2. Analyze the Learner
• I’m teaching a private school 7th grade class
English class.
• My classroom has 16 students.
• 9 girls and 7 boys
• 2 of my girls are vision impaired,
• 3 (2 boys and 1 girl) have ADD,
• 1 student has an IEP,
• And 1 student has Asperger's.
3. Main Objective
• My students will demonstrate their
understanding of the different types of genres
and writing styles by writing three journal
entries showing any of the genres and writing
styles they choose over the course of a week
with 90% accuracy.
4. Day-to-Day
• Day One- I will introduce my students to genre and
writing style. The definitions and most common of
both will be discussed. Examples will be shown in
popular writing and students will be asked to write
down a few of their own examples of each.
• Day Two- The class will focused on how genre and
writing style are connected.
• Day Three- Students will be seated in small groups,
and asked to exchange ideas for each of the different
genres and styles of writing. They will be assigned a
specific type and will create a book cover poster to
hang in the class room.
5. Day-to-Day
• Day Four- The students will go to the library
and find books that represent each of the
genres and include the specific writing styles
we’ve talked about.
• Day Five- Students will spend the class period
journaling about three genres and writing
styles of their choice. They will include the
books they found at the library in their journals
as well.
