also involved in trains, finance,
internet services, soft drinks, mobile phones, cars, wines, publishing, and bridal wear to name but a
few. Although Virgin has successfully developed a differentiation strategy in each of these sectors,
some of the group s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is estimated that if Branson s stakes in the various companies were put on the public markets
today, they would be worth approximately $3 billion (Time Magazine, 5 March 2001). Since
Virgin has such a diverse range of businesses and international activities, the company presents a
challenging study in seeking to understand the overall Virgin strategy, critical success factors and
why specific Virgin companies were launched. Also of interest are some of Virgin s rare failures
and apparent present difficulties. The choice of Virgin as a target company presents additional
challenges since it is not a publicly listed company, and consequently there is a limited amount of
thorough facts and analysis available.
The overall project objective is to gain an understanding of what Virgin s future strategic options
might be and conclude with our considered final strategic recommendations.
3Company and industry background
The Virgin group of companies have a very strong brand name in Britain and is, according to
Virgin s website, also now becoming the first global brand name of the 21st Century . Virgin s best
known operations are probably air travel (the Virgin

Observation On Observation
You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different
grades,
1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not?
After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I
was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a
kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited
to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children
myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much
responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am
helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and
encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be
successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy
teaching them what they need to know.
2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester?
Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain.
I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was
also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince
me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to
stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more
successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day,
rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get
used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be
more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in
elementary school the teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans
so all the subjects relate to each other, which I would love to do. I don t have one subject I prefer
over others, so I

A Comparison of Two Newspaper Articles
A Comparison of Two Newspaper Articles In this essay I will be comparing two articles taken
from local newspapers in different areas. I will be looking at the techniques used in each article and
their effectiveness. I will use this comparison to eventually decide which article is the more
effective of the two.
The two headlines from the articles are quite different. Inches from tragedy is a large, bold
headline written in a way that makes you want to see what the headline is talking about, as it
sounds serious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that both articles use emotive language very well, and that they are equally good at getting
there point across through using language.
Both of the articles feature one long, main interview and one shorter interview towards the end of
the article. The interviews have been included in each case to give the reader an account of the
events in the article from one of the people involved. This is a good idea as people who were
actually involved in the events of the article will be able to give more information on what actually
happened, and will probably know things that no one else does. Having interviews also makes the
reader sympathise with the people involved, especially if it is coming from one of the people
mentioned in the main first paragraph of the article. The people who put together the articles must
make sure that everything they include in the interviews is relevant and that they are not too long. I
think that the article that uses interviews and quotes better is probably Inches from tragedy,
because all the information given is relevant to and informative about what happened. I also think
this because the interviews featured are not too long and leave room in the article for other
information.
Having a picture in an article is a good idea, because it lets the reader see exactly who was
involved and let them see what effect the events of the article have had on them

