Pugetopolis Case Study
1. Pugetopolis is the region in Washington state which is the Puget Sound region in the Pacific
Northwest coastal area. Pugetopolis has nine counties. King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Kitsap being
the four largest and most populated. Pugetopolis has two large ports, the Port of Tacoma and Port of
Seattle. As Pugetopolis grew, its population and industries have also grown and has become a harbor
with a metropolitan area with approximately 3.5 million people. Pugetopolis has changed
dramatically over the years, it has become home to many big companies such Amazon and
Microsoft and the population continues to grow each year.
2. According to the author because of the hyper–growth of Pugetopolis, it has become hard for the
middle class and working families to live. Housing prices and cost of living has raised rapidly. There
has been harm to the environment especially pollution to the Puget sound. Toxic runoff to the Puget
Sound has led to a loss of habitat and has impacted the marine life. Pollution from storm water
contaminates which kills fish and other world life across the Puget sound. Puget Sound has
unhealthy levels toxic chemicals and PCB's, deforestation and as the population and the economy
continue to grow these problems will eventually become worse.
3. A negative issue that the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author mentioned that the level of toxic water run off to the lakes is affecting the habitat in the
water. Puget Sound water is becoming more acidic and dangerous to the marine life. One solution I
have is to create toxic clean programs that are available and accessible in all areas of this region.
This would cost the state money but it would be benefiting to everyone including the marine life.
People living here can also prevent storm water pollution by disposing of their household hazardous
wastes correctly such as pesticides, garden chemicals. Also by using nontoxic dish soap at and other
eco–friendly products at home littering, picking up animal waste and not

Raleigh Hills Stereotypes
Raleigh Hills is a small suburb just within Portland city limits, in the southwest hills of Washington
County, though many often mistake it for being within Beaverton. Housing a population of 5,896
people as of the 2010 census, the vast majority of the population is composed of either married
couples (50.8%), non–families (39.6%), or individuals (33.4%). So, in this way it deviates from the
general vision of the suburbs being moreso oriented towards families with children, but in my little
cul–de–sac, such a stereotype is perpetuated. Well, there's at least one family with children in the
neighborhood, due to the fact that I'll often see a particular group of boys walking down the street.
The neighborhood was named after one of Washington county's ... Show more content on

Yes, there are a few local businesses in the area, but very few are worth mentioning, at least by
Portland's standards. There's a McMenamins bar and a highly acclaimed lumber supply store, but
otherwise, it's either chains or shady storefronts. What I find so funny about my neighborhood is
how desperately they try to be like Portland, or the "mainland" as I like to call it. But alas, it is
merely a subsidiary, its own entity, despite what any of the zoning codes may state. Most people
when in the area are there because they're obligated to; they need to run errands, pick up their kids
from school or it's on their way to work. In short, it's hardly a destination, it's not trendy. There are
no swanky hangouts or coffee shops. Everyone who lives here keeps to themselves and goes about
their day, which does have its benefits. For instance, I personally like feeling a sense of solitude
when I'm at home, and this is definitely provided for me in my pseudo cul–de–sac. I can play my
music as loud as I want with no complaints, other than those who actually live in my house. I don't
fear someone looking in on me whilst relaxing in my rumpled PJ's, my greasy hair pulled into a bun
too messy to be perceived as "cute." I am able to reflect in the peace that I so often crave. I have a

Figure 3 shows that non–ELL students outperform ELL students by approximately 23% points
(FLDOE EdStats, 2017). Trends of the graphs in Figure 3 also show that the achievement gap
between ELL and non–ELL students has increased over the past three school years. Data pulled
from Performance Matters shows that 13% or 46 students taking the Algebra 1 End of Course exam

The professional development taught "the importance of language acquisition, building background
knowledge, increasing student language production, and explicitly teaching academic language
(Robertson, 2012, p.5)".
The research was performed by Jose Vidot to examine the effectiveness of SIOP implementation in a
Washington state high school (2011). The school was 93.1% Hispanic, and 93.7% of students
received free or reduced lunch. Before the implementation of SIOP, only 4.8% of tenth graders were
proficient on the Washington State math exam in 2008–2009 (Vidot, 2011). After a year of
implementation, 32.8% of tenth graders were proficient on the 2009–2010 Washington state math
exam. Further qualitative analysis showed that the students of teachers who had previous experience
with and positive views of the SIOP program outperformed their peers who had teachers with less
experience or negative views of the SIOP program (Vidot, 2011).
Though SIOP professional development was once offered regularly by the St. Lucie County School
District, the training has not been offered officially by the district for many years. It is recommended
that the school first reach out to the district to see if professional development for SIOP or another
ELL instructional strategy program could be offered on select days to all teachers. If that is not
possible, Robertson offers advice for explicitly teaching academic vocabulary.

