Warp would be the best media company to distribute our media product because it is a small, independent UK film company. Distributing with Warp would allow our film to have the full backing of a wholly dedicated company, unlike larger conglomerates that divide focus between subsidiaries. Also, Warp's independent status would permit more controversial content than larger companies. However, Warp's smaller size means a limited budget, restricting special effects, and a smaller worldwide release compared to bigger companies.
1. What kind of media institutions might
distribute your media product and why?
2. Media companies
Media companies today we mostly focus on the big 6 because they are at the top of the
hierarchy. They consist of Walt Disney, Comcast, News corporation, Time Warner, Viacom and
CBS. They are all conglomerates which means they are a mix of subsidiary companies. An
example would be Time Warner is a conglomerate and Warner Bros are a subsidiary of them. This
means that they get more money because the conglomerates pumps money into the smaller
subsidiary's which then they make films, music labels etc in order to keep there companies
running.
3. Benderspink
Benderspink are a production company what are most famous for making thriller films. Producer
Chris Bender and producer/manager J.C. Spink have turned their management firm into one of
the more successful hybrids in town, thanks to their solid judgment about what audiences enjoy.
By no means exclusive to the horror genre (summer hit We’re The Millers is one of theirs, as was
Monster-In-Law, which some might consider a different kind of horror movie altogether), the
company has done well by finding solid remake fare (The Ring), low budget franchise possibilities
(there were two straight-to-video Butterfly Effect sequels), and high concept fare (Demeter
follows the tale of the 19th century ship that brought Dracula to England).
4. Warp
We decided that the best company to distribute our media product would be warp. This is
because it is a UK independent film company. We think that it would be useful if Warp would
produce and distribute our film because they are a small independent company. We would have
the backing from the whole of their company because they wont have to focus on subsidiaries
because they aren’t a conglomerate. Furthermore we could include more controversial content
because not many people would know about Warp. However, the problem is that because they
are a small independent company they wont have a big budget, so our effects might not be as
good as bigger companies. Also because they are a small company our media product wont go
worldwide because it will be only published in certain countries. Warp have published films like
’71, four lions and dead mans shoes. These could be classes as sub-genres of thrillers and also
four lions includes controversial content, so this is why I believe Warp would be a good company
for us to work with.
