Social Media Defense Essay
Social Media & Digital Defense Social media; a brief history Computer networking was envisioned in the 60's as a military–centric command and
control scheme. In the 70s and 80s as the amount of computers that were being used increased came the idea that connected computers would make a
great forum for discussing topics, meeting new people and renewing acquaintances. During the late 70s to mid–90's companies and hobbyists were
building sites that allowed people to share information using a system called Bulletin Board System (BBS) which allowed people to communicate,
download files, and games. Although there were many companies offering different features to people such as forums, emails and the ability to
download files. Most people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three sites along with Classmates are still running today. In 2002, when social networking began to take off. Friendster was leading the
way, they boasted that to truly have a rich online community you need true common bonds and offered many ways for people to discover those
bonds. In 2003 LinkedIn was introduced although it is not considered by some to the first social networking site, it was the first to take social
networking seriously and brought with it a sober approach to social networking. By choosing to connect professionals with each other it has grown
to over 297 million users, who do not use it to connect with former classmates or others looking to date. The emergence of Facebook as the global
leader of social media. Facebook is considered to be the true global leader of social networking. In 2004 it launched as a universal website to connect
the students of Harvard and remained campus–oriented for two years. Facebook eventually expanded to all Ivy League and Boston–area schools
continuing onto most universities in Canada and the United States. From September 2005 to December 2005 it expanded to allow universities in the
U.K., Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. As well as making a high school invitation only version and expanding member ship

The Current Rate Of Adoption
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY
An oft–heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: "We must meet students where they are." This phrase refers to
an obligation to meet students' needs by matching instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation
and change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook and spend much of their time in its virtual
spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their
students' needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been rapid. The study proposed here focuses
specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in higher education.
Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular, particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber,
2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students
have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college students using this technology has compelled
many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits for the use of Facebook to support education.
According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to "engage students academically and build relationships with faculty" (p.
5). As retention has become a focal point for many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more
effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First–Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has
visited many campuses, proposing to student–affairs professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness

Who Is Your Geocities: Helpful Or Harmful?
As a teenager associated with the "technological revolution", it has only been fate to be consumed by the constant social media that surrounds our
society. With a phone always in hand, and a new app ready to be downloaded, the people of the current generation are being mind–blocked by the
tweets and posts of their numerous friends. As I walk down the hallway of my high school, I see the tops of my classmates heads. Resembling a
kangaroo, they are hunched over, arms bent with an iPhone glued to their faces, eager to catch up on whatever tweets they haven't seen. Eager to see
what "selfie" their favorite celebrity has posted on Instagram. The constant mentality of, " Oh that would be a good tweet", or " Lets post theses

In 1994, Geocities allowed people to create their own websites, it then later allowed people to interact with people they were similar with,
eventually being labeled the first social media site. (Arandilla). The first influential social site was Friendster, which eventually led to Myspace.
Myspace allowed people to follow each other, and share music and videos. The popularity of Myspace, led to beginning advertising from big
corporations. Soon Myspace's biggest competitor was born, Facebook. With one billion users across the globe, Facebook grew to the biggest
networking source. Shortly after, Twitter was established, and became a huge site for teenagers. Twitter allows a person to follow celebrity's, their
friends, or role models , as well as the rapid increase of marketing . (Barry) The social media craze, grew faster than anyone could have imagined.
Now more accessible than ever, with smartphones and ipads, social media is right at our fingertips. These networking sites have had a huge impact on
every aspects of life, and transformed media. Yet, has it transformed society for the better? The label, "Social Media", is due to its ability to encourage
people to be more social and communicative through the internet. Yet, it is now known that the name might not live up to its expectation. With less
face–to–face interaction, relationships and communication skills are being sacrificed. Although one may have one thousand

Personal Reflection : The Importance Of Enrolling In College
Entering this course, I was nervous for a couple of reasons. First, I was returning to LSU after eighteen months of time off and thought I was
ill–prepared for the intellectual intensity of an honors course. Second, I was entering into a realm of academia that has always highly intrigued me, but
that I never felt educated enough on to participate in. Although I still feel like I have a lot of material to catch up on, the respect, vulnerability, and
genuine open–mindedness my classmates have displayed over the past few weeks has quickly diminished any fears I had regarding this course.
Contrary to my original thought, this course has, up to this point, been the best way for me to reacclimate to collegiate life. The curriculum for this
course is designed to put an emphasis on listening, analyzing experiences, and responding constructively. The elements of peer review and analytical
reasoning that are built into the class are exactly what I needed coming back to LSU. Albeit I was worried about my ability to write on the level this
course requires; however, the constructive manner in which we have critiqued our classmates has presented me with the ability to connect once more
(after eighteen months) with my unique style, structure, and logic. Initially, I was very nervous about enrolling in this course, but now realize that it
was one of the best decisions I could have made this semester.
So far, my classmates have affirmed the things I knew to be strong about my writing and

Facebook Has Changed The Way People Communicate With Each...
Facebook, a social networking website, has changed the way people communicate with each other. A social networking website is an online platform
that allows users to create a public profile and interact with other users on the website. Facebook has even changed our most personal and private
conversations and how they are conducted around the world. Since the internet's birth in 1983, this trend of online communication has been growing.
Created in 2004, now registered with more than one billion participants, Facebook's user numbers surpass even the top four social networking
websites combined. According to Wikipedia statistics, Instagram has 300 million registered users, LinkedIn has 200 million users, Classmates.com has
50 million users, and Flickr has 32 million registered users. To be further convinced of the claim that Facebook indeed changes the way we
communicate, you would only need to create your own Facebook account and start participating in their social networking experience. Technology and
internet usage is fused into every aspect of our society including the style of communication. The launch of Facebook in 2006 also enabled other
devices such as touch phones, interactive tablets, and even advanced cars with their own networking capabilities starting in 2007. Facebook is a
multibillion–dollar company and is highly recognized for connecting more people than other networks. Facebook's long–term success can be attributed

