The Themes Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh is an old epic poem from Mesopotamia going back to approximately 2000
BCE. It is accepted to be one of the most punctual works of literature in human history. Researchers
trust that its roots were in antiquated Sumerian poems that were later gathered into an Akkadian epic
in the eighteenth or seventeenth century BCE. Hormuzd Rassam, an Assyrian paleologist, first found
the clay tablets that record the epic in 1853, in modern–day Iraq. They were first deciphered by
George Smith, a British Assyriologist, and were first distributed in the mid 1870s. In this essay I will
critically analyzed the themes, imagery and symbolism which has been used in Epic of Gilgamesh.

Enkidu journeys from the wild to Uruk and Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu journey to the Cedar
Forest. Enkidu journeys to the black market. Gilgamesh journeys to and afterward through the twin–
peaked mountain Mashu (p–27). He journeys to Urshanabi to discover Utnapishtim, at that point
traversed the sea and through the sea of death, just to come back to Uruk. Gilgamesh's many
journeys mirror his internal journey to wind up plainly a selfless and committed ruler (p–47, 57).
Baptism symbolism shows up all through Gilgamesh, flagging a ceaseless recharging and
resurrection of the characters. Enkidu washes and blesses himself after he tastes cooked nourishment
and brew at the shepherd camp. Ninsun washes herself before she collectives with Shamash.
Gilgamesh washes himself after his arrival from the Cedar Forest. Gilgamesh and Enkidu wash
themselves in the Euphrates after they stifle the Bull of Heaven. Gilgamesh experiences an invert
baptism after Enkidu's death, when he wears skins and gives his hair a chance to develop. Siduri
urges Gilgamesh to wash himself, yet he cannot. Utnapishtim arranges his boatman to baptize
Gilgamesh before they journey home. Gilgamesh is in a pool of pure water when the snake steals the
enchantment plant. Despite the fact that Gilgamesh laments losing the plant, the baptism symbolism
recommends he needn't bother with it any longer. He has at long last grappled with his morality and

Oral History Annotations
Lyrics Annotations Oral history happens within communities, and it gives people opportunities. To
learn about human interaction, develop a language and taking action.
Oral history can often give you a better idea about culture and people because there is less open to
interpretation than a written document. Language is one of the biggest parts of human language and
our language and communication skills would be much less advanced without our oral histories.

The Myth Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians since the time of its revelation in the mid–
nineteenth century in the remains of the considerable library at Nineveh, with its record of an all
inclusive surge with critical parallels to the Flood of Noah 's day. Whatever remains of the Epic,
which goes back to conceivably third thousand years B.C., contains little of worth for Christians,
since it concerns run of the mill polytheistic myths connected with the agnostic people groups of the
time. Be that as it may, a few Christians have considered the thoughts of creation and existence in
the wake of death introduced in the Epic. Indeed, even common researchers have perceived the
parallels between the Babylonian, Phoenician, and Hebrew ... Show more content on

In todays society, there are many religions that are carried out worldly, and live by different
teachings that may differ from others. So to some, what may be considered religious may not be
religious to those apart of that particular religion. But, indefinitely this does no concur that the Epic
of Gilgamesh is not a religious text due to the contrary of popular belief. One may be of Catholic
belief, and another may be of a: Anglican, Baptist, Pentecostal, Muslim or Hindu religious
backgrounds, just to name a few, but don't all share similar views on particular matters. This does
not suggest that they aren't all religious in anyway but, this goes to show the diversification of
religion.
According to (religioustolerance.org) religion is defined as "a particular arrangement of conviction
about god, regularly including customs, a code of morals, a theory of life, and a perspective." A
perspective is an arrangement of essential, foundational convictions concerning divinity, mankind
and whatever remains of the universe. Thus we would consider Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Native
American Spirituality, and Neopaganism to be religions. We likewise incorporate Agnosticism,
Atheism, Humanism, Ethical Culture and so forth as religions, since they additionally contain a
"conviction about god" – their conviction is that they don 't know whether a god exists, or they have
no learning of God, or they truly trust that God does not exist". There are many

Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and the...
Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah's Ark Many cultures have stories of a great
flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah's Ark. The next most notable is the Sumerian
story of Ut–Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian depiction of the
flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is disturbing his sleep.
Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of Gilgamesh has
broadly the same structure and plot as Noah's Ark, suggesting the possibility that the Biblical
account has drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction. University
professor Alexander Heidel concludes that these accounts are undeniably ... Show more content on

on all sides. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in
length, 75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer Chuck
Missler maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the two
measurements. Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the Biblical ark is
amazingly similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences between the stories
include only minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals onboard, but Ut–Napishtim
invited additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen. Noah's ark landed on Mt.
Ararat, but Ut–Napishtim's ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a few 100 miles away. In the
Babylonian account, the water came only in the form of rain; however in the Biblical account water
came from beneath the earth in addition to rain. Noah released a raven once and a dove twice, but
Ut–Napishtim released three different birds; a dove, a swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps
the differences were intentional in order to make the two stories more unique in their own way.
Perhaps the differences are simply two different people's renditioning of the same story. However,
despite the minor differences there are many similarities between the two stories. Indeed the
similarities have led some to speculate that these ancient flood stories were

Epic poems have been written or handed down orally for thousands of years through both
storytellers and written records. Most of the stories from the time of Gilgamesh, 2700 to 600 B.C,
were in the form of epic poetry. There are certain specifications in order for something to be
considered an epic poem. In all epic poems the plot centers on a hero of unbelievable prominence,
involves superhuman strength and bravery, a vast setting, supernatural or otherworldly forces, and
an omniscient poet.
The Epic of Gilgamesh obviously centers on the character Gilgamesh. The fact that Gilgamesh is
two–thirds God and only one–third man, he views himself as superior to those around him.
Gilgamesh appears to be very impressive because of his great size and stately presence (Tablet I:
30–38). The main character Gilgamesh emerges more divine than human (Tablet I: 50) and
possesses the highest degree of strength (Tablet 1:36).
Because of this supernatural divinity that Gilgamesh obtains, he becomes very self–confidant. He is
often viewed as arrogant, "arrogance has no bounds by day or night" which causes some people to
dislike him. Because of that, Gilgamesh has a hard time finding a peer, someone who can challenge

Similarities Between Gulf And The Gilgamesh Flood
The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians as far back as its revelation in the mid–
nineteenth century in the vestiges of the library at Nineveh, with its record of a general flood with
critical parallels to the flood in the Book of Genesis. There have been various flood stories
distinguished from antiquated sources scattered around the world. The stories that were found on
cuneiform tablets, which involve a portion of the most punctual surviving written work, and have
clear similitudes. The cuneiform style of writing was developed by the Sumerians and carried on by
the Akkadians. The Epic of Gilgamesh was contained on twelve extensive tablets, and since the first
discovery, it has been found on others and additionally having been converted into other early
languages. There are numerous similarities between the Gilgamesh flood account and the scriptural
flood account starting above all with God picking an honest man to assemble an ark as a result of a
looming incredible flood. In the two records, tests from all types of creatures were to be on the ark,
and birds were utilized after the downpours to decide whether flood waters had died down anyplace
to uncover dry land. There are different similitudes between the Gilgamesh flood account and the
scriptural flood account. The similarities between the flood account in both Genesis and Gilgamesh
continued with its location. Since these societies existed in Mesopotamia, it isn't out of the norm for

Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The poem The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered to be the first documented work of literature, which
originated in Uruk, a city–state located along the channel of the Euphrates River in Sumer. The
Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia to devise a system of written language, which
consisted of wedge shaped characters that were inscribed in clay tablets. This system of writing is
known as cuneiform, and it was used to record The Epic of Gilgamesh. Throughout this epic poem,
Gilgamesh, the king and ruler of Uruk, encounters a number of religious figures that sheds light
upon the history and culture of the Mesopotamians. It is apparent from the start of the poem, that the
people of Uruk centered their entire lifestyle around the many deities of the polytheistic Sumerian
religion. Gilgamesh himself was the son of the goddess Ninsun and king Lugulbanda, and was
considered to be one–third human, and two–thirds god. Gilgamesh also encounters Utnapanishtim,
who was gifted with immortality from the gods after serving as a heroic savior during a great flood,
in which the biblical story of Noah's Ark alludes to. Furthermore, The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of
the most significant literary works in history; it has influenced and shaped the course of western
literature, in molding the first archetypes of an epic hero, and in its use of literary devices.
Generally, people who are schooled in the United States are first introduced to the concept of an epic
hero, and the use of

Gilgamesh As An Epic Hero
Gilgamesh is one of literatures first heroes, and there is evidence to suggest that he was a real
historical figure who lived between 2500 and 2700 BC. Gilgamesh is credited with building an
immense wall around the city of Uruk, and gradually over the centuries, a 3,000–line epic poem was
written around 1200 B.C. As the king of Uruk, Gilgamesh is two–thirds god and one–third man,
exceedingly strong, and a tyrant towards his people. Gilgamesh uses forced labor to accomplish the
building projects of his kingdom. As a result, his people pray to the gods for relief from Gilgamesh's
harshness. The gods provide Gilgamesh with a Wildman named Enkidu; matched in strength, they
become best friends. Together they have many adventures. One venture

On Monday, we tested our car with 50g weights, but it was not energy efficient as the energy score
decreased because I put the weights in front of the car, which made the car go slower. I solved this
issue by putting the weights in the back of the car like where the motor is. Then, I tested our car with
100g weights on the track, and the energy score increased. As a group, we decided to add more
weights because as I put more weights on the car, the energy score increased.

The second problem I faced this week was; when I put 150g weights in the back of the car, the car
only went halfway down the track and then it completely stopped. I found out; it stopped because
the weights were blocking the wheels. I solved this issue by adjusting the weights (like I put the
weights in the back of the car so that the car can pick up the speed quickly).
After solving these issues, the car never stopped again, and I realised that the car went the fastest
when the weights were put in the back of the car. The car went the slowest with the weights put in
front of the car and the car never stopped again. That is how we solved our issue.

Accuracy in Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible Essay
There is much debate over the historical accuracy of the Hebrew Bible and The Epic of Gilgamesh.
Some claim that to understand a work of literature requires extensive knowledge of the background
of this work. The contrary position is that a work of literature can be interpreted solely on it's
content. The meaning of the term classical literature is that it can be applied during any period of
time, it is eternal. Yet the conditions surrounding the author might still be of interest to the reader,
and of importance to the work. As with many cases, the truth is somewhere in between the two
extremes. Both sides have valid arguments about the importance of historicity.
To say that historicity is of the utmost importance may seem extreme. ... Show more content on

As a real person, the fact that He lived and dies for their sins takes on a great significance. Many
devote their lives to serving others the way Jesus did in the New Testament. In this case, it is easy to
see how it would be greatly important that Jesus be an accurate historical figure. As a fictional
character, His life and death have meaning within the story, but would not be likely to inspire the
great actions that people take trying to follow His example. This is only one extreme instance in
which the historical accuracy of a work would have great importance. The stories of many human
beings, including those in Gilgamesh and The Bible may inspire people to have similar courage.
Even if these characters are mortal human beings, that human beings could act out of such courage
and love may give readers faith that they too may be able to be as courageous.
Depending on the reader, the historical accuracy may seem of no importance at all. If a work of
literature is good enough, one gets quite involved in the story line, and the characters become real.
Regardless of the time or place, one's involvement in the work may supersede all history
surrounding it.
The question of the importance of historicity aside, there can be little harm done in pondering the
accuracy of a work. The Hebrew Bible and the Epic of Gilgamesh have come under close scrutiny

Claymation And Characters In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh is thought to be one of the oldest works of literature known to man. The epic
gives readers a unique glimpse into the earliest of civilizations, warranting it to be taught in
classrooms all over the world. So over time, it has been translated into many different languages and
mediums to cater to different classes or platforms. For example, students at Chartwell Elementary
School put their own twist on the Epic of Gilgamesh, claymation style.
Claymation or clay animation is a form of stop motion animation. The creator makes all the scenes,
characters and props out of clay. The filmmaker records numerous shots of the clay objects in

For example, they do include a meeting of Gilgamesh and Enkidu, but there is no mention of a
wedding. They also changed why Enkidu must stop Gilgamesh from going to the wedding, instead,
Enkidu merely intervened because the populace is displeased with their leader. It is understandable
that they wouldn't be able to include every single scene in their twelve–minute YouTube video
because making a clay stop motion film is extremely tedious. It typically takes 12 shots to make one
second of footage. Their teacher also probably glossed over some graphic scenes that might have
been too much for these elementary students. For example, Enkidu and Shamhat simply fell in love
under a palm tree in the claymation, instead of an intense love making session that lasts for several
days. It is still fair to say that although some scenes weren't included the full plot is understood.
The childlike interpretation of Gilgamesh is evident in the making of this film. Certain immature
aspects of the video take away from the grand style of an epic. The strength and heroism that
encompass the character Gilgamesh are lost in the creation of his character. The awesome fight
scenes and grand expeditions that one reads about in the anthology are at best wimpy in the

Theme Of Paganism In Beowulf
The longest epic poem ever written in the genre of Old English is "Beowulf", it has been composed
in the native language as spoken during the Anglo–Saxon reign in England, preceding the Norman
Conquest. Beowulf is regarded as a classic tale which relates the defeat of evil and triumph of good.
The poem is divided into three acts.
Christian and Pagan Influences in Beowulf: The Pagan deities, rituals as well as pagan ideas
influenced Beowulf, when it was being created, though the passing down of the epic narrative in
verbal form, the Christianity age would provide a residual effect to the story. The ideas mixed is not

The poem consists of enough glimpses of the occasions of feasting, gift–giving, and knot that ties
the Lord with the thanes in one mutual bondage. He even speaks of the hero vaunting before setting
out for the battlefield, and the scop singing praises of the past great victories which were the
commonality in the pagan Germanic society. Moreover, Beowulf reacts to the Hrothgar's grief when
his most beloved follower Aeschere dies, which provokes Beowulf to adhere to traditional to avenge
the death, is a perfect distinctive exposure to the pagan temper. Grendel's mother also lets out the
same cry, taking an oath to revenge the death of her Grendel's death is also another kind of wild
justice. The fierce combating scenes are all heathens, a trait of Paganism. The poetry seems a
thorough non–Christian composition composed in the pre–Christian time. For other subsequent
Anglo–Saxon heroic poetry, Beowulf is an outstanding fountain–head inspiration, including The
Battle of Maldon. Nevertheless, Beowulf rather strangely bears many religious and Christian traits.
The Teutonic culture had individual religious practices and ideals in the society. It is also an
authentic record that has recorded the Teutonic social life with the descriptions of the Teutonic
ceremonies and customs. Such customs and ceremonies are connected with the heathen practices
and rites. The hero Beowulf, in the end, receives a burial according to the heathenic culture, his

