Eat More Weigh Less By Dr. Dean Ornish
The diet book I choose was "Eat More Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. This diet has no time
frame, you can use this diet until you have met the desired weight. Most people don't want to give
up eating junk food, but maybe with this diet you can eat something healthy that tastes equally as
satisfying. Also, these recipes will definitely keep someone feeling refreshed and satisfied. On page
106 of the book, Dr. Ornish gives his readers a sample week of foods. I thought this was a great way
for people to experiment his diet without feeling like they have continue it until it's "end date". For
Day 1 of the diet he suggests that for breakfast people trying the diet should eat cold cereal, nonfat
yogurt, fresh berries, orange juice, and a warm beverage. For this meal, people obviously have to
monitor the types of food that they will intake. Someone can eat cold cereal, however they can pick
a cereal that contains large amounts of sugar. For this I would suggest that they choose organic
foods for a better outcome. Continuing on for the day, at lunch he recommends having a stuffed
baked potato, broccoli, potato, and chick–pea salad with lemon–tarragon dressing, a tossed green
salad, and fresh fruit. This a loaded with carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins. Finally, he suggests
eating bruschetta with sun dried tomatoes and capers, pasta with red peppers, greens, white beans,
garlic, and lemon zest, grilled asparagus, with lemon, peppers, and caper vinaigrette, a tossed green
salad,

Mrs. W's Diet: A Case Study
When preparing a diet for Mrs. W, it is important to remember that she will need to prepare the
meals on her own as her husband will be away for months at a time and her daughter will be at
school. While Mrs. W is undergoing cancer treatment reheating meals prepared in advance allows
Mrs. W to be independent at mealtime.
It is recommended to drink a minimum of eight 6 oz glasses of water throughout the day ensuring
good circulation in the body. Water is readily available at all times.
Breakfast is served with Weetabix, flax seed, blueberries, and almond milk served with a half of a
grapefruit and a cup of coffee.
Whole grain fiber for breakfast aids in steadying blood sugar levels by slowing down the absorption
of sugars so that your body can keep up with processing them. ... Show more content on

Blueberries are a source of essential vitamins and minerals, have natural phytonutrients which are
good for brain health by increasing dopamine, and ellagic acid, which encourages a healthy rate of
apoptosis assisting in destroying cancer cells.
Almond Milk is low in sodium, high in healthy fats, a source of essential vitamins, minerals, and
fiber. It is low in carbohydrates, and lactose–free.
Grapefruit while high in Vitamin C, and antioxidants, it contains lycopene which appears to have
antitumor activity. The content of phytonutrients may prevent cancerous cells from proliferating.
Lunch consists of Salata Baladi with dressing, Red Lentil Soup with Granary Bread with Green tea

Processing Evidence-Based Decision-Making
One thing we know is hard when making a decision is having bias therefore if practicing evidence–
based decision making you would have the best data to and evidence to create your choice with and
without bias (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). I feel if this evidence–based decision making was used
before the cheaper well was purchased this could have been avoided altogether. In this model, there
are five steps to process the information before making the decision (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). You
must identify the setback or prospect, gather information about the problem and evaluate, gather
information from outside research, gather information from stakeholders and ponder ethical
repercussions, collaborate all data together and make an informed decision

Nutrition Tips for Runners
Nutrition Tips for Runners
Energy requirement differs from person to person and those that are physically active demands
higher energy than an average person. Runners, in particular require a balance nutrition to keep their
energy up and to avoid any stress–related injuries. Conscientious runners strive for a well–balanced
diet, but even for them, there is always a possibility of missing out on key nutrients. Here are several
nutrition tips that can help in improving performance and recovery:
Mix things up during meal time
Eating same foods every day can be boring, thus try to mix up different food choices. Pasta has
always been a staple in every runner's diet, but there are other interesting choices for runners such as
rice, beans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also helps in releasing energy into the bloodstream at a slower rate that provides sustained energy
throughout the run. Carbohydrates also aid in muscle recovery, which lowers the risk of muscle–
related injuries. Good sources of complex carbohydrates include whole grain bread and pasta, high–
fiber cereal, vegetables, beans, lentils, quinoa and barley.
Protein – Runners often focused on consuming carbohydrates, thus they often forget their need for
protein. This essential nutrient aids in both tendon and muscle tissue repair, which is usually
damaged during training. Protein can be found in certain food such fish, poultry, lean meat, beans,
low–fat milk, egg whites and soy foods.
Glucose – Drinks containing glucose are best consumed within 15 minutes after workout. During
this period, the muscles are more receptive in packing up fuel. It is also absorbed rapidly into the
bloodstream, which accelerates the recovery and rehydration process.
Water – Proper hydration is essential in keeping the body systems in good working condition. Water
should be the main source of fluid for the body, especially before long runs. You can try alternating
it with sports drinks during and after long runs. Avoid caffeine and alcohol because it can cause
further dehydration. Herbal teas and fruit juices can be counted as fluids, but make sure that water is
consumed evenly throughout the day.
Fats – It is healthier to obtain fat calories from

