1. ProcessEssay(Final)
Sketchingisanaction where youare doinga rough or unfinisheddrawing, oftenmade inthe
helpof makinga more finishedpicture.Inmycase,as a studentthrivingtowardsQuantitySurveying
the word sketchcan be similarly definedasarough drawingof what a buildingorstructure should
be.Sketchingwill mostprobablybe one of the mostfrequentanduseful actionImayexperience in
the future.Thisisbecause inmy future workindustry, itisusedasa communicatingtool between
one partiesto the other. My lectureronce saidif youcannot explainit, sketchitout.Thiscan be
portrayedwhere if one wouldwanttogive a suggestiontothe others, theywouldjustsketchwhat
theywantedtosay to avoidany misunderstandings.Anyway, the processessaythatIam aboutto
write ishowI experiencedproducinganattractive sketchof the kitchenutensilthatIhave chosen.
Out of all variouskitchenutensils, the utensil thatIhave chosentosketchand elaborate
aboutis a kitchenwhisk.Observingmymetal whisk,the thinhandle hadasemi-thickwire coiled
aroundit. The bottompart had a small metal hookandthe thinwiredheadof the whiskwasshaped
like awide teardrop.Tastingmywhiskwaslike tastingmetal withahintof lemontoit mostprobably
fromthe dishwashingsoap. The term, tastingwhatyoucan smell wasdone whenItooka whiff of
my whiskanditreallyhada metallic-lemonsmelltoit.The handle feltbumpyfromthe coiledwire
and the stripsof thinwire was like touchinguncookedangel hairpasta.Droppingthe whiskonthe
kitchencountermade me heara sharp metallicclinksound. The reasonIchose a whiskisbecause of
itsunique shape anditsuse in boththe bakingand cookingarea.
As I didmysketch,I had alreadypreparedmysimple setof pencils.AfterIhaddrawn the shape of
my whisk,Istartedto getdeeperintoitbyusingthe regular2B pencil tostart on myshading. The
onlypart that I shadedwere the handle, where Iusedthe 2B pencil togive a dark shadedarea.I
thencontinuedtoswitchtoa B pencil fora lightershade.AsIincorporate the lightshade onto the
handle, itmixedalittle withthe darkershade givingthe handle agoodrange of tone goingfrom
dark to light.Throughoutmysketch,Ididnot use any type of toolsto balance itout otherthan
followingmyinstinctsonhowthe sketchwouldeventuallybalance outinthe end.Before doingall
this,I hadclearedmy workplace asitkeepsmymindinpeace, enablingme tostartmy sketch.
The sketchthat I had done wasnot a drawingthat wouldbe done withoutanypractice. Before
achievingmyfinal sketchIstartedoff witha few drafts, all of whichhaddifferentanglesand
positions.AsaconclusionIchose to sketchmywhiskina way that itwas vertical yeta little slanted
to the left.Takingouta piece of A4 paper anda 2B pencil Istarted mysketchwitha thincylinder
handle.Iaddeddetailsof the coiledwire thencontinuedontothe headdrawingthe outermostwire
and continuedgoinginwardsasitgetssmallerandshorter.Ithenfinishedthe componentswiththe
hookat the bottomandthus wentto the shadingprocess.LookingatmysketchI realisedIhad
made a couple of mistakesbutall were correctedbyusinga mechanical pencil ensuringthe linesI
drewwere notas close to eachother.
As a personwhorarelydoessketchingitwouldobviouslymake sensethatittooktime forme to
complete mysketch.Doingartrelatedactivitiesisnota part of me and thiswascompletely
portrayedduringthe processof my sketchwhere Ihad a lotmistakes. The mistakesIdidwere the
2. onesthat tooka longtime to be correctedhence, makingthe processlonger.RelievedwaswhatI
feltasI finallycompletedthe sketchIwasdoing.Although comingfromthe lessartisticpersonthatI
am, I wasquite happywithmyself fordevelopingasketchof thiskind.Incorporatingthe shadingwas
somethingIwasproudof developing.Evenaftercountlessfrustratingmistakes,Iwouldwanttodo
thisagainbecause althoughsketchingisachallenge forme,Irealisedthatthe processof itis
interestingandImighttake thisupas a new part time activity.
