Essay dreams
Dreams have long fascinated the human race. This alternate reality, separate from the conscious world we see around us, has captured the interest of
many people throughout history. In fact, mankind has been studying dreams since the invention of the written word. Perhaps the lure of dreams is that
there seems to be some significance behind them. Most reject the idea that dreams are just random meaningless fragments of data. The vivid sensations
that dreams create are just too powerful to ignore. The world of dreams is filled with peculiar phenomenon and unexpected events that beg our
attention. Consider the following example of a dream:
I was in a fairly large square room; the room was dark...I was sitting on the floor against the wall...In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this kind of thinking did not last long. A Greek philosopher in the 5th Century named Heraclitus was probably the first to suggest that
dreams actually originated from within. He stated that each individual's dreams were unique and were products of his own mind. Socrates and Plato
followed where Heraclitus left off, corroborating his theory with their own research. Finally it was Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that
dreams were attempts at divine communication. His practical approach to dream research paved the way for future scholars such as Freud and Jung.
Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could sometimes provide insight into one's personal problems. (Parker
10–15)
In 1899, more than two thousand years after Aristotle, Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams and "modern dream psychology was
born" (Fontana 26). Freud looked down on other methods of dream interpretation because they were too rigid. Psychologists would create lists of
dream symbols along with their meaning so that they could quickly look up the meaning of a dream. Freud believed that each person associated
dream symbols with different things. For example, a ship going through a storm could represent a difficult time at work for one person, but it could
represent a health problem for someone else. Freud developed his own method of dream interpretation, which he called free

Dreams And The Subconscious : Dreams Essay
Dreams and the Subconscious
Are dreams a way of processing life events, or are they really messages from the subconscious? This phenomenon has always interested me, and I am
extremely grateful this opportunity has arisen for me to research dreams in more depth. Since childhood, I have been intrigued with dreams and how
similar they can be for each person. For instance, many people have recurring nightmares of being chased. According to Huffington Post, being chased
is one of the most common dreams. The dream is so vivid and creates such anxiety within you, that you tend to wake up distressed. Surprisingly,
being chased in your dream is not the important part, however, looking behind you at what you 're running from is. Chase dreams alert you to look
deeper at situations you have been avoiding. This is important because dreams can help you realize areas in your life that need to be addressed
(DreamsCloud). I have found many theories about dreams and some are contradictory. Some experts base dream analysis on physiological symbols
and their messages and others base theirs on scientific theories. It is greatly debated whether or not dreams have meaning or are merely the limbic
system processing the day 's events. Various influences need to be considered when analyzing a dream such as your environment and emotions. I, for
one, am a strong believer in the meaning of dreams, and often follow their guidance when making real–life decisions. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge

Dreams : What Are Dreams?
What are dreams? Are they the mind's way of entertaining itself while you sleep, or are they your unconscious trying to tell you something? If you
chose the ladder, you are on the right track. The mind can't talk to you, you don 't hear voices in your head unless you are a Schizophrenic. The only
way that our unconscious mind has a way to communicate, is when you are asleep. The idea that dreams are trying to tell you something is simple, but
understanding what the dream is trying to say can be difficult, as dreams can often be complex and seem to make no sense. Amongst the nonsense of
dreams, their true meaning is wish fulfillment. Dreams allow people to understand their unconscious wants and fears, but are never presented in a clear
fashion; therefore, one needs to unravel their true meaning.
I had a strange anxiety dream a couple of nights ago. I was in my current house, in my living room, when suddenly I look around and the walls are
covered with dozens bugs. They are not normal sized but huge, like something from the cretaceous period. Some look like oversized centipedes
and other like huge beetles, but many of them I can't recognize. They all seem to have large legs and move quickly. Suddenly I have a gallon of
home defense bug spray and I aggressively try to spray them all. For some reason the ceiling and walls are abnormally high and I can't reach all the
bugs, and the ones I can reach seem to not be dying. In real life bugs terrify me, and in the dream the sight of

The humankind throughout history has tried to learn and figure out the meaning of dreaming. The interpretations and true meanings of dreams has
expanded and has varied over centuries and cultures. Many of the earlier studies were based on culture's and the interpretation of dreams, but also
used as a form of prophecy, inspiration, and guidance. Many people still believe this such, people today beliefs and theories have opened up to a more
vast interpretation, they are made up of; dreams are rare brain activity, dreams allow people to reflect on themselves, or that dreams are too massive
to be correctly interpret. Although, not a single theory has been proven to this day, science as of why dreams occur is still a mystery. However, the
true exact meaning of dreaming hasn 't been proven, there has been new ideas, different methods to advances to both a psychological, science
understanding of when it began and how it functions. What some of the studies have concluded is that dreams are a certain phase of the brain 's
activities, that the mind experiences while you are sleep; sounds, pictures, ideas, and feelings. Both psychologists and scientist have theorized that
dreaming is made up of the person's mind, that ranges from being rare, normal, scary, and ordinary. Having the power to awaken only to wonder what
the dream you had last night was about, or even try to find the cause of a dream, but not knowing the truth about it can leave a lot of mystery behind.

Is A Dream Lost In The American Dream
A Dream Lost?
America is often thought to be the land of opportunity, where dreams come true, where people leave behind their old lives running from corruption,
poverty, famine, or could just simply be looking for greater opportunity. Is this really what America is today, do these dreams still really exist in the
common folk who wish to make something come true, make the "American Dream" come true. In the poem I, too sing America by Langston Hughes
the people of story express how they are living in the shadows of others, how their looked over in society. America too has lost its luster ofhope and the
reputation that held behind the name "America". In Let America be America Again Langston Hughes again demonstrates how America has lost its
luster where he says, "Let America be the dream dreamers dreamed." In this quote Langton Hughes tells us how America has changed, that it's
different from when the first dreamers created the land of dreams that America once was. The American dream is a something that is highly based on
perspective, from the perspective of a second class citizen named Walter Lee from A Raisin in the Sun, a play by Lorraine Hansberry Walter cries,
"All of it, it's all gone...." In this Walter just learned that the money he had received from his father's death was stolen. He had been wanting the money
to try to invest and make something of himself, for himself, for his family, but all that is lost in the blink of an eye. This is how Walter's dream died

My Dreams
I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. The town my parents decided to raise my brothers and I wasn't a place where you had the means to pursue your
dreams. My parents were young and naive thinking that they could raise a family at such a young age. Although we had a place to sleep and food to
eat, we were barely getting by. Coming home every day from selling snacks in front of the local school, my brothers and I were greeted with my mother
's smile but we could all tell the twinge of sadness hiding itself behind her smile. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood, the kids around the block
knew each other very well; we could understand each other because of our situations. In some nights the neighbourhood kids would gather around the
abandoned house just around the corner from where I lived. We would talk about our dreams of going away to the city and our unrealistic hopes of
becoming a millionaire overnight. We all knew that was impossible, but one can dream. I–for the longest time–dreamt of becoming a teacher. When I
was younger I knew it would only be a dream, it would never become a reality. But as I grew up watching "children who don't dream, or dismiss
their own desires", I knew I wanted to make something out of myself, to prove those that said I couldn't, that I could. I wanted to make my dreams a
reality. When I voiced these feelings to my family, my father laughed at me. I sat there at our worn down dinner table and fiddled with my thumbs.
Why's that funny? I can do it,

Dreams : A Lucid Dream
Being able to understand what dreams represent and how they effect a person should be something everyone should understand. Dreams can be a
small glimpse or feel so real that it is unbelievable. The issue people have the most is remembering. They can not remember if they spoke with
another individual in actually life or if it was all apart of their dream they had. There is so much confusion that the person is almost embarrassed to ask
if the event actually happened. A dream like this is considered one of many lucid dreams. What is a lucid dream, how a person can control it, and
compare it to the movie Inception.
Dreaming has perceptions, emotions and thoughts experienced during sleep. Some medications enhance how dreams are brought upon, but a rare type
of dream to have is lucid dreaming. A lucid dream is any dream during which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. This enables direct control
over the content of the dreams. Studies could help unlock some of the inner workings of people's minds and help them to better understand mental
health problems. Those who do not dream is abnormal. "Everybody dreams unless there has been significant damage to the brain. Some people are just
better at remember their dreams than others." (Riha)

Dream and different dream theories
We dream every day. Sometimes people remember what they dream, and sometime people forget what they dream about. There is a possibility of
forgetting the dreams by the time a person gets out of bed. It is thought that everyone dreams between 3 to 6 times per night, and it lasts between 5 to
20 minutes. Adream is something that we experienced during sleep. Our dream can include images, thoughts, and emotions. It can be vivid or very
confusing. Images in a dream are sometimes symbols for things in everyday life. As compared to men, women dream about family, children, and indoor
settings. However, there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During sleep, conscious experience is driven by internally generated stimuli that have no apparent behavioral consequences. According to Freud,
dreams symbolizes unconscious wishes and that analysis of dream symbols could uncover our hidden desires.
There are five phases of sleep in a sleep cycle; phase 1 – light sleep with slow movement of eye which forms 4–5% of total sleep, phase 2 – eye
movement stops and brain waves becomes slower which forms 45–55%of total sleep, phase 3 – extremely slow brain waves which comprises 4–6% of
total sleep, phase 4 –deep sleep phase with no eye movement or muscle activity which forms 12–15% of total sleep, and phase 5– it is also called REM
sleep where breathing becomes more rapid, irregular and shallow, and it forms 20–25% of total sleep time (Nichols, 2017).
I went to Texas last month to visit friends and family. My friend and I had a conversation about her friend who got divorced around ten years ago.
She was planning to get married to a man who she knew for couple of years. I saw their wedding pictures in a Facebook last week. The only thing I
knew was they got married, but I had this dream 3 days ago where the guy was torturing his wife. The reason for him torturing his wife was his
family as his family was against the wedding. In the dream, I was with his wife trying to save her from him, and I did save her