Creating A Garden Labyrinth For Ancient Andean Indian...
Labyrinths have been around for many centuries. From early Celts to India to ancient Andean Indian
mountain cultures, labyrinths have been a spectacle and wonder for as long as humans have
wandered this planet. Creating a garden labyrinth can be as simple as the early Celts most common
labyrinths or as complex as the Nazca lines. Creating a garden labyrinth begins with a good layout.
Since a labyrinth isn 't like a maze with any deceiving traps or dead ends–using a linear measuring
device is recommended. What do I mean by linear measuring device? Simply put, a rope, chain,
garden hose electrical cord or other easily measurable line. By using a linear measurement, you can
quickly gauge an estimate of the amount of materials you will need for creating a garden labyrinth.
Layout the garden hose, electrical cord, rope, chain–whatever you use–from a starting point. Now
begin walking a path from start to finish. It 's really that simple. However there are so many choices
available, you may not know where to begin. Most labyrinths begin from the outside of a pattern,
circuit, rosette, flower petal, symbol or some kind of uniform design. While I 'm not saying every
labyrinth has to be concentric and uniform–you can create a garden labyrinth completely abstract–
what I am saying is uniform labyrinths are more typical and that is what this article will mostly
emphasize. Another common feature that bonds labyrinths is that while they start from the outside,
they usually end up in

As a chef, I realized that I have learned many things while cooking foods. However, I did not know

pay attention to many countries foods.
My project topic is Morocco cuisine. Morocco which is adjacent to between Indian Ocean and

only multiple cultures but the culture of food also is developed since invasion from many countries.
Furthermore, Morocco is famous for court cuisine as influence of kingdom and very impressive

The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language
Out of my six–year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying
only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the
repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain
level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I
would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non–native speakers in order to improve the
students' acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my
classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable
that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the
learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this
reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student' learning attitude from off–class communications
with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity
to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional
learning setting by visiting Arabic–speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging
them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer
students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations,

Family Tribe : The Wedding Traditions Of The Bafia Tribe
The Bafia Tribe: The Bafia Tribe was a tribe that believed in many strange wedding traditions.
However, this tradition is not alive, or believed in any more. When this tradition was still quite alive
and well, the Bafia tribe believed that whenever a young woman was captured she was proclaimed
as married. Unlike any other tribe the captor never made himself known to others and never offered

During the tradition, there would be two families that were getting married. These two families
would exchange brides. The new bride will go and live with the husband's senior wife, or also

The Bamileke Tribe: Unlike the other tribes this tradition is still alive and well. At birth a young girl
can and most likely will be betrothed. At the exact age of 15 the young woman will get married to
the assigned husband. The future husband will pay what is called bride wealth. This consists of

The Comback of Global Warming
The Comeback of Global Warming
(Global Warming vs. the environmental "solutions")
Who could turn or live back 50 decades ago without technologic advances, mass media invention
and the most important pure air? Sometimes I spend time with my grandmother who lives in the
interior of the island of Puerto Rico and I enjoy what she tells me her stories about her youth and the
environment where she was surrounded. Suddenly she expresses me how she misses living in those
times, when she used to go to the rivers to pass the day in the water or in simple a fun water puddle,
enjoying the nature.
It's sad and lamentable what we have to see and hear about the damage of our planet. How Mother

provides real economic relieve at its users. Simple technologic that should be imitated, installing
that system where it can be possible around the globe!
The government plans should be conscious about people's needs and concert, trying to choice better
options, unfortunately I have to think that sometimes we don't know if the remedy than the sickness

The Breakfast Club By John Hughes
In John Hughes' smash 1985 film, The Breakfast Club, five teenagers from different social cliques
spend a Saturday together in detention. There is the jock, whose identity is wrapped up in athletic
achievement. There is the nerd, who is book smart and socially awkward. There is the moody basket
case who wears black and broods about death. There is the equally moody rebel, who smokes and
swears and defies authority. And there is the princess, whose clothes are hot, whose manners are
cold, and whose lunch speaks volumes about the rarified social atmosphere in which she moves.
While the others bring sandwiches – if they bring anything at all – she brings sushi, elegantly
arranged on a fragile Japanese dish. The others don't even recognize what she's eating, and when she
explains what sushi is – "rice, raw fish and seaweed" – the rebel mocks her for her willingness to eat
it.
Using food to trace the rigidly hierarchical world of American teen culture, the scene expects the
audience to see sushi as fundamentally alien, exclusive and unappetizing. The Breakfast Club asserts
that sushi–eating symbolizes a distasteful elitism that we all recognize, but that we do not ourselves
create, maintain or like.
Such symbolism would never work today. In the short decades since Hughes' hit film, sushi has
become a staple of American culture, a familiar, accessible and immensely desirable food that can
be found in supermarket aisles and fast food outlets as well as high–end restaurants. Far

