Separation of Lanthanides/ Lanthanides and Actinides
Evaluation 1
1. Evaluation 1:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
2. Conventions:
• What are conventions?
• Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing
something. There are general conventions in any medium
such as the use of interviewee quotes in a print article, but
conventions are also genre specific.
• What are codes?
• Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Codes can be
divided into two categories – technical and symbolic.
• Technical codes are equipment used to tell the story in a media
text, example: the camera work in a film.
• Symbolic codes show what is beneath the surface of what we
see. For example, a character's actions show you how the
character is feeling.
• Some codes fit both categories – music for example, is both
technical and symbolic.
3. Layout:
• On the contents page and cover page. There is one column of writing and one
of pictures on different sides. Hey are all framing the image.
Font:
Usually in size 10/13 size font. The pull quotes and information on the front
cover
Photography: Is credited for double page spread there are interesting
and varied photos I have taken, in different locations for different themes and
clothing.
Music genre:
I think my magazine fits the genre and expectations of a music magazine very well. Due to
bright images and costume's working with the design. There associated with my music
genre.
4. Masthead: • My masthead follows conventions as it is bold and
large. Placed at the top of the cover and isn’t fully
covered by the image. A big unique font, due to it
being well known the main image can cover if well
known. It challenges conventions due to the font
style being unusual and bit unclear. I decided on the
name upbeat due to the music industry of dance
music being upbeat and having a good vibe. It does
suit my genre and is big and eye catching. It’s
important for my house style and identification.
• One main image to the right hand side. It can flow media conventions
depending in the magazine advertised everyone displays there pictures
differently. It’s a mid shot of the waist up of my subject, the image is posed
with an empty as it has been edited out with a bright yellow background in
it’s place. Direct address is given audience. The image fits the conventions
due to the positioning of the face and facial expressions.
Images:
5. Misenscene:
• Lighting: Is very bright and well lit to take pictures in and it can follow
conventions again is dependent on the magazine design.
• Costume: The costume on front cover is very bright and coloured
clothing of crop; top and jeans, with her midriff showing. There aren’t
any props for the images only different clothing 2 different looks.
• The written content is a major aspect for all magazines and music
lovers. The style of dance and genre allows me to make up a story of my
subjects life in music.
• Each page is different has a different purpose therefore the text is
different, the cover page and contents is very formal however the
double page spread has an informal tone to it. As the article is personal
and informative about her life.
6. Front cover:
• The front cover has a large bold masthead in the font peppermint. Its bold and
stands out drawing the readers attention to the top. As well as the image is
overlapping on top of the masthead this connotes that the magazine can sell
covers even without advertising the magazine brand. This is like many
magazines the masthead is always on the top, and then the features and cover
lines go below it. There is a small box advertising the product, as well as her
new collaboration and songs. There is a big advertisement for festivals in this
magazine.
7. Contents:
• The title contents takes he centre of the part at the very top almost like a masthead. As well
as being in bold swirly writing to make it stand out against other fonts, against a yellow
background. Making it stand out. They are intriguing words to get the reader interested in
the feature. o the audience. As well as well sectioned titles and cover in story's.
• The main image on contents page is important as its advertising a clothing brand and
showing of the style to the magazine. The layout us fresh and bright for the reader. As well
as the image in the right bottom hand corner of Wireless festival looking very entreating to
young readers. It’s usually positioned in middle it doesn’t follow the conventions and is on
the left hand side.
• It doesn’t have a magazine logo, due to the issue no needing one.
• There is features, reviews and exclusives all for different cover lines, with different feature
articles below it.
• There is an index of information and images on the cover.
8. Double page spread:
• The font is bold and in black and red, centred in the middle of the article
drawing attention to it. The font is whirly and clear to read, drawing a lot of
attention to the article. The articles are separated into too columns the first
explains her background and the right her life and how she's doing. The
graphics are bright and the colour scheme is simple with dark grey tones,
oranges and bright yellow. There is a pull quote between the articles and
another image placed between part of the photoshoot for the double page
spread and contents page. As well as the name labelled at the bottom. There
is a sticker on the right hand side over the image, as well as a brand logo over
the head of my subject. My double page spread follows the conventions of a
standard magazine.
