Halfway Off The Balcony
"Halfway Off the Balcony" is a song from Big Sean's upcoming album I've Decided. The song has
one intro, three hooks, two verse, and one interlude. I found this song an overview of how Big Sean
has changed further into his career. For instance, in the hook Big Sean states; "I'm hangin' halfway
off the balcony Overthinkin' 'cause my job is way more than a salary" This line "I'm hangin' halfway
off the balcony", explains to the audience that Big Sean feels like he is on the verge of changing
himself. Furthermore, he is warning others that he is changing his way of thinking for the better.
Onto the next line of the hook he follows with "Overthinkin' cause my job is way more than a
salary", concluding that at his current position he is making more

Comparing All In Ally, Halfway Harry, And Don T Care Dave
For different people, there can be various types of ways to study and act in the classroom. Some
people react differently to how the teachers approach the lesson. Although some cannot comprehend
the complexity, others may understand it right off the bat. The different names for the types of
students in the classroom are: All in Ally, Halfway Harry, and Don't Care Dave. To say all students
act and learn alike is utterly disappointing to those who fall under the categories of All in Ally,
Halfway Harry, and Don't Care Dave. All in Ally is the person who makes the good grades, studies
constantly, and will probably do something big in the future. She is the person who takes every
single note the teacher gives and maybe even makes some notes of her own just for extra practice.
When it comes to paying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dave is the least favorite of the teachers. He is the student all the teachers talk about together after
school, and all the teachers wish they could just pass to send him along to the next grade. He does
not take any notes at all because he is too lazy. Dave does not even listen to the teacher because he
does not care what the teacher has to say about the lessons. He is the student who tries to distract
Ally and Harry and gets everybody off topic. He goofs around constantly with other students from
bell to bell and occasionally falls asleep during class sometimes. Dave is the student who has to be
moved to different seats all throughout the semester because he cannot stop talking to the other
students in the room and distracting them. He does not study at all because he never pays attention
in class long enough to write down any notes. Dave's tendency to not care about studying or making
good grades which results in him making mostly C's, D's, and F's. Dave is not the type to bring
home grades to his parents because he knows they will most likely not put the grades up on the
refrigerator door for everyone to

Learning A Whole New Language And Culture Halfway Through...
Learning a whole new language and culture halfway through fifth grade was torturous as a child just
beginning to start the puberty stage. Parents and teachers shifted from a friend to the enemy. Not
understanding the intentions of my parents and English As a Second Language teachers by giving
me workbooks for second and third graders, I, at the time, felt like they were just trying to keep me
behind the other regular English students. However, those frustrations were never conveyed since
communicating with other students, and especially faculty members, seemed even more arduous.
Thus, my vocabulary range is not as wide as most other people that speaks English as their first
language. This can be shown in the first paper I have written titled "Faster or Stronger" for the
course "Eng&101 English Composition I" instructed by Martha J. Nagel. In this paper, there was a
lot of repetition by using the same words multiple times throughout the essay to emphasize the
thesis (Wangadi). This type of repetition can cause readers to become disinterested in the paper
because even though it makes it easier for the reader to understand the argument, the lack of variety
in the choice of words makes the paper seem dull and too predictable. In the most recent paper
however, there were more variety in the vocabulary to still emphasize the thesis as well. Instead of
saying "biggest victims" repeatedly, "main victims" and "leading victims" were used to create a
variety that would still preserve

Halfway: A Short Story
THE CAMPING DISASTER "Where is he?" demanded Annabelle. Her wavy long strawberry
blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail so she looked even stricter than usual. Her deep sea of
freckles and bright blue eyes added a playful flair to her look. It was a bright sunny day and
Annabelle was waiting for her boyfriend Jackson. Brianne, her best friend, was pacing beside her,
muttering "He's usually not this late. He should be here by now." Annabelle was now more annoyed
than worried "Why? After a week of not seeing each other he is late for school! He knows how
much school means to me because its the one place I get to be me! If that's not bad enough, I said I

bear began to shimmer and glow. It began to change shape. Soon, standing in front of them was
Emma who was dazed and confused. They got up and brushed themselves off and hugged Emma,
then ran back and woke everyone up!!!! When everybody had heard the story they made a campfire
and sang songs, only Alex didn't join in. Finally Annabelle and Emma noticed Alex sitting with his

Alex was laughing too. After a few minutes of talking, Emma sat bolt upright sniffing the

Halfway Point Research Paper
Have you ever thought about how there are infinite halfway points? Between any two points there is
a halfway point. For example, say you are trying to walk to the door in the room that you are in.
There is a halfway point between you and that door. There is another halfway point between the new
point and the door and another halfway point between the newest point and the door, etc. This would
go on for an infinite amount of times. However, you will eventually get to the door, which is a finite
distance away. Therefore, when you add up infinitely many numbers, sometimes you can get a finite
answer. This process is called converging. Diverging, the opposite, will add up infinitely many
numbers and get an infinite answer. For example, what if you doubled the distance you walk instead
of halving it? You would go twice the distance to the door, and then quadruple the distance to the
door until you have reached an infinite distance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you approach infinity, the new numbers will only create a more precise number instead of
increasing its value. Think about adding 1/10 of a number over time. The summation would be equal
to 1.1111... the sum will never go past 1.12. There are some cases when a sum can diverge but not
be equal to infinity. If the function is negative, the sum can be equal to two numbers, which means
that the equation diverges to two different answers, but is not infinity. A similar case, where the
terms approach 0, but do not converge can be caused by the function (–1/2)^x. This would cause the
sum to approach zero but would not converge because the answers would be flip flopping between
positive and negative. We know that the answer goes to zero because when the function approaches
infinity, the terms get

The Purpose Of A Halfway Home
A long journey starts after one leaves a drug treatment center. It can be very dangerous for a person
to return to his or her normal life immediately after leaving a drug treatment center. People may
think that they are ready to go home, but they may be unable to cope with everyday stresses. That is
why halfway houses are becoming more popular.
A halfway house is a facility for recovering addicts that serves as a transitional environment. The
purpose of a halfway home is to help a person adjust to living in the outside world. Halfway homes
have many benefits. Below is a list of reasons that a halfway home is a better alternative to going
home right after leaving a drug treatment facility:

Halfway Houses
The early resurgence of halfway houses in the 1950s was due to the inability of institutional
corrections to effectively rehabilitate offenders and limit further criminal behavior (Latessa &
Smith, 2011). Therefore, halfway houses provided offenders transitional support to bridge the gap
between imprisonment and free society, and most early halfway houses focused on individualized
treatment, counseling, and substance abuse counseling, which conformed to the medical model used
in prisons (Latessa & Smith, 2011). Furthermore, the need for halfway houses garnered additional
attention from the federal government, and in 1965, the Prison Rehabilitation Act was enacted

305). Furthermore, halfway houses, or residential re–entry centers, facilitate reintegration by
offering a safe, structured, and supervised environment that provide employment counseling, job
placement, financial management assistance, and other programs and services (Watkins, 2017).
Additionally, halfway house placement can be used a sentencing alternative for low–risk offenders
or the mentally ill; however, we need to consider the effectiveness of halfway houses as a transition
or alternate sentencing option (Watkins, 2017). A study conducted by the Pennsylvania Corrections
Department revealed that 67 percent of inmates sent to halfway houses were rearrested within three
years, which was 7 percent higher than offenders who were released back to the streets with no
transitional support (Dolnick, 2014). Therefore, we need to evaluate whether it is more beneficial
and effective to increase programs, services, and treatment during incarceration than to continue to
invest money in residential re–entry

