Galaxies And The NGC 1512 Galaxy
*Galaxies are beautiful and grand systems that exist in the universe. They come in different shapes and sizes, and they exist light years away. In this
essay I will be writing about galaxies and touching upon my favorite galaxy the NGC 1512 Galaxy. Which has a prism of color in the center of its
barred spiral galaxy, and it is a neighbor to our Milky Way.
*What is a galaxy? According to Nasa.gov, a galaxy "is a huge collection of gas, dust and billions of stars and their solar systems", (Site 1).
Everything that makes up a galaxy is supported through gravity and they can contain somewhere around a million stars and can range from a few
thousand to a couple hundred thousand light years across. The website CoolCosmos.edu states that galaxies can either be found alone, in pairs or in
large groups called clusters. They also say that galaxies can be broken down into three basic types: spirals, elliptical and irregular, (Site 2).... Show

They are broad rotating disks of stars and nebulae, encompassed by a layer of dark matter. A majority of spirals have a crown of stars andstar clusters
either atop or below the disk. Spiral galaxies tend to have copious amounts of bright bars stars and material that cut right across their central section
called "barred spirals". Galaxy NGC 1512 is a barred spiral galaxy near the Horologium constellation. Furthermore, numerous spirals can hold
supermassive black holes inside the base of them. These galaxies have subgroups, which can be defined by defined by their bulges, spiral arms, and
how compressed those arms are, (Site

Messier 91 Compare And Contrast
The comparison and contrast of Messier 89, Messier 91 and Messier 98
Charles Messier was a French astronomer who created an astronomical catalogue containing information on nebulae and star clusters, which was later
known as the 110 Messier objects. The catalogue was to help astronomical observers, particularly comet hunters.
As a comet hunter Charles Messier came across what are known now to be galaxies, nebulae, planetary nebulae and star clusters. With help from his
assistant Pierre MГ©chain, Messier composed a list of them. Messier done this to make it easier to differentiate between the comets they were looking
for and other objects. The list is made up of the objects that they could see from the north celestial pole to a celestial latitude ... Show more content on

M98 is an intermediate spiral galaxy, it is located approximately 44.4 million light years away in the Coma Berenices constellation. The M98 was
found by the French astronomer Pierre MГ©chain in 1781. Messier 98 has a blue shift, a right ascension of 12:13.8 (h:m), a declination of +14:54
(deg:m), a distance of 60000 (kly), a visual brightness of 10.1 (mag) and an apparent dimension of 9.5x3.2 (arc min). The morphological classification
of this galaxy is SAB(s)ab.
The image on the left is the Messier 98.
Galaxy morphological classification is used to divide galaxies into groups based on their appearance. There are multiple schemes used to classify
galaxies. The most famous is the Hubble sequence created by Edwin Hubble, which was later, expanded by Gerard de Vaucoulleurs and Allen Sandage.
The Hubble sequence is also known as the "Hubble tuning– fork" because of the shape it is represented by. The Hubble scheme divides galaxies into
three broad classes based in their appearance.

Milky Way Essay
The Milky Way
There are galaxies like between 300 billion and 500 billion in the space. One of them is the Milky Way. The first time Democritus explored the Milky
Way in 450 – 370 B.C. Democritus thought that the Milky Way is composed the hundreds of stars. Then Aristo researched the Milky Way. Aristo's
ideas about the Milky Way were token shape with combustion of stars. Then Ibn–i Heysem, Ibn Bacce, Ibn Kayyim El Cevziyye explored the Milky
Way. The first time Galileo Galile explored with a telescope. Gelileo Galile realized to the Milky Way composed the billions of stars. Then Thomas
Wright prepared a hypothesis about the Milky Way. Thomas Wright talked about the Milky Way composed the gravitational force of stars. Then
Immanuel Kant verified Thomas Wright with the own research. Finally William Herschel researched the Milky Way and William Herschel prepared a
diagram about the Milky Way. The Milky Way have a specific structure and a lot of spatial structures, there are analyzed involving six steps.

