Chanel Essay
Chanel S.A. is a French, inconspicuously held affiliation controlled by Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an
early business adornment of the couturiГЁre Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel S.A. is a high edge house that has some bent in high way and
orchestrated to–wear bits of garments, extravagance things and style extra things. In her immaturity, Gabrielle Chanel got the handle Coco from her
time as a chanteuse. As a style engineer,Coco Chanel reveled ladies' slant for sparkle in dress, with pullovers and suits, trousers and dresses, and gems
of direct design, that supplanted the liberal, over–organized, and constrictive pieces of attire and unsettle of 19th–century arrangement. The Chanel

The Purpose of Advertising Essay
The Purpose of Advertising
The purpose of advertising is to familiarise the public with a certain brand or product. Companies spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so
that when the public are searching for a product or service a certain brand is recognised and, as a result, their product or service is chosen.
Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by completing extensive market and physcological research. Members of the
public from a company's target group or audience are chosen to express their views about the advertisment before it is published or aired.
Media can include television, cinema and radio. This is the communications aspect of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is illustrated in the first advertisment, for Chanel No.5 perfume.
The classic, sophisticated design immediately sets the tone for the advert and for the type of audience it has been aimed at.
Chanel is an icon of the 21st century and its image needs to be preserved by attracting new customers.
The modern, yet timeless layout of the promotion emphasises on this, but the advert is traditional enough to appeal to older audiences. This shows that
although Chanel wish to attract a newer audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers loyal to the marque, hence the non–controversial
advertisment.
The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel wish to preserve their image. However, to appeal to successive
generations the visual treatment has recieved subtle changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern looking colour scheme.
The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast between the two main colours adds to the classic meets modern
feel that Chanel were aiming for.

I will present you my first article with Coco Chanel. She is a lady I admired. Let me tell you what made me admire her greatly. She was born
Saumur France on August 19, 1883 as Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. . Her mother passed away when Chanel was very young. Her father, a peddler,
placed her in the orphanage. She learned how to sew during her years there. Later, she became a singer, but briefly before opening her first clothes
store in 1910. Based on other historical gatherings, her name "Coco" came from the clubs she sang in. It might have been in her songs. Whatever may

Coco Chanel's Impact on Fashion "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with
ideas, the way we live, what is happening" (Coco Chanel). This quote is one of many famous quotes by Coco Chanel. You can tell by this quote that
Chanel loves fashion, but it means way more than just clothes. At a time when women's clothing didn't have sophistication and sexiness anymore Coco
Chanel brought in a whole new fashion with items like her "little black dress" and trademark suits.
Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (aka Coco Chanel) was born in Saumur, France in August of 1883 (Krick par 1). She was one of many fashion icons who

Her immediate impact it had on women was that women saw themselves in a completely new way and it boosted their self–image. The clothes just
began to make them feel better about themselves. The lasting impact Chanel had on women and fashion was that the women loved the way they
looked with the clothes being so comfortable. Coco Chanel became a huge success with her fashion line and beauty line. Today, Chanel is still
worn by people everywhere. There's also over 300 Chanel stores in the world (Heaney par 6). Now Coco Chanel's designs were taken over by Karl
Lagerfeld. "Following Chanel's death in 1971, several of her assistants designed the couture and ready–to–wear lines until Karl Lagerfeld (born 1938)
took over the haute couture design in 1983 and ready–to–wear in 1984." Krick, Jessa. Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel (1883–1971) and the House of Chanel

The intriguing but mysterious Gabrielle Chanel was born into a poorhouse in Paris August 19th 1883 and died January 10th 1971 in the famous House
of Chanel, "Rue Cambon". During these extravagant, changing and difficult years of war, fashion, depression and ultimately; love, she became the
figure who introduced simplicity into women's wardrobes, yet was far from simple herself. Chanel believed in designing couture that was for "freedom
and forgetting" (69), where women could travel by whatever means, yet still feel comfort and at home within their clothes. As a leader, she replaced
the whalebone corsets and overly tacky hats with loose trousers, Breton tops and sailor blouses that all young and old females could "live in, breath in,

