The Media And The Platform
The media and the platform
For decades now women have suffered from the oppression of the patriarchal society we continue to
live in today. Giving credit where it is due, I will say we have made an evident and beneficial
progression as far as the essentialist views of feminism. There are many ways to promote feminism
and emphasize the importance of progression–it is beneficial for all. There are many ways to
promote and encourage the movement as an individual however, having a platform would be more
ideal. That being said, many celebrities do indeed use their platforms to speak on social injustices
happening daily, one in particular being Beyonce Knowles. Beyonce Knowles is an artist who has
been very active in the media for at least a decade now. She began her career as a vocalist in the
R&B group Destiny's Child and rocketed her career from there. Many of the songs Beyoncé [is
clearly in support of] promote feminism and girl power which is no secret; one in particular, "If I
were a Boy," written in 2007, directly calls out the patriarchal views associated with heterosexual
relationships. The song represents the type of relationships represented not only in the media but
realistically speaking as well. Beyonce used her platform to challenge social injustices not only by
singing this song but also her performance and message via the music video to it. One thing to note
are the specific lyrics that suggest dominant gender roles and though it was done as a means to
promote

Technical Issues : Construction Of The Platform
4. Technical issues:
Construction of the platform:
The platform was comprised of four main modules: A– Module controlling the flow of
hydrocarbons and water produced from the wells. B– Were the separation of oil from other fluids
took place, and then the oil was pumped into the main oil line for the transmission onshore. It was a
production module. C– The gas compression and gas processing module D– For utilities: contained
the 'control building', generators, and switchgear.

Professor Alexander is now director of the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research at Robert Gordon
University. Ten years after the disaster he managed to find 46 of the survivors; they took the part in
the study group on the long term psychological effect of Piper Alpha disaster and PTSD. They
agreed to give interviews and completed questionnaires, the study showed that: 97% of the group
reported psychological problems (Hull, Alexander, Klein 2002) Some of them needed individual
therapy to deal with PTSD and had prescribed medication (Hull, Alexander, Klein 2002).

The Platform Of Differentiated Instruction
Platform to Differentiated Instruction It is an instructor's job to ensure students' progress in their
knowledge and abilities of the cirriculum by focusing on standards they must master throughout the
school year. It is well known in the education world that successful teachers take time to know their
students and develop well thought out lesson plans that consider their students individual needs as
the focal point of design. Instructional scheme in a differentiated classroom is achieved through four
main criteria: content, student interest, classroom environment, and instructional procedure.
Differentiated instruction is a feasible strategy when considering the variety of learners in a typical
classroom. Getting to Know Your Students/ Build Community In the TeacherTube video, Inclusion
and Differentiated Instruction: Teachers in the Movies Do It Too, Hansen (2013) claimed, "Get to
know your students" and "build community" as the top 2 steps in differentiated instruction.
Knowing how to differentiate student learning first comes through knowing students interests,
hobbies, and learning abilities. In any relationship, people grow and develop when trust, safety,
understanding, and individual needs are established. These factors hold true in teacher student
relationships as well. Students are more apt to immerse themselves in learning activities when they
feel they are listened to and seen for their individual contributions and abilities. Building
community as

Apart from this they are also provided with a variety of sensors such as multi touch screens, high
resolution cameras, gyroscope sensors, advanced sound systems etc. which are not available in older
generation phones.
Currently there are many platforms available for smart phones of which Android, Apple iOS,
Windows phone and Blackberry are well known platforms. Development of applications for each
platform requires in depth knowledge of the platforms and their SDKs. This takes a lot of money
and time for developers to develop applications for various platforms. This led to development of
various cross platform frameworks and tools such as Phone Gap, Titanium, JQuery mobile etc.

The Problem Of An Oil Rig
Abstract
Petrobras was an oil rig which was designed for an offshore production unit off the coast of Brazil.
The oil rig was primarily designed as a floating drilling unit but was modified in 1997 to 1999 for it
to become a production unit, to save money and space by moving the Emergency drain tanks
(EDTs) from the platform into the structure but they were not checked properly meaning there was
poor alignment to the production heaters, which lead to the accumulations of hydrocarbons which
brought about the initial explosion. There was also a second explosion, caused by gases escaping
through a leakage which lead to the structure's eventual sinking. In this report I will be discussing
which were more important to the disaster, technical or human factors and what risk controls should
have been in place to avoid this disaster from happening. The main technical flaws were component
failure without a backup system, poor control of the emergency notification system layout and poor
design of the placement of the safety critical paths. Some human errors were lack of training and
communication. The consequences which occurred from this disaster were financial losses,
environmental impact and modifications to the rules.
Introduction
In this report I have been assigned to research into the major disaster of the sinking of the Petrobras
P–36 oil rig in March 2001, which lead to the deaths of 11 firemen. Over the next few pages I will
be discussing whether the disaster was a consequence