The Most Incomprehensible Thing About The World
"The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible."– Albert Einstein. Universe is a mysterious world that is
incomprehensible to clarify. However, through intelligence, intuition and ingenuity, it affected Humans to perceive the uncharted world they live in
and make it comprehensible. After the tremendous explosion, hundreds of billions of stars were swirling and interacting with each other by gravity,
constituting a galaxy. In the midst of chaos, there was the Milky Way galaxy, our galactic home. Unlike a regular spiral, the Milky Way galaxy is a
barred spiral that was comprised with two minor arms and spurs. One of the spurs, Onion Arm, contains the sun and the solar system. There are eight
planets in our solar system and they are all unique. Yet, out of all the planets,Saturn, perplexed many astronomers with its discoveries. First and
Foremost, the "chemical compounds in its upper atmosphere color, its cloud bands in subtle shades of ivory and broad, lacy rings that encircle Saturn",
captivated the astronomers with its charm. Although, ancient Greeks were able to detect Saturn thousand years ago, no one conceded that Saturn had
its rings, until Galileo perceived them with his telescope in 1610. Indeed, the discovery of Saturn left its mark on the history, where astronomers had an
abysmal quarrel whether it was heliocentric or geocentric.
II.Historical Context In fact, the oldest written records validating Saturn was attributed to Assyrians.

Galaxy Zoo: Merging Galaxies
The galaxy contains more than a trillion galaxies, each with millions of stars and countless amounts of planets. So, the project "Galaxy Zoo" aims to
classify some of these distant galaxies within the universe according to their shapes and appearances. Started in 2007, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
contributed around a million images of various galaxies in hopes to gain a better understanding about how galaxies form and what dark matter is. So,
this paper will explore interesting findings within the classification process and the project's educational impact. I chose to partake in "Galaxy Zoo"
because the vast majority of our universe remains widely unexplored, which leads to many unanswered questions. Further, the complex objects are

The one on the lower left is shown face–on with two, somewhat tight arms, and the other galaxy on the upper right seems to be viewed edge–on with a
bulge at the center. The first galaxy mentioned (left) could also have a barred feature running through the center, which should affect its rotation. When
these two massive structures merge, the entire structure of both will be shifted, and the result will be classified as a globular cluster or an extremely
irregular spiral galaxy.
Image 5: Irregular Spiral The image above depicts an irregular, barred spiral galaxy with two loose arms rotating in a counterclockwise rotation, and
a possible galaxy collision could have caused this abnormal shape. The blue color suggests that hotter, newer stars are present and forming within this

A Spiral Galaxy
NGC 1672, a barred spiral galaxy located in the direction of the southern constellation Dorado lies more than 60 million light–years away. This is a
spiral galaxy that's composed of stars in a central bar–shaped design. NGC 1672 is a member of the Seyfert galaxy, which was named after famous
astronomer, Carl Keenan Seyfert, who extensively studied galaxies with active nuclei in the 1940s. In the middle of NGC 1672's galaxy, it contains a
high surface brightness bar from which four wire–like spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy's symmetrical look is mainly formed by the four
extending arms of which are bordered with the most spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center. Unlike the normal galaxies, NGC 1672's
arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms are actually connected to both ends of a linear–like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In
fact, the arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was drawn to this image. The arms with the beautiful pinkish purple rays
look like an Eastern Redbud blossoming in the months of April–May, which have always caught my eye since I was a little kid. Visible from the
Southern Hemisphere, NGC 1672 shows extraordinary regions of star formations. Near the edges of this galaxy's galactic bar, the greatest clustering
of star formations can be found. The picture taken of NGC 1672 above was photographed with Hubble's Advanced Camera for a survey in August of
2005. This image is composed

