Steven Hirst Research Paper
Damien Steven Hirst is an English conceptual and installation artist. One of the richest artist in the
United Kingdom, an estimated £215 million. Born on June 7, 1965, Bristol, England, a member of
and most prominent of a group named Young British Artists. A group of visual artists that began to
exhibit together in London. They dominated the art scene in the United Kingdom during the 1990s.
He studied at Goldsmiths, University in London from '86 to '89. During Hirst's second year
Goldsmiths College, he organized an independent student exhibition called Freeze. The lines
between life and death were often the main theme in most Hirst's work. Infamous for having
artworks that include dead animals, cows, sheeps, and a shark. For this reason, Hirst ... Show more

The artwork is currently sitting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The tiger
shark was caught at Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia, which costed Hirst £6,000. The entire
artwork ended up with a total of £50,000. The shark quickly embedded itself in the national psyche
as an icon of everything that was good – or bad – about contemporary art, depending on your
viewpoint (Sarah Kent). For most people, this shark was the icon of everything that is bad about
contemporary art, if you can call it that. Does this man go out of his way to hunt a wonderful
creature as the tiger shark? Slaughtering animals for no other reason, but so use them in art is
despicable. Strong emotions are going through many individual's minds on Hirst's work, either good
or bad. For this reason, Hirst was dubbed the "bad boy" of British art and scarcely a week went by
without an article appearing in the press outlining his outrageous behavior (Kent). This exhibition is
touching on the subject matter of death, with death itself in the "art". An individual who might
admire the work would look that this and say that having a creature that can possibly end your life
within seconds, just frozen in time is something to reflect on. Which can be a valid argument, but
numerous of individuals wouldn't come to an agreement with the need of the slaughtering of a
wonderful being, such as the tiger

Pop Art In The 1960s
Years following World War II, the United States enjoyed an unprecedented period of economic and
political growth. The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality
for African Americans, and the women's liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment
stepped into the new level with the monumental "super stars" such as Elis Presley led the emergence
of Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the
dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a "cultural revolution" was underway,
led by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their
eyes, a stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to "popular" of the
world, the new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the
world around them, representing–and, at times, making art directly from–everyday items, consumer
goods, and mass media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and
celebrity culture; it brought the popular world–from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas–
into the realm of high art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of
turbulence, experimentation, and consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain
and America in the mid– to late–1950s. They did this in a straightforward manner, using bold swaths
of primary colors, often

The Exorcist Is One Wacky Series
The Exorcist franchise is one wacky series. You had the amazing original film, which was one of the
most intense horror films to come out at the time. Then, X years later we got the crazy, shitty
Exorcist II: The Heretic, that had James Earl Jones flying on the back of a bug through the desert or
something equally stupid. It wasn 't until X years later that we finally got a proper sequel, The
Exorcist III, but that too was plagued with issues, with both Director/Author William Peter Blatty
and the studio not agreeing on what they wanted as a final product. I haven 't even mentioned the
even crazier Exorcist: The Beginning, directed by Renny Harlin, which was later re–released as the
slightly superior version Dominion: Prequel to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the book tells you that Detective Kinderman was a big time friend with Karras, but
honestly, I never felt that when reading the original The Exorcist novel.
The story behind Legion focuses on a murder investigation involving the deceased Gemini Killer
and Kinderman trying to figure who exactly is behind these most recent killings, which bear the true
MO of the Gemini Killer. He eventually ends up interviewing a psych patient who says he is the
Gemini Killer, but when Kinderman visits him, he is completely thrown for a loop when he sees the
definitely should be dead Father Damien Karras, who is being possessed by the Killer. The rest of
the novel, unfortunately, features pages and pages of Blatty 's theories on evaluation and random
nonsense that has nothing to do with the main story. Honestly, the book ended up being awful
because of that.
When 1990 was approaching, a sequel to The Exorcist was being demanded. Blatty came on as
writer/director and went to work adapting his once screenplay, now book, Legion. The original idea
for Exorcist III, at the time called Legion, was to follow the original story pretty closely and not
have any sort of exorcism at all. Blatty hired actor Brad Dourif to play Damien Karras, as Jason
Miller was indisposed at the time and the film pretty much was wrapped up before the studio was

