Pros And Cons Of Extremism The Bane For Our Society
Extremism: The Bane for Our Society
We are standing against each other, with our faces at opposite ends.
We need not learn from one–another, for we both are enlightened.
The sparking light that illuminates us has blinded our eyes.
Our ears covered by thick curtains of established ideologies
For strangers now we are; Our hearts have turned to stones
On cadaver of humanism, humanity sits and mourns
But; who we are?
We are the flag bearers of self righteousness.
Extremism is the bud that sprouts from the sown seeds of egotism, discontentment, inequality,
injustice and finally self righteousness. Dictionaries and encyclopedias generally define it as
deviation from existing moral standards. But the definition is far more complex. Extremism, as ...

Humanism, kindness, love, empathy and tolerance are a few among noble moral traits. These are the
traits which are "essential goodness of human heart". Without these traits, man is no better than a
beast. As Sir Francis Bacon puts;
"Goodness, I call the habit; and goodness of nature, the inclination. This of all the virtues and
dignity of mind is the greatest; being the character of the Deity: and without it man is a busy,
mischievous and wretched thing; no better than a kind of vermin"
William Huxley in his essay "Adonis and the Alphabet" regarding prevalence of non humanitarian
attitude towards animal species relates a story of twelfth century, where blessed saint Sesilia shows
us an ugly picture of the church when one day, St. Dominic was preaching to his disciples of her
convent when a sparrow began to fly in the air, hopping over their heads. No sister annoyed but St.
Dominic asked one of them to catch it. St. Dominic relentlessly started plucking sparrow's feathers
while saying; you wretch, you rouge!!!" amidst laughter from brothers and sisters and many doleful
screams from the dying sparrow. Undoubtedly, miserable that is! But more miserable is the time
when assassins are started to be identified as "Sons of the nation". And when the whole world,
including us, while holding flags of morality, follow the policy of selective criticism and selective
condemnation of brutes across

Personal Narrative: Son Or Daughter
Son or Daughter, It's February 1st, 2016 and the weather outside seems like it's already summer with
a nice 70 degrees and slight wind, although tomorrow we are supposed to get some snow. That's
pretty normal for Oklahoma weather. The world is pretty different than it was when I was a kid, now
everybody seems to have cell phones and smartphones. Seems like nobody can go anywhere
without their phones now, it's an essential thing for everyday life. I had a flip phone when I was in
7th grade for emergencies only, now elementary schoolers have smartphones. I can't wait to see
what the world will be like for you, who knows where the world will be by my 50th birthday, we

Hopefully I'm not blind by the time you're able to read this! I'm just kidding, also, I like to consider
myself a pretty funny guy, I think I'm easy to get along with, who knows how I'll be by the time
your read this, I hope I'm still this way. Another thing about me is that I got my first car when I was
16, a black 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L. Anyone growing up around me at this time could tell you
that I absolutely fell in love with that car. I never had a choice picking that car, but I ended up
adoring it with all of my heart, before, I used to think that Volkswagens were for girls but I was
sadly mistaken. Around one year ago I wrecked that beautiful car into the ditch behind the school
jumbotron and was the laughing stock of the school for a while, please don't drive too stupidly when
you're young, I know you will or probably already have, but please just be careful, you don't want
your license taken away or your only mode of transportation taken away from you at such a young
age. Anyways, I still kept the car after that wreck, Dad was nice enough to pay for all of the damage
I did to it, a nice four or five thousand dollars worth of damage that I'm almost done paying him off
for. I still have it right now at the end of my Senior year and I'm glad that I kept it because I've spent
too much personal amount of money

The Importance Of Hate Speech
Revolutions have been fought and won thanks to enraged people who have gathered together to
contest injustice. To illustrate, when the debate over Jim Crow laws ruled the south, college students
(black and white) resorted to civil disobedience by sitting in dinners reserved for "whites only" and
held protests on college campuses. Such demonstrations served in solidarity for the cause of civil
rights amount the races. Historically, students have been at the forefront of fighting injustices in the
United States; therefore, the fight against hate speech is not the exception. This duty has been
handed down over generations. Consequently, students will continue to stand in solidarity to
denounce what they think is unjust and hold demonstrations to protest hate.
Although the radical left should denounce injustice, they tend to forget the historical importance of
freedom of speech. It is important to realize that, "abolitionists, labor activists; religious group
minorities, communists and socialists, cultural critics, gays, and lesbians..." all were victims of
limited free speech.(We Must Help College Students Understand the Importance of Free Speech Pg.
2) Perhaps the lack of historical understanding of free speech from the radical left is fathomable.
However, a lack of historical knowledge on such an important right remains unacceptable.
Although, the events that shaped our forefathers' unbreakable respect for our first amendment were
of high importance, such as the civil rights

The theme of the 2 story's The Lottery by Shirly Jaxson and First they came ... by Martin Niemoller
is it is dangerous to follow blindly . The lottery is a story were everyone still does this tradition that
basically gets people killed if they "win" then the towns people throw rocks at the people who
"won" . They first came is a poem and it is about how the Nazis come for all of these different
people and he did not stand up then they came for him and no one else was there to help him so
basically taking the right path is not always the easiest path . So basically the two story's are saying
it is dangerous to follow the crowd and it can end in disastrous consequences .
The lottery is in a little town in the southern part of the world were it was summer so it was the time
for the lottery . In the story the author says "But in this village of about only 300 people " . Then the
author said "The children gather first of course they recently got out of school for summer" . Also he
says "The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny " .
In first they came it is in WW2 it is a poem were he goes with the crowd the they come for him and
no one would help him . He says that "They first came for the socialist and then the Unionist and
then the Jews and then him . First the came is a first person story . In First they came the Nazis do
not like people .

Essay On Volunteerism
Before explaining the concepts of liminality and Othering and their connection to volunteerism, I
will first explain how volunteerism is scientifically defined and approached. The term volunteerism
is a coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. Stebbins and Graham (2004) define
volunteerism as volunteering "in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve the
aiding or alleviating the material poverty of some groups in society, the restoration of certain
environments or research into aspects of society or environment (Stebbins and Graham 2004, 211).
According to Beigbeder (1991) and Clark (1978), a volunteer is someone who voluntarily offers
personal services, time and skills for the benefit of others. Stebbins and ... Show more content on

The concept of liminality was first introduced in the field of anthropology by Van Gennep (1909).
He described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their
social status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back
their new status at the end. After Van Gennep's work on the concept there was a long period of
silence around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep's ideas for his interpretation of liminality.
He started to apply liminality to small–scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are
"neither here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law,
custom, convention, and ceremony" (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal
communities within which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is
the hippies who, according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines
liminality as following: "Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural
assertions, but as in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure
possibility whence novel configurations of ideas and relations may arise" (Turner 1967: 97). This
connects to the work of Rabinow (1977) again, in which he describes how the informants of an