Millet's Impact On The Ancient World
Millet is a crop that has a lot of health benefits, has protein, lasts a long time, matures quickly, and
can grow in dry environments with poor soil. For some civilizations in Africa, East Asia, India, and
Europe, this was a perfect crop. Starting in 8,000 BCE, millet quickly spread around Africa and the
Eurasian supercontinent, becoming one of the most commonly eaten grains in the world. India alone
produces over 8 million tons of millet yearly. There is no denying that millet had a huge impact on
civilizations of the ancient world that still affects us to this day. Millet is a grain that has many
variations, but all of them have many of the same characteristics. Millet is high in protein, fiber, and
B– vitamins. It was very filling, and needs very little water and fertile soil to grow. It is also gluten –
free, which has increased its popularity recently. Protein made it filling, so you didn't need a lot of it
per meal, which also increased the abundance. 10,000 years ago, broomtail millet (Panicum
miliaceum) became domesticated in North China. This area was cold and dry, so it was perfect for
millet, which thrives at an average of 6 – 10℃ and a mean annual 350 – 550 millimeters of rain ...

provided food surplus for civilizations that could not be as complex without it. Without millet, we

The Health Of The Healthcare Footprint
The healthcare footprint is defined as, "the actions and decisions that impact the health of people
worldwide" (Health, 2009). The environment, economics and political willpower are all
cornerstones of the healthcare footprint. Health is a generally broad term used to describe much
more than just a person's physical well–being; it also includes a person's mental and social well–
being. All of these well–beings extend beyond if someone is ill or not going to the dentist. Issues
like access to clean drinking water, funding clinics and triaging individuals relate to the healthcare
footprint (Health, 2009). One significant concern is that improvements in medicine and healthcare
are not equitably spread across all countries––poorer countries (like those in Africa) lack modern
advances and deal with extra challenges like Ebola and increasing cases of HIV/AIDS. Another
concern about health care is that the political realm of governments control how budgets are spent
and more specifically if people can have equal access to care when illness strikes and preventable
care to avoid disease.
There are more factors contributing to health care including an individual 's ecological footprint.
Researchers In 2011, McMichael and Butler found that there many relations between people's lives
and both their ecological and health care footprints. Here are some highlights:
There is a positive relationship between a person's level of affluence and their health.

Egyptian Cuisine During The Arab Republic Of Egypt
The unique Egyptian cuisine has been influenced throughout history, particularly by its neighbors
from the Middle East. Those contries that have influenced include Persians (modern–day Iraqis),
Greeks, Romans (modern–day Italians), Arabs, and Ottomans (from modern–day Turkey) first
influenced Egyptian cuisine thousands of years ago. More recently, the foods of other Arabic people
in the Middle East such as the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, as well as some foods from Europe,
have affected the Egyptian diet.
Rice and bread remain staple foods, and molokhiyya(a spinach–like vegetable) and ful mudammas
(cooked, creamy fava beans), a national dish.
The Arab Republic of Egypt is located in the northeastern region of the African continent, bordering
both the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The climate is extremely dry and most of the country receives
less than one inch of rainfall each year. The widespread lack of rainfall makes it extremely difficult
to grow crops. Egypt has no forests and only 2 percent of the land is arable.
The Nile River, the longest river in the world, runs north and south through eastern Egypt and
empties into the Mediterranean Sea. Approximately 95 percent of the country 's population lives
alongside the Nile River. This is why the Egyptian cuisine is so high in fish.

Can A Social Movement Be Fundamentally Flawed? Essay
Can a social movement be fundamentally flawed? Most people would answer "yes," pointing to
National Socialism or the Ku Klux Klan. However, few would consider the German New Left to
epitomize a flawed social movement. According to history professor Dagmar Herzog, they should.
Throughout her publication Sex After Fascism, Herzog disputes this central argument of the New
Left: "Numerous New Leftists argued directly that sexuality and politics were causally linked;
convinced that sexual repression produced racism and fascism, they proposed that sexual
emancipation would further social and justice" (2). Although the baby boomers equated sex with
anti–fascism, presuming that the Nazis had created the sexually repressive environment, Herzog
argues that the repressive environment was actually established in reaction to National Socialism.
The most homicidal regime in history was more sexually liberal than the New Left conceived (3).
What Herzog overlooks, however, is that not all baby boomers succumbed to this fundamental
misconception, as evidenced by the 1974 feature film Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. Written and directed
by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the film depicts a romance between Emmy–who's an elderly German
widow–and the title character–who's a Moroccan guest worker. Throughout Ali, Emmy faces
prejudice for being in an interracial relationship, but as film theorist Thomas Wartenberg argues, the
film is far from sympathetic to the elderly widow. In fact, Fassbinder's film