Richard, By William Shakespeare
In William Shakespeare's Richard III, Richard is a devil that is walking amongst the masses. His
desire for power is overwhelmingly confident and carefully planned out. Even though he has
obstacles ahead of him, but Richard is determined do everything in his power to rule the throne.
Throughout the progression of the play, Richard uses two forms of power, manipulation and
misogyny, to accomplish his goal. This manipulations starting from the very beginning of the play
and drives him until the end. Furthermore, through a close examination of scene from " The
Exorcist" (1973) a closer parallel can be drawn between Richard and devil, and how they both use
casual possessed power and hidden power. Richard is like a wolf in sheep's clothing and a silent
killer.
"What black magician conjures up this fiend
To stop devoted charitable deeds?..
What, do you tremble? Are you all afraid?
Alas, I blame you not, for you are mortal,
And mortal eyes cannot endure the devil.–
Avaunt, thou dreadful minister of hell.
Thou hadst but power over his mortal body;
His soul thou canst not have. Therefore begone."(Act1,2.35–45)
This powerfully venomous quote from Lady Anne really reveals how she feels about Richard and
how she wants Richard to know that she knows he murdered her husband and father in–law.
"...Dreadful minister of hell." is a powerful insult that shows the pain and anger from Lady Anne.
This phrase not only captures the essence of the of the entire scene, it also parallels a

Crucible Research Paper : West Memphis Three
The West Memphis Three terminology was birthed when three troubled, teenage boys were accused
of brutally torturing and murdering three young, innocent boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, in May
of 1993. Authorities had mounting pressure to find the culprits responsible for the unspeakable
crime. In a very short time, the three teens were accused, arrested and then charged with the brutal
crime. It was not Salem, Massachusetts, but a witch–hunt was going on in West Memphis. It was
almost three hundred years later, but three teenagers had to feel like they were being treated like
witches that had to be put away. Chris Byers, Michael Moore, and Stevie Branch were the three
innocent eight year old boys who were on a bike ride adventure on May 5, 1993 and never returned
home again. Family, friends and the entire community were mortified beyond belief. It was
unspeakable what happened to the boys. Chris, Michael, and Stevie were found in Robin Hood Hills
naked, bound and mutilated. Immediately, rumors began that due to the brutal nature of the crime, it
had to be that of satanic doing. On the flip side of the above innocent youngs boys, there are the
three very troubled teens that live in the same town. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason
Baldwin. They were three well known teenagers in West Memphis Arkansas. The three teens had
definitely made a name for themselves in their home town. There were rumors of

Case Analysis: The Murder Of Corey Davis
On the 2nd of March 1998, a 10 year–old boy, LMW, was charged with the manslaughter of Corey
Davis, a 6 year–old boy. Corey Davis was drowned in the Georges River when the defendant, LMW,
dropped him in with what was thought to be the complete knowledge that the victim was unable to
swim.
The prosecutor, Greg Smith, claimed that "the young boy knew what he was doing and understood
the consequences of his actions when he pushed Corey Davis into the river at Macquarie fields".
Although LMW was only 10 years–old at the time the death of Corey occurred, he was thought to be
capable of "forming criminal intent" which means he was able of committing a crime.
The Prosecution relied mainly on evidence from both the police and unsworn (meaning the
witnesses were not put under oath at the time their knowledge of the events occurred) testimony of
three young children. The first child was a 6 year–old boy who was thought to be with Corey and
the accused at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scenes of his death involved the two boys, LMW and Corey Davis, playing unsupervised near a
dangerous river due to the unaffordable expenses of childcare and proper supervision.
This event was a very unfortunate tragedy, although it was used as an opportunity to create a new
legal precedent which determines whether or not a child can be convicted for crimes though to be
classified as an 'adult crime', for example, manslaughter. Doli incapax, assumes that any child aged
10–14 is incapable of criminal intent unless proven otherwise.
In the end, the defendant was found not guilty of manslaughter due to the jury supporting the
defense's case that the drowning was "an act of bullying that went wrong". This meant that the
defense was not punished for his actions, meaning was justice served? In this situation though, what
would justice have

Ohio on April 22, 2016. Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot in the head,
execution style, at four separate crime scenes, also found at the crime scenes were three small
children; a four–day old newborn baby, a six–month–old and a three–year–old, all three children
were unharmed (Valencia, 2017). Per news reports, seven of the eight victims were in three homes
while the eighth victim was found in a fourth home with the unharmed newborn baby (Valencia,

Deductive reasoning draws from specific conclusions of general principles (Bartol & Bartol, 2010).
Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of deductive
analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The hypothesis here
is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious such as the
sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this alone aligns with
criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do. Observation of the multiple
crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to, this act of violence against this
family showing as being business related and not personal. This is based on the fact that the victims
were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds (Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana
grow operations are connected in some way to the killings. Due to there being more than one crime
scene within close proximity to each other, there may be multiple assailants in this crime. The
hypothesis drawn in this case can only be confirmed after an arrest of a suspect is made, this case