Milky Way Research Paper
The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our solar system. Its name " Milky" was derived from its appearance as a dim glowing band arching
across the night sky whose individual stars cannot be distinguished by the naked eye. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy, which means it
spiral out from the middle. The first and most obvious thing to talk about is how it was formed. It began as an oversized mass left behind after the
big bang. The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. over densities were the seeds of global
clusters that formed many of our galaxies. Within a few billion years after the first birth of the star, these over densities had enough mass to be
spinning relatively fast. As the gravitational pull, pulled stars towards it, it began to gain size and mass. So how long has it been formed ? Based on a
process of nucleo cosmochronology, it it said to be 12.5 В± 3 billion to 13.8 В± 4 billion years old. That is a lot of time to gain mass, and to form into a
galaxy. It consists of a bar–shaped core region ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, 90% of it is totally invisible. Scientist find the relative mass of our galaxy, as I stated above. They then went and took all of the masses we
can see and found the combined mass of all of those. They thought that maybe they would roughly have 50% of the mass of the galaxy. Wrong, they
had only seen 10% of the total mass of the galaxy, making nearly 90% of it invisible to us. The spiral arms of theMilky Way are an illusion. The arms
we see, we would think that there aren't any stars in between the spirals. We are wrong again. There are just as many stars in between the spirals than
there are in the spirals themselves. So why do we see spirals ? The spirals are like a highway for stars, where the relative density is enhanced, making
the stars shine brighter than in between the

The Milky Way Galaxy Essay
Many people who live on Earth are close minded to what is really out there in the universe. They cannot even begin to fathom the vastness of it and
how Earth is just a tiny little speck compared to everything else out there. From the planets to the stars and out towards the edge of the unknown, we
can only see what science provides us with. From this, we know that we are nothing but a tiny planet located in a solar system of millions in a galaxy of
many more in the universe. A galaxy, also called a nebula, consists of billions of stars, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter which are all bound to
form a massive cloud in which we live in. Although it cannot be very well explained, dark matter makes up at least 90% of a galaxy's mass. ... Show

Once microwave radiation was discovered, studies improved on the Milky Way Galaxy. Its Doppler Shift can be used to map the motion of gas in it.
Also, with radio telescopes, hydrogen gas can now be traced. When the Hubble Space Telescope was introduced in 1990, that made exploring space so
much easier and more efficient. That's how we discovered so much about our universe– including galaxies!
The Milky Way received its name from the milky, white band of stars that go across the celestial sphere visible from Earth. However, in Greek
mythology, it is said that Zeus placed his mortal son, Heracles on Hera's breast while she was asleep so the baby could breastfeed to become
immortal. When she had awoken to a strange baby feeding off of her, she pushed Heracles away and a stream of milk sprayed through the night sky
forming the Milky Way. It is estimated that about 200 to 400 billion stars are located within the galaxy. The Milky Way is also one of the larger
galaxies that have a circumference of about 300 thousand light–years! There are many types and morphologies of galaxies. First, there are elliptical
galaxies which have elongated structures, like an ellipse. An elliptical galaxy on the Hubble Sequence, a classification system for galaxies, either

Introduction
Since man has looked to the heavens, he has used some form of identification to recognize the "stars". Early man named the constellations he could see
in his own ways. Even the ancient Australian Aboriginals used stories of the stars to identify times of the year for different things, be it song lines,
migration, vegetation growth and ripening, the list goes on. The Australian Aboriginals today still refer to theMilky Way's galactic centre and coal sack
nebula, as they are seen from earth, as the Emu; as it traverses the sky and ultimately out of visual, the song line changes and talks about it crossing the
land. The point being that man has always used some form of classification to discuss objects within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Much like climatologists looking at global warming, gather data to see what has from looking at core samples of the permafrost, using this data to
make reasonable hypotheses about what our climate will do in the future; we, humans, want to know more about what's happening in the universe,
including confirming the assumption that life exists beyond our solar system. To do this, Astronomers when looking to the skies, are looking into
the past. Why? One of the universal constants, light. Light has a finite speed and as a result of the tyranny of distance, light can only travel so far in
a given Earth Year. This means that when we are observing galaxies today, we are looking into the past, hundreds of thousands of years to billions of
years ago. However, just looking at galaxies is not good enough to be able to make these hypotheses. Wolf