The Republican Platform
The Republican platform discusses several elements that are in contrast with the TDP. The subject
of school choice is described as the ability to allow parents to choose their children's school. The use
of educational funds would be given to use in public, private, charter, or for home schooling. The
school choice is proposed to by funded by tax credits and or exemptions.
One founding principle that is listed in the platform is that separation of the public facilities at
schools be only used for biological genders, this falls in line with the Judeo–Christian Principles that
are continually mentioned within the platform. An intense sense of faith and government is seen
throughout the Republican Party platform document. In addition, there is ... Show more content on

in our political ideologies as being an element that is reflective of the ideas of Libertarians and
Conservatives, but this element is part of the Texan Creed. It is this variant in values that gives
Texas its political environment. This value is listed in both party platforms and can be viewed

Economic Platform For The Philippines
Economic Platform for the Philippines' economic growth in the trade sector Brooks (2014) states
that in 2008, the entire Southeast Asian economy received roughly less than half as much foreign
direct investment as China did. Four years later, they pulled to within spitting distance. Why is there
a sudden surge of international interest in this particular region? It is because ASEAN's five core
countries– Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand– have been growing faster
than any other regional grouping in the world over the past 5 years, with Philippines standing out in
particular because of its' impressive 6.6% economic growth rate as of 2012. The Philippines is now
one of the fastest–growing economies in Southeast Asia, going from a developing market to what is
considered now as an emerging market in a global scale because of the competency of trade in the
Philippines. To properly define trade, it is a basic economic concept that involves multiple parties
participating in the voluntary negotiation and then the exchange of one's goods and services for
desired goods and services that someone else possesses (Trade, 2003). Trade has been occurring
around the world for centuries and the purpose of it is to address the problem of coincidence of
wants. Generally, there are two forms of trade: Foreign and Domestic Trade. Akrani (2011) states
that foreign trade is the exchange of goods and services between different countries. It is further
divided into 3 groups:

Using Online Crowdfunding Platforms And Social Media
Introduction:
Methods for sourcing donations have evolved dramatically in recent years through the use of online
crowdfunding platforms and social media. Crowdfunding is defined by Oxford dictionary as the
practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of
people, typically via the Internet. Examples of popular crowdfunding methods are Facebook's
"Donate Now" button along with standalone donation platforms such as Gofundme, Kickstarter,
Crowdrise, Spot.us, Gojournalim.ca, Kiva.org, and Indiegogo.
Crowdfunding is encourages a direct connection between donors and causes, investors and startups
and peers in individual funding opportunities. I hypothesize that large scale analyses of

Statistically the cause campaign will be more successful if a personal network is involved. (Mollick,
2013). Fundraisers can determine if, given these factors, they are more likely to find success seeking
funding from more traditional sources like banks, venture capitalists, and foundations or by
attempting to conceive and execute a viral crowdfunding campaign.
Literature Review
This literature review investigates the current crowdfunding landscape based on the following three
components. First, who is participating and who is benefiting from a business investing, charitable
giving and peer–to–peer lending standpoint. Second, what factors and economic theories contribute
to the ultimate success or failure of an investment project on a crowdfunding platform. And lastly,
what are the positive reward systems and negative implications for both the cause and the
contributor?
The objective of this literature review is to recognize how these components affect a new generation
of funding. I will highlight reasons why these sources are rapidly growing and postulate if they are
replacing the older, highly constrained traditional funding models.
Who Crowdfunds and Who Benefits?
Crowdfunding can be used for anything from start–up businesses, research funding, citizen
journalism, independent creative projects, and non–profit fundraising, to individual medical
expenses, student loans debt and even financing personal luxuries. In this review I use the term
"cause" to refer to

Cloud computing is growing in popularity every year and soon most businesses and individuals will
be unable to avoid using it all the time. As more and more companies start using the cloud in their
everyday business, software will have to continue to change with that growth. Many software
companies that currently cater to businesses have already begun the move to cloud based services.
Companies like Intuit with their QuickBooks product are starting to offer a cloud based version of
their software. Many companies that offer Human Resource Management, Customer Relationship
Management, and Enterprise Resource Planning software packages have already moved to a solely
cloud based off software package. Many companies that make software for individual use are also
starting to move to cloud based services. Adobe's Photoshop is an example of software for the
consumer being moved to the cloud. Before it would cost $1,000 to $1,500 to purchase Photoshop,
but with their recent move to the cloud consumers can pay a relatively low monthly few to have web
based access to the same software. As more and more companies more their software online, we will
also see a rise in the idea of module software packages. The need to buy the entire software package
or suite will all but disappear in the future. Businesses and consumers alike with have the ability to
only purchase the part of a program that they need for only as long as they need it rather than paying
full price. As software