The Exclusivity of the Art Market
"That which costs little is less valued," said novelist Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra, 1819). A
phenomenon very true to the art markets, one might say. Elitism and exclusivity drive the art world.
Value of art works is socially and subjectively constructed, based on one's concocted rationales of
what is significant and what is not. Giving art works the title of commodities, hence, is rather trivial,
particularly due to the nature and quality of these works. One cannot, however, deny that in the case
of contemporary art, capitalism and the art world seem to run hand–in–hand.
Ben Lewis' 2009 documentary "The Great Contemporary Art Bubble" provides a pretty clear picture
of money and power concentrated in an unregulated art market where ... Show more content on

The documentary presented examples of British art–world businessman Charles Saatchi who
triggered and supported the extraordinary prices for the works of Damien Hirst, as well as collector
Jose Mugrabi, whose collection of 800 Warhols indubitably amounts to cornering the market.
(Lewis, 2009)
Art markets are notorious for their lack of transparency and information asymmetries provide
several opportunities for immoral activities to take place. (Velthuis, 2011) On the day of the
declaration of bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the worst financial crisis in history, Damien Hirst
sold his art at a record price of £70 million, in an auction at Sotheby's. It was apparent, however, that
Hirst and his colleagues had manipulated the sale prices by engaging dummy bidders into the
auction sales. (Lewis, 2009) Thus, while the rest of the economy was slowly falling apart, the
contemporary art bubble kept on inflating, bigger than ever before. It was the peak of the
contemporary art bubble, and also the start of its downfall. A month after this triumph, the
contemporary art market crashed, dropping by 40% in November 2008 and 75% by February 2009.
(Art Market Trends, 2011)
Additionally, budget and subsidies cuts for cultural institutes were seen all over Europe and UK,
following the recession of 2008. As a result, many galleries and institutions had to close shop. In
entirety, the art market experienced a huge loss of confidence due to the financial

Modern Art Research Paper
"Painting today is pure intuition and luck and taking advantage of what happens when you splash
the stuff down. "– Francis Bacon. However when I learnt more about history of art and the way each
movement and happenings in the world inspired artist to make new works, I was able to see much
more than just a canvas with random paints and sketches. The interesting part about this concept is
that each piece of art could be interpreted in many different ways. In contemporary art there isn't
right and wrong, each of us view and find different meanings and connections with artworks. The
beginning of 20th century was a time of drastic change. New developments were made in the arenas
of the classical sciences, social science, psychology and philosophy – each challenging traditional
thought. Industrialization and the introduction of many new, challenging concepts in the fields of
politics as well as the development of new technologies gave artist more freedom to innovate and
break the rules of traditional art. By using new materials, techniques and the new approach artists
were pushing boundaries of what has previously been accepted art practice in order to invent
radically new styles. Modernism was a broad period surrounding many movements. It covered from
1860 to 1970. This movement challenged the traditional thinking with the aim to change the way
artists represented the world. Modernism refers to this

Art Is Any Good?
Art unquestionably possesses the power to shock. During the entire course of history viewers have
been shocked, distressed, affronted, and categorically outraged by artworks that were religiously,
socially or politically thought–provoking. In general, this thought–provoking characteristic is
precisely what artists are attempting to achieve in their desire to shock, and this, many would argue,
is exactly the purpose of art itself, especially in our contemporary world. Indeed, when engaging

Summary Of The Physical Possibility Of Death In The Mind...
Damien Hirst's "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living" is a sculpture
of a shark entombed in a rectangular steel vitrine. The vitrine is designed so that it looks like it is
divided into three cubes. The steel that splits up the vitrine into these cubes is painted white. Inside
the vitrine, the shark is entirely frozen in what looks like clear, blue water. It is positioned so that it
is in the center of the tank. From a side view, the shark's head pops out of the first cube, its body is
in the middle cube, and its tale pops out of the third cube. The shark has its mouth wide open,
showing off its sharp teeth. It looks like it was about to attack someone or something just before it

impossible for justice to be served when the trail was a mess. There was a 12 hour police

Postmodern Art And Its Impact On Modern Society
Postmodern art is typically anti–establishment and rebellious, the beginning of postmodern art can
be found in the late 1950's–1960's although the term was first used around 1970. The movement
differed from previous movements as it deliberately went against the rules, artists used many
different disciplines within one piece of work. A core value of postmodern art is that it is for
everyone and tries to be a connection between art and everyday life.
Modernism triggered post–modernism, modernism painted a perfect life and used religion and truths
as a way of life (e.g. Sigmund Freud and his theories)
Modernist's artists concentrated on technique and the form of their artwork rather than complicating
the process they preferred simpler more clarified techniques.
After the second world war and the huge loss of communities of men and battalions the focus

