This document discusses different types of computer memory. It describes primary memory, which is memory that a processor can access directly and is used to run processes. The main types of primary memory are RAM and cache memory. Secondary memory refers to external storage devices and includes magnetic disks like hard drives, optical disks like CDs and DVDs, and flash drives. Specific examples of each type are provided along with brief descriptions.
5. PRIMARY MEMORY
Primary memory is computer
memory that a processor or
computer accesses first or
directly. It allows a processor to
access running execution
applications and services that
are temporarily stored in a
specific memory location.
Primary memory is also known
as primary storage or main
memory

8. TYPES OF RAM
Dynamic random ACCESS MEMORY
(DRAM) is a type of random-access
memory used in computing devices
(primarily PCs). DRAM stores each bit of
data in a separate passive electronic
component that is inside an integrated
circuit board
Static Random ACCESS MEMORY (Static
RAM or SRAM) is a type of RAM that holds
data in a static form, that is, as long as the
memory has power. Unlike dynamic RAM, it
does not need to be refreshed.

9. CACHE MEMORY
Cache memory is a chip-based computer component that makes retrieving data from the
computer's memory more efficient. It acts as a temporary storage area that the computer's
processor can retrieve data from easily. This temporary storage area, known as a cache.

10. SECONDARY MEMORY
Secondary memory is also termed as external memory and refers to the various storage media
on which a computer can store data and programs. The Secondary storage media can be fixed
or removable. Fixed Storage media is an internal storage medium like hard disk that is fixed
inside the computer.

11. TYPES OF SRCONDARY MEMORY
Magnetic disk
A magnetic disk is a
storeage device that use a
magnetization process to
write, rewrite and access
data.Hard disk, zip disk
and floppy disk are
common example of
magnetic disk.
Optical disk
An optical disk is any
computer disk that uses
optical storage
techniques and
technology to read and
write data.
Flash drive
A USB flash drive is a
data storage device that
include flash memory
with an integrated USB
interface. It is typically
removable, rewritable
and much smallerthan an
optical disc.

12. TYPES OF MAGNETIC DISK
HARD DRIVE
The hard drive is whereb the
computer’s operating system
and program are stored.
FLOPPY DISK
The floppy disk drive, also
known as diskette, is a
removable magnetic storage
medium that allows
recording of data
TAPE
A tape drive is data storage
devices that read and write
data on amagnetic
tape.Magnetic tape storage
is typically used for offline,
archieval data storage

13. TYPES OF OPTICAL DISK
CD ROM
Compact disk read
only memory drive
were amongthe first
disk-based drive for
the modern personal
computer.
DVD ROM
Digital versatile disk
read only memory
drive are the direct
evolution from CD-
ROM drives
BLU-RAY
Blu ray are the latest
optical drives available
today . Blu-ray drives
and disks can process
large amount of data

14. TYPES OF FLASH DRIVE
Multimedia card
MMC is a tiny memory cardv that
uses flash memory to make storage
portable among various devices
such as digital camera, music player
and personal computer
SECURE DIGITAL
SD is a flash memory card formate
and is used for storage. It is used for
camera and smart phone