M98 Observation Paper
For my observing project I chose to do Messier 98 (M98). I chose M98 because I am absolutely fascinated by galaxies, and I think spiral galaxies look
the coolest. M98 is located in the constellation Coma Berenices and it is in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. A French astronomer, named Pierre
Mechain, on March 15th 1781, discovered M98 and then Charles Messier measured its position and catalogued it on April 13, 1781. M98, also known
as NGC 4192, is located at a Right Ascension of 12h 13m 48s and at a Declination of +14В° 54' 2''. This means M98 rises at approximately 16 PDT
and sets at approximately 4 PDT, and is right overhead at approximately 22:00 PDT. It has apparent size of 9.8' by 2.8', an inclination of 74В°, an
apparent magnitude of 11.0, and it is located approximately 44.4 million light years away. Also M98, unlike most other galaxies, which are usually
red shifted and travelling away from us, is actually blue shifted and approaching us at about 140 km/s. Also M98's maximum rotational velocity,
which is at the very edge of its radius, is approximately 280 km/s. To observe M98 I took a seris of exposures in clear, red, green, and blue filters. I

This is hard to determine though due to M98's hard inclination of 74В°. M98's nucleus is active and this means that M98 is an active galaxy. To have an
active nucleus a galaxy's center has to be more luminous than the rest of the galaxy on most of, or all, of the electromagnetic spectrum, but M98 is
also considered a low–ionization nuclear emission– region type galaxy (LINER). This type of galactic nucleus has a specific kind of spectral line
emission. The spectral lines are mostly from weakly ionized and neutral atoms. M98 is also believed to have a supermassive black hole at the center
due to it being active, and emitting a lot of

Essay on Biography of Johann Elert Bode
Johann Elert Bode was born in Hamburg, Germany on January 19, 1747. His father was a merchant and his mother stayed at home with him and
his eight younger brothers and sisters. Bode never went to formal school, but his father was determined to teach him how to be a great merchant.
However, Bode didn't want to become a merchant. He was very interested in mathematics, geography, and astrology. He decided to go against what
his father was teaching him and pursue a career in Astrology instead. When Bode was a child he had a nasty eye infection that caused him to lose
most of his sight in his right eye. This didn't keep him from his studies or his astrological findings. When Bode was 18 his father died of a serious

Uranus was later found and its number is 19. Bode's law can not, however, accurately give the correct answer for Neptune and Pluto. While Bode's
name is in the name of the law he was not the person who created it. He was only the person who popularized it. Johann Daniel Titius was actually
the first person to first announce it. Bode had written about it in one of his studies but he had not credited Titius for his works, so people just
assumed that it was Bode's findings. Bode later gave Titius the credit he deserved, hence the second name of the law, Bode–Titius Law.
Bode has many other contributions to astronomy. He found, in total, four different celestial bodies and "rediscovered" three others. He discovered
M81, a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major; M82, an irregular galaxy also in Ursa Major; M53, a globular cluster in Coma Berenices; M92, another globular
cluster, in Hercules; M64, a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices, this one was discovered by Edward Pigott then Bode rediscovered it 12 days later;
M48, an open cluster in Hydra, discovered by Charles Messier; and IC4665, an open open cluster in Ophiuchus, discovered by De Cheseaux. Also,
in 1776 Bode created his version of the theory of the solar constitution. Later in 1795, Sir William Herschel created his theory of the theory of the
solar constitution by tweaking Bode's version to fit his beliefs. Bode is the man whom came up with the planet name "Uranus" and it has been called
that ever since.

Life and Discoveries of Edwin Hubble
Edwin Hubble was a pioneer astronomer who highly attributed to the study of the physical universe. He completely changed our understanding of the
universe by demonstrating that our universe is larger than what was previously thought and that the universe is expanding (Brown, n.d.). These
discoveries were also some of the first to support the theory behind the creation of the universe, the Big Bang (Sandage, 1989).
Edwin Powell Hubble was born November 20, 1889 in Marshfield, Missouri, U.S. (Edwin P. Hubble, 2006). Shortly after his birth, his parents Virginia

inch refractor. His first discovery was made when comparing images of nebulae over a few years. He noticed that there were faint changes occurring
in the nebulae demonstrating that changes in nebulae could occur (Osterbrock, 1990).. Hubble completed his doctorate in 1917(Brown, n.d.), to
which his thesis was titled "Photographic Investigations of Faint Nebulae." His thesis would foreshadow many of his future discoveries as it
emphasized that the nebulae exist outside of the Milky Way and possibly millions of light years away (Osterbrock, 1990). Upon completion of his

The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our Solar System. The descriptive "milky" is derived from the appearance from Earth of the galaxy a band
of light seen in the night. From Earth, the Milky Way appears as a band because its disk shaped structure is viewed from within. Galileo Galilei first
resolved the band of light into individual stars with his telescope in 1610. Until the early 1920s most astronomers thought that the Milky Way
contained all the stars in the Universe. Following the 1920 Great Debate between the astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis and an
observation by Edwin Hubble showed that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies.

