The Theme Of Unconditional Love In The Metamorphosis, By...
Is there such thing as "unconditional love" where love will always be apparent despite how difficult
the situation gets? In the novella, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the protagonist unexpectedly
and suddenly transforms into an insect. Through this transformation, Gregor Samsa, the protagonist,
experiences a major change and finds himself struggling to make sense of the situation he is in while
also trying to fit in with the rest of his family. Discovering Gregor's new form, each of his family
members immediately becomes disgusted. As the story progresses, the idea of family loyalty is
tested as Gregor's family begins to gradually build upon their hatred towards Gregor and accuse him
of causing them hardships.With the family failing to recognize Gregor's past efforts, the idea of how
love never lasts is hinted at. Through the use of symbolism, irony, and metaphors, Kafka
demonstrates how unconditional love does not exist, even in family relationships.
Kafka uses symbolism on many occasions throughout the novella to convey Gregor's sentiments and
reflect on his current situation. The bug, perhaps the most important symbol in the whole novella,
symbolizes Gregor Samsa and his life. "That boy has nothing on his mind but the business... he's
been back in the city for eight days now, but every night he's been home," (10). This quote directly
shows how Gregor has been occupied with work ever since growing up and has never been able to
do anything unrelated to work. Similar to bees or ants, Gregor has led the same exact life, which
mainly consisted of working in order to provide for his family. In addition to the bug, the furniture
in Gregor's room is symbolic in the way that it signifies his humanity. "Had he really wanted to have
his warm room, comfortable fitted with furniture...he would be able to crawl around unhampered in
all directions but at the cost of simultaneously, rapidly, and totally forgetting his human past," (33).
By removing his furniture, Gregor's mother and sister are unknowingly and slowly taking away his
humanity, which is not what he wants. Furthermore, this confirms the undesirable fact that Gregor is
gradually losing his humanity and that his family has become inconsiderate, especially of

My idea was to do a handbook based on the theme of Love. I used Sonya and Dunya as the subjects
in my handbook to demonstrate this theme. Sonya and Dunya both experience love in different ways

All parents have a different opinion on how to raise children depending on their personalities. They
have different views on what is believed right or wrong. These views can shape the qualities they
have whether they are good or bad. My parents love me and care for me a lot, which causes one of
their best and worst qualities.

The helplessness of not knowing that there is something wrong. The feeling of guilt because you
didn't realize any change in behavior to represent that something was wrong. "In fact, in order to
prove itself as good dog as defined by its human caretakers, the dog must do no less than
conclusively demonstrate its loyalty" (Karla Armbuster, 2002). This is displayed by how even
though she is dying; she still drags herself to the newspaper so she won't get in trouble by her owner

Beetles song. Which, Sam was infatuated with the Beetles. He believed that the songs and the
content within the lyrics taught life–lessons. Sam believed that really, all a person did need is 'love'.
Sam has the intellect of a 7–year old child. His child, Lucy is an intelligent young girl who wishes to

I do not think I had much of a reaction to what I saw. I turned away, feeling a quiet wave of joy and

Tjerron showed me unconditional love seven days a week; 24 hours a day. He made sure I knew he
loved me every day. Tjerron never let a day pass without saying those three words I Love You. He
gave me constant affection emotionally and physically. He made the greatest effort to spend his
extra time with me every day, and provide the love needed in a relationship. He offered his all and
100% into our relationship. I never knew anyone could love me, or that I would ever feel the love he
gave. I come with a lot of imperfections and he loved me nevertheless. He never judged me, nor
turned his back on me. When I would feel down he would always find ways to bring me up from a
low place. I love food so he would take me to my favorite food place Chick–fil–a. Or he would plan

Tjerron is a true image of perfection in my eyes. He isn't lazy like plenty of the current generation of
men. He is a very hard worker. Even when he works a full–time job. He still finds other side jobs to
do in his time away from work. He has a lawn service business that he does when not working is 9–
5 job. He gets continuous promotions at work because of his dedication. He always goes above and
beyond to excel at anything he does. Tjerron is a very family oriented man. Which is one reason I
love him so much. I also love that it's a great quality for a husband to have, which I hope in the
future he will be just that. He has his mother and three sisters that are very dear to his heart. He
cherishes them and treats them like queens, along with his lovely grandmother. My mother has been