Sexual Metaphors In Matthew Fraser's Speech At Bethel High...
On April 26, 1983, Matthew Fraser, a student at Bethel High School in Pierce County, Washington,
delivered a speech nominating a fellow student for elective office. There were six hundred high
school students there, most of them the age of 14. The assembly was a part of the educational
program in self–government that the school sponsored. During the entire speech Mathew referred to
his candidate using sexual metaphors. "Elaborate, graphic, and explicit sexual metaphor." Two of his
teachers had read over his speech and told him it was "inappropriate and that he probably should not
deliver it." A school counselor watched other kid's reactions as he gave the speech. Some of the
students "hooted and yelled' others were bewildered and embarrassed.

Chief Seattle Essay
Chief Seattle
When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the
heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and
scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American
government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it
belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many Indian
leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people.
Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief

Seattle moved to Port Madison Reservation and lived in Old Man House, just across from
Bainbridge Island; "This was a community house measuring some 60' x 900' feet easily the largest
Indian made wooden structure in the region". (4) When settlers first came to America they were
meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer needed Indian
help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of the aspects that the
settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their religion. Influenced by
missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father
Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name "Noah". One of the major
differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there
is one book, I'm sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old
Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of scriptures before the coming of
Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These
scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no
room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in structure. In the Indian religion
everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this everything is passed down from chief

Misconduct Case Study
As there is a lot of cases, prosecutor has to conduct, there ought to be some misconduct in some
progress. "A Tacoma man convicted of child rape and molestation two years ago did not receive a
fair trial because a Pierce County deputy prosecutor committed misconduct during closing
arguments, the Washington Court of Appeals has ruled." Freeing a guilty man because of
misconducting is pretty guilty itself, on top of that, the person who misconduct during closing
arguments was deputy prosecutor. "The latest reversal came Tuesday, when a three–judge panel
from Division II decided Alfred James Thierry Jr. was denied a fair trial because of deputy
prosecutor Kara Sanchez improperly inflamed the jury during her closing argument." "Thierry is
entitled to a new trial, the panel said." Child rape cases is one of the most popular in U.S., or even
around the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The judgement upon the person being prosecute has to be fair, however, as the cases grow in
number, reporting fake cases can also be found. "Thierry, now 51, went to trial on four counts of
first–degree child rape and two counts of first–degree child molestation," but "Thierry denied ever
abusing the boy, arguing the child might have made up the story because he was unhappy with
Thierry." "A jury convicted Thierry on all counts, and Superior Court Judge Stanley Rumbaugh
sentenced him to 26 years of life in prison." When deputy prosecutor Sanchez is said to have
misconducted a case, "The Pierce County Prosecutor's Office argued, that Sanchez did not explicitly
ask the jury to convict Thierry for that reason" but "the appellate panel rejected those arguments."
Also, "the panel also denied Sanchez misrepresented defense attorney Jane Pierson's closing
argument, the result of which was "to unfairly undermine Thierry's

George Washington Essay
George Washington, we've all heard of him but few people can fully understand him and what he did
for our great country. He is said to have had wooden teeth, but he really didn't, they were just cow's
teeth and ivory. They were less comfortable than wood though, and they distorted the shape of his
mouth. One of George Washington's many quotes was this " It is impossible to rightly govern a
nation without God and the Bible."(George Washington)(Brainy Quote) George Washington was
born on February 22, 1732 in Wakefield, Virginia. He was born to Augustine Washington, and Mary
Ball and he had nine other siblings. Some of his favorite foods were cream of peanut soup, mashed
sweet potatoes with coconut, and string beans with mushrooms. He also ... Show more content on

