Discrimination Against Gay Discrimination
Discrimination against, and persecution of, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ)
people is as widespread as it is timeless. While conditions in society have improved, especially in
recent years, it is not hard to find an example of some sort of harassment endured by an LGBTQ
person. Different justifications exist in the minds of those who seek to harass and condemn:
religious beliefs, personal taste, familial responsibilities, nationalistic unity, cultural expectations,
the list goes on and on. Shielded with these, persecutors strike against the LGBTQ community,
wielding religious and governmental institutions like weapons. The casualties of this so–called
"culture war" are high: mental health is negatively affected, families are ... Show more content on

Although this is a monumental achievement, it tends to give a false sense that the battle is won and
discrimination has been toppled, however nothing could be further from the truth. Gay adoption is
still a contentious issue. "In Florida, for example, state laws prohibit any "homosexual" from
adopting a child. Florida prohibits second parent adoptions as well." () Even today we still have
LGBTQ members getting arrested over their private consensual practices. A web journal
demonstrated while the sodomy laws have been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court,
they still pose a very active threat for LGBTQ members in rural Southern communities. () Many big
legal issues still exist that LGBTQ people have to navigate carefully around.
Personally: Raising children
Workplace discrimination still occurs towards members of the LGBTQ community which negatively
impacts all aspects of their life. Being discriminated against at the workplace effects economic
stability not to mention how it can bring many psychological issues. Congress has been working on
passing the Employment Non–Discrimination Act require an employer judge a homosexual based on
how well their skill are performed at the job, qualifications, and the quality of their work. We can
see how being discriminated against can cause job instability and high turnover, which promotes a
greater unemployment and poverty rates. Gays also tend to experience a

Peace, love, and unity should prevail for people to live with harmony with each other and unless
these three factors take course, it would be difficult to consider one another as equal partners in the
society. It is very important to note that every person was created differently and therefore, have
their own unique features and characteristics and it would be wrong to discriminate against one
another on any grounds. However, there are certain human qualities such as homosexuality and
lesbianism that are highly controversial in the society today; various factions of people present their
views on the issue. There are those who oppose them by terming them as immoral and there are
those support them by terming them as human rights (Blackwell, Ricks & Dziegielewski, 2004).
One person who stands out openly to call for homosexuals' rights is the former president's wife,
Hillary Clinton, who made her opinion on this issue public at Geneva where she attended a meeting
to celebrate Human Rights Day. In a society dominated by men, Hillary Clinton's speech is bold and
radical. Clinton, a white, heterosexual woman, went against societal norms by advocating for the
rights of homosexuals who are abused solely because of their sexual orientation.

Gay Pride: Inclusionary Practices
AFA wishes to remind our Members that June is the month designated to observe Gay Pride, and to
encourage everyone to come together under the umbrella of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion. "Gay
Pride" began as a reaction to discrimination, violence, and hatred leveled against a segment of our
society simply because they were perceived to be "different" from the rest of the population. History
is littered with instances of injustice, bigotry, and hatred toward people of all kinds, due to ignorance
and intolerance. Your AFA is an organization that enthusiastically promotes inclusionary practices as
well as celebrating the diversity of the human race. We believe everyone is entitled be treated
respectfully and in a dignified manner regardless of race, creed, color, gender, beliefs, or sexual
orientation. The LGBT community has suffered discrimination and social stigmatization in the past,
prompting them to develop the Gay Pride Theme as a positive way to combat injustice and
discrimination, as well as to promote their self–affirmation, their dignity, and as a platform to fight
for their rights, as deserving members of the human family. ... Show more content on

Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Inception of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 influenced both global and
national organisations to put human right issues in the legislations through different kinds of
conventions, treaties, international and domestic laws. These treaties were designed to protect
everyone's rights. States had obligation to respect, protect and fulfil human rights of the population.
Recently, there has been increased emphasis on sexual rights and most governments, activists are
fighting for gay rights and protect people who are discriminated for their sexual orientation. In order
to protect and prevent discrimination and violence some states have imposed aid conditionality to
ensure that the rights of homosexuals are being respected and protected by the states and societies
(Warwick, 2013). However, these states and organisations fail to address complexities in the local
complex in countries that criminalize homosexual acts. Additionally, conditionality were imposed
on states to give incentives or punish states that criminalize gay people. Furthermore, such efforts
have potential to increase discrimination and violence of homosexuals and also limits impacts of
local activists working on gay rights.
Aid conditionality is a common practice in the aid industry but it was in 1990 that human rights
were given much focus in foreign aid. In 2011, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government
Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, David Cameron, British Prime Minister announced that

What is homosexuality? Homosexuality is the sexual or romantic attraction between persons of the
same gender. Nobody knows when the homosexuality started, but it is been there since a long years

are more states around the world that are giving the same right to the homosexuals, and giving them
opportunities to normal life. Discrimination against homosexual are one of the principal problems

Persuasive Essay On LGBT Rights
The LGBT community has made progress towards gaining more rights in recent years, although it
has been an uphill battle. In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia,
Malta, and Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a
resounding success. In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in
households, radio shows, and broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has
been made, LGBT individuals and their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they
deserve.
Discrimination feels like a relic of the past––something Americans struggled against and that was
outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of
the free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be
refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. A gay couple could be refused their
right to adopt a child. Much of this discrimination is chalked up to a concept called "religious
freedom." Religious freedom is the right to deny service based on the idea that it conflicts with the
business owner's religious beliefs, and has been used most recently to defend discrimination against
LGBT people. The world has heard this argument many times before. According to the LA Times,
"1960s...a small chain of barbecue restaurants in South Carolina, said that its owner's freedom of
religion would be violated if

Persuasive Essay On The LGBT Community
The LGBT community is often referred to as the gay community, which includes lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgendered people. This community has not always been supported by others.
There has been many challenges and attempts to get equality dating back to 1969 with the
stonewalls riots, which were violent riots against a police raid by the gay community. This is just
one of the many protest and riots that will take place with their fight against discrimination and
inequality. Gilbert Baker was a rights activist, in 1978 he stitched the rainbow flag that has now
become the international symbol of gay pride. In the 1980's the AIDS epidemic brought more
challenges, which people who did not support the LGBT community only used to further block legal
protection. It would be years before they even got the right to same–sex marriage. In 2004
Massachusetts became the first state in the United States granting gays to legally marry, but it would
not become legal in all 50 states until June 26, 2015. Even though people are now allowed the right
to same–sex marriage, there are still many struggles and injustices that they still face today.
Members of the LGBT community should be treated equal and provided with constitutional rights,
access to the military, and legal protection regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Every
U.S citizen has Constitutional Rights, yet LGBTs are constantly getting their rights violated.

