Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs
Editing to the
beat
This was used
throughout my music
video as the video
would not look
professional if I did
not cut the shots to
the beat. I looked at
the beat of the music
and I made sure that
all the shots were the
same length as the
beat. I did this
because this is seen
throughout many
professional music
videos.
I developed my
knowledge of
editing to the beat
by looking at
other music
videos in the
genre of my
chosen song
‘Embrace this Day’
by Pandaman. The
genre of my music
video was house.
I did not challenge
the editing to the
beat.

Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs
Lip-syncing I lip synced several
clips of my artist
singing. I lip synced by
finding a place in the
music that was
dramatic, for example
a loud beat, and then I
found the same beat
in the clip of the lip
syncing. I put markers
in both of these
places and then I
matched them up. For
bits of the lip syncing
that I did not want to
use, I put clips over
the top of them.
I developed my
knowledge in lip
syncing as
throughout the
course I became
more familiar with
the software,
however in the
video I did not
develop my lip
syncing as I did
not know how to.
At the beginning, I
found the lip
syncing was very
challenging as I
did not have much
knowledge in this
area of editing.
Once I knew more
about the area, it
became fairly
easy. However, I
tried to cut some
of the lip syncing
clips and it would
move all the other
clips with it, this
was a challenge as
I was not sure
how to do it
without the rest
of the clips
moving.

Artist
Performance
I used artist performance
to an extent. I wanted to
not reveal my artist
throughout the video
until the end. I did this by
making the lip syncing
shots just the mouth and
the side profile of their
face. The artist singing
the lyrics was a women
and the person making
the music was a man, I
did not know how to
include a male role into
the storyline, therefore
instead of incorporating
the male character in the
video, I took the name of
the artist ‘Pandaman’
and had a panda
character throughout the
video.
I developed this
throughout the
video as I initially
was only going
to have the
panda character
in the video, but
during the
making I decided
to add a female
character that is
singing the lyrics.
I did challenge this
as the majority of
music videos in
the music industry
include the artist
throughout the
video and in my
video I did not, as I
thought that it
would look better
to not add the
artist.

Multiple
settings
I used many
different settings
around central
London to make
the video more
interesting. There
were many music
videos that I saw
which had many
iconic places and I
wanted to use this
in my own music
video. This was
also convenient as
I live in London.
I developed this by
using settings out of
central London too.
I chose to go to a
woods and film
dancing shots and
the scenery. I
thought this was
appropriate as
Pandas live in green
areas and around
trees. As I could not
go to a jungle I
chose to film in a
woods.
This was a challenge
as central London is a
very busy place and I
had to re film many
shots as other people
would get in the way
and the shot would
not be clear.

Parallel Editing I did not use parallel
editing in my music
video, this was
because I had one
character in my video
and instead I used
continuity editing to
follow the panda
around central
London.
I did not develop
parallel editing as I
did not use this in
my music video.
I did not challenge
this as I was
unable to use it.
However I added
shots that were
split into 4
different shots.

SFX I used different
effects and
transactions
throughout the music
video, the majority of
this is seen about half
way through the
song. I added these as
I though they were
appropriate to the
music genre. The
music is happy and I
thought that adding
effects to make the
colours brighter
would make the shots
go well along side of
the song.
I developed them
throughout the
video, as at first I
did not want to
add effects as I
thought that it
would spoil the
effect of the
shots, however
once I got familiar
with it, I wanted
to add a lot of
them as they did
actually add a
good effect to the
music video.
I did not challenge
this as I did not go
into detail to
make the special
effects really
sophisticated like
they are in
professional music
videos.

Track
Introduction
I introduced my track
with a shot of a field
with the sky and the
clouds, I sped this up
so the clip was
shorter and so the
clouds were moving
quicker. After this, the
shots went straight to
the story of the
pandas day out.
I did not develop
this as I already
knew how I was
going to introduce
the track before
starting the
filming.
To an extent this is
a challenge and
not as, many
music videos in
the music industry
go straight into
the music, like my
music video, but
there are also
music videos that
have a shot video
before to
introduce the
music, and the
story line of the
music/video.

