answers to such fundamental questions as who should rule and how?
The four most common systems of Greek government were:
10. One of the great things that the Greeks
came up with was philosophy. It was their
way of trying to make sense of the world
in a non-religious way. 'Philo-' means love
and '-sophia' means wisdom, so the word
“philosophy” actually means “the love of
wisdom.”
Ancient Greek philosophers can be
categorized into three groups: the Pre-
Socratics, the Socratics, and the Post-
Socratics.
11. Pre-Socratic philosophers believed that
humans originated from a single
substance, which could be water, air, or
an unlimited substance called “apeiron.”
The Socratic philosophers in ancient
Greece were Socrates, Plato, and
Aristotle.
The Post-Socratic philosophers focused
their attention on the individual rather
than on communal issues such as politics.
12. ART
Artists worked with a wide variety of
materials including bronze and
stone for sculpture; terracotta for
vases and figurines; various
pigments for painting; and gold,
silver, and bronze for coinage.

13. Ancient Greek Artist created paintings and
sculptures, but one of their most famous
inventions is the black and red decorated
pot. These were both, practical objects
that could be used for wine or water, and
beautiful works of art.
14. The Greeks made images of humans and gods
from marble and bronze that were painted
in bright colors. The Romans copied a lot
of the Grateful Greek statues.
15. Most classical Greek architecture consisted
of a rectangular- or square-based
building with doric (simple, cylindrical)
columns spaced evenly around the
perimeter and sometimes in the center as
well.
16. Theater, the art of drama, was always a big
part of life in ancient Greece. The ancient
style of theater that contained no
individual speaking parts was highly
influential on Shakespeare and other
great playwrights. It consisted mostly of a
chorus of men, often dressed as horses
and gods and goddesses, telling a story
through song and dance.