State of Mind Affects Macbeth Essay
In court, a criminal will commonly make the statement that they were in the wrong state of mind
when they committed the crime, to lessen their punishment. In fact, a person's state of mind can
affect their actions, and the actions of others towards them. Authors commonly use a persons state of
mind to embellish actions of a character or to better explain changes in the character. William
Shakespeare uses state of mind to assist in the degeneration of the protagonist Macbeth in the
tragedy Macbeth. Macbeth is a brave, loyal and strong Scottish general in the Middle Ages, more
specifically the eleventh century, who despite his power on the battlefield was swayed easily to the
tragic life of a murderer by the three predictions of three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In other words, Duncan is Macbeth's king and his guest, therefore Macbeth should be preventing
murderers from reaching Duncan instead of murdering Duncan himself. At this point in the play
Macbeth's state of mind is confused, his hunger for power wants him to murder Duncan but his
conscious goes against it. The fact that his couscous still goes against murder means the
degeneration of his character has not begun, yet in the rising action this loyalty disappears. With
Duncan on his way to Inverness Macbeth's wife persuades Macbeth to follow through with the
murder so that he can be King and live a wonderful life. It is at this point in the story that Macbeth
under goes his start into his character degeneration. In a second soliloquy, after Macbeth has just
been convinced by his wife to follow through with the murder, he see an imaginary dagger covered
with blood. He feels that this is a sign that he should go through with the murdering of Duncan. His
thirst for power then drives him to pull out his own dagger; "I see thee yet, in form as palpable As
this which now I draw. Thou marshall'st me the way that I was going, And such an instrument I was
to use"(II, I, 40–43). Macbeth' state of mind in this soliloquy has changed from the last soliloquy a
great deal, reflecting his start into degeneration. Macbeth has gone from confused and indecisive to
crazed and power hungry. After committing the murder of Duncan Macbeth is

A Maize Civilization : A Corn Civilization
A maize civilization Until the 19th century, the culinary tradition of the Brazilian Southeast was
mostly influenced by the Portuguese cuisine and the food habits of the various Brazilian indigenous
peoples and of the numerous African nations that were forcibly brought here by the slavery. After
the arrive, in large numbers, of immigrants of many nationalities – such as Japanese, Lebanese,
Italians, Spaniards and Germans there is a sudden and considerable increase in Brazilian
gastronomic heterogeneity, especially in the city of São Paulo, at a reduced period of time. This
modernization process, induced by the populational and geographical growth of the city of São
Paulo, led to persecuting of some food habits, such as the commercialization of food in the streets
and even to the traditional menu of this type of commerce, which was heavily based on the corn,
called 'iguarias do bugre'[i]. This cuisine was strongly influenced by the indigenous culinary culture,
offering delicacies such as içás (a type of ant that would be fried and eaten with farofa, that is the
cassava flour or the corn flour boiled or roasted), roasted pinhão (the seed of the Pinheiro–
brasileiro), corn cakes, cuscuz (a type of couscous) and others.[ii] Studying the São Paulo society of
the Colonial period, Sérgio Buarque de Holanda devoted a chapter, 'Civilização do Milho', to the
role of the corn at the Brazilian food culture during this period; and another chapter to the 'iguarias

Cultural Differences In America
Through the course, I learned about several pairs of different communities: Germans and Austrians,
Austrian and Hungarians, Hungarians and Yugoslavians, and Croatians and Serbians. These
communities separated themselves from each other through various aspects, including language,
religion, cultural practices, history, ethnicity. In all the communities I was most interested in the
community division between constituent republics in Former Yugoslavia, especially the division
between Serbs and Croats. Serbian and Croatian communities share many elements. They both live
in the Balkan Peninsula. They are both Slavs. Also, the language difference is very small. Croatian

The connections between different communities shrink rapidly when national border is involved. I
share fewer elements with a Korean, a Indian or a British than I do with a Chinese from other
regions. As a result, I have fewer checks and concerns when criticizing the foreign community
elements. For example, since Korean pop culture disgusts me, I don't like people who are interested
in K–pop. However, I feel and show the disgust differently when facing people from different
nationalities. If the person is an American, Korean, more generally a non–Chinese, the disgust at the
person is much stronger and I am more likely to express my disgust. In contrary, if the person is a
Chinese, there might not be any disgust at all and I rarely express it. Similarly, I prefer a Chinese
who loves soccer than a British who has the same habit. It seems that I have a grading standard of a
similarity score of a person. It is calculated by weighing the values of the similarities and differences
between me and the person. The higher the score is, the less likely there will be hostility between us.
Since a foreigner and I have fewer similarities, he/she generally does not have a high similarity
score. The one community element on which I have strong option, becomes the main determinant of

