1. The Book
Evaluation of Strengths and Weaknesses
Pre-Production
We worked well as a team because we were all mature about how we approached the pre-
production of the film we was making. We were each given a specific role in the production of our
film we decided between ourselves who was going to do what. We agreed that I would direct, Sam
would act, Katie would record the sound and Harrison would film. We decided basedon our
strengths which role we were best suited to. We were very well organised in terms of planning out
what we wanted the storyline of our film to be. We held regular meetings and discussed together. I
think the fact that we were all reliable helped us get our film on the way.
Production
What helped a lot during the production of our film was that we are all good at our chosen roles in
making the film. This enabled us to produce a film without any issues or difficulty. When we were
out on location filming we only encountered one slight problem which was with the sound recorder
not picking up ambient sounds from our location. However we just went back another day and re-
recorded the sounds we needed. With us only having one minor problem I think this shows that we
worked well as a team and all stuck to our roles. Because we had organised and planned together
what the story of our film was going to be and that we all agreed about it we knew exactly what we
were doing when filming
Post-Production
After we had finished filming for our film we each did an edited version with the clips put together to
tell our story. The shot composition of our film is good although some scenes could be classed as
poor because the camera shakes to show the perspective of Charlie running. My edited version of
our film uses a lot of colour correction to emphasise certain scenes which are filmed in the
perspective of the Monster. I also key framed a shape which I had made in Photoshop; I did this to
make it look like some kind of target ability the monster has to make the film more surreal and make
believe. I used numerous dip to black transitions in my film to help tell the story and make it more
fluent and understandable. Continuity plays a big part in my film because it is used to shows the two
perspectives of Charlie and the Monster. Throughout the film when Charlie is walking through the
woods continuity editing is used to show the progression of my film. Our group has used music at
different beats and paces of speed to build intensity and tension throughout.
Summary
During the making of my film I have had to use many skills. These skills include proper usage of
cameras, tripods and editing techniques such as transitions, colour corrections and key framing.
Creativity has had to be shown in order to record and edit successfully.
2. Conclusion
If I was to make this a short film again I would try to have more involvement in the production of it,
the reason for this being that when you come to edit someone else’s ideas it is much more difficult
to process successful and interesting editing which also helps to tell the story. I think overall we
worked well as a team and have made an eye catching film.