So processes and practices that firms utilize in order to manage knowledge are really important for attaining strategic objectives by harnessing
complexity and making the best use of existing resources and capabilities (Zack, 1999a; Zollo and Winter, 2002). It could be forecasted that empirical
study of social network would occupy an important position in the field of management and the guiding role of the research would become more
obvious.( Yonghai, Y,2010)
Several years ago, one of the major challenges in knowledge management is to explore creative ways to convert the tacit knowledge base in
organisations into explicit knowledge (Nonaka, 1994). But with the development of social network and social media, this challenge seems already
had a good solution. Now more and more researchers have already realized the importance of social networks and social Medias to the KM.
Knowledge management
Recently, knowledge management (KM) has already been recognized as a key instrument to improve effectiveness and performance in the
organization (Zack et al., 2009). The OECD has recognised that knowledge and technology have become drivers of productivity and economic growth
in modern economies in 1996.

Social Networking is the use of websites such as Facebook, MySpace,Twitter,LinkedIn, and classmates.com to communicate with other users
(Hampton). On social media like these, users are able to develop biographical profiles as well as communicating, researching, and also sharing photos,
links, videos, music, and more. Advocates of social networking sites conclude that online communities promote increased interaction with friends and

Some say people who use social networking sites are prone to social isolation. Despite opposition, I am convinced that social networking helps people
who are shy and socially isolated to connect with other people. This concludes that social networking can help people who have low self esteem other
than lowering their self–esteem any more.Although many argue that social networking can exacerbate feelings of disconnect and put children at higher
risk for depression, low self–esteem and eating disorders,I believe otherwise. According to my research, I have found that more than 25% of teens
report that social makes them feel less shy, 28% feel more outgoing, 20% report feeling more confident,in which 53% of teens were identified as being
shy (5 Boroughs). This means that social networking brings out a better person in most, and makes them feel better about themselves other than feeling
bad inside. In conclusion, social networking has decisively proven to be good for our society. It is essential to recognize that social networking can
benefit our society tremendously by helping students do better in school, spreading information/news, and helping those that are socially isolated to get
out of their shell and connect with other people. The facts

Marketing to Baby Boomers Essays
Consisting of 77.2 million people, baby boomers – people born between 1946 and 1964 – represent a prized, yet often misunderstood, demographic for
online marketers. In fact, they represent the largest group within the U.S. Internet population at 56.7 million users, a full 29.4 percent of all Internet
users. So why is there such confusion about how to effectively market to them? A recent report from the online market research firm eMarketer,
Boomers Online: Attitude Is Everything, addresses this issue.
The first hurdle for online marketers targeting boomers is the disparity in age that can exist within the group. This has led many marketers to divide the
group into two distinct segments: older boomers (those born between 1946 and 1954) and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals 65 and older still make up less than 10 percent of the active Internet universe. However, their numbers are on the rise. In the last five
years, the number of seniors actively using the Internet has increased by more than 55 percent, from 11.3 million active users in November 2004 to
17.5 million in November 2009. Among people 65+, the growth of women online in the last five years has outpaced the growth of men by 6
percentage points.
The largest percentage increase in Internet use since 2005 has been in the 70–to–75 age group, according to the Pew Internet and American Life
Project. The survey found that 45 percent of that age bracket is online, compared with 26 percent in 2005. Researching health information is the third
most popular online activity with the most senior age group, after email and online search.
What's more, many seniors find social networking exciting and enjoy finding online community. They're creating their own blogs and, more often,
connecting with family and friends by joining Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
"Social media are giving seniors a voice, and for a generation that has sometimes felt isolated and overlooked, that's no small feat," said Sarah Hoit,
chief executive of My Way Village, which designs online social networks for older adults.

What Are The Harmful Effects Of Social Networking Sites?
Being connected with the world has never been more easy and accessible than it is today through social networking. According to the Merriam Webster
Dictionary, the phrase "social media" refers to "forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities in order to share
information, ideas, and other content" (687). Information is readily available at one's fingertips at any given moment. Social networking has evolved
into one of the most common forms of communication since the launching of some of the earliest social networking sites, including Classmates.com,

With the seemingly endless amounts of benefits that are associated with using social networking sites, there are several risk factors and
consequences involved, some of which can even be fatal. Throughout this essay the harmful effects of social networking including addiction, social
comparison, online predators, and cyberbullying, as well as their damaging mental effects, will be examined. One particular risk of social
networking sites is addiction. While it may be more of a rare occurrence, it is definitely a serious risk. There is a clichГ© phrase that states, "You
cannot have too much of a good thing". However, in regards to social networking sites, when they are not used in moderation they can have damaging,
and sometimes lifelong effects on their users. Addiction to social media can stem from something as simple as how much time a user spends on social
networking sites each day. A survey conducted on American social networking users in 2016 found that nearly twenty
–two million users spent three to
four hours a day on social networking sites (Nielsen Scarborough). This accounts for nearly nine percent of the total population of social networking
users ages eighteen and older. It is especially difficult to recognize the signs of addiction because for some users hours spent on social networking sites
can feel like minutes. Excessive amounts of time spent using social networking sites can have severe impacts internally