The LGBT community should be able to serve openly in the military because gender identity has
nothing to do with physical ability, the ban is an act of discrimination, and the American
Constitution proposes a society based in inclusion not exclusion.
The LGBT community should be able the serve openly in the military because gender identity has
nothing to do with physical ability. Gender identity and sexual orientation are not the same, and
many people do not understand the difference between the two. Gender identity is which one applies
him/herself as male or female. This includes: straight men and women transgender men and women,
and some lesbians and gays. The definition of Sexual orientation is the person which one desires to
be with. To further explain: a woman with a woman would be in the lesbian community. A man with

gone under surgeries or procedures that change their gender identity. "Gender identity and sexual

Lgbtq Youth And Its Impact On The Community Essay
It's very likely that LGBTQ youth are not able to get the help in school which causes them to have
low self–esteem, not show up to school, and even engage in risky behavior. School psychologists
must provide services for their entire student body and that includes youth apart of the LGBTQ
community. Regardless of what their beliefs are it's important that they give LGBTQ youth the
support that they need and also help them work towards a positive identity while going the process
of coming out. To assist LGBTQ youth with the decision of coming out, school therapists must
create an environment that is conducive to trust, provide resources that will educate and foster
empathy, and great care must be given to the type of therapy.
School psychologists must help create and foster an environment that educates administrators,
teachers, and non LGBT students. Many lesbian, gay, bi–sexual, and transgender youth do not feel
safe in school. Sexual minority students may suffer harassment (verbal and/or physical) from
teachers and peers. As a result, they may experience more absences than heterosexual students. In
addition, LGBT youth may turn to drugs and alcohol as a means of coping with the stressful school
environment (Patterson 2013, p.192). Many will contemplate or even commit suicide.
School counselors and psychologists must be knowledgeable and competent regarding the issues
and needs of their LGBT students. The APA Ethical Code 2.01(b) requires, "an understanding of

Gay Discrimination In The Media
Even in the recent public opinion toward homosexuals and same–sex marriage with approval and
approval, in the past 40 or 50 years, news media has generally held that homosexuality is a social
issue that will weaken the combat effectiveness of the U.S. military and affect the security of the
U.S. government. In 1980s or 1990s, after public discussion of human rights through the
organization, the media focus on the question that same–sex marriage on the children grow and the
past he concept of a happy family. According to the Chomsky and Barclay's study, the orientation of
public opinion toward homosexuals will be subjectively influenced by journalists or media
holders, but this effect is basically neutral. However, the point in Davidson's (1991) research is more
passive."Anti–gay prejudice in the media occurs not just as vicious as slander, but also as casual
bias, perpetuation of negative stereotypes, deference to the prejudice of others, and lesbian and gay
invisibility."Because everyone has their own standards of whether or not the content of homophobia
can be accepted.According to Davidson's point of view, the opposition to homophobia is much
weaker than racial discrimination anti–Semitic, or sexist content, which may mean that the issue of
homophobia has not been properly valued. About framing gay issues in the news media,LGBT
coverage need a system to research on same–sexual marriage, even some expert authority;may not

Discrimination Against Gays and Lesbians in the Workplace
The topic I have chosen for my research paper comes under the general heading of culture. Culture
may be defined as the language, beliefs, values, norms, and material objects passed from one
generation to the next. The specific topic I proposed to investigate is discrimination of homosexuals
in the workplace. This topic is particularly interesting to me because I am an advocate of equality
for all. I believe that no matter your race, age, sex, or sexual orientation you should be treated fairly.
My paper will provide an in depth look at this type of discrimination, the laws that protect the
victims, and explain how this affects our society. Finally, I will describe the insights I have gained in
researching this topic as well as pose some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some feel that same sex relationships are completely wrong and that they shouldn't be allowed
anywhere, especially in the workplace. But, there are others who are fighting for homosexual
equality. Another opinion is "Don't Ask Don't Tell". Some employers feel that, if an employer's
personal life is not evident at work, he/she shouldn't make it known. They feel that what an
employee does in his/her personal life; is personal and they want to have an unbiased opinion.
From researching this topic I have gained a newfound insight about myself and the world around
me. Not only does prejudice affect your race, it also affects how you live your life, a job, and has the
basic needs in life. Homosexuals choose a life different from the norm of society and they have to
deal with the pressures of fitting in where they are told that they do not belong. It is put upon them
to conform to what society wants and not to be different. Researching discrimination against gays
and lesbians in the workplace helped me understand more about the struggles that they face. Having
seen the similarities that racism and sexual orientation have in common has made me want to
research further into the lives of homosexual persons.

Essay on The Mental Health of Individuals in the LGBT...
The mental health of individuals in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community is
something that is a serious problem. For most of the history of the United States and many different
parts of the world LGBT people faced much persecution and in some cases even death. This
constant fear of discovery and the pressure that one feels on oneself when "in the closet" can lead to
major mental distress. Research has shown that people who identify as LGBT are twice as likely to
develop lifetime mood and anxiety disorders (Bostwick 468). This is extremely noticeable the past
couple years in the suicides of bullied teens on the basis of sexual identity and expression. The
stigma on simply being perceived as LGBT is strong enough to ... Show more content on

It is also worth noting that research into the mental health of the LGBT community is lacking (then
and now) and that discrimination is legal in many cases (Luckstead 3). Some of the ways that
discrimination is legal would be the banning of marriage rights in some states, the absence of
sexuality and sexual expression in the working on discrimination clauses around the nation, the
ability for a person to be fires or evicted simply because they are LGBT. All of these things can
cause stress in the life of members of the LGBT community and in te cause of stress you find causes
and additives to mental distress and illness. One could surmise that with the turning tide on the issue
of gay rights in the US that the mental health risk here is not work looking into. This would be
incorrect and the suicides of LGBT youth in the past couple years confirms this. The causes of these
mental illnesses can be attributed heavily to discrimination on almost all fronts. The impact of
institutional discrimination, that is discrimination that is passed through laws or amendments in a
state or federal level, has been shown. It had been shown that the prevalence of mental illness is
higher in states that do not provide protection from discrimination such as in the work place and in
marriage (the bans of the time of

Argumentative Statement Against Gay Adoption
Gaia Alberti
Ms Mathers
HN English III
13 November 2017 Gay Adoption
"We believe that every child has the right to a loving, nurturing and permanent family, and that
people from a variety of life experiences offer strengths for these children" (The Board of Directors
of the National Adoption Center). Gay adoption by legal couples has become a rising controversy in
the past decade, affecting the lives of many children and families. Around the world there are so
many children that need to be adopted and thousand and thousand parents that want to undertake
this experience, but they are not allowed because of the law in some countries. These parents have
the right to adopt and have done nothing wrong and they have the same ability to grow children as
straight couple; yet, they are not allowed to take care of a child that has been abandoned. Still, many
people are against gay adoption because they think kids need a mother and a father to have proper
male male and female role models. They also believe kids raised by a gay couple are more likely to
become gay. This unconstitutional act exists because of prejudices and discrimination. Many
organizations wants equal rights for all parents and children and they believe discrimination based
on sexual orientation should be stopped. Gays and lesbians should be allowed to adopt because they
can be just as good at parenting as straight couple. Many kids are still in orphanages waiting for
homes, and children will have the opportunity

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and bisexual
people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn't hide their sexual orientation. Gay
and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their
true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army.
Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely
and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore,
nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the
country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat
experience of so many gay and lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation's founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this
prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several

Gay Rights Australia
MHIS109 Analysis
1) "Gay rights have come a long way, but there's more to do" by Greg Waters, Sydney Morning
Herald (2018), outlines a national journey but also personal journey of the author. Waters highlights
how as a nation, Australia has come so far since the 20th century in terms of gay rights, yet there is
still more work that needs to be done, to ensure all discrimination stops. Waters uses evidence from
1972 to highlight how inhumanely gay people were treated, including being dismissed from
employment for being gay and that protestors against these practices were not looked upon
favourably . In 2018 however, a big win for gay rights was the legalisation of gay marriage in 2017.