The Pros And Cons Of No-Platforming
No–platforming is the practice of banning controversial speakers from being given a platform to
voice their opinions. Recently, there has been debate over whether it is legitimate for activists to no–
platform individuals. In the video, To Speak or Not to Speak: Should Universities Practice "No–
Platforming"? by the Free Speech Debate, speakers from both sides of the argument discuss this
politically important question. In my opinion, the side against no–platforming presents the most
convincing argument because it is more logical and realistic in the context of today's society. In this
paper, I will summarize the main arguments of both sides and will defend why I believe the side
against no–platforming is the most convincing.
The main argument of the for no–platforming side as to why no–platforming is legitimate is because
it gives a voice to peoples who would be otherwise silenced, disregarded or oppressed. They argue
that no–platforming should be practiced because it gives equal opportunity for everyone to speak
and defend their views. Chi Chi Shi makes it clear that no speech is unaffected by our society's
power structures and there is no even ground on which, "people can debate freely as purely rational,
un–interested agents."1 Teammate Sizwe Mpofu–Walsh goes on to explain the difference between
the freedom of speech and platforming by stating that, "the right to speak is not to be equated with
the right to a public platform."2 A supporting argument for the legitimacy of

Notes On The Migration Of Uranium
lateritization process leads to the migration of uranium, but the produced laterites of either grey (Al)
or brown (Fe) soils are good adsorbents for uranium and other heavy metals. The karstification
process leads to the formation of caves which are filled by either allochtonous or autochtonous soils.
These karst soils host uranium and rare earth elements (El Aassy et al., 2006).
(2) Middle Marly Dolostone–Siltstone Member is also karstified and lateritized and consists of marl

According to UKAD (2015) supplements are products used alongside a normal diet to improve
overall health or enhance sporting performance. Protein supplements have been recommended to
athletes to enhance nitrogen retention, increase muscle mass and to promote muscle glycogen re–

non – athletes is extremely extensive, however Lambert et al., (2004) explains that even if athletes
do need more protein then the Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI) are compatible with the current
acceptable macronutrient dietary recommendations (10 – 35% of energy from protein) and may be
easily obtained from natural foods in the diet (Tipton et al., 2004). There are many reasons athletes

Piper Alpha Case Studies
Abstract
This research report is about the Piper Alpha Disaster that happened in 1988. Being one of the major
oil production oil–rig in the UK, the accident that took place more than 20 years ago caught the
attention of many, especially those in the field. The happening was largely due to the complacency
of the supervisors as well as the safety measures of the management. Using the internet, academic
journals and textbooks available, the research was conducted by referring to various sources of
information regarding the incident. After the explosion there are many new prevention steps taken in
this field of industry as well as new managing system of the offshore regulatory control.

The offshore oil and gas was a very new industry introduced to the United Kingdom very briefly 30
years ago. The naïve government was seduced by the very promising reward of the industry,
knowing that it'll be high risk. The management disregarded adherence to certain safety rules. There
were regulations, but enforcement was not there. The nation and corporate pride rendered
everything in disaster.
2.1.2 Structure and Function
A large fixed platform, Piper Alpha was situated on the Piper oilfield, approximately 120 miles (193
km) northeast of Aberdeen in 474 feet (144 m) of water, and comprised four modules separated by
firewalls. The platform was constructed by McDermott Engineering at Ardersier and UIE at
Cherbourg, with the sections united at Ardersier before tow out during 1975, with production
commencing in late 1976 (Drysdale & Slyvester–Evans, 1998). The west and east elevation of
the topsides of the Piper Alpha platform are as shown in figures 2 and 3. Module A, the wellhead
module was considered to be the most hazardous were arranged so to provide a maximum

Considering The Telemedicine Platform
Considering The Telemedicine Platform As hospitals care for more and sicker patients, unique care
platforms are being explored to ensure the highest level of care is provided. We must remember that
only around 50% of patients within a critical care setting receive the best practice recommendations
(Bauman & Hyzy, 2012). To overcome this care gap, telemedicine or the tele health concept is being
explored. Grown from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), telemedicine has
been around for 50 years and uses television and/or communication technology to provide patient
care (Rogove, 2012). This platform has numerous advantages that include bringing more specialized
care to the bedside, expanded monitoring systems as well as improved clinical outcomes
(Winterbottom & Campbell, 2012). So, how can telemedicine impact the patient? Literature around
the telemedicine concept (especially as it relates to the critical care patient) is numerous.
Winterbottom & Campbell (2012) identified and discussed the connecting point between
telemedicine and bedside staff. They (Winterbottom & Campbell, 2012) noted that the second layer
of monitoring provided by telemedicine leads to a more proactive care pattern resulting in less
medical complications and, thus, impacting outcomes. In one article (Rufo, 2011), it was noted that
mortality alone could be reduced by 15% – 60% if a tele health model is implemented. The
telemedicine platform, as described by Rufo (2011), consists

What are Cross–Platform Apps?
The apps compatible with individual operating systems are native apps. Whereas, mobile apps
compatible with different operating systems like android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry OS are
called as Cross–Platform Apps. Also called as hybrid apps, they are developed using native widgets

Startups are using cross–platform mobile app development as a tool to penetrate the market and then
replacing it with the native apps. Even you can do so.
When it comes to mobile app development, then it is very much hard for a novice entrepreneur to
figure out whether to go with native or with the cross–platform app development. The motive

consider myself conservative in nature and in most cases, abortion included. I lean towards their
positions on these issues. Once a child is conceived, regardless of the circumstance, it is a life. As a
society, Americans generally take life and human rights very seriously. Other countries that have