Police Brutality In 'Meet Me Halfway Milwaukee Stories'
I wrote my essay about police brutality and feminism because I felt the need to address these two
topics that are a part of today's conflicts. I am responding to those who cannot speak about both
issues. By writing this research paper, I hope people are informed about these two conflicts and
make a change within the society and improve it in better ways. As a person who lived in a
segregated and diverse city all her life, I experience and see many things that involves racism,
sexism, and police brutality. My exigence is to notify individuals how problems in the past are still
continuing in the present, to advise others how police brutality abuses their power and falsely accuse
victims, mainly the black community, of actions that they didn't do, and to apprise people that
sexism is perceive in ways that allow men to downgrade women. ... Show more content on

The article , "Police Violence and Citizen Crime Reporting in the Black Community" provided
useful evidence that helped me support my essay and explain more into depth and connect to the
book, "Meet Me Halfway; Milwaukee Stories" by Jennifer Morales. Nancy C.M. Hartsock's book
helped me gain new knowledge about feminism and apply it to the connection of both book and the
police brutality article. I am writing this essay towards the people who needs to be inform about
these issues even if they have never experience these problems, people should be more cautious of
what today's society is facing because it could affect the future in ways that will worsen the problem
. With this essay, larger purpose is to explain how racism still affects the black community as a
whole and how feminism is being discriminated. With the researched that I've done, many black
men are disproportionately being racially profiled and targeted by white police officers because of
their skin color and sexism and feminism is highly portrayed negatively that makes women look

Obstacles In Arjay And Gecko's The Juvie Three
As what Moliere said "The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it." Many people
have obstacles everyday, but it's not the obstacles these people face it's the ones they have overcome
that make their stories. Many things are obstacles but not all are the same. These two people named
Arjay and Gecko from the book The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman encountered multiple obstacle
throughout the book. Arjay and Gecko both were criminals but, Gecko did not want to be one, and
Arjay never meant to kill anyone. They both had to overcome multiple obstacles. The Juvie Three
By Gordon Korman has four main characters Terence, Arjay, Gecko, and their group leader
Mr.Healey. But the one that overcame the largest obstacle, was Arjay. Arjay is a 15 year old kid that
was charged with manslaughter and put into a halfway house. But the obstacle he had to overcome
were the people he was in the halfway house with, specifically Terence. Arjay is a strict rule
follower and did not want to be kicked out of the halfway house, and Terence was still getting in
trouble in the halfway house, so he said "I'm not going back inside because you can't keep your

was afraid of getting beat up. "He made the decision at right now–– today. To avoid a return visit to

Halfway Houses/Hawthorn Heights
As the need for increasingly punitive community–based sanctions grew, the demand for a greater
variety of programs and services became apparent, as did the importance of a more seamless
transition from total incapacitation to total freedom of prisoners re–entering society. A variety of
community corrections methods have developed over the years, one being the institution of halfway
houses. To adequately understand residential community corrections, one must consider the origins,
components, and effectiveness of halfway houses. Initially halfway houses in the United States were
operated by nonprofit organizations as a means for recently released prisoners to find their footing
upon re–entry. Between 1816 and 1930, the function of the ... Show more content on

residence, but are required to return to the facility as scheduled to be assessed on their progress.
(Alarid and Del Carmen 183–184) Certain key elements remain standard from program to program,
while others vary according to the needs of the community and clients being served. "Characteristics
of halfway houses include: 1) an identified process for selecting persons to live in the halfway

local, regional, or statewide commitment to funding and oversight of the operations of the halfway

collaboration, shared resources and problem–solving concerning offender case management; 6)
delivery of specific clients' services pursuant to contracts, standards and memoranda of agreement;

Left Pedal Pedal
The Left Pedal: The clutch pedal is actually a three position pedal. When fully depressed it puts the
T in low gear. When let off halfway, you are in neutral and when released all the way out you are in
second or high gear. This last position is only true if you have the hand lever pushed all the way
forward. If the hand lever is half way back or all the way back the clutch pedal is in neutral. It is a
little safety feature of the Model T Ford transmission so if the hand lever is back or halfway
forward, you have to actively push the clutch pedal in to make the car move. For the beginner, it is
best to leave the hand lever in the halfway position while you are starting to drive the T. This way
you only have to deal with low gear while you get a feel for the clutch and brakes. Your instructor
will let you start out in low gear so you can get the feel of how you can speed up and slow–down
using the throttle. Yes, the engine will help you slow down in low gear if you push the right lever
under the steering wheel all the way forward. You don't have to rely solely on the brakes to slow and
stop you. Putting the car in low gear by pushing the clutch pedal and moving the throttle lever up is
a great way to slow down for turns and stop lights without going into neutral. It is actually the
preferred way to reduce speed. Practice pushing the clutch into low gear and letting it out ... Show

brake pedal. Because of the three pedals, the brake is used the most, it pays to use the engine to slow
the car. As we will point out next, using the reverse pedal to slow the car to save brake

Police brutality has been an issue in the United States for decades. Many of the police force today
are perceived in a bad way through video footages on social media that displays images of the police
brutally beating on citizens to an extent of death. In the article "Police Violence and Citizen Crime
Reporting in the Black Community" written by Matthew Desmond, Andrew V. Papachristos, and
David S. Kirk, discusses police misconducts causing communities to be an unsafe environment for
citizens, especially the black community. Many black men have experienced racial profiling or
police brutality in Milwaukee and this continues on to a point where calling 911 for help is no
longer a choice for individuals to use due to a publicized case of police violence against a
defenseless man, Frank Jude. Jude, as stated in the article, was unarmed, accused, stripped naked,
and beaten by the police viciously. This terrifying incident caused many to protest against the police
force. Desmond, Papachristos, and Kirk all believed that after this savage case, many residents in
Milwaukee, mainly the black community, stop reporting crimes which lasted for a year. In

Elizabeth noticed Tony the second he entered the halfway house. Tony was a big man, standing 6'3".
He was also built with a thick layer of muscles that Elizabeth had come to be comfortable with
around the halfway house. Many of the men were referred to this house after spending years in
prison and during those years they spent much of their time working on their physical appearance to
look more intimidating. Tony did not look intimidating to Elizabeth though. He was probably 240
pounds, but his face had a softness about it. The softness was hidden under a scruffy dark brown
beard and long brown shaggy hair, but Elizabeth had become relaxed with the unkempt look of the
men that entered the halfway house also. As Elizabeth watched Tony ... Show more content on

If I were to tell you that a group of federal inmates guilty of a variety of crimes that included,
embezzlement, drug manufacturing, child pornography, and murder were in your community, the
average person would want to know where those criminals were located and shut that location
down. In many cities across the United States, there are facilities that house these convicted inmates.
The facilities are called halfway houses, and they were created to help an inmate that is released
from prison transition into a community under supervision. The halfway house program can be a
beneficial step in the process of an inmate's release, and can reap lasting rewards for the inmates, the
correctional system, and the communities they reside in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another problem that the prison system face is that after an inmate is released from prison, they
have a very high probability to repeat the offenses that they went to prison for originally. Halfway
houses have been a proven way to increase the chance of success for inmates once they have
finished their sentence, and this keeps them from further burdening an already straining system. The
Bureau of Prisons spends a large amount of money housing, feeding, and attempting to rehabilitate
convicts. Given the current laws in place, it is hard to offset the costs required to run those prisons.
Residents participating in halfway house programs are extremely low cost when compared to those
inmates residing in the prison system. The differences in costs can be associated the lower amount
of compensation for staff, smaller facilities, and cheaper utilities. The residents of halfway houses
are required to give 25 percent of the gross income they earn to the Bureau of Prisons. Given the
large difference in cost factors, halfway houses are a very economical way for the Bureau of Prisons
to save money on the last six months of an inmate's sentence. The probation office has also reaped
the rewards of halfway houses. Inmates that are released from prison, they will usually be required
to have supervision by a probation officer. In the past when a felon violated a condition of their
probation, there were very few ways to punish that person, and those punishments usually

