Women find the older men cool–headed and mature: This is the first and foremost reason that works for relations in younger women dating older men.
The older men are considered as mature and even on overall personal aspects. You cannot easily find an older guy fighting cats and dogs with another
one or behaving like the savage that is what many young men do because of immaturity. The older people are rather dealing the critical matters with
dignity. This attracts the younger women to be in a relationship with the older men for living in a dignified manner. Maturity is the soul of dignity that
is the foundation for any successful relationship.
2.Women find older men more respectful towards them: As described above this is the basic difference that tends the young women in getting
attracted towards the older men. Being at the same age level the sense of respect towards each other vanishes away easily which not the case in
couples is like; younger women dating older men. In such situations, both are paying respect to each other. Even the women find the older men more

Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy
In "Barbie Doll" by Marge Piercy, society has a way of placing unrealistic expectations on women in today's society. By using television, magazines,
posters, slogans, and even toys women are given an image that they have to conform to in order to be beautiful. The speaker takes the reader through
what a young child that developing into a beautiful woman may face as she goes through society and the hurtful comments made to her referencing her
natural beauty. She uses self–image as the prominent theme, a tone that shifts quickly and dramatically and a counter argument that walks you through
all stages of life.
Overall, the theme of "Barbie Doll" is self–image. Self–image is something that every woman will face and struggle with. "She went to and fro
apologizing (10)", suggests that the young woman does struggle with her natural beauty. "Her good nature wore out (15)", shows that eventually the
young woman gave up on being herself. The tone is sardonic in the fact that her classmates are now satisfied with her once she is dead. "To every
woman a happy ending (25)". The image of a beautiful woman is a matter of opinion. Society has gotten to the point where a woman will lose in the
end. Her natural beauty will fade as she grows older, gaining wrinkles, grey hair and becoming feeble.
Meanwhile, the tone can be described as caustic, or bitter. Tonal shifts range from bitter or sardonic to 'as a matter of fact'. These shifts show what a
woman will go through as she absorbs the

The Role Of Sexism In Advertising
Advertisements from the early 1900s to today's marketing propaganda have changed dramatically in terms of picture and context through the years.
Some similarities still remain through the evolution of marketing merchandise, but many differences can be seen in more recent ads. The Palmolive
soap company's advertisements from the 1900s exemplify the issue of sexism that took place in that time period. The ads primarily focus on the youth
and beauty of women and how it appeals to men. The advertisement creators target the insecurities of women and threaten the achievement of being
loved by a man. Women are made to believe that their intelligence does not contribute to a man's affection, but only beauty will grant awoman the gift
of eternal love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Creators focus mainly on the appearance of the ads rather than presenting a contextual argument. Advertisement agencies have almost completely
dropped phrases and text on their ads and solely rely on the quality of the picture to present their case. Coloration, symbolism, and other visual cues
are emphasized in today's ads to catch the audience's attention. Whereas the older ads depended almost entirely on presenting their product through
bombarding the endorsement with paragraphs of text. The advancement of technology brings new ways to access more eye catching coloration and a
better quality of picture. Many people are more attracted to a brightly colored, provocative image rather than a page full of bland text which can be
seen as a reason to completely rely on picture

Gender Disadvantages And Advantage Of Older Women In...
Evidence showed that in terms of marital status, labor force participation and educational attainment, older women are likely vulnerable than older
men in Indonesia (Abikusno, 2007). Recent report showed that there was a significant gender differential in educational attainment among older
people. It was reported that 39% older women had never been to school, and only 23% older men had not any education (UNFPA, 2014).
Meanwhile, the majority of older women are not willing to married again after losing their spouse compare to older men. As the result, a higher
proportion of older women tend to live alone: 14.6 percent women compared to 4.2 percent of men. Study showed that the primary source of funds
for majority of older men came from work and business, while half of the older women revealed that their primary source of finance is from their
children and children–in–law (Arifin, Braun & Hogervorst, 2012). It appears that economic dependency, along with diminished family support and lack
of education, makes older women more vulnerable to ageing than older men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Analysis
A Woman's Guideline to Life
Do you ever wish that you were given instructions on how to live the right way? Jamaica Kincaid does exactly that in her short story, "Girl". "Always
eat your food in such a way that it won't turn someone else's stomach–" (Kincaid 40). Jamaica Kincaid's story "Girl" gives off a powerful message of the
demands women feel in today's society. The structure of Kincaid's story, captures the tone and reveals the great deal of expectations that individuals
assume women should portray. From the very beginning of Kincaid's piece, the mother commands her daughter to perform tasks. The mother's
reluctance to speak gently or even use the word "please" strongly suggests that the mother is in full and vast control of her daughter, just as society
is. Kincaid's "Girl" allows readers a glance into the strict demeanor in which women and girls face in our culture. Depicted in the short story, beauty
and behavior standards were ever so prevalent decades ago and continue to be a driving factor in today's culture. Today's society has many unrealistic
beauty and behavior standards that are enforced upon women.
The narrative in "Girl" is presented as a set of life instructions to a girl by her mother on how to live life properly. The mother figure in the story
focuses on two main categories in her guidance: social manners and domesticity– which happen to be forced upon many girls till this day. A series of
commands is listed from the mother to prevent her daughter

Social Media On Women Research Paper
"I woke up like this, I woke up like this, flawless, Ladies tell them" (Beyonce Verse 3)! Females may look like a million bucks on Facebook (a social
media website), but do they feel like a million bucks? There are many females who pretend to be untroubled on social media so others will not view
them as emotionally weak and unstable. "Specifically, [women] are misusing the social media tools given to them and creating false impressions of
themselves that are fueling their own insecurities..." (Negroni Screen 2). Women pretend to be someone there not on social media, so no–one will
know how they really feel. The artwork successfully shows how the woman feels by using color, contrast between light and dark, as well as

The woman holding the cellphone is the real woman and the woman in the picture is who she pretends to be. Women post pictures on the internet
while they have on their nicest clothing, have their hair perfectly styled, have on a full face of makeup, and have a big, alluring smile on their face.
People will scroll past the woman's picture and assume that the woman has glamourous life. In reality, they are unaware that the woman is pretending
to be perfect. Every female is naturally born with flaws. If humanity showed recognition to the women who are satisfied with being themselves then,
more women will feel content to accept who they are. The woman behind the picture is in distress. The artist is concerned with the number of
women who are in despair but, portraying that they are fine. He painted this artwork to convince us that the women in social media are deceiving
society, although they can not delude themselves. Archilles is incredibly knowledgeable, he is aware of the truth behind social media. He is not
blinded by the fraud pictures that society wants everyone to see, but sees things for what they really are. He is convincing us to look past the pictures
and realize that these women are hurting. The woman on the picturing who is suffering connects with the women in life who aren't happy with
themselves and feel hopeless, drained, and emotionally dead. The artist is biased about which genders are suffering, both sex can me miserable and not
show it. Therefore, when you see someone on social media that is smiling, happily do not assume that their life is perfect. The artist presents a clear
message, throughout this artwork, that women in social media are only pretending that they are

House On Mango Street Research Paper
House on Mango Street Esperanza is an intelligent girl who has experienced many misfortunes and successes, that have impacted her for the better
and the worse. Throughout the novel, Esperanza meets many people who are considered to be "stuck" in Mango Street. This was not apparent to her
until one of the sisters, in the chapter titled The Three Sisters, said "You must remember to come back. For the ones who cannot leave as easily as
you" (105). Although the text does not state who specifically she should return for, Esperanza knows what the sisters meant. The interaction between