I support the republican platform on the issue of homosexual marriage. Marriage has been
traditionally defined as a recognized union between a man and a woman. Since the law has changed,
dictionaries have now added that it is also between two people of the same sex. (Merriam–Webster).
Marriage has been traditionally recognized, condoned, and conducted by the church of your choice.
It is spiritual in nature, based on the natural attraction and love of town persons of the opposite sex.
Many citizens in this day and age have come to believe that it is strictly a legal status, given its tax
breaks and advantages. The Democratic Party and Supreme Court have taken the sanctity of
marriage and traditions of the church and made it about discrimination. There are other ways to stop
discrimination without crushing the values and beliefs that America was founded on. Democrats
have taken a blind eye on separation of church and state with this issue. Due to the stated
discrimination issue and the governments need to step in and correct what they think is a deficiency,

The Tokyo Railway Station Building
The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the Marunouchi business
district. The station which acts as Tokyo's main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro
network, Japan Railways' regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway
lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by
the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore,
the train station has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical
culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby
making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style
remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole.
Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its
actual plan is connected to the history of Japan's rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by
the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic structure
within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby
necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi.
The station which was to accommodate Tokyo's entire network was simply referred to as the
"central terminal" (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and
many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean
floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the
effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years.
The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic
future of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on
the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel "posts." These
platforms harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80
workers. In addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity
keeping them situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as
"spudding."
There are two types of drill bits: (1) "a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed
with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial
diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As
the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached." (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the
ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet. The
time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.

Odobo game platform review Have you heard of Odobo gaming platform? Probably not, but we can
assure you, these guys are really worth having a look at. Odobo gaming is a rather special case in
the game manufacturing world. Unlike the giants like NetEnt or Microgaming, Odobo is more of a
platform that provides the opportunity for the smaller or independent game developers to create,
present and promote their games. The game makers that work with Odobo are Touchstone Games,
Rabcat, Applejack Gaming, Vermantia, Fantasy Factory and many others, more than 20 developers
in total. And that number keeps constantly growing. Let's see what Odobo say about themselves; it
will probably make things much clearer. "Odobo is the industry's first HTML5 Developer Program

Games Platforms : The Development Of Platforms
Games Platforms The development of platforms A platform for gaming can be explained as a
collection of hardware components that are specifically designed together to run high performance
games that can be interactively played by users. An example of a modern games platform could be a
PlayStation 4. These games platforms can fall under their own different categories. Back in early
1951, the first gaming computer which was called "Nimrod" was created. Then, a short while later
in 1967, Mr Ralph Baer invented the first home gaming console called the "brown box", which was
constructed using a wooden box which had two basic controllers attached. At the time of this
invention everyone was amazed by this new technology which allowed people to ... Show more

In the early 1980's, three–dimensional animations was brought into gaming which improved the feel
of the game drastically. Over time it wasn't just the games themselves that needed improving it was
also the hardware, too. Back in the 80's, a single core processor would have been plenty for these
simplistic games. However, as the games start to evolve and the quality of the games increases, so
do the processors. Today, we have octo–core processors which are barely quarter of the size of the
old processors, this is due to recent silicone technology with micro chips. Also, colour is evolving
too, most televisions now have 4K HD resolution meaning that the graphics cards within the
consoles need to be able to deal with this high performance colour depth and graphics. Over the last
couple of decades the quality of gaming and all the new ideas are constantly changing and evolving,
so it is exciting to see what the future holds for the gaming industry seen as virtual reality is just
starting to work its way into gaming. PC Gaming When people mention PC's, what do they actually
mean? A PC can come in all different shapes and sizes, however, it just boils down to a collection of
hardware components, for instance, RAM, graphics card, processors, storage devices and audio
cards which are all linked together and housed in a metal box. A PC has input and output peripherals
and once you have inserted an input into the computer it will process your request, then it will issue

Argumentative Essay On One Happy Family
One Happy Family? The Influence of Sense of Community on Trust in the Sharing Economy
Letting strangers sleep in your apartment while you are away is something that would have been
considered outrageous just a few years ago. However, this is exactly what is happening on a large
scale via the online platform Airbnb, part of a larger phenomenon called 'the sharing economy'.
Although very popular, consuming in the sharing economy is not without risks. Guests on Airbnb,
for example, can be confronted with disappointing accommodation or unreliable hosts. Hosts, in
turn, can be confronted with property damage. Trust is, therefore, a key factor for successful
transactions in the sharing economy (Horton and Zeckhauser, 2016) The fact that users directly
transact with each other and meet offline is a distinct characteristic of the sharing economy and
makes it a social practice. It is not a mere marketplace where anonymous actors exchange goods, it
is a community marketplace where people share a sense of community (SoC) upon which trust can
arise (Celata et al., 2017). Moreover, sharing platforms actively emphasize SoC in their marketing
strategy as a distinctive alternative to standard markets. SoC is a psychological experience of a
community that can provide for shared moral values, beliefs, and reciprocity between people, and
consequently enhance trust. Especially in community marketplaces where people can not rely on
strong social connections, these aspects can form a basis for