Halfway Houses: And Other Prison Alternatives
For as long as there have been people, there have been violations of societal norms. With these
violations comes the question, how do we solve these problems or violations? There have been
many attempts to solve these problems, for example, in many cases from the beginning of time
retribution has been the answer. Another form of punishment was eventually invented that would
isolate offenders from the rest of the community. This punishment called incarceration, or prison,
takes the violator out of the society in an effort to stop any future misdoings. From their inception,
prisons have attempted to act as both a deterrent and a rehabilitator. However, in certain times one of
these is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 1993 study by Spohn and Holleran found, "No evidence that imprisonment reduces the likelihood
of recidivism. Indeed, we find compelling evidence that offenders who are sentenced to prison have
higher rates of recidivism and recidivate more quickly than do offenders placed on probation. "They
also found "persuasive" evidence that imprisonment has a more pronounced criminogenic effect on
drug offenders than on other types of offenders". Therefore, evidence exists that incarceration may
not only not work for drug offenders, but may actually make them more likely to commit crimes in
the future.
The prison system's overcrowding is making them more and more expensive to afford. Also,
mandatory sentences have hindered the Judiciary's ability to sentence offenders with discretion; so
many offenders are sent to prison automatically, without regard for mitigating circumstances. For
some of these offenders, prison may not be the most appropriate remedy. The cost to house and feed
the inmates is skyrocketing. As with the general public, the cost to provide medical treatment,
especially to those elderly and special needs inmates, has increased substantially.
There is overwhelming evidence that people who are incarcerated for long periods of time become
"institutionalized". They become so comfortable within this way of life that once they are released
they will commit crime in order to be re–incarcerated.

I Am A Very Diverse Program With A Different Race
In life you have to give people second chances, no matter who they are, or what they may have
done. You should look in your heart to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they will
change. By allowing a second chance within oneself, then the people around that person could
possibly give them a chance, and that could possibly result in making others want to work even
harder to prove that they too can change. This is what I try to seek for in my halfway houses; The
people that are trying to change for the better and not just so they can get out. This halfway house
survives men from 18–50 . I believe that this age range would be perfect, so the guys that are older
can teach the younger ones who are in the mid 20s to be more humble in life and try to keep out of
trouble. This program would be a very diverse program with a different race. In this program I 'm
expecting a majority of the inmates to bring new changes in their lives that would benefit them
and also the people around them. This halfway that I would be creating would satisfy everyone 's
needs from the prisoners to the homeowners that support "NIMBY". This halfway house would

This method has proven to be engaging because it seems to satisfy the goals of imprisonment
without the social and financial costs that are associated with imprisonment. Like halfway houses, it
is an alternative to prison overcrowding and is less costly. These monitors serve as a two way
communication device between offenders and probation or parole officers. With these devices,
officers are able to see where the offenders are if they are using GPS devices or they are able to tell
whether or not they are home and close to the monitor which is installed at the offender's home.
Offender's when put on EM, they are given ankle bracelets which give a continuous signal to the
monitor which is placed in their home. The monitor goes off and lets the officers know if the
offender has left home when they are not supposed to. They are usually set up with times when the
offenders should be home and when they are at work, if they are not home when they are allotted to,
and then the officers are notified. The goals of these monitors are to have a deterrent effect and to
provide community protection. Some of the problems faced with electronic monitoring include costs
and the fact that usual candidates for these monitors are low risk offenders who usually are drunk
drivers. The price to purchase one device is high and in order to offset the costs, offenders have to

Halfway Home Analysis
The goal of the halfway house is to provide a temporary safe environment for soon to be released
prisoners. Some of the prisoners stay a short period of time approximately 6 months. ( Bohm &
Haley, 2014) The halfway house is to help the prisoner transition back to society. The principal goal
of the halfway house is to make sure that the prisoners are getting the things that they're needing to
make sure they won't end up back behind bars. The main goal is to help the prisoners find a steady
job where they can be held accountable for their own actions. Education for prisoners is very
important so making sure that the prisoner is going to educational classes such as GED classes or
trade school. Most important to the prisoners in the halfway

Blue Ridge Experience
First at Blue Ridge, Inc. Site Visit For my site visit and interview assignment for HP 2100, Health
Planning, and Evaluation, I chose First at Blue Ridge Inc., a therapeutic community for people with
substance abuse, and their Executive Director, Joseph A. Martinez, J.D. However, this was not my
only time to visit the First. Several years back, I went to the First with a musician friend of mine for
a band practice. Mr. Martinez is an accomplished bass and keyboard player. He gave us a brief tour
of the compound and shared some of his personal history with recovery. The multiple building
complexes are nestled in the woods in Ridgecrest, NC, just east of Black Mountain. The place and
its residents had a familiar feel to it. You see, back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and interview with Mr. Martinez was not only an enjoyable experience, but informative as well.
Program planning was demonstrated with real world applications. I was able to gather enough
information to conclude my ideas on the pros and cons of the agency. Perhaps most importantly,
some avenues of career opportunities were demonstrated with a Health Promotion degree in the
substance abuse field. Since I closed my Three Quarter Way House in Miami in late 1997 and
drifted away from the recovery community, I have had a longing to be involved again. This has
formed part of my reason for continuing my educational pursuits. Mr. Martinez and his staff were
generous with their time, interaction, and advice. On Mr. Martinez's advice, I plan to pursue to
become a Certified Peer Support Specialist to compliment my degree. Also, I plan to attend the
Burke County Substance Abuse Network breakfast with Mr. Martinez on the last Friday of the
month. This assignment proved to be a most valuable

Pros And Cons Of Jonathan Edwards
During the time Jonathan Edwards was giving his sermons, the question of what type of conversion
could give someone membership into the faith came up. At this time, the faith with the Church was
going on a downward spiral. If people wanted to be a part of the membership, then they needed to
be able to show or demonstrate their conversion of faith. Several years after the colonies were
already established, people started questioning the faith of others. People who had emotional
conversions were not being accepted at this time. They were also not permitted to baptize their
children. People who had claimed that they had an emotional conversion were being questioned how
close they were to God. However, some people were able to be considered

Halfway House Proposal and the Cost Estimate Project
Cost Estimate Project: Safe–future Halfway House
Overview:
The Safe–future Halfway House will be a center specifically designed for recently incarcerated
young men, ages 16–21 years old in Yonkers, NY. This center will be dedicated to the safe transition
and readjustment of this vulnerable group into general society. In–House services will be available
from 7am–6pm. Safe–future Halfway House will accommodate residents for one year of continuous
"clean time." This will determine our success rate.
Service Count:
According to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), in 2012,
Westchester County incarcerated 213 juvenile delinquents (source, Office of Children and Family
Services). Historically, New York State (NYS) has bolstered expenditures on the complex prison
system. According to the Correctional Association of New York, irrational prison spending has
quickly surpassed expenditures geared towards higher education: "Almost fifteen years ago the
Correctional Association of New York documented how New York's governors and politicians had
rapidly increased prison funding while cutting funding to higher education" (source, Binghamton
Justice Project). Based on this information, senior management team members at Safe–future
Halfway House are interested in the educational advancement of our at–risk youth; we will
accomplish this by providing educational services and resources. The Safe–future Halfway House
can only accommodate 5 clients and one

• Assess The Benefits Of Rehabilitation To The Community
Rehabilitation in the community can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how the
person looking at it, some people may say its good because they get to get out of jail faster and get
help in trying to get a job and maintain that job. And some people can say its bad because they get
out of jail to soon and risk the possibility of him or her going back to there ways and committing
another crime because the temptation is still there. Through out this essay I will be talking about
how the rehabilitation can benefit the community and how it can also put people in danger even
though the offender is being monitored by a care taker.
There are many programs that an offender getting out of jail for either early release or work release,