As she became more familiar with the people in her neighborhood, she started to feel responsibility for them. She recognizes herself as a part of
society, so she feels the need to give back in order to break the poverty cycle and cycle of abuse for women. She needed to return for the people that
were stuck on Mango Street. The most obvious reason she needs to return is that people she cares about are stuck in the cycle of abuse and in result
have become very dependent on others. For example, Sally escaped an abusive father only to marry an abusive man. Her father would leave bruises
on her and when she went to school she would tell people she fell down the stairs, but her friends knew that wasn't true (92). Her husband only lets her
go outside with his permission, doesn't allow her to look out the window, took away her forms of communication, and no one is permitted to visit her.
Another woman that was in a different but in a way similar situation was Minerva. In the chapter titled Minerva Writes Poetry, the author described
Minerva's life. She is not much older then Esperanza, but she already has two kids and a husband who left (84). Her husband is her biggest problem
because he left and keeps on leaving, which is really hard on Minerva. "She comes over black and blue and asks what can she do?" (85). What are you

Like A Girl: The Always Campaign
Many young girls and women face gender barriers and discrimination across the world. Stereotypes are made by people that believe women are
weak, slow, and shy. Those assumptions can make a woman or girl feel less than what she is. Always brand main focus is to empower women and

Misogyny In Whale Rider
The film, Whale Rider, released in 2003 and directed by Niki Caro, is essentially about a young 12–year–old girl called Paikea who faces hardships
whilst discovering who she truly is among cultural misogyny in a Maori tribe situated in New Zealand. Misogyny is the dislike and adamant prejudice
of women by men and is usually caused unconsciously by a trigger from an obstructive encounter with women in the past. This was an issue in the film
as traditionally, the chief roles were ascended upon the males, and if anyone challenged this practice, they would be disobeying the ancestors, thus
being dubbed as 'disloyal'. The theme portrayed in my visual representation is Female role models and Misogyny as I believe that the Whale Rider

In the Paikea image, I chose to use red during editing as the highlight to represent her passion and her strength to break down the barrier Koro has
placed between them due to Koro's stubbornness in limiting the leadership role to a male. The pink is set as the shadow to express Pai's
open–mindedness towards breaking the tradition of a male leader and instead assign a female for the leadership role. Therefore, this showcases the
theme well due to the apparent misogyny Koro has on Pai becoming the next chief. The reason behind my choice of red as highlight and pink as the
shadow is because you need passion in order to accomplish what you want to achieve. Open–mindedness only sets the motion, while passion completes
it. Without passion, your ability is limited to only dreams.
Another technique that is portrayed in my visual representation is the simile. 'Females can be strong as hell' I included this quote mainly for its
blunt, but honest tone in illustrating the perseverance and resilience of women, such as when Paikea still participated in Koro's lessons with the boys
secretly, despite being rejected by him initially due to Koro's belief that males shall only be elected as chief. This ties in well with the use of red and
pink (as described before), to show that femininity and grace can co–exist with passion and

A & P By John Updike
Living in California we see women in swimsuits quite often, maybe too often. Still we have those people that find the need to objectify women, even
the ones they have seen many times. Although that is what Sammy does in John Updike's "A&P". The way "A&P" depicts the young girls is
objectifying: from how the main character describes the young women, how he disrespects the older lady he was checking out, the manager kicking
the girls out of the store because of what they are wearing, and how the girls dress the way they do even though they are not close to the beach.
Even after all the trouble women go through to look according to society's norms, people still catch every small thing that is not perfect to society.
According to Lois Tyson, "she is objectified...defined only by her difference from male norms and values, defined by what she (allegedly) lacks..."
(92). Women are unmistakably different from men biologically; so why is it such a shock when she has a small part of her skin showing, just
because it is her breast or any other 'forbidden' areas? If a woman shows her butt cheeks it is disgraceful, but if a man shows his butt cheeks, it is hot.
It is the same body part just of difference sexes, yet society has labeled it differently for each sex. Women objectification should not be seen as her
fault, because like every woman around her, she is doing what she has to to stay comfortable. Sammy, the story's narrator and main character, notices
the girls right away, and when

Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
Society has created in their minds the way a woman is supposed to act and the things they are allowed to do. In Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl", we see a
young woman being forced to live by the likeness of the society in which she dwells. Although this is not the life she wants to live, she has no other
choice than to become the woman she was made to be.
Throughout time the relationship between mothers and daughters have changed. Many mothers hold on to the "old fashioned" opinion of what a
woman should be and many older women feel that a women's true role in life is to be domesticated. This idea of a woman's place in the home is
being reinforced throughout Kincaid's short story. The mother in the story is telling her young daughter the ways things should be done. "Wash
the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the colored clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry." She
further goes on to describe other household chores and how they should be correctly done. "This is how you sweep a corner." She tells her
daughter how to set a table for different meals, how to cook things, and even how to pick out bread. Unfortunately, though, the story doesn't tell a
woman how to have a successful career, to go to college, or how to work outside of the home. In those days' women were expected to stay at home
while their husband's go out to work and make all the money. Even if they tried, they were not allowed to go outside the way society made them to
be and this mother is trying to raise her young daughter the same way she was raised which is to be a house wife.
Even though the girl says nothing in the story, she is building resentment towards her mother because she feels that she should be allowed to make
her own decision on whether to be domesticated. Throughout the story never did the mother once stop to get her daughter's input on the issues, she
just simply tells her daughter that she has no other choice but to be domesticated and there is no way of changing it. She tells the daughter how to
act, how to dress, how to talk, and even how to walk. "Always eat your food in a way that it won't turn someone else's stomach...On Sundays try to
walk like a lady and not like the slut that you are

Analysis Of The Book ' Two And Three Things I Know For Sure '
In the book 'Two or Three things i know for sure', Dorothy Allison who tells her story growing up in a memoir and she uses her experiences to
explain the two or The things she learned. What makes this her story stand out is not just that it 's a memoir but also because the main point is beauty
and how women in her family were put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this whole book Dorothy tries to send out one
important message on beauty which from my understanding beauty is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a woman 's
beauty is determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy Dow Adams who read's 'Two or Three things i know for sure'
writes his review on it, and his understanding of Dorothy Allison 's points of views. In pages 32 through 34 from the Book 'Two or Three things i

women on her family were not considered beautiful stating, "the women of my family were measured, manlike, sexless, bearers of babies, burden
and concept" (Pg.32) with that she incorporates the image of the women were she says that they look "exhausted", "old", "ugly" and she goes on to

Strength Training In Older Women
As women age, muscle control begins to slowly decline. The choice in loss of muscular velocity seems to be voluntary due to the lack of strength
training in older women. In order for muscles to strengthen, activation through endurance is necessary. The study done by Andre Gurjao, and his
colleagues, suggest the use of strength training (ST) has a positive correlation on rate force development in women, specifically older women.
Neuromuscular changes take affect on the power contributed within muscles that are accompanied with aging. Strength training reverses the effects of