Essay about Orientalism
The definition of orientalism takes up no more than two sentences in the dictionary. Coincidentally,
Orientalism came to be such a complex and deep concept which Said devotes his entire book in
discussing about it. His book – Orientalism unfolds the history of the Orientalism, reveals the "dark"
side of an orientalist's mind and describes the different dimensions of Orientalism. He also attempts
to expose the truth of the Orient, which he warned that: "One ought never to assume that the
structure of Orientalism is nothing more than a structures of lies or of myths, which were the truth
about them to be told, would simply blow away" (Said). In order to understand the truth Said`s
referring to, one ought to first understand the origin and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And authority here means for "us" to deny autonomy to "it" – the Oriental country – since we know
it and it exists, in a sense, as we know it" (Said, 32). [Because they have the knowledge about the
Egyptians, they feel like they have the power and authority to take over the nation and colonializing
it.] Surely, Balfour's claim of the profound knowledge about Egypt is actively linked with political
imperialism and colonization of Egypt. Said reinforces his argument about knowledge and power
once again by referring to the quote by Cromer "knowledge gives power, more power requires more
knowledge, and so on in an increasingly profitable dialectic of information and control (Said
36).Thus, Knowledge serves as a powerful tool to allow the West to explore, control and govern the
"Other". Consequently, knowledge about the Orient is the start and the result of European
domination, possession, and rationalization of the Orient, as one shall see in the following
paragraphs.
Domination/Possession:
Another key feature about Orientalism is that it puts Europe in the position of power and domination
(Said, 40). Orientalism promotes the segregation of the East

1992 faded red colored Ford Mustang. It was mid–dusk at 4:30pm as this was before the time
change and nights came earlier. I was in the right turn lane 4th in a queue behind a four door Pontiac
which was behind a white U–Haul type moving truck that was obstructing the view of the first
vehicle. The moving truck was the type with the high cargo hold that averages 12 feet from concrete
to top of the truck. My car has a seat height that prevented me from being able to see the lights of
the intersection until it had made its turn. I am unaware of the state of the light upon it making its

regularly and I do not want to obstruct whatever the officers are engaging in at that moment.
At the time of this writing, within the last 12 months, fifteen people have been murdered in Pomona.

Do Fans Take Things Too Far Research Paper
Do fans take things too far?
This story is going to give you the answer once in for all. Do fans take things too far? NO! 1 thing is
fans just want to be good supporters of their team. 2nd fans act the same way their team does after a
loss upset, mad, and sometimes enraged it's just the way the fans feel after a game. 3rd all the fans
want to do is one let the players know that we the fans represent them and want them to win, second
we the fans are on that teams side and third we the fans will "scream and shout and let it all out" too
let the players we represent them and that they are our favorite. The first reason being fans are all
about supporting their team they will stop at nothing to prove that they love the team they cheer for

Thats just because fans sometimes get enraged because their team has lost all fans will feel the same
way the team does sad and depressed about the loss many fans will take the team loss and count as a
loss as if it was the fans loss in real life. The last reason, fans want to support the team they like they
want to show that team they want them to win, even if that means screaming at the top of their lungs
and dressing up like their team, meaning the fans wearing face paint or that teams jersey or even
body paint like painting the teams logo on your stomach. Believe you me fans will do anything and
everything to let the team know that we are their supporters.
Now yes I know we the fans can go a little over board. We the fans can take things a little too far
and start vandalising things but thats not what every fan does. You have to realise that fans just want
their team to win. Fans tend to get mad enraged or even start breaking things if their team doesn't
win. It's just because they're mad or upset, sometimes you can call them a bad sport "it's is just a

Watching the Solution to the Jewish Question from Afar
If you lived in the time of the Holocaust and you were a non–Jewish person, would you want to take
the chance of fighting back and having the consequences of your actions affect the lives of your
family? Or would you just "go with the flow" and stand back as the Jewish people were punished?
This is a question that people in this time had to ask themselves. Some decided to take the chance
and fight back, but many did not. Most people, who had families to think about, chose to stand back
from what was happening. Honestly, the non–Jewish people who chose to stand back had every
right to make this decision for themselves and their families.
Although the decision that was made by these people can be explained, some may not see it that
way. Some may see it that the people who chose to stand back were simply being weak or that they
were immoral. They could've fought back if they wanted to, but they chose otherwise. They chose
what could be looked at as the, "easy way out". Another side to this could be that not everyone had a
family to think about, and those who did have a family could have acted in a way that didn't get
them involved. They should've thought that maybe if they spoke out then other people would be
more willing to stand up for what was right. If the thought that one person can't make a change
crossed their mind then they should've tried to get more people together to fight back; they
should've tried to take a stand. Even though this is all true, the non–Jewish people

The Ethics of Advertising: Do Advertisers Go Too Far?
The Ethics of Advertising:
Do advertisers go too far?
Introduction:
Advertising is any paid form of non–personal communication about an organization, good, service
or idea by an identified sponsor (Berkowitz, Crane, Kerin, Hartley, & Rudelius, 494).
Advertisements are displayed through various means to a large audience. They can be found on the
Internet, in a magazine, or even on the highway. Advertisements are everywhere! Their main goal is
to grab the consumer's attention about a specific good, service or institution. To achieve this goal,
advertisers use an assortment of techniques. However, some of the techniques used are illegal,
unethical, or both. To illustrate, there is an illegal trick known as "bait and switch". This ... Show

Does this set a good example for society? Lastly, reminder advertising is used to reinforce previous
knowledge of a product (Berkowitz et al., 495). This type of advertising is normally used for
products that have reached the maturity stage. Reminder advertising may also be used for seasonal
goods and services. One type of reminder advertising is reinforcement advertising. Reinforcement
advertising may be used to assure current users that they made the right choice. There are numerous
arguments about the moral values of advertising and advertising's effect on society. Advertising is
sometimes viewed as manipulative. Manipulative advertising is portrayed as advertising that tries to
favorably alter consumer's perceptions of the advertised product by appeals to factors other than the
product's physical attributes and functional performance (Lippke, 5). Some people see this form of
advertising as a necessary evil while others do not. Those for manipulative advertising, like
Theodore Levitt, argue that people have deep needs for hopes, illusions and fantasies that
advertising sells (Lippke, 14). Since reality is too much to bear at times, people seek products that
provide them with optimistic feelings provided through the use of advertising (Lippke, 14). Without
manipulative advertising, some believe that society may become more interesting since

Furthermore, after the events of the Brexit, one of Britain's most senior police officers stated that

Quebec 's Far Right Steps Out Of The Shadows
Québec's far right steps out of the shadows: How neo–nationalist and alt–right groups in the
province benefit from a global momentum
Populist movements are on the rise across the Western world. Donald Trump 's victory in the U.S.,
the Brexit vote in the U.K. and the surge of far–right parties in many European countries all stand
testimony to this. Emboldened by this momentum, Québec 's far–right groups are growing their
ranks. And while they may be less established, they, too, want to make themselves heard. (1,760