Willett argues that the world view has changed, with the help of so many activists, bringing about
fundamental changes in society's attitudes. Willett talks about the changes made up until 1997,
however since then attitudes and legislation relating to homosexual people has become even more
understanding and tolerant. In the early 20th century, gay and lesbian people were marginalised to
the point of invisibility and demonization . He argues that before 1975, homosexual laws were some
of the harshest laws that the government introduced. This was because there was a general sense of
homophobia after the 1960's, calling homosexual behaviour, sexual depravity. He cites Barry York
demanding conjugal rights for prisoners to prevent prisons from being "breeding grounds" for
homosexuality . He also draws on the homosexual attitudes in the paper, such as the Tribune in 1973
which states how John Sendy wanted the government "to oppose gay liberation". However, Willett
also uses evidence of people trying to change this law and fight for gay rights, such as Whitlam in
1970, who expressed support for decriminalisation of homosexual acts, and how in 1972, Lex
Watson set out law reform abolishing all laws regarding discrimination against gay couples and
sexual orientation, race and marriage status. He demanded public education campaign in schools to
eradicate anti–gay attitudes. Willett suggests these actions helped to reshape Australian society
creating more understanding. By 1997 there was wider public acceptance and tolerance of
homosexual people, with Mardi Gras parade being popularised, the decriminalisation of male
homosexual behaviour, acceptance of lesbians and the recognition of gay custody rights in families
and much stronger anti–discrimination laws, all creating a powerful sense

It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it's really hard to come out

Gay Discrimination
Throughout the years, the acceptance of homosexuality has been a widely debated topic between
common citizens and with America's laws. Should society welcome or outcast them? This was the
question on everyone's mind, to which most people before the late 1960's would favor the latter. In
fact, during the mid–1960's, it was against the law to provide service to someone of gay orientation
(Clendinen 22). People of homosexual orientation would not allow others to restrict their rights
because of religious belief or hierarchy ideals. To disrupt the somewhat successful oppression that
the law was assisting in, they would fight back when police came to raid a bar in search of illegal
activity. This often caused the media to get involved and report their findings, assisting in spreading
the word of gay persecution.
Few people were willing to stand up for homosexuals as they were presumed to be flawed, sinners,
outcasts and even categorized as mentally ill. This was due to the fact that, unlike different
ethnicities with defining skin colors, gays had no markings to identify them as a group (Clendinnen
22). However, homosexuals were almost all a part of a discourse community and shared many ideas
about equal rights for everyone. Since they were confronted with declarations that they posed a
threat to America, the activists needed to reassure the media of their dedication to the country. They
had to "appeal frequently to the nation's founding ideals of liberty and equality" (Hall,

women simply because they feel the woman is of a weaker sex (Sargent, 2009). Although the

Muslims are a fine example of an ethnic group who people show prejudice towards. The past has
already created a poor image of them, but the recent terrorist attacks involving ISIS have created

Homosexual Equality In Australia
Homosextual people (someone who is attracted to the same gender as their own eg. gay or lesbian)
have constantly faced discrimination by both the state and society. Through the movement to
equality, more recent generations have strived to create an environment where homosexual people
have more rights than they have had previously. Although globally homosexuality has become
relatively accepted, there are still many ways in which discrimination and intolerance negatively
impact gay and lesbian lives.
In the past fifty years the movement towards homosextual–heterosextual equality has resulted in a
change in the social attitude towards a discriminated minority. Despite this, many homosexual
people still face discrimination today by both the state and society. The first act to end

to some form of homophobic violence or harrassment in their lifetimes and one in two had
experienced homophobic harrassment ot other non–physical abuse in the past two years

Causes Of The Stonewall Riots
For many years, the LGBT community, standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, in
America has suffered injustice after injustice at the hands of those who choose to discriminate
against them. But the aggression towards homosexuals came to a boiling point in New York in the
late 1960s. One of the most well known of these homophobic events were the riots just outside the
Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York. Many historians, such as Duberman and Deitcher,
would place the blame solely on the police force however, the police raids were responsible for the
Stonewall riots in 1969 to a small extent because other factors such as the legal discrimination of
homosexuals, and the media's censorship of the gay movement had a much stronger impact leading
to the most influential gay rights riot in US history.
The Stonewall riots were a series of riots that occurred in late June of 1969 when the New York City
Police entered the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar located in what is known as the Village, with the
intent to arrest the employees for serving alcohol without the proper liquor license. The Village is a
combination of Greenwich Village and Harlem where a considerable homosexual population stayed.
It is a staple in the Stonewall riots because this is where Stonewall Inn resided and where the
eventual Stonewall Riots occurred. Not having a license was often used as an excuse by the NYPD
to raid local gay bars, such as the Checkerboard or the Stonewall Inn.

Lisa Sherman Case Analysis Essay
Lisa Sherman Case Analysis:
October 2010
Summary:
Lisa Sherman worked for Verizon for many years. While there she never revealed her sexual
orientation .Then one fated day, there was a diversification workshop with her fellow managers. The
outcome of this was that her coworkers were bigoted towards homosexuality. Lisa Sherman had a
tough decision to make, whether to stay or to leave. The following analysis shows a suggested
solution.
Lisa Sherman Case Analysis:
Lisa Sherman spent many years not being true to who she was. She never told her coworkers that
she was gay during her 15 years at Verizon Communications. Then, the company decided they

She felt that if she were to tell anyone it would affect her career, which allegedly proved to be a
correct assumption, from the comments that her co–workers made. One of the most homophobic
individuals turned out to be one of Lisa's mentors. In essence, the people Lisa had been closest to
turned out to be bigoted individuals.
When deciding what to do, Lisa needs to be sure it is in the best interest of her needs. Since she has
been with the same company for 15 years, and quickly worked her way up, she probably has a
myriad of opportunities waiting for her. She can inform the CEO Ray Smith of her sexual
orientation, as he wants the company to become more progressive and would (allegedly) not be
bothered by her sexuality. However, the rest of her coworkers still feel that Gay people are immoral,
disgusting people. Even if the CEO did not mind her sexuality, her coworkers would still see her in a
different light.
I feel the best decision that Lisa can make is to look for different work, with a more open,
progressive company, then resign from Verizon. This decision would allow her time to get her
finances in order. However, if she had a large savings, then the best decision would be to resign
immediately, because being around such bigoted individuals would cause her undue stress, and her
performance may be affected.
If Lisa Sherman chooses to resign, since the CEO Ray