Gender and Identity in Raymond Carver's so Much Water, so...
Men are from Mars, women are from Venus. We've all heard the saying, but what does it mean? We are different, that goes without saying. As
evidenced in Raymond Carver's "So Much Water, So Close to Home", men and women differ on many key issues of morality, perception, and
judgment. The two do have something in common, believe it or not, and that is the expectation of the opposite gender to communicate, think, and react
in the exact way they do. Hence, frustration. Not with themselves, God forbid the two ever see a situation from each other's point of view. The
frustration is with the opposite gender, over something that for the most part, they cannot help. As we have seen time and time again and as Carver
proves, it's in our blood. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men as a whole are known to be less compassionate and sensitive than women. The example used in the story is of course an extreme case– in reality
even the most masculine of characters would not likely leave a dead body in the river close by for days and even wash their dishes next to it without
calling on the proper authorities to help. What does it mean to be a woman? In "So Much Water, So Close to Home", the narrator Claire is portrayed
as an average woman. She has a hard working husband and a young son. All of the women in the story, excluding the dead one, are shown as very
compassionate people. They are sensitive and caring to the needs of other people, even to those they do not personally know. When Claire's
husband Stuart returns home from his annual fishing trip, he tells her about how he and his friends found the woman's body in the river. Not before
having a cold beer, sex with Claire, and a good night's sleep, however. Claire cannot comprehend how in the world her husband could have done this.
The fact that Stuart had found a body and waited several days to report it is bad enough, but for him to come home and carry on as if it had never
happened is unimaginable to Claire. She even considers the possibility that it was her husband who raped and killed the innocent young woman. She
later realizes, however, that her husband did not commit that particular crime. Claire thinks that her husband's inaction was a crime in itself. Claire sees

Britney Spears as Role Model for All Women Essay
Britney Spears' prevalence as a pre–teen pop culture icon cannot be denied or ignored. Spears, along with her colleagues Christina Aguilera, Jessica
Simpson, Mandy Moore and many others, are ever present on the "Top 40," make frequent appearances on MTV, and can often be found on magazine
covers and in photo spreads. Spears is especially popular among pre–teen girls, who buy her records, singing and dancing along to the lyrics. These
lyrics often deal with love, lust, and sex–topics some consider too mature for the young girls targeted by Spears' marketing. Young women today are
maturing at increasingly earlier ages, and the sexual messages in Spears' songs may simply be satisfying an existing demand for these types of songs. ...

When speaking about early pop music songs, she explains "although they were mass–produced they were individually interpreted. The songs were
ours–but the were also everyone else's...we found solidarity as girls" (499). This certainly holds true for Spears' songs. Spears is often criticized for
having mass–produced songs that someone else wrote for her. However, these songs have mass appeal which Douglas considers a strength. Pre–teen
girls, in the midst of forging an identity among their peers can certainly find solidarity by singing out the words to "Hit Me Baby One More Time"
together. At the very least, Spears' music will serve to unite women twenty years from now who will still know all the words to the catchy tunes as
they play over the oldies radio station.
At the same time, depending on each girl's individual knowledge and experience, the songs will be interpreted differently. The lyrics give voice to a
range of emotions that girls may have and be unable to express otherwise. Another positive quality of pop music is that it can give conflicting
emotions a voice, something that can aid in the process of growing up. As Douglas put it, girl groups "gave voice to all the warring selves inside us

The Economic Status Of Older Women
The Economic Status Of Older Women In Canada
Studies have shown economic disparities between married women, unmarried women, and those who are divorced or separated later in life. Each of
these women will experience a different standard of living and financial well–being based on the circumstances of their life course (Davies & Denton,
2002). In 2008 women living alone had the highest rate of low income with an after–tax poverty rate of 17%, while men had a 12% after–tax poverty
rate (Milan & Vezina, 2011, as cited in Novak, Campbell, & Northcott, 2014, p. 193). Studies show that separated and divorced women are the poorest
of all older unattached women in Canada and the group that should be the focus of public concern. In this paper I ... Show more content on

Not all unattached women are the same when it comes to their economic well–being at older ages. Older women who were never married tend to better
off financially because of their commitment to the labour force throughout their adult years. With a greater number of years working they are able to
collect higher Canadian/Quebec Pension payments (Davies & Denton, 2002). Widows tend to be worse off financially than those who were never
married, but better off than those who were separated or divorced in mid and later years. This difference is because a widow can benefit from the
assets left behind by their husband, as well as receives C/QPP payments (Davies & Denton, 2002).
Going through a separation or divorce in mid and later life increases the likelihood of an elderly woman living in poverty. According to Davies &
Denton (2002), a woman who is married may rely on her husband's financial resources for security later in life. As such, she may not do any retirement
planning of her own. A woman who divorces later in life is left with a very short and unrealistic amount of time to build up her own savings before
turning 65. Davies & Denton (2002) found that retired divorcees are least likely of all women to rate their income as adequate to meet their needs.

demonstrating how being a female should be liberating, and women should not feel held back by their gender. In The House on Mango Street, Sandra
Cisneros speaks of a similar idea. As Malala indicates, Cisneros also indicates how being a woman can be empowering; however, Cisneros also
establishes how being a woman raised in a marginalized community can have adverse mental and physical repercussions. Through countless
stories and the motif of women sitting by windows, Cisneros ratifies how draining it is to be an average woman in Esperanza's community. In The
House on Mango Street, women by windows depict women trapped by their families, specifically their husbands, maturing into a disturbing image
that portrays the failure to be an individual that makes her own decisions. In the vignette "Rafaela Who Drinks Coconut and Papaya Juice on
Tuesdays," the author tells of a woman who is "too beautiful to look at," saying, "Rafaela who ... wishes there were sweeter drinks, not bitter like
an empty room, but sweet sweet like the island, like the dance hall down the street where women much older than her throw green eyes easily like
dice and open homes with keys" (Cisneros 80). Rafaela is yearning to be able to leave her home like the women she envies. She compares the
bitterness of her fruit drinks to the desolation and seclusion of the house, and wishes the drinks were sweeter, expressing her looking out the
window and longing for something more in life, like the fortunate few women in her community have. A character Esperanza knows named Sally
has received abuse from her father, and when she gets married, Esperanza says, "She says she is in love, but I think she did it to escape" (Cisneros 101)
and, "She sits at home because she is afraid to go outside without his permission" (Cisneros 102). Sally tried to get away from her father's physical
abuse, but in doing so, she is now living the life of a woman by the window, a

Friendship In The House On Mango Street
The novel describes the life of an adolescent girl named Esperanza and the hardships she endures as she journeys the path to adulthood. To an
adolescent, friendship is something eminently valued; it's something Esperanza has been desperately longing for even in the initial vignettes. She
feels that until she finds a real companion, she is a "[red] balloon tied to an anchor" (Cisneros 8). Nenny is really the only friend Esperanza has, but
she doesn't consider her an actual friend because of her young age. The responsibility of taking care of her is a burden, and she is too young to relate
with her. While Esperanza awaits true friendship, her sister, tied to her by blood, is the anchor that weighs her down and prevents her from being a

Analysis Of The Poem ' Girl ' By Jamaica Kincaid
Through time, things have changed for women. "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid is a short story that launched her career. A story of an older woman who
provides an endless list of rules or advice, using the discouragement of female sexuality and showing how it defines what it means to be a woman and
shapes the way women are expected to behave to a young girl. This short story limits to what women are able to do and what they cannot do. Often the
older women seem more insulting and scolding than helpful to the younger girl. "Girl" has a variety of themes. For instance, the discouragement of
female sexuality. Throughout the story it illustrates a conversation between an older woman and a young girl in which the older women makes
references to the young girl supposed tendency towards promiscuity despite her young age, she informs the girl what her role is as a woman. For
instance, "...on Sundays try to walk like a lady and not like the slut you are so bent on becoming" (Kincaid 229). It's clear that sexuality is something
that must be guarded. Then she highlights things like cleaning, cooking, and sewing to help define her the young girl what being a girl means. The
beginning of the story the older women start off by telling the younger the proper ways to clean, cook, and construct clothes. She has one perspective
on that there is only one right
way to behave for a young woman. "...to prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on becoming," the young girl

Reflections Of Older Iranian Women Summary
Dealing With the Move from Iran In the article, "Reflections of Older Iranian Women," Jasmin McConatha, Paul Stoller, and Fereshte Oboudiat find
that there are three ways in which older Iranian women adapt to moving to a new country. The women are either withdrawn, insular, or assimilative.
Although the grandmother from the story, "Mother the Big," is more aggressive, strict, and overbearing than the "withdrawn" women, she relates to
them in the way of not wanting anything to do with the US. In the story, "Mother the Big," a grandson with a harsh grandmother tells of his life
growing up with his Iranian grandmother who does not want him to have anything to do with America. The grandmother makes him wear a helmet to
bed every night, tells him that American women are horrible creatures, and instead of letting him speak, talks about why Iran is superior to America. The
grandson instead falls more in love with his new country. He gets involved with an American woman and, with her, does many American things....

