A few months ago, on Twitter, a 'parody' account under the name of @MeninistTweet began
mocking feminists by tweeting about 'men's rights'. This account quickly evolved into what many
believed was a legitimate movement in fighting for men's rights. Something that began as 'obviously
sarcasm' (as stated in their bio) has spiralled into an absurd number of people believing that men are
being oppressed by women, and that feminists, who are vulgarly called 'feminazis,' are evil, man–
hating cretins wishing to brutally sacrifice all men to the virgin goddesses and create a 'paradise' of

Would a list of the thousands of magazines, music videos, movies, clothing brands, TV shows and
'health' brands that promote an unrealistic and (if you are not Kim Kardashian) entirely unobtainable
ideal of what a woman's body should look like prove how much more women's bodies are
sexualised?
Of course, being male does have its difficulties. To ensure male supremacy, human societies have
formulated a control mechanism in which any man who is in touch with his feelings is written off as
being 'girly', 'sissy', or 'gay'. This name calling, however, is not an instance of women oppressing
men; but a social distortion imposed on both genders. Thus, one should ask why these words are
still used as insults. One's emotional characteristics do not define one's sexuality, but more
importantly, one's gender and sexuality should never be subjected to ridicule. It is not algebra; it is
life, and though algebra can be incredibly confusing at times, the complexity of humanity cannot be
organised neatly into a character–defining algorithm.
Not only does meninism spread incorrect information about the equal rights movement of feminism,
it takes the attention away from the real problems that face women all around the world. In a factual
comparison between men and woman, the advantage in almost every part of life is on men's side.

In recent discussions of equal rights, a controversial issue is whether it means the equal treatment
between women or men or equity. On one hand, according to the Equal Rights Amendment article
found in Issues by John R, Vile most Equal Rights Amendments also known as ERA propose three
parts to it. Section one which states "equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged
by the US or any state on account of sex". Section two which instructs "gives congress enforcement
power and finally section three which calls for a transitional period of two years after its ratification.

However, there are approximately 2.1 million Americans held in prisons and local jails
(infographic). According to Darryl Paulson a professor of government states that "3.9 million
Americans (1 in 50) can't vote". At least 13 states ban ex–felons from voting. States have such long
processes for prisoners to obtain their right to vote again. For example, in Florida, according to
Darryl, felons must wait seven years after serving their sentences before seeking restoration of their
voting rights. It currently takes nine more years to complete the review afterwards. People such as

The quote "significant figures in history always have flaws" rings true for several historical figures,
however, in regards to Eleanor Roosevelt, it can be argued that her achievements far outweigh her
flaws. Eleanor's contradictory policies and causes created confusion and inspired critics, although
her compassionate attitude inspired several positive changes despite this. At the time, a lot of her
actions were considered to be controversial; however, as society has evolved a lot of people can
view her as being forward thinking and just. Her attitude towards her role as a First Lady was also
quite presumptuous, however, some may view this as a positive trait rather than a flaw. Despite
Eleanor Roosevelt's flaws as a politician and public figure, she was highly influential and changed
the path of history and minority groups throughout America. In many documents describing Eleanor
Roosevelt, she is explained as being either one of two oppositional extremes – an amazing
humanitarian, or a stoic business woman. These kind of contradictions penalise Eleanor, creating
confusion amongst Americans. Some causes of hers were also contradictory – for example, she was
a strong believer in liberal women, yet rejected the Equal Rights Amendment. Eleanor believed that
the Equal Rights Amendment would jeopardise the laws she had fought to put into place for women
– such as minimum wage laws and exclusion from dangerous jobs. However, Eleanor was and
remains to be an influential figure for strong women worldwide. She stated in Redbook Magazine,
"Women must learn to play the game as men do." She worked hard to ensure women were involved
in politics, by emphasising that women speak their minds on the issues they face. Being such an
active and outspoken First Lady was revolutionary and extremely important for the country to see.
In this way, Eleanor's contradictions can be overlooked as the causes she worked for inspired many