This can be seen through the story, Death of a Moth by Virginia Woolf and Annie Dillard. Both writers share a similar topic, though their style of narration can compare and differ in many ways. A theme throughout the story is death. Both authors take on a different view of death. While death can be seen as a haunting experience or the end of a life. There are other interpretations that can be made on this one topic. Both authors have twists in their stories with different ideas, which aid to reveal their narration and expression regarding death. Something both authors did similarly discuss the setting. Dillard was very specific with the setting of the environment she is narrating from. She states, while warbler swung in the leaves overhead and bristle worms trailed their inches over the twiggy dirt at my feet; and I read every night by candlelight, while barred owls called in the forest and pale moths massed round my head in the clearing (Dillard) She goes in depth to construe and give her readers the real visualizing feeling that they are with her as she speaks. Similarly, Woolfe depicts her setting with detail as well. She states, Presumably it was mid day, and work in the fields had stopped. Stillness and quiet had replaced the previous animation. The birds had taken themselves off to feed in the brooks. The horses stood still. Yet the power was there, all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Josh s The Message I found Josh s presentation on The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to be very compelling. Rap music is the most popular genre of music amongst American adolescence, and especially amongst Latino and African American adolescence. Although an immensely popular genre, and one which I am a regular listener, I was completely unaware about the origins of this music genre. After hearing Josh s presentation, I feel more appropriately informed about this genre s history and the ways in which its founders and early promoters used this musical form as both an escape and a means of articulating their hardships. In his presentation, Josh provided a thorough history and explanation of the circumstances in which the song s writers lived,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chorus exposes how painfully difficult it was to maintain sanity for the individuals living in South Bronx at times, and each set of lyrics presents a new reason as to why the circumstances are bleak. The forced laugh at the end emphasizes an achieve happiness, or at the least maintain sanity. The rappers weren t blissful or happy about the circumstances they described, and the way in which the laugh is articulated in a choppy and forced nature makes that very clear. Ultimately, I really enjoyed Josh s presentation because he gave the class a thorough, insider perspective into life in South Bronx by elaborating on the history and explaining the meaning behind various lines in The ... • 5. Critique Of Mcdevitt s Book Report Question Two: A critique of McDevitt s Book McDevitt s book is a well written and useful publication for learners, people with interest or managers in the administration of their respective investigative unit. Fundamentally, there is plenty of useful information in the book. To begin with, the author highlights how efficacy can be increased amid the investigative officers and how resources can be used to make investigations better. These are very important points because they assist a lot of people in a number of ways. Chiefly, the management of resources is perhaps the single biggest hurdle in management of investigations. Generally, investigations require a lot of funds to proceed. On the same note, they involve travelling and a lot of field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certainly, this perspective is important in a situation where the number of investigative officers is limited. However, this is not entirely true in most situations. In reality, the number of investigative officers is usually sufficient to handle the crimes that are reported. Concerning the issues of time, it would be prudent of the author to only suggest that the arrival time of the investigators should be prompt to facilitate faster collection of evidence but not that the patrol officers should take it upon themselves to begin the investigations. The author repeats this point in a number of sections. Seemingly, the author has a certain bias towards extending favorable treatment towards the patrol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of Acid by Titration with Sodium Hydroxide Stephanie Thao Chemistry 1151 Laboratory Analysis of acid by titration with sodium hydroxide Ms. Hoang November 2012 Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate an example of how to determine the unknown molarity of hydrochloric acid by titration with a base (sodium hydroxide). Titration is a common laboratory method of quantitative chemical analysis that is used to determine the unknown concentration of an identified analyte (wekipedia). The first step will be measuring and combining water and acid (Hydrochloric acid). An indicator anthocyanin will be added to the solution to change the color to pink. During this experiment after adding enough sodium hydroxide to the indicator solution; the solution changed color to blue, an indication of the stoichiometric end point. All three trials showed the proper color change. This proved that the color change indicated that the pH level had changed in solution and the amount of base added is chemically equivalent to the acid in the flask. The formula M1xV1=M2xV2 was used to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid. The results from the trials showed that the concentration of hydrochloric acid was 0.2M. The concentration of the two acids should be relatively close in order to cancel each other out. It was complicated to compare the two concentrations since the given molarity of sodium hydroxide is in the one decimal place holder, whereas the calculated concentration for hydrochloric acid is in a two decimal place. From the lab it can be concluded that pH indicators can be an imprecise method to calculate the concentration of an unknown concentration. Critical Thinking Questions 1. • 9. Critical Analysis Of Vanity Fair Critical Analysis The novel Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray is a mystery story of the various kinds of vanity driven people in a city lead by social status. Many, if not all, main characters in one way or another commit a heinous deed in order to feel better about themselves. Their selfishness is almost always the driving force behind all of their motives. This novel perfectly captures Thackerays satirical writing. It pinpoints all