A Dream Without My Dream
Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain Martin Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the
world. Imagine what the world would be like if no one had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn't have any of the great inventions that are present
today. There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole of the United States probably wouldn't have been
discovered if it wasn't Christopher Columbus' dream to find India, and we'd probably all be running about wearing loin clothes in the dark like shown in
the Flintstones!
That is, if the human race didn't end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had dreams , and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up
at 4 o' clock in the morning staring out my window daydreaming. Although chances are that I'm not really day dreaming if it's 4 in the morning right?
Ok, so I guess night dreaming– but you know, without the sleeping.
A smile grew across the brown haired boy's face as the thought of his black haired best friend popped into his head. They had known eachother since

He had been thinking of him all night. As he did pretty much every second of the day since they were about, oh let's say 10? He hadn't even realised
that he had feelings for Phil at that point, but it didn't stop him from always wanting to be with him and gushing

Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams
One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of watching a film, but not that we are in a dream, which is an
important difference that can have interesting consequences for answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly, Curry argues that in dreams we have a
bi–sociative character, meaning that we have both the sense of being in the dream and being a spectator in it, this is an interesting phenomenon,
however, I think that this also exists in "normal" everyday experience in the form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we
can have an awareness that we are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams. Looking at the similarities between film and dreams is
an interesting avenue to examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence to show that dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it
answer the question if a dream is even like a film, all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of a dream as a film, if
you imagine a device that can record your dreams and then project it onto a screen and watch the dream on the screen then the dream would act as if
it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned above. But, there would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi–sociative
character (Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is possible to imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the
argument for a

A Dream : Having A Dream
Having a dream and living with passion is very important because I believe living without passion is like being dead. Someone like Tony Hawk
could agree. Tony Hawk has been a professional skateboarder for over 24 years. However, he did not receive that title overnight; Tony got his first
skateboard when he was only 9 years old. Since then, Tony worked extremely hard and put a lot of his focus on skateboarding. He did it because that
was his Dream. Tony's Dream was frowned upon by many of his teachers and adults alike. One of his teachers even told him that he "would never
make it in the workplace if he didn't follow directions exactly" (Hawk), but he never gave up his Dream. He kept working hard and eventually became
a pro at the young age of 15.
I want to follow my dreams. I believe everyone should follow their dreams and be happy. I feel that I relate to Ying Ying Yu a lot because when I

my high grades and my slightly above average IQ. For the next 4 years following, I thought that was what I wanted to do with my life. I thought that
was what would make me happiest. However recently, I've been thinking about that a lot recently. I would always find myself doubting myself. Do I

My Dreams Of The American Dream
The wide field, brimmed primarily with yellow, sprouting, lush, wild flowers and tall green grass, swayed gently in the crisp breeze. Deep within an
abundance of towering pine trees, where the bluebirds chirped and the frogs croaked, babbled a crooked creek. The air was filled with the smell of
moist bark and sweet blossoms, the sound of bees buzzing, and the feeling of serenity. I had lived in my very own oasis where all of my childhood
dreams were born. I dreamed of all my "firsts", my first kiss, my first love, my first high school dance, my first varsity soccer game in the stadium
under the lights, my first day as a college student in a foreign city, my first paycheck as an employee, and countless more. My siblings and I staged and
acted out various versions of the perfect little family with the house located in the countryside surrounded by the white picket fence to complete the
stereotypical American Dream. My imagination was sparked by this magical sanctuary where I led my siblings in the pursuit of our hopes and dreams
for a future that now in retrospect seemed untouchable.
Where every day brought another game and every hour brought another challenge, I was the queen and I could achieve anything and conquer the world.
I was unbeatable, the strongest, the fastest and the bravest. On certain days our old oak tree would transform into a mighty, pirate ship reeking of
saltwater and seaweed, sailing the Indian Ocean and I would lead us to find buried treasures fighting

The American Dream : A Comparison Of The American Dream?
Have you ever heard the expression "American Dream"? You most probably have, however, have you ever thought what this concept could actually
mean and how it is related to your life? If we simply ask most people about their peculiar understanding of the American Dream, the majority of
answers can be easily shortened to a simple one: the American dream is to become successful, to be a master of one's own destiny and to enjoy the
freedom in its utmost expression. However, there is no direct or absolutely clear definition of the American dream, as it is viewed by people on the
basis of their different worldviews, mental perception, sociological status and time background. Yes, it is definitely heterogeneous as far as different
epochs are taken into account. It can hardly be imagined that the American dream cherished, for example, by George Washington, Martin Luther King
or by a fictional character Jay Gatsby, were ideologically similar. However, the American dream for anyperson and for any epoch has always been
based on the following pillars: freedom, equality, control over one's destiny and an incessant pursuit of one's dream.
Concentrating on becoming successful, dreaming to twist one's life from ordinary existence to something truly meaningful and accomplishing one's
ultimate dreams are the drives that can lead a person to tremendous achievements. To be honest, we, people who live in America, feel free to act, to
defend our own political, cultural, religious, moral views

Theories Of Dream Analysis: What Are Dreams?
What are dreams
Dreams are episodes of thoughts, feelings and visions that take place involuntarily when humans sleep. They are experienced universally and they are
categorized into cognitive, sensory and emotional occurrences. In normal dreams the dreamer cannot control the images and content of their dreams
however there is a type of dreaming called lucid dreaming in which dreamers have control over their dreams. However this is rare and normally needs
preparation. Dreams are normally cover things that preoccupy and worry us due to the fact that they are constructed using our emotions. In this respect
they can help us overcome problems and shape us as humans. Often dreams contain themes, objects and experiences which are similar to our waking ...

Freud And Dreams
A dream is an involuntary sequence of images, ideas, stories, emotions, or sensations that occur during certain stages of sleep. Dreams can be pleasant
or frightening; vivid or hazy; comprehensible or confusing. The purpose of why humans dream still remains an unsolved mystery within the scientific
community. It might seem odd that something seemingly so ordinary and familiar could be such a complex puzzle. In ancient times, people used
dreams to diagnose illnesses, predict the future, and receive messages from the gods. Over the years, several scientist have voiced their opinions as to
why humans dream; some even believe that dreams serve no purpose at all. Even so, there has not been a single theory that has been accepted as the
overall consensus among behavioral scientists. One of the most well known theories as to why humans dream was established by neurologist, Sigmund
Freud. He claimed that the purpose of dreaming is wish fulfillment. Freud believed that the unconscious mind protects the conscious mind by censoring
the explicit nature of genuine human desires (Montenegro, 314). The unconscious mind then expresses these images through dreams. Freud believed
that the manifest content (the actual dream itself) was symbolic and had an underlying latent content (hidden psychological meaning of the dream). ...

Jung believed that the purpose of dreaming is to integrate the conscious mind with the unconscious mind. He also thought that dreams do not need to
be interpreted because they are relatively straightforward and natural expressions of the imagination (Turner). He also said that the mixture of
conscious and unconscious can help solve problems because they tell which part of the psyche is out of balance (Green). This theory can also help
people cope with trauma and prepare people for future trauma in the form of threat simulation sometimes in the form of nightmares

Personal Narrative : Dreams : A Dream As A Dream
Looking back on that night, it seems more like a dream than a reality. And yet, it must have been real. Dreams don't feel that real. Plus, I still have his

It was the night of the school dance, and I was furious. Why? Because not a single one of the stupid guys in my stupid class had asked me to the
dance. Which was totally unfair. Most of the girls here were vacuous ignoramuses who's entire existence was comprised of whining about things that
didn't matter and no one cared about and talking about which guys were cuter. And me, the only reasonably smart girl in class who actually knew
anything? I didn't have a date. Not that I liked any of the guys here, but they could have at least had the decency to ask me. ... Show more content on

This time as I stood up and walked to the door with a lot more caution. Then I opened the door as little as possible and slipped outside into the cool

A couple of deep breaths later I was sitting with my back against one of the trees planted outside our gymnasium, which was currently our dance hall,
staring up at the sky. The night was gorgeous. Stars were everywhere in the vast welkin (I loved that word), more than I'd ever seen before. Most of
the life I could remember had been spent in the city, where the sky was nothing but black on nights. When I'd moved here last winter, the thousands of
little lights that appeared every night had enchanted me. They were quite possibly the only good thing about moving to Eastside.
Back at home I'd had good friends, things to do, places I could go. Here me and my dad were replacing a loved family that had moved away because
their oldest daughter had died here and they couldn't bear the place anymore. So people thought of us as uncaring and rude because we'd replaced them.
Because dad had finally gotten together enough money to buy a house in the country. That had been his and mom's dream.
Needless to say, we weren't very popular. Some of the girls were nice, but they made certain I knew it was only out of a sense of duty, not because

Dreams are the reader's view into the minds of the characters. According to the Psychoanalytical Theory, dreams show a character's subconscious
desires because in dreams there are no social rules. This is very prominent in the novel,Crime and Punishment, written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Throughout this novel the main character Raskolnikov endures numerous nightmares. Raskolnikov's nightmares give the reader insight into
Raskolnikov's subconscious desires. Throughout the novel the dreams take place at very important points in Raskolnikov's life. The placement and
content of the dreams give the reader insight into Raskolnikov's mind. The reader know exactly what Raskolnikov is thinking about at that period of
time in his life. Without the dreams, the reader would not feel or understand all the anguish that Raskolnikov is enduring throughout the book. By ...

