AS media evaluation
Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute
your product and why?
• There are currently a lot of mainstream and well known institutions that distribute thriller
films, some being: Universal, Lionsgate and Summit.
• Universal : Drag me to hell, The Unborn, The Strangers
• Lionsgate : American Psycho, The Day After Tomorrow
• Summit : Hurt locker, Sorority row
Working Title Films
• All 3 mentioned institutions are among the most notorious for distributing
thrillers which in a sense would make all 3 of them applicable to distribute
our film.
• Working Title films would also be ideal, it is a subsidiary institution of
Universal and is the oldest movie studio still in use, if we used this institution
to distribute, we would be using an institution that has a lot of experience in
the film industry and distributing films of a variety of genres and types.
Paramount Pictures
• During my research I discovered Paramount Pictures was the second oldest
movie studio still in use which, like Working Title, would provide us with a
studio that has a lot of experience in distributing films. They would know
how to grab people’s attention through adverts, blogs, magazines etc. to
make people see the film and talk about it with their friends/family etc.
• Paramount Pictures however only distributes big budget American films
which does not fit our criteria, so we would use Working Title Films.
Advertising
• Another thing we could do to distribute our film is to advertise on free user
content sites such as Youtube and Vimeo which would allow the public to
easily access our trailer and advertising campaigns.
• Another idea would be to use social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter
and even Instagram to publicise our film.
