1. SYNTH-POP
Synth-pop originated mainlyfrom the United States and the United
Kingdom. Clearlyshown by the name, it features the synthesizer as the
dominantmusical instrument. Synthesizers were first used in pop music in
the 1960sbutit wasn’t until the mid-1970sthatit became really popular
and developed into its own genre. Someof the earliest and most
recognised artists of synth-pop were: Kraftwerk, Duran Duran,Ultravox and
New Order. Duran Duran wereand are still highly recognised for their synth
pop music.
Someiconic songs fall into the synth-pop genre including; “I ran (so far
away” by A Flockof Seagulls (1982) and “Takeon me” by a-ha (1985). A-
ha’s iconic song managed to get number 2 in the UK and number 1 in the
US.
