2. Emotion
● Within the 2 minute film, the emotions we focus on are fear and paranoia.
● These link to our 5-10 minute piece as Milo will still be experiencing these
underneath the broader emotion of survivor’s guilt.
● Fear and paranoia will be shown through significantly through
cinematography and sound. As the sound intensifies in the two minute piece,
as will the image.
● This will illustrate the build of these emotions within our protagonist Milo.
3. Role: Producer
● Found our actors
● Organised the shooting schedule to make sure everybody was available and
how we would get to the location
● Went on the location shoot to assess whether it was suitable
● Assisted with cinematography whilst Molly was occupied with make-up,
mostly got environmental footage.
● Helped Dominic with editing to create a film that represented our initial
ideas and the emotions we wished to initially explore.
4. Role: Director
● Responsible for creating the ‘vision’ of the film
● Working with every team member to create coherence through the film and
ensure the overall vision is achieved
● Came on location shoot to make sure location worked well within the idea of
the scene
● Worked closely with produce to achieve vision in a realistic way with
minimum cost/risk
● Directed/positioned actors on set and coordinate the way in which the film
carried out
● Writing script for 5-10 minute
5. Role: Director of Photography
● I worked with the director in creating the storyboard for the two minute
piece. This is when we decided what type of shots were used.
● From this I created the shot list as well.
● The idea of extreme close-ups creating a build up was one of the main
decisions made in order to increase the tension when watching the 2 minute
piece.
● I also booked out the equipment needed for the shoot: Canon 5D, Standard
Tripod, 16-35mm lens and a 50mm lens.
6. Role: Sound
● I recorded and edited ambient sounds to use for the environment Milo is in
● Together with the director and editor I discussed the overall style of the sound
design
● For the shoot I wrote a sound list to sort out the sounds needed for the film
● I created a 2-minute sound design, based on sounds recorded on set (breathing,
finger clipping), drone sounds and distorted synthesizer sounds, using ProTools
and Logic Pro X to underline Milo’s emotional state
7. Role: Editor
● Made sure that the mood of the film was conveyed through colour grading, giving
a surreal, dreamlike feel.
● Spoke to Harry and Joe about the editing process to ensure that my edit depicted
the intended ideas and emotion effectively.
● Worked closely with Tim in order for the visuals to complement the audio of the
piece.
● Began the edit with a slow pace to set the scene, and gradually increased the pace
throughout in order to build tension and reflect Milo’s mental state.
8. Strengths
● The makeup was appeared very professional done and looked excellent on
the actors
● The sound designed by Tim was also very moody and fitting for the piece, the
long drone, and buildup worked wonders with our footage
● The location - The abandoned house screams horror film plus it was easy to
get to
● Got professional actors
9. Weaknesses
● Makeup understandably took a long time resulting in some waiting around
for the actors and slow start to production
● Not a lot of movement in camera shots
● One extra did not turn up - had to use Dom
10. 5-10 minute film
● The emotion of survivor's guilt will be further developed in our 5-10 minute
film because the film shows Milo’s emotional experience from immediately
after the murders to as far as a week later.
● The emotions of fear and paranoia will still be prevalent and shown through
hallucinations that Milo experience which also act as flashbacks to the
events that happened that fateful night