Technology Is The Technology For The Nextgen
Blockchain technology came into existence in 2011 with Bitcoins, the digital cryptocurrency. At the
onset, Bitcoins were used mainly in the darknet and thus developed a shady controversial image.
But, with 15.8 million (Blockchain Info , n.d.) Bitcoins in existence at this moment, they are surely
gaining popularity. It isn't really this crypto currency, but the underlying Blockchain Technology
engine has huge potential in the future. Recently, there is an increasing distrust in the centralized
systems like the Government, banks, other technology companies, etc. This has resulted in
disintermediation in numerous industries like music, healthcare, ecommerce, etc. In this prospective
no–middle–man world, Blockchain is liking to be the driving force for almost all the transaction–

in research on Blockchain, this technology is seems to be the technology for the nextGen.
This paper attempts to introduce the blockchain technology and current advances seen in this field.
Also, the paper will cover the prospect of using block–chain in the Internet of Things and thus

This type of bed frame requires only a mattress without a spring mattress. Without the right support,

Platforms And Interfaces Essay
A player's personal experience of transforming platforms and interfaces: from Game Boy to
personal computers
Introduction
Accept it or not, video games and "gaming" are a large part of Australian culture. The average
Australian 21–year–old would have spent over 10,000 hours playing games (that's how long it takes
to complete school from year 5 to year 12). For immeasurable reasons such as involvement,
freedom, entertainment and story–telling are games such a powerful medium of creative and
interactive media7.
Due to my own personal experience with games and their distinct platforms and interfaces, this
essay will provide a comparative view of two gaming platforms; a hand–held Game Boy Advance

The GBA was made particularly popular amongst gaming communities by games such as Zelda and
Pokémon. Coloured games were pleasant to look at and the interface overall is easy to use; a D–pad,
A & B buttons and triggers. This is partly as to why it was so popular among younger age group
fans. The hand–held console used small ROM cartridges, and the console came in a variety of
colours and shared compatibility with other Nintendo consoles at the time (GameCube & Game boy
colour). Wireless adaptors were one of the biggest innovations to effect GBA users. For the first
time games like Pokémon let players interact by battling and trading. The initial sense was that the
game is bigger than yourself and the screen you're looking at, the once single player experience can
now be shared with other friends (which I remember was a huge deal). Due to these circumstances,
the GBA created a strong following and as of June 2010, 81.51 million units were sold including 16
million copies of one of their most popular bestselling games; Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire3.
Buying a PC is not cheap and can be quite expensive, which is why naturally you'd only spend the
money if gaming was one of your biggest hobbies. There are companies that will assemble prebuilt
gaming computers, and establishments that retail mice, keyboards and headsets aimed toward
gamers. PC

Legacy Platform Analysis
"A legacy platform, also called a legacy operating system, is an operating system (OS) no longer in
widespread use, or that has been supplanted by an updated version of earlier technology. Many
enterprises that use computers have legacy platforms, as well as legacy applications, that serve
critical business needs" (Rouse, 2017). For example, a large amount of banks and government
entities still utilize legacy systems. Why would organizations want to use outdated operating
systems when there are likely new, better alternatives? In short, legacy systems have been altered so
much over the years to handle the organization's operations that the organization has created a
situation of extreme dependence on the legacy system. The revisions and ... Show more content on

complexities due to the nature of its design. For this reason, it is necessary for organizations to make
a considerable initial investment into adopting a service–oriented architecture design. In order to
make service–oriented architecture work well for an organization, there must first be a substantial
analysis of every facet of the initiative. "The construction of services can be expensive and time–
consuming, introducing a more burdensome project delivery lifecycle, further compounded by some
of the top–down analysis requirements that may need to be in place before services can be built"

Social Media And Its Effects On Society
Algorithm has become a term that is constantly intertwined with social media. Online platforms
have become a place where archives and algorithms are used to provide us with content as well as a
platform for users to participate and share information (Louw & Carah, 2015). Algorithms are used
to connect people to the content that interest them without the need to search for it on their own
(Hallinan & Striphas, 2014). Charlie Brook's Black Mirror episode, Be Right Back (2013), has
triggered us to think about how the information that we share on social media is archived and used
to create customised forms of content and continuously engage us on media platforms. In this essay
I will be discussing key ideas drawn from the episode. Firstly, databases are created from archives
which grow as participation of users increase over time. Secondly, the information is made useful by
sorting and analysing them with algorithms to create customised content for users. Thirdly,
personalisation of content has benefits, however, it raises some consequences on the society. I will
further illustrate the ideas from real world examples such as Netflix and Facebook. Databases are
created from accumulation of archives as users participate. Data is any type of content that is
collected from activities that happens on the platform converted to a digital form (Carah, 2016).
Platforms watch and learn user's actions to predict future behaviours (Louw & Carah, 2015). In the