Even though he is in jail and that way they can feel good about them selves and continue to maintain
their job and get out of the life he had before. This sounds good for the people that are trying to get
their life together and provide for their families or them selves.
Another good way for offenders to get out to the community is be released to Half Way Houses.
Half way houses are for all kinds of offenders including the high–risk offenders they are managed
24 hours a day 7 days a week. There are so many houses available for offenders that it made it hard
for people to count them all in a recent study in 2003 researchers counted 628 facilities housing over
19,500 offenders which is good because that is a bunch of people out of prison and not being over
populated. In addition, it is a lot cheaper to supervise offender through half way houses. The cost to
maintain an offender in a half way house is $43 a day, which is around $16,000 instead of the
$40,000 or more a year to keep a inmate in jail its more than half (Alarid, 2010). Half way houses
give the offender a feeling of being free but with still being supervised so that they wont go back to
their ways and commit any crimes, which in some cases do happen,
Now for the negative effects of Rehabilitation in the community People will still feel a sense of fear
knowing that a inmate has been released from jail and is not living in their neighborhood. Even
though they know that parole or probation are monitoring

The Halfway Truth On The Half Way House Essay
The Halfway Truth on
The Half–Way House
The Boca House in South Florida portrayed as the recovery resort but was nothing more than an
overpriced, rundown apartment complex with absolutely no support. My expectations were set very
high after doing my research on line and viewing their web page. It displayed this establishment in
the heart of the resort and celebrity filled town of Boca Raton on the sunny gold coast of South
Florida. It showed palm trees blowing in the wind and water fountains in their well–manicured court
yards of the living accommodations. After extensive review of their brochure and web page I
believed I was in for a treat in my early recovery. I expected there to be nice landscaping, tropical
plants, and palm trees surrounding the luxurious complex. I pictured water fountains and the sound
of water splashing while sitting on my balcony. There was to be a nice well maintained custom tile
pool with a hot tub connected to it. My apartment was to be filled with modern and contemporary
furnishing though out. The pictures I viewed showed nicely painted walls decorated with
contemporary art and pearly white ceramic tiles throughout the entire apartment. The kitchen had
nothing high end stainless steel appliances and beautiful granite counter tops. The impression I had
was as if I was going to be renting an apartment in a sober living environment in a well to do
establishment that I would be proud to call home.
A supportive staff was to be available at any time

Pros And Cons Of Drug Addiction
Due to the United States court system focusing on punishment instead of assisting people in battling
drug addiction, identified criminals do not receive the proper rehabilitation. Drug addiction is a large
problem across the United States; however, the court systems are doing nothing to prevent the
growing issue. People who are arrested on drug related crimes are often released without the proper
tools they need to battle their addiction, creating a never–ending cycle of repeat offenders. If the
court system started to view drug addiction as a disease instead of as a crime, drug addicts would
receive better tools to fight their disease.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (2017), drug offenses make up 46.3 percent of the
United States prison population. Many other crimes stem from drug abuse as well, such as, burglary,
robbery, and homicide, for example, people will steal to afford their drug of choice (K.Clayton,
personal communication, October 3rd, 2017). If the court system could help reduce the amount of
people addicted to drugs, the United States would see a vast decrease in crime rates across the
population.
Currently, the court system is using a crime control model to process court cases. Stacey L.
Mallicoat (2017), explains this model when she says, "The crime control model focuses on a
criminal justice system that processes criminals in an efficient, consist manner. Justice under the
crime control model resembles an 'assembly line.'", by staying moving

The Work Of Halfway Houses
Halfway houses are for people who are in probation or parolees. This type of program are for the
people who need a more concrete setting to be able to be successful when they get out. It allows
offenders to start there rehabilitation with the society. Halfway houses focus is to support criminals
who have no place to go and also those who have no support from their families. Halfway houses
provide everything for the inmates living there. The inmates have food to eat and a place to sleep.
Even though halfway houses might sound like dormitories despite of what was mentioned above. It
facilitates discharged offenders. The halfway staffs, together with officers provide the inmates with
specific instructions and guidance on various programs. Halfway houses also provide inmates with
counseling on topics like job searches, getting back into their family life, and staying drug free. The
inmates have strict curfews and other rules that they need to follow. The inmates can leave the
halfway house but only to look for a job, attend their job, school, rehabilitation, or for medical
reasons. With all of this being said halfway houses are a good alternative for probationers and
parolees that want to do something better for themselves. With halfway houses created, this can
reduce prison overcrowding and can also save us money throughout the years.
Prison overcrowding has been a problem for many years in the Unites States. With overcrowding

Discuss the Theatrical Device of One Actor for Multiple...
'Aadhe Adhure' or 'Halfway House' has often been described as a cross between Naturalist Theatre
and Theatre of the Absurd. Interestingly, both these elements actually undercut each other as
theatrical movements and are said to have polarized western theatre. Naturalism argues for heredity
and a global perspective on human behavior, which is said to develop out of the social environment
in which a particular individual lives. On the contrary, Absurdism believes that there are no
solutions to the mysteries of existence because ultimately man is alone, forced to perform repetitive
actions in a world without meaning. This play has many elements of Naturalist theatre, including a
linear movement, a limited time span, an in–depth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the statement is not entirely wrong either as Savitri, as the breadwinner of the household
is actually the 'man of the house'. Every society has an economic base and a cultural superstructure,
which is derived from the base. In Halfway House, the base has shifted and it is the wife who is
economically independent, however, the tragedy of the ironically named Savitri lies in the fact that
the superstructure has not shifted in accordance with the base. Mahendranath has not become the
domestic centre just because of his confinement to the house; Savitri is still required to fulfill her
'womanly' domestic duties. She is defined by the context of what it means to be a woman and has
internalized the patriarchal system. This is also made clear by Savitri's contempt of what she
believes is Mahendranath's lack of manliness. She despises his dependency on herself as well as
Juneja and constantly searches for escape routes through other, more suitable men. An element of
unrealism is brought in, in which even the characters seem to be aware of an underlying similarity
between the men, a device not available to them as characters. Askok's sketch of Singhania leads
Savitri to ask Binni if the portrait reminds her of someone, and on being asked, "Whom", she replies
"Your father." This intermingling of the play and the outside elements draws attention to this

because of my personal experiences with Department of Correction. I began my career with The
Connecticut Department of Corrections back in January of 2006. I was 21 years old when I entered
the academy and I was unsure what my future would hold within the walls of a prison. However, I
was very optimistic and full of desire to make a difference in a place that was full of negativity.
While I was in my pre–service training, I was provided with all the necessary skills I would need to
become a trained professional administrative visiting corridor. We were taught to deal with the daily
pressures of incarceration by using our interpersonal skills before anything else. Report writing was
also the main focus of staff development, as everything we do, as correctional workers MUST be
documented. This is detailed record keeping is for the protection of staff as well as the inmates
themselves. Once I completed the academy and I was placed at the MacDougall Correctional
Correctional Institute. This fast

Halfway Done: A Narrative Fiction

we've wasted half of our time," Riley corrects. "Well, that's not good." I think for a moment, "Maybe
the dog is a clue!" "Wasn't the dog already something to give us a note?" "It could always be both." I
reach out and twist my fingers through the white, thick fur, and I am surprised to find that it is solid.