Human beings may attempt to understand his death and what it was like, however could never really

comprehend, relate to, and be able to view death of living things around them, they are unable to
completely know what it is physically like, which is portrayed in Damien Hirst's work "The Physical
Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living." The title of his work gives more meaning to
the artwork itself, which applies to titles of other pieces of art, poems, books, or movies, as well.
Many people say "not to judge a book by its cover", which is actually partly true. Giving the work a
quick glance or just a look at the title is clearly not a fair way to judge, however the title is important
because it gives way to what the creator was attempting to portray. The shark in the museum and its
title both allow people to decipher what the shark itself and the title mean in various ways; however,
if it was just the shark, the artist's purpose would definitely not be depicted as well. At first glance,
one may believe that the shark is in the museum because of something special about him, such as his
age or any other specialities. Once the title is read, full meaning is given to the work and individuals
see that the artist actually created it to portray the reason that death is incomprehensible to living
individuals. The role of titles is not only important to

Daughters Of The Leper Research Paper
Daughters of the Lepers
Many historians, writers, and health practitioners, still remain curious to know and seek stories of
the Lepers of Kalaupapa. According to the Hawaiian Journal of History, in 1865, the Hawaiian
Kingdom established the isolation settlement for any individuals infected with leprosy. Numerous
stories have been told of the Leper parents on Kalaupapa however; my focus towards this research is
the many children who was taken and separated from their Leper parents. Children who was not
infected by the disease (who was considered clean) was either taken from their parents at
segregation, or was born on Kalaupapa and later removed from their parents. When the Kingdom of
Hawaii passed the Segregation Act in1865, and all who were medically pronounced to be lepers
were to be exiled immediately to Molokaʻi (HJoH). No provisions were made for the children who
were not infected. Not even for the children being born on Molokaʻi. Later this would have caused a
much bigger problem, by allowing the clean to be mixed with the sick. The Hawaiʻi Kingdoms

The West Memphis Three Case Analysis
The Case of the West Memphis Three involves the three teenage boys accused and convicted of
murdering Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Christopher Byers in West Memphis, Arkansas on
May 5th, 1993. The investigation, trial, and appeals that followed would put the Arkansas criminal
justice system under scrutiny for their actions. The West Memphis Police Department arrested and
charged Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelly, Jr. with the three boy's murders. The
entire case was under the constant watch of the media and brought a great deal of attention to the
actions and conduct of the West Memphis Police Department, as well as the Arkansas criminal
justice system. Many outsiders got involved with the West Memphis Three case. Among these
outsiders were famous musicians Eddy Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam and Natalie Maines of the
Dixie Chicks, famous actors including Johnny Depp, and superstar director Peter Jackson. These
celebrities helped to raise awareness of the case as well as to help raise money for the West
Memphis three to obtain appropriate post–conviction representation and unbiased forensic testing
and analysis in the hopes of exonerating them of their convictions. While the new forensic evidence
(and the new testing and expert analysis of the original evidence) ultimately helped the West
Memphis Three become free men again, the question still remains as to who really murdered those
three boys on May 5th, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas. Because the

The Impact Of Pop Industry On The Music Industry
When discussing the pop–industry today a general belief seems to form, that young musicians who
grew up with either rich or famous parents compose the majority of the industry. On the other hand,
the alternative genres of music are typically made up of people who grew up in the middle–class or
lower class. Unfortunately their music never finds a market or receives play on the radio. That said,
technical avenues still exist for the alternative artist to make music. Twitter, Spotify and Apple
Music offer opportunities for a musician to promote their music. Also, live gigs and collaborations

The Hutcheson Case Study
Based on the way the boys were found, hog–tied and cut, as well as rumors that started floating

Damien Hirst 's The On The Mind Of Someone Living
The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living is a piece that was created by
the artist Damien Hirst in the year 1992. In summary, it is a tiger shark that is preserved in a
formaldehyde solution in a case of glass and steel. The case is separated into three parts, which most
likely is because Hirst did not want the viewer to see and observe the piece as one whole dead shark.
It is thought that this steel casing breaks the continuity of the shark and therefore, becomes less
connectable as something familiar to the viewer. This shark is considered one of the most shocking
pieces of American art. This is because this shark, for many people, seems to be a direct
representation of death and is quite disturbing, and somewhat scary to look at, whether it be in
person or in real life. Therefore, the belief stands that this piece is more a form of science than a
form of art. The artist of the piece is Damien Hirst. Hirst is an English artist who was born in Bristol
and moved to London when he was 19 years old. Hirst was raised in a Catholic household, and even
had an early religious educational childhood. Later in his life, he pulls from this religious education
as inspiration for his works. He got his Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College in

How Art Can Be Considered Many Things
Art can be considered many things. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie, but
it could also be considered a carefully thought out plan.
Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the "best" in Art is that it refuses
to be forgotten. Da Vinci 's "Mona Lisa", Van Gogh's "Starry Night", or even Campbell's Soup Cans
by Warhol have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the
intention of living through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be
remembered, not forgotten. But memorials, unlike art, tend to commemorate horrific events,
tragedies, and losses almost exclusively. Consider the USS Arizona Memorial, the Lincoln

what to write about. But, he writes, that novelist Don DeLillo considered the acts of violence as