In about 4 billion years, the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide. The two neighbouring galaxies are located in a collection of other
galaxies acknowledged as the local group. This group contains more than 50 galaxies, with a majority of them being dwarf galaxies. The largest and
most massive of galaxies are the Milky Way, Andromeda, and the Triangulumgalaxy. All three of these have a gathering of satellite galaxies
surrounding them. Just like how planets orbit around the sun, these smaller galaxies contain billions of stars and orbit around the galaxy's center. The
satellite galaxies orbit these larger galaxies due to the great gravitational attraction the larger galaxies emit.
The Milky Way galaxy has an assortment of approximately 30 satellite galaxies which include Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, Large Magellanic Cloud,

objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous than
quasars. These galaxies have supermassive black holes at their centers which are surrounded by accretion discs of in–falling material. The accretion...

This is confirmed by the fact that the narrow lines do not vary detectably, which implies that the emitting region is large, contrary to the broad lines
which can vary on relatively short timescales. Reverberation mapping is a technique which uses this variability to try to determine the location and
morphology of the emitting region. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad line emitting region by observing the changes in
the emitted lines as a response to changes in the continuum. The use of reverberation mapping requires the assumption that the continuum originates in
a single central source. For 35 AGN, reverberation mapping has been used to calculate the mass of the central black holes and the size of the broad
line regions. In the few radio–loud Seyfert galaxies that have been observed, the radio emission is believed to represent synchrotron emission from the
jet. The infrared emission is due to radiation in other bands being reprocessed by dust near the nucleus. The highest energy photons are believed to be
created by inverse Compton scattering by a high temperature corona near the black

The Large Magellanic Clouds Essay examples
Paper I: The Large Magellanic Clouds
Introduction The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a large and diffuse galaxy that resides in the southern hemisphere of the sky, barely visible to the
naked eye between the constellations of Mensa and Dorado.1,2,3 The LMC shares its namesake with the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), both named
for Ferdinand Magellan, who noted their existence on his journey around the world.1,3 This pair of galaxies shares a dust lane and interacts with each
other through tidal forces.2,3 Structure of the Large Magellanic Cloud from 2MASS
The LMC morphology can be described as "an irregular barred spiral galaxy with three spiral arms and an extended outer loop of stellar material," with
a disk incline of 27В° ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given an unknown period, the luminosity–color relation is applicable to find luminosities; it is intuitive that given such a relationship, a narrow color
interval will result in a similarly narrow luminosity range.4 Through these methods, carbon–rich LPVs in the J region are chosen as the standard candle
of choice.4
The mysterious bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud: what is it?
The prominent bar in the LMC suggests that it may have previously existed as a barred spiral galaxy.3 The LMC's notably off–center bar was studied by
Subramaniam and