Gay Rights And Social Discrimination On College Campuses
While many Christians tend to belong to a "traditional", or conservative, school of thought and
beliefs, a subset of more liberal Christians count themselves as a sizable minority of their
communities. Therefore, there exists a sizable population on campus who follow a more progressive
system of beliefs: a support of gay rights, forward thoughts on female roles in the Church, and other
thoughts which fall more in the "Left" end of the political spectrum. These are the voices on college
campuses which find themselves aligning with, and protecting, their fellow peers of non–
heterosexual orientations.
Many of the religiously liberal find themselves in an uphold battle within their own communities
when it comes to collegiate discriminatory policies and social discrimination of others against the
LGBT community. Most justify their views, beliefs, and support to fellow Christians by referencing
the unconditional love of God and the supremacy of love over other biblical laws. This is not
without Church support, as Pope Francis recently mused, "If someone is gay and he searches for the
Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?"(Donadio). In essence, Pope Francis removes himself
from discriminating and distances himself from conservative "anti–LGBT" beliefs, leaving the
judgments of religion to God himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"The Laramie Project" is a production that was created to addressed the cruel murder of 21–year–old
Matthew Shepard who lived in a small town of Laramie, Wyoming. Due to this critical situation that
occurred, the state of Wyoming suffered from major judgements from other states in the U.S and
countries around the world. Laramie, had demonstrated stereotypical actions and discrimination

the incident occur in 1998, the legislative had not introduced the end to anti– discrimination for the

The Stress on Americas Equality Essay
In America's society, equality has always been a reoccurring issue. All the way from early slavery
and the Holocaust to discrimination toward African Americans, females, and now same–sex
marriages. As much as our world focuses on becoming equal, each culture deals with it's own
differences. In Michael Jackson's song, "Black or White" compared with Macklemore and Ryan
Lewis' song, "Same Love," they each approach the same topic encompassing equality. Songs from
completely two different generations but each song is concentrating on the important issues of their
time, racial discrimination and same–sex relationships. Both of the artists have the same dreams on

Michael Jackson was a prominent role model of the 1980's and 90's. His songs influenced and left
an impact on people in a way that no artist has every done before. He not only left his impact on

billboard topping songs and his talented singing voice and dance moves that no one could replicate.
He started at a young age, beginning his singing career at the age of 5 years old. Here he joined his

solo career as an artist. One of Michael's biggest problems he had to face was a horrible skin
condition called Vitiligo. It is a chronic skin condition that causes loss of pigment. Irregular pale
patches of skin are the outcome of this pigment loss and a lot of people refer to it as "turning from
black to white." Jackson's doctor, Patrick Treacy, reported to the public, "It is well documented that
in 1986, Michael was diagnosed with Vitiligo" (Treacy). This was the beginning of his
transformation. Not only was he transforming himself physically, but as well he was transforming
the rest of the world. Jackson was now seeing the world in a whole new perspective and had to go

that the history of LGBT people stretches as far back in humanity's history, and continues in this day

think the problem lies within society itself, and often enough that may be the case. Society holds

Gay Adoption
Introduction
Attention getter: Discrimination against gay men and lesbian women has been socially recognized
for hundreds of years and still continues today. Homosexuals have adopted children for many years,
regardless of fear and prejudice. The controversy of this matter is why homosexuals are not
presented the equal fairness of the process and open opportunity as heterosexual couples who seek
to adopt or foster children. There is a certain extent to which the sexual orientation of couples (or
single potential parents) seeking to adopt children impede on the opportunity to provide children
with a permanent and stable home.
Credibility statement: Being an adopted child, I know what it's like to be in a temporary home and
yearn to be in a permanent home with loving and caring parents.
Central idea: There are many children who have no permanent homes, while other children are
forced to subsist in a perpetual series of deficient foster homes.
Preview: Today, I will explain three reasons why gay adoption should be legal in all states.
Policy Claim: I believe that gay adoption should be legalized in all states so that children without
permanent homes can have a stable family as well as a stable life.
Body

Discrimination Against Gay Marriage is the Voice of Ignorance
Marriage is one of the fundamental establishments of the United States. As a young person, one
looks forward to many goals in their lifetime: career success, a good life, and very often marriage to
the person they love and a family together. This is one of the biggest parts of our "American life"
and culture. Very few heterosexuals would be willing to put their right to marry on a ballot for voter
approval, or even in their wildest dreams [nightmares?] have to consider doing that. However, in the

A homosexual still gets up in the morning and goes to work or to school. They still have dinner with
family or friends, participate in sports and community organizations and events. And yes, they still
hold stable relationships, just like a man and women would, they still go through the ups and downs
of a relationship, facing the same joyous moments, and same hard times with an individual they
love. The homophobia that has spread through our country like wildfire since the "outing" of
homosexuals became more common and acceptable undermines these common variables between
homosexual and heterosexual couples. One of the largest differences for a homosexual is living a
life of fear. Along with all of their day to day activities that mirror any heterosexual, they must also
deal with the stress of being "different" and being "unacceptable" to the society which they are a
part of. They must know the places they are welcomed as an "outted" gay person, and the ones
where they must hide their true identities. As well, they are not granted many of the rights a
heterosexual takes for granted. They cannot file for taxes along with their partner, cannot receive
medical benefits or health insurance under their partners coverage, as most husband and wives do,

M. V. Lee Badgett mentions in his article "What Obama Should Do About Workplace
Discrimination," that this would make a great first step on what concerns banning workplace
discrimination against homosexuals by federal contractors. If the government, the structural system
of our country, is not only willing to accept all but pose as a model of approval towards all kinds of
sexual orientations, then so should we, the people, who make part of the nation. Discrimination
against this group of people is unfortunate, but extremely common nowadays; more and more
individuals are being harassed, not compensated with adequate wages, and/or fired from their jobs
because of the way they sexually identify themselves. This strikes a fear in gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgender employees who feel as though they must produce more than the average worker in
order to not be affected or expelled from their jobs, often leading them to not take illness days off,
vacations, and to perhaps be more productive than the majority of their colleagues. Badgett explains
that by issuing an executive order against workplace discrimination, President Obama will be able to
gradually bring back equality to the nation, providing parallel opportunities for all and reducing
stress, fear, as well as death and unemployment rates in the gay community.

Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And...
People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone
"gay" because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them.
Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as
"weak" or "unfit" for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the
stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered
outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination
against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that
we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals,
or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the
root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as
LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining different point of views of this issue.
We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social
problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social
problem. Topics that we can analyze using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to
blame within the social problem, how each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and

The Riot That Occurred During The Early Morning Of June
The riot that occurred during the early morning of June 28, 1969, as well as the riots that occurred as
a result, dubbed the Stonewall Riots, are the beginning of the gay rights movement. Until the last
quarter of the twentieth century, homosexuality, bisexuality, transvestism, and transgender sex

upon those who displayed homosexual behavior. They were the objects of public suspicion, job
discrimination, and outright violence. Gays, lesbians, and other sexual minority groups were

By 1969 there were roughly fifty Homophile organizations in the United States with memberships
of a few thousand each. Around this same time, groups of prominent gays and lesbians in the United
States began to advocate openly for equal rights. Among these were the Mattachine Society, an
advocacy group for gay men, and the Daughters of Bilitis, which, like its male counterpart, "served
as a support network for homosexuals who felt maltreated by or secluded from mainstream society"
("Gay Rights Movement"). Both establishments hoped to present a picture of gays and lesbians as
no different from heterosexual citizens. However, these organizations were forced to operate largely
in secret and under ambiguous names to conceal their purpose. Neither of these groups attracted
more than a few hundred members. Therefore, while there was some organized activity for gay
rights, the gay community throughout the United States was still essentially underground in the late

for the police to close down certain gay bars for weeks as a time. In June 1969, the NYPD shut

Queer History In America Chapter 1 Summary

Gay discrimination Essay
Gay Discrimination In the recent years since the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer
(LGBTQ) community got their rights, there have been many cases of gay discrimination. The most
famous of these was "Dale VS. Boyscouts Of America".
Dale vs. Boy Scouts Of America:At the age of eight, James Dale joined the Cub Scouts. Throughout
his childhood, he stayed a scout, and even earned the title of eagle scout, the highest attainable scout

of assistant scoutmaster had been revoked. In response to this, Dale wrote them back asking why
they made this decision. The answered with, "The Boy Scouts specifically forbids membership to