The common theme among them is a firm rejection of established conservative parties as well as the
skepticism of globalization and its corollary immigration, which they believe threatens to erode the
Québécois way of life.
"Right now, in places like Montreal, Quebecois culture is being drowned," says Remi Tremblay, the
media liaison for the Federation des Québécois de souche, whose anti–immigration tirades are loud
and proud. The group was founded as a protest movement in the aftermath of Quebec 's reasonable
accommodation crisis. Its concern is more with the very concept of immigration than with specific
groups. "Peoples that are strangers to each other, and who have different values and traditions can't
live side by side indefinitely without there being frictions and problems," he says.
Many of these groups single out radical Islam as being the most vivid threat, one which they
consider to be closer at hand than mainstream society realizes.
"We believe radical Islam has no place here. We can see what damage it does in Europe and we
don't want the same to happen here," says Daniel Boucher, president of the Alliance nationale
réformiste du Québec. Boucher thinks it 's dangerous for Québécois society to dismiss this threat as
marginal. "Of course it's not the majority, but still, it doesn't always take a majority. It's usually a
minority that causes the damage. You still have to be cautious," he adds.

Scourging Of The Four Martyrs Summary
Niccolo di Pietro Gerini's Scourging of the Four Crowned Martyrs (1385–90) depicts a scene in
which four martyrs are pursued by a group of men with some scourging tool (which resembles a
modern–day rake). A late Gothic painting in which Gerini depicts a Catholic story of the Four
Crowned Martyrs, the Scourging incorporates much of the static, stiff forms which are characteristic
of the period's prevailing style. In the painting, one can notice clear divisions of space, distinct
separations of forms within that space, and emphases on the men doing the scourging within that
space as a function of where the light is directed in the painting. An analysis of these three key
elements of the painting suggests a cohesive assertion about the way the painting's subjects are
depicted within the image. Initially it seems apparent that the four martyrs are depicted in a negative
manner with the scourging men taking precedence. However, an analysis beyond the obvious
elements – particularly the figure suspended in the air and the devilish figures attacking the
scourging men – suggest that the four martyrs are actually being depicted in a more positive light. A
brief discussion of the subject matter of the painting serves as an important starting point. The most
obvious subjects, as suggested by the title of the piece, are the four crowned martyrs. Located on the
far right side of the painting to the viewer are the four crowned martyrs being pursued by the men in
front of them (to our

For example, in the book All American Slurp, the narrator's mother bought her dresses for school.
When the narrator realized that everyone wore jeans, she felt out of place. The text communicates,
"By the time she saw that Meg and the other girls were wearing jeans, it was too late." This quote

Also, this creates trouble for the narrator's mom because she already bought all of her school clothes

Gertrude Bell 's Persian Pictures : A Study Of The Landscape

Oriental Eyes in Gertrude Bell's Persian Pictures: A study of the Landscape This essay is an attempt
to investigate how the Eastern landscape has been othered by the West through inspecting Gertrude
Bell's travel book Persian Pictures (1894). The essay adopts Edwa rd Said's concept of Orientalism
to highlight the western ideology of othering the foreign landscape. The crux of 'Orientalism', being
the vehicle of studying the colonial conflicts and the cultural hegemony, demarcates the European's
map road of dealing with the Other. It is one–sided ideology that reflects the Westerners' views of
the Orient as they have imagined it to be. I aim in this essay to scrutinise Bells' narration of using
the male voice in tackling the landscape in the texts under investigation. The abundant reports,
literary narratives, and the variety of representations of the early travellers, present the Orient as
strange, eccentric, savage, hostile, irrational, exotic, and mysterious, that has unresolved secrets,
alien creatures, sensational women, monstrous and beast–like people. Said claims that it is sufficient
for 'us' [Orientalists] to 'set up these boundaries in our minds', and 'both the Other's territory and
their mentality' have been 'designated as different from "ours"' (Said, 2003: 54). The essence of
Orientalism in its true form, is to define the non–European and his landscape as the Other. This
process could only be

I strongly agree with Buckely's essay because it stresses the author's theory that we wait and expect
for someone else to complain about fixing an uncomfortable situation, instead of doing it ourselves.
Buckley shows an example of this when he writes about himself suffocating in an 85 degrees train.
People could not despise the heat as well but they assumed someone would tell them to change the
temperature. He says, "we will sit in an oven or endure a racking headache before undertaking a

#10 With the Agricultural Revolution occurring in many different regions throughout the world,
many key changes were brought to Neolithic people. As a result, significant physical, technological,
and social transitions happened as humans moved from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic era.
Even though the Agricultural Revolution brought efficient ways of obtaining food, farming was still
a hard work, and as a result, it took a toll on people's health. Tooth decay and anemia were common,
since there was a smaller variety of foods to be obtained, and that food might not have given the
people all the nutrition they required. Such deficiencies in their diet meant that the people did not
develop as well as they could have, so they were general small in stature. Also, their lifespans were
shorter, partly because of the many new diseases, such as smallpox, flu, and malaria. Many of these
new diseases were gotten from animals, because those people living in an ... Show more content on

In Afro–Eurasian history, many conflicts between nomadic people and settled people existed, as the
people of the pastoral societies, who mostly depended on domesticated animals rather than farming
crops, became attracted to farming societies. The farming societies' fertile soil, many manufactured
products, and wide variety of growing crops made the people of pastoral societies become aware of
what the farming societies' technology and the government were like. However, not every encounter
between the farmers and the herders ended up in a conflict. These two groups also exchanged ideas,
technologies, and goods, which helped the societies to become more technologically or culturally
developed. This shows that the Neolithic society was more sophisticated than the Paleolithic
societies, which mostly were about hunting and gathering as a way of

Self Portrait : You Can 't Hold Me Back
J. Taylor
Self–portrait: You can 't hold me back
Mixed Media
2017
My self–portrait is titled "You can 't hold me back". It is a mixed media artwork. In this work, I am
standing in a burst of green, going against the blues, pinks and purples around me. The left half of
my face is a skeleton, while the right half is normal. My lungs are plain white, directly to the right,
with words that represent what makes me happy, and a butterfly wing that represents freedom, and
golden hands gently cupping them. Next to my lungs is my heart. It 's very bloodied, and all my
arteries and veins have been tied up, while the right side has a nail in it. Beneath my heart, silver
heads reach towards it. On the far right, my liver is being grasped, and ... Show more content on

I do hope to work on this though, so that I may share the stories that need to be told.
Humans have passions and feelings. My lungs represent those passions. My lungs are white because
they are pure. My lungs only have good intentions, they show what breathes life into me. One lung
contains words that show the things I love such as dreaming, drawing, learning or creating. The
other lung is the wing of a butterfly. Butterflies are amazing creatures who represent peace and
freedom. As humans, we are free and moral, that 's how we were made. I appreciate this freedom,
and use it to the best of my abilities to enjoy every second of life. The silver hands beneath my lungs
cup them gently, putting these pure intentions on a pedestal, giving them a higher priority.
My heart represents my feelings. Though I 'm generally a happy person, I sometimes don 't like to
show that. I could be having a great day, but my mouth sits in a position that makes me look sad. I
appreciate the fact that my friends have adjusted to this fact, and can tell when I 'm sad, and when I
'm neutral or happy. That being said, my heart can be broken easily. I 've never had a boyfriend, or
been in any sort of relationship of the sort because I don 't think high school relationships are worth
the trouble, because of this, I value my friendships a lot. My trust is fragile, after a friendship in the
past that hurt me a lot, I 've been a