TENSION LEG PLATFORM
Overview and structures
A tension leg platform (TLP) is a floating platform that held in position by securing tension legs to
the foundation at the seabed. The followings are the compartment or system of the tension leg
platform.
The foundation can be either steel piles, templates or a gravity foundation. Its function is to link the
seafloor with the TLP. The foundations are constructed onshore and transported to the site.
Templates are only used when needed. A template is used to set a frame on the seafloor to provide a
layout for the location of wells and foundation to be installed.
The hull provides buoyancy to the platform. It also holds the deck and its facilities. A typical hull
has four air–filled columns supported by pontoons. The floating structure requires mooring systems
or tension legs to stay in position. In TLP, the mooring system consists of tension legs which secure
the foundation to the hull. Their length depends on water depth.
Units or elements of the surface facilities are known as modules. Modules which consist of the
wellbay, power, process, quarters and drilling is fixed to the deck.
A production riser conveys products from the well to the equipments on the platform.

Without these three traits, I believe one may be considered a manager but not a leader. How these
characteristics are developed, employed, and classified will also be covered. It is important to note

92). Retired Lieutenant Colonel Harry C. Garner also writes, "to lead successfully, a person must
demonstrate two active essential, interrelated traits: expertise [competence] and empathy; this
personal development is the first important building block of leadership" (p. 84). He goes on to
explain that "tough empathy requires firm, direct, and value–driven action that does not sacrifice
standards but remains sensitive to ensuring followers grow and develop during the process" (p. 86).
Competence alone does not increase referent power. However, a leader that displays empathy will
garner trust and loyalty. An empathetic leader has the opportunity to use referent power instead of
positional. When leaders use referent power they have a greater capacity to motivate and inspire.
General Schwarzkopf said it best: "Great leaders stand before a platoon and see not a platoon but 44

The Ocean Ranger The Ocean Ranger was an offshore exploration oil drilling platform that sank in
Canadian waters 315 kilometres southeast from St. John's Newfoundland, on the Grand Banks of

largest semi–submersible, offshore exploration, oil drilling platform of the day. Built in 1976 by
Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, it operated off the coasts of Alaska, New Jersey, Ireland, and in
November 1980 moved to the Grand Banks. Since it was so big it was considered to have the ability

For more safety, training requirements for offshore workers have greatly increased and new
facilities have been established to make sure that the workers have the safety skills to avoid another
disaster like the Ocean Ranger. Weather buoys were placed in certain areas throughout the waters in
Atlantic Canada to give weather information to forecasters and mariners. The oil companies were
held responsible because they did not train their workers for emergency procedures and did not do
any emergency drills. The Ocean Ranger could have survived the storm and flooding if the
crewmembers had understood how the ballast system worked. The two men working in the ballast

halfway point in his training, but he was promoted. The Ocean Ranger did not have enough safety
equipment on board for the amount of passengers they had. Families of lost crewmembers sued the
companies that owned and operated the Ocean Ranger. The companies were forced to pay millions

countries that used the Ocean Ranger, lost one of their sources of oil, which may have been a very

Gas audibly leaked out at high pressure, ignited and exploded and produces a catastrophic fire

Some of the workers realized that the only way to survive would be by jumping in to the sea and
hoping to be rescued by boat. Only 61 men were survived, but most of them died due to suffocated