"I–I I'm Riley," Riley stutters, reaching for her hand. Judy accepts, and shakes it, but suddenly she

height is decreasing at a fast rate and her eyes seem to become a darker color.
Judy screams of rage. "How could you? After all I have done for you!" She is aging very quickly,

The Federal Bureau of Prisons contracts with Residential Re–entry Centers (RRCFs), also known as
halfway houses, to provide assistance to inmates who are nearing release. Traditional RRCF's

Analysis Of Meeting You Halfway II
In the darkness of the theatre, a typical screening show takes place with audiences siting still in their
seats, facing the screen, waiting for the projector from their backs to turn on and enjoy their butter
popcorn. In a typical screening show, the screen is full of images of objects, characters and motions.
However, when it came to Anthony McCall, audiences do not enjoy the projection the way it
traditionally is, but interact with it as a projection artwork and a light sculpture. Anthony McCall's
"Meeting You Halfway II (2009)" at the exhibition "Primary Structures and Speculative Forms" at
Art Gallery of NSW was an extraordinary light art experience. The artwork caught my attention
with its backlit statement. Having been fascinated by cinematic works for long, "Meeting You
Halfway II (2009)" got my interest from the first line of the statement: "Based in the fundamental
principles of cinematic display, in which light is projected outward through a narrow gap on the a
wall or screen, Anthony McCall artworks create sculptures in light that draw viewers, almost
involuntarily, into physical engagement." Meeting You Halfway II (2009) was exhibited in a
separate, blank dark room. Light was projected horizontally towards the wall. The "film" included
two animated bright white curves, each of those grew bigger and smaller than the other in a certain
direction and made a full ellipse halfway across each other. However, it is the smoke that made it
special. The light was

Pros And Cons Of Halfway Houses
A halfway house that is fully functioning offers several pros and cons to nearby neighborhoods. It
calculating present can be defined in social and financial terms. However, I would not support a
half–way house being opened in my neighborhood. In order for one to understand my point of view
and meaning of half–way houses, I must first dissect how these dwellings can support or oppose a
community lifestyle. One major concern of a half–way house being opened in a neighborhood is
safe. When a halfway house is located in a surrounding area there is a chance of insecurity among
potential homeowners. Half–way houses provide a place of residence for individuals that have or
struggled with major problems including mental illnesses or drug abuse. This ... Show more content

If we dissect a hypothetical situation in which a halfway house is being occupied with recovering
drug addicts, how can we be certain that the home is going to be supervised properly? However,
residents of the halfway house are not always going to be under direct supervision. For example, if a
resident decides that they no longer want to be there. They have the opportunity to escape with very
little effort. This confinement is not as easy to accomplish with a judicial institution. These
offenders can become a hazard and dangerous to others due to their extreme behavior as they seek
out for drugs, or trying to run away from capture. Between January 2008 and March 2009, there
were 201 escaped offenders from a halfway house resident according to the New Jersey Today. This
is an average of one escape every two days over a fifteen–month time frame. These escapes were
associated with seven out of the twenty–five privately run halfway houses in Trenton, New Jersey.
An obstacle, such as this, proves that the instability of halfway houses is lacking in view of
management. Furthermore, halfway house programs sometimes reflect a corrupt system that awards
contracts on the basis of political favoritism rather than the ability to reduce recidivism. Halfway
house agreements are sometimes seen as a way for government officials to reward political backers
and campaign contributors. Unfortunately, not all halfway

Marc Sarcolo's Short Story: Halfway

substance happened to be scattered around his once dark room, lighting everything up. While
wondering, it took him a brief moment to realize it, but that whirring noise to the left of his head
gained his attention. Slowly turning his head and directing his piercing navy eyes to the left, a sky
blue light in a cylinder circle shape shined onto his wooden floors. Unfortunetly, the darkness
prevented him from noticing anything else. Unconciously jumping out of bed, Marc found himself

Halfway houses can hold an important role in changing a former criminals life. Halfway houses can
provide services that can enable a former criminal to get back in the workforce and reintegrate into

Some people may say that there can be a question of safety in neighborhoods, especially with
children. Many people may say that funding should be put towards the education of children, rather
than of former criminals. Some may also say that this can cause more drugs and other negative
influences on the street. This is not entirely true. Since former criminals decide to stay at a halfway
house on their own will, there should be no reason for anyone staying in a halfway house to get
involved with alcohol or drugs. Due to the halfway houses being in neighborhoods, there can be
additional security, which can be safe for the entire neighborhood. While funding more money into
education seems like a good idea, the outcomes of more halfway houses with better facilities can be
highly beneficial since an entire family knows their impact. If children witness their parents turn
their life around and leave their bad habits, they can truly be inspired to lead a clean and happy life.
If there is a lack of respect for former criminals going into halfway houses, it can lead to a more
negative stigma that people have held in society regarding halfway houses. It is important to change
that stigma, and support our fellow neighbors to begin a brighter