Thus making them feel like they were losing their culture, causing them to want nothing to do with America, activities and all. The "withdrawn"
women, for the most part, stayed homebound and interacted only with members of their immediate family. Those Iranian women seemed negative and
had a sense of regret. They would often time voice their loss and displacement. "According to Gergen (1991), the self has the capacity to adapt to
changing social and cultural demands. Memories of previous life experiences interlaced with recollections of significant social and historic
transformations, can both hinder and facilitate adaptation to new situations" ( McConatha, Stoller, Oboudiat 3). That quote is the perfect example to
show the reasoning behind the "withdrawn" women. They remember their old country which makes the women not want to adapt to America or a new

Compare And Contrast The Knight's Tale And The Wife Of Bath
In the fourteen–hundreds women were seen differently by men than now a days. Women were viewed as a price or as an honor. Men would do crazy
things in order to have that women they desire in their power. They would give up their lives for these special women who felt like queens around the
men. Since woman were always being treated as a treasure, they started getting used and expected everything from men. In the Knight's tale and The
Wife of Bath's Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer describe how these things happened back then 1400's. Both of these tales are similar of howwomen would act
with men.
Back then in the 1400's some girls acted differently by having more respect to themselves, but some didn't. Some girls liked going out there to have
some pleasure. In the Knight's Tale there this beautiful girl named Jocelyn who is very flirty with the men that comments, " Better a silly girl with a

the young and beautiful girl. Before the war one of the contestant states, "My pride is the only thing that they can't take from me." Men are very
prideful of who they are in society, and that is why he won't take any chance of loosing this intense fight. By winning something you have fought for,

A & P And Araby By James Joyce
A&P by John Updike and Araby by James Joyce are two short stories that have multiple differences and similarities. A&P is about a teenager and
his lust for young ladies and Araby is about a young boy who had a crush on a older girl. I will be comparing and contrasting the portrayal of women,
love and epiphany in the two short stories A&P and Araby. I believewomen are portrayed negatively in A&P. I have came to this conclusion because I
believe Sammy treats the "Queenie" positively but treats the other two females negatively. For example Sammy describe the other girls using the
following statements "There was this chunky one, with the two–piece –– it was bright green and the seams on the bra were still sharp and her belly was

After this come in here with your shoulders covered. It 's our policy." (Updike, 145) Sammy wanting to make a good impression for the girls he
told Lengel that he is quitting because Lengel treated the young ladies unfairly by kicking them out but once Sammy reaches the exit the girls are
nowhere to be found and he basically quit his job for no reason. Sammy decision to quit was not justified due to the girls not being there to praise
and love him for being so brave to quit his job for them and the fact that he made such a major decision for people who he did not even know is stupid.
Now he does not have a job nor the young ladies.
I believe women are portrayed positively in Araby. I have come to this conclusion because of how much the littleboy values this girl and his efforts to
impress her. For example, each morning before school, he he camps by the window to see when she heads out to go to school. he leaves out when
she does and follows her to the school. They part ways once she reaches her school but he ensures that she sees him, hoping that she would notice
him. His crush confronted him for the first time to ask him if he was going to Araby. She was unable to go but he said "if I go, I will bring you
something" (Joyce, 253). This

Older Women In Advertising
Although, many magazines (such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Time, Sports Illustrated) feature women of all ages for the ads, some advertiser prefer to
use older women to grab their audience's attention; rather than using a younger woman; this is because older women are looking for something to
keep them looking vibrant, fresh, and glowing like in their younger days. By using these women in replacement of younger women, the advertiser
realize they will gain a better audience because older women will see the differences in appearance; and be willing to purchase their product to gain
the same results. For instance, just like in the magazine (Cosmo for Latinos) published by (Mulligan, 2015), where they (the advertisers) featured older

The Poverty Of Older Women
In this paper I will discuss the key factors
contributing to the poverty of older women in Canada, which are marital status, gender inequalities in the family, inequalities in the labour market, low
rates of alimony support, and problems with the retirement income system. Marital Status And Economic Well–Being According to McDonald & Robb
(2004), older divorced and separated women have the highest poverty rates among all older unmarried women. After divorce or separation a woman's
economic well–being declines an average of 23%–73%. Men's income, on the other hand, tends to increase following a divorce. Typically, older
women will have left marriages with few assets and limited labour market experience (Davies & Denton, 2002). Without the benefit of a husband's
income in retirement and little to

Analysis Of The Essential Metamorphoses And Goose Food
Ovid's epic "The Essential Metamorphoses" and Ghandl's poem "Goose food" present similar visions of women, and the writers show that men might
not actually be superior, compared to women as they are often portrayed in myth. Moreover, in Ovid, there are numerous myths told, but in most of
them, there is a recurrent theme of misogyny, and in the first myth of the epic – called "Origin of the World"–, on top of just describing the creation of
the world, it is mentioned that man was first to be created and woman was made second. This could be because of numerous reasons; for example,
Ovid could have been jealous that it was actually woman that was created first or maybe Ovid wanted to follow what the rest of society believed in
order to be able to gain the trust of the readers so that he could then be able to put unrealistic views and that when reading the epic, the reader
becomes skeptical of what seems so true to him at first and that maybe the whole principal of man being at the center of attention is not a true fact.
Similarly, in Ghandl's "Goose Food", this story is told in a single way and man again is at the center of the attention, but this could be to give...(not
good пѓџ). These stories portray women in a negative way in order to make readers realize that they are actually equal to men in real life and that they
might even be superior to men. This statement can be viewed through the way women look physically, the actions they perform, how men interact in
proximity to them

Essay on Toni Morrison's Sula
The Character of Sula as a Rose   Authors developed the canon in order to set a standard of literature that most people needed to have read
or to have been familiar with. The works included in the canon used words such as beautiful, lovely, fair, and innocent to describe women. The
canonical works also used conventional symbols to compare the women to flowers such as the rose and the lily. Thomas Campion depicts the
typical description of women in his poem, "There is a Garden in Her Face." He describes the women by stating, "There is a garden in her face/ Where
roses and white lilies grow,/ A heavenly paradise is that place,/ Wherein all pleasant fruits do flow" (1044

Unlike all the other women in the story, Sula is tough and does not let others interfere with her. She lives her life by her own rules and standards. The
people in the town notice that "except for a funny–shaped finger and that evil birthmark, she was free of any normal signs of vulnerability" (115).
Again, the rose symbolized Sula's growth and carefree way of life. However, the stemmed rose is more than just a mark that changes shades. First
of all, the rose represents a part of the whole that has been cut off from the original bush. Hence, Sula does not fit in with the people from the
Bottom, and she knows that she leads a different way of life. Sula explains that the women of the Bottom will die "like a stump, [while she will go
down] like one of those redwoods" (143). Everyone of the Bottom is alike and united in their hatred and fear of Sula. Because Sula is promiscuous
and improper by the Bottom's standards, the women of the town believed they were leading better lives because of they did not live like Sula. In
reality, however, the women were denying reality and used Sula to get over their guilt. Sula feels she is on a different level entirely her own, and
"she never competed; she simply helped others to define themselves" (95). Society needs her in order to unite against her. Sula cuts herself from the
bush of the Bottom because she does not go along with the crowd, represented by the bush. Next, it is ironic that the rose