Genre
Conventions
I made sure that the
genre of the music
was portrayed in the
shots, I did this by the
clothes that panda
was wearing, the
dancing shots (cutting
shapes) which is a
typical dance people
do to house music
and also by using
effects that are bright
and colourful.
I developed this
by making certain
shots reversed
and normal
throughout, I
thought this was
suitable for the
genre as it made
the people/panda
were dancing, it
also made the
video more
interesting to the
audience
watching.
I did not challenge
this as the
majority of house
tracks, are
different to a rap
track. I looked at
house music, and
certain things that
they used, I tried
to incorporate
them into my own
music video.

Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Editing to the beat This was used throughout my music video as the video would not look professional if I did not cut the shots to the beat. I looked at the beat of the music and I made sure that all the shots were the same length as the beat. I did this because this is seen throughout many professional music videos. I developed my knowledge of editing to the beat by looking at other music videos in the genre of my chosen song ‘Embrace this Day’ by Pandaman. The genre of my music video was house. I did not challenge the editing to the beat.
  • 3. Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Lip-syncing I lip synced several clips of my artist singing. I lip synced by finding a place in the music that was dramatic, for example a loud beat, and then I found the same beat in the clip of the lip syncing. I put markers in both of these places and then I matched them up. For bits of the lip syncing that I did not want to use, I put clips over the top of them. I developed my knowledge in lip syncing as throughout the course I became more familiar with the software, however in the video I did not develop my lip syncing as I did not know how to. At the beginning, I found the lip syncing was very challenging as I did not have much knowledge in this area of editing. Once I knew more about the area, it became fairly easy. However, I tried to cut some of the lip syncing clips and it would move all the other clips with it, this was a challenge as I was not sure how to do it without the rest of the clips moving.
  • 4. Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Artist Performance I used artist performance to an extent. I wanted to not reveal my artist throughout the video until the end. I did this by making the lip syncing shots just the mouth and the side profile of their face. The artist singing the lyrics was a women and the person making the music was a man, I did not know how to include a male role into the storyline, therefore instead of incorporating the male character in the video, I took the name of the artist ‘Pandaman’ and had a panda character throughout the video. I developed this throughout the video as I initially was only going to have the panda character in the video, but during the making I decided to add a female character that is singing the lyrics. I did challenge this as the majority of music videos in the music industry include the artist throughout the video and in my video I did not, as I thought that it would look better to not add the artist.
  • 5. Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Multiple settings I used many different settings around central London to make the video more interesting. There were many music videos that I saw which had many iconic places and I wanted to use this in my own music video. This was also convenient as I live in London. I developed this by using settings out of central London too. I chose to go to a woods and film dancing shots and the scenery. I thought this was appropriate as Pandas live in green areas and around trees. As I could not go to a jungle I chose to film in a woods. This was a challenge as central London is a very busy place and I had to re film many shots as other people would get in the way and the shot would not be clear.

Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Parallel Editing I did not use parallel editing in my music video, this was because I had one character in my video and instead I used continuity editing to follow the panda around central London. I did not develop parallel editing as I did not use this in my music video. I did not challenge this as I was unable to use it. However I added shots that were split into 4 different shots.

Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs SFX I used different effects and transactions throughout the music video, the majority of this is seen about half way through the song. I added these as I though they were appropriate to the music genre. The music is happy and I thought that adding effects to make the colours brighter would make the shots go well along side of the song. I developed them throughout the video, as at first I did not want to add effects as I thought that it would spoil the effect of the shots, however once I got familiar with it, I wanted to add a lot of them as they did actually add a good effect to the music video. I did not challenge this as I did not go into detail to make the special effects really sophisticated like they are in professional music videos.

Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Track Introduction I introduced my track with a shot of a field with the sky and the clouds, I sped this up so the clip was shorter and so the clouds were moving quicker. After this, the shots went straight to the story of the pandas day out. I did not develop this as I already knew how I was going to introduce the track before starting the filming. To an extent this is a challenge and not as, many music videos in the music industry go straight into the music, like my music video, but there are also music videos that have a shot video before to introduce the music, and the story line of the music/video.

Forms & Conventions of a Music Video Use Develop Challenge Screen Grabs Genre Conventions I made sure that the genre of the music was portrayed in the shots, I did this by the clothes that panda was wearing, the dancing shots (cutting shapes) which is a typical dance people do to house music and also by using effects that are bright and colourful. I developed this by making certain shots reversed and normal throughout, I thought this was suitable for the genre as it made the people/panda were dancing, it also made the video more interesting to the audience watching. I did not challenge this as the majority of house tracks, are different to a rap track. I looked at house music, and certain things that they used, I tried to incorporate them into my own music video.