Discrimination Against Gay Discrimination

  • 1. Discrimination Against Gay Discrimination Discrimination against, and persecution of, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) people is as widespread as it is timeless. While conditions in society have improved, especially in recent years, it is not hard to find an example of some sort of harassment endured by an LGBTQ person. Different justifications exist in the minds of those who seek to harass and condemn: religious beliefs, personal taste, familial responsibilities, nationalistic unity, cultural expectations, the list goes on and on. Shielded with these, persecutors strike against the LGBTQ community, wielding religious and governmental institutions like weapons. The casualties of this so–called "culture war" are high: mental health is negatively affected, families are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is a monumental achievement, it tends to give a false sense that the battle is won and discrimination has been toppled, however nothing could be further from the truth. Gay adoption is still a contentious issue. "In Florida, for example, state laws prohibit any "homosexual" from adopting a child. Florida prohibits second parent adoptions as well." () Even today we still have LGBTQ members getting arrested over their private consensual practices. A web journal demonstrated while the sodomy laws have been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, they still pose a very active threat for LGBTQ members in rural Southern communities. () Many big legal issues still exist that LGBTQ people have to navigate carefully around. Personally: Raising children Workplace discrimination still occurs towards members of the LGBTQ community which negatively impacts all aspects of their life. Being discriminated against at the workplace effects economic stability not to mention how it can bring many psychological issues. Congress has been working on passing the Employment Non–Discrimination Act require an employer judge a homosexual based on how well their skill are performed at the job, qualifications, and the quality of their work. We can see how being discriminated against can cause job instability and high turnover, which promotes a greater unemployment and poverty rates. Gays also tend to experience a ... • 3. The Lgbt Rights And Freedom LGBT Rights and Freedom Author's Name Institutional Affiliation LGBT Rights and Freedom Peace, love, and unity should prevail for people to live with harmony with each other and unless these three factors take course, it would be difficult to consider one another as equal partners in the society. It is very important to note that every person was created differently and therefore, have their own unique features and characteristics and it would be wrong to discriminate against one another on any grounds. However, there are certain human qualities such as homosexuality and lesbianism that are highly controversial in the society today; various factions of people present their views on the issue. There are those who oppose them by terming them as immoral and there are those support them by terming them as human rights (Blackwell, Ricks & Dziegielewski, 2004). One person who stands out openly to call for homosexuals' rights is the former president's wife, Hillary Clinton, who made her opinion on this issue public at Geneva where she attended a meeting to celebrate Human Rights Day. In a society dominated by men, Hillary Clinton's speech is bold and radical. Clinton, a white, heterosexual woman, went against societal norms by advocating for the rights of homosexuals who are abused solely because of their sexual orientation. Hugh Ellsworth Rodham (1911–1993) and Emma Howell Rodham (1919–2011) married in 1942 and they gave birth to Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Gay Pride: Inclusionary Practices AFA wishes to remind our Members that June is the month designated to observe Gay Pride, and to encourage everyone to come together under the umbrella of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion. "Gay Pride" began as a reaction to discrimination, violence, and hatred leveled against a segment of our society simply because they were perceived to be "different" from the rest of the population. History is littered with instances of injustice, bigotry, and hatred toward people of all kinds, due to ignorance and intolerance. Your AFA is an organization that enthusiastically promotes inclusionary practices as well as celebrating the diversity of the human race. We believe everyone is entitled be treated respectfully and in a dignified manner regardless of race, creed, color, gender, beliefs, or sexual orientation. The LGBT community has suffered discrimination and social stigmatization in the past, prompting them to develop the Gay Pride Theme as a positive way to combat injustice and discrimination, as well as to promote their self–affirmation, their dignity, and as a platform to fight for their rights, as deserving members of the human family. ... • 7. Universal Declaration of Human Rights Inception of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 influenced both global and national organisations to put human right issues in the legislations through different kinds of conventions, treaties, international and domestic laws. These treaties were designed to protect everyone's rights. States had obligation to respect, protect and fulfil human rights of the population. Recently, there has been increased emphasis on sexual rights and most governments, activists are fighting for gay rights and protect people who are discriminated for their sexual orientation. In order to protect and prevent discrimination and violence some states have imposed aid conditionality to ensure that the rights of homosexuals are being respected and protected by the states and societies (Warwick, 2013). However, these states and organisations fail to address complexities in the local complex in countries that criminalize homosexual acts. Additionally, conditionality were imposed on states to give incentives or punish states that criminalize gay people. Furthermore, such efforts have potential to increase discrimination and violence of homosexuals and also limits impacts of local activists working on gay rights. Aid conditionality is a common practice in the aid industry but it was in 1990 that human rights were given much focus in foreign aid. In 2011, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, David Cameron, British Prime Minister announced that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Persuasive Essay On LGBT Rights The LGBT community has made progress towards gaining more rights in recent years, although it has been an uphill battle. In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia, Malta, and Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a resounding success. In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in households, radio shows, and broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has been made, LGBT individuals and their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they deserve. Discrimination feels like a relic of the past––something Americans struggled against and that was outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of the free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. A gay couple could be refused their right to adopt a child. Much of this discrimination is chalked up to a concept called "religious freedom." Religious freedom is the right to deny service based on the idea that it conflicts with the business owner's religious beliefs, and has been used most recently to defend discrimination against LGBT people. The world has heard this argument many times before. According to the LA Times, "1960s...a small chain of barbecue restaurants in South Carolina, said that its owner's freedom of religion would be violated if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Persuasive Essay On The LGBT Community The LGBT community is often referred to as the gay community, which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people. This community has not always been supported by others. There has been many challenges and attempts to get equality dating back to 1969 with the stonewalls riots, which were violent riots against a police raid by the gay community. This is just one of the many protest and riots that will take place with their fight against discrimination and inequality. Gilbert Baker was a rights activist, in 1978 he stitched the rainbow flag that has now become the international symbol of gay pride. In the 1980's the AIDS epidemic brought more challenges, which people who did not support the LGBT community only used to further block legal protection. It would be years before they even got the right to same–sex marriage. In 2004 Massachusetts became the first state in the United States granting gays to legally marry, but it would not become legal in all 50 states until June 26, 2015. Even though people are now allowed the right to same–sex marriage, there are still many struggles and injustices that they still face today. Members of the LGBT community should be treated equal and provided with constitutional rights, access to the military, and legal protection regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Every U.S citizen has Constitutional Rights, yet LGBTs are constantly getting their rights violated. "Although the Fourteenth Amendment, ratified at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In sub–Saharan Africa, at least nine–in–ten in Nigeria (98%), Senegal (96%), Ghana (96%), Uganda (96%) and Kenya (90%) believe homosexuality should not be accepted by society. Even in South Africa where, unlike in many other African countries, homosexual acts are legal and discrimination based on sexual orientation is unconstitutional, 61% say homosexuality should not be accepted by society, while just 32% say it should be accepted. The LGBT community should be able to serve openly in the military because gender identity has nothing to do with physical ability, the ban is an act of discrimination, and the American Constitution proposes a society based in inclusion not exclusion. The LGBT community should be able the serve openly in the military because gender identity has nothing to do with physical ability. Gender identity and sexual orientation are not the same, and many people do not understand the difference between the two. Gender identity is which one applies him/herself as male or female. This includes: straight men and women transgender men and women, and some lesbians and gays. The definition of Sexual orientation is the person which one desires to be with. A man or a woman who chooses to be with either sex would be in the bisexual community, and the transgender community would be men or women that have gone under surgeries or procedures that change their gender identity. • 17. Lgbtq Youth And Its Impact On The Community Essay It's very likely that LGBTQ youth are not able to get the help in school which causes them to have low self–esteem, not show up to school, and even engage in risky behavior. School psychologists must provide services for their entire student body and that includes youth apart of the LGBTQ community. Regardless of what their beliefs are it's important that they give LGBTQ youth the support that they need and also help them work towards a positive identity while going the process of coming out. To assist LGBTQ youth with the decision of coming out, school therapists must create an environment that is conducive to trust, provide resources that will educate and foster empathy, and great care must be given to the type of therapy. School psychologists must help create and foster an environment that educates administrators, teachers, and non LGBT students. Many lesbian, gay, bi–sexual, and transgender youth do not feel safe in school. Sexual minority students may suffer harassment (verbal and/or physical) from teachers and peers. As a result, they may experience more absences than heterosexual students. In addition, LGBT youth may turn to drugs and alcohol as a means of coping with the stressful school environment (Patterson 2013, p.192). Many will contemplate or even commit suicide. School counselors and psychologists must be knowledgeable and competent regarding the issues and needs of their LGBT students. The APA Ethical Code 2.01(b) requires, "an understanding of factors ... Gay Discrimination In The Media Even in the recent public opinion toward homosexuals and same–sex marriage with approval and approval, in the past 40 or 50 years, news media has