the flaws within those that are vain, both low and high class, and often humors himself by inserting witty ways to solve each of the characters problems. Satirical writing is a genre for authors that want to call attention to important topics such as vanity, government, the environment, and much more. There is humor and wit intertwined with the sarcastic remarks of an author. Vanity Fair is one book that covers just how vain all classes can be shown through symbolism, tone, and setting. Thackeray uses the low points in his life as inspiration for his novels and short stories. They are heavily reflected as the themes, topics taught to teach readers and hopefully mold their minds and persuade them in some way. One way he displays these messages is through the symbolism in his writing. As a satirist and moralist, he exposes the incongruity that can be lost between romance and reality (McMaster). It is true that Vanity Fair is deserving of the subtitle A Novel without a Hero because of the unheroic characters selfishly acting for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael has a right to retain his position in the nursery room regardless of the issue with nappy changes for this one child. To allow for minimal disruption and any further consequences, the situation is to be kept confidential. This is a short term resolution. The situation should be monitored and there may be long term issues if the parents fail to form a relationship with Michael. Therefore, this may result in Michael requesting a change of room in the future (Ethical group discussion, 2017). The resolution was reached through exploring the steps involved in the ERC. As a group, (each group member representing a person in the dilemma) we examined eight steps in the ERC. Throughout each phase, the child s primary best interests were considered by all parties. As the director progressed through the ERC, it became clear that both the parents and Michael have legal rights that need to be addressed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. This is the opposite of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into the Nagumsett River he is baptized in it by because he becomes fully submerged in the river. This baptism was in impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of innocence, and Gene becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at different times, showing the differences between both baptisms. The first one occurred during the summer when Devon resembled the garden of Eden. But, the second one occurred during the winter, further stressing that this is a reverse baptism, and represents loss of innocence. In A Separate Peace baptism is one of the many biblical archetypes. • 16. The Importance Of Self Esteem Amy Sanborn Professor Matthew Mills BU 110 25 October 2016 The Importance of Self Esteem It is often said that if an individual wishes to succeed in life they must have confidence. That in order to handle difficult situations it is confidence that will see them through. But what if that s wrong? What if there was a lesser known, subtly more powerful force that would allow an individual to succeed and be resilient to those difficult situations? Often confused with confidence, it is self esteem that is a powerful mechanism affecting mental well being, resiliency, and physical health. However, before understanding how self esteem effects humans it is important to differentiate it from its oft confused cousin: confidence. In order to understand the importance of self esteem it is necessary to establish a basis. Both definitions that are hereby given were extracted from the Psychology Dictionary in order to maintain consistency. Therefore to begin, self confidence is the varying levels of trust we place in our skills, reasoning, and capacity. For example: David has high self confidence in his ability to complete the task at hand though he s never experienced the task before. The example illustrates that David doesn t need confidence in himself nor in his self image, but in tangible assets of skill, capacity, and reasoning. If David fails in being able to complete the task then he knows that his high self confidence was inaccurate and can adjust his trust regarding that task for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Majority of the nobles lived their lives in luxury and were rich beyond the common man s wildest dreams. The thought of the medieval knights often brings nobility in mind, hence the question whether knights had to emanate from the noble class. Exemplary works by Sir Thomas Malory (1408 1471) recount the marvelous adventures of chivalrous, heroic knights of super human ability. The knights, abiding by the chivalry s strict codes of honor and demeanor went on quests to fight and defeat monsters and giants, thereby winning favor with a lady. Chivalry simply means having the skills to handle a horse. This ability, especially in combat, was of utmost importance to a medieval knight. Subsequently, Beaumains swiftly defeats Sir Kay even though unarmed with neither a spear nor a shield. Beaumains there after give sout Sir Kay s symbol of knighthood (his horse) to his dwarf implying that the dwarf would have become a better knight than Sir Kay. This definition states the defendant is responsible towards the plaintiff, if a breach of recognized standard of duty is not adhered to and the plaintiff suffers an injury as a result. A liability may incur if the resulting injury could have been prevented or foreseen. The defendants and plaintiffs both have their opinions and views towards the negligence tort, and it will be looked into further detail in the Jack and Thea Holiday Tour case. In order to completely understand the liability in negligence, there must be reasonable foreseeability present which includes three main elements of negligence They are Duty of Care, Breach