Evaluation
For my musicvideofinal edit,mychosensongwas byan artist calledBakermatandtheirfamous
songOne day. Bakermat’ssongfeaturedlyricsfromMartinLutherKing’sfamousspeech,whichwas
remixedwithjazzandhouse music. The songisaboutbringingpeople togetherof all ages,genders
and ethnicitygroups. The songwasa fairlyhardgenre to filmfootage forasit fell underthe deep
house andjazz genre.WhenresearchingIfoundthatthisgenre stereotypicallyfeaturedupbeatand
happyscenesusuallyof the protagonistdancing.
The narrative of mymusicvideoisabouttwo girlswhoare bestfriendsandhave dreamswhenthey
grow up.The footage showsthat eventhoughtheyhave dreamswhentheyare oldertheyare not
reallyfocusingonthatrightnow butare justhavingfunand enjoyingbeingyoungandbeingbest
friends.Ithinkthe songgoeswiththisfootage because some areas of the songare fastpaced,
however, the lyricswithhelpfromthe footage tell the viewer astory.
Whenlookingbackat my musicvideoIcan evidentlyseethe cameratechniquesIhave usedand
featuredinmyfinal edit,suchas;variousmidshots,close ups,longshots,Etc. I chose these typesof
camera techniquesbecause theyare commonlyusedandIthinkworkverywell inmymusicvideo.
Whenworkingwiththisgenre itwasverydifficulttofilmscenestomatchthe musichowever,we
decidedonfastpaste scenesasour chosensongfeatureda fasttempo.
However,anotherqualityIlikedaboutmyfootage wasthe contrastof coloursthat wasfeatured.I
feltthatthe moodof the songwasupbeatand happytherefore,wantedtoshow the same thingin
the footage andfeltthat the contrast of colours didthisveryeffectively. Although,Ididn’thave to
editthe contrast as itwas naturallyfilmed.Ialsofeel, notonlydoesthe contrasthelpwiththe mood
of the song, but alsotellsyouvisually whothe cameraisfocusingonand whothe protagonistsare.
2. Throughoutmymusicvideo,Idecidednottoadd any transitionsthataffectedthe waythateach
piece of footage changedtothe next.I decidednottouse any effectstodothisbecause Ifeltthat it
wouldhave changedthe moodof my songand wouldn’thave made it very effective. Also,Ithink
withoutthese transitionsitchangessmoothlyto the nextscene withoutoverdoingit butmakingthe
footage lookmore natural andlessedited.AnotherthingIdecidednottochange wasthe orderI
originally putmy footage informydraft musicvideo, asI reallylikedthe placementasI feltittolda
storyabout the two protagonists.
Although,tomake mymusicvideoeffective Idecidedtotryand use effectsthatI thoughtwould
interpretthe meaningandthe moodof the song.Therefore,Ichose to use the mirroreffectwhichI
decidedtoonlyuse on3 piecesof footage. Idecidedtouse this effectasI feltitwentreallywell
withthe genre of the song and gave ita reallyupbeatfeeltoit.AnotherreasonIchose thiseffect
was because itevidentlyshownwhothe camerawasfocusingonand whatthe protagonistsare
doingthroughoutthe scenes.
AnothereffectIdecidedtouse throughoutmymusicvideowasthe slow motioneffect,onmultiple
slidesIsetthe slowmotion to50%. I didthisso itwentat the same paste as the musicand didn’t
influencethe mood inanywayandalsothishelpedyou evidentlysee whatthe twoprotagonists
were doingineachscene.Where the jazzmusicwas beingplayedIactivatedthe slow motioneffect,
so like otherstereotypical musicvideos,the twoprotagonistsare portrayedasdancingtothe music.
Otherstrong points,Ibelieve wasthe use of zoomshotsand panshots I includedthroughoutthe
musicvideo.A lotwas featuredduringthe musicvideoandIthinka good use wasusedas it made it
veryeffective.Ibelievethese usesmade the musicvideoveryeffectivebecauseyousee alotof
movementratherthanjustbeingstoodinone place yougot to see a lotof the location,whichis
invitingthe viewerin.
On the otherhand,a weaknessIfeel thatcouldbe improvedwouldtobe toinclude afew more
effectsasI feel thatmymusicvideoistoosimple eventhoughitgivesoff the messagethatIwant it
too; whichisbringingpeopletogetherandtofocus andnow insteadof worryingaboutthe future.
An improvementthatIwouldhave likedtomake wouldhave been toincludethe rewindeffectasI

videolooklesssimple however,Idecidednottoinclude thiseffectasIfeltitwouldn’thave gone
withthe genre of musictherefore,notmaintainingaupbeatandhappymoodfrom the song.
Overall,Iam happywithmyfinal musicvideoasI feel eventhoughitdoesn’tinclude alotof effectsI
still feel asIf itisa strongpiece of workbecause itgivesoff the moodand storythat I want itto,
howeverIdofeel some improvementscanbe made but don’tfeel theyhave tobe made.