Character Analysis Of Shouto Todoroki My Hero
The character I've chosen is Shouto Todoroki My Hero Academia, which is written by Horikoshi Kouhei. He's also one of the main protagonists of
the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people's emotions, and even
though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He's mainly portrayed as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can
get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he's not one to easily let go of hisanger or hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5'9", as
officially stated in his character profile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split
evenly into different colors, the left half being red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he was
younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a not–so–subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left
half, and freeze with his right. However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his grudge towards his father.
He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the hospital, and Todoroki's cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. In My
Hero Academia, a week before final exams, their teacher reminds them to study for the exams, and some of his classmates admit that

behind our keyboards, and building list of virtual friends rather than getting out there in the real world"?(Nickson1). We have become mesmerized by

Speech On Self Evaluation
Speech to Explain: Self Evaluation
For this speech I choose to have my topic be something I have a strong personal connection to which was Rave culture, its history and practices.
Choosing this to be my topic of choice I was able to be motivated in researching it and I believe my genuine interest in the topic showed in my
presentation. In this self–eval I will be discussing the structure and style along with what I am taking away from this speech.
First, I will be talking about the structure of my speech. When doing a speech to explain, like any other speech it's important to have a clear and
organized pattern. Essentially when creating my outline for the speech I had made sure to have a clear and engaging intro and hook, meant to clearly
state my theme and then jump into the topic. Unfortunately when presenting the speech I was unable to present my introduction as I would have liked
and forgot to even mention my theme. I was not very effective in my introduction but knowing so at my conclusion I was sure to clearly state my
theme. However,I believe my concluding sentence could have been more clear. To improve I should in the future reinstate my topics and go over key
points and leave the audience with psychological closure rather than abruptly saying "that was all, thank you".
I felt that it would have been beneficial for me to use more visual aids in presenting my topic. Rather than just talking about my topic and the music, I
feel that if I showed some actual footage

The Effects Of Social Media On Society

The Effects of Social Media Social media is apart of the everyday life of people today. While it has helped us to open our connections, it has
crippled us as well. We must be aware of the potential health, social, mental and educational problems that social media has the potential to cause
and be willing to step away from these websites in order to understand what is happening and to prevent it by separating ourselves from it, when it
is necessary. According to "The History of Social Media" by the Digital Trends Staff from DigitalTrends.com, the Bulletin Board System surfaced in
the 80's and remained popular through the 90's. A place where people could find others of like interests without fear of social stigma appears, "and
voila, just like that, suddenly the antisocial had become social." From there, many social networking websites appeared such as Classmates.com, where
high school graduates can meet back up virtually. Many other social media websites surfaced, such as MySpace and Facebook, where people not only
met up with people from the past and with similar interests but also those that live in the same home or that work together. The rise of social media
has steadily increased, to the point that we post our every movement in less than 140 characters in the form of a tweet. With such rapid growth it is not
a surprise that with the benefits, consequences will follow. "Regardless of whether you

Positive And Negative Effects Of Social Media
Social media is a very popular and widely used medium of entertainment in today's society that allows people to connect and congregate from all
over the world without having to leave the comfort of home. In order for many people to relieve social isolation and loneliness, social media
unravels new pathways of communication and can be used to help people open up and express their opinions (Naruse). It can give people the
chance to share and express their ideas to a large audience and receive feedback. Large and small businesses alike use this platform of
communication in order to relay information about their products and services faster by using promotions and advertisements on social media
websites. While social media has proven itself to be helpful and beneficial in today's society, there are many studies that show how it can take
quite a toll on the mental health and wellbeing of the people who constantly use it. Many people of all ages and from all over the world use social
media on a daily basis. While many people of different ages use it, social media seems to influence the lifestyle of younger users, such as teenagers.
Younger users of social media are usually more impressionable and more likely to be affected and influenced by online trends and standards, and
because these users spend much more time on social media, they are more susceptible to create a habit of constantly checking their phones and
becoming addicted. As people spend more time on the Internet and

Why Social Networks Have Done More Harm Than Good in Our...
The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th century. Today, technology is used for almost
everything in our day to day lives. But the most common usage of technology is for communication and industrialization. However, every good thing
has its disadvantage if it is over used, and since technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and older people but more predominant
among the youth of the today. Even more, technology has brought about social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com,

family, and long distance friends, proponents of social networking sites may argue that it helps students to do better at school, and that 59% of
students with access to the internet report that they use social networking sites to discuss educational topics and 50% use these sites talk about school

Definition The term "social networking" does not exclusively belong to digital technology on the Web. On the contrary, social networks had been
studied from the beginning of 20th century with the aim to comprehend how the members of a certain community interact and which mechanism can
determine the interaction itself. Today social networking commonly refers to all those activities that are carried out within specific online services that
provides free space and software tools which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

relevant element in our digital lives, giving to all users the opportunity to keep in contact with a large number of different communities by subscribing
to specific services that offers specialized platforms for video, blog, photos, etc. Applications for ITDE Social networking represents a big resource for
e–learning, because of its big impact on the World Wide Web. In fact, the social networking online services implemented a new model ofknowledge
management, totally based upon the worldwide voluntary contribution of users. But to what extent is social networking powerful for distance
education? It is very interesting to point out that the average age of social networking users is strongly and quickly decreasing; the new generations
seem to be extremely familiar with this kind of approach to the Web. According to a January 2007 survey by the Pew Internet &