Galaxies And The NGC 1512 Galaxy

  • 1. Galaxies And The NGC 1512 Galaxy *Galaxies are beautiful and grand systems that exist in the universe. They come in different shapes and sizes, and they exist light years away. In this essay I will be writing about galaxies and touching upon my favorite galaxy the NGC 1512 Galaxy. Which has a prism of color in the center of its barred spiral galaxy, and it is a neighbor to our Milky Way. *What is a galaxy? According to Nasa.gov, a galaxy "is a huge collection of gas, dust and billions of stars and their solar systems", (Site 1). Everything that makes up a galaxy is supported through gravity and they can contain somewhere around a million stars and can range from a few thousand to a couple hundred thousand light years across. The website CoolCosmos.edu states that galaxies can either be found alone, in pairs or in large groups called clusters. They also say that galaxies can be broken down into three basic types: spirals, elliptical and irregular, (Site 2).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are broad rotating disks of stars and nebulae, encompassed by a layer of dark matter. A majority of spirals have a crown of stars andstar clusters either atop or below the disk. Spiral galaxies tend to have copious amounts of bright bars stars and material that cut right across their central section called "barred spirals". Galaxy NGC 1512 is a barred spiral galaxy near the Horologium constellation. Furthermore, numerous spirals can hold supermassive black holes inside the base of them. These galaxies have subgroups, which can be defined by defined by their bulges, spiral arms, and how compressed those arms are, (Site ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Messier 91 Compare And Contrast The comparison and contrast of Messier 89, Messier 91 and Messier 98 Charles Messier was a French astronomer who created an astronomical catalogue containing information on nebulae and star clusters, which was later known as the 110 Messier objects. The catalogue was to help astronomical observers, particularly comet hunters. As a comet hunter Charles Messier came across what are known now to be galaxies, nebulae, planetary nebulae and star clusters. With help from his assistant Pierre MГ©chain, Messier composed a list of them. Messier done this to make it easier to differentiate between the comets they were looking for and other objects. The list is made up of the objects that they could see from the north celestial pole to a celestial latitude ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... M98 is an intermediate spiral galaxy, it is located approximately 44.4 million light years away in the Coma Berenices constellation. The M98 was found by the French astronomer Pierre MГ©chain in 1781. Messier 98 has a blue shift, a right ascension of 12:13.8 (h:m), a declination of +14:54 (deg:m), a distance of 60000 (kly), a visual brightness of 10.1 (mag) and an apparent dimension of 9.5x3.2 (arc min). The morphological classification of this galaxy is SAB(s)ab. The image on the left is the Messier 98. Galaxy morphological classification is used to divide galaxies into groups based on their appearance. There are multiple schemes used to classify galaxies. The most famous is the Hubble sequence created by Edwin Hubble, which was later, expanded by Gerard de Vaucoulleurs and Allen Sandage. The Hubble sequence is also known as the "Hubble tuning– fork" because of the shape it is represented by. The Hubble scheme divides galaxies into three broad classes based in their appearance. Elliptical galaxies Smooth featureless light distributions. Appears as an ellipsis in images. They are reperesented by the letter E.