Chromosomes contain genetic information that is passed down from the parents to the child. The possibility of a mistake during cell division rise
as a woman ages, therefore; the chances of chromosomal dysfunction increases. "All genetic abnormalities increase as the egg gets older."(Cohen,
and Bonifield) Each female is born with a certain amount of eggs, these eggs do not multiply and you cannot add more. During each menstrual
period a female loses one of her eggs, and these cannot be replaced. As a female gets older so does her eggs, therefore, during the division of cells it
leaves a lot of room for mistake. If the chromosome pair does not split and separate the egg will have 24 chromosomes not the 23 that are needed.
The difference of only one chromosome can change the faith of the child from being normal to having down syndrome. "In the 1st trimester
miscarriages occur because of chromosomal abnormality in the fetus." ("Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia") As a result, older woman have a much
higher chance at some chromosomal disorder when they are having children at an older age. "Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by an

On Beauty Analysis
Beauty and Body Image Zadie Smith's On Beauty is filled with characters who all readers can relate to. The novel focuses primarily on the
Belseys, who are a mixed race family living in Boston. During the novel, the Belsey family members undergo challenges and situations that shape
and mold their identities. The father, Howard is in the middle of a mid life crisis struggling with lack of success in his career, feeling stuck and his
infidelity to his wife, Kiki. Kiki is also struggling with aging and coming to terms with her changing body as well as the unknown fate of her
marriage following Howard's affair. The Belsey children, as well as Vee, the daughter of Howard's rival Monty Kipps, struggle with their own coming
of age stories as they emerge as young adults. One main struggle that all the female characters have in common is body image. The burden of a woman

A Summary Of The Witch Hysteria
In 1692 there was a thing going around, it was called "Witch Hysteria". It started off with a girl named Abby. Abby cousin has been a sick child

the group of girls and the slave were doing what they do every day when the priest left to go to work. The little girl was there with the group, when
they started to do magical stuff, the little girl freaked out. Then when Abby went to go see what was wrong with her, Abby started to do the same
thing. The salve freaked out and went to calm them down. As the slave walked away to calm the girls, the other girls (the cousin's ) started to look
more at the cup and they started to freak out. The priest came back and saw the group of girls freaking out and ask them what was going on. After
that, only the little girl stops freaking out. Abby was still freaking out. The aunt and uncle called the doctor. The doctor couldn't seem to find out what
was wrong with Abby, the little girl on the other hand didn't eat for two days, didn't talk and couldn't walk. The doctor told the uncle (priest) that the
girls might be cursed by a witch. All of the priests came to the girl's house to bless them. Abby was telling the priests and her uncle that there were

Widowers, tend to be worse off than those who were never married, but better off than those who were separated or divorced in mid and later
years. This is because widows can benefit from husbands' assets left to them, and to receive some protection from C/QPP. Going through a
separation or divorce in mid and later life increases the likelihood of an elderly woman living in poverty. A woman who is married may rely on her
husband's financial resources for security later in life. As such, she may not do any retirement planning of her own. A woman who divorces later
in life is left with a very short and unrealistic amount of time to build up her own savings before turning 65. These women are less likely to receive
pension income and their average economic family income from pensions is much lower than that of married men and women or even divorced or
separated men. Retired divorcees are least likely of all women to rate their income as adequate to meet their needs. Gender Inequalities In The

novel as Smith describes the "sexual universe". Kiki ponders how "when you are no longer in the sexual universe – when you are supposedly too old,
or too big, or simply no longer thought of in that way – apparently a whole new range of male reactions to you come into play" (51). Kiki realizes that

Misogyny In The Wife Of Bath
Misogyny is not only visible in the Miller's tale, but also in the Wife of Bath's tale through the very superficial standards set for women by men. The
old woman asks that the knight marries her in return for giving him the answer to the riddle and he reacts in disgust and horror, "'...to take me as your
wife...'Alas and woe is me!...I am ugly and poor...my damnation! Alas, that any of my birth should ever be so foully disgraced!" (Chaucer, "The Wife
of Bath's Tale," 199–213). The knight is visibly distraught, using words such as "damnation" and "disgraced" when the old woman expresses her wish to
marry him. He displays these emotions not because she wants to get married, but because she is ugly and poor. He is worried because an ugly wife
will mar his reputation and is a poor reflection of him. This translates to the misogynistic society during the time period where women were seen as
property to be shown off, rather than people who deserved respect. The recurring theme of misogyny in these two tales shows that Chaucer does not
feel sympathy for the opposite gender, but instead belittles their plight.
In both tales, each woman is judged based on her attractiveness, they are both surrendered to the unfair and superficial beauty standards of the age
Chaucer lived in. The women are negatively portrayed based on the attributes they display. The old woman is ugly and poor and therefore is seen as a
woman unfit to be a wife. The reaction of the knight when he finds out that he

The Birth Of Older Women Essay
For the mother, babies can make them feel and appear younger. In the early to mid–twenties is when a woman will have the most energy but are much
less likely than a woman over 35 to be financially stable, be established in their work life and have the resources to look after and care for a baby.
Older women will also have more life experience and maturity to draw on in rearing a child and looking after a baby. Younger mothers are known
to sometimes feel resentful at having to postpone their jobs to look after a baby but older mothers are usually wanting and ready for a baby so
unlikely to feel that same resentment. Also younger women tend to worry a lot more about their body image at that age as well as focussing on
jobs or marriage and adding a baby into the mix can just be too much. An older woman is likely to be more stable in a relationship and therefore
more likely to deal well with the changes that parenthood brings. Older women will have had many more years to think over what a baby will
mean and are more likely than a younger woman to be emotionally ready to have a child. The older one is, the more mature and patient one will be
with a child, in theory. Younger mothers, very young that is, find it hard in today's society as it is not generally geared towards helping mothers in or
barely out of school. John Mirowsky, a sociologist at the University of Texas, wrote that for ages 20 and younger "pregnancy is more likely to happen

Kim Kardashian Stereotypes
There isn't one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television
stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and
transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when
speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The
Kardashians is known for her "perfect hour glass figure" with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger–than–average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is
regarded as many for having the perfect body, and other women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in order to achieve the same vanity appeal. ...

With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and commentators bash her constantly because she doesn't fit