American Life Project, 55 percent of teens (ages 12 to 17) report having created a personal profile online, and an equal number regularly use social

Working On A Group Is Not An Easy Thing Working
When working on a group you have to be a listener and a leader at the same time, you have to make sure you help your group. Being in a group is
not an easy thing working with people can be challenging specially when they work at a different rhythm or even a different way, I've had different
experiences working in groups but personally I can agree that this group was a perfect fit for me, at the beginning it was very difficult due to the fact
that several of our classmates withdraw the class and did not inform us before they did, this made us change our approach but at the end we ended
up working it out and making it work. The work we did as a group was easy we decided to meet at the speech lab and brainstorm the best way of
presenting our subject; we decided on assign each of the group members their task and what was going to be the role they would be playing in the
group, the order they would present and with was the subject they were going to elaborate in. I was in charge of explaining what is a nonverbal
message and how important it is, so I made sure of researching everything I could not only by reading the chapter, but also by doing some outside
research witch gave me a lot of information and understanding of this subject.
After we all had the area we would concentrate in we decided to meet up again and practice what we had so far and star with the power point and
decide on another visual aid, we decided on doing a clip on the series lie to me but at the end we could

Descriptive Essay About Friends
"What are friends for?" that phrase keep repeating as my classmates utter these words. I hear it almost every time, am I happy about it? It just
seems like I am 'forced' to do what my classmates pleased. "What if you do not want to?" that other thought keep repeating as well but sadly no
words can express them. In the end, I pick up the load and do the work. Yes, I am held and tied to the wall. What should I do about this? Are they my
friends – real friends?
Scenario
New school. A classmate of the same age walks up to you and says "Hi! You must be new here. Do not be worried, you will have a great day!" Joy
fills your heart. "It will be a great day" you may say. As months go by, you noticed that that friend of yours acts mischievous and odd as if there is
something up with that kid. Suddenly, those classmates of yours try getting things to please and satisfy them. They pick on you as if you were so toy
that they can throw. Playing with your emotions, as if you feel emotionless. Laugh at you, you are just not smart like them. Youwant to cry out what
your heart desires. As you were about to speak, you suddenly just dust off the idea because no one will hear you. No one would want to listen to your
opinion. You can no longer forbear the pain.
You helped your friend with all that he or she needs and when you ask for help, they do not even look at you in the eye. In turn, your supposed friends
get all the popularity, fame and adoration from others. You never know, they

The Dangers of Social Media These days social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have become an essential part of our daily lives
in America. It is through media sources such as these that have enabled communication among people on a global scale along with uniting people with
similar interests and ideas together in a positive manner. According to statistics from thePew Research Center, around seven in ten Americans use
some type of social media (Pew Research). The development of mobile devices has played a significant role in the widespread development of social

When technological advancement began so did the growth of social networking. Social networking became easier with the innovation of
smartphones, by making social media more accessible than its initial phases. However, in social networking's earliest stages social media sites were
created with the purpose of helping people stay linked together despite the distance separating each other. During that time, the only means of using
these networking sites were by having access to a computer. Without the easy accessibility to computers, people back then could carry on with
everyday life tasks without social networking distracting us from the life around us. Despite social media not fully taking off until the booming of
mobile devices, the earliest known form of social media is believed to have been created in 1995 by way of Classmates.com. Eventually being followed
by networks such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (Social Media). Unfortunately networking quickly changed in the 2010s when
smartphones became more common and social media sites began to release their products as mobile applications or apps (Social Media). In this day
and age in which some school–age children are gifted mobile devices almost everyone can get their hands on social media. It has become so easy to
stay communicated by means of these social media apps that we are starting to forget how to interact among each other. We are moving away from

Social Media And Its Impact On Society
In today's society, social networking has become such a significant part within our daily lives. Social media allows access to friend of the present and
past, along with the ability to connect with strangers, and the ability to research topics, share music, share videos, share pictures, share links and much
more. Since the rise of social networking, information is spread much quicker through the use of the Internet in comparison to any other source used by
individuals. According to ProCon.org, "Forty–seven percent of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook,MySpace, Twitter,
LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from twenty–six percent in 2008." It is also reported that, "Social networking sites spread information ...

A possible solution to this worldwide dilemma would be limiting the hours people spend on social media from early on before they get "addicted"
so to speak to being online at all times. Social media is used as a way to interact with others through technology. Social media or social interactions
have been around much earlier than MySpace or Facebook came out. The earliest form of social media so to speak was the telegraph in 1792
(Edosomwan et.al). Around the 1800's the radio and telephone became the new way of social interactions. Email was introduced to some people
around the 1960's but Internet was introduced to the public around the 1990's (Edosomwan et.al). Social networking sites started popping up around
the 2000's and the most popular sites now started around 2003 and 2004. For example, MySpace and LinkedIn launched in 2003, and Facebook
launched in 2004 (Edosomwan et.al). Many aspects cause negativity in social media. One main aspect of using social media constantly is because
people are lonely. A German study showed that there is a correlation between the time spent on Facebook or other social media networks and how
lonely a person is (Potarazu). In this particular study, it focused on college students. The study concluded that the more time a person spends on
Facebook or any other social media network, the worse they feel about themselves or their own lives. "Some may argue that Facebook is efficient in

