Bauer Media Group owns a very wide range of magazines, catering to men, women and
teenagers, so their target audience is very large too. They cover a broad range of interests
3. and appeal such as fashion, music, lifestyle, celebrities, etc. This sort of appeal would be
targeted mainly at teenagers and women. Men wouldn’t be as interested in this sort of stuff
as it portrays many of these interests and appeals through magazines such as Heat and
Closer. These two magazines include stuff like celebrity stories, fashion and lifestyle, and so
men wouldn’t be as interested in these magazines as women would be.
However Bauer Media Group also produces magazines specifically for men such as FHM,
which mainly includes men’s lifestyle, and so men would take more of an interest in these
sorts of magazines, rather than women lifestyle. They also produce magazines such as
Match! Which is a football magazine, and so this would appeal more to men and young
teenage boys because it sometimes gives away free Match Attax, which is a card collecting
game for teenage boys, and so they’d take more of a favouring to this, rather than
magazines about women’s lifestyle.
Media cross-ownership is the ownership of multiple media businesses by a person or
corporation. An example of this would be broadcast and cable television, film, radio,
newspaper, magazine, book publishing, music, video games and other various online
entries. Another example would be Bauer produces Heat magazine, News Corporation
produces The Sun and New Line Cinema produced Lord of the Rings.
The Bauer Media Group is one of Europe‘s leading media companies. The Bauer family has
managed the publishing company since its inception 138 years ago. This continuity in the
corporate management is a unique feature of the family-run company and a contributing
factor in its stable growth and success.
Around 11,000 employees at 16 different countries worldwide entertain and inform millions
of people every day. In 2011 the Bauer Media Group generated EUR 2 billion in sales.
Bauer Media Group has a 50% stake in the British television company Box Television, the
other half owned by Channel 4. Box Television acts as the content subsidiary that produces