He also personally promoted a project to evangelize Indians, this was organized by Selina, Countess
of Huntingdon. "Washington was a "Low Church" Anglican, the branch of the Anglican church that
took the Bible literally and would be considered "true" to the Bible by evangelical Christians today."
(Revolutionary War and Beyond) Some of George Washington's many quotes are, "Discipline is the
soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to
all", "Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than
it is to dislodge them after they have got possession," "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent;
it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.", "It is better to offer no excuse
than a bad one." Some of his occupations before becoming President were a surveyor, planter, and a
soldier. These were all jobs that he could do with his limited amount of schooling. At the age of 16
he began working for a surveyor and then at the age of 17 went on his own and started surveying by
himself. George Washington only took one trip out of country. This one trip was to Barbados with
Lawrence. They went on this trip in 1751. The purpose of this trip was to find relief from
Lawrence's tuberculosis with the warmer weather there. Sadly though, despite the attempts at
helping him to get better, the plan ultimately failed and Lawrence later passed away

Washington State Capitol Analysis
The state of Washington has gone through a lot throughout its years. Settling the first town,
choosing a state capitol, constructing the capitol buildings, and selecting the states administration
are just a few pieces of Washington's history.
The first town settled in Washington was Steilacoom. It was settled in January of 1851, while
Washington was not yet a state. Two reasons Steilacoom was successful was that it had good wood
and gold industries. Today, the town only has about 6,000 people living there. Even though it was
the first town established, it was not even in the race to be the state capitol.
After Washington became a state in November 11, 1889, the home of the capitol had to be decided
upon. The state capitol was established on November 4, 1890. When they voted Olympia received
25,490 votes, North Yakima 14,711, Ellensburg 12,833, Centralia 607, Yakima City (now Union
Gap) 314, and Pasco 130. On the second vote they took the top three out of the last vote and
Olympia was designated the state capital with 37,413 votes.
Ellensburg received 7,722 votes and North Yakima came in third with 6,276.
The capitol building was originally in the Thurston County court house in Olympia. The ... Show

Whatcom Fall Park Gasoline Pipeline Explosion
On June 10th, 1999 a gasoline pipeline ruptured in Whatcom Falls Park. This park is located in
Bellingham, Washington where the pipeline was controlled by the Olympic Pipeline Company. This
break in the gasoline pipeline let over a million liters of gasoline flow into a nearby river in the park.
After about an hour and a half the gasoline in the river ignited and caught on fire. The fire burnt
along the river for one and a half miles. As a result of the gasoline catching on fire, three people
were killed with another eight people injured. It has been estimated that total damages to property
reach as high as 45 million dollars. This pipeline explosion was a horrible disaster that could have
been avoided for a variety of reasons. There are multiple important people and organizations
involved with this gasoline pipeline explosion. The most important would be the Olympic Pipeline
Company itself. The Olympic Pipeline Company is operated by BP Pipelines. BP Pipelines is the
second largest pipeline company in the United States. There were a few important employees
involved in this case that worked for Olympic. There were the inspectors of the gasoline pipeline,
which were to inspect the pipeline's mechanics. Also, there were the employees who were
responsible for installing a pressure relief system that did not work. In addition, the computer
system administrator was very important since this person was working on the software

During the Olympic Torch Relay through Juneau, Alaska on January 24, 2002, Joseph Frederick,
senior at Juneau–Douglas High School, held up a banner saying "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" Principal,
Deborah Morse, told Frederick to put away the banner, because she was concerned it could be
encouraging illegal drug activity. Frederick refused to take the sign down, so she took the banner
from him. Frederick was suspended from school for 10 days for violating school policy, which does
not allow any use or advertisement of illegal drugs. But later, Frederick took the principal in front of
a jury to settle the consequences. Frederick believed Morse was going against the First Amendment,
Freedom of Speech. The U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska ruled in Morse favor, saying
that Frederick's action was not protected by the First Amendment. Bethel High School in Pierce

As I looked out the window, I saw walls of rocks all over the place. I also saw a lot of good rock
exposure on the top of the mountain where the rock was to steep for the snow to stick to. You will
notice that Mount Baker has an abundance of all sorts of rocks. From the rocks I examined I
observed a lot of extrusive igneous rock, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rocks and you will find
few places where you can walk continuously from shale or basalt into well–metamorphosed gneiss
(Tabor & Haugerud). I observed rocks such as gabbro, shale, and types of extrusive and intrusive
igneous rock such as basalt. The ages of the rocks range from about as old as the mountain, which is
about 140,000 years old.
Structures:
When you look at a topographic map of Mount Baker, you will notice many different structures and
interesting landforms. The first thing I noticed when I was observing the map were all the different
peaks within the mountain. From what I have been reading I have found two major faults that are
within Mount Baker. These two faults are the Straight Creek Fault and the Ross Lake Fault Zone;
these faults are thought to be primarily strike–slip. In addition, on the geologic map you will notice
the Sherman Crater, which originated from a large hydrovolcanic explosion (Tabor, Haugerud,
Hildreth, & Brown). This crater is responsible for many of Mount Bakers past lahars that have
flowed down the mountain and into Baker Lake. The pattern of hills, valleys, ridges, and