Information And Communication Technologies ( Ict )
There is hardly a person, today who is not touched by computers and computing. But, if you think about it, you would probably say just the
opposite only a generation ago! The rise of the computer is one of the big achievements of the age, and no matter what one's feelings are on
technology nobody can deny that it touches our lives in many ways every day. Just how do computers serve as information and communication
technologies (ICT's)? The advances in the levels of interactivity of ICT's have been the topics of much debate, with scholars and the public as
sharply divided on the risks and benefits offered by ICT's as they are about the emerging technologies make them possible. But, just as in the case of
technology in general, ICT's are very popular, getting only more popular and appear to be here to stay. This paper will take a brief look at two
market–leading ICT's, Facebook and Twitter, to see what types of information are generated by these ICT's. The commercial and business uses of
these ICT's will be discussed as well as some matters concerning privacy in the areas of surveillance, information control and security. Emergence of

Effects Of Social Media On Mental Health
Effects of social media on mental health Overview Social media is described, by the Merriam–Webster dictionary (2015), as "forms of electronic
communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas,
personal messages, and other content (as videos)". As few as 10 years ago the term social media was yet to be coined, but within that decade the use
of these blogs, websites and sharing platforms has increased exponentially with no plateau in sight. From creating Instagram accounts for household
pets, to sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over Pinterest, people today have access to social media outlets for almost everything. Today about
74% of people ages 18–65 use some form of a social networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes the lead in social media usage with about 71% of
those adults. LinkedIn and Pinterest are tied for second at 28% of users, 26% use Instagram, and Twitter falls last in the top 5 most used social
medias with 23% of users (Pew, 2014). In September of 2013 the Pew Research Center measured that 90% of adults ages 18–29 used these social
media outlets on a daily basis, which is an astonishing increase from the 9% that was measured in February 2005 (Pew, 2014). Due to the fact that
young adults are increasingly involving themselves in these online platforms, it is very important to understand the long term and psychological effects

The Positive Of Using The Internet
The positive of using the Internet
Introduction:
Today, the internet is going to be a larger part of our lives .There are many people who like to use the internet every day .There isn't a specific age to
use the internet, users range started from children to older people. Using the internet is going to be important in the future. Using the internet can be
understood pretty well because it is very convenient. Users just push the Start button and search for the necessary information in Google rather than
spend a long time searching for a certain information in the library. It has become very convenient for every single person to post his/ her inquiry
about anything in the social media, a lot of people with expertise will answer this inquiry. So, if to think deeply, these days most of the people has an
access to the internet. They can use it in everywhere. For example, the public libraries, schools, and coffee shops. The internet has invaded our daily
life. People know can use the internet in their phones to get updated 24/7. That means know we are facing a new type of addiction which is the

Social media Improvements have been made in technology causing the number of users on social media to rise every day. The use of social media

Research has shown that clubs, groups, and news are being created and sent out from students to other students. The surge of the internet definitely

Social Media's Impact on Society Essay
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, what do they mutually have in common? They are all social media websites. Social Media has
become the number one way to communicate with other people from around the world. It has been beneficial and helpful to many, on the contrary
harmful to some. People use social networks to catch up with a childhood friend, endorse their business, or develop news faster. Other people use it to
steal identities, cyberbully, and abuse others. It has stated that social media's are "websites and other online means of communication that are used by

Everyone realized that MySpace was being too cluttered with spam and negated by the owners, users switched over to Facebook. Facebook
allowed several new features that MySpace did not, for example: games like FarmVille, "poking" and more. As a result of social media, people
have become more connected with each other, but consequently less connected with the real world. If people are less connected with the real
world, then what is so beneficial about social media? Overall, social media can be an enjoyable and valuable tool, which allows you to catch up
with a childhood friend, endorse their business, and acquire news faster. When you become an adult and graduate from high school or college,
people like to reminisce about the glory days. Thanks to social networks like Facebook and Classmates.com, you can connect with your childhood
friends and see what they are up to now. If you are planning your high school reunion, social network websites like Facebook, you can plan and invite
people from Facebook to come instead of collecting new contact information. In addition, companies who use a social network can promote their
business and attract more consumers to sell the product. Big business like Wal–Mart and Target can use the social networks to tell consumers what is
on sale that week and offer coupons to help save money. Business can also use the social networks, like Facebook who offer companies to promote

Development of Social Networks and Their Impact on Society
The contribution of Informatics to the development of social networks and their impact on society. With the progression of technologies that are able to

other cultures, meet people all over the world, maintain and strengthen familial relationships, communicate effectively with others, and help people to

However, a false sense of security may leave social networking site users vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, leaking sensitive information,
and sending viruses. People trust messages sent through social networking sites and consider them more legitimate than emails. However, social
networks do not scan messages for viruses or phishing scams; while most email accounts do scan the messages for spam and viruses through antivirus
software. The public nature of online profiles creates security risks about which most users are unaware. Cybercriminals can gather information to be
used for identity theft from social networking profiles, such as birthdays, pet names, mothers ' maiden names, names of children, and other details
often used in passwords and security questions. Offline crime may result from posting personal information, like home robberies committed after a
person announces vacation plans and alerts criminals when the home will be left unattended. In the final analysis, I would tell, it is apparent that
technology has the potential to harm or enhance your social skills and social life. The key is to analyze how technology affects you socially. The
society should pose questions for itself, as to how technologies help us build positive, meaningful relationships, or do technologies hinder this process?

