Student Christmas concert
For the Christmasconcertwe had to rotate round differentrolesforawhole dayof the production.
The rolesthat I had to doincluded:
 Lighting
 Sound
 Tabs
 ASM
 Followspotting
For the firstshowI startedwiththe role of soundforthe firsthalf of the concert.DuringthisI had to
make sure that microphonesthatneededtobe usedwere onandloudenoughforthe audience to
hearthe comparesor singers. Ialsoneededtomake sure that musicfordancerswas workingby
usingtheirmobilesconnectedtoanaux cord or usinga CD player,andagainmakingsure thismusic
was loudenough.
For the secondhalf of that showI had to move fromthe box to backstage and do the tabs.This
involvesopeningandclosing the curtainsforthe comparesand acts.While doingthisIhad to make
sure I was concentratingonthe showand beingquicktodo thisjobfast andon time.
For the secondshowI wasASM forthe whole show.Thisinvolvesmoving propsonandoff stage
whenneededornot.DuringthisjobI againhad to be quickand readyso that itruns smoothlyand
all acts have what theyneedandthere isn’tpropsinthe way.I alsohad to work indarkerconditions
due to the backstage needingtobe dark sothe audience cannotsee ussoI had to rememberhealth
and safetyaspectsandmakingsure myself andothercollegeshelpingweresafe too.
For the last show,Istartedthe firsthalf by follow spotting.Thisjobinvolveskeepingaspotlighton
the comparesand singerssothat theyare seenbythe audience clearly.Withthisjob,the lightgets
veryhot soI had to wearglovestomove the lightas thisis a healthandsafetyprecaution.
For the secondhalf of the lastshow,I wasback inthe box doingthe role of lighting.All the lighting
had alreadybeenprogrammedsoIhad to make sure that Fresnel’s,floodsetc.were all turnedonat
the right time of the concertand makingsure theylookgoodduringthe acts. For solosingerswe just
usednormal spotlightsandafollowspotbutduringdance and bandacts we usedmore interesting,
colouredlightingonthe stage sothat itmakesit more excitingforthe audience.