The district courts have evolved from local tribunals dealing with minor infractions and land

scope of individual rights under the Constitution, including free speech, the free exercise of religion,

Puget Sound Prairies Essay
The Puget Sound Prairies, are an important example of a rare and unique ecosystem, that are quickly

However, as time went on Fife had to adapt to the ever–changing world of supply and demand.
Today, Fife is no longer known for their agriculture. All the lush farmland is mostly gone and
replaced with industrial facilities, warehouses, care dealerships, motels and the Indian Casino. These
changes have brought tremendous economic growth to the city, however, these changes have
negatively impacted social climate and the employability of their senior and migrant residents.
Despite these criticisms, while I walked through the City of Fife I conversed with several residents
and asked each person I talked to about their general feelings about Fife. From these conversations,
the impression these residents have of Fife's overall social climate (i.e. general feelings, attitudes,

hopeful for continued economic growth.

Guidelines Of Formulating Goals And Strategies That Will...
The MAPP Task Force has convened for the purpose of formulating goals and strategies that will
reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Pierce County residents. The goals and strategies are meant
to show the interconnection between the vision of a healthy Pierce County and the current reality of
residents' health status. The barriers and modifiable risk factors presented are intended to provide an
overview of what the community looks like now and where it is headed. Also presented are impact,
process and outcome objectives that when performed should decrease CVD in the Pierce County
population.
Outcome Objective Currently, cardiovascular disease is the top cause of among Pierce County and
accounts for 29.7% of deaths (tpchd.org, 2013). Poor cardiovascular health affect can affect the
quality of an individual's life physically, mentally and economically. Heart disease may lead to heart
attacks and stroke ,which are the consequences of CVD. It can lead to premature death and
disability.
The Modifiable Risk Factors of CVD The modifiable risk factors of CVD are elevated cholesterol,
obesity/overweight , hypertension and poor mental health. The behavorial factors that contribute to
CVD are tobacco use and physical inactivity (a contributor to obesity). In Pierce County the
environmental conditions that influence the development of CVD are lack of health insurance and/or
a health care provider, lack of access to care. By addressing these issues and providing impact

Zion National Park: A Beautiful Place For A Vacation
With a little more time–doable in the summer, when everything is wonderful all around–you could

canyons, and more. Zion is a beautiful painting full of reds, oranges, browns, blues, and greens. The
beauty. Zion is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. I think that more people
should go outside, enjoy life, have fun, and visit Zion.

I have done all three of these fantastic journeys and I can say that they are very amazing and that
they are wonderful for getting some exercise. Angel's Landing is the most strenuous climb, but it is
so cool because you are basically hiking up a small mountain and at some parts one side is a rock
wall with a small chain and the other is a thousand foot drop off. Although The Observatory has a
higher elevation above the ground than Angel's Landing it is not as strenuous, but it is still a lot of
fun. It is so breathtaking when you finally get to the top, you can basically see everything and you
can even look down onto Angel's Landing and even see the people! Now going from the one of the
highest points to the lowest points, The Narrows, is extraordinary too. You get to go down into a
canyon which is called The Narrows and you get to hike through it, but sometimes the water can get
sort of high and can make it a little tough to do. It is so unbelievable of how small that you feel
while in The Narrows. I think that going to Zion and doing these activities is the way to have the

The War Of Camp Lewis
Prepare for war! That is what you hear and your heart stops while your jaw opens and you gasp for
air that is not there. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as
preparing for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future of
tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in
Washington State. Late in1916, as war continued to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned
citizens gathered at American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel.
The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the
possibility of going to war in Europe. One of the attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen
Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice–president of
the Northwest Business Men's Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He
was informed that the Army was sending out a survey team to the Northwest in search of
establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him
to make a site visit of the camp that the community had established as possibility of use for the
Army. Captain Richard Parks (Army survey team commander) visited Pierce County as requested
and found it to be impressive. Major General J. Franklin Bell visited the area after hearing the