Dreams And Dreams
Every single one of us dreams and each one is experienced at a personal level, but interpreting them and figuring what they actually mean is still a
mystery to us all. The histories of dreams, dates all the way back to over 5,000 years ago. These were the times where they would still write things
down on clay tablets. Even then, we were already interested in what dreams meant. During the Greek and Roman eras, dreams were perceived in a
religious sense. If they were good dreams, they would be interpreted as a gift from God, while bad ones were from the demons. (Dream Moods, 2013)
As stated by Cope (2015), Egyptians held such a high value on dreams that they had a temple that was devoted to dreaming. There were also dream
interpreters that would decipher these dreams. If they had any psychological problems, then they would have the priests interpret them instead. The
people that would interpret these dreams were highly respected. Cope also addressed that Ancient Greeks used dreams to predict the future and find
solutions to problems. Around the 5th century, the concepts about dreams were starting to evolve. Many different philosophers were making up their
own theories. The first philosopher was Heraclitus, and he believed that the dreams were coming from the dreamer's mind entirely. Second, we have
Plato saying that it could show a person how to live their life. Third was Hippocrates, the founder of modern medicine, and he concluded that the
dreams could convey an

Although most vibrant dreams occur during deep sleep, REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, when a person's brain is more active. Most people tend to
have at least 4 to 6 dreams per night while in REM sleep. While everyone dreams during sleep, but not everyone remembers. Scientist aren't quite sure

Dreams during other sleep stages typically are more ordinary, like dreaming that you are getting dressed or making coffee. Dreams during REM sleep
are more likely to be remembered because they are weird and exciting. Overall, we can dream in REM or non–REM sleep, but we can also have REM
sleep without dreaming.
According to WebMD, while some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning and are nonsensical activities of the sleeping brain, some
experts say that dreams exist to help solve problems in our lives, incorporate memories, and process emotions. This can be supported with the
expression, "sleep on it". After a good night sleep people tend to wake up with the solution to problems or they tend to feel better about the situation.
Sigmund Freud believed that dreams were a window into our subconscious that revealed a person's thoughts, motivations and unconscious desires. In
Exploring Psychology, William Domhoff believed that even if dreams were symbolic they could be interpreted any way one wished and that "there
is no reason to believe any of Freud's specific claims about dreams and their purposes." A 2013 study performed by researcher at the Lyon
Neuroscience Research Center and University of Lyon found that, "people who tend to experience deep sleep with few to no interruptions are less

Dreams And Its Effects On Dreams
Dream content reflects aspects of waking–life experiences. After memories are made, they are often fragmentally merged with other information to
construct larger, holistic dreams. Autobiographical memories are predominantly represented in dreams in comparison to episodic and semantic
memories. Among various characteristics from waking–life experiences such as places, people, and events, emotions are highly incorporated into dream
content. There is also a decreasing relationship between the cognitive demand of an activity and the frequency in which that activity occurs in dreams.
Dreams tend to include material from experiential memories and events from the preceding day as well as experiences from 5–7 days prior. The
recurrence of memory content in dreams seems to support the hypothesis that dreaming helps with memory consolidation, or particularly the content
which is reflected in dreams.

Introduction
Dreaming, although a substantial component of our nighttime lives, remains somewhat of an enigma due to the fact that it occurs while we are
unconscious. The inaccessibility of the unconscious mind weakens full analysis and comprehension of dreaming which researchers have been
attempting to accomplish. However, over the years many researchers have elucidated many mysteries about dreams, such as when we dream, why we
dream, and what we dream about, in order to bring forth an understanding of dreams as well as identify

What are Dreams?
Dreams are sequences of images, emotions, ideas, and sensations that occur involuntarily to the mind during different stages of sleep. They can be
filled with joy, hate, anger or disturbing images, they can be clear and understandable or be very confusing and hazy. Dreams have intrigued many
people for quite some time, this alternate reality in which we escape in the unconscious state. Much different than the reality we see from day to day.
Have captured interest in many people as to interpret why do we dream? Most people believe that dreams have significance and Meaning behind them.
Some are very vivid and powerful that they are just too hard to ignore, so most disregard that they are meaningless. The world of dreams contains
intriguing details and unexpected events that spark our attention in the psychology of Dream Interpretation.
Some people say they do not dream because they cannot recall the dreams in reality they just are not remembering them. After about 90 minutes of
inactivity during sleep, your brain becomes intensely alert, even though you do not awaken .When dreams began to occur we are in a state of
sleep known as "REM sleep" which means Rapid eye movement. Your eyes are moving rapidly even though they are still closed during this state and
your brain stays very active and busy while in REM sleep. Brain waves while in REM sleep look very similar to brain waves in a conscious state while
they do look different in other stages of sleep. In the psychology view of

Dreams And Dreams Are Important Or Meaningless Essay
Dreams have been around since the beginning of time. There is often controversy over whether or not dreams are important or meaningless.
Although many people believe that dreams are pointless and have no meanings to them, research and experimentation show that there can be many
different interpretations of dreams. Dreams are "hallucinations of the sleeping mind" (Loftus & Ketcham). Dreams can be very vivid, loud, and
even emotional. This is why it is easy to confuse them with reality. Dreams are kind of like taking all of a person's wishes and emotions and
putting them all in a little "shadow world" (Bynum) when they go to sleep at night. "What is common in all these dreams is obvious. They
completely satisfy wishes excited during the day which remain unrealized. They are simply and undisguisedly realizations of wishes." (Freud). A
person may be experiencing an emotion or wishing for something without even realizing it at all. Dreams can sometimes show a person how they are
truly feeling without even their own awareness of these feelings or wishes. A lot of a person's reality and emotions are used in their dreams, however,
this is not always the case. Dreams can also be extremely bizarre, confusing, and even repetitive. This is where the interpretation of dreams comes into
action. Many people find it hard to believe that when they have a dream over and over again that it does not mean anything. These types of dreams are
called recurring dreams. Recurring dreams happen

Dream In The American Dream
The American Dream, has stereotypically branded a permanent mental image of a successful and stunning married couple standing in front of their
perfect white picket fence, 1.5 children, and in the back ground is their classic, cookie–cutter, utopian house. However, this idea has wrongly become
the standard model to living a successful life. This "American Dream' now excludes a large, diverse group of people; the poor and the immigrants who
have given everything to migrate and relocate only to have their dreams become farther away from reality. This harsh, and rather unrealistic, utopian
mental picture does not accurately show the dreams of all people, and is only merely a dream society has portrayed. Millennials especially, have taken
note and are reacting with very different mindsets than the generations that have come before them. The millennials desire more and are attempting to
make a change. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to understand. Dreams have strange concepts that some people do not fully comprehend,
especially ones that seem out of range. However, fantasy is an essential component in surviving. Dreams and goals differ, yet are constantly mixed up,
confused and misused. The terms are unique in their own ways, have very distinct aspects but somehow still become intertwined. People's modern
goals typically include graduating school, getting a degree, obtaining a job and becoming successful enough to have a decent paycheck that supports all

The average amount a human will sleep in their lifetime is 229,961 hours. Part of those 229,961 hours sleeping is spent dreaming. What are dreams?
This question has fascinated the human race throughout history. From the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to Sigmund Freud in the late 1800's, till now,
people have queried what the mystical stories that play out in the sleeping mind are and why we have them. The Sumerians in Mesopotamia left
evidence of dreams dating back to 3100 BC. According to these stories, gods and kings, like the 7th century BC scholar–king Assurbanipal, paid close
attention to dreams. In his archive of clay tablets, some accounts of the story of the legendary king Gilgamesh were found (Seligman). The

During this stage, many people experience sudden muscle contractions preceded by a sensation of falling. In stage 2, eye movement stops and
brain waves become slower with only an occasional burst of rapid brain waves. When a person enters stage 3, extremely slow brain waves called delta
waves are interspersed with smaller, faster waves. In stage 4, the brain produces delta waves almost exclusively. Stages 3 and 4 are referred to as
deep sleep or delta sleep, and it is very difficult to wake someone from them. In deep sleep, there is no eye movement or muscle activity. This is when
some children experience bedwetting, sleepwalking or night terrors. Usually, REM sleep occurs 70–90 minutes after someone has fall asleep. The first
period of REM typically lasts 10 minutes. Each REM stage gets longer, and the final one may last up to an hour. A sleeping individual's heart rate and
breathing quickens. People experience more intense dreams during REM sleep, since the brain is more active. Dreams are constantly occurring
throughout the sleep cycle so do not believe anyone who says they do not dream. Sleep and dreaming causes improved brain activity enabling people to
function more productively. Matthew Wilson, a neuroscientist at the Picower Institute at M.I.T., during the early 1990s, was recording the neuron
activity in the brains of rats as they navigated through a difficult maze. The machines translated

