1. Evaluation –
What kind of media institution
would distribute your media
product and why?
By Harry Pennington
2. Research
• For this part of the evaluation, I have decided to carry
out some research as to which film companies may
distribute our film, and as it is quite low budget it is
very good to know whether it would be able to remain so
based on how the company sees our film in relation to
others.
• Based on my research, I have listed 5 companies which
could potentially be suitable
3. 20th Century Fox
• One of the biggest companies in the world, they are famous for
being one of the “big six” of the films industry (Along with Warner
Bros, Paramount, Columbia, Universal and Disney)
Would they be willing to distribute our film?
• It is unlikely that they would even think about this, as our film was
from a very low budget and would probably not be very well-
received if the board of Fox found out, this was only included in
the list as they are probably one of the largest companies ever.
4. Film4
Would they be willing to produce our film?
• This one is not impossible. As we have a first-time
director this seems like the most feasible company
to go to for help. You would be very surprised if you
found out just how many films were actually
produced by them given the fact that they are not
one of the big companies in any way.
• This Company is well known for helping finance
and produce films for first-time directors or for
independent companies. They are usually
willing to help with smaller films and have
produced a massive range on genres
5. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
• They are well known for being the main producers of the James
Bond films, and were the producers of Get Carter – Which is very
relevant as it is in the same genre as our own film
Would they be willing to produce our film?
• Because of the kinds of films they generally produce, it is more
likely for them to help us as opposed to 20th Century Fox or
Universal (Which I did not include on this list as it is very similar to
Fox so would be pointless) and as they made Get Carter popular, it
would not be impossible for our film to be considered (albeit if it
was a significantly higher budget of film).
6. HandMade Films
• This is less well known than the others however it is
exactly the type of company that we are looking for:
They are a British company that was created by
George Harrison of Beatles fame, that have produced
crime films such as The Long Good Friday and Lock,
Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Would they be willing to produce our film?
• I have a feeling that out of the entire shortlist of
potential companies I have chosen, this one seems to
be the best choice. They are primarily British and
based on our film it is clear that ours is 100% British
and entirely crime-based which are exactly the
qualities that would encourage HandMade to help
with our production.
7. Columbia Pictures
• Another massive company. It is fairly obvious why this has been
included in the list: They were the main producers of Snatch – The
film of which much of our opening is based on. From this it can be
seen that they are more likely to produce these kinds of films,
exactly like ours.
• Would they be willing to produce our film?
• As I said before, they produced Snatch: Our opening was going to
be very similar to the opening to this film and with the changes we
have made, it still seems like it could have been made by
Columbia, which could hopefully get them to finance our film.
