2. Before I created my own music video, I did a lot of
research into other music videos and the conventions they
typically have. My video does contain some conventions
which are normally seen in most music videos but
challenges others.
3. ARTIST IN THE MUSIC
VIDEO
At first my video conforms to the convention of having the
artist in the video because in the opening part of the video
the artist the only one on screen. I believe it starts of with the
artist as this shows the audience who they should be
focusing on.
4. Through the music video the artist is involved in every scene
which conforms to the stereotype of a media product such as
a music video. It is most likely that if the song applies to their
personal life then they will star in the music video. However
my music video does also challenge the forms and
convention of real music video as my music video only stars
the artist rather than having her partner casting with her.
Normally when there is a song about ‘love’ it is most likely
that the couple will be casted in the music video. In my music
video I have only casted the artist and not her partner, I have
involved images of her partner but have not involved him in
person in the music video. This challenges the usual
convention of having the both partners involved in the music
video.
5. LIP SYNCHING
Lip synching is a common convention in music videos. My
music videos conforms this convention as throughout the
music video it features lip synching.
6. PERFORMANCE
As well as lip synching the artist is also playing a instrument
‘guitar’. This is used in one of my scenes in my music video
as this presents the artist as the centre of attention.
7. NARRATIVE
Narrative is when the video shows video footage of a scene
where the meaning behind the lyrics is being acted out. I
wanted to use this throughout my music video but was
unable to collect shot I required to do so and therefore opted
not to use this.
8. CAMERA SHOT – CLOSE UP
These are shots that are used to focus on one area of a
person or located often a person face. These often focus on
the artist whilst they are singing or showing emotion. In
narrative they are often used to show emotion and
expression. I used a number of these shots because they
allow the audience to relate to the artist and also make the
artist the centre of attention which I wanted.
9. EDITING
Footage is edited to match the timing of the lyrics. This is lip
synching. I correctly and effectively lip synched all my shots
throughout my video. This is because if this was poor the
video quality would be low.
10. MISE-EN-SCENE
All music videos include props, this is because performance videos
will use microphones and/or instruments throughout and narrative
videos will use objects such as cars. This is a necessity for music
videos because without props the shot will look empty. The only prop
I used was a guitar because wanted the audience to focus solely on
the artist and concentrate on the music more than the music video.
All music videos include location. This is generally used to set the
scene and create an atmosphere. The narrative will be more
dependent on this because the location must match the feeling and
style of the song. There are two locations in my music video and they
are both are outdoors. One location is in the woods and the other is
outdoors full of nature. These location were suitable for the style of
my song therefore we used these locations as I believed that they
were ideal