''exorcism'', the director of the film William Friedkin had to feature this quote out, which is actually
a quote from Bible. But not only this one but also the other quotes –especially the obscene ones–
have right to be the most memorable quotes from the best horror movie in 70s, ''The Exorcist''. But
why do people think it's the best horror movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regan has no father figure around her, mother behaves her like a friend. A spoiled girl, without no
authority at home, moreover experiencing an adolescence period, where she is available to change
any time, must be the best candidate for a demon or evil, whatever. There is a belief that demons
love lonely and desperate people and they get in their lifes while they are unhappy or not enough
happy. Also there is another believe that this evil things happens mostly to the people without no
faith or religion.
Regan MacNeil: Mother? What's wrong with me?
Chris MacNeil: It's just like the doctor said. It's nerves, and that's all. You just take your pills and
you'll be fine, really. Okay? Regan's mother was obviously an agnostic or maybe an atheist. When
she noticed that Regan has some problems, she immediately took her daughter to a physchologist.
These physchologists offered to get Regan checked by psychiatrists also because they thought her
problems are more serious. And finally when pshyciatrists told Chris that they can't help her, they
adviced to see a priest, which was a nonsense advice for an agnostic mother who doesn't believe in
that kind of religious things. Could a priest save her daughter's life, could he change something?
Desperate mother had to try this final solution whether she believes in God or not. And it worked
actually. The demon inside Regan was pulled out by the help of exorcism, by the help of priests, by

West Memphis 3 Argumentative Paper
West Memphis 3: Wrongfully Accused?
On May 5th, 1993 three eight year old boys were reported missing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The
boys were found the next day, hog tied in a wooded area called "Robin Hood Hills". After the case
had been "thoroughly" investigated, the West Memphis Police announced on the news that they had
found the murderers, pointing fingers at Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, three
teenagers who were different from the norm in West Memphis, making it easy for them to be
accused. I believe the boys were wrongfully accused of this crime because there is a lack of
evidence in the case pointing to the boys, and the crime just seems to convenient for these three to
actually pull off.
During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strange thing about the thirty–ish minute recorded "confession", Jessie made many mistakes
about the facts in the case, stating that they boys were tied together with rope instead of shoe laces.
He also messed up some facts, saying it happened during the day , but was quickly corrected by the
police.(Paradise Lost) After being questioned for 12 hours and finally giving a confession, the
police, instead of letting Jessie go home as promised, arrested Miskelley which is when he revoked
his whole statement but it was no longer on record. Echols and Baldwin were arrested. Misskelley's
trial was sepereate from Echols and Bladwins, but all three were found guilty of capital murder
charges.
Throughout this case, many pieces of evidence came up "missing" and many other people who
should have been suspects went without being questioned at all. For example, a problem arose at a
local Bojangles, the same night of the murders. The manager working at the time called the police,
reporting that a black man had stumbled into the restaurant. He was bleeding and mumbling the
manger said, and instead of a report being filed, the working officer found it would be much more
convenient for her if she just