What Makes A Person?
I want this paper to be towards kids and choice. What makes a person? I say what makes a person is
his or her surrounding influences. People that walk by and see me wouldn't be able to tell that I
come from a very low income family, also come from a neighborhood where both my neighbors on
my left and my right including the house in front of me were cook house (drug houses). Or that I
went to an elementary school where 98% of students are expected to drop out of high and not even
make it to college. Most people that know of kids that come from the same background as mine or
even worst are known to look down on as thugs or worthless...losers, but with good reason. Because
most of the time that's the outcome. Not me. I don't let where I come from effect who I am or who I
become in the future, why? Because I was influenced at a young age that I don't have to be a person
that's looked down upon like most people in my area, but that could be different and matter, with
that influence came a choice. A choice, were I could prove to those who think where I come from is
the bookmark in my future. Luckily for me, I had my mother who is my "super hero" that guided me
and gave the proper influence. But unfortunately not every kid growing up is given the right
influence. But what is influence? Influence is the capacity to have an effect on the character. When
kids are growing up they are learning thing from what the color of the sky is to learning what's right

Secular Life Analysis
I can truly say that writing this piece has been one of the hardest tasks. In writing, I discovered
things about myself that I had difficulty in coming to terms with; how do I write what I really feel
without worrying about what others might think, I thought. I wrote a lot and erased a lot more, over
and over again. I feared the judgement of people, for in my life I have experienced rejection,
negative looks, insults, and alienation due to my faith. I decided to write about this very personal
subject because I am tired of people expressing their secular views and blaming Christianity for all
kinds of problems, then looking at me like if I am part of why the world is going down the drain. I
came to the conclusion that I will remain strong in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This society has reached the point where life no longer has any value, no rules and is sensitized to
violence and cruelty. Politics of the extreme left and far right have only polarized our society even
more. In the issue of abortion an innocent life can be taken legally, like when the germans killed
Jews legally, like when blacks were lynched here legally. At one point abortion was illegal and now
it is not, now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is not bad
then why hide it? And if we are so sexualized, then why are we not responsible for the side effects
of one night stands and unplanned pregnancies? If I tell my friends to not have an abortion they look
at me like I am crazy, as if it is normal to kill their babies with or without remorse or consequences
because it is legal. In this world, ending a life is just a phone call away and a trip to the murder's
office, with the butcher that calls himself a doctor. How can this world implore me to accept their
ways if the reality is that it leads to broken people, to babies killing babies and babies having babies,
but its all good because freedom does not foresee consequence.
Just like Martin Luther King Jr. I have a dream for a better tomorrow for our children and all
humanity. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day on the

Rivka Horowitz: A Symbol Of Peace
Rivka Horowitz was a true paradigm of strength at a time when giving in was the popular method.
She stayed strong in her Jewish beliefs which meant always making sure to do the right thing. She
stayed strong emotionally when it came the time to help others. Rivka became a symbol of strength
and goodness for people to turn to when they were in need of help. She was proof that the Nazis had
not succeeded with their promise of "judenrein".
At a very vigorous selection one time, Rivka followed her friends into the line of death refusing to
have them be left alone. She convinced the girls to get back into the selection to be revaluated. They
were sent to the line of death again. Rivka was not one to give up over. When it comes to helping
someone else or saving a life her motto was "Try everything as many times as needed"! Rivka
would not leave the group that was sent to the left. The girls were put into a block that was a one–
way ticket to the gas chambers. There Rivka was the one that gave them all hope that they would get
out. This was how she lived; helping, encouraging, and saving. She was the strength for those

Tiny Tumblers Research Paper
[In lesson 1, Math Mountains are introduced in a fun, creative way using a story about Tiny
Tumblers. Math Mountains are triangular visual representations similar to number bonds. The Math
Mountain number is displayed as the big total on top of the mountain and the Tiny Tumblers are the
two partners that are added to the bottom left and right of the mountain. It visually relates the two
partners to the total. Tiny Tumblers represent an imaginative way for students to visualize the
addition of numbers. If the total represented on a Math Mountain is 10, 7 Tiny Tumblers might play

Hope In Elie Wiesel's Night
This section of the book proved to be one of the most suspenseful and thrilling parts of Nyiszli's
nightmare. I didn't expect him to survive, but at the same time, how would he write this book? I
worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come
home without his wife or child. Without any money, he would not be able to afford anything back at
home. With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come back
to. Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All in all, I
enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he would
spend the rest of his days and sadness, but with hope, miracles can happen.
I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold
weather, the unrelenting march, and the little food and sleep, he able to defy all odds and survive.
Unfortunately, his friends would all perish after the madness of the crematoriums and the forced

U.s. Foreign Policy : Global Power For Recent History
The United States (US) has been the major global power for recent history – they have been labelled
as the superpower and many smaller, developing nations have looked to the US for assistance in
times of crisis. Following this, it is no secret that US foreign policy revolves heavily on maintaining
its global influence and leadership so as to secure US interests and promote compatible values.
However, today's world of globalisation has proved to be difficult for the US – their 'superpower'
status is being contested as national debt spiral upwards and the most devoted patriarchs of the US
begin to focus more closely on domestic affairs. The reality is that the US is drowning in national
debt and excessive budget deficits, sparking heated debate about government spending. According
to Pentagon estimates, the corollary is that the US military budget will be cut by at least 8% in the
next ten years. This called for a re–evaluation of current foreign affairs strategies, and in 2010
resulted in President Obama's plan to 'Pivot to Asia' looking to shift focus from the Middle East to
Asia in order to bolster US defence ties within the region. It is argued that strategic thinkers who
view Asia of greater importance to the US than the Middle East have a skewed perception of the
world and is unaware of the repercussions on US interests. This essay will seek to outline by
contrasting arguments that the 'Pivot' to Asia is one that is necessary but will require co–operation
by the US to

I want you to imagine being 12 years old. You came to school one day and saw your name scrawled
all over the school toilet doors, accompanied by the terms "faggot, gay and disgusting". I want you
now to stand in the shoes of Jake, an 11 year old transgender boy. You are currently being racially
slurred, beaten up and spat on by your 'mates', who discovered you were a "tranny." I want you to
stand on Ben's point of view. And think, what if your coach kicked you out of your football team
simply because you weren't "masculine" enough for the sport? Finally, I want you to become Jane, a