of Duty and Remoteness of Damage (pg436 437 (8.220) Terry and Giugni) In addition the plaintiff must also satisfy the four traditional elements of negligence in order to have a claim; (pg 431 (8.140) Terry and Giugni) Part A Duty of care In the tort of negligence it is important to recall the 1932 House of Lords case, Donoghue v Stevenson AC 562 (pg. 435 (8.200) Terry and Giugni). • 25. Finding The Right Words Of The Ancient Chinese... Finding the Right Words After a 40 year career in which the need to write has always featured prominently, I still find the prospect of committing pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, a daunting experience. Don t get me wrong, I don t dislike writing. On the contrary, I derive a great sense of satisfaction from completing any writing task or assignment. Indeed, a lifetime of writing leads me to believe that writing well and enjoying the experience, like most worthwhile endeavors, requires preparation, hard work, and an unyielding commitment and desire to succeed. Furthermore, I have come to realize that in the words of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. At the outset, I feel that every writing project is like a thousand mile journey, and I know I ll get there in the end if only I have the courage take that first, single step if only I can find the right words. My earliest recollection of writing is at around six or seven years old, meticulously copying longhand letters and words in my elementary school copybook. The perfectly formed characters, uniformly spaced at the top of each page, appealed to my sense of order encouraging me to replicate the cursive lettering as faithfully as I could on the printed lines below. By the time I reached high school, I had mastered the art of legible, almost calligraphic script. The mechanics were easy, creating interesting and articulate content, not so much. ... The bystander effect happens every day in our lives and dates all the way back to the Holocaust and even further back in history. The bystander effect theory is a psychological phenomenon were people do not help others in emergency situations when there are others present, the bigger the crowd the less likely chance of someone stepping in to help. People are just trying to live life and survive and if the situation is too out of control where we are talking about guns being involved, then that s where people would draw a line and not do anything to help. People start to fear that their own life becomes in danger if they try to intervene in something of that magnitude. I can completely understand why people would be more hesitant when it comes to helping others when they fear their own life can be taken from them. This type of fear is one of the main reason the Holocaust happened and people did very little to help the Jews. During the Holocaust there were mass killings involving huge crowds and a very massive witness group. The Germans were brain washed to think the Jews were horrible people and they blamed them for taking away their dignity as a country. There are reports of dozen of witness that stood by and did nothing to help. A photographer took pictures of a man, a Luthuanian, beating 30 40 men to death with a crow bar then watched as they sang their national anthem on top of the dead bodies. With a crowd so enormous and so many people with hate in their hearts it would be so hard for someone to intervene in that type of situation. I had tried to connect to the people I had chosen to observe, and that changed the end result of my investigation causing it to be impacted on a personal level. The topic I had chosen to observe was limited by the time frame and the individuals I had looked at. On this side is Ursula, an extremely quotable quasi feminist who makes a strong case for her side.[1] Ursula sums up the feminist argument by saying, Guys see the idealized sex goddess, how can women compete? First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked woman in a magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy and men s magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy objectifies women, leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft pornography leads to hard pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick Heibert in his article A hard line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing soft pornography inevitably leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further and contend that the viewing of violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of committing a violent sexual crime (Cramer 202). The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after. Considered to be better for the environment and for a person s health, organics are believed to be a better option when purchasing food, when in reality they are just as good compared to regular food. Even so, organics have more drawbacks rather than benefits. With organics high price, lack of nutritional value, and environmental upset, it is no wonder why a majority of the population chooses to purchase regular food over organics. While organics may be healthier compared to regular food, the high price of organics is impractical for members in the community. Money is a key factor for consumers when purchasing food and most people do not want to give in to the high price tag when there are other options for a better deal. A pound of beef for instance, costs $9.99 organically while a regular pound of beef only costs $6.49, according to a 2015 consumer report. Based on the lower price tag, people are more prone to buy the regular beef as they can gain a necessary source of protein yet sustain the budget they desire. . When purchasing food, prices need to be considered as the views of the buyers can be changed if a product is worth more than what they want to spend. • 38. Lord Of The Flies Ego Superego