2. Front cover
For a front page the key features to include are:
•A masthead
• Pictures
• Cover lines
•The price
• A main headline
• Usually a barcode
For my magazine I have included most of the key elements to my front page:
•A masthead
• One main picture
• Cover lines
• The price
• A main headline
• A barcode
To make my magazine cover stand out from most everyday magazines, I
have included a tag line and a free CD (which is not on the page but shown
where it should be). Also I have laid the title behind my main picture which
is unlike most front covers and lastly I have used very bright colours to
attract the audiences eye towards my magazine in order to push the
boundaries a little.
3. Contents Page
The key ingredients to include on a contents page would be:
• Pictures
• Page numbers
• Heading
• Content
• Usually a letter from editor
• Sometimes the masthead
On my contents page the key features I have included are:
• Pictures
• Page numbers
• Heading
• Content
• A letter from editor
• The masthead
In addition I also added the issue number, the date, a great
competion offering free tickets to a concert and graphics
leading to what is on the free CD to my contents page. The
masthead has been used so that the audience can feel a sense
of familiarity with the magazine. I feel that my contents page
is different as it is very specific too the genre of music and
concentrates on dance/electro music.
4. Double Page Spread
On a double page spread features that should be included
on the page are:
• Title
• Picture/s
• Text
• Questions and answers (if interview)
• Page numbers
The key aspects for my double page spread I included
were:
• A title
• Picture/s
• Text
• Questions and answers
• Page numbers
To make my double page distinct from the other music
magazines I added a banner of pictures of my main subject
across the bottom of the page, both in black and white and
also in colour. Next to the right hand side page number I
added the masthead of the magazine so that the audience
become familiar with the name of my magazine and its
brand identity. Lastly I added the word “Exclusive” to my
picture so that the readers get the impression that they
have spent their money well and are getting a premium
experience.
5. I believe that each of my pages is very specific to the genre of music dance
and electro which I was trying to portray and that this has made my
magazine truly unique. The way in which I have made sure that on all
three pages I have included the masthead and brand identity will
create a sense of familiarity and friendliness between the magazine and
its readers. I did make sure that all the key ingredients to a music
magazine was included as well as included my own individual ideas to
produce three good, professional pages.
6. The social group that I have planned my magazine launch around were both male and females
aged between 18-24 year olds and who have a strong interest in dance and electro music. I
represented the social group of my magazine in a positive light and the mode of address of my
language was very friendly and welcoming, striking a good balance between both text and
pictures. Although a negative threat on the front page was my main headline, where the words of
“Georgie Baker” used, “Watch out Calvin, I’m unstoppable” were quite bold and harsh but this was
deliberate on my part as my reasoning behind the quote was to attract the readers attention.
7. Representation
1. The use of bright colours on all three of my pages I personally think represented the 18-24
year old, electro/dance social group particularly well as it stands out quite boldly against the
background and the vibrant colours would fit in with the readers bubbly, youthful and upbeat
personalities.
1. The images on the magazine would portray their social groups well as each picture is mainly
of a younger person and the language I used was very informal, chatty, down to earth and not
fake but very real.
1. The social group that my magazine represents would much prefer a high ratio of images to
text, which I acted upon as images stand out more and attract their eye and attention. A big
chunk of text would have the risk to bore the readers which could negatively effect interest
in my magazine.
1. The magazine Is deliberately stereotypical as what I have earlier re-searched is that my
target market audience will be your normal average everyday person. Remix is a
positive, upbeat, bright, loud and funky magazine which shows that my readers are in tune
with the latest trends and they are not boring and dull.
1. My magazine does not characterize anything to do with either power or class. The main
subject “Georgie Baker” is a normal young adult and along with all of the other images of
people on my pages they represent very well my target social group of 18-24 year olds.
1. Out of all of the images males are generally shown more which may mean that my magazine
is directed and appeals more to a male audience although undoubtedly “Georgie Baker” will
be admired by a female audience. Also the magazine concentrates more on the music
representation of things compared to the gossip and celebrity news which girls seem to
enjoy more.
1. I didn’t feel the need to focus on ethnicity but in hindsight I wished I would have represented
a mixture and range of ethnic groups.
