2. HOW HELPFUL WAS YOUR SECONDARY
RESEARCH ON YOUR CHOSEN THEME?
Our secondary research was very effective in helping our documentary become very interesting
and fascinating to watch. This is because we were able to research some debatable scenes in
reality TV on the internet and on platforms such as YouTube which could be classed as over
dramatized. Through this we included these scenes into our documentary so that people are
not just aware but there could be a debate within the audience.
3. Our pre-production process was extremely helpful which contributed
massively to our final piece of documentary. This process was the base
and format of our documentary and without it we would have be screwed
as a group. Our pre-production consisted of recees, a script, time and date
of shoots, risk assessments, roles in the production team and release
forms. This gave our group a solid platform to work with for our
documentary and this helped very much because we were able to shoot
all our scenes smoothly just simply because we were organised.
4. How successful was your production (filming)?
I thought at first it may be difficult to find people in our target audience
criteria to interview, but actually it wasn't that difficult as we managed to
interview a numerous amount of people in LSC our location for the
documentary. People were giving back good responses and feedback to
our questions which made our filming smooth and drastic. We used a mic
attached to our camera to make voices clearer when watching it back.
5. Strengths and Weaknesses of our interviews?
Our strengths in our documentary was that we were able to gather a lot of information
into people's aspects and opinions on Reality TV being dramatised and adding it into
an entertaining documentary. Another strength was that during the course of the
production our group worked as a team, this made us very organised and made things
run smoothly. Everyone had one goal which was to produce an entertaining
documentary. I would say one of our weaknesses was timing. We didn't spend enough
time filming which made us only take one type of shot. Sometimes our camera was
slanted so the shots were not straight. Another weakness was that we didn't take a
variety of shots such as shot reverse shot which you would commonly see in real life
documentaries. We tended to have the same shot through the majority which made it a
bit dull. Lastly as a group we were not flexible enough. Yes we filmed shots in different
locations but we didn't move around or include a bit of action to really bring this
documentary alive and I feel that's what we were missing.
6. FEEDBACK
Positives
Variety of people
Variety of presenters
Sound worked well as we used a microphone and headset
Transition were nice
Lighting good
Negatives
Took more time on editing
7. What improvements could we have made?
To improve our documentary, we could include a soundtrack, this would
not only keep the audience entertained but also make our documentary
more effective to watch. We could also add transition in our documentary
which would make our documentary a lot smooth and also effective
because we didn't really have transitions from scene to scene which didn't
give it life. We could also have used a variety of different shots such as long
shots, medium shots, close ups and shot reverse shots so we could have
had more detail in facial expressions and surroundings. We could have used
more time in editing and in filming to try to make it as similar to a real
documentary.