From my reading I have ascertained that there is almost a definite line in fashion. A before Chanel and an after Chanel. With so many revolutionary
breakthroughs this designer drew a definite line in the sand with her work. Common fashion staples in the twenty–first century were a direct result of
Chanel. Such as the well–known "Little Black Dress" more commonly nicknamed the LBD. According to Jessa Krick who wrote a short article for the
Met Museum said the following, "In 1926, American Vogue likenedChanel's "little black dress" to the Ford, alluding to its almost universal popularity
as a fashion basic." (2004) The significance of relating the LBD to Ford is the fact that everyone had a Ford. The popularity came from the notion
that the dress was versatile enough to be either a day or evening dress. It was also somewhat innovating due to the color. Before Chanel the color black
had been harsh and only worn for mourning purposes. Proving another time when Chanel broke the rules and changed the world. (Dunne, E., 2013;
Krick, J., 2004)

Even though my argument is to show how she is perhaps the most influential designer of the twentieth and twenty–first century, I am not discounting
the contribution of other designers. In fact, I believe that there are compelling arguments out there for designers such as, Dolce and Gabbana, Tom
Ford (Gucci), Hubert de Givenchy, and Christian Dior to name a few. All of these designers have been in the fashion game for decades and have
made their own accomplishments. I would not want to disregard any of their contributions. Chanel has made a significant impact for women and my

Coco Chanel"Fashion has become a joke. The designers have forgotten that there are women inside the dresses. Most women dress for men and want
to be admired. But they must also be able to move, to get in a car without bursting at their seams! Clothes must have a natural shape." Coco Chanel.

One major challenge was that when she first began her fashion, she had no money and she did not know anyone that could give her ties to the more
fashion forward world. Chanel had to work her way up from basically nothing. As she started to prosper, she got taken advantage of by male
investors. They took 90% of the profits from her most famous fragrance, Chanel No. 5 (Brittanica). Chanel being a woman and a new and upcoming
designer had a lot of trouble fighting that contract. She knew that the male investors were taking advantage of her and she tried to change that, no one
sought out to help her win the multiple legal fights she had against them. Then, when her business was thriving and being very successful, she had to
close down her doors due to the outbreak of World War II (Krick). She then became discredited by people of France because she became the mistress
of Nazi officer, Gunther von Dincklage (Biography.com). Many people thought that was a betrayal. They viewed Chanel like the enemy from that point

Establishment and recognition: 1909 through 1920s
In 1909, Gabrielle Chanel opened a shop on the ground floor of Г‰tienne Balsan's apartment in Paris–the beginnings of what would later become one
of the greatest fashion empires in the world.[1] The Balsan home was a meeting place of the hunting elite of France and the gentlemen brought their
fashionable mistresses along, giving Coco the opportunity to sell the women decorated hats. During this time, Coco Chanel struck up a relationship with
Arthur 'Boy' Capel, a member of the Balsan men's group.
He saw a businesswoman in Coco and helped her acquire her location at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris by 1910.[1] There was already a couture shop in the

[edit]Chanel and Nazi affiliation: 1930s through 1950s
Evening couture dresses from Chanel evolved into an elongated feminine style.[1] Summer dresses had contrasting scintillating touches (e.g.
rhinestone straps and silver eyelets).[1] Coco designed a line for petite women in 1937.[1] Throughout the 1930s, Elsa Schiaparelli was competing
more strongly with the House of Chanel, but this was only a short term rivalry. Chanel premiered an exhibition of jewelry in 1932 dedicated to the
diamond. Several of the pieces, including the "Comet" and "Fountain" necklaces were re–introduced by Chanel in 1993. When World War II began in
1939, Coco Chanel retired and moved into the HГґtel Ritz Paris with her new beau, Nazi officer Hans Gunther von Dincklage.[1][3][5] Only her
parfums and accessories were sold in her existing boutiques.
When France fell under the control of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany in 1940, the Nazis made the opulent and exclusive Hotel Meurice (Le Meurice),

After the analysis of the signs within the commercials it should be mentioned that also the advertisement itself has a signifying function as it is
regarded as the index that points toward a product. This shows that signs in language do have a certain function, when it comes to the presentation of
language and without them a commercial would probably be unsuccessful.
Representation
Not only signs do play an important role when it comes to advertising but also the way of representation including all the surroundings are essential to
produce an advertisement that attracts the addressee. These surroundings usually involve the so called modes of communication which can be divided
according to TV commercials into pictures, language and music. These modes are used to create the meaning of communication and their interplay is
necessary to influence the outcome of the advertisement. (cf. Cook 2001:42)
1 How music is used to influence the addressee
Especially music seems to be an essential attribute of TV commercials as it is used to involve the addressee into the situation and also emphasizes the
most significant parts of an advertisement. It allows the watcher to develop the mood that is essential in order to be influenced by it. "Like language,
music has discrete units (notes) which can be combined in different ways along a time–line (melody)."(Cook. The

