Is Social Media Good or Bad?
Social Media
Eighty-five percent of the 7.1 billion people in the world utilize the internet every
day. Seventy-four percent of those people become addicted to social media. Social
media are sites are where people can share pictures, communicate easily, blog
about their day, and look up information. It has been around since the late 1960’s.
The first form of social media was called the Bulletin Board System (BBS). It was
an online site that let users converse with each other, and download music and
games. Social media has advanced over the years. We now have sites such as
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, and MySpace. A
majority of the people that use these sites are teens and young adults. Social
media websites not only uses up time, but negatively impact many teenagers’ lives.
While these sites may be interesting and entertaining, it also contributes to
changes in teen behaviors, attitudes, struggles in school, and effective
communication.
What is Social Media?
 Social media refers to online tools and services which
allow an exchange of ideas, information, videos,
pictures, and graphics — just about anything you can
name.
 Social media also allows easy sharing and distribution
of existing content to others so that professional work
can be shared through networks.

 Business model is based on traditional banner advertising, sponsorships,
partnerships and promotions

Pros of Social Media
When using social media, it can be good and bad. It helps people communicate with people
from the past or who live far away, but at the same time, it can be bad for a variety of
reasons. Looking at the good side of social media, it makes it easier for people to keep in
touch with those who live far away. People who moved away from their hometown, which
they grew up and graduated in, can keep up with what old friends are doing in their life.
Social media is also a good way to share photos of your vacations so that all of your friends
can see.
For example, If anyone’s has friends that moved even further away. The only way she has
been able to see what is going on in their lives is with social media.
Several news companies have started joining the social media because it is a quick way to
release news to the public. A lot of times, if there is breaking news during the middle of the
day, these stories will be released on social media because most people can get on and view
the stories online. This also helps for those who aren't home when the news comes on
television.
Social Media - Changing How We Live
 In the last decade, social networking’s has been increased so quickly in our society.
 Teenagers spent a lot of hours daily by chatting, sharing, playing and posting their own photos
online.
 Although social networking made people to be in a better connecting, but that can have
harmful side like cyber-bullying more than helpful side.
 social networking has changed how we communicate with our community.
 Today, our fingers talk more than our mouths, by social media like Twitter and Facebook, and
that will lead us to be a uncooperative community.
 Social media is responsible for greater communication and a wider range of relationships.
 Social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter are the new wave of communication and
are the fastest growing means for meeting people, keeping people updated, and connecting
with friends and family.
 Social media sites remind people of important days and events that they might not have known
about otherwise, everything from church events to school closings are communicated via
social media.
Bad Habits and College Students
College is a time of learning and exploring new cultural and social boundaries.
Many people make wrong choices in college that effect on their career. It is also
often accompanied by negative side. As a student, I know in college successful life;
first, use to social networking site skipping classes and not paying attention to
much in study and career. These three bed habits that people are tend to pick up
mostly from each other that can be harmful. There are some disadvantages to
using social networking websites for people. In everyday life people using social
networking websites, that some affected negatively on their health and academic
career. Social Networking website includes so many people and many interesting
features which are designed for the purpose of communal connection. This
websites attack many people easily because of its have various stuff. There are
many students use social networking sites till midnight which is very dangerous
for their health and also wasting a time. They all time thinking about any stuff of
social networking site which makes them depress. Using those websites, people
are going to in wrong direction and that effect on their career.
Thank You
