2. Sketching which also known as rough drawing is the best way to get ideas on
paper. It is also a part of brainstorming process and allow us on determinating which
ideas work well and which do not. Now I am going to show you the process on
sketching the tallest tower, Eiffel Tower in Paris in seven simple steps.
In order to produce an attractive sketch, it is necessary to have effective drawing tools.
The tools you needed are quality drawing paper, eraser, fine marker, colour pencils,
paints, markers and most importantly, pencils.
Have you ever been using pencils but never truly understand their uses? Basically,
pencils are just one of the many mediums in which artists communicate. They are easy
to control and use. It usually set the foundation for your artwork. It does not always
have to be a graphic stick, it could also be charcoal. But regardless, they all have what
are called “Grades”. Pencils are categorized into the B or H class, depending on
whether they are soft or dark and rough and light. They are usually preceded by a
number on a letter like 5H, 7B, or HB. B means soft and it have thicker graphite or
charcoal sticks that allow more graphite to be released onto the drawing surface. H
means hard. The graphite tip is usually a lot rougher and does not allow too much onto
the paper compare with B. Plus, it allows control while shading in lighter tones.
Normally, a lot of people use 2B for outlining. 3B to 5B is the middle range that gives
you average dark tones. For darker tones you may go for the 6B and above range.
In addition, several types of colored pencils are manufactured for both artistic and
practical uses. For examples, artist-grade pencils, mechanical colored pencils,
student-grade materials and scholastic-level colored pencils, and also watercolor
pencils. However, due to significantly lower prices, student-grade colored pencils are
ideal for elementary and middle school students. It is most commonly in used for

3. sketching. Colored pencils also can be used in combination with several other drawing
mediums. When used by themselves, there are two main rendering techniques colored
pencil artists use which are layering and burnishing.
Now let’s us start sketching! First of all, you may look from the front view profile
perspective and draw a curved triangle and another smaller one inside of that as the
basic shapes of the Eiffel Tower. Next, draw a line below the tip of the tower. Now,
almost half way from that, draw another line. Then, draw a curved line to form the arch
at the base of the Eiffel Tower. After that, sketch in details for each level of it.
Then, draw a series of “X”s in between the columns. The sizes of the X’s depending
on where you will be putting them in the drawing. I suggest you to start with the larger
ones at the base of the tower and decrease their size as you progress to the top. Next,
create an outline on the entire drawing by using a fine pointed marker and don’t forget
to erase the guidelines. Last but not least, colour the Eiffel Tower with the colours
which you desire. Although this step is optional but this could completes the look of it.
By colouring it and you are done! Simple yet nice isn’t it? It doesn’t matter if you are
bad at drawing, as long as you have the passion for it. “No one was born perfect.” To
be honest, I used to be lack of confidence with my sketching skills and all I do was
keep on practicing in order to master my drawing skills and that is the moment when I
realized the definition of “practice makes perfect”. In a nutshell, everyone can be artist,
it is all about the matter of not giving up easily.
