How TLM Helps in Teaching and Learning
3. Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) are educational materials that teachers use in classroom
to support realization of specific learning objectives, as set out in their lesson plans

4. Teaching Learning Material Mediates between the
learner and the content/objective
Tety (2016) quotes Vygotsky as “human mind interacts with the materials in the learning process
where people learn from each other and use their experiences to successfully make sense of the
materials they interact with”. Tools and signs which are in the form of instructional materials
develops the higher level of thinking, that is important for problem solving.
Teaching Learning Materials work as mediators between the learner and learning outcome.
Teaching Learning Materials work as mediators through scaffolding
5. Zone
Learner learns
individually
The zone of Proximal
Development the Learner can
attain through Scaffolding
Beyond the
reach of the
learner
Zone of Proximal Development ( Vygotsky)
7. Guidelines to use Teaching Learning Materials
Objective
Based
Should be used to achieve specific objectives that can be attainable through
learning
Careful
planning
Realization of objective is possible only if it is planned in advance
Effectiveness
of the Material
The material should be used according to the effectiveness and objectives
( Refer Slide 8)
Avoid
distractions
due to
materials
TLM should not draw attention away from the main content or objective.
Evaluation of
material
Material should be evaluated before using in classroom situation based on
the quality of material as based on material, money and effort, age
appropriateness and security.
10. • better interpretation and appreciation. For concrete learning. knowledge
enhancement, Interest arousal, enriching imagination and thinking power of
students; as a result, they enable the students to learn faster, remember
longer and gain more accurate information.
11. Principles of Selecting and using TLM
1.Materials should encourage learners to apply their developing skills to the
world beyond the classroom (Nunan, 1988).
2.Materials should provide personal rather than mechanical practice (Bell &
Gower, 1998)
3.Materials should address the need for student centeredness (Tomlinson,
2011).
4.Materials should be relevant to students needs and contexts (Hutchinson &
Waters, 1987).
5.Materials should maximize learning potential by encouraging intellectual,
aesthetic and emotional involvement which stimulates both right- and left-brain
activity (Tomlinson, 2011).

17. Paradigm shift in teaching and Learning

teaching and learning
Online synchronous

18. Opportunities in new order to facilitate learning
process
• Many free tools are available in virtual world to make the teaching more
innovative and learning more collaborative, creative and effective.
Quizizz is a platform that strives to make learning
immersive and engaging and through gamification
of content

20. How TLM helps in Teaching and Learning
Proper use helps to retain more concept permanently.
Students can learn better when they are motivated properly through TLM.
TLM develop the proper image when the students see, hear taste and smell properly.
The TLM create the environment of interest for the students.
Helps to increase the vocabulary of the students.