Dreams
Throughout our dreaming experience, we feel different sensations, emotions, and thoughts interpreted through images in a person's mind. During our
unconscious process, the meanings of our inner thoughts are experienced through dreams. Some psychologists believe dreams are connected to our real
emotions and others may see dreams as a specific meaning related to one's life (Young). Dreams can put us in touch with our real motives in life due to
the connection they have to reality, but other opinions are believed to be that dreams are simply processing memories letting go of emotional thoughts
throughout your day (Hamilton–Parker).
For hundreds of years, people have been questioning why they are dreaming what they are. Dreams incorporate deeper meanings and past experiences
to express the information in the form of visual images. Through the process of dreaming and imagining, we as humans have the ability to experience
the world and use our mind to explore our imagination (Berman). Dreaming is a way to stabilize our thought process and cleanse the mind. We
discover that every aspect in a dream is manifesting itself in some way in our everyday lives (Springett).
There are many different theories evaluating the meaning of our dreams and how they are generated. In the 1900's Sigmund Freud developed a way to
interpret our dreams through a process of understanding symbols that appear in our dreams (Young). He explained

The Purpose of Dreams
Dreams are a very ponderous things. Simply saying, dreams are a stream of images, sounds, and
the actions of something; like a movie. But never have dreams been able to be explained. The
Greeks and Romans claimed that dreams were signs from their gods and had prophetic magic
(www.scientificamerican.com). Even though the purpose of dreams has not been discovered, a
huge movement in the study of dreams occurred at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1952,
scientists in Chicago discovered electrical readings during a certain stage of sleep. When woken
up in this stage, people almost always remember their dreams. This stage is the only stage of
sleep where we dream, and it is known as the REM stage (YouTube.com).

But dreams are a kind of "temporary storage" area
of consciousness, a spot where we hold memories before we move them from short–term to long–

our memory." (10 theories that explain why we dream)
The next theory is referred to as "garbage collection". This states that we only dream to
organize and get rid of unwanted ideas or memories. Now this is the main focus of many
theories, but with other details. This theory just focuses on removing unwanted memories. This
theory also states that we forget our dreams because we are looking though our memories and
then discarding them. So basically, our dreams are a replay of our memories. (10 theories that
explain why we dream)
Now this next theory is the exact opposite of the last. It is known as "reviewing what we
know". This idea of why we dream says that dreams are a way for our brain to review what
we've learned. This theory is based off of the research that proves that after taught something and
the patients sleep, they can remember and are better at what they were taught. (10 theories that

The next theory is a simple idea, with little information to prove it. In this theory it is
believed that we dream as a way to "play dead". The brain acts as if awake, but isn't. People
who study this theory believe that since

It Is A Dream Essay
When somebody thinks about a dream they think about something big like being a millionaire but it could just be to get a dream job or go
somewhere in the world. I believe that it is worth is to dream. In the end a dream gives someone something to work for at life and to keep pushing
on for it also makes them feel good to look forward to something in the future say that they finally get to go to that place that they have dreamt of
going to the anticipation of them going there make them feel good about themselves because they worked so hard for it. In class we read books
about dreams we read documents about dreams and how some people believe in dreams and how some people don't. We talked to other people in our
class and what their opinion was on dreams.
I believe it is worth it to dream because it gives a person something to work for. Some people believe that if somebody just sits around and dreams,
then it will come true. Some people now how dreams work, they have to work for a dream rather than just sitting and waiting their whole life. We can
also see evidence of this in the book The Pearl By John Steinbeck where Kino's dream was to provide a healthy living for his family and he never gave

The Dream Of A Lucid Dream
It is said that a lucid dream is a dream that can be induced or controlled and is characterized by the dreamer being aware that he or she is dreaming
(Lucid). When lucidity occurs, the dreamer "wakes up" inside the dream during fixed states of cognizance. Dreams are caused by things "...our mind
knows, however which we cannot handle, is disturbing or something that we keep reiterating to ourselves" (Ganguly). This is why distinguishing
significant dream symbols from ambient symbols is important for attempting this state. Many people propose dream interpretation to help better
understand the conscious state, but some are said to lucid dream to not only control the dream, but to elate themselves while asleep. When experts are
asked why people dream, the answers prove indecisive. Some claims have been that dreams are caused by hidden desires, impressions, or how things
are perceived; but, of course the imagination and the hidden ways of the brain interact with these druthers. Neurologists and psychologists have strived
to reach an understanding of how brains put dreams together. Some believe Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung have done just that. Although both have
different ways of going about things, both the arguments are compelling and sophisticated; however, each psychologist have key differences that could
make all the difference when finding the "truth" about lucid dreaming.

Most of the time, I am a vivid and active dreamer. I would have dreams very often some more realistic than others. In my dreams, I could feel
everything and perceive everything around as if it where reality. Nightmares or bad dreams would be the worst because I'd feel trapped in my dream
and actually feeling all the emotions, fear and tensions that arise without being able to wake up. From time to time, my dreams would make sense and
actually mean something. Other times it would be non–sense or just my imagination. From time to time, I would have dreams that actually happen. The
events that played out in my dream would occur in the chronology as they did in my dream. Somewhat oblivious to those dreams, I would put no effort
into further understanding why these dreams occurred. One day, my dream was more than just a dream.
When I was fourteen, I had a dream about my grandfather. One might ask how could I remember a dream from over four years ago but this dream
changed my life as well as his. My grandfather and I had a good relationship and he was in good health. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. In
my dream, I was watching the events play out as if I was watching a movie. Although the dream was foggy or blurry, I saw everything that happened.
My grandmother was sitting in the kitchen area in the same seat she always did watching a T.V. program. My grandfather walked out of the bedroom

Dreams: A Short Essay: Importance Of Dreams
Chapter 5.Importance of Dreams
A natural physiological activity that we as humans do on a nightly basis is going to sleep and dreaming. We must sleep to recharge our minds and
bodies. When you don't get enough sleep you may feel a little "out of it" the next day. When you do not get your beauty rest for a long period of time,
you could actually develop mental disorders.
Sleeping is clearly important, but just like sleeping dreaming is also very important to us. It is safe to say that most of the time you may not remember
dreams, but that doesn't mean you did not have them. Research on sleep and dreams show that adults typically dream every 90 minutes or so.
That means that you may have about 4–6 dreams when you get an 8 hr sleep. Just as we need sleep to function, we also need to dream. In a study

Research shows that when we sleep the mind is re–awakened. There is a difference between the awake mind and the sleeping one.
Only some areas of our mind are awakened and are involved in dreaming. Scientists also have learned now that dreaming primarily occurs in the
limbic region of the brain which is the area that deals with our emotions. Thus, we seem to be able to account for the highly emotional nature of dreams.
Our most vivid dreams happen during a phase of sleep called REM which stands for Rapid Eye Movement. People who get woken up during the
REM phase usually cannot remember their dreams, where people who wake up during the NREM phase (Non–Rapid–Eye–Movement) can remember
their dreams a little better by about 15%. The types of dreams people report during the REM phase also seem to be bizarre and the kind where one
knows s/he is dreaming.
Now that you are aware of the important of dreaming and sleeping, ensure that you get enough of both each and every night.

Dreams are stories our mind creates while we are asleep. Dreams can be witty, cheerful, passionate, disturbing, horrific, and downright confusing. All
my life I have always wondered what goes on in our brains when we dream. I also have wondered why our brains create dreams. Are dreams
something the brain creates to make sense of what it views so it organizes images into coherent stories. Dream content also varies depending on life
experience. A child will dream of candy and toys but an adult will dream of love and their future. Dreams are just random stories you get every now

Tracing dreams back to the beginning of time people have always tried to interpret dreams and understand their meaning. Scientist today discover
more and more about dreams and why we have them, someday we will understand why we have them. A dream Is a series of thoughts, images, and
sensations that occur in a person's mind during sleep. The scientific study of dreams is called Oneirology. Dreams can be caused by many things but
what scientist today believe, is that dreams occur due to chemicals being released in the body while you're sleeping. When you fall asleep the
neurotransmitter in your brain releases gamma–aminobutyric acid. Gamma–aminobutyric acid is released to dampen nerve activity in the brain which
leads to the feeling of calm and relaxation. Gamma–aminobutyric acid is also prescribed to people who suffer from ADHD. Another chemical that is
released in your body's melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone made by your body's pineal gland. The pineal gland is located in the middle of the brain.
This chemical stays in the body for around 12 hours or all through the night. Melatonin increases the number of dreams a person remembers by
prolonging the amount of time spent in REM sleep. This chemical also increases the chances of a person experiencing a lucid dream. A lucid dream is
being more self–aware in a dream and being able to control that dream. The last chemical that is released in the body is oxytocin. Oxytocin is

Dreams And Sigmund Freud's Theory Of Dreams
There are many theories about why we dream, some say dreams have no meaning or purpose, others say dreams are required for emotional, physical
and mental health. According to the activation– synthesis model of dreaming theory circuits in the brain become activated during the REM cycle,
which causes areas in the limbic system involved in memories, emotions and sensations become activated (verywell.com/why–do–we–dream
–top–dream–theories–2795931). Sigmund Freud's theory on dreams suggested that dreams represented unconscious desires, thoughts and motivations
(verywell.com/Freudian–theory–2795845). Though these thoughts are not consciously expressed, Freud suggested they make their way into awareness
via dreams.
Some people have dreams that are so normal that the dreamers feel as if they're awake and conscious, this is known as lucid dreams. Sometimes
dreams are so real it's hard to determine between the dream and reality.