Georgia a bright, cheery 7th grader, who just like you and me had a loving family and a favourite
icecream flavour, committed suicide on Thursday the 25th of May 2017, a day that couldn't be more
ordinary for each and every one of us sitting here. But for LGBTI students, every single day is filled
to the brim with inequality and danger.
Ladies and Gentlemen, over a tenth of our society is made up of the LGBTI ( the Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex) community. In 2010, the Safe Schools Coalition Australia was
founded, this establishment brought hope and protection to hundreds upon thousands of students
experiencing bullying. However, being the nation we are, extreme right wing bigots are attempting
to withdraw this life–saving initiative from nationwide primary and secondary schools.
I ask you, how is the sexuality of LGBTI children any different to our diversity in hair colour ? (is
this a good example)? In Australia, we are proud of our individuality and celebrate our differences.
So, why is something so valuable, so integral to our society used an excuse for the discrimination
and degradation of others? Why is it that right wing bigots and conservative MP's are starving
vulnerable children of protection and safety?
Our opposition complains relentlessly about how the safe schools' approach is controversial and
ideological, accusing the initiative of promoting a radical view of gender

Why Do Artists Use Greco Roman Ideals?
Paul Parra
Ms. Busoni
Art History 2
26 April 2015
Why do Artists use Greco–Roman ideals in their works of art? Artists use Greco–Roman ideals in
their works of art to show an example of what their societies must have in order to be as successful
as those from antiquity. Greek humanism is a Greek ideal that focused on human beings rather than
religious deities and it placed human beings at the center of moral and social concerns (Cline). This
can be seen in Raphael's School Of Athens (figure 1) where Raphael uses Greek humanism to show
that a stable society cannot exist without the help of knowledge rather than just relying on religion.
This can also be seen in David's Lictors Bring to Brutus the Bodies of his Sons (figure 2) where
David uses Greek humanism to show that human beings, not just the gods, are able to make moral
decisions to help benefit society. Raphael uses the School of Athens to show that a stable society
cannot exist without the help of knowledge rather than just relying on religion. In the work of art
there are 3 main groups of people, one located in the bottom right, the other located in the bottom
left, and the other extends in the middle from the left side all the way to the right side. Raphael
portrays an assembly of some of the greatest philosophers of antiquity because during the
Renaissance, scholars believed that the philosophies of antiquity were the pinnacle of human
understanding (Casini). Some of these philosophers include Plato and

The inverted u curve has three levels of input; the left side is equivalent to a sufficient amount, the
middle consists of a plateau, and the right side entails too much. The meaning of an inverted U–
curve is basically what we in society classify as the highs and lows in any given situation. For
example, in every category of life just to name a few the stock market, schooling, work, finances,

Japan 's War Crimes During The World War II
Introduction: Nowadays, Japanese animes are becoming increasingly famous, and America is not an
exception for anime's gigantic worldwide fandom. Animes, such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and
Attack on Titan, are the main leaders of the anime wave sweeping all over the world. Nevertheless,
many Japanese animes are often criticized at the same time for employing the idea of neo–
nationalism or indirectly mentioning justifications for Japan's war crimes during the World War II.
Although they are not really noticeable to most of the audience, the author of a famous anime,
Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama demonstrated that such neo–nationalist factors actually exist in
animes when he showed a strong support towards Japan's past aggressive wars and colonialism in
his SNS. However, not all animes are showing support towards neo–nationalism in Japan. An
anime, Terror in Resonance, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, not only criticizes Japan's war crimes
during the World War II, but also condemns current Japanese government's policies encouraging
neo–nationalism. The anime well demonstrates that the neo–nationalist movement in Japan is not
Japan's own problem, but it is rather a serious international problem that will affect Japan's
relationship with other countries. Furthermore, the anime focuses on increasing people's awareness
on unjustifiable neo–nationalist movement of Japanese government. Although many right winged

How Far Do The Benefits Of Ex-Offenders
Each individual in this universe has committed an error at some point. Individuals need to forgive
and never look back. Individuals do things not realizing that they are pernicious and belittling. And
in stern time, everybody deserves another opportunity in life. In generally these renewed
opportunities are not given. Another opportunity resembles a present for individuals who commit
errors. It permits them to gain from their first oversight and make a superior showing with regard to
the second time around. The principal issues to consider here is the reason we imprison individuals.
We imprison ex–offenders to expel them from society, to keep them carrying out further mistakes,
one type of prevention. We imprison ex–offenders as a type of societal requital, albeit few
individual will concede that. When we give them another opportunity or imprison them to restore
them, so that when they are discharged, they can be better individuals from society. Therefore,
Family likewise has basic impact in restoring ex–offenders. Knowing from the start that has the full

Analysis Of Ossian Heroes
Ossian Receiving the Ghosts of French Heroes Anne–Louis Girodet Trioson DeRoisy's painting
Ossian Receiving the Ghosts of French Heroes depicts a combination of history and allegory with
references to the bard's work; romantic themes underlay a classical technique. "The painting is
composed of, essentially, four groups of people: the triumphant French generals and soldiers at the
right, Ossian and the warriors from Morven stoically welcoming them at the left, behind and below
these, Stamo, in a paroxysm of rage, with the warriors of Lochlin, the traditional enemies of
Morven, reflecting his anger, and all surrounded by maidens of Flaxmanesque crystal welcoming
the French with flowers, music, and wine" (Okun). The legendary Celtic bard Ossian ... Show more

Having chosen to create an Ossianic piece to please Napoleon, Girodet combined the historic poems
of Ossian with contemporary themes, combining his Classical training with Romantic themes. "The
upper zone is dominated by elements of overt allegory after Hennequin ... in the floating
personification of republican liberty and the victory of a Gallic cock over an Austrian eagle" (Art in
the Age of Revolution). Due to the somewhat bizarre juxtaposition of Classical technique and
Romantic meaning, as well as it being released after the cessation of certain themes, the painting
had mixed reviews upon its entrance into the Salon. "The painting celebrates the signing of the
treaty of Luneville on 9 February 1801 which introduced the Paix Continentale–peace between
Austria and France while the hostilities with England continued. The victorious French with their
symbolic cock and flying victory are welcomed by the proudly defeated Austrians with their eagle
while England, Stamo, tries to interfere." (Okun). However, this meaning was lost upon its viewers,
as before the painting was exhibited, the Treaty of Aimens was signed on March 25th, 1802,
establishing peace with England. "Not only had [Girodet] intended to show the apotheosis of the
French generals but also to celebrate Napoleon's role as a peacemaker and it was this hidden but all
important meaning of his work that escaped his contemporaries"