The first time Democritus explored the Milky Way in 450 – 370 B.C. Democritus thought that the Milky Way is composed the hundreds of stars. Then Aristo researched the Milky Way. Aristo's ideas about the Milky Way were token shape with combustion of stars. Then Ibn–i Heysem, Ibn Bacce, Ibn Kayyim El Cevziyye explored the Milky Way. The first time Galileo Galile explored with a telescope. Gelileo Galile realized to the Milky Way composed the billions of stars. Then Thomas Wright prepared a hypothesis about the Milky Way. Thomas Wright talked about the Milky Way composed the gravitational force of stars. Then Immanuel Kant verified Thomas Wright with the own research. Finally William Herschel researched the Milky Way and William Herschel prepared a diagram about the Milky Way. The Milky Way have a specific structure and a lot of spatial structures, there are analyzed involving six steps. The Milky Way is barred spiralgalaxy. Concentration of star shaped bar in the center creates the shape of the galaxy. The Milky Way has 50 billion years spiral pattern rotation period. • 6. The Most Incomprehensible Thing About The World "The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible."– Albert Einstein. Universe is a mysterious world that is incomprehensible to clarify. However, through intelligence, intuition and ingenuity, it affected Humans to perceive the uncharted world they live in and make it comprehensible. After the tremendous explosion, hundreds of billions of stars were swirling and interacting with each other by gravity, constituting a galaxy. In the midst of chaos, there was the Milky Way galaxy, our galactic home. Unlike a regular spiral, the Milky Way galaxy is a barred spiral that was comprised with two minor arms and spurs. One of the spurs, Onion Arm, contains the sun and the solar system. There are eight planets in our solar system and they are all unique. Yet, out of all the planets,Saturn, perplexed many astronomers with its discoveries. First and Foremost, the "chemical compounds in its upper atmosphere color, its cloud bands in subtle shades of ivory and broad, lacy rings that encircle Saturn", captivated the astronomers with its charm. Although, ancient Greeks were able to detect Saturn thousand years ago, no one conceded that Saturn had its rings, until Galileo perceived them with his telescope in 1610. Indeed, the discovery of Saturn left its mark on the history, where astronomers had an abysmal quarrel whether it was heliocentric or geocentric. • 7. Galaxy Zoo: Merging Galaxies The galaxy contains more than a trillion galaxies, each with millions of stars and countless amounts of planets. So, the project "Galaxy Zoo" aims to classify some of these distant galaxies within the universe according to their shapes and appearances. Started in 2007, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey contributed around a million images of various galaxies in hopes to gain a better understanding about how galaxies form and what dark matter is. So, this paper will explore interesting findings within the classification process and the project's educational impact. I chose to partake in "Galaxy Zoo" because the vast majority of our universe remains widely unexplored, which leads to many unanswered questions. Further, the complex objects are breathtakingly ... This is a spiral galaxy that's composed of stars in a central bar–shaped design. NGC 1672 is a member of the Seyfert galaxy, which was named after famous astronomer, Carl Keenan Seyfert, who extensively studied galaxies with active nuclei in the 1940s. In the middle of NGC 1672's galaxy, it contains a high surface brightness bar from which four wire–like spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy's symmetrical look is mainly formed by the four extending arms of which are bordered with the most spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center. Unlike the normal galaxies, NGC 1672's arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms are actually connected to both ends of a linear–like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In fact, the arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was drawn to this image. The arms with the beautiful pinkish purple rays look like an Eastern Redbud blossoming in the months of April–May, which have always caught my eye since I was a little kid. Visible from the Southern Hemisphere, NGC 1672 shows extraordinary regions of star formations. Near the edges of this galaxy's galactic bar, the greatest clustering of star formations can be found. • 9. Milky Way Research Paper The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our solar system. Its name " Milky" was derived from its appearance as a dim glowing band arching across the night sky whose individual stars cannot be distinguished by the naked eye. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy, which means it spiral out from the middle. The first and most obvious thing to talk about is how it was formed. It began as an oversized mass left behind after the big bang. The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. over densities were the seeds of global clusters that formed many of our galaxies. Within a few billion years after the first birth of the star, these over densities had enough mass to be spinning relatively fast. As the gravitational pull, pulled stars towards it, it began to gain size and mass. So how long has it been formed ? Based on a process of nucleo cosmochronology, it it said to be 12.5 В± 3 billion to 13.8 В± 4 billion years old. That is a lot of time to gain mass, and to form into a galaxy. Wrong, they had only seen 10% of the total mass of the galaxy, making nearly 90% of it invisible to us. The spiral arms of theMilky Way are an illusion. The arms we see, we would think that there aren't any stars in between the spirals. We are wrong again. There are just as many stars in between the spirals than there are in the spirals themselves. They cannot even begin to fathom the vastness of it and how Earth is just a tiny little speck compared to everything else out there. From the planets to the stars and out towards the edge of the unknown, we can only see what science provides us with. From this, we know that we are nothing but a tiny planet located in a solar system of millions in a galaxy of many more in the universe. A galaxy, also called a nebula, consists of billions of stars, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter which are all bound to form a massive cloud in which we live in. M98 is located in the constellation Coma Berenices and it is in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. A French astronomer, named Pierre Mechain, on March 15th 1781, discovered M98 and then Charles Messier measured its position and catalogued it on April 13, 1781. M98, also known as NGC 4192, is located at a Right Ascension of 12h 13m 48s and at a Declination of +14В° 54' 2''. This means M98 rises at approximately 16 PDT and sets at approximately 4 PDT, and is right overhead at approximately 22:00 PDT. It has apparent size of 9.8' by 2.8', an inclination of 74В°, an apparent magnitude of 11.0, and it is located approximately 44.4 million light years away. Also M98, unlike most other galaxies, which are usually red shifted and travelling away from us, is actually blue shifted and approaching us at about 140 km/s. Seyfert galaxies account for about 10% of all galaxies and are some of the most intensely studied objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous than quasars. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad line emitting region by observing the changes in the emitted lines as a response to changes in the continuum. The use of reverberation mapping requires the assumption that the continuum originates in a single central source. For 35 AGN, reverberation mapping has been used to calculate the mass of the central black holes and the size of the broad line regions.