He believed by examining dreams he can understand how the unconscious mind works and what it is trying to hide from conscious awareness. Freud
broke down dreams into two different types, the manifest content of the dream and the latent content. The manifest content of the dream contains all
the images, events, and thoughts contained in the dream, this is fundamentally what the dreamer remembers upon waking. The latent content is all the
hidden and symbolic meanings within the dream. Freud believed that dreams were essentially a form of wish fulfillment, by taking those unconscious

with the help of his family members and a previously undiscovered hobby. Bret was influenced by his brother to start running, which ended up
changing his life in ways he would never have imagined. Within this essay, Friedman describes Bret's journey of navigating the difficulties of life after

achieving this dream through the inclusion of characters' thoughts and actions. This narrative technique reveals the idea that dreams are not always ...

Bret's dream is initialized with the help of his mother; she plays a central role in shaping Bret's attitude on life after his accident. She is constantly
described as a hard woman, and she knew in order for her son to survive, he would have to be hardened as well. After the accident, "she might have
softened, might have let you [Bret] slide when things were toughest...but she didn't" (Friedman 335). She forced him to become independent
through simple tasks such as not allowing him to have a wheelchair and making him button his own shirt. Bret's dream of being useful coincides
with his mother's hopes for him, which is explained in Friedman's description of her: "Your mother is a hard woman who has no time for religion
but who is sure we should all seek God, to try to understand what our gift is, to be useful" (Friedman 350). The narrator includes the mother's
thoughts and actions because they play an important role in deciphering whether Bret's dream is shared. Because their two goals are so similar, we
are lead to question whether the dream story in this essay is relevant to only one person. Perhaps his desire to find a place in society was his mother's
dream all along, and he simply adopted the idea as his own. His mother's dream for him to live independently was born from the damage left by his
accident. This destruction inflicted upon Bret shaped not only his own life desires but also his mother's wishes.

The Dreams Of Dreams By Carl Jung
Every night people lay their heads down to rest in hopes of having a good night's sleep and as you sleep during the night, dreams occur. Some
remember more than others. However, a dream is always present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity
of dream interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there which drove psychologists to go out and study them.
(The Dream Experience Chapter 1) Dreams are a very complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from dream
simply being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund Freud's who believed that there is a deeper meaning
behind dreams that is driven by sexual aggression. Carl Jung's theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general, believed dreams
had a different meaning from what the dream actually shows. Several theories and several explanations for dream causes great disagreement between
scientists and psychologists. (You are What you Dream) Throughout time, however, other theories of dreaming have come about after Freud's. Freud's
theory is, to this say, questioned, by psychologists around the world. Is Freud's theory still hold up in the 21st century? Freud's theory of dreams
which is extremely abstract when it relates to other theories such as Carl Jung's and Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. Freud's theory for the most

Holding On To The Dream : Holding On To The Dream
Holding on to the Dream
I chose this poem because people need dreams because without dreams then humans lose the point of living. Dreams could be anything from living
a holy life to be an example to others or the dream could be just making it through college. Since people without a dream are do not know what the
point of living is then people need to have a goal and need to hold on to it. This poem helps the reader see that every needs a dream.
Langston Hughes, the author of the "Dream Deferred," had a difficult childhood because of family issues they had. His parents divorced when he
was born; his father move to Mexico, Langston and his mom had to move in this Langston's grandma (The Life and Work of Langston Hughes).
Growing up with only one parent is very hard and makes for several changes. One of those challenges was having hope for the future because the
times were not favorable to black.
This poem is important because it reminds us to hold onto our dreams in turn helps us have hope for the future. Many people have lost hope because
they let go of their dreams. This makes for a generation that is depressed because they have no hope that life will get better. Langston did the contrary
of this generation; when he had no hope nor dream he made a dream. He made something that was worth living for.
In "Dream Deferred" it very helps one to see that dream are very important because without a dream then it can become difficult to see what the point
of living life. Langston