Considering its popularity among students, Facebook high school version was launched in September, 2005. Its members are multiplying greatly
with each day passing i.e. Facebook had 100million users on Aug. 26, 2008 while this number increased to 500million on Jul. 21, 2010 and growth
rate was 153% during the last year (blog.Facebook.com). Social networking sites brought many positive implications to human life. The idea of
social globe or global village has been translated into reality through these sites connecting millions of people from all around the world.
Simultaneous communication of many people even at distant places promotes the creation of social capital fetching personal, professional and social
benefits not only to the users of these sites but to the society as a whole. But every technological revolution brings some dilemmas and darker issues
along as well. Likewise, these increasing links and networks online are setting back the real values of life especially students are accepting some

The Pros and Cons of Three Types of Online Communities-...
An online community is a network of people who come together and communicate online, usually because of a common interest or goal. There are
many different types of online communities. Some examples of online communities are: email distribution lists, message boards and newsgroups,
instant message (IM) services, chat rooms, blogging sites, social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, and online classrooms/school
groups. I intend to discuss three of these types of online communities – chat rooms, social network sites, and online classrooms/school groups – and
look into the pros and cons of using each of these. First, I will talk about internet chat rooms. Achat room is a site where users can talk live to other

There is no face to face with online chat rooms. Chat rooms enable people to act or say things in ways that they may not normally if they were face
to face. This could also be a pro or a con, depending on the situation. One last con of chat rooms would be that, although you can talk to other
people almost as if you were face to face instead of waiting for a response as you would have to with an email, you still have to wait for the other
person to be online. If you want to chat with someone and they are not online, the chat room isn't going to do you much good. Sometimes people
will prearrange times to get online and chat with another person. This is one way to overcome this con. Next, I will discuss social networking
sites. Some examples of social networking sites would be MySpace, Facebook, Classmates.com, and Twitter. Social networking can be a wonderful
and fun way to keep in touch and communicate with your family, friends, and colleagues. They can save you time and effort. If you need to get in
touch with someone, and you are both members of the same social networking site, you can quickly and easily send him/her a message on the site.
Instead of having to make arrangements and plans to meet at a certain place, at a certain time, you can discuss things on the site. Social networking

Reflection Class Reflection
This second reflection period has been different from the first in that the defacto divides among those in the class have been realigned. Furthermore,
this reflection period has enabled many factors of my classmate's identities to become apparent. While I believe the topics were less controversial
during this period, I believe that the selected readings and a greater degree of variation in my classmate's opinions made this period much more
disputed. Additionally, the topics reviewed have ushered to the forefront several students who until now had remained in the background. I count
myself among the students who became more comfortable and assured during this reflection period. By now, I am pretty confident that I have gotten to
know my classmates well enough to relatively understand the components of their identities that impact their perspectives. In the same manner, I
believe that I have been able to participate in these topics more frequently and have thus presented more of my own identity to my classmates. This
change in classroom dynamics and the relevance of the readings to my own identity has thus impacted my ability to be more substantive – a key goal I
had for this second reflection period. While my classmates have still occasionally questioned the relevance of my responses to the readings, I am
confident that my participation has greatly increased during this period.

Target Behavior: Jack Winslow is an 8 year old boy in a 1st grade at–risk class. He enjoys his daily classroom jobs and his classmates. Jack has lots of
energy and is the smallest in his class. He tries to engage with his peers but it is usually awkward and unsuccessful. The targeted student is functioning
well academically. There are no deficits in reading and comprehension. He solves math word problems slowly but works well with computation and
number facts. Jack is currently being evaluated because he constantly blurts out in class when he has something to say. Ms. Gray, his teacher,
complains that he constantly blurts out instead of raising his hand. She has also mentioned that he calls her name constantly when she does not answer
immediately. The inappropriate behavior of blurting must be changed because these types of interruptions usually get other students off track and
prevent others from engaging fully in class activities. It is important that the antecedents and consequences that trigger Jacks behavior are addressed.
If this inappropriate behavior that Jack display is not changed, other students will begin to follow his lead and start to blurt out also. Changing the
inappropriate behavior of blurting out, should include strategies that are positive reinforcements to increase the desirable responses from Jack. Jack
should be able to wait for the teacher's response and ask question when called on. Once this behavior is extinct, Jack should be able to self–

Negative Effects Of Social Media Essay
I think social media does not have a positive impact on the world. Social media can open the world up to cyberbullies, "cat– fishers", hackers, and
employment opportunities. Social media has a negative effect on the world in various ways. Cyberbullying is referred to as the use of electronic
communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature. Being "cat– fished" is known as luring
someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona. With all of these horrible outcomes to social media, is it really worth it? Social
networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etcetera allows you to find and connect with just about anyone, from a coworker in a
neighboring workplace to the girl you met in high school thirty years ago. Browsing these sites can make you feel connected to a larger community,
but such easy, casual connection in an electronic environment can also have its downside. Before social media, you had real relationships. Real
family and friends involve presence in your life. Even talking on the phone creates more connective tissue than the impersonal undertones of social
media. Before scrolling down a page endlessly you read books, made DIY projects, wondered what your old high school and college friends were up
to and did other constructive stuff. Because the Internet allows large groups of people separated by long distances to communicate instantaneously
with each other, it has become a place where