To make things worse, the perfume market is also suffering from slower growth than some other segments of the beauty industry. L'Oreal's fragrance

The British Fashion Council (2014) indicates that the fashion industry's aggregate contribution to the UK economy has increased to over forty six
billion pounds since the year 2009. This reflects a percentage increase of 23%. The fashion industry makes remarkable contribution to the economy by
indirectly supporting the chain industries and inducing the spending of its workers' wage income. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, agrees in
entirety with the British Fashion Council by indicating that these figures prove the magnificent contribution that the fashion industry makes to the UK
economy. The fashion brand industry's development is attributed to the UK's creative designers that give them a competitive advantage over the other
designers across the world. Its value rises day by day as it invests in a variety of colleges to nurture the talents of its designers and hence contributing to
the popularity of the UK's fashion brand industry.

Gabrielle Chanel, other wise known as famous fashion designer Coco Chanel, was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France (biography.com). The
baby girl was born to parents Albert Chanel and Jeanne Devolle, a young unwed couple that lived in great poverty. Her parents had seven children
giving them three daughters Gabrielle Chanel, Antoinette Chanel, Julia Chanel, and four sons Lucien Chanel, Augustin Chanel, Pierre Chanel, and

father who worked as a peddler. (Time) Her father, unable to successfully care for his children, made the tough decision to release the children from
his care. The boys of the house were sent to a farm where they spent their childhood as laborers. The girls, including Coco Chanel, were all sent to an
orphanage where they would be raised by Catholic nuns. The nuns raised her in a extremely strict manner but failed to ever break her tough
demeanor. The nuns that raised Coco Chanel from late childhood wanted to teach her a skill she could use throughout her life: sewing. In fact, every
source of education Chanel had came from what she was taught in her years at the orphanage. Chanel would take the skills she learned, combine them
with the hardships she faced, and grow a fashion empire bigger than she could've ever dreamed of.

had to work for success, coming up from impoverishment, not even bringing a family with her out of it. She was to be the name on the company, the
one that will be admired and noted for the work she did and the obstacles she overcame. Coco Chanel's hardships not only shaped her future and
designs, but they revolutionized fashion and created an iconic image and company that will not be forgotten.

She found the help "[in 1992,] . . . from Pierre Wertheimer to market [the] fragrance" (IDCH). She made an agreement with the Wertheimers, selling

Though the Wertheimer family would control the Chanel brand finances, the drive and vision came from Coco (International . . . 2). In 1922,
Theophile Bader, French department store chain Galaries Lafayette founder, introduced Coco to Ernst Wertheimer's son, Pierre (International . . . 2).
In 1921, the family and Coco were introduced through desperation of a business partner as she "sought financial help, [and] . . . Pierre Wertheimer

but "the personal relationship between Coco Chanel and Pierre Wertheimer deteriorated" (International . . . 2). Coco Chanel felt the exploitation from
the family that would eventually lead her to hiring an attorney to renegotiate agreements, as she felt that she had unwittingly signed away the rights to

Consumer And Consumer Self Identity
1.0Introduction
Consumer researchers have recognized that people consume in ways that are consistent with their sense of self (Sirgy, 1982). Consumption is not only
a tool to obtain the value of goods and display social status, but also is closely related to self–identity. In the consumer culture, customers no longer just
shop because of their needs. The desire of individual's self–development and self–taught continue to stimulate the consumption. People change
themselves as much as possible by buying new goods. In answer to the problem "what kind of person he is", people not only judge other people
according to a virtue or quality of the individual, but tend to be based on personal lifestyle or behavior consistent with specific groups. ... Show more