Why Do Olympic Games Go Too Far?
I tried to write about a topic that was too broad in a previous English class. I wanted to write about a
topic that I was interested in, so I tried to write about the Olympic games. Unfortunately, the
Olympic games are comprised of two sets of games: the ancient games and the modern games. I
tried to write about both, and it was a total disaster since the games cover multiple centuries. It was
way too much information for an English paper of a maximum of five pages.
I think it's important to narrow a topic for an essay so that you can answer a question, add to a
debate, or just have focus in your writing. It helps you get from point A to point B easily so that the
reader can follow without any distractions. I think that asking who, what, where, why, and when, as
we saw in the video, could help narrow the topic for the essay next week.
I have always struggled with finding a topic to write about that wasn't too broad, and I haven't ever
really found a solution for this. I think using pre–writing, as I learned earlier this semester, may help
with that, potentially the double–entry journal, and asking who, what, ... Show more content on

I know I was always worried about having enough material to cover. I was also always worried that
I wouldn't be able to fulfill the page requirements for whatever paper I was writing. I think that
going back and asking who, what, where, why, and when is the easiest approach to narrow the topic
down. I hope that will be helpful since that is the approach I plan to use. In addition to that, I think
looking at primary materials, or historic materials, before looking at secondary materials, or
materials that others have written about the topic, will be helpful as well. And finally, I think finding
an argument within the topic, or something currently being contested will help narrow it down

Can you explain the success of far–right parties in Western Europe with an increasing number of
immigrants? In your answer, consider countries with a smaller and with a larger share of
immigrants.
The year 2014 can be recognized as the beginning of the migrant crisis in Europe when thousands of
immigrants crossed European borders (Metcalfe–Hough, 2015). Also during last few years, many
far–right–parties in Europe has been successful. While some persuasive explanations are used to
explain that growing support for far–right parties, with growing migration problems, some atypical
country units drew my attention. In my work, I focus on country units (states, and constituencies)
with a small number of immigrants to check why the support is so ... Show more content on

Although the first solution seems to be the most reasonable, in practice is very risky. People tend to
blame ruling for ineffective policies rather than objects of these policies' interests, here immigrants
(Karapin, 1998: p. 49–51). Their disappointment is usually expressed in voting (Karapin, 1998: p.
49–51). Thus, according to the last migrant crisis, most of the Western European countries with the
biggest wave of immigrants faced the growing salience of far–right issues followed by their
reinforcement. That was because mainstream parties and governments had to respond to that new
situation. Consequently, that strengthen the position of these parties, because the importance of their
arguments was proven. For instance, in Germany, which had in 2015 476,620 asylum claims
(Eurostat, 2017) in last parliamentary elections (2017) CDU/CSU gained only 32.9%, whereas AfD,
founded in 2013(???), gained 12.6%(Clarkes, 2017: pp.???). In France which has 76,165 asylum
claims(Eurostat, 2017), relatively high support can be observed even in last presidential elections,
when Le Pen gained 33.9% (loemond). At the same time, in counties where the share of immigrants
was smaller, there was no need, for mainstream parties to touch upon far–right issues. It has led to
smaller support for radical parties. In Portugal, where in 2015 were only 895 asylum claims
(Eurostat, 2017), as well as in Luxembourg – 2,505 (Eurostat, 2017) far–right parties

wo opposites, fire and water, are both needed to sustain human life. Even with their differences, they
also share some similarities, much like East Asia and the Middle East. In the 1900's, East Asia was
not facing active colonization, resulting in it being more peaceful than other surrounding regions –
one of those regions being the Middle East, which had to deal with religious and ethnic tension, in
turn, being reflected in their writing. Compared to the Middle East, East Asian literature conveys a
more optimistic tone due to less intense oppression as opposed to that of which Middle Easterners
underwent, but still touches on some similarities common with the Middle East. The Middle East
and East Asia both use the themes of unification, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story "The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket" helps show how both regions had an appreciation
for everything, be it big or small. "Most of the lanterns were beautiful square ones which the
children had made themselves with love and care"(159). This shows that even though they lacked
many things, they still appreciated what they had, even if it was small. The Middle Eastern poem
"Identity Card" also shows this theme. "My house... made of sticks and reeds"(80) shows the small
amount that the Palestinians in the Middle East had and how they were able to appreciate it before it
was all taken away from them. The East Asian poem "One Step" shows the theme of admiration as
well, however this time it is the appreciation of time. "The child has learned to talk to walls...
dotage, only one step away."(146) shows the passing of time and how, in a blink of an eye, a child
would have experienced their whole life and become feeble and old. This shows the acceptance of
the East Asian people that life is quick and their appreciation towards what they already had. Both
East Asia and the Middle East used first person point of view as well, although each having a