Analysis In every human being, a constant battle is occurring between two very diverse consciences. William Golding portrayed this battle through his novel, Lord of the Flies, and with Sigmund Freud s psychoanalysis theories of ID, Ego, and Superego. ID usually delineates the avarice and guile side of the soul. Superego, however, represents the euphonious and benign voice of the soul. The Ego is a balance of the two and is gullible to the forces of both voices. Golding uses these three forces to show that without the pureness of the conscience, human spiritis innately evil and corruptible. Thus, Golding uses Freud s ID, Ego, and Superego to demonstrate the overall theme of the flexibility of the human spirit towards evil through Jack s recklessness, Ralph s senseof balance, and Simon s cherubic attitude. The character of Jack symbolizes the ID side of the soul because of his recklessness through his obsession with hunting and fun on the island. • 41. Collaborative Group Experience Introduction Groups and teamwork are an essential aspect of everyday life. It is suggested that groups have the potential to outperform individuals (Mottola Utkus, 2009). There are several facets that impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are also important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models, and actions that can be taken to establish successful work. Experiential learning will be used to analyze a groupexperience that the author found to be meaningful. Additionally, team dynamic concepts and theories will aid in analyzing the experience. The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a subpar presentation. As the presentation was a significant portion of our final grade, it was imperative for the author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the presentation before it was a complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the requirements of the assignment were met, and the presentation was delivered in order to avoid failure for the assignment. The other members of the group that also took initiative to complete the assignment were motivated to achieve these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation were fueled by conflict and determined to create a negative experience because of refusal for agreement. The individuals removed themselves from the group and choose to work on aspects of the presentation alone. This impacted the group negatively because there was lack of communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan Bunashe and Lindsay Broder suggest that conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on creativity and productivity (Bunashe Broder, 2015). The actions of the individuals who refused to participate in the group obstructed the presentation flow, and resulted in a negative experience for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The House On Mango Street Chapter 2 Summary When I returned to the Petit Salon , the atmosphere was more collected. Dame Chaboix had convinced Henri de Valfort to accept to be the 4th hand , and they were now, playing bridge with SantГ©glise and Saturnin Valloix. The Baron was watching them with a detached interest. Holding a glass of cognac in his hand, he stood in front of the table, on the Dummy s side. When he saw me enter, he put down the glass on the nearby pedestal table which occupied a corner of the room, then, he looked at his watch (mine indicated 11:30 PM), and he came over to speak to me. Ah! Morsirisse! So! Did you see anything? Not a soul. Your father in law can relax. No one s marauding on the premises. Merci, Morsirisse, he said. What you need now is a good cognac to warm you up. They have already complained that I am monopolizing you. I acquiesced, but as I followed him, I still mulled over this incident which was adding its mystery to a situation already sufficiently complicated in itself. I could not help feeling guilty for merely suspecting my best and only friend. However, everything evaporated, when I realized that the Baronne de Valfort was smiling at me. Technology And Its Impact On The World War I For thousands of years from all corners of the world, mankind has dreamed of these larger than life frays fought between the most massive and powerful nations embodied the name given to them. Advancements and a flourishing in technology is due to the innovation of the airplane to be utilized on, or over the front lines of the the most devastating battles to ever scar the face of the earth. They were used mainly to scout enemy positions, and then report the whereabouts of the enemy to the army. However, these aircrafts started out as slow and proved as easy targets for the enemy and the advanced anti aircraft weapons, and there was a massive loss of life as a result of this (Wilkin 4). One monumental event that occurred during the Second World War, was when the British Royal Air Force conducted a bombing of Berlin, and thus Germany had fallen back multiple weeks in planning their highly effective and dangerous rocket programs (Bailey 133). The raid of the German capital city was a decisive event in World War II, and allowed the Allies to get the edge over the Axis powers. Although reconnaissance and bomber pilots were extremely important, fighter pilots had a more cataclysmic effect on the war. As almost all pilots grew tired of using pistols to shoot at enemy planes while having to fly, they wanted an easier and more effective way to both fly and take down an opposing plane. Then, on one day in 1915, the Germans captured the plane of French aviator Roland Garros, and since Garros had innovatively built a machine gun that fired in between the spinning of his propellers, the German army sent the plane to the Fokker plane factory and the design was copied. • 44. The Biological And Environmental Causes Of Alpine Ecosystems Introduction Alpine