The Media And The Platform

  • 1. The Media And The Platform The media and the platform For decades now women have suffered from the oppression of the patriarchal society we continue to live in today. Giving credit where it is due, I will say we have made an evident and beneficial progression as far as the essentialist views of feminism. There are many ways to promote feminism and emphasize the importance of progression–it is beneficial for all. There are many ways to promote and encourage the movement as an individual however, having a platform would be more ideal. That being said, many celebrities do indeed use their platforms to speak on social injustices happening daily, one in particular being Beyonce Knowles. Beyonce Knowles is an artist who has been very active in the media for at least a decade now. She began her career as a vocalist in the R&B group Destiny's Child and rocketed her career from there. Many of the songs Beyoncé [is clearly in support of] promote feminism and girl power which is no secret; one in particular, "If I were a Boy," written in 2007, directly calls out the patriarchal views associated with heterosexual relationships. The song represents the type of relationships represented not only in the media but realistically speaking as well. Beyonce used her platform to challenge social injustices not only by singing this song but also her performance and message via the music video to it. One thing to note are the specific lyrics that suggest dominant gender roles and though it was done as a means to promote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thlexander, who was caring for the survivors in the burns unit at the time of the accident in the Royal Infirmary, led the first psychiatric team and injured workers (Hull, Alexander, Klein, 2002). Local social worker, Ann Bone organised for injured workers and they families support group– Piper outreach team. (Harris, 1989) Professor Alexander is now director of the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research at Robert Gordon University. Ten years after the disaster he managed to find 46 of the survivors; they took the part in the study group on the long term psychological effect of Piper Alpha disaster and PTSD. They agreed to give interviews and completed questionnaires, the study showed that: 97% of the group reported psychological problems (Hull, Alexander, Klein 2002) Some of them needed individual therapy to deal with PTSD and had prescribed medication (Hull, Alexander, Klein 2002). • 3. The Platform Of Differentiated Instruction Platform to Differentiated Instruction It is an instructor's job to ensure students' progress in their knowledge and abilities of the cirriculum by focusing on standards they must master throughout the school year. It is well known in the education world that successful teachers take time to know their students and develop well thought out lesson plans that consider their students individual needs as the focal point of design. Instructional scheme in a differentiated classroom is achieved through four main criteria: content, student interest, classroom environment, and instructional procedure. Differentiated instruction is a feasible strategy when considering the variety of learners in a typical classroom. Getting to Know Your Students/ Build Community In the TeacherTube video, Inclusion and Differentiated Instruction: Teachers in the Movies Do It Too, Hansen (2013) claimed, "Get to know your students" and "build community" as the top 2 steps in differentiated instruction. Knowing how to differentiate student learning first comes through knowing students interests, hobbies, and learning abilities. In any relationship, people grow and develop when trust, safety, understanding, and individual needs are established. These factors hold true in teacher student relationships as well. Students are more apt to immerse themselves in learning activities when they feel they are listened to and seen for their individual contributions and abilities. Building community as ... • 7. The Problem Of An Oil Rig Abstract Petrobras was an oil rig which was designed for an offshore production unit off the coast of Brazil. The oil rig was primarily designed as a floating drilling unit but was modified in 1997 to 1999 for it to become a production unit, to save money and space by moving the Emergency drain tanks (EDTs) from the platform into the structure but they were not checked properly meaning there was poor alignment to the production heaters, which lead to the accumulations of hydrocarbons which brought about the initial explosion. There was also a second explosion, caused by gases escaping through a leakage which lead to the structure's eventual sinking. In this report I will be discussing which were more important to the disaster, technical or human factors and what risk controls should have been in place to avoid this disaster from happening. The main technical flaws were component failure without a backup system, poor control of the emergency notification system layout and poor design of the placement of the safety critical paths. Some human errors were lack of training and communication. The consequences which occurred from this disaster were financial losses, environmental impact and modifications to the rules. Introduction In this report I have been assigned to research into the major disaster of the sinking of the Petrobras P–36 oil rig in March 2001, which lead to the deaths of 11 firemen. Over the next few pages I will be discussing whether the disaster was a consequence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One founding principle that is listed in the platform is that separation of the public facilities at schools be only used for biological genders, this falls in line with the Judeo–Christian Principles that are continually mentioned within the platform. Economic Platform For The Philippines Economic Platform for the Philippines' economic growth in the trade sector Brooks (2014) states that in 2008, the entire Southeast Asian economy received roughly less than half as much foreign direct investment as China did. Four years later, they pulled to within spitting distance. Why is there a sudden surge of international interest in this particular region? It is because ASEAN's five core countries– Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand– have been growing faster than any other regional grouping in the world over the past 5 years, with Philippines standing out in particular because of its' impressive 6.6% economic growth rate as of 2012. The Philippines is now one of the fastest–growing economies in Southeast Asia, going from a developing market to what is considered now as an emerging market in a global scale because of the competency of trade in the Philippines. To properly define trade, it is a basic economic concept that involves multiple parties participating in the voluntary negotiation and then the exchange of one's goods and services for desired goods and services that someone else possesses (Trade, 2003). Trade has been occurring around the world for centuries and the purpose of it is to address the problem of coincidence of wants. Generally, there are two forms of trade: Foreign and Domestic Trade. Literature Review This literature review investigates the current crowdfunding landscape based on the following three components. First, who is participating and who is benefiting from a business investing, charitable giving and peer–to–peer lending standpoint. Second, what factors and economic theories contribute to the ultimate success or failure of an investment project on a crowdfunding platform. And lastly, what are the positive reward systems and negative implications for both the cause and the contributor? The objective of this literature review is to recognize how these components affect a new generation of funding. Considering The Telemedicine Platform Considering The Telemedicine Platform As hospitals care for more and sicker patients, unique care platforms are being explored to ensure the highest level of care is provided. We must remember that only around 50% of patients within a critical care setting receive the best practice recommendations (Bauman & Hyzy, 2012). To overcome this care gap, telemedicine or the tele health concept is being explored. Grown from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), telemedicine has been around for 50 years and uses television and/or communication technology to provide patient care (Rogove, 2012). This platform has numerous advantages that include bringing more specialized care to the bedside, expanded monitoring systems as well as improved clinical outcomes (Winterbottom & Campbell, 2012). So, how can telemedicine impact the patient? Literature around the telemedicine concept (especially as it relates to the critical care patient) is numerous. Winterbottom & Campbell (2012) identified and discussed the connecting point between telemedicine and bedside staff. They (Winterbottom & Campbell, 2012) noted that the second layer of monitoring provided by telemedicine leads to a more proactive care pattern resulting in less medical complications and, thus, impacting outcomes. There are two types of drill bits: (1) "a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached." The Influence of Sense of Community on Trust in the Sharing Economy Letting strangers sleep in your apartment while you are away is something that would have been considered outrageous just a few years ago. As stated previously, the adoption of service–oriented architecture can bring forth various complexities due to the nature of its design. For this reason, it is necessary for organizations to make a considerable initial investment into adopting a service–oriented architecture design. In order to make service–oriented architecture work well for an organization, there must first be a substantial analysis of every facet of the initiative. "The construction of services can be expensive and time– consuming, introducing a more burdensome project delivery lifecycle, further compounded by some of the top–down analysis requirements that may need to be in place before services can be built" (Erl, 2008, p. 88). The complexities of analyzing, developing, and implementing a service–oriented architecture initiative coupled with the monetary expenses, time–constraints, and potentially vexatious project lifecycle ... • 30. Social Media And Its Effects On Society Algorithm has become a term that is constantly intertwined with social media. Online platforms have become a place where archives and algorithms are used to provide us with content as well as a platform for users to participate and share information (Louw & Carah, 2015). Algorithms are used to connect people to the content that interest them without the need to search for it on their own (Hallinan & Striphas, 2014). Charlie Brook's Black Mirror episode, Be Right Back (2013), has triggered us to think about how the information that we share on social media is archived and used to create customised forms of content and continuously engage us on media platforms. In this essay I will be discussing key ideas drawn from the episode. Firstly, databases are created from archives which grow as participation of users increase over time. Secondly, the information is made useful by sorting and analysing them with algorithms to create customised content for users. Thirdly, personalisation of content has benefits, however, it raises some consequences on the society. I will further illustrate the ideas from real world examples such as Netflix and Facebook. Databases are created from accumulation of archives as users participate. Data is any type of content that is collected from activities that happens on the platform converted to a digital form (Carah, 2016). Platforms watch and learn user's actions to predict future behaviours (Louw & Carah, 2015). In the film, the media platform was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

