PRODUCTION PLAN
ENIGMA
REVISED KEY SCENE MATERIALS
I have revised my key scene materials and will ensure that now, after looking at my feedback I will make sure I
include a more prominent switch to reality, adding a clear twist so the audience understands the plot clearer, by
perhaps signposting the idea of clones, instead of the audience thinking it’s a ghost etc.
LAUNCH DATES
The launch date of my film will be 22nd March 2019. This is a significant time of the year to release my film, as
most big blockbuster movies are released either before Christmas, or at the start of each season etc, depending
on the type of film. EG. ‘Hop’ the movie, released in time for Easter. As a result of this, my movie will not
necessarily have any big competitors, therefore my target audience will be more likely to go and watch my film
instead of something else.
My launch date is also significant because it means that is released just before the cold period of the weather
ends, and this is important because it is going to have a ‘gloomy’ setting therefore wouldn’t be relatable or fit in
the summer period.
Nothing clashes with my launch date and therefore all of the focus from my target audience on the launch date
will be towards my film.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
I have a contingency plan set up in case anything during the filming or editing process goes wrong or needs to
be changed.
If the location is unable to be used at the time of shooting, I have another similar location set up and nearby that
all of the actors and actresses can get transport to as well.
If any actors or actresses are unwell, I have planned for rescheduling dates also. This means I can still have the
actors and actresses that are fit for the roles, and still keeping in the time frame.
If anything goes wrong in the editing process, I have the software at my home and school in able to get the
editing done if time is an issue, or if anything is deleted, I will ensure this is backed up on all my electronic
devices, therefore I will not lose any important footage.
EQUIPMENT LIST
I will get all of my equipment from friends, shops, home or school. I will either hire out the equipment I need or buy it from a local store- such as for the costume I
will buy a fisherman’s outfit from a local store. I will use the lights, camera and tripod from home and use the school for any facilities or for any other equipment I
may not have.

CAST AND CREW

Within my film, there will be 1 main character, the adult male who will be playing a
fisherman, with a slight grey beard and dressed in fisherman clothes, named George.
He will be played by my dad, who is a good representation to the character I have
described.
I have chosen my dad to play this role, as not only does he fit the character
description, I feel as if the attack scene with him falling into the lake is perfect for him
to act, as he is confident and definitely excited to play this role.
It also means that as the director of the filming process, I will be able to tell him easily
exactly what I want and what I am looking for. It also means that he is easily
accessible as I know his schedule and easy to book in a day when he is free, without
having to negotiate with other actors. It also means I do not have to pay any actors,
therefore keeping in with my budget as I am spending the money leftover from this for
props.
To have my dad as an actor also means that my home where we both live will be able
to be used, which I think is an ideal setting for the home shots.

The other characters I will be using is the Wife of George, who will be played by my mum,
therefore the relationship between my two parents will be easy to relate to the relationship
within my film, as they’re playing the same roles.
In my opinion, this is exactly who I imagined to play the wife of George, not only from the
description, but the quieter and therefore more mysterious vibe the audience will gain from
her within the film when speaking to George, especially at the end of the film.
Once again, it means that she will be easily accessible as I know her schedule and easy to
book in a day when she is free, without having to negotiate with other actresses.
It also means I do not have to pay any actresses, therefore keeping in with my budget as I
am spending the money left over from this for props.
To have my mum as an actress also means that my home where we both live will be able to
be used, which I think is an ideal setting for the home shots.