The Battle Of The Crusades In 'The Song Of Roland'
In the epic poem, "The Song of Roland" the tale depicts the Battle at Rencevaux in which the
protagonist is betrayed and serves as a martyr to justify the Crusades. The Crusades were a medieval
military expedition by the Roman Catholics to purge the Muslims from the Holy Land. With this
definition of the Crusades, one can conclude that the "Song of Roland" should not be considered
apart of the Crusades as the poem's context is historically inaccurate, written long after the events,
and lacks a credible source. Instead, this depiction should just be considered as a folk tale that was
used to drive the crusaders to keep fighting. The story of heroism in this poem was no doubt a
motivational tool that inspired soldiers to persevere and uproot the Muslims from the Holy Land.
The "Song of Roland" dates back to early 12th century, in the midst of the Crusades. The original
battle was called the Battle of Roncevaux Pass which took place in 778 AD, long before the epic
poem dates back to. For one to even consider this poem as the first battle of the Crusades the poem
would have be written relatively soon after the battle. Some scholars speculate that the poem was
written around the time that the battle took place but there is no evidence to support their theory as
the only written copies date back between 1129 and 1165 AD. These dates place the written poem in
the middle of the Crusades. Furthermore, this strengthens the idea that the poem is not a accurate
description of what actually happened on that day. Instead, this epic poem was written for another

this Holy War. With the date of the "Song of Roland" being nearly four hundred years after the
actual battle one could see the potential problems with the details of the story. Having no previous
records, experts aren't sure whether the epic poem was changed on purpose, or if parts of it were
forgotten. Although the tale conveys a sense of heroism and pride, it there are many details that are
historically inaccurate. For example, in the "Song of Roland", the author describes the opposing
forces as "Saracens". This term Saracen is used by many authors at the time

Epic Electronic Medical Record Essay
two years ago the hospital implemented EPIC Electronic Medical Records (ERM) system to move
from paper charts to the computer in all its clinical and surgical operations. Epic is used by major
health systems around the United States. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as part of the University of
Miami Health Systems lunched UChart, a version of the Epic EMR to fully integrate a vast set of
patient care applications, including: scheduling, registration, billing operations; clinical, lab, and
operating room systems for doctors and ancillaries staff. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of the
implementation was training the faculty and staff members on the appropriate use of Epic/UChart
system. UChart training for Bascom Palmer was customized ... Show more content on

Thus, a lot them had to use personal time to familiarize themselves with the system in order to
performed their duties.
Another major challenge was the clinic's patient volume. Since typing patient information into the
new UChart medical record takes time, it was recommended that doctors reduce their patient
appointments by 50% in the first two weeks of implementation; 30–40% in June; and 25% during
the first two weeks in July, going back to full capacity by mid–July. All doctors had the opportunity
to review and approve their modified schedules.
The ultimate goal for UChart is to improve the care and service we offer to our patients, and after
the UChart ERM system went live on May 12, 2014, the hospital was able to achieve its goal.
During the past two years, the hospital has been able to assess and track the success of the transition
to ERM based on constant monitors of different metrics such as: quality of care, patient satisfaction,
doctor's satisfactions, billing and insurance efficiency, reduction of heath care costs, staff
productivity, and revenue

Gilgamesh Analysis
Gilgamesh One of the earliest surviving works of literature is The Epic of Gilgamesh. It is a source
into understanding the Sumerians and what they believe. The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an
ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this
poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a
self–consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is
Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and
is one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which
allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh's power started to irritate the people
and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created
Enkidu, Gilgamesh's frenemy turned loyal companion. Before Enkidu became Gilgamesh's friend
and loyal companion, he was one with the wild. Instead of being part human, part god, Enkidu was
1/3rd human and 2/3rds beast. He lived in the forest with animals only eating grass and drinking out
of water holes. He was unaware of the civilized life outside of the forest. He did not understand the
ways of civilized life. Instead he was used to his primitive ways, he did not know what losses he
was facing verses what he was going to gain. After the temple prostitute, he developed a need for

Motivations In Beowulf
Epic Motivations vs. Epic Hero
(Analysis of Beowulf's Motivations)
Motivation has a funny way of pushing people beyond their limits, allowing them to succeed even
more than they previously thought possible. Everyone's motivations are different; some people are
motivated by other individuals while others are motivated by goals. A common appearance of
motivations is seen in the epic poem Beowulf as well. This ancient epic piece of history was
originally told orally for numerous years, captivating audiences long ago as it still does today. This
poem gave light to the Anglo–Saxon way of life and code, as there is little record of the people
living during that era. There is no one specific author or date tagged onto the poem, but has been

Throughout this story glory and duty can be seen going hand in hand. One has a sense of duty to
protect and fight and conquer with this end knowledge that glory will reign down upon the dutiful.
There is glory in the fight, but not without the knowledge that there comes a duty to protect those in
need of it, and that's who he is is fighting for. The quote from Beowulf, "When he heard the tale of
Hrothgar's distress, he set sail for Denmark to rid the land of its fear," tells of Beowulf going to help
the Danes. This shows that he is not only going to leave his country to help another but it also sets
up the duty aspect of the story. He feels it is his duty, his obligation to help these people and to rid
them of demons prosecuting them. A duty really is just a royal or theistic obligation in this case.
Since he has the ability to fight, well then by jove he is going to fight and he will either die with
honor or return with glory. The entire Anglo–Saxon culture was built around that. There wasn't a
weak hero, there were only powerful men who set an example for others to follow. Duty is
something that for Beowulf he accepted with the knowledge that glory would by in store upon the
fulfilment of the task. This is one the key motivations for Beowulf; the idea that one has a duty but
with duty comes great

Flood Myth in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Biblical...
The Flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Flood of Genesis
The Biblical book, Genesis, of the Old Testament contains an account of an historic Flood which has
never been equaled in intensity. Tablet 11of the Sumero–Babylonian version of the epic of
Gilgamesh also records a Flood quite expansive and quite devastating. Are they a record of the same
event?
E.A. Budge states in Babylonian Story of the Deluge and the Epic of Gilgamesh that the narration of
the Flood in Sumero–Babylonian records may simply be related to a local flood instead of a
worldwide Flood such as the Bible narrates:
It is not too much to assume that the original event commemorated in the Legend of the Deluge was
a serious and prolonged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Berossus, the deluge hero was the tenth Prediluvian king in Babylonia. Also in the
Sumerian inscription he is referred to as king; there he occupies also a priestly office, viz., that of
the administrator of the temple provisions of a certain god. In the Gilgamesh epic, Utnapishtim is
not invested with any royal power or entrusted with any priestly office; from it we learn simply that
he was a citizen of Shurippak (Tablet XI:23) and a man of considerable wealth (XI:70ff). (227)
There is no reason given by Utnapishtim for the deluge. On the contrary, the Judaic version of the
Flood in Genesis states in 6:5–8 a very clear, explicit reason for the Flood:
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that very imagination of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the
earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, "I will blot out man whom I have created
from the face of the ground, man and beast and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry
that I have made them."
Likewise in Genesis 11:13 God gives a reason for the Flood:
And God said to Noah, "I have determined to make an end of all flesh; for the earth is filled with
violence through them; behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Electronic Medical Records : Cerner And Epic
They electronic medical record being evaluated are Cerner and EPIC. The multidisciplinary
committee will determine which program meets the needs of the 100 bed hospital. Cerner
Advantages Cerner integrates patient information throughout all of the departments within a hospital
setting. This program also has the ability to expand into other health care facilities within a
community, such as long term care, hospice, and home health (Cerner, 2015). Cerner offers
community hospitals solutions in their "Software as a Service" model. Cerner will host the software
program, provide upgrades, and monitor performance to ensure stability. This will allow community
hospitals to have a predictable cost for the software (Cerner, 2015). Another advantage of this
system is the "Smart Room". Wireless devices such as infusion pumps, and vital sign monitoring
devices can access the system. This allows for instant documentation of this information into a
patient chart and will alert if abnormalities are noted. Bar code scanners and carts are available as
well. These items improve patient safety (Cerner, 2015). Cerner is capable of CPOE, electronic
prescription transmitting, and has the ability to capture data and immunization statuses to meet
reporting regulations. Cerner Disadvantages The largest disadvantage of the Cerner EHR is the
documented outage with no documented disaster plan. During the time of the outage, it was unclear