generally held that homosexuality is a social issue that will weaken the combat effectiveness of the U.S. military and affect the security of the U.S. government. In 1980s or 1990s, after public discussion of human rights through the organization, the media focus on the question that same–sex marriage on the children grow and the past he concept of a happy family. According to the Chomsky and Barclay's study, the orientation of public opinion toward homosexuals will be subjectively influenced by journalists or media holders, but this effect is basically neutral. However, the point in Davidson's (1991) research is more passive."Anti–gay prejudice in the media occurs not just as vicious as slander, but also as casual bias, perpetuation of negative stereotypes, deference to the prejudice of others, and lesbian and gay invisibility."Because everyone has their own standards of whether or not the content of homophobia can be accepted.According to Davidson's point of view, the opposition to homophobia is much weaker than racial discrimination anti–Semitic, or sexist content, which may mean that the issue of homophobia has not been properly valued. • 21. Discrimination Against Gays and Lesbians in the Workplace The topic I have chosen for my research paper comes under the general heading of culture. Culture may be defined as the language, beliefs, values, norms, and material objects passed from one generation to the next. The specific topic I proposed to investigate is discrimination of homosexuals in the workplace. This topic is particularly interesting to me because I am an advocate of equality for all. I believe that no matter your race, age, sex, or sexual orientation you should be treated fairly. My paper will provide an in depth look at this type of discrimination, the laws that protect the victims, and explain how this affects our society. Finally, I will describe the insights I have gained in researching this topic as well as pose some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another opinion is "Don't Ask Don't Tell". Some employers feel that, if an employer's personal life is not evident at work, he/she shouldn't make it known. They feel that what an employee does in his/her personal life; is personal and they want to have an unbiased opinion. From researching this topic I have gained a newfound insight about myself and the world around me. Not only does prejudice affect your race, it also affects how you live your life, a job, and has the basic needs in life. Homosexuals choose a life different from the norm of society and they have to deal with the pressures of fitting in where they are told that they do not belong. It is put upon them to conform to what society wants and not to be different. Researching discrimination against gays and lesbians in the workplace helped me understand more about the struggles that they face. • 25. Essay on The Mental Health of Individuals in the LGBT... The mental health of individuals in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community is something that is a serious problem. For most of the history of the United States and many different parts of the world LGBT people faced much persecution and in some cases even death. This constant fear of discovery and the pressure that one feels on oneself when "in the closet" can lead to major mental distress. Research has shown that people who identify as LGBT are twice as likely to develop lifetime mood and anxiety disorders (Bostwick 468). This is extremely noticeable the past couple years in the suicides of bullied teens on the basis of sexual identity and expression. The stigma on simply being perceived as LGBT is strong enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also worth noting that research into the mental health of the LGBT community is lacking (then and now) and that discrimination is legal in many cases (Luckstead 3). Some of the ways that discrimination is legal would be the banning of marriage rights in some states, the absence of sexuality and sexual expression in the working on discrimination clauses around the nation, the ability for a person to be fires or evicted simply because they are LGBT. All of these things can cause stress in the life of members of the LGBT community and in te cause of stress you find causes and additives to mental distress and illness. One could surmise that with the turning tide on the issue of gay rights in the US that the mental health risk here is not work looking into. This would be incorrect and the suicides of LGBT youth in the past couple years confirms this. The causes of these mental illnesses can be attributed heavily to discrimination on almost all fronts. The impact of institutional discrimination, that is discrimination that is passed through laws or amendments in a state or federal level, has been shown. It had been shown that the prevalence of mental illness is higher in states that do not provide protection from discrimination such as in the work place and in marriage (the bans of the time of ... • 27. Argumentative Statement Against Gay Adoption Gaia Alberti Ms Mathers HN English III 13 November 2017 Gay Adoption "We believe that every child has the right to a loving, nurturing and permanent family, and that people from a variety of life experiences offer strengths for these children" (The Board of Directors of the National Adoption Center). Gay adoption by legal couples has become a rising controversy in the past decade, affecting the lives of many children and families. Around the world there are so many children that need to be adopted and thousand and thousand parents that want to undertake this experience, but they are not allowed because of the law in some countries. These parents have the right to adopt and have done nothing wrong and they have the same ability to grow children as straight couple; yet, they are not allowed to take care of a child that has been abandoned. Still, many people are against gay adoption because they think kids need a mother and a father to have proper male male and female role models. They also believe kids raised by a gay couple are more likely to become gay. This unconstitutional act exists because of prejudices and discrimination. Many organizations wants equal rights for all parents and children and they believe discrimination based on sexual orientation should be stopped. Gays and lesbians should be allowed to adopt because they can be just as good at parenting as straight couple. • 29. The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and bisexual people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn't hide their sexual orientation. Gay and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army. Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore, nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat experience of so many gay and lesbian service members. Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation's founding ideals. Many countries prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns. However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Gay Rights Australia MHIS109 Analysis 1) "Gay rights have come a long way, but there's more to do" by Greg Waters, Sydney Morning Herald (2018), outlines a national journey but also personal journey of the author. Waters highlights how as a nation, Australia has come so far since the 20th century in terms of gay rights, yet there is still more work that needs to be done, to ensure all discrimination stops. Waters uses evidence from 1972 to highlight how inhumanely gay people were treated, including being dismissed from employment for being gay and that protestors against these practices were not looked upon favourably . In 2018 however, a big win for gay rights was the legalisation of gay marriage in 2017. Yet, he argues there is still so far to go, as in 2018, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willett argues that the world view has changed, with the help of so many activists, bringing about fundamental changes in society's attitudes. Willett talks about the changes made up until 1997, however since then attitudes and legislation relating to homosexual people has become even more understanding and tolerant. In the early 20th century, gay and lesbian people were marginalised to the point of invisibility and demonization . He argues that before 1975, homosexual laws were some of the harshest laws that the government introduced. This was because there was a general sense of homophobia after the 1960's, calling homosexual behaviour, sexual depravity. He cites Barry York demanding conjugal rights for prisoners to prevent prisons from being "breeding grounds" for homosexuality . He also draws on the homosexual attitudes in the paper, such as the Tribune in 1973 which states how John Sendy wanted the government "to oppose gay liberation". However, Willett also uses evidence of people trying to change this law and fight for gay rights, such as Whitlam in 1970, who expressed support for decriminalisation of homosexual acts, and how in 1972, Lex Watson set out law reform abolishing all laws regarding discrimination against gay couples and sexual orientation, race and marriage status. He demanded public education campaign in schools to eradicate anti–gay attitudes. Willett suggests these actions helped to reshape Australian society creating more understanding. By 1997 there was wider public acceptance and tolerance of homosexual people, with Mardi Gras parade being popularised, the decriminalisation of male homosexual behaviour, acceptance of lesbians and the recognition of gay custody rights in families and much stronger anti–discrimination laws, all creating a powerful sense ... • 35. Gay Discrimination Throughout the years, the acceptance of homosexuality has been a widely debated topic between common citizens and with America's laws. Should society welcome or outcast them? This was the question on everyone's mind, to which most people before the late 1960's would favor the latter. In fact, during the mid–1960's, it was against the law to provide service to someone of gay orientation (Clendinen 22). People of homosexual orientation would not allow others to restrict their rights because of religious belief or hierarchy ideals. To disrupt the somewhat successful oppression that the law was assisting in, they would fight back when police came to raid a bar in search of illegal activity. This often caused the media to get involved and report their findings, assisting in spreading the word of gay persecution. Few people were willing to stand up for homosexuals as they were presumed to be flawed, sinners, outcasts and even categorized as mentally ill. This was due to the fact that, unlike different ethnicities with defining skin colors, gays had no markings to identify them as a group (Clendinnen 22). However, homosexuals were almost all a part of a discourse community and shared many ideas about equal rights for everyone. Since they were confronted with declarations that they posed a threat to America, the activists needed to reassure the media of their dedication to the country. Causes Of The Stonewall Riots For many years, the LGBT community, standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, in America has suffered injustice after injustice at the hands of those who choose to discriminate against them. But the aggression towards homosexuals came to a boiling point in New York in the late 1960s. One of the most well known of these homophobic events were the riots just outside the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York. Many historians, such as Duberman and Deitcher, would place the blame solely on the police force however, the police raids were responsible for the Stonewall riots in 1969 to a small extent because other factors such as the legal discrimination of homosexuals, and the media's censorship of the gay movement had a much stronger impact leading to the most influential gay rights riot in US history. The Stonewall riots were a series of riots that occurred in late June of 1969 when the New York City Police entered the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar located in what is known as the Village, with the intent to arrest the employees for serving alcohol without the proper liquor license. The Village is a combination of Greenwich Village and Harlem where a considerable homosexual population stayed. It is a staple in the Stonewall riots because this is where Stonewall Inn resided and where the eventual Stonewall Riots occurred. In the United States, a few endeavors were made to craft support groups getting behind gay and lesbian relations. However, gay