  • 4. Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy In "Barbie Doll" by Marge Piercy, society has a way of placing unrealistic expectations on women in today's society. By using television, magazines, posters, slogans, and even toys women are given an image that they have to conform to in order to be beautiful. The speaker takes the reader through what a young child that developing into a beautiful woman may face as she goes through society and the hurtful comments made to her referencing her natural beauty. She uses self–image as the prominent theme, a tone that shifts quickly and dramatically and a counter argument that walks you through all stages of life. Overall, the theme of "Barbie Doll" is self–image. Self–image is something that every woman will face and struggle with. "She went to and fro apologizing (10)", suggests that the young woman does struggle with her natural beauty. "Her good nature wore out (15)", shows that eventually the young woman gave up on being herself. The tone is sardonic in the fact that her classmates are now satisfied with her once she is dead. "To every woman a happy ending (25)". The image of a beautiful woman is a matter of opinion. Society has gotten to the point where a woman will lose in the end. Her natural beauty will fade as she grows older, gaining wrinkles, grey hair and becoming feeble. Meanwhile, the tone can be described as caustic, or bitter. Some similarities still remain through the evolution of marketing merchandise, but many differences can be seen in more recent ads. The Palmolive soap company's advertisements from the 1900s exemplify the issue of sexism that took place in that time period. The ads primarily focus on the youth and beauty of women and how it appeals to men. The advertisement creators target the insecurities of women and threaten the achievement of being loved by a man. • 6. Gender Disadvantages And Advantage Of Older Women In... Evidence showed that in terms of marital status, labor force participation and educational attainment, older women are likely vulnerable than older men in Indonesia (Abikusno, 2007). Recent report showed that there was a significant gender differential in educational attainment among older people. It was reported that 39% older women had never been to school, and only 23% older men had not any education (UNFPA, 2014). Meanwhile, the majority of older women are not willing to married again after losing their spouse compare to older men. As the result, a higher proportion of older women tend to live alone: 14.6 percent women compared to 4.2 percent of men. Study showed that the primary source of funds for majority of older men came from work and business, while half of the older women revealed that their primary source of finance is from their children and children–in–law (Arifin, Braun & Hogervorst, 2012). It appears that economic dependency, along with diminished family support and lack of education, makes older women more vulnerable to ageing than older men. ... • 7. Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Analysis A Woman's Guideline to Life Do you ever wish that you were given instructions on how to live the right way? Jamaica Kincaid does exactly that in her short story, "Girl". "Always eat your food in such a way that it won't turn someone else's stomach–" (Kincaid 40). Jamaica Kincaid's story "Girl" gives off a powerful message of the demands women feel in today's society. The structure of Kincaid's story, captures the tone and reveals the great deal of expectations that individuals assume women should portray. From the very beginning of Kincaid's piece, the mother commands her daughter to perform tasks. The mother's reluctance to speak gently or even use the word "please" strongly suggests that the mother is in full and vast control of her daughter, just as society is. Kincaid's "Girl" allows readers a glance into the strict demeanor in which women and girls face in our culture. Depicted in the short story, beauty and behavior standards were ever so prevalent decades ago and continue to be a driving factor in today's culture. Today's society has many unrealistic beauty and behavior standards that are enforced upon women. The narrative in "Girl" is presented as a set of life instructions to a girl by her mother on how to live life properly. The mother figure in the story focuses on two main categories in her guidance: social manners and domesticity– which happen to be forced upon many girls till this day. A series of commands is listed from the mother to prevent her daughter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many females who pretend to be untroubled on social media so others will not view them as emotionally weak and unstable. "Specifically, [women] are misusing the social media tools given to them and creating false impressions of themselves that are fueling their own insecurities..." (Negroni Screen 2). People will scroll past the woman's picture and assume that the woman has glamourous life. In reality, they are unaware that the woman is pretending to be perfect. Every female is naturally born with flaws. If humanity showed recognition to the women who are satisfied with being themselves then, more women will feel content to accept who they are. The woman behind the picture is in distress. The artist is concerned with the number of women who are in despair but, portraying that they are fine. He painted this artwork to convince us that the women in social media are deceiving society, although they can not delude themselves. Archilles is incredibly knowledgeable, he is aware of the truth behind social media. He is not blinded by the fraud pictures that society wants everyone to see, but sees things for what they really are. He is convincing us to look past the pictures and realize that these women are hurting. The woman on the picturing who is suffering connects with the women in life who aren't happy with themselves and feel hopeless, drained, and emotionally dead. The artist is biased about which genders are suffering, both sex can me miserable and not show it. House On Mango Street Research Paper House on Mango Street Esperanza is an intelligent girl who has experienced many misfortunes and successes, that have impacted her for the better and the worse. Throughout the novel, Esperanza meets many people who are considered to be "stuck" in Mango Street. This was not apparent to her until one of the sisters, in the chapter titled The Three Sisters, said "You must remember to come back. For the ones who cannot leave as easily as you" (105). She recognizes herself as a part of society, so she feels the need to give back in order to break the poverty cycle and cycle of abuse for women. She needed to return for the people that were stuck on Mango Street. The most obvious reason she needs to return is that people she cares about are stuck in the cycle of abuse and in result have become very dependent on others. For example, Sally escaped an abusive father only to marry an abusive man. Her father would leave bruises on her and when she went to school she would tell people she fell down the stairs, but her friends knew that wasn't true (92). Her husband only lets her go outside with his permission, doesn't allow her to look out the window, took away her forms of communication, and no one is permitted to visit her. Another woman that was in a different but in a way similar situation was Minerva. In the chapter titled Minerva Writes Poetry, the author described Minerva's life. She is not much older then Esperanza, but she already has two kids and a husband who left (84). Her husband is her biggest problem because he left and keeps on leaving, which is really hard on Minerva. "She comes over black and blue and asks what can she do?" (85). What are you suppose to ... • 11. Misogyny In Whale Rider The film, Whale Rider, released in 2003 and directed by Niki Caro, is essentially about a young 12–year–old girl called Paikea who faces hardships whilst discovering who she truly is among cultural misogyny in a Maori tribe situated in New Zealand. Misogyny is the dislike and adamant prejudice of women by men and is usually caused unconsciously by a trigger from an obstructive encounter with women in the past. This was an issue in the film as traditionally, the chief roles were ascended upon the males, and if anyone challenged this practice, they would be disobeying the ancestors, thus being dubbed as 'disloyal'. The theme portrayed in my visual representation is Female role models and Misogyny as I believe that the Whale Rider describes what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Paikea image, I chose to use red during editing as the highlight to represent her passion and her strength to break down the barrier Koro has placed between them due to Koro's stubbornness in limiting the leadership role to a male. The pink is set as the shadow to express Pai's open–mindedness towards breaking the tradition of a male leader and instead assign a female for the leadership role. Therefore, this showcases the theme well due to the apparent misogyny Koro has on Pai becoming the next chief. The reason behind my choice of red as highlight and pink as the shadow is because you need passion in order to accomplish what you want to achieve. Open–mindedness only sets the motion, while passion completes it. Without passion, your ability is limited to only dreams. Another technique that is portrayed in my visual representation is the simile. 