Steven Hirst Research Paper

  • 1. Steven Hirst Research Paper Damien Steven Hirst is an English conceptual and installation artist. One of the richest artist in the United Kingdom, an estimated £215 million. Born on June 7, 1965, Bristol, England, a member of and most prominent of a group named Young British Artists. A group of visual artists that began to exhibit together in London. They dominated the art scene in the United Kingdom during the 1990s. He studied at Goldsmiths, University in London from '86 to '89. During Hirst's second year Goldsmiths College, he organized an independent student exhibition called Freeze. The lines between life and death were often the main theme in most Hirst's work. Infamous for having artworks that include dead animals, cows, sheeps, and a shark. For this reason, Hirst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The artwork is currently sitting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The tiger shark was caught at Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia, which costed Hirst £6,000. The entire artwork ended up with a total of £50,000. The shark quickly embedded itself in the national psyche as an icon of everything that was good – or bad – about contemporary art, depending on your viewpoint (Sarah Kent). For most people, this shark was the icon of everything that is bad about contemporary art, if you can call it that. Does this man go out of his way to hunt a wonderful creature as the tiger shark? Slaughtering animals for no other reason, but so use them in art is despicable. Strong emotions are going through many individual's minds on Hirst's work, either good or bad. For this reason, Hirst was dubbed the "bad boy" of British art and scarcely a week went by without an article appearing in the press outlining his outrageous behavior (Kent). This exhibition is touching on the subject matter of death, with death itself in the "art". An individual who might admire the work would look that this and say that having a creature that can possibly end your life within seconds, just frozen in time is something to reflect on. Which can be a valid argument, but numerous of individuals wouldn't come to an agreement with the need of the slaughtering of a wonderful being, such as the tiger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Pop Art In The 1960s Years following World War II, the United States enjoyed an unprecedented period of economic and political growth. The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality for African Americans, and the women's liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment stepped into the new level with the monumental "super stars" such as Elis Presley led the emergence of Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a "cultural revolution" was underway, led by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to "popular" of the world, the new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the world around them, representing–and, at times, making art directly from–everyday items, consumer goods, and mass media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it brought the popular world–from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas– into the realm of high art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the mid– to late–1950s. They did this in a straightforward manner, using bold swaths of primary colors, often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Exorcist Is One Wacky Series The Exorcist franchise is one wacky series. You had the amazing original film, which was one of the most intense horror films to come out at the time. Then, X years later we got the crazy, shitty Exorcist II: The Heretic, that had James Earl Jones flying on the back of a bug through the desert or something equally stupid. It wasn 't until X years later that we finally got a proper sequel, The Exorcist III, but that too was plagued with issues, with both Director/Author William Peter Blatty and the studio not agreeing on what they wanted as a final product. I haven 't even mentioned the even crazier Exorcist: The Beginning, directed by Renny Harlin, which was later re–released as the slightly superior version Dominion: Prequel to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the book tells you that Detective Kinderman was a big time friend with Karras, but honestly, I never felt that when reading the original The Exorcist novel. The story behind Legion focuses on a murder investigation involving the deceased Gemini Killer and Kinderman trying to figure who exactly is behind these most recent killings, which bear the true MO of the Gemini Killer. He eventually ends up interviewing a psych patient who says he is the Gemini Killer, but when Kinderman visits him, he is completely thrown for a loop when he sees the definitely should be dead Father Damien Karras, who is being possessed by the Killer. The rest of the novel, unfortunately, features pages and pages of Blatty 's theories on evaluation and random nonsense that has nothing to do with the main story. Honestly, the book ended up being awful because of that. When 1990 was approaching, a sequel to The Exorcist was being demanded. Blatty came on as writer/director and went to work adapting his once screenplay, now book, Legion. The original idea for Exorcist III, at the time called Legion, was to follow the original story pretty closely and not have any sort of exorcism at all. Blatty hired actor Brad Dourif to play Damien Karras, as Jason Miller was indisposed at the time and the film pretty much was wrapped up before the studio was like "Hey, why is there no damn ... • 7. Richard, By William Shakespeare In William Shakespeare's Richard III, Richard is a devil that is walking amongst the masses. His desire for power is overwhelmingly confident and carefully planned out. Even though he has obstacles ahead of him, but Richard is determined do everything in his power to rule the throne. Throughout the progression of the play, Richard uses two forms of power, manipulation and misogyny, to accomplish his goal. This manipulations starting from the very beginning of the play and drives him until the end. Furthermore, through a close examination of scene from " The Exorcist" (1973) a closer parallel can be drawn between Richard and devil, and how they both use casual possessed power and hidden power. Richard is like a wolf in sheep's clothing and a silent killer. "What black magician conjures up this fiend To stop devoted charitable deeds?.. What, do you tremble? Are you all afraid? Alas, I blame you not, for you are mortal, And mortal eyes cannot endure the devil.– Avaunt, thou dreadful minister of hell. Thou hadst but power over his mortal body; His soul thou canst not have. Therefore begone."