1. In what ways does your Media
Product use, develop or
challenge Forms & Conventions
of Real Media Products?
By leia smith
2. Teaser Trailer
• We used conventions of real media products in
our teaser trailer by desaturation of the images.
We also used transitions which would normally be
seen in psychological thrillers. Teaser trailers are
usually between 30-90 seconds long and our
teaser trailer was 54 seconds long. We decided to
use red text on a black background as this was a
convention used in our genre.
• We also followed the pace of normal conventions
of a psychological thriller as they normally start of
calm and slow and then tension will build up and
the pace will increase; this is what we did in our
teaser trailer. We also used the same Foley
sounds for example, a creaking door and sounds
of birds in the woods. This juxtaposes the
calmness of the woods to the bad that’s in it. This
is also shown in the chase seen as we used
intense music almost as a jump scare for our
audience.
3. Magazine cover
• We decided to use Fangoria as our magazine
cover as they are well known for advertising
horror and thriller films. We used the same
layout, titles and colour scheme to make it look
more realistic and professional.
• We decided to put a film reel on the left hand
side of the magazine cover with images of
previous AS media productions as this is what
Fangoria has done in their previous covers with
other film productions.
4. Poster
We decided to use a bold red title on our
background as it the main colour used in
psychological thriller posters. This is because the
connotations of red are danger and fear. We also
used the colour white as this contrasted well with
the red and the dark background. The release date
is also in red so our audience will notice the title
and the release date more.
The billing block in located at the bottom of the
poster and the writing is small as this is where
billing blocks are usually located and the text is
normally small as it isn’t the main focus of the
poster.
The tagline is located underneath our title in white
as in stands out from the dark background.