Ecosystems Alpine lands account for approximately 20% of the Earth s total terrestrial land mass and house almost 10% of the world s population (Ives and Messerli, 1999). Alpine ecosystems are categorized similarly to high latitudinal locations as extreme ecosystems . In these ecosystems, there are controls to the environmental variables that govern their hydrological and biological cycles. For example, they often experience extreme conditions of light, temperature, and precipitation that may restrict and limit vegetation growing conditions and the abundance of live animals. However, these limiting conditions have also established the ideal conditions for a wide distribution of snow and ice across mountains and plateaus (Xiao et al., 2002) and are characterized by rapid seasonal changes, which plays an important role in the regional climate and any available water resources (Goodison et al., 1999). The fourth assessment report published by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 4AR) found that global warming is unequivocal, and has been confirmed by a rise in average air and ocean temperatures, the widespread melting of snow and ice, and a rise in mean sea level. The IPCC 4AR also concluded that warming is expected to be greatest in the extreme environments of high northern latitudes and upper alpine basins. It is anticipated that snow cover will diminish and that heat waves and heavy precipitation events will become more frequent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Virgin Atlantic Airways, ten years after.INSEAD case study... 1 Executive summary Virgin is currently the third most recognized brand in Britain and it is commonly associated with the identity of its founder Richard Branson. Branson is not your typical corporate businessman but rather a risk taking entrepreneur that emphasizes the fun in every activity he is driving the Virgin group into. Virgin s best known operations are probably air travel (the Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Express airlines) and music stores (Virgin Megastores), but they are also involved in trains, finance, internet services, soft drinks, mobile phones, cars, wines, publishing, and bridal wear to name but a few. Although Virgin has successfully developed a differentiation strategy in each of these sectors, some of the group s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Virgin has such a diverse range of businesses and international activities, the company presents a challenging study in seeking to understand the overall Virgin strategy, critical success factors and why specific Virgin companies were launched. Also of interest are some of Virgin s rare failures and apparent present difficulties. The choice of Virgin as a target company presents additional challenges since it is not a publicly listed company, and consequently there is a limited amount of thorough facts and analysis available. The overall project objective is to gain an understanding of what Virgin s future strategic options might be and conclude with our considered final strategic recommendations. 3Company and industry background The Virgin group of companies have a very strong brand name in Britain and is, according to Virgin s website, also now becoming the first global brand name of the 21st Century . • 48. Observation On Observation You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different grades, 1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not? After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy teaching them what they need to know. 2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester? Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain. I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day, rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in elementary school the teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans so all the subjects relate to each other, which I would love to do. I don t have one subject I prefer over others, so I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will be looking at the techniques used in each article and their effectiveness. I will use this comparison to eventually decide which article is the more effective of the two. The two headlines from the articles are quite different. Inches from tragedy is a large, bold headline written in a way that makes you want to see what the headline is talking about, as it sounds serious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that both articles use emotive language very well, and that they are equally good at getting there point across through using language. Both of the articles feature one long, main interview and one shorter interview towards the end of the article. The interviews have been included in each case to give the reader an account of the events in the article from one of the people involved. This is a good idea as people who were actually involved in the events of the article will be able to give more information on what actually happened, and will probably know things that no one else does. Having interviews also makes the reader sympathise with the people involved, especially if it is coming from one of the people mentioned in the main first paragraph of the article. The people who put together the articles must make sure that everything they include in the interviews is relevant and that they are not too long. I think that the article that uses interviews and quotes better is probably Inches from tragedy, because all the information given is relevant to and informative about what happened. I also think this because the interviews featured are not too long and leave room in the article for other information. Having a picture in an article is a good idea, because it lets the reader see exactly who was involved and let them see what effect the events of the article have had on them ...