Essay Dreams

  • 1. Essay dreams Dreams have long fascinated the human race. This alternate reality, separate from the conscious world we see around us, has captured the interest of many people throughout history. In fact, mankind has been studying dreams since the invention of the written word. Perhaps the lure of dreams is that there seems to be some significance behind them. Most reject the idea that dreams are just random meaningless fragments of data. The vivid sensations that dreams create are just too powerful to ignore. The world of dreams is filled with peculiar phenomenon and unexpected events that beg our attention. Consider the following example of a dream: I was in a fairly large square room; the room was dark...I was sitting on the floor against the wall...In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this kind of thinking did not last long. A Greek philosopher in the 5th Century named Heraclitus was probably the first to suggest that dreams actually originated from within. He stated that each individual's dreams were unique and were products of his own mind. Socrates and Plato followed where Heraclitus left off, corroborating his theory with their own research. Finally it was Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that dreams were attempts at divine communication. His practical approach to dream research paved the way for future scholars such as Freud and Jung. Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could sometimes provide insight into one's personal problems. (Parker 10–15) In 1899, more than two thousand years after Aristotle, Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams and "modern dream psychology was born" (Fontana 26). Freud looked down on other methods of dream interpretation because they were too rigid. Psychologists would create lists of dream symbols along with their meaning so that they could quickly look up the meaning of a dream. Freud believed that each person associated dream symbols with different things. For example, a ship going through a storm could represent a difficult time at work for one person, but it could represent a health problem for someone else. Freud developed his own method of dream interpretation, which he called free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Dreams And The Subconscious : Dreams Essay Dreams and the Subconscious Are dreams a way of processing life events, or are they really messages from the subconscious? This phenomenon has always interested me, and I am extremely grateful this opportunity has arisen for me to research dreams in more depth. Since childhood, I have been intrigued with dreams and how similar they can be for each person. For instance, many people have recurring nightmares of being chased. According to Huffington Post, being chased is one of the most common dreams. The dream is so vivid and creates such anxiety within you, that you tend to wake up distressed. Surprisingly, being chased in your dream is not the important part, however, looking behind you at what you 're running from is. Chase dreams alert you to look deeper at situations you have been avoiding. This is important because dreams can help you realize areas in your life that need to be addressed (DreamsCloud). I have found many theories about dreams and some are contradictory. Some experts base dream analysis on physiological symbols and their messages and others base theirs on scientific theories. It is greatly debated whether or not dreams have meaning or are merely the limbic system processing the day 's events. Various influences need to be considered when analyzing a dream such as your environment and emotions. I, for one, am a strong believer in the meaning of dreams, and often follow their guidance when making real–life decisions. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dreams : What Are Dreams? What are dreams? Are they the mind's way of entertaining itself while you sleep, or are they your unconscious trying to tell you something? If you chose the ladder, you are on the right track. The mind can't talk to you, you don 't hear voices in your head unless you are a Schizophrenic. The only way that our unconscious mind has a way to communicate, is when you are asleep. The idea that dreams are trying to tell you something is simple, but understanding what the dream is trying to say can be difficult, as dreams can often be complex and seem to make no sense. Amongst the nonsense of dreams, their true meaning is wish fulfillment. Dreams allow people to understand their unconscious wants and fears, but are never presented in a clear fashion; therefore, one needs to unravel their true meaning. I had a strange anxiety dream a couple of nights ago. I was in my current house, in my living room, when suddenly I look around and the walls are covered with dozens bugs. They are not normal sized but huge, like something from the cretaceous period. Some look like oversized centipedes and other like huge beetles, but many of them I can't recognize. They all seem to have large legs and move quickly. Suddenly I have a gallon of home defense bug spray and I aggressively try to spray them all. For some reason the ceiling and walls are abnormally high and I can't reach all the bugs, and the ones I can reach seem to not be dying. In real life bugs terrify me, and in the dream the sight of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dreams And Dreams The humankind throughout history has tried to learn and figure out the meaning of dreaming. The interpretations and true meanings of dreams has expanded and has varied over centuries and cultures. Many of the earlier studies were based on culture's and the interpretation of dreams, but also used as a form of prophecy, inspiration, and guidance. Many people still believe this such, people today beliefs and theories have opened up to a more vast interpretation, they are made up of; dreams are rare brain activity, dreams allow people to reflect on themselves, or that dreams are too massive to be correctly interpret. Although, not a single theory has been proven to this day, science as of why dreams occur is still a mystery. However, the true exact meaning of dreaming hasn 't been proven, there has been new ideas, different methods to advances to both a psychological, science understanding of when it began and how it functions. What some of the studies have concluded is that dreams are a certain phase of the brain 's activities, that the mind experiences while you are sleep; sounds, pictures, ideas, and feelings. Both psychologists and scientist have theorized that dreaming is made up of the person's mind, that ranges from being rare, normal, scary, and ordinary. Having the power to awaken only to wonder what the dream you had last night was about, or even try to find the cause of a dream, but not knowing the truth about it can leave a lot of mystery behind. • 5. Is A Dream Lost In The American Dream A Dream Lost? America is often thought to be the land of opportunity, where dreams come true, where people leave behind their old lives running from corruption, poverty, famine, or could just simply be looking for greater opportunity. Is this really what America is today, do these dreams still really exist in the common folk who wish to make something come true, make the "American Dream" come true. In the poem I, too sing America by Langston Hughes the people of story express how they are living in the shadows of others, how their looked over in society. America too has lost its luster ofhope and the reputation that held behind the name "America". In Let America be America Again Langston Hughes again demonstrates how America has lost its luster where he says, "Let America be the dream dreamers dreamed." In this quote Langton Hughes tells us how America has changed, that it's different from when the first dreamers created the land of dreams that America once was. The American dream is a something that is highly based on perspective, from the perspective of a second class citizen named Walter Lee from A Raisin in the Sun, a play by Lorraine Hansberry Walter cries, "All of it, it's all gone...." In this Walter just learned that the money he had received from his father's death was stolen. He had been wanting the money to try to invest and make something of himself, for himself, for his family, but all that is lost in the blink of an eye. This is how Walter's dream died before ... • 6. My Dreams I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. The town my parents decided to raise my brothers and I wasn't a place where you had the means to pursue your dreams. My parents were young and naive thinking that they could raise a family at such a young age. Although we had a place to sleep and food to eat, we were barely getting by. Coming home every day from selling snacks in front of the local school, my brothers and I were greeted with my mother 's smile but we could all tell the twinge of sadness hiding itself behind her smile. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood, the kids around the block knew each other very well; we could understand each other because of our situations. In some nights the neighbourhood kids would gather around the abandoned house just around the corner from where I lived. We would talk about our dreams of going away to the city and our unrealistic hopes of becoming a millionaire overnight. We all knew that was impossible, but one can dream. I–for the longest time–dreamt of becoming a teacher. When I was younger I knew it would only be a dream, it would never become a reality. But as I grew up watching "children who don't dream, or dismiss their own desires", I knew I wanted to make something out of myself, to prove those that said I couldn't, that I could. I wanted to make my dreams a reality. When I voiced these feelings to my family, my father laughed at me. I sat there at our worn down dinner table and fiddled with my thumbs. Why's that funny? I can do it, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Dreams : A Lucid Dream Being able to understand what dreams represent and how they effect a person should be something everyone should understand. Dreams can be a small glimpse or feel so real that it is unbelievable. The issue people have the most is remembering. They can not remember if they spoke with another individual in actually life or if it was all apart of their dream they had. There is so much confusion that the person is almost embarrassed to ask if the event actually happened. A dream like this is considered one of many lucid dreams. What is a lucid dream, how a person can control it, and compare it to the movie Inception. Dreaming has perceptions, emotions and thoughts experienced during sleep. Some medications enhance how dreams are brought upon, but a rare type of dream to have is lucid dreaming. A lucid dream is any dream during which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. This enables direct control over the content of the dreams. Studies could help unlock some of the inner workings of people's minds and help them to better understand mental health problems. Those who do not dream is abnormal. "Everybody dreams unless there has been significant damage to the brain. Some people are just better at remember their dreams than others." (Riha) During the day at work or home think about something to dream about. Then before going to bed think about that object or person again. Tell your self that you will be alert while dreaming. Sometimes people remember what they dream, and sometime people forget what they dream about. There is a possibility of forgetting the dreams by the time a person gets out of bed. It is thought that everyone dreams between 3 to 6 times per night, and it lasts between 5 to 20 minutes. Adream is something that we experienced during sleep. During sleep, conscious experience is driven by internally generated stimuli that have no apparent behavioral consequences. According to Freud, dreams symbolizes unconscious wishes and that analysis of dream symbols could uncover our hidden desires. There are five phases of sleep in a sleep cycle; phase 1 – light sleep with slow movement of eye which forms 4–5% of total sleep, phase 2 – eye movement stops and brain waves becomes slower which forms 45–55%of total sleep, phase 3 – extremely slow brain waves which comprises 4–6% of total sleep, phase 4 –deep sleep phase with no eye movement or muscle activity which forms 12–15% of total sleep, and phase 5– it is also called REM sleep where breathing becomes more rapid, irregular and shallow, and it forms 20–25% of total sleep time (Nichols, 2017). I went to Texas last month to visit friends and family. My friend and I had a conversation about her friend who got divorced around ten years ago. She was planning to get married to a man who she knew for couple of years. I saw their wedding pictures in a Facebook last week. The only thing I knew was they got married, but I had this dream 3 days ago where the guy was torturing his wife. • 9. A Dream Without My Dream Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain Martin Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the world. Imagine what the world would be like if no one had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn't have any of the great inventions that are present today. There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole of the United States probably wouldn't have been discovered if it wasn't Christopher Columbus' dream to find India, and we'd probably all be running about wearing loin clothes in the dark like shown in the Flintstones! That is, if the human race didn't end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had dreams , and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up at 4 o' clock in the morning staring out my window daydreaming. Although chances are that I'm not really day dreaming if it's 4 in the morning right? Ok, so I guess night dreaming– but you know, without the sleeping. A smile grew across the brown haired boy's face as the thought of his black haired best friend popped into his head. They had known eachother since they were about 3 when Phil's family moved in across the street from Dan's and had been best friends ever since. He had been thinking of him all night. As he did pretty much every second of the day since they were about, oh let's say 10? He hadn't even realised that he had feelings for Phil at that point, but it didn't stop him from always wanting to be with him and gushing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of watching a film, but not that we are in a dream, which is an important difference that can have interesting consequences for answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly, Curry argues that in dreams we have a bi–sociative character, meaning that we have both the sense of being in the dream and being a spectator in it, this is an interesting phenomenon, however, I think that this also exists in "normal" everyday experience in the