1. TA Member Profile
After having interviewed a select range of people from my
target audience, I have also interviewed a singular person to
ensure I can build a target audience profile based on one
person’s opinions and justifications. To do so I interviewed
Nicholas Leadley, a 17 year old college student. Nick fits into
the primary target audience and I interviewed Nick and
asked him about relative media information such as that of
her music likes and dislikes, her preferred TV shows and
choice of filmgenres etc. This will help me to understand the
psychographics and demographics of my target audience.
Music –
Nicklikesavast varietyof musicgenresandfindsmusicsoothingand relaxing.NicksaysthatLondon
Grammar’s track ‘Nightcall’isone inwhichallowsforthe audience to interprettheirownideasand
emotionsregardingthe songhoweveritalsohasitsownclear cut meanings.Nickalsoaddsthat
LondonGrammar (LG) inparticularhas clearand identifiablesongswhicheasilyfitintothe band’s
genresof choice and soallowsforthere to be a recognisable patternbetweensongsandgenres –
the typical conventionsof the musicgenres.NicktakesalikingtoNightcalldue to itsmelodicand
dreamyatmosphere.
Music Videos –
Nickpreferstolistentomusicratherthan watch the videostothe musichoweverwhenhe doeshe
likesonesinwhichare eithercinematicorhave brightand boldcoloursas itremindshimof summer.
Thisnotionof resemblance thereforesuggestthatthe targetaudience likemusicvideosinwhich
relate tothe pace/tempoandmoodof the songand so withthisthe coloursfor ourvideowill be low
keyand darkerto that of whichmost othergenreshave. Alongsiderelatingthingssuchascolours
and speedstothe songitself,itensuresthatwe canrelate ourvideoingeneral (the ideasexplored)
to geta reactionfromthe audience andperhapsletthe audience see themselves inthe situation -
the ideaof identifyfromthe ‘UsesandGratification’theory.
2. Films –
Nickhas a range of filmgenresinwhichhe enjoyswatchinghoweverinparticularlikesthose of
whichare predominantlyactionbased.Thisthereforeconnotesthatthe musicinthisfilmsare more
upbeatto that of the LG songsthoughwiththisthe group can take inspirationfromcinematic
perspectivesandapplythistoour musicvideo.He alsoaddsthat he likesablendbetweenfastpaced
actionand slowerpacedsceneswhichinterlinkwithone another andsothisis appliedinourmusic
videowhere eachscene iseitherjoinedviathe actressdancing(slow paced) orthe locationchanges
beinglinkedbyacar scene (slowpacedagain).
TV –
Nicholastendsnottowatch as much TV as he doesfilmshoweverwhenhe doeshe likestowatcha
mixedarrayof documentaries,comedyprogrammesandTV series.Thisensureshe doesn’tget
boredof watchingthe same type of programmeseachtime andso thissignifiesthatthere isa mix of
camera workand genresthatare presentinthe TV that he watches. Fromthisthe groupcan take
away the notionof beingable touse a vast range of camerashots andanglesand make the video
interestingforthe audience.
Other Interests –
Nickisan aspiringphotographerinhisspare time andalsotakesa keeninterest incinematography.
He ispassionate aboutwhathe doesand soensureshisworkisto of highstandardwhichallowshim
to gainbetterreactions/attentionfromhisTA. Nicktherefore takesalikingtothe group’sinitial
ideasdue tothe cinematicshotsandlightinginwhichwe aspire touse whichsignifiesthatourmusic
shouldbe receivedwell byourtargetaudience andallow themtointerpretthe songashow the
videodepictsit.
Other Interests –
In conclusion tothisTA Memberprofile, the ideasinwhichthe grouphave alreadyandcontinue to
expandonare suitable tothe TA and are relative tothe genre inwhichwe have acquired. The
themesexploredmake sense tothe songandthe ideaof the videobeingcinematicis alsofittingto
the song andwill ensure thatthe piece istoa highstandard. The ideaof identificationalsosignifies
that the majorityof the TA will be able topotentiallyrecognisethemselveswithinthe situationsour
actor and actressdoesand so allowsthemtoexplore throughathought-provokingsongandgenre.