Halfway Off The Balcony

  • 1. Halfway Off The Balcony "Halfway Off the Balcony" is a song from Big Sean's upcoming album I've Decided. The song has one intro, three hooks, two verse, and one interlude. I found this song an overview of how Big Sean has changed further into his career. For instance, in the hook Big Sean states; "I'm hangin' halfway off the balcony Overthinkin' 'cause my job is way more than a salary" This line "I'm hangin' halfway off the balcony", explains to the audience that Big Sean feels like he is on the verge of changing himself. Furthermore, he is warning others that he is changing his way of thinking for the better. Onto the next line of the hook he follows with "Overthinkin' cause my job is way more than a salary", concluding that at his current position he is making more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Comparing All In Ally, Halfway Harry, And Don T Care Dave For different people, there can be various types of ways to study and act in the classroom. Some people react differently to how the teachers approach the lesson. Although some cannot comprehend the complexity, others may understand it right off the bat. The different names for the types of students in the classroom are: All in Ally, Halfway Harry, and Don't Care Dave. To say all students act and learn alike is utterly disappointing to those who fall under the categories of All in Ally, Halfway Harry, and Don't Care Dave. All in Ally is the person who makes the good grades, studies constantly, and will probably do something big in the future. She is the person who takes every single note the teacher gives and maybe even makes some notes of her own just for extra practice. When it comes to paying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dave is the least favorite of the teachers. He is the student all the teachers talk about together after school, and all the teachers wish they could just pass to send him along to the next grade. He does not take any notes at all because he is too lazy. Dave does not even listen to the teacher because he does not care what the teacher has to say about the lessons. He is the student who tries to distract Ally and Harry and gets everybody off topic. He goofs around constantly with other students from bell to bell and occasionally falls asleep during class sometimes. Dave is the student who has to be moved to different seats all throughout the semester because he cannot stop talking to the other students in the room and distracting them. He does not study at all because he never pays attention in class long enough to write down any notes. Dave's tendency to not care about studying or making good grades which results in him making mostly C's, D's, and F's. • 5. Learning A Whole New Language And Culture Halfway Through... Learning a whole new language and culture halfway through fifth grade was torturous as a child just beginning to start the puberty stage. Parents and teachers shifted from a friend to the enemy. Not understanding the intentions of my parents and English As a Second Language teachers by giving me workbooks for second and third graders, I, at the time, felt like they were just trying to keep me behind the other regular English students. However, those frustrations were never conveyed since communicating with other students, and especially faculty members, seemed even more arduous. Thus, my vocabulary range is not as wide as most other people that speaks English as their first language. This can be shown in the first paper I have written titled "Faster or Stronger" for the course "Eng&101 English Composition I" instructed by Martha J. Nagel. In this paper, there was a lot of repetition by using the same words multiple times throughout the essay to emphasize the thesis (Wangadi). This type of repetition can cause readers to become disinterested in the paper because even though it makes it easier for the reader to understand the argument, the lack of variety in the choice of words makes the paper seem dull and too predictable. In the most recent paper however, there were more variety in the vocabulary to still emphasize the thesis as well. Instead of saying "biggest victims" repeatedly, "main victims" and "leading victims" were used to create a variety that would still preserve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her deep sea of freckles and bright blue eyes added a playful flair to her look. It was a bright sunny day and Annabelle was waiting for her boyfriend Jackson. Brianne, her best friend, was pacing beside her, muttering "He's usually not this late. He should be here by now." Annabelle was now more annoyed than worried "Why? After a week of not seeing each other he is late for school! He knows how much school means to me because its the one place I get to be me! The bear began to shimmer and glow. It began to change shape. Soon, standing in front of them was Emma who was dazed and confused. They got up and brushed themselves off and hugged Emma, then ran back and woke everyone up!!!! When everybody had heard the story they made a campfire and sang songs, only Alex didn't join in. • 9. Halfway Point Research Paper Have you ever thought about how there are infinite halfway points? Between any two points there is a halfway point. For example, say you are trying to walk to the door in the room that you are in. There is a halfway point between you and that door. There is another halfway point between the new point and the door and another halfway point between the newest point and the door, etc. This would go on for an infinite amount of times. However, you will eventually get to the door, which is a finite distance away. Therefore, when you add up infinitely many numbers, sometimes you can get a finite answer. This process is called converging. Diverging, the opposite, will add up infinitely many numbers and get an infinite answer. For example, what if you doubled the distance you walk instead of halving it? You would go twice the distance to the door, and then quadruple the distance to the door until you have reached an infinite distance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As you approach infinity, the new numbers will only create a more precise number instead of increasing its value. Think about adding 1/10 of a number over time. The summation would be equal to 1.1111... the sum will never go past 1.12. There are some cases when a sum can diverge but not be equal to infinity. If the function is negative, the sum can be equal to two numbers, which means that the equation diverges to two different answers, but is not infinity. A similar case, where the terms approach 0, but do not converge can be caused by the function (–1/2)^x. This would cause the sum to approach zero but would not converge because the answers would be flip flopping between positive and negative. We know that the answer goes to zero because when the function approaches infinity, the terms get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Purpose Of A Halfway Home A long journey starts after one leaves a drug treatment center. It can be very dangerous for a person to return to his or her normal life immediately after leaving a drug treatment center. People may think that they are ready to go home, but they may be unable to cope with everyday stresses. That is why halfway houses are becoming more popular. A halfway house is a facility for recovering addicts that serves as a transitional environment. The purpose of a halfway home is to help a person adjust to living in the outside world. Halfway homes have many benefits. Below is a list of reasons that a halfway home is a better alternative to going home right after leaving a drug treatment facility: A Halfway House Allows People To Recover In A Safe ... • 13. Halfway Houses The early resurgence of halfway houses in the 1950s was due to the inability of institutional corrections to effectively rehabilitate offenders and limit further criminal behavior (Latessa & Smith, 2011). Therefore, halfway houses provided offenders transitional support to bridge the gap between imprisonment and free society, and most early halfway houses focused on individualized treatment, counseling, and substance abuse counseling, which conformed to the medical model used in prisons (Latessa & Smith, 2011). Furthermore, the need for halfway houses garnered additional attention from the federal government, and in 1965, the Prison Rehabilitation Act was enacted permitting the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to create community–based residences ... Furthermore, halfway houses, or residential re–entry centers, facilitate reintegration by offering a safe, structured, and supervised environment that provide employment counseling, job placement, financial management assistance, and other programs and services (Watkins, 2017). Additionally, halfway house placement can be used a sentencing alternative for low–risk offenders or the mentally ill; however, we need to consider the effectiveness of halfway houses as a transition or alternate sentencing option (Watkins, 2017). A study conducted by the Pennsylvania Corrections Department revealed that 67 percent of inmates sent to halfway houses were rearrested within three years, which was 7 percent higher than offenders who were released back to the streets with no transitional support (Dolnick, 2014). Therefore, we need to evaluate whether it is more beneficial and effective to increase programs, services, and treatment during incarceration than to continue to invest money in residential re–entry ... • 15. Police Brutality In 'Meet Me Halfway Milwaukee Stories' I wrote my essay about police brutality and feminism because I felt the need to address these two topics that are a part of today's conflicts. I am responding to those who cannot speak about both issues. By writing this research paper, I hope people are informed about these two conflicts and make a change within the society and improve it in better ways. As a person who lived in a segregated and diverse city all her life, I experience and see many things that involves racism, sexism, and police brutality. My exigence is to notify individuals how problems in the past are still continuing in the present, to advise others how police brutality abuses their power and falsely accuse victims, mainly the black community, of actions that they didn't do, and to apprise people that sexism is perceive in ways that allow men to downgrade women. ... The article , "Police Violence and Citizen Crime Reporting in the Black Community" provided useful evidence that helped me support my essay and explain more into depth and connect to the book, "Meet Me Halfway; Milwaukee Stories" by Jennifer Morales. I am writing this essay towards the people who needs to be inform about these issues even if they have never experience these problems, people should be more cautious of what today's society is facing because it could affect the future in ways that will worsen the problem . With this essay, larger purpose is to explain how racism still affects the black community as a whole and how feminism is being discriminated. With the researched that I've done, many black men are disproportionately being racially profiled and targeted by white police officers because of their skin color and sexism and feminism is highly portrayed negatively that makes women look ... Many people have obstacles everyday, but it's not the obstacles these people face it's the ones they have overcome that make their stories. Many things are obstacles but not all are the same. These two people named Arjay and Gecko from the book The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman encountered multiple obstacle throughout the book. Arjay and Gecko both were criminals but, Gecko did not want to be one, and Arjay never meant to kill anyone. They both had to overcome multiple obstacles. The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman has four main characters Terence, Arjay, Gecko, and their group leader Mr.Healey. But the one that overcame the