The student learned to do more research on existing media conventions and forms for their full product. They planned more thoroughly considering structure and features of music magazines. The photography, journalism, digital image editing, and design skills all improved from gaining experience and doing more research. The student created a better looking and more professional magazine that followed conventions through learning and practicing their skills more.
1. Evaluation Q7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
2. When I designed my preliminary task, I did not do as much research
into the forms and conventions of already existing media products. I
think this has allowed me to create a much better and more
professional looking magazine as my final product as I followed the
forms and conventions much more in the design phase.
I also did not put as much thought into planning my preliminary task as
I did with my full product, I drew sketches originally but on the full
product I considered structure, features of already existing music
magazines and how I would lay out the pages.
3. The photography for my full product has also improved since the
preliminary task, it is more appropriate and I think that the images on
the full product are much more visually interesting as the models are
wearing more suitable posing, the lighting is better and they convey
more attitude. I think that my journalism has improved a lot since the
preliminary task and feel that the article I wrote in the main task was
much more professionally structured and provided appropriate
amounts of information to the audience.
4. My digital image manipulation has definitely improved as I have
learned how to use Photoshop more confidently when editing the
images, I feel that the superimposed image is much stronger than the
image on my preliminary task and the way I have used the levels and
brightness/contrast tools have allowed me to create more interesting
images in the main task. My design skills have improved also; I know
this because I think that the product of my main task is much better
looking than my preliminary task. I think that I have learnt more about
how to structure and put together a magazine more clearly and
professionally than before.
