1. AS Media Studies Evaluation
Questions
Q7. Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full
product?
4. When working on my
preliminary task cover my
colour scheme was terrible
and the colours we
randomly slected. So I have
learned that I should
establish a clear colour
scheme from the beginning
as this helps to link the
different elements of the
magazine. As you can see
I’ve included the colours
white, black and baby blue
My preliminary cover
contains an image of the
subject reading a book with
her face covered and a box
over her face. While doing
this course I discovered that
when taking pictures I
should encourage eye
contact and the coverlines
should not cover the
subjects face. In my grime
cover I made sure to include
intense eye contact.
In my preliminary task I used
one built in font. This made
my cover and contents page
look very boring , amateur
and unprofessional. By
downloading new fonts I
really improved the overall
quality of my work. So in my
grime cover I used 3 or 4
different fonts and this
made my cover interesing to
look at.
In my prelim task I only
included 2 coverlines and
no sublines. This again
was improved by
researching other
magazine covers and
learning about the
conventions of magazines
in lessons. So in my grime
cover I included 4
coverlines all with
sublines
5. In my first contents page all I
included on the page was the
title of the feature and the
page number, this left my
page looking empty and there
is no appeal for the reader. As
a part of my research I found
out that I needed to include a
detailed summary of the
feature as well as the title and
page as I have done in my new
contents. This has made my
contents page a little busier
and gives the reader a lead in.
My preliminary contents
page was very boring and
included nothing to inspire
and interest the reader. I
learned that I can use quotes
to enhance my contents
page. I included them in my
grime contents page and it
would reinforce the grime
community is a community,
and working together is key.
I would have never thought
to do this without
conducting my research.
Planning and research is
imperative. I learned during
this course that without
having a rough idea, plan or
inspiration; designing 3
elements of a magazine is very
difficult.
In my preliminary task I did
the bare minimum of research
and got the consequences.
The two parts of my
preliminary task look very
separate, Iearnt thought
needs to be put into all
three parts of the
coursework, so it looks
more well put together. I
achieved this by using
similar pictures and the
same colour schemes.
6. In conclusion
I have thoroughly enjoyed taking my Media AS, I
have learnt a lot about using different pieces of
software like Photoshop. And I have really
enjoyed learning about the thought and
planning that goes into magazines.
Thanks for reading!
