3. DJ Kool Herc, recognized as one of the earliest hip hop artists. He extended an
instrumental beat (breaking or scratching) to let people dance longer (break dancing)
and began MC’ing (rapping) during the extended breakdancing. He gave a new era to
the hip hop music.
4. HIP HOP IN THE 70s AND 80s
In 1979 a hip hop single called Rapper Delight by the Sugarhill Gang was
released and became the top ten world wide
After this success, many other hip hop records were released such as Kurtis
blow’s the breaks and African bambaataa’s planet rock- these were mainly
about having fun.
In 1982, an early example of socially-conscious hip hop was released, which
is Grandmaster flash and the furious five released
This was about social issues like poverty and crime.

5. HIP HOP GOLDEN AGE
In the mid 80’s, rapper like LL cool J, created hip hop singles with catchy
melodic hooks.
By the late 80’s many hip hop beats were being made in a studio with drums
machines, synthesizers.
Eric B. & Rakim released paid in full, it was one of the finest hip hop albums.
Late 80’s political hip hop was developed.
6. HIP HOP IN THE 90’s
The styles and sounds shifted tremendously from that of the 80s and some
of the biggest names in the genre emerged as, not just superstars, but
legends.
It was a decade for the hip hop music, many hit songs were released by the
famous artists such as: - Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz- Déjà vu

7. Hip hop in the 21st century
Hip hop became a major genre of music
Hip hop singles and albums were topping the charts world wide.
Hip hop has had a strong influence on 21st century teenagers which
encouraged the singers and rappers to collaborate with one another to