George Orwell's 1984 ~ An Examination of Controlling Governments There is a place where
privacy is not available, your thoughts are not yours, and a schedule is made for you. The life you
are living is made up and all a lie. In the Novel 1984, George Orwell establishes a theme that the
government intentions are not benevolent but self–serving. Orwell creates a government that
controls the citizens to hold onto power. To start, Orwell establishes a setting where the government
is in full control of its citizens. Oceania is a place that is surrounded in propaganda, trying to fill the
citizen's heads of slogans and facts told by Big Brother. There is a Main slogan posted on the corner

The Citizens of Oceania do not live their lives by making their own decisions. They have a set
schedule, made by the party that is to be followed day to day. Orwell wrote, "It was nearly eleven
hundred, and in the Records Department, where Winston worked, they were dragging the chairs out
of the cubicles and grouping them in the center of the hall opposite the big telescreen, in preparation
for the Two Minutes Hate." (1984 Online Text). This explains that Winston is at work when the
party members are setting up for the scheduled two minutes of hate. Everyone must attend this event
that hates on the same character. While in the assembly, they are all told to chant hate slogans at this
image on the telescreen. Orwell Wrote, "At this moment the entire group of people broke into a
deep, slow, rhythmical chant of 'B–B! . . . B–B!'– Over and over again, very slowly, with a long
pause between the first 'B' and the second" (1984 Online Text). If the Citizens do not participate in
the chant, the telescreen will notice and point you out. There is a punishment for not participating in
the events. There is not a space you can go without being seen by a telescreen. It's either participate
in the parties activities or be caught by the thought police for doing something different. Orwell
wrote, "The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of
shutting it off completely."

The Physiology Of Weight Determination
However, it is also true that a person becomes heavier than what she aims to be in different ways.
Therefore, since people gain weight in different unique ways, dieting should also be based on how
you gain weight. If we are to discuss the physiology of weight determination, this is based on the
idea that we gain weight when the energy of our calorie intake exceeds our energy use. But we
should know that we burn calories in exercise, the digestion of food and the "basal metabolic rate"
or BMR which is the calories we burn when we are resting. Standard results show that our BMR
declines as we age. Given this fact, we can infer that a person sustains the same amount of calorie
intake and ways of exercising as he or she ages, that individual will gain weight (Goldfarb, Leonard
and Suranovic). What are the causes of dieting? There are six reasons why people succumb to
dieting. We have aging–associated, disease–provoked, physical–life–events–provoked, style–
provoked, smoking–cessation and innovation–provoked dieting. These causes are also dependent to
the determinants of weight production which includes basal metabolism which are uniquely affected
by the age and gender, appetite and other factors affecting calorie intake. What causes you to lose
weight? There are three important features of weight and utility which are negative health effects,
appearances effects and increase in task costs. For negative health effects, we have shorter life span,
poorer health, and an increase

Yes you heard me right! Does a low carbohydrate diet play a role in stabilizing mood disorders
including depression? Or maybe I should phrase it like this; do ketones play a role in our brain–
energy profile?
What are ketones?
Let me explain the above sentence a bit further. When we eat carbohydrates our bodies break it
down into glucose. This passes the blood brain barrier and fuels our brain. Our bodies always opt to
use glucose as an energy source before they use another source of fuel.
When we cut out carbohydrates from our diets we cannot use glucose as a fuel source. So our bodies
start to process the protein and fat that we eat instead. It processes these proteins and fats into
ketones.
These ketones can also be used as fuel and can also pass the blood brain barrier. And this different
type of fuel to the brain appears to alter it.
Why are ketones working?
One of the best known effects of a ketogenic diet is its remarkable effect on seizures in epileptic
patients. Some people have actually become seizure free while others have a substantial reduction

My favorite topic from this weeks reading was the description of the Knossos palace complex. It
astonishes me that the Minoan civilization was able to build a palace with multiple stories, flat roofs,
and many columns. Even in todays times it's not easy to build a huge multistory palace. In fact if the
recreation shown in the book looks anything like the original palace then it seems to me like we
have kept similar designs over all of these years. My initial thoughts about it was that it reminded
me of one of the dormitories at my school. It also amazes me how they moved around all of the
materials for the palaces since they didn't have the advanced machinery of today. Aside from the

Benefits Of A Gluten Free Diet
People that are recovering from addiction often try to promote better health with unique diets. The
increasingly popular gluten–free diet is just one of them. This diet, originally a way to treat the
immune disease Celiac disease, has become one of the most popular (and controversial) diets on the
market. Trying to eat a gluten–free diet in drug rehabilitation is a noble goal, but it can be tricky.
However, if you have Celiac disease, you obviously are going to have to learn how to live without
gluten during rehabilitation. But if you 're simply interested in experiencing the many benefits of a
gluten–free diet, you 're going to need a little education on how to get started. You 're also going to
have to know how to find drug rehabilitation clinics that utilize gluten free diets.
Benefits of a Gluten–Free Diet The first advantage of a gluten–free diet is obvious: it helps treat
diseases that react negatively to gluten. During your drug rehabilitation treatment, this will be
essential: you 're going to need to be in great health to fight off the symptoms of withdrawal.