Social Media Defense Essay

  • 1. Social Media Defense Essay Social Media & Digital Defense Social media; a brief history Computer networking was envisioned in the 60's as a military–centric command and control scheme. In the 70s and 80s as the amount of computers that were being used increased came the idea that connected computers would make a great forum for discussing topics, meeting new people and renewing acquaintances. During the late 70s to mid–90's companies and hobbyists were building sites that allowed people to share information using a system called Bulletin Board System (BBS) which allowed people to communicate, download files, and games. Although there were many companies offering different features to people such as forums, emails and the ability to download files. Most people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friendster was leading the way, they boasted that to truly have a rich online community you need true common bonds and offered many ways for people to discover those bonds. In 2003 LinkedIn was introduced although it is not considered by some to the first social networking site, it was the first to take social networking seriously and brought with it a sober approach to social networking. By choosing to connect professionals with each other it has grown to over 297 million users, who do not use it to connect with former classmates or others looking to date. The emergence of Facebook as the global leader of social media. Facebook is considered to be the true global leader of social networking. In 2004 it launched as a universal website to connect the students of Harvard and remained campus–oriented for two years. Facebook eventually expanded to all Ivy League and Boston–area schools continuing onto most universities in Canada and the United States. From September 2005 to December 2005 it expanded to allow universities in the U.K., Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. As well as making a high school invitation only version and expanding member ship to companies such as Apple Inc. and Microsoft. • 2. The Current Rate Of Adoption CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY An oft–heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: "We must meet students where they are." This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students' needs by matching instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their students' needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in higher education. Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular, particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits for the use of Facebook to support education. According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to "engage students academically and build relationships with faculty" (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First–Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student–affairs professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness ... • 3. Who Is Your Geocities: Helpful Or Harmful? As a teenager associated with the "technological revolution", it has only been fate to be consumed by the constant social media that surrounds our society. With a phone always in hand, and a new app ready to be downloaded, the people of the current generation are being mind–blocked by the tweets and posts of their numerous friends. As I walk down the hallway of my high school, I see the tops of my classmates heads. Resembling a kangaroo, they are hunched over, arms bent with an iPhone glued to their faces, eager to catch up on whatever tweets they haven't seen. Eager to see what "selfie" their favorite celebrity has posted on Instagram. The constant mentality of, " Oh that would be a good tweet", or " Lets post theses pictures on... The popularity of Myspace, led to beginning advertising from big corporations. Soon Myspace's biggest competitor was born, Facebook. With one billion users across the globe, Facebook grew to the biggest networking source. Shortly after, Twitter was established, and became a huge site for teenagers. Twitter allows a person to follow celebrity's, their friends, or role models , as well as the rapid increase of marketing . • 4. Personal Reflection : The Importance Of Enrolling In College Entering this course, I was nervous for a couple of reasons. First, I was returning to LSU after eighteen months of time off and thought I was ill–prepared for the intellectual intensity of an honors course. Second, I was entering into a realm of academia that has always highly intrigued me, but that I never felt educated enough on to participate in. Although I still feel like I have a lot of material to catch up on, the respect, vulnerability, and genuine open–mindedness my classmates have displayed over the past few weeks has quickly diminished any fears I had regarding this course. Contrary to my original thought, this course has, up to this point, been the best way for me to reacclimate to collegiate life. The curriculum for this course is designed to put an emphasis on listening, analyzing experiences, and responding constructively. The elements of peer review and analytical reasoning that are built into the class are exactly what I needed coming back to LSU. Albeit I was worried about my ability to write on the level this course requires; however, the constructive manner in which we have critiqued our classmates has presented me with the ability to connect once more (after eighteen months) with my unique style, structure, and logic. Initially, I was very nervous about enrolling in this course, but now realize that it was one of the best decisions I could have made this semester. He's also one of the main protagonists of the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people's emotions, and even though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He's mainly portrayed as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he's not one to easily let go of hisanger or hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5'9", as officially stated in his character profile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split evenly into different colors, the left half being red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he was younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a not–so–subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left half, and freeze with his right. However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his grudge towards his father. He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the hospital, and Todoroki's cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. Choosing this to be my topic of choice I was able to be motivated in researching it and I believe my genuine interest in the topic showed in my presentation. In this self–eval I will be discussing the structure and style along with what I am taking away from this speech. First, I will be talking about the structure of my speech. When doing a speech to explain, like any other speech it's important to have a clear and organized pattern. Essentially when creating my outline for the speech I had made sure to have a clear and engaging intro and hook, meant to clearly state my theme and then jump into the topic. Unfortunately when presenting the speech I was unable to present my introduction as I would have liked and forgot to even mention my theme. I was not very effective in my introduction but knowing so at my conclusion I was sure to clearly state my theme. However,I believe my concluding sentence could have been more clear. To improve I should in the future reinstate my topics and go over key points and leave the audience with psychological closure rather than abruptly saying "that was all, thank you". The Effects Of Social Media On Society Amber Melvin Professor Lincoln Schreiber English 1201 23 March 2016 The Effects of Social Media Social media is apart of the everyday life of people today. While it has helped us to open our connections, it has crippled us as well. We must be aware of the potential health, social, mental and educational problems that social media has the potential to cause and be willing to step away from these websites in order to understand what is happening and to prevent it by separating ourselves from it, when it is necessary. A place where people could find others of like interests without fear of social stigma appears, "and voila, just like that, suddenly the antisocial had become social." From there, many social networking websites appeared such as Classmates.com, where high school graduates