It is important for marketers to understand the concept and dynamics of self, the meaning of goods then they could use this link to advert better (Elliott
& Wattanasuwan, 1998).
3.0 The importance of advertising
In the increasingly competitive market, people pay more attention to the development of brand image. Meenaghan (1995) stated that advertising is
considered to be an important marketing tool. It informs consumers of the product information and it is a popular and effective way to communicate
with their customers. Companies could attract target groups through advertising. Advertising are largely based on defining the desires and dreams of
the consumers so it do not attempt to manipulate consumers, but rather the symbolic meanings which are attached to the products. When a company
launches advertising, its goal is to promote consumption and increase market sales. Abideen and Saleem (2011) stated that advertising promotes
product awareness in the minds of all the potential and target consumers and as such playing a huge role in influencing the consumer purchasing
decision. Therefore, many companies choose to make the advertising to attract the customers. These companies also use consumer's self–identity
concept to advert and let the customers know the products could satisfy their self–identity. There are three different advertisements below.

Legend. Coco Chanel once declared, "Legend is the consecration of celebrity," and no other fashion designer in history has exceeded either Chanel's
celebrity or her legend. She was a fiercely independent lover of dukes, industrialists, and artists; a confidante of many of the creative geniuses of her
day–among them, writer Jean Cocteau, painter Pablo Picasso, ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev, and composer Igor Stravinsky; and a self–created

Connections. Chanel's influence was in part the result of the personal and social contacts she made in postwar Europe. In 1917 she became a
protГ©gГ©e of the wealthy, beautiful Misia Edwards–later Misia Sert–who introduced her to the circle of avant–garde writers and artists with whom
Edwards associated. During the 1920s Chanel herself hosted parties for these intellectuals as well as for the wealthiest and best–known members of
European and American society. In 1924 she designed the costumes for Diaghilev's ballet Train Bleu, for which Cocteau had written the story and
Picasso had designed sets. During the 1920s and early 1930s Chanel also formed intense but generally brief liaisons with fascinating men: Russian
Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, who had participated in the assassination of the mad Russian monk Rasputin; Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor, Duke of
Westminster, among the wealthiest men in England; brooding French poet Pierre Revedy; and French artist Paul Iribe. Each of these men seems to

Coco Chanel: Most influential women's fashion designer The designs created by Coco Chanel have had the greatest impact on women's fashion.
Her designs are classic, timeless, and still very popular today. All of her accomplishments were because of her hard work, dedication, and being her

designing men's–wear for women was because she knew that the clothes for women back then were very uncomfortable, so she decided to change

How Did Coco Chanel Change The 1920s
Have you ever wanted to know what was in style in the 1920s? Would you want to be a fashion designer that has a brand that is still popular today?
Well Coco Chanel was a fashion designer and icon during the 1920s. Chanel changed the way women dressed by using new techniques, materials, and
designs. The 1920s is a decade that is known as the "Roaring 20s" because of the new ways of dressing and dancing. A popular symbol was a
"Flapper who is a young women with short bobbed hair and short skirts" (History.comstaff). These young women were not classy and generally would
drink and smoke. Women did not have many rights until the 1920s, "The 19th Amendment was added Constitution guaranteed women the right to
vote" (History.comstaff). This is very important because it is the first time in American history that women could vote. Music and dancing became
popular, "Jazz bands played at dance halls" (History.comstaff). This shows that people enjoyed singing and dancing, but always loved to watch it too.
The 1920s was a decade where women got new rights and fashion also become a big deal.

A Masterpiece Of Olfactory Art
Chanel No. 5: a masterpiece of olfactory art
It has been over a century since Mademoiselle Chanel, determined to reform the concept of femininity as much in style as in the essence, commissioned
at the chemist Ernest Beaux what will become the symbol of the international perfumery. Chanel No. 5 is unquestionably the most legendary ever made
fragrance, described as an opera of olfactory art. Independent, unconventional, and provocative Coco Chanel transformed her unfamiliar name in an
obligatory reference point for fashion design of the twentieth. Icon of female strength, she translates the complexity and elegance that characterize the
woman, with the creation of what would become the scent par excellence. Her way of conceiving the perfume is peculiar. When asked where to put the
perfume she replies: " A woman should wear a fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed" (A Woman). Coco also launches what turned out according
to the instructions of the designer had to embody a concept of femininity timeless, unique and fascinating. The avant–garde idea of Chanel breaks every
scheme imagining her fragrance for a modern and independent woman, far from the stereotype that envisages she should perfume of roses. Hence,
Chanel No. 5 is the first perfume that rejects the convention and symbolizes the technological and cultural innovation, furthermore, the women 's
empowerment.