TENSION LEG PLATFORM Overview and structures A tension leg platform (TLP) is a floating platform that held in position by securing tension legs to the foundation at the seabed. The followings are the compartment or system of the tension leg platform. The foundation can be either steel piles, templates or a gravity foundation. Its function is to link the seafloor with the TLP. The foundations are constructed onshore and transported to the site. Templates are only used when needed. A template is used to set a frame on the seafloor to provide a layout for the location of wells and foundation to be installed. The hull provides buoyancy to the platform. It also holds the deck and its facilities. A typical hull has four air–filled columns supported by pontoons. The floating structure requires mooring systems or tension legs to stay in position. In TLP, the mooring system consists of tension legs which secure the foundation to the hull. Their length depends on water depth. Units or elements of the surface facilities are known as modules. Garner also writes, "to lead successfully, a person must demonstrate two active essential, interrelated traits: expertise [competence] and empathy; this personal development is the first important building block of leadership" (p. 84). He goes on to explain that "tough empathy requires firm, direct, and value–driven action that does not sacrifice standards but remains sensitive to ensuring followers grow and develop during the process" (p. 86). Competence alone does not increase referent power. However, a leader that displays empathy will garner trust and loyalty. An empathetic leader has the opportunity to use referent power instead of positional. When leaders use referent power they have a greater capacity to motivate and inspire. General Schwarzkopf said it best: "Great leaders stand before a platoon and see not a platoon but 44 individuals" (in Tribus, 2005, p. 25). The Ocean Ranger Oil Disaster Essay The Ocean Ranger The Ocean Ranger was an offshore exploration oil drilling platform that sank in Canadian waters 315 kilometres southeast from St. John's Newfoundland, on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland on February 15, 1982, with 84 crewmembers onboard. The Ocean Ranger was the largest semi–submersible, offshore exploration, oil drilling platform of the day. Built in 1976 by Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, it operated off the coasts of Alaska, New Jersey, Ireland, and in November 1980 moved to the Grand Banks. Since it was so big it was considered to have the ability to drill in areas too dangerous for other rigs. For more safety, training requirements for offshore workers have greatly increased and new facilities have been established to make sure that the workers have the safety skills to avoid another disaster like the Ocean Ranger. Weather buoys were placed in certain areas throughout the waters in Atlantic Canada to give weather information to forecasters and mariners. The oil companies were held responsible because they did not train their workers for emergency procedures and did not do any emergency drills. The Ocean Ranger could have survived the storm and flooding if the crewmembers had understood how the ballast system worked. The two men working in the ballast room had never been tested for what they had learned. The senior operator had only reached the halfway point in his training, but he was promoted. The Ocean Ranger did not have enough safety equipment on board for the amount of passengers they had. Families of lost crewmembers sued the companies that owned and operated the Ocean Ranger. The companies were forced to pay millions in lawsuits. Oil companies lost a lot of money because of all the lawsuits, but Canada and other countries that used the Ocean Ranger, lost one of their sources of oil, which may have been a very good producer for them. Japan especially lost money because they invested the money into building this structure. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