'Females can be strong as hell' I included this quote mainly for its blunt, but honest tone in illustrating the perseverance and resilience of women, such as when Paikea still participated in Koro's lessons with the boys secretly, despite being rejected by him initially due to Koro's belief that males shall only be elected as chief. This ties in well with the use of red and pink (as described before), to show that femininity and grace can co–exist with passion and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. A & P By John Updike Living in California we see women in swimsuits quite often, maybe too often. Still we have those people that find the need to objectify women, even the ones they have seen many times. Although that is what Sammy does in John Updike's "A&P". The way "A&P" depicts the young girls is objectifying: from how the main character describes the young women, how he disrespects the older lady he was checking out, the manager kicking the girls out of the store because of what they are wearing, and how the girls dress the way they do even though they are not close to the beach. Even after all the trouble women go through to look according to society's norms, people still catch every small thing that is not perfect to society. According to Lois Tyson, "she is objectified...defined only by her difference from male norms and values, defined by what she (allegedly) lacks..." (92). Women are unmistakably different from men biologically; so why is it such a shock when she has a small part of her skin showing, just because it is her breast or any other 'forbidden' areas? If a woman shows her butt cheeks it is disgraceful, but if a man shows his butt cheeks, it is hot. It is the same body part just of difference sexes, yet society has labeled it differently for each sex. Women objectification should not be seen as her fault, because like every woman around her, she is doing what she has to to stay comfortable. Sammy, the story's narrator and main character, notices the girls right away, and when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Society has created in their minds the way a woman is supposed to act and the things they are allowed to do. In Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl", we see a young woman being forced to live by the likeness of the society in which she dwells. Although this is not the life she wants to live, she has no other choice than to become the woman she was made to be. Throughout time the relationship between mothers and daughters have changed. Many mothers hold on to the "old fashioned" opinion of what a woman should be and many older women feel that a women's true role in life is to be domesticated. This idea of a woman's place in the home is being reinforced throughout Kincaid's short story. The mother in the story is telling her young daughter the ways things should be done. "Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the colored clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry." She further goes on to describe other household chores and how they should be correctly done. "This is how you sweep a corner." She tells her daughter how to set a table for different meals, how to cook things, and even how to pick out bread. Unfortunately, though, the story doesn't tell a woman how to have a successful career, to go to college, or how to work outside of the home. In those days' women were expected to stay at home while their husband's go out to work and make all the money. Even if they tried, they were not allowed to go outside the way society made them to be and this mother is trying to raise her young daughter the same way she was raised which is to be a house wife. Even though the girl says nothing in the story, she is building resentment towards her mother because she feels that she should be allowed to make her own decision on whether to be domesticated. Throughout the story never did the mother once stop to get her daughter's input on the issues, she just simply tells her daughter that she has no other choice but to be domesticated and there is no way of changing it. She tells the daughter how to act, how to dress, how to talk, and even how to walk. "Always eat your food in a way that it won't turn someone else's stomach...On Sundays try to walk like a lady and not like the slut that you are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of The Book ' Two And Three Things I Know For Sure ' In the book 'Two or Three things i know for sure', Dorothy Allison who tells her story growing up in a memoir and she uses her experiences to explain the two or The things she learned. What makes this her story stand out is not just that it 's a memoir but also because the main point is beauty and how women in her family were put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this whole book Dorothy tries to send out one important message on beauty which from my understanding beauty is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a woman 's beauty is determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy Dow Adams who read's 'Two or Three things i know for sure' writes his review on it, and his understanding of Dorothy Allison 's points of views. In pages 32 through 34 from the Book 'Two or Three things i know for sure' Dorothy includes an image of her family, more specifically the women in her family. Now in page 32 Dorothy explained that the women on her family were not considered beautiful stating, "the women of my family were measured, manlike, sexless, bearers of babies, burden and concept" (Pg.32) with that she incorporates the image of the women were she says that they look "exhausted", "old", "ugly" and she goes on to give a brief description of the type of clothing they were wearing and on their appearance where she say's "solid, stolid, widehipped baby machines. The choice in loss of muscular velocity seems to be voluntary due to the lack of strength training in older women. In order for muscles to strengthen, activation through endurance is necessary. The study done by Andre Gurjao, and his colleagues, suggest the use of strength training (ST) has a positive correlation on rate force development in women, specifically older women. Neuromuscular changes take affect on the power contributed within muscles that are accompanied with aging. • 17. Gender and Identity in Raymond Carver's so Much Water, so... Men are from Mars, women are from Venus. We've all heard the saying, but what does it mean? We are different, that goes without saying. As evidenced in Raymond Carver's "So Much Water, So Close to Home", men and women differ on many key issues of morality, perception, and judgment. The two do have something in common, believe it or not, and that is the expectation of the opposite gender to communicate, think, and react in the exact way they do. Hence, frustration. Not with themselves, God forbid the two ever see a situation from each other's point of view. The frustration is with the opposite gender, over something that for the most part, they cannot help. As we have seen time and time again and as Carver proves, it's in our blood. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men as a whole are known to be less compassionate and sensitive than women. The example used in the story is of course an extreme case– in reality even the most masculine of characters would not likely leave a dead body in the river close by for days and even wash their dishes next to it without calling on the proper authorities to help. What does it mean to be a woman? In "So Much Water, So Close to Home", the narrator Claire is portrayed as an average woman. She has a hard working husband and a young son. All of the women in the story, excluding the dead one, are shown as very compassionate people. They are sensitive and caring to the needs of other people, even to those they do not personally know. When Claire's husband Stuart returns home from his annual fishing trip, he tells her about how he and his friends found the woman's body in the river. Not before having a cold beer, sex with Claire, and a good night's sleep, however. Claire cannot comprehend how in the world her husband could have done this. The fact that Stuart had found a body and waited several days to report it is bad enough, but for him to come home and carry on as if it had never happened is unimaginable to Claire. She even considers the possibility that it was her husband who raped and killed the innocent young woman. She later realizes, however, that her husband did not commit that particular crime. Claire thinks that her husband's inaction was a crime in itself. Claire sees this inability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spears, along with her colleagues Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore and many others, are ever present on the "Top 40," make frequent appearances on MTV, and can often be found on magazine covers and in photo spreads. Spears is especially popular among pre–teen girls, who buy her records, singing and dancing along to the lyrics. These lyrics often deal with love, lust, and sex–topics some consider too mature for the young girls targeted by Spears' marketing. Young women today are maturing at increasingly earlier ages, and the sexual messages in Spears' songs may simply be satisfying an existing demand for these types of songs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When speaking about early pop music songs, she explains "although they were mass–produced they were individually interpreted. The songs were ours–but the were also everyone else's...we found solidarity as girls" (499). This certainly holds true for Spears' songs. Spears is often criticized for having mass–produced songs that someone else wrote for her. However, these songs have mass appeal which Douglas considers a strength. Pre–teen girls, in the midst of forging an identity among their peers can certainly find solidarity by singing out the words to "Hit Me Baby One More Time" together. At the very least, Spears' music will serve to unite women twenty years from now who will still know all the words to the catchy tunes as they play over the oldies radio station. At the same time, depending on each girl's individual knowledge and experience, the songs will be interpreted differently. The lyrics give voice to a range of emotions that girls may have and be unable to express otherwise. Another positive quality of pop music is that it can give conflicting emotions a voice, something that can aid in the process of growing up. As Douglas put it, girl groups "gave voice to all the warring selves inside us struggling, blindly and with a crushing sense of insecurity, to forge something resembling a coherent identity...girl group music let us try on and act out a host of ... Older women who were never married tend to better off financially because of their commitment to the labour force throughout their adult years. With a greater number of years working they are able to collect higher Canadian/Quebec Pension payments (Davies & Denton, 2002). Widows tend to be worse off financially than those who were never married, but better off than those who were separated or divorced in mid and later years. This difference is because a widow can benefit from the assets left behind by their husband, as well as receives C/QPP payments (Davies & Denton, 2002). According to Davies & Denton (2002), a woman who is married may rely on her husband's financial resources for security later in life. As such, she may not do any retirement planning of her own. • 20. The House On Mango Street Rhetorical Analysis As Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for females, once said, "I raise up my voice– not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back." Malala is advocating for young females, giving them a voice that they may not have. She is demonstrating how being a female should be liberating, and women should not feel held back by their gender. In The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros speaks of a similar idea. As Malala indicates, Cisneros also indicates how being a woman can be empowering; however, Cisneros also establishes how being a woman raised in a marginalized community can have adverse mental and physical repercussions. Through countless stories and the motif of women sitting by windows, Cisneros ratifies how draining it is to be an average woman in Esperanza's community. In The House on Mango