Music Improvements During The 1960s Essay
Music improvements in 1960s "Life is a progress, not a station," said Ralph Waldo Emerson. Each
decade, changes occur in almost all areas in life, and music is one of the fields that describes better
that assessment. Since the 1960s, music has been going through a lot of changes in composition,
arrangement, production, and distribution. However, some people are still thinking that music
started getting worse since that time(Briggs). But, what if it was a positive change or a progress
people had to discover? Music is a powerful apparatus that shapes generations. In the 1960's, music
was a force that affected the way people thought and behaved(Welch). During that period, people
started composing their music in different ways. Many musicians wanted to share important
messages or their opinions about situations on that time: Protest songs were born. For example, Bob
Dylan and Woody Guthrie in their songs "Blowin' in the Wind" and "This Machine Kills Fascists"
were protesting against wars and conflicts. It was new and unique because most of the music
composers were being very creative in songwriting. They wanted to reach people's hearts and minds
with peace, justice and anti–war messages(Protest).
In 1965, Bob Dylan went electric at Newport Folk Festival. It was a big step because electric guitar
was getting more and more involved in live music since the early part of the 20th century (Electric
Guitar). However, Bob Dylan was booed during that Festival. The audience consisted

RE: Syco Music – Copyright Infringement
Date: 23 March 2015
Syco Entertainment (Syco) should respond to the claim by Sony Music Entertainment (Sony)
denying any copyright infringement, thus prepare for legal action.
On 14 March 2015, Sony approached Syco regarding a claim of copyright infringement. It stated the
song 'Live While We're Young' (infringing work) by 'One Direction' used a substantial part of
'Should I Stay or Should I Go' (original work) by 'The Clash'.
It outlined that 5 per cent of all royalties earned should be granted to Sony. The part of the original
work alleged to be used was the first two bars. Additionally, Sony threatened to take the matter to
court if it was not resolved in negotiation.
'One Direction's' song 'Live While We're Young' was written by Carl Falk, Nicholas Headon, Mick
Jones, Savan Kotecha, Paul Simonon, Joe Strummer and Rami Ycoub.
Nicholas Headon, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Joe Strummer wrote 'The Clash's' song 'Should I
Stay or Should I Go'.
The co–authors of the works were performers from 'The Clash'.
Epic Records (owned by Sony) agreed with The Clash that their studios were to be used for the sole
purpose of recording musical works. Epic Records did not employ The Clash by contract.
Legal issues to be considered are:
1. Should Sony receive a remedy from the sale of the infringing work?

Heroes and How to Represent Them
The word hero is Greek, from a root that means "to protect and serve". A hero is someone who is
willing to sacrifice his own needs on behalf of others, like a Sheppard who will sacrifice to protect
and serve his flock. At the root, the idea of hero is connected with self sacrifice" (Vogler, pg. 29). A
hero represents an ego which distinct them from the rest of the human race. The journey of many
heroes separates them from a family or tribe. They begin a long journey of only wisdom and power
which keeps them distant from their home. According to Christopher Vogler, the author of The
Writers Journey: Mythic Structure for writers, a hero's journey requires many inner strength and
functions. One of these functions is growth. Growth meaning growing from a young man into an
older one. When you go from you acquire knowledge and that is what happened to these heroes.
This growth occasionally shows through the collection of the hero's knowledge and wisdom which
helps the hero gain strength while conquering obstacles on his journey. The obstacle tests the hero's
power to determine if the hero will die or survive. In every heroes story there is a confrontation with
death. If the hero doesn't actually face death then he is threatened with death which will show if the
hero may succeed–live or fail–die. "The heart of many stories is the learning that goes on between a
hero and a mentor, or a hero and a lover, or even between a hero and a villain (Vogler, pg.31)."
A hero is defined as a

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh Essay
While the women in the Epic of Gilgamesh may not be the primary focus of the epic, which instead
recounts more of Gilgamesh's own trials and travails, they still play quite vital roles in their
interactions with both Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Women such as Shamhat, Ninsun, and Ishtar in The
Epic of Gilgamesh are often portrayed with a particular emphasis on their intrinsic connections to
civilization–and in the case of Shamhat and Ninsun, in terms of their motherly characteristics as
well–which serves as their primary influence over men. When taken into account with Gilgamesh's
overarching quest for immortality, this inherent connection that women have with civilization, and
particularly so through their roles as mothers of not just a single character, but in general of the
entire progeny of civilization itself, lends to the notion that women themselves are the very
progenitors of civilization who will ultimately uphold Gilgamesh's own quest for immortality. One
of the first women of particular importance and influence to appear in the epic is Shamhat the harlot.
Shamhat is initially introduced to the wild man Enkidu as a means to tame him, as "[her allure is a
match] for even the mighty" (The Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet I.141). This characterization of
Shamhat, with a particular emphasis on the power of her allure and sexuality, puts forth the
preliminary notion that the primary source of a woman's power and influence stems from her
sexuality. Moreover, Enkidu's acceptance of

Compare Beowulf Is An Epic Hero Archetypes
Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are alike
and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and both a
great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic Hero but
are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to accomplish are
completely different. Beowulf has strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero. He Saves the
day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple examples of his
strength is how he ripped off grendel's arm when he tried to run away. No normal person would be
able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he slew grendel's
mother as everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of an epic hero.
He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very good leader
and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the people. Beowulf
is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all the time and there
are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different than the way people
are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more barbaric, like when
Beowulf ripped off grendel's arm and they hung it up on front of the door for everyone to see. Then

What Is Gilgamesh's Definition Of An Epic
Chapter 2 – Ancient Mesopotamia Question 1
When a person hears an Epic, they may think what is epic, is it a person or a thing. To look at the
word epic and define it, then a person can clearly understand its meaning. After reading and
rereading the Epic of Gilgamesh a few things seem clear. To put this perspective what is an epic; is a
long narrative poem that records a character of privilege through their adventures. The epic of
Gilgamesh did just that, this was one of oldest stories ever recorded so far. This was written on clay
tablets around 1200 BCE, by the scholar Priest Sinleqqiunninni. This could make Priest
Sinleqqiunninni the oldest author that we know about. This epic consists of eleven tablets, and is
written in Akkadian cuneiform. These tablets talk about the fourth king of Uruk who ruled around
2700 and 2500 BCE, along with being one of the manuscripts of the Mesopotamia culture. ... Show

Analysis of EPIC Personal Health Records System
Part 1 – Epic Systems' My Chart is a PHR that integrates into an EMR system. Epic also has a
product that is freestanding called Lucy that has no advertisements and will never sell patient data
for any use. The power of Epic's offerings is that a patient can view their test results, fill out pre–
visit questionnaires, upload photos and Rx information, refill prescriptions, message providers
securely, manage child charts or geriatric issues, view education topics, and receive reminders or
other info from the doctor. This seems the best of both worlds being able to keep information
personally and privately, but also to integrate visit information, tests, and medications (Mobile
Applications and Portals, 2013). Part 2 – A Personal Health Record, or PHR, is a health record in
which the data and information are maintained not by the clinic or provider, but by the patient.
PHRs are different than EMR because they are not only a personal record kept by the patient, but
health data collected on the patient remotely through a SmartPhone or other device. PHRs are
available online, usually secure and encrypted. The advent of the Internet, more power for personal
computing, and more sophisticated devices have also increased the popularity of this kind of data

Civility In Gilgamesh
With the start of recorded storytelling in The Epic of Gilgamesh societies have defined themselves
through their writings. Their beliefs, what they hold in high esteem, and what they regard as evil or
barbaric, all of it is contained within the stories they've told. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the first,
telling of the king of Uruk from around 2100 BCE, in Mesopotamia. Later the first two books of the
Old Testament, Genesis and Exodus, are presumed to have been written around 600 BCE near
Babylon. Then Thucydides of Athens begins to record history in a more modern format, in the late
400s, BCE. Finally, Plato recreates conversations of his mentor – Socrates, also of Athens – in the
early 300s BCE. These writings span several civilizations and a vast segment of early recorded
human history. The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Old Testament, the writings of Thucydides, and the
writings of Plato all reflect distinct ideals of civility in their respective cultures. Over time they
show a transition from valuing power to valuing wisdom, cooperation, and government. The oldest
text, The Epic of Gilgamesh, is far removed in its definition of civility from modern definitions.
Gilgamesh's character, his actions, and what he is valued for by his city are telling to better
understand what defined civility within the civilization that produced it. Near the beginning of the
epic, Gilgamesh is referred to as:

Modern Influences Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Modern influences of The Epic of Gilgamesh "Who says Gilgamesh ever died?" (Ziolkowski
57). The Epic of Gilgamesh has remained a widely read story throughout the years. The Epic of
Gilgamesh is a story of an imperfect hero on a journey for everlasting life. It features Gilgamesh, the
king of Uruk, and Enkidu, a wild beast man, on a journey of heroic quests and misadventures. This
story has inspired many new literary and visual works in many languages; it has also inspired
modern archeologists to learn all about the ancient city from the epic. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the
oldest epic known to date. It is an old Babylonian tale first written down in Sumerian. The first
known copy of the epic is dated to around 2100 to 2000 B.C.E. However, it is believed to have
originated many years earlier passed along though oral story telling. The epic was used in
Babylonian schools to teach literature to students (Puchner 36). In ancient times, the Epic of
Gilgamesh was widely read from Mesopotamia to Syria to Levant and Anatolia. The epic was also
translated into non–Mesopotamian languages such as Hittite (Puchner 34). The story we know today
was expanded upon around 1200 B.C.E. by a Babylonian priest. "The eleven–tablet version may be
said to have assumed its present form during the latter part of the second millennium"(Abusch 618).
It was then written down again and stored in the library of an Assyrian king named Ashurbanipal
(Ziolkowski 55–56). It was thanks to this act that

The Trojan War
In the academic group, the authenticity and validity of Homer's Trojan War is both a by and large
discussed and faulty topic. There are various adjustments on how the Trojan War started and there
are two hypotheses that were dependable. One theory is that The Trojan War was known as the
Bronze Age battle among Troy and Mycenaean Greece. Per set up sources, the war began after
Queen Helen of Sparta was grabbed by the Trojan sovereign Paris. This provoked Menelaus, Helen's
rejected companion, to impact his kin Agamemnon, ruler of Mycenae, to start a mission to recoup
her. Distinctive history masters assume that the Trojan War began due to money related contention
among Troy and Mycenae. Troy controlled the Hellespont, a strait of water that incited the Black
Sea, and on account of that they controlled trade with most of Asia. Mycenae required the fiscal
focal points of the Hellespont, and when they attempted to seize it, a war took after. There has even
been hypothesis that there was not one Trojan War, yet rather a couple. The Greek adventures,
Hittite records, Luwian verse, and archeological remains give affirm not of a singular Trojan war but
rather than various wars that were fought in the domain that we recognize as Troy. Coincidentally,
the Trojan War was constantly thought to be a legend yet as the nineteenth century discovered some
conclusion, archeologists drove by Heinrich Schliemann, found the rest of the parts of a human
advance around the primary territory of

Gilgamesh Research Paper
Gilgamesh is an ancient Mesopotamian hero, featured in the famous tale of "The Epic of
Gilgamesh", who embarks on a perilous quest for immortality. This idea, "...touches on the most
fundamental questions of what it actually means to be human..." (Homer 33), and gives us light into
the minds of the people during the era. Gilgamesh's tale gives us a glimpse at how the people of that
day viewed a "hero", and allows us to reflect upon what we consider a "hero" today. Using the Epic
Hero Cycle, I will analyze Gilgamesh's life and journey and analyze why I feel that he is truly a
hero. In order to fully focus on why I feel Gilgamesh is a true hero, I must address and reflect on his
life, who he really is, and most of all the views of the people of that era. Uncommon to popular
belief, the Epic of Gilgamesh was not written as a single work by one particular author. The Epic of
Gilgamesh has been told down from generations and has been declared the oldest specimen of great
literature. According to Abusch, "The epic of Gilgamesh discovered and reconstructed in the century
and a half since the libraries of Nineveh were first excavated has taken its place with a biblical and
Homeric text among the great literary text of the ancient word," (8.) and rightfully deserves so.