form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we can have an awareness that we are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams. Looking at the similarities between film and dreams is an interesting avenue to examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence to show that dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it answer the question if a dream is even like a film, all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of a dream as a film, if you imagine a device that can record your dreams and then project it onto a screen and watch the dream on the screen then the dream would act as if it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned above. But, there would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi–sociative character (Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is possible to imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the argument for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. A Dream : Having A Dream Having a dream and living with passion is very important because I believe living without passion is like being dead. Someone like Tony Hawk could agree. Tony Hawk has been a professional skateboarder for over 24 years. However, he did not receive that title overnight; Tony got his first skateboard when he was only 9 years old. Since then, Tony worked extremely hard and put a lot of his focus on skateboarding. He did it because that was his Dream. Tony's Dream was frowned upon by many of his teachers and adults alike. One of his teachers even told him that he "would never make it in the workplace if he didn't follow directions exactly" (Hawk), but he never gave up his Dream. He kept working hard and eventually became a pro at the young age of 15. I want to follow my dreams. I believe everyone should follow their dreams and be happy. I feel that I relate to Ying Ying Yu a lot because when I was young, I told my mom I wanted to become a surgeon. When my mom heard this, she looked so happy. I felt like I was making her proud with my high grades and my slightly above average IQ. For the next 4 years following, I thought that was what I wanted to do with my life. I thought that was what would make me happiest. However recently, I've been thinking about that a lot recently. I would always find myself doubting myself. Do I really want to go through four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school leading to an M.D., and then another three to eight years of surgical ... • 12. My Dreams Of The American Dream The wide field, brimmed primarily with yellow, sprouting, lush, wild flowers and tall green grass, swayed gently in the crisp breeze. Deep within an abundance of towering pine trees, where the bluebirds chirped and the frogs croaked, babbled a crooked creek. The air was filled with the smell of moist bark and sweet blossoms, the sound of bees buzzing, and the feeling of serenity. I had lived in my very own oasis where all of my childhood dreams were born. I dreamed of all my "firsts", my first kiss, my first love, my first high school dance, my first varsity soccer game in the stadium under the lights, my first day as a college student in a foreign city, my first paycheck as an employee, and countless more. My siblings and I staged and acted out various versions of the perfect little family with the house located in the countryside surrounded by the white picket fence to complete the stereotypical American Dream. My imagination was sparked by this magical sanctuary where I led my siblings in the pursuit of our hopes and dreams for a future that now in retrospect seemed untouchable. Where every day brought another game and every hour brought another challenge, I was the queen and I could achieve anything and conquer the world. I was unbeatable, the strongest, the fastest and the bravest. On certain days our old oak tree would transform into a mighty, pirate ship reeking of saltwater and seaweed, sailing the Indian Ocean and I would lead us to find buried treasures fighting ... You most probably have, however, have you ever thought what this concept could actually mean and how it is related to your life? If we simply ask most people about their peculiar understanding of the American Dream, the majority of answers can be easily shortened to a simple one: the American dream is to become successful, to be a master of one's own destiny and to enjoy the freedom in its utmost expression. However, there is no direct or absolutely clear definition of the American dream, as it is viewed by people on the basis of their different worldviews, mental perception, sociological status and time background. Yes, it is definitely heterogeneous as far as different epochs are taken into account. It can hardly be imagined that the American dream cherished, for example, by George Washington, Martin Luther King or by a fictional character Jay Gatsby, were ideologically similar. However, the American dream for anyperson and for any epoch has always been based on the following pillars: freedom, equality, control over one's destiny and an incessant pursuit of one's dream. Concentrating on becoming successful, dreaming to twist one's life from ordinary existence to something truly meaningful and accomplishing one's ultimate dreams are the drives that can lead a person to tremendous achievements. To be honest, we, people who live in America, feel free to act, to defend our own political, cultural, religious, moral views ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Freud And Dreams A dream is an involuntary sequence of images, ideas, stories, emotions, or sensations that occur during certain stages of sleep. Dreams can be pleasant or frightening; vivid or hazy; comprehensible or confusing. The purpose of why humans dream still remains an unsolved mystery within the scientific community. It might seem odd that something seemingly so ordinary and familiar could be such a complex puzzle. In ancient times, people used dreams to diagnose illnesses, predict the future, and receive messages from the gods. Over the years, several scientist have voiced their opinions as to why humans dream; some even believe that dreams serve no purpose at all. Even so, there has not been a single theory that has been accepted as the overall consensus among behavioral scientists. One of the most well known theories as to why humans dream was established by neurologist, Sigmund Freud. He claimed that the purpose of dreaming is wish fulfillment. Freud believed that the unconscious mind protects the conscious mind by censoring the explicit nature of genuine human desires (Montenegro, 314). The unconscious mind then expresses these images through dreams. Freud believed that the manifest content (the actual dream itself) was symbolic and had an underlying latent content (hidden psychological meaning of the dream). ... Because not a single one of the stupid guys in my stupid class had asked me to the dance. Which was totally unfair. Stars were everywhere in the vast welkin (I loved that word), more than I'd ever seen before. Most of the life I could remember had been spent in the city, where the sky was nothing but black on nights. When I'd moved here last winter, the thousands of little lights that appeared every night had enchanted me. They were quite possibly the only good thing about moving to Eastside. Back at home I'd had good friends, things to do, places I could go. Here me and my dad were replacing a loved family that had moved away because their oldest daughter had died here and they couldn't bear the place anymore. So people thought of us as uncaring and rude because we'd replaced them. Because dad had finally gotten together enough money to buy a house in the country. That had been his and mom's dream. • 19. Dreams And Dreams Every single one of us dreams and each one is experienced at a personal level, but interpreting them and figuring what they actually mean is still a mystery to us all. The histories of dreams, dates all the way back to over 5,000 years ago. These were the times where they would still write things down on clay tablets. Even then, we were already interested in what dreams meant. During the Greek and Roman eras, dreams were perceived in a religious sense. If they were good dreams, they would be interpreted as a gift from God, while bad ones were from the demons. (Dream Moods, 2013) As stated by Cope (2015), Egyptians held such a high value on dreams that they had a temple that was devoted to dreaming. There were also dream interpreters that would decipher these dreams. If they had any psychological problems, then they would have the priests interpret them instead. The people that would interpret these dreams were highly respected. Cope also addressed that Ancient Greeks used dreams to predict the future and find solutions to problems. Around the 5th century, the concepts about dreams were starting to evolve. Many different philosophers were making up their own theories. The first philosopher was Heraclitus, and he believed that the dreams were coming from the dreamer's mind entirely. Second, we have Plato saying that it could show a person how to live their life. According to WebMD, while some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning and are nonsensical activities of the sleeping brain, some experts say that dreams exist to help solve problems in our lives, incorporate memories, and process emotions. This can be supported with the expression, "sleep on it". After a good night sleep people tend to wake up with the solution to problems or they tend to feel better about the situation. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams were a window into our subconscious that revealed a person's thoughts, motivations and unconscious desires. In Exploring Psychology, William Domhoff believed that even if dreams were symbolic they could be interpreted any way one wished and that "there is no reason to believe any of Freud's specific claims about dreams and their purposes." • 21. Dreams And Its Effects On Dreams Dream content reflects aspects of waking–life experiences. After memories are made, they are often fragmentally merged with other information to construct larger, holistic dreams. Autobiographical memories are predominantly represented in dreams in comparison to episodic and semantic memories. Among various characteristics from waking–life experiences such as places, people, and events, emotions are highly incorporated into dream content. There is also a decreasing relationship between the cognitive demand of an activity and the frequency in which that activity occurs in dreams. Dreams tend to include material from experiential memories and events from the preceding day as well as experiences from 5–7 days prior. The recurrence of memory content in dreams seems to support the hypothesis that dreaming helps with memory consolidation, or particularly the content which is reflected in dreams. Keywords: dreams, memories, day–residue effect, emotions Introduction Dreaming, although a substantial component of our nighttime lives, remains somewhat of an enigma due to the fact that it occurs while we are unconscious. The inaccessibility of the unconscious mind weakens full analysis and comprehension of dreaming which researchers have been attempting to accomplish. They can be filled with joy, hate, anger or disturbing images, they can be clear and understandable or be very confusing and hazy. Dreams have intrigued many people for quite some time, this alternate reality in which we escape in the unconscious state. Much different than the reality we see from day to day. Have captured interest in many people as to interpret why do we dream? Most people believe that dreams have significance and Meaning behind them. Some are very vivid and powerful that they are just too hard to ignore, so most disregard that they are meaningless. The world of dreams contains intriguing details and unexpected events that spark our attention in the psychology of Dream Interpretation. Some people say they do not dream because they cannot recall the dreams in reality they just are not remembering them. • 23. Dreams And Dreams Are Important Or Meaningless Essay Dreams have been around since the beginning of time. There is often controversy over whether or not dreams are important or meaningless. Although many people believe that dreams are pointless and have no meanings to them, research and experimentation show that there can be many different interpretations of dreams. Dreams are "hallucinations of the sleeping mind" (Loftus & Ketcham). Dreams can be very vivid, loud, and even emotional. This is why it is easy to confuse them with reality. Dreams are kind of like taking all of a person's wishes and emotions and putting them all in a little "shadow world" (Bynum) when they go to sleep at night. "What is common in all these dreams is obvious. They completely satisfy wishes excited during the day which remain unrealized. They are simply and undisguisedly realizations of wishes." (Freud). A person may be experiencing an emotion or wishing for something without even realizing it at all. Dreams can sometimes show a person how they are truly feeling without even their own awareness of these feelings or wishes. A lot of a person's reality and emotions are used in their dreams, however, this is not always the case. Dreams can also be extremely bizarre, confusing, and even repetitive. This is where the interpretation of dreams comes into action. Many people find it hard to believe that when they have a dream over and over again that it does not mean anything. These types of dreams are called recurring dreams. Recurring dreams happen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Dream In The American Dream The American Dream, has stereotypically branded a permanent mental image of a successful and stunning married couple standing in front of their perfect white picket fence, 1.5 children, and in the back ground is their classic, cookie–cutter, utopian house. However, this idea has wrongly become the standard model to living a successful life. This "American Dream' now excludes a large, diverse group of people; the poor and the immigrants who have given everything to migrate and relocate only to have their dreams become farther away from reality. This harsh, and rather unrealistic, utopian mental picture does not accurately show the dreams of all people, and is only merely a dream society has portrayed. Millennials especially, have taken note and are reacting with very different mindsets than the generations that have come before them. The millennials desire more and are attempting to make a change. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to understand. Dreams have strange concepts that some people do not fully comprehend, especially ones that seem out of range. However, fantasy is an essential component in surviving. Dreams and goals differ, yet are constantly mixed up, confused and misused. Stages 3 and 4 are referred to as deep sleep or delta sleep, and it is very difficult to wake someone from them. In deep sleep, there is no eye movement or muscle activity. This is when some children experience bedwetting, sleepwalking or night terrors. Usually, REM sleep occurs 70–90 minutes after someone has fall asleep. Dreams And Dreams : Dreams Avery Alexander English III Mr. Tarr 26 April 2015 Dreams Throughout our dreaming experience, we feel different sensations, emotions, and thoughts interpreted through images in a person's mind. During our unconscious process, the meanings of our inner thoughts are experienced through dreams. Some psychologists believe dreams are connected to our real emotions and others may see dreams as a specific meaning related to one's life (Young). Dreams can put us in touch with our real motives in life due to the connection they have to reality, but other opinions are believed to be that dreams are simply processing memories letting go of emotional thoughts throughout your day (Hamilton–Parker). For hundreds of years, people have been questioning why they are dreaming what they are. Dreams incorporate deeper meanings and past experiences to express the information in the form of visual images. Through the process of dreaming and imagining, we as humans have the ability to experience the world and use our mind to explore our imagination (Berman). Dreaming is a way to stabilize our thought process and cleanse the mind. We discover that every aspect in a dream is manifesting itself in some way in our everyday lives (Springett). When lucidity occurs, the dreamer "wakes up" inside the dream during fixed states of cognizance. Dreams are caused by things "...our mind knows, however which we cannot handle, is disturbing or something that we keep reiterating to ourselves" (Ganguly). This is why distinguishing significant dream symbols from ambient symbols is important for attempting this state. Many people propose dream interpretation to help better understand the conscious state, but some are said to lucid dream to not only control the dream, but to elate themselves while asleep. When experts are asked why people dream, the answers prove indecisive. Some claims have been that dreams are caused by hidden desires, impressions, or how things are perceived; but, of course the imagination and the hidden ways of the brain interact with these druthers. We must sleep to recharge our minds and bodies. When you don't get enough sleep you may feel a little "out of it" the next day. When you do not get your beauty rest for a long period of time, you could actually develop mental disorders. Sleeping is clearly important, but just like sleeping dreaming is also very important to us. It is safe to say that most of the time you may not remember dreams, but that doesn't mean you did not have them. Research on sleep and dreams show that adults typically dream every 90 minutes or so. That means that you may have about 4–6 dreams when you get an 8 hr sleep. Just as we need sleep to function, we also need to dream. In a study where lab subjects were allowed to sleep and not dream, these people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research shows that when we sleep the mind is re–awakened. There is a difference between the awake mind and the sleeping one. Only some areas of our mind are awakened and are involved in dreaming. Scientists also have learned now that dreaming primarily occurs in the limbic region of the brain which is the area that deals with our emotions. Thus, we seem to be able to account for the highly emotional nature of dreams. Our most vivid dreams happen during a phase of sleep called REM which stands for Rapid Eye Movement. People who get woken up during the REM phase usually cannot remember their dreams, where people who wake up during the NREM phase (Non–Rapid–Eye–Movement) can remember their dreams a little better by about 15%. The types of dreams people report during the REM phase also seem to be bizarre and the kind where one knows s/he is dreaming. Now that you are aware of the important of dreaming and sleeping, ensure that you get enough of both each and every night. Change your mind to accomplish your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dreams : A Personal Essay On Dreams And Dreams Dreams. What are dreams? Dreams are good. Right? Dreams are our goals. Dreams are good. All the people who say that forgot to mention that nightmares too. They forgot to tell us that the ghost that haunt our past and all our fears can come to life if we try hard enough. And our darkest fears are real in this world or another. Smoke and wind. My nose and eyes burns from the all the smoke from the room swirling around me. My first instinct is to run. As I turn around columns of flames encircle me. Then I see a girls on the other side of the flames. I see a beautiful girl with hair as red as fire and eyes as blue as the sea. Her voice dripping like honey as she spoke everything around me faded. "You will go to the land of the forgotten. You will find you desire most. The fate of the word is in your hands as it was in your father's. You will face many temptations in your journey, remember what is important. Remember your story and where you came from. I woke up drenched in my own sweat as i heard my mom call for me to wake up. I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment in a bad part of town with my mom and little brother. My mom says I look like dad when he was my age. He died when I was 4 years old. My brother is 4 years younger than me. "Jackson! Wake up now!" My Mom yells from the other side of my door. • 37. Dreams : The Awareness Of Dreams Dreams are stories our mind creates while we are asleep. Dreams can be witty, cheerful, passionate, disturbing, horrific, and downright confusing. All my life I have always wondered what goes on in our brains when we dream. I also have wondered why our brains create dreams. Are dreams something the brain creates to make sense of what it views so it organizes images into coherent stories. Dream content also varies depending on life experience. A child will dream of candy and toys but an adult will dream of love and their future. Dreams are just random stories you get every now and then, does the brain make dreams to explain why traumatic experiences occur because our dreams are stories of what you fear in life, are dreams warnings of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tracing dreams back to the beginning of time people have always tried to interpret dreams and understand their meaning. Scientist today discover more and more about dreams and why we have them, someday we will understand why we have them. A dream Is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations that occur in a person's mind during sleep. The scientific study of dreams is called Oneirology. Dreams can be caused by many things but what scientist today believe, is that dreams occur due to chemicals being released in the body while you're sleeping. When you fall asleep the neurotransmitter in your brain releases gamma–aminobutyric acid. Gamma–aminobutyric acid is released to dampen nerve activity in the brain which leads to the feeling of calm and relaxation. Gamma–aminobutyric acid is also prescribed to people who suffer from ADHD. Another chemical that is released in your body's melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone made by your body's pineal gland. The pineal gland is located in the middle of the brain. This chemical stays in the body for around 12 hours or all through the night. Melatonin increases the number of dreams a person remembers by prolonging the amount of time spent in REM sleep. This chemical also increases the chances of a person experiencing a lucid dream. A lucid dream is being more self–aware in a dream and being able to control that dream. The last chemical that is released in the body is oxytocin. Oxytocin is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Dreams And Sigmund Freud's Theory Of Dreams There are many theories about why we dream, some say dreams have no meaning or purpose, others say dreams are required for emotional, physical and mental health. According to the activation– synthesis model of dreaming theory circuits in the brain become activated during the REM cycle, which causes areas in the limbic system involved in memories, emotions and sensations become activated (verywell.com/why–do–we–dream –top–dream–theories–2795931). Sigmund Freud's theory on dreams suggested that dreams represented unconscious desires, thoughts and motivations (verywell.com/Freudian–theory–2795845). Though these thoughts are not consciously expressed, Freud suggested they make their way into awareness via dreams. Some people have dreams that are so normal that the dreamers feel as if they're awake and conscious, this is known as lucid dreams. Sometimes dreams are so real it's hard to determine between the dream and reality. Keywords: (dreaming, lucid dreams, Freud theory, REM sleep) Dreams Dreams are primarily stories and images our mind build while we are asleep. Dreams can make you feel happy, sad or scared. He believed by examining dreams he can understand how the unconscious mind works and what it is trying to hide from conscious awareness. Freud broke down dreams into two different types, the manifest content of the dream and the latent content. The manifest content of the dream contains all the images, events, and thoughts contained in the dream, this is fundamentally what the dreamer remembers upon waking. The latent content is all the hidden and symbolic meanings within the dream. Freud believed that dreams were essentially a form of wish fulfillment, by taking those unconscious thoughts and desires and making them into less unacceptable behavior in society ... • 39. The Dream Of A Dream Story At the age of six, Bret Dunlap was predicted to never walk or talk again after suffering from major head trauma in a car accident. He slowly recovered with the help of his family members and a previously undiscovered hobby. Bret was influenced by his brother to start running, which ended up changing his life in ways he would never have imagined. Within this essay, Friedman describes Bret's journey of navigating the difficulties of life after his accident. The dream that can be analyzed in this essay is the idea of being useful in life and towards society; Friedman describes Bret's process in achieving this dream through the inclusion of characters' thoughts and actions. This narrative technique reveals the idea that dreams are not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bret's dream is initialized with the help of his mother; she plays a central role in shaping Bret's attitude on life after his accident. She is constantly described as a hard woman, and she knew in order for her son to survive, he would have to be hardened as well. After the accident, "she might have softened, might have let you [Bret] slide when things were toughest...but she didn't" (Friedman 335). She forced him to become independent through simple tasks such as not allowing him to have a wheelchair and making him button his own shirt. Bret's dream of being useful coincides with his mother's hopes for him, which is explained in Friedman's description of her: "Your mother is a hard woman who has no time for religion but who is sure we should all seek God, to try to understand what our gift is, to be useful" (Friedman 350). The narrator includes the mother's thoughts and actions because they play an important role in deciphering whether Bret's dream is shared. Because their two goals are so similar, we are lead to question whether the dream story in this essay is relevant to only one person. Perhaps his desire to find a place in society was his mother's dream all along, and he simply adopted the idea as his own. His mother's dream for him to live independently was born from the damage left by his accident. This destruction inflicted upon Bret shaped not only his own life desires but also his mother's wishes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Dreams Of Dreams By Carl Jung Every night people lay their heads down to rest in hopes of having a good night's sleep and as you sleep during the night, dreams occur. Some remember more than others. However, a dream is always present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity of dream interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there which drove psychologists to go out and study them. (The Dream Experience Chapter 1) Dreams are a very complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from dream simply being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund Freud's who believed that there is a deeper meaning behind dreams that is driven by sexual aggression. Carl Jung's theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general, believed dreams had a different meaning from what the dream actually shows. Several theories and several explanations for dream causes great disagreement between scientists and psychologists. (You are What you Dream) Throughout time, however, other theories of dreaming have come about after Freud's. Freud's theory is, to this say, questioned, by psychologists around the world. Is Freud's theory still hold up in the 21st century? Freud's theory of dreams which is extremely abstract when it relates to other theories such as Carl Jung's and Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. Freud's theory for the most part was used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Holding On To The Dream : Holding On To The Dream Holding on to the Dream I chose this poem because people need dreams because without dreams then humans lose the point of living. Dreams could be anything from living a holy life to be an example to others or the dream could be just making it through college. Since people without a dream are do not know what the point of living is then people need to have a goal and need to hold on to it. This poem helps the reader see that every needs a dream. Langston Hughes, the author of the "Dream Deferred," had a difficult childhood because of family issues they had. His parents divorced when he was born; his father move to Mexico, Langston and his mom had to move in this Langston's grandma (The Life and Work of Langston Hughes). Growing up with only one parent is very hard and makes for several changes. One of those challenges was having hope for the future because the times were not favorable to black. This poem is important because it reminds us to hold onto our dreams in turn helps us have hope for the future. Many people have lost hope because they let go of their dreams. This makes for a generation that is depressed because they have no hope that life will get better. Langston did the contrary of this generation; when he had no hope nor dream he made a dream. He made something that was worth living for. In "Dream Deferred" it very helps one to see that dream are very important because without a dream then it can become difficult to see what the point of living life. Langston ...