Society has long since recognized the concept of men being superior to women, both in the aspects
of physical strength and the ability to earn living for their family. It was a natural concept that based
and formed the modern society: strong versus weak, superior versus inferior, non–marginalized
versus marginalized. In earlier time, this concept materialized itself in the battle of the sexes, or

These differences were influenced by the time periods in which they lived, but they had the same
basic premise: women were not respected enough, and the same basic goals: women needed to work
by themselves to earn that respect they deserved.
The ways society viewed women in each essayist's era were different in accordance with the growth
of feminism. In Mary Wollstonecraft's essay, we could see that women were seen as the less
important sex to the extreme extent by the society of her era. They are, "ridiculed or pitied by the
writers who endeavor by satire or instructions to improve them" (559), and "are taken out of their
sphere of duties, and made ridiculous and useless when the short–lived bloom of beauty is over."
(560). Such remarks, though they might have been victims of hyperboles, couldn't have stemmed
from mere insignificant degrading treatment from the society. These remarks showed that women, in
Wollstonecraft's era, were viewed no more than objects of desire, means of reproduction which
could be easily disposed and ridiculed once those of the greater sex grew bored with them. These
notions might have sounded absurd, but if one were to base their opinions solely from those
remarks, it was easy to see that women were treated almost with no real respect for their identities.

Donald Trump is a name that nearly every person with access to social media knows. When he
began his campaign for presidency in the citizens of the United States, as well as most of the
developed world, took it as a joke. They did not believe that a businessman with multiple failed
ventures and no political background to speak of could succeed in the presidential race. Because of

This bill seems to do a lot of good, it creates jobs. But it does so much more. The American Jobs Act
of 2011will decrease the national deficit by $6 billion dollars over the next ten years. "That
estimated deficit reduction of $6 billion over the coming decade is the net effect of $447 billion in
additional spending and tax cuts" (Congressional Budget Office). Why so little return for the
amount of money being spent? Almost a half trillion dollars are being spent and only 6 billion
dollars are being reduced from the deficit. This bill is leaving something out.
Americans know the value of a balanced budget. If no more money is spent than brought in the
creditors do not bother to call. But for those who spend more than they make it is not such an easy
process. First many phone calls begin as creditors begin to look for their money. If no money can be
paid back the family must declare bankruptcy. If a family cannot live outside its means than why
should the government? If a corporation cannot operate within its means it soon folds. So why
should the government try?

describe their struggle with identity. Eavan Boland and Seamus Heaney both write poems which
express an internal struggle with roles of identity and how they recreate their roles to fit their needs.

more uprisings. Sadly, this was not the case. Women's rights were slow to come and it would still be
many years before they achieved even a semblance of equality to men. In the 1920s women became

The ERA was introduced in every Congress since 1923, and yet it still failed to gain ratification. The
ERA was the Equal Rights Amendment, which means that equality of rights under the law shall not
be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. I believe it was never
passed because of many reasons. One reason was because some ERA supports got offended by other

We can take the instance in the first creation story, where God created man and woman at the same
time symbolizing that men and women are equal. Unfortunately, many do not use this creation
story; many tend to focus more on the second creation story, where Eve comes after Adam. Stanton
points out this difference in her article "The Solitude of self" and looks deeper into the reason as
why society tends to focus more on our male contour parts. Stanton points out the flaws in our
society although not stating a real way to fix these flawed traditions she does draw attention to them.
Men dominate today 's society and one of the main factors in this domination is the tradition that
was put into place by Biblical stories.

which has put "rules" into young girls heads such as you have to have long hair, cursing is not lady

to eliminate the stereotypes against people based on their sex and to end other inequality that people

against women's rights along with thousands of women by nonviolent protesting, marches and

the president of the Burlington County Trust Company which delivered a nice life for the Paul
family. While Alice experienced a fortunate life on her father's farm she was educated with Quaker
customs. Quaker traditions include working to benefit society, gender fairness, and non–
materialistic morals alongside close connections to nature and society, and humility. As Alice grew
older she became a devoted pupil all the way through grade school. After grade school in 1901,
Alice Paul attended Swathmore College. While attending Swathmore, Paul served as a member on