1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was designed for a wind speed of 100 miles per hour and a static wind
pressure of 30 pounds–force per square foot but unfortunately the bridge failed at a wind speed of
less than half and a static wind pressure of one–sixth (Delatte, 2009). This phenomenon raises a big
question mark on how this is possible. At first, resonance was suspected to be the main cause of the
bridge failure (The New York Times, 1940). After some proper research and thorough investigations
by engineers, they came up with several theories on how did the bridge collapse. The primary cause
of the collapse lies in the general proportions of the bridge and the type of stiffening girders and
floor. The ratio of the width of the bridge to the length of the main span was so much smaller and
the vertical stiffness was so much less than those of previously constructed bridges that ... Show

Ammann, Theodore von Karman, and Glenn B. Woodruff to investigate the case of the 1940
Tacoma Bridge collapse (Scott, 2001). Theodore von Karman, a famous aeronautical engineer,
claimed that the motion that was seen on the day when the bridge was brought into pieces was due
to vortices. When an air flow passes a bluff body, it created the periodic shedding of air vortices,
which created the von Karman Vortex Street (Delatte, 2009). As a consequence, the bridge would
move towards the low–pressure zone, in a wavering development called vortex–induced vibration.
On the off chance that the recurrence of vortex shedding matches the regular recurrence of the
scaffold, then the structure reverberates and motions may get to be distinctly self–maintaining. This
wake reinforced the oscillations that were present and caused the centre span to violently twist until
the bridge collapsed (Von Kármán, 1963). Experimental results that was deduced in a 1942 report
confirms that the motions were a result of vortex shedding (Farquharson,

1 What is your main research question and hypothesis?
Question= Have there been any declines in the riverine ecosystem of the Nisqually river and if so
what are the declines caused by?
Hypothesis: Due to the recent study published in the peer–reviewed journal Global Change Biology
says increased flow variability has crucial negative effects on salmon populations of multiple
climate factors considered and the salmon quality over the recent years showing a decline the
prediction is the findings will include that there is indeed a decline in riverine ecosystem that are

2 Why is this research important? Riverine ecosystem health monitoring is essential to carry out
everyday living. It has always been, and will continue to be imperative to life. Even the globally
declared ambitions of sustainability and environmental security in the region are unattainable
without the use of geospatial technologies of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems

that drain into the Nisqually River and includes the communities of Ashford, Elbe, Mineral,

The Civil War, known by many as one of the most tumultuous times in our country's history is one
of the most crucial wars that the United States has ever participated in. The reason for this is that the
country was not at war with an enemy from another country but within itself. With the many years
of conflict between the northern union states and the southern confederacy states and with the
Union's victory over the confederate south, it has been known as one of the most infamous wars of

He met with Mr. Appleby and the league about the possibilities of the land use. Earlier that year,
(August 1916) there was a bill that was passed by the U.S. Senate that allowed the Secretary of War
to accept land that was donated to military for a supply station, mobilization, training, and other
strategic military purposes. The General and the appointed members from Washington State took
their proposal to Washington D.C. and met with the Secretary of War, Chief of Staff, and President
Woodrow Wilson to discuss the possibility of a military post in the Nisqually area of Pierce County.
Part of the agreement for establishing the post was that Washington State would donate 140 square
miles to the military. Mr. Appleby and his league now had the daunting task of convincing the
community members that purchasing and donating the land to the Army was the beneficial thing to
do for Pierce County and the Puget Sound area. "On 6 January 1917, 86 percent of the Pierce
County Electorate voted to bond themselves for 20 years for $2,000,000 to purchase 70,000 acres to
be donated to the federal government for use as a military base" Lewis Army Museum (2015). The
community agreed to the terms but could not donate the land until the United States was officially at
war. Once the U.S. entered World War I, Pierce County seized the land by purchasing it from the
landowners. This allowed them to give it

King County Washington is considered to have one of the most multi–layered innovative approaches
to climate change (Hertsgaard, 2011). King County is unique. Its boundaries include 39 cities, with
over 650,000 residents in Seattle alone, and over 250,000 residents in unincorporated King County;
totaling in a combined population that exceeds 2 million (King County, 2015). King County is also
unique because it's SCAP addresses several issues including socioeconomic issues, environmental
hazards, pollution, and commuting (Hertsgaard, 2011). Globally, the impacts of climate change
continue to be felt and King County is no exception. As a result of climate change, King County has
continued to experience hotter summers and overall warmer temperatures all year around, increased

