Measures of Dispersion and Variability: Range, QD, AD and SD
Eng essay assignment_1
1. Sketching is like a free writing job where you can simply put about any idea
that comes into your mind. It’s a good way to get your ideas on paper and a concrete
sample picture of what you want to relate on through your sketches. Sketches can
be some kind of brainstorming process where you can see roughly what the design
that you’re looking for are and to determine which one work well and which one does
not. According to Ryan Hembree, the author of The Complete Graphic Designer,
“Drawing is essential to solving design problems since ideas must be translated from
written form into images to communicate with the audience” (Hembree, 2008, pg. 50).
Sketching is something really important for me during my respective course because
the plan that you have in your brain does not always work for people unless you
project it out through your sketches to make proposal of it and to see clearly what will
succeed and will not. Furthermore, I did a sketch of my object where I express it
visible and what’s the whole process about, from identifying that item to how I
sketched it out.
On top of that, the chosen material for my kitchen utensil is kitchen tong.
Kitchen tong is basically two arms looking tool hinged or fastened together for
holding or lifting something. Normally kitchen tongs does not smell unless it’s
contaminated or sometimes plastic tongs will smell like plastic and wooden tongs will
smell like trees. Kitchen tongs sometimes produce a “clip” sound when you use it to
hold things it’s because the two arms top end touch each other causing frictions to it.
Tongs are tasteless and uneatable. Whereas, by touching a kitchen tong, it’s a hard
and long object. Tongs are use in many ways for our daily life such as for serving the
foods onto the plates, tongs are fabulous for cooking by using it to turn sausages
and meats on the barbecue, tongs are also used to pick up hot items in boiling water
and also to lift items like the hop, some of us uses tongs to reach out for boxes and
2. packets from the back of the cupboard that are hard to get, giving some extensions
for people that has shorter arms. The reason I have chosen the kitchen tong is that it
helps me in many ways when I’m cooking, it helps me from plating out my
masterpiece prettily to lending me add-on longer hand to reach out to my ingredient
that I needed.
What’s more, how did I get my sketching ready? Firstly, the tools that are
needed to get my masterpiece going are A4 paper, pencils for shading and drawing
purpose simply, the H means hard and B means black. H pencils, because they are
hard, leave less graphite on the paper, so are lighter. B pencils are softer, so leave
more graphite on the paper, and so are darker. Eraser is the second most important
thing that is needed. Tissue papers are optional if you don’t want to get your fingers
dirty. I kick start by cleaning the whole table, giving me a space with a peace of mind
so that that aura comes in for me to produce a good artwork.
Additionally, I took a 2B pencil to rapidly sketch out the shape of a kitchen
tong looks like in my brain. Besides the imaginary part, I added details on how a real
kitchen tong appears like by referring to pictures from the internet. When am done
with the bones of it, I took the HB pencil for a lighter shades inside it, ended with 3B
pencil to darken the sides to give some shadow effect to it. I also did use some
tissue paper to pat on for blending in of a darker to lighter result. Last but not less, an
eraser to make everything looks neat and clean, to rub on the extra lines and
shading that are unnecessary. Nothing is perfect, mistakes comes so I did what I had
to do to correct it by adding more shades or erase it off and try an error to make it
work.
3. The duration for me to get all the sketching done is around two hours, it
wasn’t as easy as it seems. To take this long is because I don’t usually sketch thing
often I only sketch when I needed to for assignments. When it was fully completed I
literally throw my pencils away and shouted, it feels great to see your hard work paid
off and your happy with it. I would definitely do it again to see how Rome wasn’t built
in a day.