it is rarely credited that Gilgamesh was a real King

The Themes Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh

  • 1. The Themes Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh is an old epic poem from Mesopotamia going back to approximately 2000 BCE. It is accepted to be one of the most punctual works of literature in human history. Researchers trust that its roots were in antiquated Sumerian poems that were later gathered into an Akkadian epic in the eighteenth or seventeenth century BCE. Hormuzd Rassam, an Assyrian paleologist, first found the clay tablets that record the epic in 1853, in modern–day Iraq. They were first deciphered by George Smith, a British Assyriologist, and were first distributed in the mid 1870s. In this essay I will critically analyzed the themes, imagery and symbolism which has been used in Epic of Gilgamesh. Love in forms of both erotic and platonic inspires change ... He journeys to Urshanabi to discover Utnapishtim, at that point traversed the sea and through the sea of death, just to come back to Uruk. Gilgamesh's many journeys mirror his internal journey to wind up plainly a selfless and committed ruler (p–47, 57). Baptism symbolism shows up all through Gilgamesh, flagging a ceaseless recharging and resurrection of the characters. Enkidu washes and blesses himself after he tastes cooked nourishment and brew at the shepherd camp. Ninsun washes herself before she collectives with Shamash. Gilgamesh washes himself after his arrival from the Cedar Forest. Gilgamesh and Enkidu wash themselves in the Euphrates after they stifle the Bull of Heaven. Gilgamesh experiences an invert baptism after Enkidu's death, when he wears skins and gives his hair a chance to develop. Siduri urges Gilgamesh to wash himself, yet he cannot. Utnapishtim arranges his boatman to baptize Gilgamesh before they journey home. Gilgamesh is in a pool of pure water when the snake steals the enchantment plant. • 3. Oral History Annotations Lyrics Annotations Oral history happens within communities, and it gives people opportunities. To learn about human interaction, develop a language and taking action. Oral history can often give you a better idea about culture and people because there is less open to interpretation than a written document. Language is one of the biggest parts of human language and our language and communication skills would be much less advanced without our oral histories. Speaking the information of truth and declaration, passing it down from generation to generation. Like Griots teaching monarchies of Mali with their fabrications. A harp called the Kora a drum called the djimbe. Entertainers, town criers, storytellers, and musicians, they all came together as custodians of the relic. John Foley once said "All corners of the the world" that corner might be 200,000 years old What about the Odyssey, that's pretty bold, that's pretty old, enrolled from the greeks what have you been told. Over 12,000 lines of poems and stories about the fictitious Odysseus, 10 years to form but composed orally and meant to be heard rather than read Oral tradition is the speech of history and stories that have been passed down for generations. • 5. Beowulf Epic Hero Essay While many people admire the feats of typical heros, those of an epic hero are that much more amazing. An epic hero is a brave and noble character that is embodied by the values of a certain culture and affected by grand events. The great Geatland warrior, Beowulf, demonstrates many characteristics of an epic hero throughout his journey to battle the monsters of the Danes. Going on a quest, risking death, and upholding the ideals of a certain culture are three aspects of an epic character that Beowulf shows. His main quest consists of him traveling to the land of the Danes in order to take on Grendel, a ferocious beast that has been terrorizing the people and destroying their structures. He not only risks possible death by fighting Grendel, but he also risks it by fighting Grendel's mother and a dragon later on. Because of his willingness to face these dangerous creatures and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf takes part in three major battles in his journies, all of which consist of their own risks. Grendel, the Danes' monster, had been fought by many previous heros, and he never failed to win. Beowulf took on this monster, not only unknowing of his fate, but without any sort of weapons, since he wished to be equal with Grendel. He defeated the monster, keeping his arm as a trophy of victory. Grendel's mother returned with vengeance, and Beowulf took her on in her own underwater cave, mostly unprepared with a useless weapon. However, he managed to find a weapon within her cave that had the powers to kill her, and so he did, successful once again. If that was not enough, fifty years later, Beowulf faced a dangerous dragon with only one other companion, and managed to defeat him and collect his treasure before his death. Riding into a battle at such an old age with no army to help defend was extremely courageous, and added only more points of bravery to Beowulf's heroic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Myth Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians since the time of its revelation in the mid– nineteenth century in the remains of the considerable library at Nineveh, with its record of an all inclusive surge with critical parallels to the Flood of Noah 's day. Whatever remains of the Epic, which goes back to conceivably third thousand years B.C., contains little of worth for Christians, since it concerns run of the mill polytheistic myths connected with the agnostic people groups of the time. In todays society, there are many religions that are carried out worldly, and live by different teachings that may differ from others. So to some, what may be considered religious may not be religious to those apart of that particular religion. A perspective is an arrangement of essential, foundational convictions concerning divinity, mankind and whatever remains of the universe. We likewise incorporate Agnosticism, Atheism, Humanism, Ethical Culture and so forth as religions, since they additionally contain a "conviction about god" – their conviction is that they don 't know whether a god exists, or they have no learning of God, or they truly trust that God does not exist". • 11. Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and the... Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah's Ark Many cultures have stories of a great flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah's Ark. The next most notable is the Sumerian story of Ut–Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian depiction of the flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is disturbing his sleep. Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of Gilgamesh has broadly the same structure and plot as Noah's Ark, suggesting the possibility that the Biblical account has drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction. University professor Alexander Heidel concludes that these accounts are undeniably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... on all sides. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in length, 75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer Chuck Missler maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the two measurements. Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the Biblical ark is amazingly similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences between the stories include only minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals onboard, but Ut–Napishtim invited additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen. Noah's ark landed on Mt. Ararat, but Ut–Napishtim's ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a few 100 miles away. In the Babylonian account, the water came only in the form of rain; however in the Biblical account water came from beneath the earth in addition to rain. Noah released a raven once and a dove twice, but Ut–Napishtim released three different birds; a dove, a swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps the differences were intentional in order to make the two stories more unique in their own way. Perhaps the differences are simply two different people's renditioning of the same story. However, despite the minor differences there are many similarities between the two stories. Indeed the similarities have led some to speculate that these ancient flood stories were ... • 13. Gilgamesh Research Paper Michael Strickland Professor Beauty Bragg World Literature Section 13 September 3, 2014 Epic poems have been written or handed down orally for thousands of years through both storytellers and written records. Most of the stories from the time of Gilgamesh, 2700 to 600 B.C, were in the form of epic poetry. There are certain specifications in order for something to be considered an epic poem. In all epic poems the plot centers on a hero of unbelievable prominence, involves superhuman strength and bravery, a vast setting, supernatural or otherworldly forces, and an omniscient poet. The Epic of Gilgamesh obviously centers on the character Gilgamesh. The fact that Gilgamesh is two–thirds God and only one–third man, he views himself as superior to those around him. Gilgamesh appears to be very impressive because of his great size and stately presence (Tablet I: 30–38). The main character Gilgamesh emerges more divine than human (Tablet I: 50) and possesses the highest degree of strength (Tablet 1:36). Because of this supernatural divinity that Gilgamesh obtains, he becomes very self–confidant. He is often viewed as arrogant, "arrogance has no bounds by day or night" which causes some people to dislike him. Similarities Between Gulf And The Gilgamesh Flood The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians as far back as its revelation in the mid– nineteenth century in the vestiges of the library at Nineveh, with its record of a general flood with critical parallels to the flood in the Book of Genesis. There have been various flood stories distinguished from antiquated sources scattered around the world. The stories that were found on cuneiform tablets, which involve a portion of the most punctual surviving written work, and have clear similitudes. The cuneiform style of writing was developed by the Sumerians and carried on by the Akkadians. The Epic of Gilgamesh was contained on twelve extensive tablets, and since the first discovery, it has been found on others and additionally having been converted into other early languages. There are numerous similarities between the Gilgamesh flood account and the scriptural flood account starting above all with God picking an honest man to assemble an ark as a result of a looming incredible flood. In the two records, tests from all types of creatures were to be on the ark, and birds were utilized after the downpours to decide whether flood waters had died down anyplace to uncover dry land. Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh The poem The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered to be the first documented work of literature, which originated in Uruk, a city–state located along the channel of the Euphrates River in Sumer. The Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia to devise a system of written language, which consisted of wedge shaped characters that were inscribed in clay tablets. This system of writing is known as cuneiform, and it was used to record The Epic of Gilgamesh. Throughout this epic poem, Gilgamesh, the king and ruler of Uruk, encounters a number of religious figures that sheds light upon the history and culture of the Mesopotamians. It is apparent from the start of the poem, that the people of Uruk centered their entire lifestyle around the many deities of the polytheistic Sumerian religion. Gilgamesh himself was the son of the goddess Ninsun and king Lugulbanda, and was considered to be one–third human, and two–thirds god. Gilgamesh also encounters Utnapanishtim, who was gifted with immortality from the gods after serving as a heroic savior during a great flood, in which the biblical story of Noah's Ark alludes to. Furthermore, The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the most significant literary works in history; it has influenced and shaped the course of western literature, in molding the first archetypes of an epic hero, and in its use of literary devices. Generally, people who are schooled in the United States are first introduced to the concept of an epic hero, and the use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. • 31. Accuracy in Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible Essay There is much debate over the historical accuracy of the Hebrew Bible and The Epic of Gilgamesh. Some claim that to understand a work of literature requires extensive knowledge of the background of this work. The contrary position is that a work of literature can be interpreted solely on it's content. The meaning of the term classical literature is that it can be applied during any period of time, it is eternal. Yet the conditions surrounding the author might still be of interest to the reader, and of importance to the work. As with many cases, the truth is somewhere in between the two extremes. Both sides have valid arguments about the importance of historicity. To say that historicity is of the utmost importance may seem extreme. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a real person, the fact that He lived and dies for their sins takes on a great significance. Many devote their lives to serving others the way Jesus did in the New Testament. In this case, it is easy to see how it would be greatly important that Jesus be an accurate historical figure. As a fictional character, His life and death have meaning within the story, but would not be likely to inspire the great actions that people take trying to follow His example. This is only one extreme instance in which the historical accuracy of a work would have great importance. The stories of many human beings, including those in Gilgamesh and The Bible may inspire people to have similar courage. Even if these characters are mortal human beings, that human beings could act out of such courage and love may give readers faith that they too may be able to be as courageous. Depending on the reader, the historical accuracy may seem of no importance at all. If a work of literature is good enough, one gets quite involved in the story line, and the characters become real. Regardless of the time or place, one's involvement in the work may supersede all history surrounding it. The question of the importance of historicity aside, there can be little harm done in pondering the accuracy of a work. The Hebrew Bible and the Epic of Gilgamesh have come under close scrutiny ... The epic gives readers a unique glimpse into the earliest of civilizations, warranting it to be taught in classrooms all over the world. So over time, it has been translated into many different languages and mediums to cater to different classes or platforms. For example, students at Chartwell Elementary School put their own twist on the Epic of Gilgamesh, claymation style. Claymation or clay animation is a form of stop motion animation. They also changed why Enkidu must stop Gilgamesh from going to the wedding, instead, Enkidu merely intervened because the populace is displeased with their leader. It is understandable that they wouldn't be able to include every single scene in their twelve–minute YouTube video because making a clay stop motion film is extremely tedious. It typically takes 12 shots to make one second of footage. Their teacher also probably glossed over some graphic scenes that might have been too much for these elementary students. For example, Enkidu and Shamhat simply fell in love under a palm tree in the claymation, instead of an intense love making session that lasts for several days. It is still fair to say that although some scenes weren't included the full plot is understood. The childlike interpretation of Gilgamesh is evident in the making of this film. Certain immature aspects of the video take away from the grand style of an epic. The strength and heroism that encompass the character Gilgamesh are lost in the creation of his character. Moreover, Beowulf reacts to the Hrothgar's grief when his most beloved follower Aeschere dies, which provokes Beowulf to adhere to traditional to avenge the death, is a perfect distinctive exposure to the pagan temper. • 37. The Battle Of The Crusades In 'The Song Of Roland' In the epic poem, "The Song of Roland" the tale depicts the Battle at Rencevaux in which the protagonist is betrayed and serves as a martyr to justify the Crusades. The Crusades were a medieval military expedition by the Roman Catholics to purge the Muslims from the Holy Land. With this definition of the Crusades, one can conclude that the "Song of Roland" should not be considered apart of the Crusades as the poem's context is historically inaccurate, written long after the events, and lacks a credible source. Instead, this depiction should just be considered as a folk tale that was used to drive the crusaders to keep fighting. The story of heroism in this poem was no doubt a motivational tool that inspired soldiers to persevere and uproot the Muslims from the Holy Land. The "Song of Roland" dates back to early 12th century, in the midst of the Crusades. The original battle was called the Battle of Roncevaux Pass which took place in 778 AD, long before the epic poem dates back to. For one to even consider this poem as the first battle of the Crusades the poem would have be written relatively soon after the battle. Some scholars speculate that the poem was written around the time that the battle took place but there is no evidence to support their theory as the only written copies date back between 1129 and 1165 AD. These dates place the written poem in the middle of the Crusades. Furthermore, this strengthens the idea that the poem is not a accurate description of what actually happened on that day. Instead, this epic poem was written for another purpose, the purpose of inspiring the current knights of the glory and honor that can be gained from this Holy War. With the date of the "Song of Roland" being nearly four hundred years after the actual battle one could see the potential problems with the details of the story. Having no previous records, experts aren't sure whether the epic poem was changed on purpose, or if parts of it were forgotten. Although the tale conveys a sense of heroism and pride, it there are many details that are historically inaccurate. For example, in the "Song of Roland", the author describes the opposing forces as "Saracens". This term Saracen is used by many authors at the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Gilgamesh Analysis Gilgamesh One of the earliest surviving works of literature is The Epic of Gilgamesh. It is a source into understanding the Sumerians and what they believe. The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a self–consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and is one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh's power started to irritate the people and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created Enkidu, Gilgamesh's frenemy turned loyal companion. Before Enkidu became Gilgamesh's friend and loyal companion, he was one with the wild. Instead of being part human, part god, Enkidu was 1/3rd human and 2/3rds beast. He lived in the forest with animals only eating grass and drinking out of water holes. He was unaware of the civilized life outside of the forest. He did not understand the ways of civilized life. Instead he was used to his primitive ways, he did not know what losses he was facing verses what he was going to gain. After the temple prostitute, he developed a need for human ... This ancient epic piece of history was originally told orally for numerous years, captivating audiences long ago as it still does today. One has a sense of duty to protect and fight and conquer with this end knowledge that glory will reign down upon the dutiful. There is glory in the fight, but not without the knowledge that there comes a duty to protect those in need of it, and that's who he is is fighting for. The quote from Beowulf, "When he heard the tale of Hrothgar's distress, he set sail for Denmark to rid the land of its fear," tells of Beowulf going to help the Danes. This shows that he is not only going to leave his country to help another but it also sets up the duty aspect of the story. He feels it is his duty, his obligation to help these people and to rid them of demons prosecuting them. A duty really is just a royal or theistic obligation in this case. Since he has the ability to fight, well then by jove he is going to fight and he will either die with honor or return with glory. The entire Anglo–Saxon culture was built around that. There wasn't a weak hero, there were only powerful men who set an example for others to follow. Each decade, changes occur in almost all areas in life, and music is one of the fields that describes better that assessment. Since the 1960s, music has been going through a lot of changes in composition, arrangement, production, and distribution. However, some people are still thinking that music started getting worse since that time(Briggs). But, what if it was a positive change or a progress people had to discover? Music is a powerful apparatus that shapes generations. In the 1960's, music was a force that affected the way people thought and behaved(Welch). During that period, people started composing their music in different ways. Many musicians wanted to share important messages or their opinions about situations on that time: Protest songs were born. For example, Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie in their songs "Blowin' in the Wind" and "This Machine Kills Fascists" were protesting against wars and conflicts. It was new and unique because most of the music composers were being very creative in songwriting. They wanted to reach people's hearts and minds with peace, justice and anti–war messages(Protest). In 1965, Bob Dylan went electric at Newport Folk Festival. A hero is someone who is willing to sacrifice his own needs on behalf of others, like a Sheppard who will sacrifice to protect and serve his flock. At the root, the idea of hero is connected with self sacrifice" (Vogler, pg. 29). A hero represents an ego which distinct them from the rest of the human race. The journey of many heroes separates them from a family or tribe. They begin a long journey of only wisdom and power which keeps them distant from their home. According to Christopher Vogler, the author of The Writers Journey: Mythic Structure for writers, a hero's journey requires many inner strength and functions. One of these functions is growth. Growth meaning growing from a young man into an older one. When you go from you acquire knowledge and that is what happened to these heroes. This growth occasionally shows through the collection of the hero's knowledge and wisdom which helps the hero gain strength while conquering obstacles on his journey. The obstacle tests the hero's power to determine if the hero will die or survive. In every heroes story there is a confrontation with death. If the hero doesn't actually face death then he is threatened with death which will show if the hero may succeed–live or fail–die. "The heart of many stories is the learning that goes on between a hero and a mentor, or a hero and a lover, or even between a hero and a villain (Vogler, pg.31)." A hero is defined as a ... The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh Essay While the women in the Epic of Gilgamesh may not be the primary focus of the epic, which instead recounts more of Gilgamesh's own trials and travails, they still play quite vital roles in their interactions with both Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Women such as Shamhat, Ninsun, and Ishtar in The Epic of Gilgamesh are often portrayed with a particular emphasis on their intrinsic connections to civilization–and in the case of Shamhat and Ninsun, in terms of their motherly characteristics as well–which serves as their primary influence over men. When taken into account with Gilgamesh's overarching quest for immortality, this inherent connection that women have with civilization, and particularly so through their roles as mothers of not just a single character, but in general of the entire progeny of civilization itself, lends to the notion that women themselves are the very progenitors of civilization who will ultimately uphold Gilgamesh's own quest for immortality. One of the first women of particular importance and influence to appear in the epic is Shamhat the harlot. Shamhat is initially introduced to the wild man Enkidu as a means to tame him, as "[her allure is a match] for even the mighty" (The Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet I.141). This characterization of Shamhat, with a particular emphasis on the power of her allure and sexuality, puts forth the preliminary notion that the primary source of a woman's power and influence stems from her sexuality. Moreover, Enkidu's acceptance of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Compare Beowulf Is An Epic Hero Archetypes Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are alike and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to accomplish are completely different. Beowulf has strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero. He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel's arm when he tried to run away. No normal person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he slew grendel's mother as everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel's arm and they hung it up on front of the door for everyone to see. Then when ... • 65. What Is Gilgamesh's Definition Of An Epic Chapter 2 – Ancient Mesopotamia Question 1 When a person hears an Epic, they may think what is epic, is it a person or a thing. To look at the word epic and define it, then a person can clearly understand its meaning. After reading and rereading the Epic of Gilgamesh a few things seem clear. To put this perspective what is an epic; is a long narrative poem that records a character of privilege through their adventures. The epic of Gilgamesh did just that, this was one of oldest stories ever recorded so far. This was written on clay tablets around 1200 BCE, by the scholar Priest Sinleqqiunninni. This could make Priest Sinleqqiunninni the oldest author that we know about. This epic consists of eleven tablets, and is written in Akkadian cuneiform. These tablets talk about the fourth king of Uruk who ruled around 2700 and 2500 BCE, along with being one of the manuscripts of the Mesopotamia culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The description of the delicate aspect of Enkidu to the delicate aspects of nature; and the strength for a civilization to the strength of Gilgamesh shows the elements in the characters. • 67. Analysis of EPIC Personal Health Records System Part 1 – Epic Systems' My Chart is a PHR that integrates into an EMR system. Epic also has a product that is freestanding called Lucy that has no advertisements and will never sell patient data for any use. The power of Epic's offerings is that a patient can view their test results, fill out pre– visit questionnaires, upload photos and Rx information, refill prescriptions, message providers securely, manage child charts or geriatric issues, view education topics, and receive reminders or other info from the doctor. This seems the best of both worlds being able to keep information personally and privately, but also to integrate visit information, tests, and medications (Mobile Applications and Portals, 2013). Part 2 – A Personal Health Record, or PHR, is a health record in which the data and information are maintained not by the clinic or provider, but by the patient. PHRs are different than EMR because they are not only a personal record kept by the patient, but health data collected on the patient remotely through a SmartPhone or other device. PHRs are available online, usually secure and encrypted. The advent of the Internet, more power for personal computing, and more sophisticated devices have also increased the popularity of this kind of data vault. A good way to understand this concept is that a PHR is a folder held within a Portal (strongbox) that has important information that needs to be accessible at certain times. This allows the patient to take more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genesis of the Old Testament records a worldwide Flood early on in the history of human civilization. Tablet 11of the Sumero–Babylonian version of the epic of Gilgamesh also records a total Flood of the entire earth very early in mankind's development. Let's examine the two to determine if one could be the basis for the other. Nels M. Bailkey in Readings in Ancient History: Thought and Experience from Gilganesh to St. Augustine, comments on the likenesses and lack thereof between the two versions: The striking similarities with the later Hebrew story are quite evident, but the great gulf between them needs to be emphasized: the Hebrew version has ... In the Gilgamesh epic, Utnapishtim is not invested with any royal power or entrusted with any priestly office; from it we learn simply that he was a citizen of Shurippak (Tablet XI:23) and a man of considerable wealth (XI:70ff). (227) N.K. Sandars in the Introduction to his book, The Epic of Gilgamesh, sums up the involvement by the pagan gods in the Sumero–Babylonian Flood narrative: In the Gilgamesh flood Ishtar and Enlil are as usual the advocates of destruction. Ishtar speaks, perhaps in her capacity as goddess of war, but Enlil prevails with his weapon of the storm. Only Ea, in superior wisdom, either was not present, or being present was silent, and with his usual cunning saw to it that at least one of the race of men should survive. (41) Column 1 on Tablet 11 begins the Sumero–Babylonian Flood narrative (Gardner 226). [. . .] Load the seed of every living thing into your ark, the boat that you will build.

