3. For my film the specific cast I will need is as follows:
-A female aged 40-50 to play the protagonist, Steph.I have a
potential actor in mind for this role (Linda Pine) who I have
approached but am waiting to hear back from.
-A female aged 50-55, to play the other character, Julie.I also
have approached an actor for this role (Jackie Reynolds) and am
waiting to hear back.
There are no specific appearance requirements for these actors but
they would need to have a different hair colors in order to create
a clear contrast between their characters.
-A male of any age to play the antagonist. Again, I have
approached an actor for this role (Steven Reynolds) but am waiting
to hear back.
-A male aged 40-50 to play the colleague at the beginning and the
end.
These characters could be played by the same actor as the
antagonist's face is always hidden. This would save time looking
for more than one cast member and make filming easier.
CAST REQUIREMENTS
4. ANY CREW NEEDED
I will film and direct my film entirely and locate
all costumes and props. However, there are crew
members that I will need to enable me to complete my
film safely and to a good standard.
As I will be filming mostly in a cellar where there
could be many risks involved, I will not only need
responsible adults on site at all times but
potentially a qualified health and safety expert.
Additionally, it may be beneficial to have crew to
hold any lights in certain places or to generally
assist production.
5. FILM BUDGETSome items of costume that I will need for my film include
office wear for the female leads and black jeans and
jacket/jumper/hoodie for the antagonist.I will attempt to
buy all of the clothing from charity stores or borrow the
items from family and friends. This should reduce my
spending significantly instead of buying all new clothing.
As part of costumes I will need regular makeup and
potentially sfx makeup to make some aspects more realistic
such as making Julie look tired and weak.
There are also a few props that I will need for my film. I
plan to use a fake needle prop for my film which are easy
to get hold of from places such as Amazon and costume
shops. Additionally, there are some items such as a photo
frame and a torch that I will need but will be able to find
these at home or from friends to borrow.
Based on most of this the budget would be no more than £50
as I may end up buying new clothes but shouldn't need to.
6. LEGAL AND ETHICAL
MY FILMED FOOTAGE I own this footage and if I decide that I don't wish anyone else to use the footage
in the future, I could copyright it so that others would have to ask my permission
before using the footage. Additionally, before using my footage myself, I must
ensure I have gained permission from all my actors to use the footage and made
sure they understand where the footage will be used and available.
STUDIO TITLE LOGO
SEQUENCE
It is likely that I will design and make these logos and titles myself. However, if I
am unable to design them myself or decide to use an already existing studio title
and logo, I will have to ensure that it is not trademarked or ask permission to use
it.
ANY VIDEO FOOTAGE
OR PHOTOS FOUND
ONLINE
If using any video footage and photos found online I will ensure that they are
either royalty and copyright free or ensure I have gained permission through
payment or simply contacting the owner of the footage/photo. It would most
likely be beneficial for me to make the owner completely aware and
understanding of how and where I will use their footage or photo.
7. SOUND AND SPECIAL
EFFECTS
There are many royalty free websites where I can find sound and
special effects for my film. Despite this, I will always completely
ensure that the effects are copyright free and if not I will never use
an effect without gaining permission from the owner. I will make
sure the owner understands how the effects will be used and
where I plan to distribute my film.
MUSIC It is likely that any music I decide to use in my film will be found from royalty free
websites such as https://www.bensound.com/. I will always ensure that I am
following all laws surrounding using music found online. I may ask permission
from the owner of a piece of copyrighted music if I decide it suits my film.
LOCATION I will gain permission from the owner of the location that I plan to use before
filming any footage or making any plans. If I cannot gain permission from this
ideal location I will ensure I have another location option. I will explain to the
owner of the location what and how I will be using their property for my film and
ensure they understand where this footage will be available online.
8. FILM CERTIFICATE The BBFC are responsible for the classification and censorship of films within the
UK. My film would have a film certificate of 15 as is similar with most horror films.
This is due to the mature, potentially upsetting and sometimes violent content.
To comply with the regulations for a 15 film certificate, the violence within the
film must not dwell on pain or injury too much and strong gory scenes are
generally unacceptable. I will ensure that any violent scenes within my film are
not focused on too much and do not contain overly gory images.
The BBFC also state that any dangerous behaviour within a 15 certificate film
should not be detailed enough to be copied. I will ensure that any behaviour that
could be considered dangerous is not shown in detail.
9. CONTENT There are some aspects of my film that may upset viewers such as
the idea of Julie being trapped by someone for years. This is a
realistic event and in order to warn viewers of this potentially
upsetting content, I will include a trigger warning at the beginning
of the film.
SHOWING MY FILM
ONLINE
There are a few rules that www.shortoftheweek.com have for submitting films
to their site. They require any film to have all necessary rights secured to be
displayed on their site. As displayed earlier in the report, I will have ensured I
have gained all rights and permission for any music, footage, images and other
aspects used in my film. Additionally, they require films to be 40 minutes or
less, preferring films on the shorter side. This will not be a problem for my film
as I plan for it to have a running time of 5-10 minutes.
