2. #1 IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT, USE DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS?
3. Key elements of a music magazine
Strong design and layout
Appropriate use of text and images
Consideration of target audience
Creating the ‘right image’
4. My magazine had it’s own house style. The colours and font used
front cover will appear on all issues of Baseline, this similar to the
large red letter font used by Q music magazine. Consumers are
immediately aware that the media product below to Q music
magazine when they see this image. I also used conventional
features such as a headline, masthead, strap lines, image and a
barcode. I felt that there was less ability to use other features on
the front cover of the magazine as these coventions familiarise
the audience with the product. They allow us to instantly know
what the media product is.
5. In my opinion I believed the conventions used in my
music magazine were influenced by the genre of music it
represents which is pop and rnb music. The image on my
front cover exudes confidence and attitude. Also the
designs used on my contents page were relatively
modern and could be linked to magazine such as Vibe or
NME. However I felt the my contents page followed some
conventional ideas such as a higher proportion of text to
image.
6. My double page spread uses typical
conventions such as an artist feature, Teri the
singer which invites Teri’s fans to purchase and
read the magazine. There is an equal balance of
image and text, a page for each. I chose this as
my image was strong enough to stand alone.
7. #2 HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
8. My music magazine is designed to showcase the talents of teens
as artists, this is shown by my celebrity artist feature Teri. It
presents teens also as models, on the contents page a teen Ellen
is photography can be seen. The music magazine provides a
positive image for young females as independent and successful
individuals. Which is contrary to the typical dependent and
emotional female usually presented.
9. My magazine also plays upon the stereotypical ideas
that females gossip about each other and argue with
each other as it is a source of entertainment for
audiences and encourages them to read the
magazine. In my opinion a strong and controversial
masthead will potentially catch a consumers attention
and encourage sales of the magazine.