The other character that will be shown in my film is a
Police officer. He will be played by a friend, and is also
an adult male.
I have chosen this person because he is able to take
directions easily, and as a director I have taken this
into account.
He also speaks clearly and confidently, therefore
perfect as a role in authority for this part of the film.
I will not need to pay him as an actor, as he is doing
this off good will, therefore my cast and crew do not
affect my budget.
BUDGET
In order to produce my film, there will be a few things that will affect my budget. I have put my budget at £50 to cover
everything I need.
Firstly, the cast and crew members will not affect my budget in any way and therefore I am able to spend the money that I
would have spent on other things that will ensure my film is up to a high standard.
The costume and props will cost the most within the production process, as I will need to buy fisherman outfits and
equipment which I don’t already have as I, or anybody I know doesn’t do this as a hobby. I still want to use this equipment
and costume as I want my film to look as realistic and believable as possible, therefore I am willing to spend my budget
money on this.
For the location of my film, I will be using a lake that is a public place, and therefore I do not need to pay/donate money to
use this setting. The other location I will be using is my home, therefore I do not need to pay any money for the use of my
locations, and they are both extremely accessible to me.
The equipment for my film, such as the camera, tripod and lights I already have or will borrow from school, therefore they
are free of charge and I have these already accessible to me.
Refreshments such as food, drink and other clothes for the characters will be needed on production day, as I want my cast
and crew members to feel at home, comfortable and happy to be a part of my film.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 1: YOUR FILMED FOOTAGE
As the director, I own all footage rights to my film, therefore I should copyright my film footage so nobody will be able to take
my footage for their own. I have asked permission from all of my actors and actresses, and they are all above 18, therefore
I do not need to get any parental consent from anyone involved.
All of my actors and actresses know the locations where they will be filmed.
LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 2: STUDIO TITLE LOGO SEQUENCE
‘Magic Lantern Productions’ is the studio name. The name has come from an old projector, which enabled people to view
glass slides through a projector onto the wall, which I thought linked well with media and the projection of light. It will have a
lantern as a logo, which will therefore be the trademark that everybody recognises. The studio logo/ title will also need to be
copyrighted, as this is what the audience will relate to the studio, therefore cannot be the same as any other company. The
audience will be able to recognise this studio logo when it is shown on my film.

LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 3: ADDITIONAL VIDEO FOOTAGE FOUND ONLINE
Additional footage found online will be taken either from YouTube/ film websites. I will have to research to see whether it is
copyright free or not, and if not, I will write and try and gain permission off the companies/people who own them. This additional
footage will be able to give dramatic effect towards the audience and create a new setting/flashback etc for the audience to be
intrigued with.
LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 4: SPECIAL EFFECTS
The special effects used will be from websites/ found on the software ‘Adobe After Effects’, which I will use one of the special
effects from there. All rights will be owned by them, and therefore I will have to give credit to the companies/people/websites
that I get them from. It will ensure the audience is more intrigued and has something more exciting to watch by adding
something different to a normal short film.
LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 5: SOUND EFFECTS/ MUSICAL SCORE
The sound effects and musical score will be owned by a website called ‘Free Sound’. This is because this is a copyright free
music website, which allows the music to be played during my film free of charge. This means I will keep to my budget even
more so, as this is free of charge and as a result is easy for me and fantastic to listen to for the audience as it creates more
effect.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 1: THE CERTIFICATE
I would rate my short film a PG. This is because although it won’t include swearing or horrifyingly offensive footage, it may have
scenes that will affect younger children, such as the murder/attack scene however it will not include gory blood, cuts and graphic
bruising, it will just be subtle, therefore parental guidance will ensure children do not get effected. The British Board of Film
Classification (BBFC), is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1912, and is responsible for the national classification and
censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and video works. This means it is in charge to make sure everything shown on platforms
such as television programmes, trailers, adverts, public Information/campaigning films etc, has the correct legal requirement age
for everybody who watches it and therefore is suitable for the audience. It has a legal requirement to classify all video works
released on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and video games.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 2: CONTENT CONSIDERATIONS
There will not be anything that is highly offensive to the audience, however the attack scene at the lake may affect someone who
has bad experiences with water etc. I have made sure this is still fit for the target audience as it will not be throughout the whole
film and will also not be extremely detailed or graphic. If anybody is offended by this, it has got a PG rating on the film, therefore
it is under their own risk and their parental guidance.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 3: WHERE IT WOULD BE SEEN ONLINE
‘Short of the Week’ has a couple of guidelines before uploading films to the website.
Length: Films need to be 40 minutes or less. We prefer most films sit on the shorter end of that spectrum—the average film
we feature is 10 minutes. The longer your film (over 15 minutes), the tougher judges we tend to be.
Premiere Status: No premiere status is required; however, we give preference to films that haven’t yet premiered online. So,
don’t wait to submit your film.
Rights: We require films to have all necessary rights and releases secured for us to feature them. Yes, this includes music.
Free to View: We only select films that are free for audiences. If my film doesn’t fit these guidelines, it will be taken down
from the website and therefore cannot reach my target audience.