Descriptive Essay About Mt Rainier
The majestic mountain towers over the Washington state landscape and can be visible from most
vantage point in the Seattle metro area. See the main Seattle page here. Mt. Rainier is an active
volcano that is always topped with snow. It has 26 main glaciers – the most on any mountain in the
lower 48 US states. It is more than 14 thousand feet high and spawns 6 major rivers and many
waterfalls. The national park around the mountain was established in 1899 as the fifth national park
in the United States and it encompasses 236,381 acres. Along with the towering peak of Rainer, the
park's expansive area includes many mountains, meadows, old growth forests, rivers and waterfalls.
Interesting Facts: On clear days Mt Rainier can be seen as far away as Corvallis, British Columbia
and Oregon. The park is popular for hiking, climbing and winter sports. Most visitors go for a day
trip, but some like to stay at the campgrounds and Inns. On a recent tour with "Customized Tours",
we spent a day exploring this beautiful park and majestic mountain. We started from Seattle and
headed south towards the Nisqually entrance. Along the way, we stopped at Puyallup to stretch our
legs and buy some supplies. The town has a large Fred Myers grocery store with everything you can
think off – including a Starbucks. It was good stop for breakfast. Interesting Facts: Some ice cave in
the mountain are so cold they are being studied for similarity to conditions on Mars. Our guide and
driver Joe was a