Pros And Cons Of Extremism The Bane For Our Society

  • 1. Pros And Cons Of Extremism The Bane For Our Society Extremism: The Bane for Our Society We are standing against each other, with our faces at opposite ends. We need not learn from one–another, for we both are enlightened. The sparking light that illuminates us has blinded our eyes. Our ears covered by thick curtains of established ideologies For strangers now we are; Our hearts have turned to stones On cadaver of humanism, humanity sits and mourns But; who we are? We are the flag bearers of self righteousness. Extremism is the bud that sprouts from the sown seeds of egotism, discontentment, inequality, injustice and finally self righteousness. Dictionaries and encyclopedias generally define it as deviation from existing moral standards. But the definition is far more complex. Extremism, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanism, kindness, love, empathy and tolerance are a few among noble moral traits. These are the traits which are "essential goodness of human heart". Without these traits, man is no better than a beast. As Sir Francis Bacon puts; "Goodness, I call the habit; and goodness of nature, the inclination. This of all the virtues and dignity of mind is the greatest; being the character of the Deity: and without it man is a busy, mischievous and wretched thing; no better than a kind of vermin" William Huxley in his essay "Adonis and the Alphabet" regarding prevalence of non humanitarian attitude towards animal species relates a story of twelfth century, where blessed saint Sesilia shows us an ugly picture of the church when one day, St. Dominic was preaching to his disciples of her convent when a sparrow began to fly in the air, hopping over their heads. No sister annoyed but St. Dominic asked one of them to catch it. St. Dominic relentlessly started plucking sparrow's feathers while saying; you wretch, you rouge!!!" amidst laughter from brothers and sisters and many doleful screams from the dying sparrow. Undoubtedly, miserable that is! But more miserable is the time when assassins are started to be identified as "Sons of the nation". And when the whole world, including us, while holding flags of morality, follow the policy of selective criticism and selective condemnation of brutes across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative: Son Or Daughter Son or Daughter, It's February 1st, 2016 and the weather outside seems like it's already summer with a nice 70 degrees and slight wind, although tomorrow we are supposed to get some snow. That's pretty normal for Oklahoma weather. The world is pretty different than it was when I was a kid, now everybody seems to have cell phones and smartphones. Seems like nobody can go anywhere without their phones now, it's an essential thing for everyday life. I had a flip phone when I was in 7th grade for emergencies only, now elementary schoolers have smartphones. Another thing about me is that I got my first car when I was 16, a black 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L. Anyone growing up around me at this time could tell you that I absolutely fell in love with that car. I never had a choice picking that car, but I ended up adoring it with all of my heart, before, I used to think that Volkswagens were for girls but I was sadly mistaken. Around one year ago I wrecked that beautiful car into the ditch behind the school jumbotron and was the laughing stock of the school for a while, please don't drive too stupidly when you're young, I know you will or probably already have, but please just be careful, you don't want your license taken away or your only mode of transportation taken away from you at such a young age. Anyways, I still kept the car after that wreck, Dad was nice enough to pay for all of the damage I did to it, a nice four or five thousand dollars worth of damage that I'm almost done paying him off for. I still have it right now at the end of my Senior year and I'm glad that I kept it because I've spent too much personal amount of money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Hate Speech Revolutions have been fought and won thanks to enraged people who have gathered together to contest injustice. To illustrate, when the debate over Jim Crow laws ruled the south, college students (black and white) resorted to civil disobedience by sitting in dinners reserved for "whites only" and held protests on college campuses. Such demonstrations served in solidarity for the cause of civil rights amount the races. Historically, students have been at the forefront of fighting injustices in the United States; therefore, the fight against hate speech is not the exception. This duty has been handed down over generations. Consequently, students will continue to stand in solidarity to denounce what they think is unjust and hold demonstrations to protest hate. Although the radical left should denounce injustice, they tend to forget the historical importance of freedom of speech. It is important to realize that, "abolitionists, labor activists; religious group minorities, communists and socialists, cultural critics, gays, and lesbians..." all were victims of limited free speech.(We Must Help College Students Understand the Importance of Free Speech Pg. 2) Perhaps the lack of historical understanding of free speech from the radical left is fathomable. However, a lack of historical knowledge on such an important right remains unacceptable. Although, the events that shaped our forefathers' unbreakable respect for our first amendment were of high importance, such as the civil rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Volunteerism Before explaining the concepts of liminality and Othering and their connection to volunteerism, I will first explain how volunteerism is scientifically defined and approached. The term volunteerism is a coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. Stebbins and Graham (2004) define volunteerism as volunteering "in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve the aiding or alleviating the material poverty of some groups in society, the restoration of certain environments or research into aspects of society or environment (Stebbins and Graham 2004, 211). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of liminality was first introduced in the field of anthropology by Van Gennep (1909). He described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their social status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back their new status at the end. After Van Gennep's work on the concept there was a long period of silence around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep's ideas for his interpretation of liminality. He started to apply liminality to small–scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are "neither here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom, convention, and ceremony" (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal communities within which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is the hippies who, according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines liminality as following: "Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural assertions, but as in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure possibility whence novel configurations of ideas and relations may arise" (Turner 1967: 97). Coincidentally, Orientalism came to be such a complex and deep concept which Said devotes his entire book in discussing about it. His book – Orientalism unfolds the history of the Orientalism, reveals the "dark" side of an orientalist's mind and describes the different dimensions of Orientalism. He also attempts to expose the truth of the Orient, which he warned that: "One ought never to assume that the structure of Orientalism is nothing more than a structures of lies or of myths, which were the truth about them to be told, would simply blow away" (Said). Said reinforces his argument about knowledge and power once again by referring to the quote by Cromer "knowledge gives power, more power requires more knowledge, and so on in an increasingly profitable dialectic of information and control (Said 36).Thus, Knowledge serves as a powerful tool to allow the West to explore, control and govern the "Other". Consequently, knowledge about the Orient is the start and the result of European domination, possession, and rationalization of the Orient, as one shall see in the following paragraphs. Watching the Solution to the Jewish Question from Afar If you lived in the time of the Holocaust and you were a non–Jewish person, would you want to take the chance of fighting back and having the consequences of your actions affect the lives of your family? Or would you just "go with the flow" and stand back as the Jewish people were punished? This is a question that people in this time had to ask themselves. Some decided to take the chance and fight back, but many did not. Most people, who had families to think about, chose to stand back from what was happening. Honestly, the non–Jewish people who chose to stand back had every right to make this decision for themselves and their families. Although the decision that was made by these people can be explained, some may not see it that way. Some may see it that the people who chose to stand back were simply being weak or that they were immoral. They could've fought back if they wanted to, but they chose otherwise. They chose what could be looked at as the, "easy way out". Another side to this could be that not everyone had a family to think about, and those who did have a family could have acted in a way that didn't get them involved. They should've thought that maybe if they spoke out then other people would be more willing to stand up for what was right. If the thought that one person can't make a change crossed their mind then they should've tried to get more people together to fight back; they should've tried to take a stand. Introduction: Advertising is any paid form of non–personal communication about an organization, good, service or idea by an identified sponsor (Berkowitz, Crane, Kerin, Hartley, & Rudelius, 494). Advertisements are displayed through various means to a large audience. They can be found on the Internet, in a magazine, or even on the highway. Advertisements are everywhere! Their main goal is to grab the consumer's attention about a specific good, service or institution. To achieve this goal, advertisers use an assortment of techniques. One type of reminder advertising is reinforcement advertising. Reinforcement advertising may be used to assure current users that they made the right choice. There are numerous arguments about the moral values of advertising and advertising's effect on society. Advertising is sometimes viewed as manipulative. Manipulative advertising is portrayed as advertising that tries to favorably alter consumer's perceptions of the advertised product by appeals to factors other than the product's physical attributes and functional performance (Lippke, 5). Some people see this form of advertising as a necessary evil while others do not. Those for