forms and conventions of
real media products?

Types Of Music Videos
 Performance
 A music video containing a performance is where an artist is commonly featured singing along with the
song
 Other types of performance music videos can include instruments being played along with the song or
someone dancing
 Narrative
 A music video containing a narrative is where the video contains a story that commonly links to the song
Types Of Music Videos
 Animation
 This is when animations are used within the video
 This is commonly used as a narrative but can also be used as performance
 Some examples include lyrics, drawings and stop motion
 Cameo
 This is when the artist is featured in the video but is not putting on a performance
My Music Video Type
 For my music video I included a mixture of performance and narrative
 For the performance I will include one of my actors (Jack) lip syncing the song to show the
audience who the artist is
 Most of the music video will contain a narrative and show an actor (Penny) and a dog (Pippa)
who will be showing a story of having a good day with some links to the lyrics to keep it linked to
the song
Mise-en-scene
 This mise-en-scene contains costume, props, location
 Location
 For my music video there are two main locations, for the performance it is a blank white background so
the audience can focus on the actor
 For the narrative section the main location is the beach, the reason for this is because for me the beach
represents:
 Happy times
 Day out
 Company from friends and family
Mise-en-scene
 Props
 There are multiple props used within the video
 One of these props is a football, I used this with Penny and Pippa as people commonly have fun when
they’re playing football which fits in with the narrative
 Another prop I used was food for Pippa, the reason for this is because it links in with the lyrics of the
song making it relevant to the theme
 Costume
 For the costume there was no real set costume needed for the video, instead I asked the actors to dress
casual to make the video seem realistic so the audience is able to relate to the narrative
Camera Shots
 For my music video I used a wide variety of shots
 Cut In
 For the start of my video I used two cut in shots on Pippa and Penny, I used this to slowly introduce the
characters while making the audience think about who they are
 Medium Close Up
 I used a wide variety of medium close ups in my video at different stages within the video, one of the main
reasons I used this shot was so the audience could see it was Jack performing the song but so that it wasn’t too
far away that they couldn’t see him lip syncing, this is commonly used in lots of music videos to show the upper
half of the artist performing
 Extreme Close Up
 I used a extreme close up for one section of my video showing Pippas mouth, this is used in music videos to
normally show facial features of an artist or parts of their body to show their emotions
 Wide Shot
 As some of my scenes were shot in a large space I had to use a wide shot to show the audience everything that
was going on, one shot I used this in was when Penny and Pippa were playing with the football as Pippa they
were moving on a large field.
Editing
 For my video I edited the video with Adobe Premier Pro, this software gave me more options to
edit the video then less advanced software
 In the editing I had to make sure that the lip syncing matched the exact timing of the song to
make it look effective
 I also had to reorder shots in the software and place them into a order that fits the narrative, and
matches shots with the lyrics, without this the story would have been out of place and made less
sense to the audience
Sound
 For my music video I decided to go against using diegetic music, I only used the song for sound
and removed all audio clips from movies as It didn’t work with the song.