can meet back up virtually. Many other social media websites surfaced, such as MySpace and Facebook, where people not only met up with people from the past and with similar interests but also those that live in the same home or that work together. Positive And Negative Effects Of Social Media Social media is a very popular and widely used medium of entertainment in today's society that allows people to connect and congregate from all over the world without having to leave the comfort of home. In order for many people to relieve social isolation and loneliness, social media unravels new pathways of communication and can be used to help people open up and express their opinions (Naruse). It can give people the chance to share and express their ideas to a large audience and receive feedback. Large and small businesses alike use this platform of communication in order to relay information about their products and services faster by using promotions and advertisements on social media websites. While social media has proven itself to be helpful and beneficial in today's society, there are many studies that show how it can take quite a toll on the mental health and wellbeing of the people who constantly use it. Many people of all ages and from all over the world use social media on a daily basis. While many people of different ages use it, social media seems to influence the lifestyle of younger users, such as teenagers. Younger users of social media are usually more impressionable and more likely to be affected and influenced by online trends and standards, and because these users spend much more time on social media, they are more susceptible to create a habit of constantly checking their phones and becoming addicted. Social networking became easier with the innovation of smartphones, by making social media more accessible than its initial phases. However, in social networking's earliest stages social media sites were created with the purpose of helping people stay linked together despite the distance separating each other. During that time, the only means of using these networking sites were by having access to a computer. Without the easy accessibility to computers, people back then could carry on with everyday life tasks without social networking distracting us from the life around us. Despite social media not fully taking off until the booming of mobile devices, the earliest known form of social media is believed to have been created in 1995 by way of Classmates.com. Eventually being followed by networks such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (Social Media). Unfortunately networking quickly changed in the 2010s when smartphones became more common and social media sites began to release their products as mobile applications or apps (Social Media). In this day and age in which some school–age children are gifted mobile devices almost everyone can get their hands on social media. It has become so easy to stay communicated by means of these social media apps that we are starting to forget how to interact among each other. We are moving away from face to face ... Social media allows access to friend of the present and past, along with the ability to connect with strangers, and the ability to research topics, share music, share videos, share pictures, share links and much more. Since the rise of social networking, information is spread much quicker through the use of the Internet in comparison to any other source used by individuals. According to ProCon.org, "Forty–seven percent of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook,MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from twenty–six percent in 2008." A possible solution to this worldwide dilemma would be limiting the hours people spend on social media from early on before they get "addicted" so to speak to being online at all times. Social media is used as a way to interact with others through technology. Social media or social interactions have been around much earlier than MySpace or Facebook came out. The earliest form of social media so to speak was the telegraph in 1792 (Edosomwan et.al). Around the 1800's the radio and telephone became the new way of social interactions. Email was introduced to some people around the 1960's but Internet was introduced to the public around the 1990's (Edosomwan et.al). Social networking sites started popping up around the 2000's and the most popular sites now started around 2003 and 2004. For example, MySpace and LinkedIn launched in 2003, and Facebook launched in 2004 (Edosomwan et.al). Many aspects cause negativity in social media. One main aspect of using social media constantly is because people are lonely. A German study showed that there is a correlation between the time spent on Facebook or other social media networks and how lonely a person is (Potarazu). In this particular study, it focused on college students. The study concluded that the more time a person spends on Facebook or any other social media network, the worse they feel about themselves or their own lives. Effects Of Social Media On Mental Health Effects of social media on mental health Overview Social media is described, by the Merriam–Webster dictionary (2015), as "forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)". As few as 10 years ago the term social media was yet to be coined, but within that decade the use of these blogs, websites and sharing platforms has increased exponentially with no plateau in sight. From creating Instagram accounts for household pets, to sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over Pinterest, people today have access to social media outlets for almost everything. Today about 74% of people ages 18–65 use some form of a social networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes the lead in social media usage with about 71% of those adults. LinkedIn and Pinterest are tied for second at 28% of users, 26% use Instagram, and Twitter falls last in the top 5 most used social medias with 23% of users (Pew, 2014). In September of 2013 the Pew Research Center measured that 90% of adults ages 18–29 used these social media outlets on a daily basis, which is an astonishing increase from the 9% that was measured in February 2005 (Pew, 2014). I intend to discuss three of these types of online communities – chat rooms, social network sites, and online classrooms/school groups – and look into the pros and cons of using each of these. There is no face to face with online chat rooms. Chat rooms enable people to act or say things in ways that they may not normally if they were face to face. This could also be a pro or a con, depending on the situation. One last con of chat rooms would be that, although you can talk to other people almost as if you were face to face instead of waiting for a response as you would have to with an email, you still have to wait for the other person to be online. If you want to chat with someone and they are not online, the chat room isn't going to do you much good. Sometimes people will prearrange times to get online and chat with another person. This is one way to overcome this con. Next, I will discuss social networking sites. Some examples of social networking sites would be MySpace, Facebook, Classmates.com, and Twitter. Social networking can be a wonderful and fun way to keep in touch and communicate with your family, friends, and colleagues. They can save you time and effort. Furthermore, this reflection period has enabled many factors of my classmate's identities to become apparent. While I believe the topics were less controversial during this period, I believe that the selected readings and a greater degree of variation in my classmate's opinions made this period much more disputed. Additionally, the topics reviewed have ushered to the forefront several students who until now had remained in the background. I count myself among the students who became more comfortable and assured during this reflection period. By now, I am pretty confident that I have gotten to know my classmates well enough to relatively understand the components of their identities that impact their perspectives. In the same manner, I believe that I have been able to participate in these topics more frequently and have thus presented more of my own identity to my classmates. Social media can open the world up to cyberbullies, "cat– fishers", hackers, and employment opportunities. Social media has a negative effect on the world in various ways. Cyberbullying is referred to as the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