(Act1,2.35–45) This powerfully venomous quote from Lady Anne really reveals how she feels about Richard and how she wants Richard to know that she knows he murdered her husband and father in–law. "...Dreadful minister of hell." is a powerful insult that shows the pain and anger from Lady Anne. This phrase not only captures the essence of the of the entire scene, it also parallels a ... The Crucible Research Paper : West Memphis Three Crucible Research Paper : West Memphis Three The West Memphis Three terminology was birthed when three troubled, teenage boys were accused of brutally torturing and murdering three young, innocent boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, in May of 1993. Authorities had mounting pressure to find the culprits responsible for the unspeakable crime. In a very short time, the three teens were accused, arrested and then charged with the brutal crime. It was not Salem, Massachusetts, but a witch–hunt was going on in West Memphis. It was almost three hundred years later, but three teenagers had to feel like they were being treated like witches that had to be put away. Chris Byers, Michael Moore, and Stevie Branch were the three innocent eight year old boys who were on a bike ride adventure on May 5, 1993 and never returned home again. Family, friends and the entire community were mortified beyond belief. It was unspeakable what happened to the boys. Chris, Michael, and Stevie were found in Robin Hood Hills naked, bound and mutilated. Immediately, rumors began that due to the brutal nature of the crime, it had to be that of satanic doing. On the flip side of the above innocent youngs boys, there are the three very troubled teens that live in the same town. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin. • 13. Case Analysis: The Murder Of Corey Davis On the 2nd of March 1998, a 10 year–old boy, LMW, was charged with the manslaughter of Corey Davis, a 6 year–old boy. Corey Davis was drowned in the Georges River when the defendant, LMW, dropped him in with what was thought to be the complete knowledge that the victim was unable to swim. The prosecutor, Greg Smith, claimed that "the young boy knew what he was doing and understood the consequences of his actions when he pushed Corey Davis into the river at Macquarie fields". Although LMW was only 10 years–old at the time the death of Corey occurred, he was thought to be capable of "forming criminal intent" which means he was able of committing a crime. The Prosecution relied mainly on evidence from both the police and unsworn (meaning the witnesses were not put under oath at the time their knowledge of the events occurred) testimony of three young children. Doli incapax, assumes that any child aged 10–14 is incapable of criminal intent unless proven otherwise. In the end, the defendant was found not guilty of manslaughter due to the jury supporting the defense's case that the drowning was "an act of bullying that went wrong". Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot in the head, execution style, at four separate crime scenes, also found at the crime scenes were three small children; a four–day old newborn baby, a six–month–old and a three–year–old, all three children were unharmed (Valencia, 2017). Per news reports, seven of the eight victims were in three homes while the eighth victim was found in a fourth home with the unharmed newborn baby (Valencia, 2017). • 17. The Exclusivity of the Art Market "That which costs little is less valued," said novelist Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra, 1819). A phenomenon very true to the art markets, one might say. Elitism and exclusivity drive the art world. Value of art works is socially and subjectively constructed, based on one's concocted rationales of what is significant and what is not. Giving art works the title of commodities, hence, is rather trivial, particularly due to the nature and quality of these works. One cannot, however, deny that in the case of contemporary art, capitalism and the art world seem to run hand–in–hand. Ben Lewis' 2009 documentary "The Great Contemporary Art Bubble" provides a pretty clear picture of money and power concentrated in an unregulated art market where ... The documentary presented examples of British art–world businessman Charles Saatchi who triggered and supported the extraordinary prices for the works of Damien Hirst, as well as collector Jose Mugrabi, whose collection of 800 Warhols indubitably amounts to cornering the market. (Lewis, 2009) Art markets are notorious for their lack of transparency and information asymmetries provide several opportunities for immoral activities to take place. (Velthuis, 2011) On the day of the declaration of bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the worst financial crisis in history, Damien Hirst sold his art at a record price of £70 million, in an auction at Sotheby's. It was apparent, however, that Hirst and his colleagues had manipulated the sale prices by engaging dummy bidders into the auction sales. (Lewis, 2009) Thus, while the rest of the economy was slowly falling apart, the contemporary art bubble kept on inflating, bigger than ever before. It was the peak of the contemporary art bubble, and also the start of its downfall. A month after this triumph, the contemporary art market crashed, dropping by 40% in November 2008 and 75% by February 2009. (Art Market Trends, 2011) Additionally, budget and subsidies cuts for cultural institutes were seen all over Europe and UK, following the recession of 2008. However when I learnt more about history of art and the way each movement and happenings in the world inspired artist to make new works, I was able to see much more than just a canvas with random paints and sketches. The interesting part about this concept is that each piece of art could be interpreted in many different ways. In contemporary art there isn't right and wrong, each of us view and find different meanings and connections with artworks. The beginning of 20th century was a time of drastic change. New developments were made in the arenas of the classical sciences, social science, psychology and philosophy – each challenging traditional thought. Industrialization and the introduction of many new, challenging concepts in the fields of politics as well as the development of new technologies gave artist more freedom to innovate and break the rules of traditional art. By using new materials, techniques and the new approach artists were pushing boundaries of what has previously been accepted art practice in order to invent radically new styles. Modernism was a broad period surrounding many movements. It covered from 1860 to 1970. This movement challenged the traditional thinking with the aim to change the way artists represented the world. Postmodern Art And Its Impact On Modern Society Postmodern art is typically anti–establishment and rebellious, the beginning of postmodern art can be found in the late 1950's–1960's although the term