Street, women by windows depict women trapped by their families, specifically their husbands, maturing into a disturbing image that portrays the failure to be an individual that makes her own decisions. In the vignette "Rafaela Who Drinks Coconut and Papaya Juice on Tuesdays," the author tells of a woman who is "too beautiful to look at," saying, "Rafaela who ... wishes there were sweeter drinks, not bitter like an empty room, but sweet sweet like the island, like the dance hall down the street where women much older than her throw green eyes easily like dice and open homes with keys" (Cisneros 80). Rafaela is yearning to be able to leave her home like the women she envies. She compares the bitterness of her fruit drinks to the desolation and seclusion of the house, and wishes the drinks were sweeter, expressing her looking out the window and longing for something more in life, like the fortunate few women in her community have. A character Esperanza knows named Sally has received abuse from her father, and when she gets married, Esperanza says, "She says she is in love, but I think she did it to escape" (Cisneros 101) and, "She sits at home because she is afraid to go outside without his permission" (Cisneros 102). Reflections Of Older Iranian Women Summary Dealing With the Move from Iran In the article, "Reflections of Older Iranian Women," Jasmin McConatha, Paul Stoller, and Fereshte Oboudiat find that there are three ways in which older Iranian women adapt to moving to a new country. The women are either withdrawn, insular, or assimilative. Although the grandmother from the story, "Mother the Big," is more aggressive, strict, and overbearing than the "withdrawn" women, she relates to them in the way of not wanting anything to do with the US. In the story, "Mother the Big," a grandson with a harsh grandmother tells of his life growing up with his Iranian grandmother who does not want him to have anything to do with America. The grandmother makes him wear a helmet to bed every night, tells him that American women are horrible creatures, and instead of letting him speak, talks about why Iran is superior to America. A&P is about a teenager and his lust for young ladies and Araby is about a young boy who had a crush on a older girl. I will be comparing and contrasting the portrayal of women, love and epiphany in the two short stories A&P and Araby. I believewomen are portrayed negatively in A&P. I have came to this conclusion because I believe Sammy treats the "Queenie" positively but treats the other two females negatively. Sammy decision to quit was not justified due to the girls not being there to praise and love him for being so brave to quit his job for them and the fact that he made such a major decision for people who he did not even know is stupid. Now he does not have a job nor the young ladies. I believe women are portrayed positively in Araby. I have come to this conclusion because of how much the littleboy values this girl and his efforts to impress her. For example, each morning before school, he he camps by the window to see when she heads out to go to school. he leaves out when she does and follows her to the school. They part ways once she reaches her school but he ensures that she sees him, hoping that she would notice him. His crush confronted him for the first time to ask him if he was going to Araby. Analysis Of The Essential Metamorphoses And Goose Food Ovid's epic "The Essential Metamorphoses" and Ghandl's poem "Goose food" present similar visions of women, and the writers show that men might not actually be superior, compared to women as they are often portrayed in myth. Moreover, in Ovid, there are numerous myths told, but in most of them, there is a recurrent theme of misogyny, and in the first myth of the epic – called "Origin of the World"–, on top of just describing the creation of the world, it is mentioned that man was first to be created and woman was made second. This could be because of numerous reasons; for example, Ovid could have been jealous that it was actually woman that was created first or maybe Ovid wanted to follow what the rest of society believed in order to be able to gain the trust of the readers so that he could then be able to put unrealistic views and that when reading the epic, the reader becomes skeptical of what seems so true to him at first and that maybe the whole principal of man being at the center of attention is not a true fact. • 36. Misogyny In The Wife Of Bath Misogyny is not only visible in the Miller's tale, but also in the Wife of Bath's tale through the very superficial standards set for women by men. The old woman asks that the knight marries her in return for giving him the answer to the riddle and he reacts in disgust and horror, "'...to take me as your wife...'Alas and woe is me!...I am ugly and poor...my damnation! Alas, that any of my birth should ever be so foully disgraced!" (Chaucer, "The Wife of Bath's Tale," 199–213). The knight is visibly distraught, using words such as "damnation" and "disgraced" when the old woman expresses her wish to marry him. He displays these emotions not because she wants to get married, but because she is ugly and poor. He is worried because an ugly wife will mar his reputation and is a poor reflection of him. This translates to the misogynistic society during the time period where women were seen as property to be shown off, rather than people who deserved respect. The recurring theme of misogyny in these two tales shows that Chaucer does not feel sympathy for the opposite gender, but instead belittles their plight. In both tales, each woman is judged based on her attractiveness, they are both surrendered to the unfair and superficial beauty standards of the age Chaucer lived in. The women are negatively portrayed based on the attributes they display. The old woman is ugly and poor and therefore is seen as a woman unfit to be a wife. The reaction of the knight when he finds out that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Female Role Models In Esperanza's Life On Mango Street "And the thought of the mayor coming to Mango Street makes me laugh out loud. Who's going to do it? Not the mayor," (Cisneros 107). Esperanza has a variety of different female role models. All of her role models contribute to their life on Mango Street in a variety of ways. Some are stuck in life, but have good memories for Esperanza to look up to. Others are rough around the edges but Esperanza's interest in rebels makes them her role models. Many of these women are highly motivated to do what they want in life; this exists as the main reason for Esperanza looking up to these rather odd women. Esperanza has many female role models, many are trapped in abusive relationships, some are trying to change things by themselves, and Cisneros explores their power within. Many of Esperanza's woman role models are trapped in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alicia is one of Esperanza's role models who does not have much support in life, thus they have to change things on their own. Alicia's feeling are felt by readers through passages, "Alicia, whose mama died, is sorry there is no one older to rise and make lunchbox tortillas," (Cisneros 31). This narration truly expresses Alicia's struggles and the amount of support behind her. Sally is another role model Esperanza has. Sally does not have much support either, "Sally do you sometimes wish that you didn't have to go home? Do you wish your feet would keep walking and take you far away from Mango Street?" (Cisneros 82). Sally's lack of support from those who love her causes her to be motivated to leave Mango Street as soon as possible. Esperanza looks up to these ladies for a large amount of reasons. Esperanza wants to be successful in life, so talking to these women about their dreams causes Esperanza to think highly of them. Esperanza has shown through all her vignettes that she is a highly determined person. Esperanza's role models come in all shapes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Birth Of Older Women Essay For the mother, babies can make them feel and appear younger. In the early to mid–twenties is when a woman will have the most energy but are much less likely than a woman over 35 to be financially stable, be established in their work life and have the resources to look after and care for a baby. Older women will also have more life experience and maturity to draw on in rearing a child and looking after a baby. Younger mothers are known to sometimes feel resentful at having to postpone their jobs to look after a baby but older mothers are usually wanting and ready for a baby so unlikely to feel that same resentment. Also younger women tend to worry a lot more about their body image at that age as well as focussing on jobs or marriage and adding a baby into the mix can just be too much. An older woman is likely to be more stable in a relationship and therefore more likely to deal well with the changes that parenthood brings. Older women will have had many more years to think over what a baby will mean and are more likely than a younger woman to be emotionally ready to have a child. The older one is, the more mature and patient one will be with a child, in theory. Younger mothers, very young that is, find it hard in today's society as it is not generally geared towards helping mothers in or barely out of school. John Mirowsky, a sociologist at the University of Texas, wrote that for ages 20 and younger "pregnancy is more likely to happen out of wedlock, more likely to interfere ... • 39. Kim Kardashian Stereotypes There isn't one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The Kardashians is known for her "perfect hour glass figure" with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger–than–average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is regarded as many for having the perfect body, and other women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in order to achieve the same vanity appeal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and commentators bash her constantly because she doesn't fit their mold of the "it–girl". Other reality television show stars also find it difficult staying on top. Shows produced by VH1 and Bravo like Love and Hip–Hop, Real Housewives of Atlanta and Beverly Hills, and even Botched. Documents how women more so than men, use cosmetic surgery to enhance their body so that they fit in with the celebrity Hollywood culture. On Love and Hip–Hop, most of the cast members are of native ethnic descent (being African–American/Black, Caribbean, Latino/Hispanic). Therefore beauty is even more stigmatized, in my opinion, from the communities that these women are either from or are idolized by. Women in the Black community are known to have big butts, fuller breasts, thick thighs and lovely curves. That's a lot to live up to if you didn't get it from your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