a grain, it makes a terrific rice substitute that has the advantage of being more flavorful (nutty with

than rice.
Cream yeast – The closest form to the yeast slurries of the 19th century, being essentially a
suspension of yeast cells in liquid, siphoned off from the growth medium. Its primary use is in

Eat More Weigh Less By Dr. Dean Ornish

  • 1. Eat More Weigh Less By Dr. Dean Ornish The diet book I choose was "Eat More Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. This diet has no time frame, you can use this diet until you have met the desired weight. Most people don't want to give up eating junk food, but maybe with this diet you can eat something healthy that tastes equally as satisfying. Also, these recipes will definitely keep someone feeling refreshed and satisfied. On page 106 of the book, Dr. Ornish gives his readers a sample week of foods. I thought this was a great way for people to experiment his diet without feeling like they have continue it until it's "end date". For Day 1 of the diet he suggests that for breakfast people trying the diet should eat cold cereal, nonfat yogurt, fresh berries, orange juice, and a warm beverage. For this meal, people obviously have to monitor the types of food that they will intake. Someone can eat cold cereal, however they can pick a cereal that contains large amounts of sugar. For this I would suggest that they choose organic foods for a better outcome. Continuing on for the day, at lunch he recommends having a stuffed baked potato, broccoli, potato, and chick–pea salad with lemon–tarragon dressing, a tossed green salad, and fresh fruit. This a loaded with carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins. Finally, he suggests eating bruschetta with sun dried tomatoes and capers, pasta with red peppers, greens, white beans, garlic, and lemon zest, grilled asparagus, with lemon, peppers, and caper vinaigrette, a tossed green salad, ... • 5. Processing Evidence-Based Decision-Making One thing we know is hard when making a decision is having bias therefore if practicing evidence– based decision making you would have the best data to and evidence to create your choice with and without bias (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). I feel if this evidence–based decision making was used before the cheaper well was purchased this could have been avoided altogether. In this model, there are five steps to process the information before making the decision (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). You must identify the setback or prospect, gather information about the problem and evaluate, gather information from outside research, gather information from stakeholders and ponder ethical repercussions, collaborate all data together and make an informed decision ... • 7. Nutrition Tips for Runners Nutrition Tips for Runners Energy requirement differs from person to person and those that are physically active demands higher energy than an average person. Runners, in particular require a balance nutrition to keep their energy up and to avoid any stress–related injuries. Conscientious runners strive for a well–balanced diet, but even for them, there is always a possibility of missing out on key nutrients. Here are several nutrition tips that can help in improving performance and recovery: Mix things up during meal time Eating same foods every day can be boring, thus try to mix up different food choices. Pasta has always been a staple in every runner's diet, but there are other interesting choices for runners such as rice, beans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also helps in releasing energy into the bloodstream at a slower rate that provides sustained energy throughout the run. Carbohydrates also aid in muscle recovery, which lowers the risk of muscle– related injuries. Good sources of complex carbohydrates include whole grain bread and pasta, high– fiber cereal, vegetables, beans, lentils, quinoa and barley. Protein – Runners often focused on consuming carbohydrates, thus they often forget their need for protein. This essential nutrient aids in both tendon and muscle tissue repair, which is usually damaged during training. Protein can be found in certain food such fish, poultry, lean meat, beans, low–fat milk, egg whites and soy foods. Glucose – Drinks containing glucose are best consumed within 15 minutes after workout. During this period, the muscles are more receptive in packing up fuel. It is also absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream, which accelerates the recovery and rehydration process. Water – Proper hydration is essential in keeping the body systems in good working condition. Water should be the main source of fluid for the body, especially before long runs. You can try alternating it with sports drinks during and after long runs. Avoid caffeine and alcohol because it can cause further dehydration. Herbal teas and fruit juices can be counted as fluids, but make sure that water is consumed evenly throughout the day. • 9. Creating A Garden Labyrinth For Ancient Andean Indian... Labyrinths have been around for many centuries. From early Celts to India to ancient Andean Indian mountain cultures, labyrinths have been a spectacle and wonder for as long as humans have wandered this planet. Creating a garden labyrinth can be as simple as the early Celts most common labyrinths or as complex as the Nazca lines. Creating a garden labyrinth begins with a good layout. Since a labyrinth isn 't like a maze with any deceiving traps or dead ends–using a linear measuring device is recommended. What do I mean by linear measuring device? Simply put, a rope, chain, garden hose electrical cord or other easily measurable line. By using a linear measurement, you can quickly gauge an estimate of the amount of materials you will need for creating a garden labyrinth. Layout the garden hose, electrical cord, rope, chain–whatever you use–from a starting point. Now begin walking a path from start to finish. It 's really that simple. However there are so many choices available, you may not know where to begin. Most labyrinths begin from the outside of a pattern, circuit, rosette, flower petal, symbol or some kind of