To what extent did Coco Chanel change the way in woman's society?
Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was one of the most influential fashion designers of the twentieth century. She was the founder and creator of the House of
Chanel and is famous for creating designs such as the Chanel suit, the "little black dress" and famous perfume Chanel No. 5. The clothes and perfumes
Coco created changed the way woman looked and the way they looked at themselves, turning ordinary men's fabrics, into comfortable and affordable
clothing for all women to wear.
Coming from a life of poverty and having been raised by Nuns, who taught her how to sew; Coco set out to make women's clothing comfortable and
affordable. Her designs were plain and elegant, which were inspired from men's materials such as jersey because of its low price. This looser and
more comfortable fabric freed women from the corsets and helped revolutionise fashion entirely. Coco was bold and expressed her modern way of

perfume was first created in 1920, where Coco and her master perfumer Ernest Beaux decided to make a fragrance with modern advances. Coco
believed that "A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future" resulting in aspiring women to buy clothing and perfumes for themselves and not
feeling any guilt for spending just a bit more money than normal. Chanel No.5 went against all other fragrances at the time including flowery scents,
and was instead made up of 80 ingredients which had no dominant scent. Coco would pack the fragrance in a black box when selling to give the buyer

Why Is Coco Chanel Rebel?
A rebel is a person who resists against the political system, authority, control or tradition and challenges them. Coco Chanel, was a famous French
fashion designer and the founder of international fashion brand Chanel. Coco Chanel was a rebel of the 20th century as she did not follow the fashion
norms during the time in her designs. From the 1920s to the 1950s, women used to wear corseted silhouettes that were fancy and excessive. However,
Coco Chanel designed clothing for women that were more practical, comfortable and elegant. She daringly rebelled against many fashion restrictions
for women during her time. The reason why Coco Chanel stood out among many fashion designers is that she designed clothes for women that
represented clothing reserved for men in the twenties to the fifties. Even though her designs and style had dated at least fifty years back, they are still
accepted by the modern society, proving that her works are timeless. Most importantly, she inspires women to dress for themselves.

Marketing Strategy Of Chanel
INTRODUCTION
Gabriell (Coco) Chanel founded her company in 1913 in Paris, France. The main profile of the company at the beginnings was fashion design by
Chanel herself from 1910 to 1971. She was a real innovator on the market. After her death Karl Lagerfeld became his successor, currently he is the
mastermind behind the world–famous, top–selling luxury brand. Chanel soon expanded the product range and started to design luxury hats, clothes,
fragrances, accessories and cosmetics. The ideology behind the brand is elegancy, beauty and self–respect of women; Chanel has a parallelism with
personal identity embedded into luxury. This is illustrated by the current slogan of NЛљ5 Fragrance "A woman. A Destiny. A Parfume." (Chanel,
2014). The Chanel Fragrance called NЛљ5 is an ultimate success since the very beginning it was introduced in the market as a symbol of femininity in
the early 1920's. Almost a hundred years later Chanel's NЛљ5 fragrance of the same composition is still top–seller even though the number of
concurrent companies or products has increased significantly. Some research says that a bottle is sold every half a minute (Vogue, 2014).

Coco Chanel: Life and Times Born into dire poverty and aged 11 when her mother passed on, Coco Chanel has come to be recognized by some as
the epitome of success in the fashion industry. Indeed, she has such a huge following of admirers that in some instances, fans have made
pilgrimages to one of her preserved apartments in Paris. As Tracy, a professed "timeless fan" of Chanel notes, "Chanel's fashion spirit will forever

the world's most influential designers of all time, Chanel's earlier life was far from glamorous. Coco Chanel was born sometimes in the year 1883
though she later disputed the same as her birth date (replacing it with 1893). Chanel's mother passed on when she was aged 6 years old leaving the

Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
Have you ever taken a step back and looked
How Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
By Sienna Hollis at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900's to
look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of
how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still
on sale even after her death in 1971.
One of her original designs in the early 1920's was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its striking
silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with
Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul
Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly asking her, "What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle?" The quick–witted designer
responded, "For you, dear Monsieur." TouchГ©!
One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914,
many women who took worked in manual roles began to wear trousers in the workplace. Coco Chanel loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing

The Making of Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel was born on the 19th of August in 1883 in Sammur, France her parents giving her the name Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. When Coco
was around 12 her mother passed away this provoked her father to abandoned her and her 5 siblings, she and her sisters were sent to a convent for
abandoned girls and her brothers were sent to work. The time she spent in the convent was a dark time therefor she didn't like to speak of but she
reflected in some of her pieces as she used the tones and shapes from walking along the corridor. Once she finally became of age and left the convent
she became a seamstress beginning her life into fashion but she also became a cabaret singer where she was given the name Coco.
A few years later in 1909 she opened a millinery shop at 160 Boulevard Malesherbes where she designed and sold hats. These hats were simple yet
elegant, a change from the heavily decorated hats of the time. During this time she supposedly began her affair with Boy Chapel. He introduced her to
the world of wealth, paying for the first shops she opened and greatly influencing her fashion sense. They're affair was on and off but lasted till his
death in 1919, the mourning of his death helped influence Chanel No.5. The sorrow she felt from his death inspired her designing.
Her fashion was like no other, she used blacks and greys which was only thought of to wear to occasions like funerals but she turned this stereotype
around and created the little black dress. Over the years other

Corset In The 1900's
Coco Chanel's career blossomed amidst political and social change. After World War I ended in 1918, many western states including the United States
of America were fighting a new battle. Women's suffrage and equality in the work force were gaining steam. Liberation was needed in more than one
way. Women's suffrage in 1920 was only the beginning.Chanel started a revolution of her own. In Tejvan Pettinger's biography on Coco Chanel, he
quotes the designer saying, "Most women dress for men and want to be admired. But they must also be able to move, to get into a car without bursting
their seams!" (2009). Up until World War I women wore long dresses and skirts with a constricting corset. The doing away with the corset is one of the
many things that has been attributed to the influence of Coco Chanel.
The corset is a woman's tightly fitting undergarment extending from below the chest to the hips, worn to shape the figure. Generally what is
thought of at the mention of corsets is a tiny waist and the restricted ability to breathe for the wearer. According to an essay published by the
University of Virginia, "Too Close for Comfort: 500 Years of Corsets" (1998) as the name suggests up to the early 1900s corsets had been worn in
western society for close to 500 years. Early corsets were not harmful to women and hid the natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Chanel Change In The 1920s
During the 1920s the art world experienced a lot of change. The art world began to display its new flawless works in colorful expressionism. Haute
couture, French for high fashion, was no exception to these newly made changes. Coco Chanel born as Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was an artist of
clothing and of beauty. Chanel's early life was not as pleasing as she made it known to be. Chanel lied about her childhood experiences in order to
avoid social prejudice that accompanied the situations in her upbringing.
Chanel was introduced into the world of art in 1908 after moving in with her lover
Etienne Balsan. It was in his home that she began designing hats, which would then lead to her initial success in the world of fashion. Chanel moved

Chanel gained popularity from some of her revolutionizing ideas. Just as the rest of the art world, haute couture also experienced a drastic change
during the 1920s. Chanel's fame began with her refashioning of an old jersey. Chanel herself said "My fortune is built on that old jersey that I'd put
on because it was cold in Deauville," (Chanel). Chanel's fame came from one simple idea and has blossomed to her world wide success.

Chanel correlates with the world of art in her time as she began introducing new concepts to the world of fashion just as impressionist movements
began around her time of fame. Chanel introduced many unheard of concepts which also attributed to her fame. Her introduction of the color black
to the world of fashion is the reason we have the phrase "little black dress". Chanel took something that was seemingly exclusive to funerary
occasions and brought it straight into the world of high fashion. Chanel herself said "Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have
said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony" (Chanel). Chanel exuded her opinion in many of her flawless
gowns designed