The costume and props will cost the most within the production process, as I will need to buy fisherman outfits and equipment which I don’t already have as I, or anybody I know doesn’t do this as a hobby. I still want to use this equipment and costume as I want my film to look as realistic and believable as possible, therefore I am willing to spend my budget money on this. For the location of my film, I will be using a lake that is a public place, and therefore I do not need to pay/donate money to use this setting. The other location I will be using is my home, therefore I do not need to pay any money for the use of my locations, and they are both extremely accessible to me. The equipment for my film, such as the camera, tripod and lights I already have or will borrow from school, therefore they are free of charge and I have these already accessible to me. Refreshments such as food, drink and other clothes for the characters will be needed on production day, as I want my cast and crew members to feel at home, comfortable and happy to be a part of my film.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 1: YOUR FILMED FOOTAGE As the director, I own all footage rights to my film, therefore I should copyright my film footage so nobody will be able to take my footage for their own. I have asked permission from all of my actors and actresses, and they are all above 18, therefore I do not need to get any parental consent from anyone involved. All of my actors and actresses know the locations where they will be filmed. LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 2: STUDIO TITLE LOGO SEQUENCE ‘Magic Lantern Productions’ is the studio name. The name has come from an old projector, which enabled people to view glass slides through a projector onto the wall, which I thought linked well with media and the projection of light. It will have a lantern as a logo, which will therefore be the trademark that everybody recognises. The studio logo/ title will also need to be copyrighted, as this is what the audience will relate to the studio, therefore cannot be the same as any other company. The audience will be able to recognise this studio logo when it is shown on my film.
  • 14. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 3: ADDITIONAL VIDEO FOOTAGE FOUND ONLINE Additional footage found online will be taken either from YouTube/ film websites. I will have to research to see whether it is copyright free or not, and if not, I will write and try and gain permission off the companies/people who own them. This additional footage will be able to give dramatic effect towards the audience and create a new setting/flashback etc for the audience to be intrigued with. LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 4: SPECIAL EFFECTS The special effects used will be from websites/ found on the software ‘Adobe After Effects’, which I will use one of the special effects from there. All rights will be owned by them, and therefore I will have to give credit to the companies/people/websites that I get them from. It will ensure the audience is more intrigued and has something more exciting to watch by adding something different to a normal short film. LEGAL CONSIDERATION NUMBER 5: SOUND EFFECTS/ MUSICAL SCORE The sound effects and musical score will be owned by a website called ‘Free Sound’. This is because this is a copyright free music website, which allows the music to be played during my film free of charge. This means I will keep to my budget even more so, as this is free of charge and as a result is easy for me and fantastic to listen to for the audience as it creates more effect.
  • 15. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 1: THE CERTIFICATE I would rate my short film a PG. This is because although it won’t include swearing or horrifyingly offensive footage, it may have scenes that will affect younger children, such as the murder/attack scene however it will not include gory blood, cuts and graphic bruising, it will just be subtle, therefore parental guidance will ensure children do not get effected. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1912, and is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and video works. This means it is in charge to make sure everything shown on platforms such as television programmes, trailers, adverts, public Information/campaigning films etc, has the correct legal requirement age for everybody who watches it and therefore is suitable for the audience. It has a legal requirement to classify all video works released on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and video games. ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 2: CONTENT CONSIDERATIONS There will not be anything that is highly offensive to the audience, however the attack scene at the lake may affect someone who has bad experiences with water etc. I have made sure this is still fit for the target audience as it will not be throughout the whole film and will also not be extremely detailed or graphic. If anybody is offended by this, it has got a PG rating on the film, therefore it is under their own risk and their parental guidance.
  • 16. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS ETHICAL CONSIDERATION 3: WHERE IT WOULD BE SEEN ONLINE ‘Short of the Week’ has a couple of guidelines before uploading films to the website. Length: Films need to be 40 minutes or less. We prefer most films sit on the shorter end of that spectrum—the average film we feature is 10 minutes. The longer your film (over 15 minutes), the tougher judges we tend to be. Premiere Status: No premiere status is required; however, we give preference to films that haven’t yet premiered online. So, don’t wait to submit your film. Rights: We require films to have all necessary rights and releases secured for us to feature them. Yes, this includes music. Free to View: We only select films that are free for audiences. If my film doesn’t fit these guidelines, it will be taken down from the website and therefore cannot reach my target audience.