uniform design. While I 'm not saying every labyrinth has to be concentric and uniform–you can create a garden labyrinth completely abstract– what I am saying is uniform labyrinths are more typical and that is what this article will mostly emphasize. Another common feature that bonds labyrinths is that while they start from the outside, they usually end up in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language Out of my six–year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non–native speakers in order to improve the students' acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student' learning attitude from off–class communications with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional learning setting by visiting Arabic–speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations, and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Family Tribe : The Wedding Traditions Of The Bafia Tribe The Bafia Tribe: The Bafia Tribe was a tribe that believed in many strange wedding traditions. However, this tradition is not alive, or believed in any more. When this tradition was still quite alive and well, the Bafia tribe believed that whenever a young woman was captured she was proclaimed as married. Unlike any other tribe the captor never made himself known to others and never offered gifts in exchange for his wife. Sadly, but not surprisingly the mother, father, or the family in general never made a single effort to get the young girl or woman back. • 22. The Breakfast Club By John Hughes In John Hughes' smash 1985 film, The Breakfast Club, five teenagers from different social cliques spend a Saturday together in detention. There is the jock, whose identity is wrapped up in athletic achievement. There is the nerd, who is book smart and socially awkward. There is the moody basket case who wears black and broods about death. There is the equally moody rebel, who smokes and swears and defies authority. And there is the princess, whose clothes are hot, whose manners are cold, and whose lunch speaks volumes about the rarified social atmosphere in which she moves. While the others bring sandwiches – if they bring anything at all – she brings sushi, elegantly arranged on a fragile Japanese dish. The others don't even recognize what she's eating, and when she explains what sushi is – "rice, raw fish and seaweed" – the rebel mocks her for her willingness to eat it. Using food to trace the rigidly hierarchical world of American teen culture, the scene expects the audience to see sushi as fundamentally alien, exclusive and unappetizing. The Breakfast Club asserts that sushi–eating symbolizes a distasteful elitism that we all recognize, but that we do not ourselves create, maintain or like. Such symbolism would never work today. In the short decades since Hughes' hit film, sushi has become a staple of American culture, a familiar, accessible and immensely desirable food that can be found in supermarket aisles and fast food outlets as well as high–end restaurants. For some civilizations in Africa, East Asia, India, and Europe, this was a perfect crop. Starting in 8,000 BCE, millet quickly spread around Africa and the Eurasian supercontinent, becoming one of the most commonly eaten grains in the world. India alone produces over 8 million tons of millet yearly. There is no denying that millet had a huge impact on civilizations of the ancient world that still affects us to this day. Millet is a grain that has many variations, but all of them have many of the same characteristics. Millet is high in protein, fiber, and B– vitamins. It was very filling, and needs very little water and fertile soil to grow. It is also gluten – free, which has increased its popularity recently. Protein made it filling, so you didn't need a lot of it per meal, which also increased the abundance. 10,000 years ago, broomtail millet (Panicum miliaceum) became domesticated in North China. • 34. The Health Of The Healthcare Footprint The healthcare footprint is defined as, "the actions and decisions that impact the health of people worldwide" (Health, 2009). The environment, economics and political willpower are all cornerstones of the healthcare footprint. Health is a generally broad term used to describe much more than just a person's physical well–being; it also includes a person's mental and social well– being. All of these well–beings extend beyond if someone is ill or not going to the dentist. Issues like access to clean drinking water, funding clinics and triaging individuals relate to the healthcare footprint (Health, 2009). One significant concern is that improvements in medicine and healthcare are not equitably spread across all countries––poorer countries (like those in Africa) lack modern advances and deal with extra challenges like Ebola and increasing cases of HIV/AIDS. Another concern about health care is that the political realm of governments control how budgets are spent and more specifically if people can have equal access to care when illness strikes and preventable care to avoid disease. There are more factors contributing to health care including an individual 's ecological footprint. Researchers In 2011, McMichael and Butler found that there many relations between people's lives and both their ecological and health care footprints. However, few would consider the German New Left to epitomize a flawed social movement. According to history professor Dagmar Herzog, they should. Throughout her publication Sex After Fascism, Herzog disputes this central argument of the New Left: "Numerous New Leftists argued directly that sexuality and politics were causally linked; convinced that sexual repression produced racism and fascism, they proposed that sexual emancipation would further social and justice" (2). Although the baby boomers equated sex with anti–fascism, presuming that the Nazis had created the sexually repressive environment, Herzog argues that the repressive environment was actually established in reaction to National Socialism. The most homicidal regime in history was more sexually liberal than the New Left conceived (3). What Herzog overlooks, however, is that not all baby boomers succumbed to this fundamental