largest obstacle, was Arjay. Arjay is a 15 year old kid that was charged with manslaughter and put into a halfway house. But the obstacle he had to overcome were the people he was in the halfway house with, specifically Terence. Arjay is a strict rule follower and did not want to be kicked out of the halfway house, and Terence was still getting in trouble in the halfway house, so he said "I'm not going back inside because you can't keep your hands off everything you see. As I sat in the back of Mrs. Kirkland's room, 400 wing, I pondered about becoming a seamstress. To my right, a blonde headed girl was twirling her hair and smacking her gum very loudly while her feet were up on the table. To my left, Camryn was speaking to me using many hand motions and I was trying to follow, consequently, the only words I catch are "Robot beat down." Halfway Houses/Hawthorn Heights As the need for increasingly punitive community–based sanctions grew, the demand for a greater variety of programs and services became apparent, as did the importance of a more seamless transition from total incapacitation to total freedom of prisoners re–entering society. A variety of community corrections methods have developed over the years, one being the institution of halfway houses. To adequately understand residential community corrections, one must consider the origins, components, and effectiveness of halfway houses. • 23. Left Pedal Pedal The Left Pedal: The clutch pedal is actually a three position pedal. When fully depressed it puts the T in low gear. When let off halfway, you are in neutral and when released all the way out you are in second or high gear. This last position is only true if you have the hand lever pushed all the way forward. If the hand lever is half way back or all the way back the clutch pedal is in neutral. It is a little safety feature of the Model T Ford transmission so if the hand lever is back or halfway forward, you have to actively push the clutch pedal in to make the car move. For the beginner, it is best to leave the hand lever in the halfway position while you are starting to drive the T. This way you only have to deal with low gear while you get a feel for the clutch and brakes. Your instructor will let you start out in low gear so you can get the feel of how you can speed up and slow–down using the throttle. Yes, the engine will help you slow down in low gear if you push the right lever under the steering wheel all the way forward. You don't have to rely solely on the brakes to slow and stop you. • 25. Meet Me Halfway, Milwaukee Stories By Jennifer Morales Police brutality and feminism are some of the issues the United States faces today. Police have always been an issue for people to deal with especially for the black community. Numerous African American males have encountered situations where they have been accused of crimes or beaten by the police. Feminism dates back to history where women were discriminated and degraded because of their gender. In today's society, many of these conflicts still occur today and many prejudicial statements are made to downgrade women as a whole. In the book "Meet Me Halfway; Milwaukee Stories" written by Jennifer Morales, she addresses these two topics that people face everyday. In her book, she states the issues that African Americans face in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this issue, the headquarters of the BPP in Milwaukee was burned down by the police and many got injured. In this circumstance, Morales also introduces the major topic that the world still faces, police brutality. Police brutality has been an issue in the United States for decades. Many of the police force today are perceived in a bad way through video footages on social media that displays images of the police brutally beating on citizens to an extent of death. In the article "Police Violence and Citizen Crime Reporting in the Black Community" written by Matthew Desmond, Andrew V. Papachristos, and David S. Kirk, discusses police misconducts causing communities to be an unsafe environment for citizens, especially the black community. Many black men have experienced racial profiling or police brutality in Milwaukee and this continues on to a point where calling 911 for help is no longer a choice for individuals to use due to a publicized case of police violence against a defenseless man, Frank Jude. Jude, as stated in the article, was unarmed, accused, stripped naked, and beaten by the police viciously. This terrifying incident caused many to protest against the police force. Desmond, Papachristos, and Kirk all believed that after this savage case, many residents in Milwaukee, mainly the black community, stop reporting crimes which lasted for a year. Amy kissed the top of Tammy's head and I tried to put my arms around them too, but then I looked back at the school and the cameras were following us out. Amy waved to them and I watched Tammy turn and do the same. "Let's go," I said, resting my hands on their backs and pushing them into the car. I raised my hand to the cameras so that it looked like a goodbye, but really it was a barrier. We went to eat at Tammy's favorite diner: The Halfway Cafe. He was also built with a thick layer of muscles that Elizabeth had come to be comfortable with around the halfway house. Many of the men were referred to this house after spending years in prison and during those years they spent much of their time working on their physical appearance to look more intimidating. Tony did not look intimidating to Elizabeth though. He was probably 240 pounds, but his face had a softness about it. The softness was hidden under a scruffy dark brown beard and long brown shaggy hair, but Elizabeth had become relaxed with the unkempt look of the men that entered the halfway house also. "No, I think I can handle it ma'am," Tony said as he let another small grin come across his face. Tony sat with a level of confidence that was unsettling to Elizabeth. Police have always been an issue for people to deal with especially for the black community. Numerous African American males have encountered situations where they have been accused of crimes or beaten by the police. Essay on Halfway Houses If I were to tell you that a group of federal inmates guilty of a variety of crimes that included, embezzlement, drug manufacturing, child pornography, and murder were in your community, the average person would want to know where those criminals were located and shut that location down. In many cities across the United States, there are facilities that house these convicted inmates. The facilities are called halfway houses, and they were created to help an inmate that is released from prison transition into a community under supervision. The halfway house program can be a beneficial step in the process of an inmate's release, and can reap lasting rewards for the inmates, the correctional system, and the communities they reside in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another problem that the prison system face is that after an inmate is released from prison, they have a very high probability to repeat the offenses that they went to prison for originally. Halfway houses have been a proven way to increase the chance of success for inmates once they have finished their sentence, and this keeps them from further burdening an already straining system. The Bureau of Prisons spends a large amount of money housing, feeding, and attempting to rehabilitate convicts. Given the current laws in place, it is hard to offset the costs required to run those prisons. Residents participating in halfway house programs are extremely low cost when compared to those inmates residing in the prison system. The differences in costs can be associated the lower amount of compensation for staff, smaller facilities, and cheaper utilities. The residents of halfway houses are required to give 25 percent of the gross income they earn to the Bureau of Prisons. Given the large difference in cost factors, halfway houses are a very economical way for the Bureau of Prisons to save money on the last six months of an inmate's sentence. The probation office has also reaped the rewards of halfway houses. Inmates that are released from prison, they will usually be required to have supervision by a probation officer. With these violations comes the question, how do we solve these problems or violations? There have been many attempts to solve these problems, for example, in many cases from the beginning of time retribution has been the answer. Another form of punishment was eventually invented that would isolate offenders from the rest of the community. This punishment called incarceration, or prison, takes the violator out of the society in an effort to stop any future misdoings. From their inception, prisons have attempted to act as both a deterrent and a rehabilitator. However, in certain times one of these is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A 1993 study by Spohn and Holleran found, "No evidence that imprisonment reduces the likelihood of recidivism. Indeed, we find compelling evidence that offenders who are sentenced to prison have higher rates of recidivism and recidivate more quickly than do offenders placed on probation. "They also found "persuasive" evidence that imprisonment has a more pronounced criminogenic effect on drug offenders than on other types of offenders". Therefore, evidence exists that incarceration may not only not work for drug offenders, but may actually make them more likely to commit crimes in the future. The prison system's overcrowding is making them more and more expensive to afford. Also, mandatory sentences have hindered the Judiciary's ability to sentence offenders with discretion; so many offenders are sent to prison automatically, without regard for mitigating circumstances. For some of these offenders, prison may not be the most appropriate remedy. The cost to house and feed the inmates is skyrocketing. As with the general public, the cost to provide medical treatment, especially to those elderly and special needs inmates, has increased substantially. There is overwhelming evidence that people who are incarcerated for long periods of time become "institutionalized". Like halfway houses, it is an alternative to prison overcrowding and is less costly. These monitors serve as a two way communication device between offenders and probation or parole officers. With these devices, officers are able to see where the offenders are if they are using GPS devices or they are able to tell whether or not they are home and close to the monitor which is installed at the offender's home. Offender's when put on EM, they are given ankle bracelets which give a continuous signal to the monitor which is placed in their home. The monitor goes off and lets the officers know if the offender has left home when they are not supposed to. They are usually set up with times when the offenders should be home and when they are at work, if they are not home when they are allotted to, and then the officers are notified. The goals of these monitors are to have a deterrent effect and to provide community protection. Some of the problems faced with electronic monitoring include costs and the fact that usual candidates for these monitors are low risk offenders who usually are drunk drivers. And some people can say its bad because they get out of jail to soon and risk the possibility of him or her going back to there ways and committing another crime because the temptation is still there. Another good way for offenders to get out to the community is be released to Half Way Houses. Half way houses are for all kinds of offenders including the high–risk offenders they are managed 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There are so many houses available for offenders that it made it hard for people to count them all in a recent study in 2003 researchers counted 628 facilities housing over 19,500 offenders which is good because that is a bunch of people out of prison and not being over populated. In addition, it is a lot cheaper to supervise offender through half way houses. The cost to maintain an offender in a half way house is $43 a day, which is around $16,000 instead of the $40,000 or more a year to keep a inmate in jail its more than half (Alarid, 2010). Half way houses give the offender a feeling of being free but with still being supervised so that they wont go back to their ways and commit any crimes, which in some cases do happen, Now for the negative effects of Rehabilitation in the community People will still feel a sense of fear knowing that a inmate has been released from jail and is not living in their neighborhood. • 55. Pros And Cons Of Drug Addiction Due to the United States court system focusing on punishment instead of assisting people in battling drug addiction, identified criminals do not receive the proper rehabilitation. Drug addiction is a large problem across the United States; however, the court systems are doing nothing to prevent the growing issue. People who are arrested on drug related crimes are often released without the proper tools they need to battle their addiction, creating a never–ending cycle of repeat offenders. If the court system started to view drug addiction as a disease instead of as a crime, drug addicts would receive better tools to fight their disease. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (2017), drug offenses make up 46.3 percent of the United States prison population. Many other crimes stem from drug abuse as well, such as, burglary, robbery, and homicide, for example, people will steal to afford their drug of choice (K.Clayton, personal communication, October 3rd, 2017). If the court system could help reduce the amount of people addicted to drugs, the United States would see a vast decrease in crime rates across the population. Currently, the court system is using a crime control model to process court cases. Stacey L. Interestingly, both these elements actually undercut each other as theatrical movements and are said to have polarized western theatre. Naturalism argues for heredity and a global perspective on human behavior, which is said to develop out of the social environment in which a particular individual lives. On the contrary, Absurdism believes that there are no solutions to the mysteries of existence because ultimately man is alone, forced to perform repetitive actions in a world without meaning. However, the statement is not entirely wrong either as Savitri, as the breadwinner of the household is actually the 'man of the house'. Every society has an economic base and a cultural superstructure, which is derived from the base. In Halfway House, the base has shifted and it is the wife who is economically independent, however, the tragedy of the ironically named Savitri lies in the fact that the superstructure has not shifted in accordance with the base. Mahendranath has not become the domestic centre just because of his confinement to the house; Savitri is still required to fulfill her 'womanly' domestic duties. She is defined by the context of what it means to be a woman and has internalized the patriarchal system. This is also made clear by Savitri's contempt of what she believes is Mahendranath's lack of manliness. She despises his dependency on herself as well as Juneja and constantly searches for escape routes through other, more suitable men. An element of unrealism is brought in, in which even the characters seem to be aware of an underlying similarity between the men, a device not available to them as characters. In a typical screening show, the screen is full of images of objects, characters and motions. However, when it came to Anthony McCall, audiences do not enjoy the projection the way it traditionally is, but interact with it as a projection artwork and a light sculpture. Anthony McCall's "Meeting You Halfway II (2009)" at the exhibition "Primary Structures and Speculative Forms" at Art Gallery of NSW was an extraordinary light art experience. The artwork caught my attention with its backlit statement. Having been fascinated by cinematic works for long, "Meeting You Halfway II (2009)" got my interest from the first line of the statement: "Based in the fundamental principles of cinematic display, in which light is projected outward through a narrow gap on the a wall or screen, Anthony McCall artworks create sculptures in light that draw viewers, almost involuntarily, into physical engagement." Meeting You Halfway II (2009) was exhibited in a separate, blank dark room. Light was projected horizontally towards the wall. The "film" included two animated bright white curves, each of those grew bigger and smaller than the other in a certain direction and made a full ellipse halfway across each other. However, it is the smoke that made it special. The light was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Pros And Cons Of Halfway Houses A halfway house that is fully functioning offers several pros and cons to nearby neighborhoods. It calculating present can be defined in social and financial terms. However, I would not support a half–way house being opened in my neighborhood. In order for one to understand my point of view and meaning of half–way houses, I must first dissect how these dwellings can support or oppose a community lifestyle. One major concern of a half–way house being opened in a neighborhood is safe. When a halfway house is located in a surrounding area there is a chance of insecurity among potential homeowners. Half–way houses provide a place of residence for individuals that have or struggled with major problems including mental illnesses or drug abuse. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we dissect a hypothetical situation in which a halfway house is being occupied with recovering drug addicts, how can we be certain that the home is going to be supervised properly? However, residents of the halfway house are not always going to be under direct supervision. For example, if a resident decides that they no longer want to be there. They have the opportunity to escape with very little effort. This confinement is not as easy to accomplish with a judicial institution. These offenders can become a hazard and dangerous to others due to their extreme behavior as they seek out for drugs, or trying to run away from capture. Between January 2008 and March 2009, there were 201 escaped offenders from a halfway house resident according to the New Jersey Today. This is an average of one escape every two days over a fifteen–month time frame. These escapes were associated with seven out of the twenty–five privately run halfway houses in Trenton, New Jersey. An obstacle, such as this, proves that the instability of halfway houses is lacking in view of management. Furthermore, halfway house programs sometimes reflect a corrupt system that awards contracts on the basis of political favoritism rather than the ability to reduce recidivism. Halfway house agreements are sometimes seen as a way for government officials to reward political backers and campaign contributors. Unfortunately, not all halfway ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Marc Sarcolo's Short Story: Halfway Marc Sarcolo awoke with a start. Rising up, he looked around the room. A lime green, slimy, shining substance happened to be scattered around his once dark room, lighting everything up. While wondering, it took him a brief moment to realize it, but that whirring noise to the left of his head gained his attention. Slowly turning his head and directing his piercing navy eyes to the left, a sky blue light in a cylinder circle shape shined onto his wooden floors. Unfortunetly, the darkness prevented him from noticing anything else. Unconciously jumping out of bed, Marc found himself walking right under the bright light like some invisible object was forcing him too, pushing him. Taking that last step into the beam of light, Marc felt squeezed like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Darkness slowly took him, and he passed out. Awakening to a bucket of cold water being splashed onto his face, he opened his eyes to see a green figure shaped like a vase with octopus–like legs with pointy ends for it's feet. It had 3 eyes and no mouth, but it had large ears that looked like an elephant's. His first instinct was to move, although being strapped to a padded, badly painted, lawn chair, he's unable to. The bright, completely white room, had an alien standing straight in front of him, he held out some sort of brown notepad, which had crude, wobbly writing that said explained to him that he has become a subject for the aliens that abducted him, and that studying a human atschool is their research project. They said that they studied human writing and culture to explain all this to him and to wake him up. It also said they will be watching him closely, so he will be monitored when he goes to school. So no speaking a word to anyone, or the consequences will be bad. The aliens left the room after Marc just kept staring at them, so here Marc was, waiting. After a couple seconds went by, the aliens came back into the room and presented him a plate of food, then left the room ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I hit the water I realized that my uncle Bobby was going to grab me when i hit the water. Uncle Bobby taught me to do many things including swimming, baseball and fishing. Without Bobby I still might not know how to do these things . A few years ago i was sitting at home minding my own business when my phone starts to ring I was kind of lazy so i figured it is probably just a telemarketer. I never answered it and after a few minutes it rings again so I pick it up and see that it is my uncle Bobby so i pick it up and he says "Do you want to go swimming?" I did not have anything else to do so I said that I would. After awhile he can up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Halfway House Research Paper My name is Harleen Pannu and I currently attend Consumes River College as a freshman in my second semester of college. This letter is in regards to the support for halfway houses in Sacramento. Halfway houses can hold an important role in changing a former criminals life. Halfway houses can provide services that can enable a former criminal to get back in the workforce and reintegrate into society. There are many positive aspects that come a long a former criminal going back into the workforce. The individual can start their new life and be able to support their family and have a positive influence on their children. Also, the children can have a positive influence, since they are able to see their role models enter a level of integrity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people may say that there can be a question of safety in neighborhoods, especially with children. Many people may say that funding should be put towards the education of children, rather than of former criminals. Some may also say that this can cause more drugs and other negative influences on the street. This is not entirely true. Since former criminals decide to stay at a halfway house on their own will, there should be no reason for anyone staying in a halfway house to get involved with alcohol or drugs. Due to the halfway houses being in neighborhoods, there can be additional security, which can be safe for the entire neighborhood. While funding more money into education seems like a good idea, the outcomes of more halfway houses with better facilities can be highly beneficial since an entire family knows their impact. If children witness their parents turn their life around and leave their bad habits, they can truly be inspired to lead a clean and happy life. If there is a lack of respect for former criminals going into halfway houses, it can lead to a more negative stigma that people have held in society regarding halfway houses. It is important to change that stigma, and support our fellow neighbors to begin a brighter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