  • 72. Civility In Gilgamesh With the start of recorded storytelling in The Epic of Gilgamesh societies have defined themselves through their writings. Their beliefs, what they hold in high esteem, and what they regard as evil or barbaric, all of it is contained within the stories they've told. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the first, telling of the king of Uruk from around 2100 BCE, in Mesopotamia. Later the first two books of the Old Testament, Genesis and Exodus, are presumed to have been written around 600 BCE near Babylon. Then Thucydides of Athens begins to record history in a more modern format, in the late 400s, BCE. Finally, Plato recreates conversations of his mentor – Socrates, also of Athens – in the early 300s BCE. These writings span several civilizations and a vast segment of early recorded human history. The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Old Testament, the writings of Thucydides, and the writings of Plato all reflect distinct ideals of civility in their respective cultures. Over time they show a transition from valuing power to valuing wisdom, cooperation, and government. The oldest text, The Epic of Gilgamesh, is far removed in its definition of civility from modern definitions. Gilgamesh's character, his actions, and what he is valued for by his city are telling to better understand what defined civility within the civilization that produced it. Near the beginning of the epic, Gilgamesh is referred to as: "Gilgamesh the tall, magnificent, and terrible, who opened passses in the mountains, who dug ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Modern Influences Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Modern influences of The Epic of Gilgamesh "Who says Gilgamesh ever died?" (Ziolkowski 57). The Epic of Gilgamesh has remained a widely read story throughout the years. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a story of an imperfect hero on a journey for everlasting life. It features Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, and Enkidu, a wild beast man, on a journey of heroic quests and misadventures. This story has inspired many new literary and visual works in many languages; it has also inspired modern archeologists to learn all about the ancient city from the epic. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest epic known to date. It is an old Babylonian tale first written down in Sumerian. The first known copy of the epic is dated to around 2100 to 2000 B.C.E. However, it is believed to have originated many years earlier passed along though oral story telling. The epic was used in Babylonian schools to teach literature to students (Puchner 36). In ancient times, the Epic of Gilgamesh was widely read from Mesopotamia to Syria to Levant and Anatolia. The epic was also translated into non–Mesopotamian languages such as Hittite (Puchner 34). The story we know today was expanded upon around 1200 B.C.E. by a Babylonian priest. "The eleven–tablet version may be said to have assumed its present form during the latter part of the second millennium"(Abusch 618). It was then written down again and stored in the library of an Assyrian king named Ashurbanipal (Ziolkowski 55–56). It was thanks to this act that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. The Trojan War In the academic group, the authenticity and validity of Homer's Trojan War is both a by and large discussed and faulty topic. There are various adjustments on how the Trojan War started and there are two hypotheses that were dependable. One theory is that The Trojan War was known as the Bronze Age battle among Troy and Mycenaean Greece. Per set up sources, the war began after Queen Helen of Sparta was grabbed by the Trojan sovereign Paris. This provoked Menelaus, Helen's rejected companion, to impact his kin Agamemnon, ruler of Mycenae, to start a mission to recoup her. Distinctive history masters assume that the Trojan War began due to money related contention among Troy and Mycenae. Troy controlled the Hellespont, a strait of water that incited the Black Sea, and on account of that they controlled trade with most of Asia. Mycenae required the fiscal focal points of the Hellespont, and when they attempted to seize it, a war took after. There has even been hypothesis that there was not one Trojan War, yet rather a couple. The Greek adventures, Hittite records, Luwian verse, and archeological remains give affirm not of a singular Trojan war but rather than various wars that were fought in the domain that we recognize as Troy. Coincidentally, the Trojan War was constantly thought to be a legend yet as the nineteenth century discovered some conclusion, archeologists drove by Heinrich Schliemann, found the rest of the parts of a human advance around the primary territory of ... • 78. Gilgamesh Research Paper Gilgamesh is an ancient Mesopotamian hero, featured in the famous tale of "The Epic of Gilgamesh", who embarks on a perilous quest for immortality. This idea, "...touches on the most fundamental questions of what it actually means to be human..." (Homer 33), and gives us light into the minds of the people during the era. Gilgamesh's tale gives us a glimpse at how the people of that day viewed a "hero", and allows us to reflect upon what we consider a "hero" today. Using the Epic Hero Cycle, I will analyze Gilgamesh's life and journey and analyze why I feel that he is truly a hero. In order to fully focus on why I feel Gilgamesh is a true hero, I must address and reflect on his life, who he really is, and most of all the views of the people of that era. Uncommon to popular belief, the Epic of Gilgamesh was not written as a single work by one particular author. The Epic of Gilgamesh has been told down from generations and has been declared the oldest specimen of great literature. According to Abusch, "The epic of Gilgamesh discovered and reconstructed in the century and a half since the libraries of Nineveh were first excavated has taken its place with a biblical and Homeric text among the great literary text of the ancient word," (8.) and rightfully deserves so. Where it is true that the epic focuses on Gilgamesh as being the protagonist and a powerful warrior, it is rarely credited that Gilgamesh was a real King Watson 2 who ruled around 2700 BCE.