misconception, as evidenced by the 1974 feature film Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. Written and directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the film depicts a romance between Emmy–who's an elderly German widow–and the title character–who's a Moroccan guest worker. Throughout Ali, Emmy faces prejudice for being in an interracial relationship, but as film theorist Thomas Wartenberg argues, the film is far from sympathetic to the elderly widow. If the person is an American, Korean, more generally a non–Chinese, the disgust at the person is much stronger and I am more likely to express my disgust. In contrary, if the person is a Chinese, there might not be any disgust at all and I rarely express it. Similarly, I prefer a Chinese who loves soccer than a British who has the same habit. It seems that I have a grading standard of a similarity score of a person. It is calculated by weighing the values of the similarities and differences between me and the person. The higher the score is, the less likely there will be hostility between us. Since a foreigner and I have fewer similarities, he/she generally does not have a high similarity score. The one community element on which I have strong option, becomes the main determinant of whether we are friends or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Orwell's 1984 ~ An Examination of Controlling Governments There is a place where privacy is not available, your thoughts are not yours, and a schedule is made for you. The life you are living is made up and all a lie. In the Novel 1984, George Orwell establishes a theme that the government intentions are not benevolent but self–serving. They have a set schedule, made by the party that is to be followed day to day. Orwell wrote, "It was nearly eleven hundred, and in the Records Department, where Winston worked, they were dragging the chairs out of the cubicles and grouping them in the center of the hall opposite the big telescreen, in preparation for the Two Minutes Hate." (1984 Online Text). This explains that Winston is at work when the party members are setting up for the scheduled two minutes of hate. Everyone must attend this event that hates on the same character. While in the assembly, they are all told to chant hate slogans at this image on the telescreen. Orwell Wrote, "At this moment the entire group of people broke into a deep, slow, rhythmical chant of 'B–B! . . . B–B!'– Over and over again, very slowly, with a long pause between the first 'B' and the second" (1984 Online Text). If the Citizens do not participate in the chant, the telescreen will notice and point you out. There is a punishment for not participating in the events. There is not a space you can go without being seen by a telescreen. It's either participate in the parties activities or be caught by the thought police for doing something different. Orwell wrote, "The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. The Physiology Of Weight Determination However, it is also true that a person becomes heavier than what she aims to be in different ways. Therefore, since people gain weight in different unique ways, dieting should also be based on how you gain weight. If we are to discuss the physiology of weight determination, this is based on the idea that we gain weight when the energy of our calorie intake exceeds our energy use. But we should know that we burn calories in exercise, the digestion of food and the "basal metabolic rate" or BMR which is the calories we burn when we are resting. Standard results show that our BMR declines as we age. Given this fact, we can infer that a person sustains the same amount of calorie intake and ways of exercising as he or she ages, that individual will gain weight (Goldfarb, Leonard and Suranovic). What are the causes of dieting? There are six reasons why people succumb to dieting. We have aging–associated, disease–provoked, physical–life–events–provoked, style– provoked, smoking–cessation and innovation–provoked dieting. These causes are also dependent to the determinants of weight production which includes basal metabolism which are uniquely affected by the age and gender, appetite and other factors affecting calorie intake. What causes you to lose weight? There are three important features of weight and utility which are negative health effects, appearances effects and increase in task costs. For negative health effects, we have shorter life span, poorer health, and an increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Does a low carbohydrate diet play a role in stabilizing mood disorders including depression? Or maybe I should phrase it like this; do ketones play a role in our brain– energy profile? What are ketones? Let me explain the above sentence a bit further. When we eat carbohydrates our bodies break it down into glucose. This passes the blood brain barrier and fuels our brain. Our bodies always opt to use glucose as an energy source before they use another source of fuel. When we cut out carbohydrates from our diets we cannot use glucose as a fuel source. So our bodies start to process the protein and fat that we eat instead. It processes these proteins and fats into ketones. These ketones can also be used as fuel and can also pass the blood brain barrier. And this different type of fuel to the brain appears to alter it. Why are ketones working? One of the best known effects of a ketogenic diet is its remarkable effect on seizures in epileptic patients. Some people have actually become seizure free while others have a substantial reduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It astonishes me that the Minoan civilization was able to build a palace with multiple stories, flat roofs, and many columns. Even in todays times it's not easy to build a huge multistory palace. In fact if the recreation shown in the book looks anything like the original palace then it seems to me like we have kept similar designs over all of these years. My initial thoughts about it was that it reminded me of one of the dormitories at my school. It also amazes me how they moved around all of the materials for the palaces since they didn't have the advanced machinery of today.