Pugetopolis Case Study

  • 1. Pugetopolis Case Study 1. Pugetopolis is the region in Washington state which is the Puget Sound region in the Pacific Northwest coastal area. Pugetopolis has nine counties. King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Kitsap being the four largest and most populated. Pugetopolis has two large ports, the Port of Tacoma and Port of Seattle. As Pugetopolis grew, its population and industries have also grown and has become a harbor with a metropolitan area with approximately 3.5 million people. Pugetopolis has changed dramatically over the years, it has become home to many big companies such Amazon and Microsoft and the population continues to grow each year. 2. According to the author because of the hyper–growth of Pugetopolis, it has become hard for the middle class and working families to live. Housing prices and cost of living has raised rapidly. There has been harm to the environment especially pollution to the Puget sound. Toxic runoff to the Puget Sound has led to a loss of habitat and has impacted the marine life. Pollution from storm water contaminates which kills fish and other world life across the Puget sound. Puget Sound has unhealthy levels toxic chemicals and PCB's, deforestation and as the population and the economy continue to grow these problems will eventually become worse. 3. A negative issue that the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author mentioned that the level of toxic water run off to the lakes is affecting the habitat in the water. Puget Sound water is becoming more acidic and dangerous to the marine life. One solution I have is to create toxic clean programs that are available and accessible in all areas of this region. This would cost the state money but it would be benefiting to everyone including the marine life. People living here can also prevent storm water pollution by disposing of their household hazardous wastes correctly such as pesticides, garden chemicals. Also by using nontoxic dish soap at and other eco–friendly products at home littering, picking up animal waste and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Raleigh Hills Stereotypes Raleigh Hills is a small suburb just within Portland city limits, in the southwest hills of Washington County, though many often mistake it for being within Beaverton. Housing a population of 5,896 people as of the 2010 census, the vast majority of the population is composed of either married couples (50.8%), non–families (39.6%), or individuals (33.4%). So, in this way it deviates from the general vision of the suburbs being moreso oriented towards families with children, but in my little cul–de–sac, such a stereotype is perpetuated. Well, there's at least one family with children in the neighborhood, due to the fact that I'll often see a particular group of boys walking down the street. The neighborhood was named after one of Washington county's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, there are a few local businesses in the area, but very few are worth mentioning, at least by Portland's standards. There's a McMenamins bar and a highly acclaimed lumber supply store, but otherwise, it's either chains or shady storefronts. What I find so funny about my neighborhood is how desperately they try to be like Portland, or the "mainland" as I like to call it. But alas, it is merely a subsidiary, its own entity, despite what any of the zoning codes may state. Most people when in the area are there because they're obligated to; they need to run errands, pick up their kids from school or it's on their way to work. In short, it's hardly a destination, it's not trendy. There are no swanky hangouts or coffee shops. Everyone who lives here keeps to themselves and goes about their day, which does have its benefits. For instance, I personally like feeling a sense of solitude when I'm at home, and this is definitely provided for me in my pseudo cul–de–sac. I can play my music as loud as I want with no complaints, other than those who actually live in my house. I don't fear someone looking in on me whilst relaxing in my rumpled PJ's, my greasy hair pulled into a bun too messy to be perceived as "cute." I am able to reflect in the peace that I so often crave. I have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trends of the graphs in Figure 3 also show that the achievement gap between ELL and non–ELL students has increased over the past three school years. Data pulled from Performance Matters shows that 13% or 46 students taking the Algebra 1 End of Course exam are ELL students (Performance Matters, 2017). Figure 4 shows that students without disabilities outperform students with disabilities. In addition, data from the Florida Department of Education EdStats page shows not one student with a disability was proficient on the Algebra 1 End of Course Exam for the 2016–2017 school year. This is a very important data point because school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The professional development taught "the importance of language acquisition, building background knowledge, increasing student language production, and explicitly teaching academic language (Robertson, 2012, p.5)". The research was performed by Jose Vidot to examine the effectiveness of SIOP implementation in a Washington state high school (2011). The school was 93.1% Hispanic, and 93.7% of students received free or reduced lunch. Before the implementation of SIOP, only 4.8% of tenth graders were proficient on the Washington State math exam in 2008–2009 (Vidot, 2011). After a year of implementation, 32.8% of tenth graders were proficient on the 2009–2010 Washington state math exam. Further qualitative analysis showed that the students of teachers who had previous experience with and positive views of the SIOP program outperformed their peers who had teachers with less experience or negative views of the SIOP program (Vidot, 2011). Though SIOP professional development was once offered regularly by the St. Lucie County School District, the training has not been offered officially by the district for many years. It is recommended that the school first reach out to the district to see if professional development for SIOP or another ELL instructional strategy program could be offered on select days to all teachers. If that is not possible, Robertson offers advice for explicitly teaching academic vocabulary. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Sexual Metaphors In Matthew Fraser's Speech At Bethel High... On April 26, 1983, Matthew Fraser, a student at Bethel High School in Pierce County, Washington, delivered a speech nominating a fellow student for elective office. There were six hundred high school students there, most of them the age of 14. The assembly was a part of the educational program in self–government that the school sponsored. During the entire speech Mathew referred to his candidate using sexual metaphors. "Elaborate, graphic, and explicit sexual metaphor." Two of his teachers had read over his speech and told him it was "inappropriate and that he probably should not deliver it." A school counselor watched other kid's reactions as he gave the speech. • 9. Chief Seattle Essay Chief Seattle When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people. Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief Seattle (more correctly known as Seathl or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seattle moved to Port Madison Reservation and lived in Old Man House, just across from Bainbridge Island; "This was a community house measuring some 60' x 900' feet easily the largest Indian made wooden structure in the region". (4) When settlers first came to America they were meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their religion. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name "Noah". One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there is one book, I'm sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. "A Tacoma man convicted of child rape and molestation two years ago did not receive a fair trial because a Pierce County deputy prosecutor committed misconduct during closing arguments, the Washington Court of Appeals has ruled." Freeing a guilty man because of misconducting is pretty guilty itself, on top of that, the person who misconduct during closing arguments was deputy prosecutor. "The latest reversal came Tuesday, when a three–judge panel from Division II decided Alfred James Thierry Jr. was denied a fair trial because of deputy prosecutor Kara Sanchez improperly inflamed the jury during her closing argument." He is said to have had wooden teeth, but he really didn't, they were just cow's teeth and ivory. They were less comfortable than wood though, and they distorted the shape of his mouth. One of George Washington's many quotes was this " It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible."(George Washington)(Brainy Quote) George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Wakefield, Virginia. He was born to Augustine Washington, and Mary Ball and he had nine other siblings. Some of his favorite foods were cream of peanut soup, mashed sweet potatoes with coconut, and string beans with mushrooms. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Washington was a "Low Church" Anglican, the branch of the Anglican church that took the Bible literally and would be considered "true" to the Bible by evangelical Christians today." (Revolutionary War and Beyond) Some of George Washington's many quotes are, "Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all", "Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession," "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.", "It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one." Some of his occupations before becoming President were a surveyor, planter, and a soldier. These were all jobs that he could do with his limited amount of schooling. At the age of 16 he began working for a surveyor and then at the age of 17 went on his own and started surveying by himself. George Washington only took one trip out of country. This one trip was to Barbados with Lawrence. They went on this trip in 1751. The purpose of this trip was to find relief from Lawrence's tuberculosis with the warmer weather there. • 15. Washington State Capitol Analysis The state of Washington has gone through a lot throughout its years. Settling the first town, choosing a state capitol, constructing the capitol buildings, and selecting the states administration are just a few pieces of Washington's history. The first town settled in Washington was Steilacoom. It was settled in January of 1851, while Washington was not yet a state. Two reasons Steilacoom was successful was that it had good wood and gold industries. Today, the town only has about 6,000 people living there. Even though it was the first town established, it was not even in the race to be the state capitol. After Washington became a state in November 11, 1889, the home of the capitol had to be decided upon. The state capitol was established on November 4, 1890. When they voted Olympia received 25,490 votes, North Yakima 14,711, Ellensburg 12,833, Centralia 607, Yakima City (now Union Gap) 314, and Pasco 130. On the second vote they took the top three out of the last vote and Olympia was designated the state capital with 37,413 votes. Ellensburg received 7,722 votes and North Yakima came in third with 6,276. The capitol building was originally in the Thurston County court house in Olympia. The ... The first thing I noticed when I was observing the map were all the different peaks within the mountain. From what I have been reading I have found two major faults that are within Mount Baker. These two faults are the Straight Creek Fault and the Ross Lake Fault Zone; these faults are thought to be primarily strike–slip. In addition, on the geologic map you will notice the Sherman Crater, which originated from a large hydrovolcanic explosion (Tabor, Haugerud, Hildreth, & Brown). • 51. 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was designed for a wind speed of 100 miles per hour and a static wind pressure of 30 pounds–force per square foot but unfortunately the bridge failed at a wind speed of less than half and a static wind pressure of one–sixth (Delatte, 2009). This phenomenon raises a big question mark on how this is possible. At first, resonance was suspected to be the main cause of the bridge failure (The New York Times, 1940). After some proper research and thorough investigations by engineers, they came up with several theories on how did the bridge collapse. The primary cause of the collapse lies in the general proportions of the bridge and the type of stiffening girders and floor. The ratio of the width of the bridge to the length of the main span was so much smaller and the vertical stiffness was so much less than those of previously constructed bridges that ... Theodore von Karman, a famous aeronautical engineer, claimed that the motion that was seen on the day when the bridge was brought into pieces was due to vortices. When an air flow passes a bluff body, it created the periodic shedding of air vortices, which created the von Karman Vortex Street (Delatte, 2009). As a consequence, the bridge would move towards the low–pressure zone, in a wavering development called vortex–induced vibration. On the off chance that the recurrence of vortex shedding matches the regular recurrence of the scaffold, then the structure reverberates and motions may get to be distinctly self–maintaining. This wake reinforced the oscillations that were present and caused the centre span to violently twist until the bridge collapsed (Von Kármán, 1963). Experimental results that was deduced in a 1942 report confirms that the motions were a result of vortex shedding (Farquharson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tacoma is the county seat of Pierce County and the largest city in the county and third largest city in the state (US Census Bureau, 2014). Pierce County is located south of Seattle and is comprised of 1,679 sq. miles, many of which front the Puget Sound. She is beginning to feel the gradual decline in her body functions and says that she and others like her find it frustrating that their bodies don't work as well as they did in their youth. That attitude of reluctance tends to affect how readily her peers seek assistance, especially if it means accepting the realities of aging. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important or as serious as preparing for war, it is important to know the past. In Washington State, the civilian populace fought for the idea of bringing a military base to the American Lake region. Question= Have there been any declines in the riverine ecosystem of the Nisqually river and if so what are the declines caused by? Hypothesis: Due to the recent study published in the peer–reviewed journal Global Change Biology says increased flow variability has crucial negative effects on salmon populations of multiple climate factors considered and the salmon quality over the recent years showing a decline the prediction is the findings will include that there is indeed a decline in riverine ecosystem that are due to human as well as natural causes. 2 Why is this research important? Riverine ecosystem health monitoring is essential to carry out everyday living. It has always been, and will continue to be imperative to life. Even the globally declared ambitions of sustainability and environmental security in the region are unattainable without the use of geospatial technologies of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for environmental health within shared waters. The Nisqually Watershed includes all lands that drain into the Nisqually River and includes the communities of Ashford, Elbe, Mineral, Eatonville, McKenna, Roy, Yelm, Fort Lewis, and portions of Graham, Lacey, DuPont, and Rainier. In August 2005, Cardiac began to get complaints about Emerick's conduct. Several physicians actually stopped referring patients to Cardiac due to his conduct. When this became a problem, Cardiac's Professional Conduct Committee met with Emerick to discuss the complaints. Not only did they meet once, but twice because there were more complaints after the first discussion. Even after addressing the complaints a second time, Emerick's behavior did not change.