  • 1. Chanel Essay Chanel S.A. is a French, inconspicuously held affiliation controlled by Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an early business adornment of the couturiГЁre Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel S.A. is a high edge house that has some bent in high way and orchestrated to–wear bits of garments, extravagance things and style extra things. In her immaturity, Gabrielle Chanel got the handle Coco from her time as a chanteuse. As a style engineer,Coco Chanel reveled ladies' slant for sparkle in dress, with pullovers and suits, trousers and dresses, and gems of direct design, that supplanted the liberal, over–organized, and constrictive pieces of attire and unsettle of 19th–century arrangement. • 2. The Purpose of Advertising Essay The Purpose of Advertising The purpose of advertising is to familiarise the public with a certain brand or product. Companies spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so that when the public are searching for a product or service a certain brand is recognised and, as a result, their product or service is chosen. Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by completing extensive market and physcological research. Members of the public from a company's target group or audience are chosen to express their views about the advertisment before it is published or aired. This shows that although Chanel wish to attract a newer audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers loyal to the marque, hence the non–controversial advertisment. The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel wish to preserve their image. However, to appeal to successive generations the visual treatment has recieved subtle changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern looking colour scheme. The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast between the two main colours adds to the classic meets modern feel that Chanel were aiming for. Chanel is a name dating back to the 1930's. Over the years, it has been associated with the world of fashion, style and elegent living throughout the world.

She was born Saumur France on August 19, 1883 as Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. . Her mother passed away when Chanel was very young. Her father, a peddler, placed her in the orphanage. She learned how to sew during her years there. Later, she became a singer, but briefly before opening her first clothes store in 1910. Based on other historical gatherings, her name "Coco" came from the clubs she sang in. It might have been in her songs. Whatever may be, her name is history. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening" (Coco Chanel). This quote is one of many famous quotes by Coco Chanel. You can tell by this quote that Chanel loves fashion, but it means way more than just clothes. At a time when women's clothing didn't have sophistication and sexiness anymore Coco Chanel brought in a whole new fashion with items like her "little black dress" and trademark suits. Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (aka Coco Chanel) was born in Saumur, France in August of 1883 (Krick par 1). She was one of many fashion icons who made an impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her immediate impact it had on women was that women saw themselves in a completely new way and it boosted their self–image. The clothes just began to make them feel better about themselves. Coco Chanel became a huge success with her fashion line and beauty line. Today, Chanel is still worn by people everywhere. There's also over 300 Chanel stores in the world (Heaney par 6). Now Coco Chanel's designs were taken over by Karl Lagerfeld. "Following Chanel's death in 1971, several of her assistants designed the couture and ready–to–wear lines until Karl Lagerfeld (born 1938) took over the haute couture design in 1983 and ready–to–wear in 1984." Gabrielle Chanel Research Paper The intriguing but mysterious Gabrielle Chanel was born into a poorhouse in Paris August 19th 1883 and died January 10th 1971 in the famous House of Chanel, "Rue Cambon". During these extravagant, changing and difficult years of war, fashion, depression and ultimately; love, she became the figure who introduced simplicity into women's wardrobes, yet was far from simple herself. Chanel believed in designing couture that was for "freedom and forgetting" (69), where women could travel by whatever means, yet still feel comfort and at home within their clothes. As a leader, she replaced the whalebone corsets and overly tacky hats with loose trousers, Breton tops and sailor blouses that all young and old females could "live in, breath in, feel comfortable ... • 7. Coco Chanel Research Paper From my reading I have ascertained that there is almost a definite line in fashion. A before Chanel and an after Chanel. With so many revolutionary breakthroughs this designer drew a definite line in the sand with her work. Common fashion staples in the twenty–first century were a direct result of Chanel. Such as the well–known "Little Black Dress" more commonly nicknamed the LBD. According to Jessa Krick who wrote a short article for the Met Museum said the following, "In 1926, American Vogue likenedChanel's "little black dress" to the Ford, alluding to its almost universal popularity as a fashion basic." (2004) The significance of relating the LBD to Ford is the fact that everyone had a Ford. The popularity came from the notion that the dress was versatile enough to be either a day or evening dress. It was also somewhat innovating due to the color. Before Chanel the color black had been harsh and only worn for mourning purposes. Proving another time when Chanel broke the rules and changed the world. (Dunne, E., 2013; Krick, J., 2004) In a Time cover story done about the most influential designer,Coco Chanel, a brief history was given about the designer. She made her name first in the 1920's and 1930s, then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though my argument is to show how she is perhaps the most influential designer of the twentieth and twenty–first century, I am not discounting the contribution of other designers. In fact, I believe that there are compelling arguments out there for designers such as, Dolce and Gabbana, Tom Ford (Gucci), Hubert de Givenchy, and Christian Dior to name a few.