manipulative advertising, like Theodore Levitt, argue that people have deep needs for hopes, illusions and fantasies that advertising sells (Lippke, 14). • 14. Scourging Of The Four Martyrs Summary Niccolo di Pietro Gerini's Scourging of the Four Crowned Martyrs (1385–90) depicts a scene in which four martyrs are pursued by a group of men with some scourging tool (which resembles a modern–day rake). A late Gothic painting in which Gerini depicts a Catholic story of the Four Crowned Martyrs, the Scourging incorporates much of the static, stiff forms which are characteristic of the period's prevailing style. In the painting, one can notice clear divisions of space, distinct separations of forms within that space, and emphases on the men doing the scourging within that space as a function of where the light is directed in the painting. An analysis of these three key elements of the painting suggests a cohesive assertion about the way the painting's subjects are depicted within the image. Initially it seems apparent that the four martyrs are depicted in a negative manner with the scourging men taking precedence. However, an analysis beyond the obvious elements – particularly the figure suspended in the air and the devilish figures attacking the scourging men – suggest that the four martyrs are actually being depicted in a more positive light. A brief discussion of the subject matter of the painting serves as an important starting point. The most obvious subjects, as suggested by the title of the piece, are the four crowned martyrs. Gertrude Bell 's Persian Pictures : A Study Of The Landscape Hassan Al–Kalo Student No. 201209804 Module No. 14124 Oriental Eyes in Gertrude Bell's Persian Pictures: A study of the Landscape This essay is an attempt to investigate how the Eastern landscape has been othered by the West through inspecting Gertrude Bell's travel book Persian Pictures (1894). The essay adopts Edwa rd Said's concept of Orientalism to highlight the western ideology of othering the foreign landscape. The crux of 'Orientalism', being the vehicle of studying the colonial conflicts and the cultural hegemony, demarcates the European's map road of dealing with the Other. It is one–sided ideology that reflects the Westerners' views of the Orient as they have imagined it to be. I aim in this essay to scrutinise Bells' narration of using the male voice in tackling the landscape in the texts under investigation. The abundant reports, literary narratives, and the variety of representations of the early travellers, present the Orient as strange, eccentric, savage, hostile, irrational, exotic, and mysterious, that has unresolved secrets, alien creatures, sensational women, monstrous and beast–like people. Said claims that it is sufficient for 'us' [Orientalists] to 'set up these boundaries in our minds', and 'both the Other's territory and their mentality' have been 'designated as different from "ours"' (Said, 2003: 54). The essence of Orientalism in its true form, is to define the non–European and his landscape as the Other. This process could only be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the Agricultural Revolution brought efficient ways of obtaining food, farming was still a hard work, and as a result, it took a toll on people's health. Tooth decay and anemia were common, since there was a smaller variety of foods to be obtained, and that food might not have given the people all the nutrition they required. Such deficiencies in their diet meant that the people did not develop as well as they could have, so they were general small in stature. Math Mountains are triangular visual representations similar to number bonds. The Math Mountain number is displayed as the big total on top of the mountain and the Tiny Tumblers are the two partners that are added to the bottom left and right of the mountain. It visually relates the two partners to the total. Tiny Tumblers represent an imaginative way for students to visualize the addition of numbers. If the total represented on a Math Mountain is 10, 7 Tiny Tumblers might play on the left side of the mountain and 3 play on the right side to show 7 and 3 as partners of 10. I didn't expect him to survive, but at the same time, how would he write this book? I worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come home without his wife or child. Without any money, he would not be able to afford anything back at home. With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come back to. Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All in all, I enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he would spend the rest of his days and sadness, but with hope, miracles can happen. I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold weather, the unrelenting march, and the little food and sleep, he able to defy all odds and survive. • 26. U.s. Foreign Policy : Global Power For Recent History The United States (US) has been the major global power for recent history – they have been labelled as the superpower and many smaller, developing nations have looked to the US for assistance in times of crisis. Following this, it is no secret that US foreign policy revolves heavily on maintaining its global influence and leadership so as to secure US interests and promote compatible values. However, today's world of globalisation has proved to be difficult for the US – their 'superpower' status is being contested as national debt spiral upwards and the most devoted patriarchs of the US begin to focus more closely on domestic affairs. The reality is that the US is drowning in national debt and excessive budget deficits, sparking heated debate about government spending. According to Pentagon estimates, the corollary is that the US military budget will be cut by at least 8% in the next ten years. This called for a re–evaluation of current foreign affairs strategies, and in 2010 resulted in President Obama's plan to 'Pivot to Asia' looking to shift focus from the Middle East to Asia in order to bolster US defence ties within the region. It is argued that strategic thinkers who view Asia of greater importance to the US than the Middle East have a skewed perception of the world and is unaware of the repercussions on US interests. • 29. Why Do Artists Use Greco Roman Ideals? Paul Parra Ms. Busoni Art History 2 26 April 2015 Why do Artists use Greco–Roman ideals in their works of art? Artists use Greco–Roman ideals in their works of art to show an example of what their societies must have in order to be as successful as those from antiquity. Greek humanism is a Greek ideal that focused on human beings rather than religious deities and it placed human beings at the center of moral and social concerns (Cline). This can be seen in Raphael's School Of Athens (figure 1) where Raphael uses Greek humanism to show that a stable society cannot exist without the help of knowledge rather than just relying on religion. This can also be seen in David's Lictors Bring to Brutus the Bodies of his Sons (figure 2) where David uses Greek humanism to show that human beings, not just the gods, are able to make moral decisions to help benefit society. Raphael uses the School of Athens to show that a stable society cannot exist without the help of knowledge rather than just relying on religion. In the work of art there are 3 main groups of people, one located in the bottom right, the other located in the bottom left, and the other extends in the middle from the left side all the way to the right side. Raphael portrays an assembly of some of the greatest philosophers of antiquity because during the Renaissance, scholars believed that the philosophies of antiquity were the pinnacle of human understanding (Casini). Animes, such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and Attack on Titan, are the main leaders of the anime wave sweeping all over the world. Nevertheless, many Japanese animes are often criticized at the same time for employing the idea of neo– nationalism or indirectly mentioning justifications for Japan's war crimes during the World War II. Although they are not really noticeable to most of the audience, the author of a famous anime, Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama demonstrated that such neo–nationalist factors actually exist in animes when he showed a strong support towards Japan's past aggressive wars and colonialism in his SNS. However, not all animes are showing support towards neo–nationalism in Japan. An anime, Terror in Resonance, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, not only criticizes Japan's war crimes during the World War II, but also condemns current Japanese government's policies encouraging neo–nationalism. The anime well demonstrates that the neo–nationalist movement in Japan is not Japan's own problem, but it is rather a serious international problem that will affect Japan's relationship with other countries. Individuals do things not realizing that they are pernicious and belittling. And in stern time, everybody deserves another opportunity in life. In generally these renewed opportunities are not given. Another opportunity resembles a present for individuals who commit errors. It permits them to gain from their first oversight and make a superior showing with regard to the second time around. We imprison ex–offenders as a type of societal requital, albeit few individual will concede that. "The painting is composed of, essentially, four groups of people: the triumphant French generals and soldiers at the right, Ossian and the warriors from Morven stoically welcoming them at the left, behind and below these, Stamo, in a paroxysm of rage, with the warriors of Lochlin, the traditional enemies of Morven, reflecting his anger, and all surrounded by maidens of Flaxmanesque crystal welcoming the French with flowers, music, and wine" (Okun). Due to the somewhat bizarre juxtaposition of Classical technique and Romantic meaning, as well as it being released after the cessation of certain themes, the painting had mixed reviews upon its entrance into the Salon. "The painting celebrates the signing of the treaty of Luneville on 9 February 1801 which introduced the Paix Continentale–peace between Austria and France while the hostilities with England continued. The victorious French with their symbolic cock and flying victory are welcomed by the proudly defeated Austrians with their eagle while England, Stamo, tries to interfere." (Okun). Their disappointment is usually expressed in voting (Karapin, 1998: p. 49–51). Thus, according to the last migrant crisis, most of the Western European countries with the biggest wave of immigrants faced the growing salience of far–right issues followed by their reinforcement. That was because mainstream parties and governments had to respond to that new situation. Consequently, that strengthen the position of these parties, because the importance of their arguments was proven. For instance, in Germany, which had in 2015 476,620 asylum claims (Eurostat, 2017) in last parliamentary elections (2017) CDU/CSU gained only 32.9%, whereas AfD, founded in 2013(???), gained 12.6%(Clarkes, 2017: pp.???).