was first used around 1970. The movement differed from previous movements as it deliberately went against the rules, artists used many different disciplines within one piece of work. A core value of postmodern art is that it is for everyone and tries to be a connection between art and everyday life. Modernism triggered post–modernism, modernism painted a perfect life and used religion and truths as a way of life (e.g. Sigmund Freud and his theories) Modernist's artists concentrated on technique and the form of their artwork rather than complicating the process they preferred simpler more clarified techniques. In late May, a group of policeman on surveillance heard a splash at the river about 3am. They spotted a car fleeing the scene, so they pursued to pull it over. The driver was no other than 22 year old Wayne Williams. At the time, the police had no idea what the splash was, so they let Williams go. Two days later the body of Nathaniel Cater was found downstream. The police brought Williams in for questioning. Williams alibi was weak, and he failed several lie polygraph tests. Williams was finally arrested on June 20, 1981, and found guilty of the murders of Nathaniel Cater and Jimmy Ray Payne on February 27, 1982. The prosecution undertook to educate the jury about fiber evidence, using over 40 charts and over 350 photographs. In discussing the significance of an association based on textile fibers, it emphasized that the more uncommon the fibers, the stronger the association. • 49. The Hutcheson Case Study Based on the way the boys were found, hog–tied and cut, as well as rumors that started floating around, police started to suspect that the crime might have been part of a cult ritual. Damien Echols had been known to listen to satanic music and possibly was part of a satanic cult although he denied any affiliation with a cult or with the crime. Jason Baldwin was a friend of Echols however he was different in that he excelled in school and out of the three teenagers probably had the best shot of going to college and making a life for himself. Jesse Misskelly Jr. didn't really know Echols or Baldwin but Vicki Hutcheson, a woman who helped police with the search thought he might have some information on the case. Hutcheson played a crucial roll in the investigation as she gave testimony of her knowledge that the teens had committed the murder. There was blood on the knife that was consistent with both Christopher's and John's blood, however, the police never looked any further into it (Choate, 2015). The crime scene itself was absolutely a mess, as the police did not wait for a medical examiner to check the bodies before dragging them out of the creek, which left them susceptible to the sun and insects. A few years after the teens had been convicted, it was noticed in the crime scene photos that one of the boys, Steve Branch, appeared to have bite marks on his forehead. • 51. Lord Hirst Research Paper Damien Hirst was born in Bristol, England. British artist Damien Hirst has shocked and surprised the art world with his unusual works, including glass displays of dead animals and medicine cabinet sculptures. Some people say Damien Hirst has learned a lot from Jeff Koons. Like Koons's basketball in the aquarium, Hirst likes to suspend things in tanks, encase things, make them last forever. Hirst is a great craftsman and a natural showman as Koons does. But Koons's works almost always dazzles and flares for the first impression. The three teenagers, Jessie Misskelley, Damien Echols, and Jason Baldwin were convicted and sentenced to life for the murder of these three little boys. After 18 years of imprisonment, the state realized that they mess up and gave the chance for Misskelley, Echols, and Baldwin to declare themselves guilty. Essay on The Crucible and the West Memphis Three Revenge, the abuse of authority and the desire for power are all present in both Arthur Miller's play The Crucible and the case regarding the West Memphis Three. To understand the connection you need to know something about the case. Three young boys were murdered on May 5, 1993 (Leveritt 5). They were stripped of their clothing, their hands were bound and they were forced underwater in the nearby creek where they stayed until they were found the next day. Little evidence was collected the day of their discovery, what was recovered was mislabeled and handled incorrectly. The boys were laying in the open elements for 3 hours before they saw any kind of medical examiner (Leveritt 23). Later, three teenagers (Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin ... Taking place in 1692, a time when religion was everything and the town preacher was authority, people were forced into the mundane, agricultural centered lives that had been handed to them by the previous generation (Miller 3). • 61. Damien Hirst 's The On The Mind Of Someone Living The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living is a piece that was created by the artist Damien Hirst in the year 1992. In summary, it is a tiger shark that is preserved in a formaldehyde solution in a case of glass and steel. The case is separated into three parts, which most likely is because Hirst did not want the viewer to see and observe the piece as one whole dead shark. It is thought that this steel casing breaks the continuity of the shark and therefore, becomes less connectable as something familiar to the viewer. This shark is considered one of the most shocking pieces of American art. This is because this shark, for many people, seems to be a direct representation of death and is quite disturbing, and somewhat scary to look at, whether it be in person or in real life. Therefore, the belief stands that this piece is more a form of science than a form of art. The artist of the piece is Damien Hirst. Hirst is an English artist who was born in Bristol and moved to London when he was 19 years old. Hirst was raised in a Catholic household, and even had an early religious educational childhood. Later in his life, he pulls from this religious education as inspiration for his works. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie, but it could also be considered a carefully thought out plan. Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the "best" in Art is that it refuses to be forgotten. Da Vinci 's "Mona Lisa", Van Gogh's "Starry Night", or even Campbell's Soup Cans by Warhol have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the intention of living through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be remembered, not forgotten. Appleyard also includes a quote from artist Damien Hirst, who had "gotten into trouble for saying something similar". Hirst had said, "[t]he thing about 9/11 is that it's kind of an artwork in its own right. It was wicked, but it was devised in this way for this kind of impact. It was devised visually...