life thrived in urban areas such as Greenwich Village during the Harlem resurgence in the 1920s. After World War II, there was a flow of enlightenment, which influenced a sense of greater awareness especially after Senator George McCarthy's investigations on homosexuals holding public offices in the 1950s (Morris, 2016). • 63. Gay Adoption : Discrimination Against Gay Romero, Jessica Communication Studies 105 Tuesday, Thursday 8–9:20 a.m. Gay Adoption Introduction Attention getter: Discrimination against gay men and lesbian women has been socially recognized for hundreds of years and still continues today. Homosexuals have adopted children for many years, regardless of fear and prejudice. The controversy of this matter is why homosexuals are not presented the equal fairness of the process and open opportunity as heterosexual couples who seek to adopt or foster children. There is a certain extent to which the sexual orientation of couples (or single potential parents) seeking to adopt children impede on the opportunity to provide children with a permanent and stable home. Credibility statement: Being an adopted child, I know what it's like to be in a temporary home and yearn to be in a permanent home with loving and caring parents. Central idea: There are many children who have no permanent homes, while other children are forced to subsist in a perpetual series of deficient foster homes. Preview: Today, I will explain three reasons why gay adoption should be legal in all states. Policy Claim: I believe that gay adoption should be legalized in all states so that children without permanent homes can have a stable family as well as a stable life. Body I. First, gay adoption should be legalized because there is already a shortage of adoptive parents. A. According to the American Civil Union Liberties website, accessed on November 30, ... As a result, the start of gay equality was seen when same–sex marriage became legal on June 26 2015. Peaceful protests were popular during 2015 to allow equality for homosexuals. However homosexuals still face opposition in America as these groups are becoming unemployed due to sexual discrimination; as well as denied basic accommodations and inadequate health care. Yet other American's feel that oppression is necessary because people feel uncomfortable and believe homosexuality is unnatural. • 67. Research Paper On Gay Marriage Discrimination Discrimination Against Gay Marriage is the Voice of Ignorance Marriage is one of the fundamental establishments of the United States. As a young person, one looks forward to many goals in their lifetime: career success, a good life, and very often marriage to the person they love and a family together. This is one of the biggest parts of our "American life" and culture. Very few heterosexuals would be willing to put their right to marry on a ballot for voter approval, or even in their wildest dreams [nightmares?] have to consider doing that. However, in the past ten years that is a prospect gay men and women are facing all over our United States. Why is American culture so unaccepting of homosexual marriages and what are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A homosexual still gets up in the morning and goes to work or to school. They still have dinner with family or friends, participate in sports and community organizations and events. And yes, they still hold stable relationships, just like a man and women would, they still go through the ups and downs of a relationship, facing the same joyous moments, and same hard times with an individual they love. The homophobia that has spread through our country like wildfire since the "outing" of homosexuals became more common and acceptable undermines these common variables between homosexual and heterosexual couples. One of the largest differences for a homosexual is living a life of fear. Along with all of their day to day activities that mirror any heterosexual, they must also deal with the stress of being "different" and being "unacceptable" to the society which they are a part of. They must know the places they are welcomed as an "outted" gay person, and the ones where they must hide their true identities. As well, they are not granted many of the rights a heterosexual takes for granted. They cannot file for taxes along with their partner, cannot receive medical benefits or health insurance under their partners coverage, as most husband and wives do, and most essentially, they cannot create a bond of unity to express their love through a legal marriage (France, 2/2000 p2). • 69. Essay on We Are All Equal We are all born the same way: as humans, and therefore deserve the same rights and acceptance as long as we all follow the laws and comply with the norms set to protect all individuals. But throughout history certain groups of people have faced discrimination, segregation, and injustice because they are of a specific race, skin color and/or culture that some of us consider to be part of a lower category of human beings, as well as the fact of holding different beliefs and ideals along with preferences when it comes to things such as gender and choice of lifestyle. My only wonder is how an individual or a society as a whole reaches the point of producing enmity towards others who do not hold the same sexual orientation as they do and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... M. V. Lee Badgett mentions in his article "What Obama Should Do About Workplace Discrimination," that this would make a great first step on what concerns banning workplace discrimination against homosexuals by federal contractors. If the government, the structural system of our country, is not only willing to accept all but pose as a model of approval towards all kinds of sexual orientations, then so should we, the people, who make part of the nation. Discrimination against this group of people is unfortunate, but extremely common nowadays; more and more individuals are being harassed, not compensated with adequate wages, and/or fired from their jobs because of the way they sexually identify themselves. This strikes a fear in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees who feel as though they must produce more than the average worker in order to not be affected or expelled from their jobs, often leading them to not take illness days off, vacations, and to perhaps be more productive than the majority of their colleagues. Badgett explains that by issuing an executive order against workplace discrimination, President Obama will be able to gradually bring back equality to the nation, providing parallel opportunities for all and reducing stress, fear, as well as death and unemployment rates in the gay community. • 71. Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And... People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone "gay" because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them. Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as "weak" or "unfit" for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each framework can do ... • 73. The Riot That Occurred During The Early Morning Of June The riot that occurred during the early morning of June 28, 1969, as well as the riots that occurred as a result, dubbed the Stonewall Riots, are the beginning of the gay rights movement. Until the last quarter of the twentieth century, homosexuality, bisexuality, transvestism, and transgender sex changes were considered signs of mental illness. Painful electroshock therapy was often enforced upon those who displayed homosexual behavior. They were the objects of public suspicion, job discrimination, and outright violence. Gays, lesbians, and other sexual minority groups were stigmatized by society and harassed by law enforcement ("The Stonewall Riots"). The negative perception of homosexuality began to change in the 1940s as it gradually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1969 there were roughly fifty Homophile organizations in the United States with memberships of a few thousand each. Around this same time, groups of prominent gays and lesbians in the United States began to advocate openly for equal rights. Among these were the Mattachine Society, an advocacy group for gay men, and the Daughters of Bilitis, which, like its male counterpart, "served as a support network for homosexuals who felt maltreated by or secluded from mainstream society" ("Gay Rights Movement"). Both establishments hoped to present a picture of gays and lesbians as no different from heterosexual citizens. However, these organizations were forced to operate largely in secret and under ambiguous names to conceal their purpose. Neither of these groups attracted more than a few hundred members. Therefore, while there was some organized activity for gay rights, the gay community throughout the United States was still essentially underground in the late 1960s. Its bars were only open as long as the police allowed them to stay open and it wasn't unusual for the police to close down certain gay bars for weeks as a time. In June 1969, the NYPD shut down a number of clubs and bars, but the Stonewall Inn remained open. Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, the Stonewall Inn attracted runaways and drag queens, most of whom were African American or Hispanic. • 75. Queer History In America Chapter 1 Summary America has a long and complicated history, some of which has been forgotten or almost hidden away until recently, specifically LGBT history. The history of LGBTQIA+ people as a whole is something that has only been written about since the 1970s. Considering the fact that queer people have been around for much longer than that, their history is still not as developed as it should be. Michael Bronski, a cultural critic, independent scholar, progressive activist, and college professor, has been writing extensively on LGBT issues for four decades and has accumulated his knowledge into A Queer History of the United States. She wrote Out in the Union: A Labor History of Queer America in order to expose the LGBTQIA+ issues in the labor union. It provides insight on the struggles that Americans had to face with a different kind of hiring discrimination. Using stories of those who faced their own battles in the labor union, Frank tries to fill a large gap in history. Starting around the 1970s, she first discusses those who are coming out in unionized workplaces and follows both queer and straight advocates for gay rights in their fight against harassment in the workplaces and union halls. Many LGBTQIA+ people "have come out in the union to make their place in labor's campaign for economic justice." They made a part of their identity public in order to fight for the equal rights they deserve. The battle for equal rights of transgender workers is also mentioned, their first affirmation in labor agreements being in the 1980s. Miriam moves on to sharing what she found out about the alliances that were formed between organizers in queer communities and labor activists to prioritize gay– labor issues. Gay–labor campaigns began popping up everywhere, and Miriam wraps up her review of history with the mention of the passage of the Marriage Equality Act in the State of New York in June ... • 77. Gay Discrimination Gay discrimination Essay Gay Discrimination In the recent years since the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) community got their rights, there have been many cases of gay discrimination. The most famous of these was "Dale VS. Boyscouts Of America". Dale vs. Boy Scouts Of America:At the age of eight, James Dale joined the Cub Scouts. Throughout his childhood, he stayed a scout, and even earned the title of eagle scout, the highest attainable scout award. At the age of eighteen, Dale left for college. At the same time, he had applied as an adult scout and had been accepted. During his college years, he had openly came out as "gay". He became very involved with and eventually became the co–president of the Rutgers University lesbian/gay alliance. The local newspaper found out and they did an interview on the school's lesbian/gay alliance . When the Monmouth council received the news, they sent him a letter saying that his seat of assistant scoutmaster had been revoked. In response to this, Dale wrote them back asking why they made this decision. The answered with, "The Boy Scouts specifically forbids membership to Homosexuals". In response to this Dale filed a complaint against the Boy Scouts in the New Jersey Superior Court. He started the complaint by saying that The Boy Scouts had revoked his adult membership based solely on his sexual orientation.
